where to find cheap bedrooms sets near chicago?

Q. actually i live about 30 miles south of chicago as was gonna get my two kids new bedroom sets but dont have a clue!!! any help would be appreciated,,,,,thank you beau

A. Go to almost any place you can pick up newspapers you'll find "Tradin' Times" -- a publication of used goods. You may find a set--used, of course, for as little as $50

If I want to buy a bedroom set in Chicago (and put $$$ down) and take it home, where can I go?
Q. I have about $500 towards a bedroom set...I'm thinking I will spend $1000 or less...but want to take it home right away. Where could I go?

A. No, no!!
Do not go to rent-a-center.

They charge very high interest rates AND
in the contract that you sign,
they are allowed to enter your house
by any means possible to recover
their property if you should miss a
payment....including breaking in.
AND it is not a burglary so they won't go
to jail for breaking in because you signed
the agreement.

I'm sure there are lots of places that would
do that. There are a lot of "bedroom" furniture
stores up by Diversey and Central. They are
small businesses so I'm sure they would set
up a payment plan for you. Or check in your neighborhood for the small businesses and stop in and talk to them. Most are Ma & Pa shops and would welcome the business.

Also check your local newspaper "for sale" ads in the classified section for bedroom sets. You could probably get one inexpensively and they buy a new mattress set.

Good luck.

Is it better to get a comforter set or a quilt set?
Q. I am moving to Chicago, and so I'm shopping for my new apartment. I was wondering if it's better to get a quilt, or a comforter set? Quilts seem to be prettier, while comforters seem to be warmer and have more body. So, which one is better?

A. As a designer, I tend to go with comforter sets, especially if you are in a cold climate. I mostly use quilts as blankets. A lot of the comforter sets come with additional accessories like the shams, bedskirts which are all extra if you purchase a quilt. And then, quilts are a little difficult to match window treatments, pillows, other upholstered items with. Why not get a lovely quilt to use as a throw say in your family or living room and a color on color comforter set for your bedroom? Brylane Home, Domestications both have on-line catalogs with lovely and inexpensive all inclusive comforters. Plus, they even have window treatments which will match some of the sets. Some of my clients like to change out their bedding for the season with lighter weight choices like matlesse for the summer. So I try to choose comforter sets that have bedskirts that can be used with other bedding for that purpose.

You'll have the Miracle Mile though, what fun to shop that!

How much does a home inspector charge?
Q. Live in IL, in a smaller type of town, around 2 hrs from Chicago. About how much would a home inspector charge to inspect a 4 bedroom, 2 story home? Are most home buyers present while the inspector is inspecting? Is the home owner present too? Does the home buyer set up the inspector or does the realtor take care of that? Generally does the home buyer pay for the inspector or the home seller?

A. Cost ranges from 600 to 1000.
Yes the buyer should be present, ask questions and make sure all is inspected
The buyer pays The inspection benefits the buyer not the seller
