How much money will I need to move to Germany?

Q. I need to know how much moo-la I will need to live in Germany. I mean after I get there. How much will I need for food and a place to live? How much do I need to make in a month/week to be able to live decently? I am going to be there for 2-3 years.

A. Well lets it does depend on the comfort you are looking for.if you are happy with a single bedroom and a shared kitchen or something, you may find something for 300-400euros,so lets say if you earn upto a 1000euros you will have enough money to manage the rest of the motnh. As food is a bit cheaper than in the UK,Holland,Belgium and France.
But lets say you want a 1 or 2 bedroom appartment, you will be safe when you make between 1200-1500 euros every month. (Normally you should ahve enough to pay gas, electricity, water, tax, food, phoenbills, intenretconnection and you can even set a bit aside)But please know all does depend on where you want t olive, example Berlin,in the middle of the centre is a lot more expensive than in the suburbs. or smaller towns.Thats a rule that applies all over the world.

Hope this helps.

How many bedrooms should we expect to get on base (AF)?
Q. My husband will commission as an Air Force officer in April and our first assignment will be in LA. He will just be a 2nd lieutenant and we are pregnant with our first baby (won't come until August). Does one child make a difference in the number of rooms you get on base as an 0-1?

I haven't been able to get an account with the AF Crossroads yet, but there seem to be a lot of military people on Yahoo Answers so I really appreciate your help!

A. you qualify for a 2BR.. that being said, 99% of the time there are no 2 BR units set aside for officers so you can expect to get a 3 BR.

technical rules are: under six share a room, under 12 same gender share a room and everybody 12 and up gets their own room. Practically speaking: stateside: one BR per kid, plus one for you.

assuming you can even GET on base housing. the waiting list can be quite long/... 2 years...

How much does it cost per month to live in Los Angeles?
Q. I hope to move out to L.A. this summer, and i have a couple thousand dollars. I am looking for a one bedroom apartment, and I will be splitting the cost of that with my roommate. I want to factor in costs such as groceries, transportation, and I want to live in a nice safe place. How much should I expect to pay per month?

A. You need a plan: First item on the agenda is rent. A decent 1BR apartment in LA currently goes for $1200, give or take. Nicer areas and areas closer to the beach are much higher. Don't expect to move to Santa Monica and get an apartment on the beach for that much. Or Toluca Lake, or Beverly Hills.

Next, you will need a car. Los Angeles is VERY spread out, and train service is extremely limited. If you don't have a car, you will have to take a bus, which takes 3 times longer to get anywhere than a car.

All told, it generally takes about $3,000 per month to live here. If you don't have a job that pays that much or skills that can get you that kind of job, stay where you are. If you are unskilled and work for minimum wage (or for tips like bartending or waiting tables), you'll only make about $1200 per month.

And speaking of jobs, they are rather hard to come by now. College grads seeking employment are having a very tough time of it right now, since the job market is flooded with experienced people who were laid off. Unemployment is over 12% right now. Not exactly the kind of job market you want to move into.

Finally, you will need money. Landlords want first month's rent and a security deposit up front. You'll need money for food, transportation, utilities, etc. The consensus in this forum is that you need about $7500 to start out.

So there's your plan. And please don't tell us that you have dreams of being an actor or singer. That sets off another alarm. We already have a million (literally) wannabe actors in this town. Dont even get me started.

What are some tips to clean your house fast?

Q. Bathrooms, Kitchens (Our dishwasher is broken, by the way), Bedrooms, Living Room, anything!

A. If your home is really messy right now, set aside a day that you can devote to tidying it up completely to make it presentable. Just the basics like picking up clutter, dirty laundry in a pile near your washer (separated), maybe start laundry if you feel ambitious too, dust all surfaces with something like a swiffer duster (love those!), and wash the dishes.

Some tips on QUICK and easy cleaning ideas that really work for me (as with everyone else on the planet, I have a jam packed schedule and not much time to clean):

1 - I have 2 Swiffer Wet Jet's in my home and plenty of supplies for them. One upstairs and one on our main floor. They are God's answer to those of us who hate to mop! Although I am saving up for that steam cleaning mop being advertised all the time since there are no chemicals for it. Easy to just pull it out if you spill anything.

2 - For dusting basic items, I swear by the Swiffer duster (no, I don't work for Swiffer, LOL). No spray necessary, quick and easy plus it works well. Keep one on each floor of your home or each large area so it's easy to get to.

3 - Vacuum often to keep allergens and dust out of the house. We use a bag less vacuum and empty it after each use.

4 - As was said before, once your home is neat, KEEP it that way by cleaning as you go. One thing that our family does is whenever we leave a room, we look around to see if there are any items that need to be put away and bring them with us to do so. Honestly, upkeep takes literally minutes whereas cleaning up everything in a rush is stressful and a pain in the butt. Make your bed each morning, take dirty laundry directly to where you keep it or near the washing machine (don't forget to separate into different piles), wash your plate or cup right after use, OH, and use the same cup all day if you can to avoid extra dishes to clean.

5 - This is just a personal preference, but I get loads of compliments from doing it, have a collection of Yankee Candles (you can get them online if there is not a store nearby) and light them when you are home. I have tried other scented candles and these are the very best IMO. The Clean Cotton scent is very nice and smells really fresh.

All in all, prior planning is the key. My mom is a cleaning fanatic, so bad that when she hired a maid service she had to re-clean everything they did once they left! So, every day I look at my house and say to myself, "If my mom just showed up unannounced this very minute, would I be proud or would I be mortified by the state of my home?" That's usually enough for me to get off my butt and clean up, LOL! Oh, and for motivation, watch the show "Hoarders" or "How Clean is your House?".

I have tons of tricks for specific cleaning issues that make tough jobs easy, so if you have something specific, please feel free to send me a note! Good luck!

what are good ways to make my room more homey?
Q. my room is rather large, but seems very dull and lifeless compared to the bedrooms of my friends. I'm really not sure what it is about them that makes them seem so cozy, but im dying to have my room be cozy and homey. Any decoration suggestions?
p.s. painting my walls are out of the question, they are already a sea foam pearl (blue/green) color.
thanks to anyone who answers, and please don't answer if you don't know.
xoxo

A. Photos of you with your friends and family. Also, large nonflowering plants and other wall hangings and find a small, very soft rug with alot of colors that you like and tassles around the edges. Also, you could go to an "Earthbound" or some other funky foreign stuff store and pick one thingy, religious icon or statue of an animal and set it up as the mascot of your room. Do go by the Yankee candle and pick a signature scent for your room. Think about it. You will figure something out.
Cheers!

isn't it funny that everyone out of the state of ohio pretty much guarantee LBJ is leaving?
Q. he says he wants to win multiple championships and you think he will do that New York?!?! LMFAO

look,he says he loves it here...and this is HIS HOME!!! also keep in mind

new york<cleveland

shut up knick fans, he likes the yankee's because they are the yankee's, does anyone even give a crap that there is a new york knicks team?!?

A. They are fools.
He DID say he wants to be the first billionaire player. So what? That means what?
Does that mean he will take less years and less money to play for a lousy NY team?
Why?
The Cavs CAN and WILL give him MORE YEARS and MORE DOLLARS.
Espn reported that NY can give him approximately 5 years at 90-95 million. They also reported that Clevelanad will offer him as a FIRST offer 6 years at 135 million. Any offer made to James will be matched and increased by the Cavs.
And one poster said he loves NY? Does he love it so much he just had a ENORMOUS 5 acre 35, 440 square foot 11 bedroom Castle built from scratch to accomodate his own tastethat just happens to be located in close distance from the Cavaliers brand new $25 million dollar training facility? I love the fact that his childrens mother says it is "The only place I would ever want to live"
Hmmmm....
This is a guy that lives year round in Ohio. Not just an Ohio renter. Huge ties to Ohio/ Akorn and Cleveland. I assure you he loves his homestate more then NY.
NY will come to him, the money, the deals, the movies-whatever he wants. He can set in Ohio and collect NYC dollars.
And to the poster above...Cleveland is ran very very professional. Great owner who will throw money around like it's growing on trees-players get the best practice facility and ameneities in the NBA. Other players from other teams have said they are jealous of all the Cavs amenities (Jason Kidd, McGrady, Pierce, Parker). I think they would know better then you.

What was Obermann's Ratings...?
Q. ...in bed. Not very good she says.

KEITH GETS LOW RATINGS IN BED

October 9, 2006 -- A BROWN-haired beauty who claims she had an unsatisfying one-night stand with Keith Olbermann is getting her sweet revenge - she's launched a blog to warn other women about the acerbic MSNBC commentator's boorish bedroom habits.

The bitter babe, who calls herself KarmaBites1, says she doesn't want others "to fall into the same trap . . . and I want him to feel some remorse for what he's done . . . He sets his mind on a woman, lures her in, and once he gets what he wants, he refuses to ever speak to them again. And I don't think he understands the damage he's caused."

A 30-something office worker of Caribbean descent, KarmaBites1 said she struck up an e-mail friendship with Olbermann, whom she admired, and agreed to fly to New York to meet him last May. She says he came to her hotel room and opened a bottle of Merlot which he "spilled all over." Then, when "sexual activity began [in] less than an hour," Olbermann had difficulty. "I pretended he knew what he was doing," the embittered blogger writes. "I adored the guy. I didn't want him to think he was a dud in bed," so she faked experiencing ecstasy.

Next, he piled on excuses as to why he had to leave. "He told me he's an insomniac and that it's hard for him not to sleep in his own bed. He also mentioned he hadn't had 'company' in a while. [He said] he had an early meeting with the Yankees [and] he might be allergic to the pillows in the hotel bed."

Six days later, she claims, Olbermann e-mailed her to tell her never to contact him again. "I practically begged him to explain what I did wrong. I told him I deserved some kind of explanation for such a dismissal, but I never heard from him again." She said she's since heard from six other women who say they had brief sexual relationships with Olbermann.

She named her blog forthisreliefmuchthanks.blogspot.com, after a line from "Hamlet" she says the perennial bachelor quoted.

Olbermann's spokeswoman said she'd get back to us, but didn't.

Arvis, are you serious. O'Reilly has been No. 1 for a long long time and olb. has been last for a long time. Check the ratings the next time they come out.

A. I am amazed that anyone even watches that idiot.

I'm surprised he even has a show. Rumor is, that MSNBC is thinking about cancelling MSNBC due to poor ratings

Where do people buy "real" furniture in Southern California?

Q. I want to buy a bedroom set that will last, preferably for at least a couple generations, in solid wood. I don't want Ikea or anything like that. Where do you buy your furniture? Any tips on good, discount furniture?

A. Ethan Allan has really good stuff, but its really expensive. Stuff made out of real wood (not pine or particle board) is fairly pricey. Wicks has some decent stuff. We priced out a nice mahogany bedroom set there with a queen sleigh bed, highboy dresser, and a pair of nightstands which came out to about $3500. I'd say stay away from Levitz. I bought a recliner from them that fell apart within 2 years. My wife fell in love with a sleigh bed from Thomasville. without the matress it was $2500. I found a guy on ebay selling the exact same bed that was 6 months old for 1500 with a nice beauty rest matress. I went for it, but had to pay a few hundred to have it shipped from NYC to Los Angeles. You might try that though, look around in the high-dollar stores, note the maker and model number then look to see who might have it on ebay or maybe an internet retailer.

I have a few antique pieces that I would like to add to an estate sale of a reputable estate auction company.?
Q. I live in St. Louis, MO.

Any suggestions from people with experience with this kind of thing would be gratefully appreciated.

I have four Barrister bookcases, a huge African Mahogany dining table with ten matching chairs, a solid wood cherry executive desk, a mahogany bedroom set with two twin bed frames and two dressers plus a few other pieces.

A. Look in you local phone book and visit some of their sales. Ask the people that hired them. They may even have references you could check. I'd go back where the sale was and ask. Check the local BBB too. Good luck.

I need some ideas to paint my room. Please help i cant decide what color to use?
Q. I have a mahogany traditional bedroom set and two of my walls are dark brown so my room looks very dark when i just go into my room. i want to decorate my room and bathroom w/ blue and brown and i want it to match. i love those two colors toghter but i think that it would only look right with modern bedroom sets. Please help me with some coloring ideas

A. A pale blue would look absolutely gorgeous against the dark mahogany wood and looks great in a modern or traditional environment

A color I have used in the past that I always thinks looks stunning is First Dawn by Dulux.

I find it really lightens and brightens any room, so your room will not feel so dark, even if you wanted to keep your brown walls.

A pale blue is perfect for decorating bathrooms too, so you will be all set...

Wishing you lots of luck in your decorating - hope you enjoy the results!

Where can I see samples of vintage Drexel Furniture types online?
Q. In cleaning out my grandparents' basement, I discovered several beautiful, well-preserved pieces of vintage Drexel mahogany furniture. There is a six piece bedroom set, a desk, and a buffet (sideboard). According to my mother, this furniture was purchased around 1930. I want to determine which line these pieces came from, so that I can research the value. Does anyone know of an online (or other) resource with detailed photos of antique fine furniture lines?

A. You might try looking at ebay.com, and not just the auction stuff, but the stores, too. If the pieces are solid mahogany and not mahogany veneer, they might be worth a good bit of money. You may wish to send photos to one of the auction houses (Sothebys or Christies) for an estimate of their value; they will know which line the pieces are.

Is it possible for a baby scorpion to be in the United States homes?

Q. I found a baby scorpion in my sons room tonite crawling from under the bed. I live in a two bedroom apartment in dallas, tx. I have looked up some info on this creature and found that they are found commonly in the middle eastern and Africa. So why is it here. Maybe it is lost. Should I be worried that the parents aren't to far behind. His color was light brown with dark spots on the claws. what should I do.

A. As so many of the answerers stated, yes, scorpions are abundant in The U.S. Not to mention that there are various species as well. Anyway, you have a lot of thorough responses. What I have to offer is an easy way to catch them and dispose of them, if you are like me and don't want to harm them. Take a large jar and put it over the scorpion, gently slide a thin piece of cardboard or plastic under the jar. Make sure the entire opening is covered and the scorpion is on the cardboard/plastic. Then quicky flip the jar over, holding the cardboard/plastic firmly against the rim of the jar. Now that the jar is upright, you can remove the cardboard/plastic. The scorpion cannot climb up the side of glass. Then you can punch holes into the lid and seal the jar. Now compare to pics from one of the sites that were offered by other answerers, and you can show your children, neighbors, and friends and tell them all about that species. I am not aware of any scorpions in the U.S. that are deadly, but it does pay to be cautious, some people have problems with ant bites and bee stings. You could set the scorpion free out in the woods somewhere. You can catch spiders this way too. Good luck.

High for an electricity bill in Dallas, TX?
Q. Just wondering if $115 is a lot for a month's electricity bill in a 2nd floor one bedroom apartment? I keep it set from 78-79 most of the time. The lowest I have ever gone was 77, and that's rare. I thought it would be around $70-80 a month.
Thanks, I guess it just seemed a little high. I'm coming from California where I didn't have an electricity bill.

A. That a normal price to pay.

CAN THUNDER SHATTER HOME WiNDOWS?
Q. Is thunder strong enough that if a REALLY hard one comes that it can shatter home windows?I live in a 2 story house in dallas,tx and sometimes thunder gets loud and usually when there is a T-storm there is just this one LOUD EAR POPPING CAR/HOUSE ALARM setting off thunder and it shakes the windows real good so can thunder shatter windows and has it happened to you? Thanks

A. Lightening hit about a block from our house and the thunder knocked our bedroom window out. I was laying on my back on the bed and ended up with shattered glass all over me.

I doubt that thunder could knock out a double pane window however. Ours was a single pane.

If you are worried about it and you have a fat wallet, you can put transparent security window film on the glass. It cannot shatter after that. See the link below.

And best to you, have a great day down there in beautiful Dallas.

What's the big deal if I wash a bedspread that says "dry clean only" in my washing...?

Q. ...machine?
I mean, really, can I really hurt it? How?

A. The problem is that you don't know WHY they declared it "Dry Clean Only."

It's entirely possible that you can wash it safely--OR, that it'll ruin it in one of several possible ways, and chances are you won't know until you try. So... you got to ask yourself...Do you feel lucky? (sorry. Clint Eastwood moment there.)

Some information that would be important for determining how washable this comforter would be include size, fabric content of the shell, filler content (batting or down? Hollo-fil?), place of manufacture, approximate year of manufacture, some information on the weave of the shell, color/pattern, and surface.

Here are some of the reasons it might NOT work well--
Color-fastness. The dyes might not be stable, and could bleed or fade or splotch. This is of greater concern for older hand-made/ethnic fabrics than for most modern machine made and dyed textiles, but it's a possibility. Cold water will minimize problems with this, and adding salt to the water (2 cups or so) can help "set" some dyes. Shrinkage--this is a bigger risk than color-fastness. Most fabrics are mostly shrink resistant in cold water. Construction--the fabrics some comforters are made from are of an unstable enough weave that seams will open or cording pull away from the edge seams if they're put unter the physical stress of laundering. Fill shift--comforters that are meant to go through laundering rather than dry-cleaning have more construction that holds the "fill" in place. If you wash comforters that don't have good hold points for the fill (batting-types as opposed to down), it can shift and wad up and the comforter will not be even and smooth again--you'll have thin and thick patches. Down or feather fills are generally launderable, but there are issues with drying--the down or feathers must be re-fluffed and re-distributed. Air cycle in a big dryer with a clean tennis shoe is the classic method for this, but the down would need to be shaken down in the channels and re-distributed after the tennis show treatment loosens the clumps. Fabric "finish." Washing could remove the comforter's chemical-based finishes--these are added to the fabric to improve wrinkle-resistance and the fabric's body and "hand." (literally how the fabric feels). Sizings (starch is the home-applied version--commercial finishes last longer!) and finishes, when they're washed away, leave a formerly crisp fabric limp, and can trun a smooth-surfaced fabric into a wrinkled mess. Rayons are notorious for turning into masses of wrinkles that--on a garment--you can iron smooth again, but a comforter isn't something you can iron, and i'd bet steaming would give you mised results. Size--home washing machines are much more apt to be able to easily handle a twin-sized comforter than they are a Queen--or especially!--a king or california king size! The comforter would have been declared "Dry Clean Only" simply because it's big and bulky enough that running it through a wash cycle will leave those "too big a load, not enough agitation, not enough rinse cycle" greyish fiber or detergent spots all over it. An industrial washer--the big drum tumbler kind--can help this, and would put less stress on the comforter than an agitator would--but if it's a California king you might have trouble finding one big enough! That's what I'd be looking at.

To make the decision, what it boils down to for me would be--how much did I spend on the comforter, how critical is it to the decor of the bedroom, just how dirty IS it?, how unhappy I'm going to be if it doesn't work, and is there a "dry clean by weight" dry-cleaner in my area.

If you can locate a dry-cleaner who does dry-cleaning on a "per-pound" basis (these cleaners don't press per-pound dry-cleaning orders, and sometimes you can get lots of cleaning done for only a couple of bucks per pound--a good option for doing several heavy or bulky items in prep for off season storage, for example), I'd be thinking about that, before I'd run it through the washing machine.

I need a bedroom makover please help me?
Q. I have a small bedroom...i Want to be able to relax and do my homework in....it needs to be very organzied....and i want a tropical feel

A. A big trick a lot of people over look when re-doing small rooms is the use of mirrors! Now Im NOT saying go and PUt floor to ceiling mirrors in your room, but when your in a small room, simply just adding a mirror to the wall makes the room feeling a lot More open.

So since you have a small room painting the walls a dark color would be a bad idea! Dark colors cause rooms to feel smaller and sometimes cramped! So for your room I would suggest a cream color or an off-white:

http://www.framingsupplies.com/images/Crescent/Misc/WhiteSampler.jpg

Any of those would work! The off white lets the room feel open, and also symbolizes the sand of a tropical Paradise!
If that's too boring and you want to get a little more interesting with the wall color go with a light or pastel blue:

http://www.bubblyfunk.co.uk/images/Cardstock%208x8%20Pastel%20Blue.JPG

This is a fun color, but still keeps the room feeling open!

Now since you want tropical, and you want a place to do your homework, a desk is essential! Having a wicker plain white desk Gives it that clean, organized feel, but still keeps the room fun and tropical:

http://i.walmartimages.com/i/p/00/63/01/16/81/0063011681107_215X215.jpg

Also a white wicker bed frame would be ideal to continue the look throughout the room. I don't know what size bed you have. Queen.? Twin? But as long as you understand the white wicker than that's fine:

http://maggymoon.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/180-classic-white-rattan-bed.jpg

This is a JcPenny Bed set! Well priced. Its comfortable well made and simple. So as you get older if you don't like tropical anymore you wont have to change your bed set you can just change the theme:

http://www2.jcpenney.com/jcp/X6E.aspx?GrpTyp=ENS&ItemID=1649c84&DeptID=70750&CatID=77512&SO=0&x5view=1&Ne=4294957900+877+1031+1007+580+8+966+18+904+949+833&pagesize=1&shopperType=G&N=4294940584&Nao=0&PSO=0&CmCatId=70750|77512

I'm not sure weather you are a boy or a girl, but those bed sets have different colors. For the boys I would recommend the blue and brown one. The blue will go well with the wall. For the girls I would choose the yellow, pink, and orange one. IT would be fun and symbolize the sunset.

Since you don't have a lot of room in your room. I suggest adding a lot of wall decoration! One way to get GREAT wall decorations (And have a lot of fun doing it) Is for you and your boyfriend/girlfriend/friends/family to take a ton of pictures! I don't know about you, but I love taking pictures! Or you could get pictures you print off from online that have to do with the beach. Surfboards, sunsets, birds, etc. Then once all of your pictures are printed go and get frames for them! They don't have to be the same frame! Then get spray paint (the same white that is in your room) and spray paint all of the frames! Then put the pictures in the frame and hang them in a similar set up like this: (except with more pictures or course!)

http://www.manobluedesign.com/manoblueblog/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/picture-1.png

It will look really modern and cool! It also will be a lot of fun taking the pictures AND will add a personal touch to your room! Also when painting your room, have the doors and trim stay white. If you do choose the yellow comforter your walls can be the orange that matches your bed set.

If you want to add more fun stuff to your walls go and buy a stencil. For guys you could get a stencil of a surfboard that matches the color of your bed set! And for girls, you could get the stencil of a tropical flower! Pink maybe that matches yours! Also you said you wanted to feel relaxed. I quick and simple thing that could make your room feel relaxed is adding a simple water feature! :

What do you think? what colors go well with it or do you have any other suggestions?

PLEASE help! i have such a childish room and i really want something more sophisticated.

A. I think sophisticated equals modern. I know of a site that has really stylish, modern furniture for really affordable prices. The quality of their furniture is built to last and modern furniture never goes out of style. So you can keep it for years to come.

Where to buy a new Bedroom set from ?
Q. I would like to buy a new bedroom set. Bed, Side tables, Dresser, mirror. Mattress would be extra King Size would be great.

Would you buy from Art Van, Gardner White, Direct Buy, Value City, Cost Co, Sam's Club ?

Is furniture made with quality these days ? What are the brands that you think of when you want to buy furniture.

Budget ~ $3000 includes king size mattress.

Your thoughts and guidance.

A. Many of those stores will have complete bedroom sets that will hit your 3000.00 budet. Go shop and find the one that appeals to you. If you are confused as to which company is best then check them out on the BBB to see how they service their customers. http://www.bbb.org/

How much should I sell my bedroom furniture for?
Q. I have a black 7 piece queen size bedroom set with two night stands, a dresser and a mirror that I purchased for $1600 about 16 months ago. I also paid $600.00 for some pillow top mattresses. Everything looks brand new. Someone offered $700. How much should I sell it for? Mattresses included.

A. The best answer is whatever you can get for it, I think $700 isn't a good price for it, but it's most probably close to what it's worth at most.

When you buy new, you're paying for the over heads as well. If you place an add in a free online site saying what you have is new or bought 2 weeks ago, you'd be very lucky to get 70% of that $2200 you paid for it. Reason being that buying from a store you have in general an amount of consumer protection for the most part.

What most people don't understand, is that the store bought that product or those goods for a fraction of what they sold it for, to cover their over heads. My Ex used to work for a big department store, I was surprised to find out that some items have a 500% mark up, I'm not saying there was a 500% mark up on your goods, but I'm guessing at least 100% if not more.

How do I write a contract for someone who wants to pay a deposit and then pick up the items later, Craigslist?
Q. I have a bedroom set and some sofas. The people want to pay a deposit and then pick it up in 1 week. Where can I find a contract? Also, what if they get injured while moving the furniture up some stairs we have here. Should I include something about this in the contract?

A. First be sure that this is a real deposit and not a scam one. There are a lot of scammers out there that will offer to pay you a deposit with a little overage and then you give them the overage back and turns out the entire check is no good. In case you don't get what I mean read http://www.howtobeatcraigslist.uni.cc and check out all the scams they have listed there, it's just amazing the stuff people will do.

Is renting a bedroom set for the year going to be a rip off?

Q. I need a bedroom set but only for a year. I'm not interested in buying unless I can get it cheap because I'll just have to sell it in a year. How much does it cost to rent a set?

A. I did this once.

Once.

Renting is for people who need to have something that looks new in order to impress their social circle.  You'll get a much better deal on Craig's List or Goodwill.  When you're done, dump it back on Craig's List or at Goodwill.

Where would the best place be to rent furniture for the whole house at the cheapest rate?
Q. I am new to the Toledo area and just found an apartment. I am starting anew and need new couch, dinette set, and bedroom set (entertainment center w/ TV). I know about Rent-A-Center, Aaron's, and a few others that are commercial but was wondering if there was a cheaper way to go before I sign any contracts.

A. We have used Rent-a-Center. What's great baout them is, if you have to let it go back, you can start again at any time nd pick up where you left off. You don't lose anything. It has to be a similar thing though, like if you rented a washing machine and paid over half, then lost your job and had to let it go back, you can get another washing machine later and all the payments you paid before apply to the new one.

Has anyone did the rent to own furniture at house of television? ?
Q. I was just wondering, how much does it cost a week to rent a couch, bedroom set, TV and a refrigerator?
how much did your son pay weekly?

A. Rent to own will keep you paying through the teeth for the rest of your life. My son contracted for a TV and paid weekly for 3 years and still owed $600. for it when I paid it off. If he had continued making the payments it would have cost him $4200. He could have bought the same set At BestBuy for $1300. CRAZY. Don't do it.

I have to have a bedroom set moved from a friend's house to my house. I have no car. What's the best way?
Q. This is in the small town of Champaign in central Illinois. I want as little to do with the move as possible. Would moving companies move a bedroom set across town? It's just a mattress, boxspring bedframe, dresser, mirror, and nightstand. How much would it cost? Any recommendations on movers? I'm new to this.

A. arrg ... go to menards and rent a truck for90 min for 20 dollars or go to uhall and rent a van --- that should be about 20-30 -- do NOT use a movers unless you have lots of stuff or lots and lots of stairs..... best way - rent a truck - get some friends together and offer pizza and beer AFTER the move!!!

Has anyone else had problems with bed bugs in furniture bought at Casa Linda in Santa Ana CA?

Q. I bought a new box springs for my daughter, at Casa Linda in Santa Ana CA, and she started getting bites as soon as we got it. We couldn't believe that there could be bedbugs in brand new furniture. At first we assumed they were mosquito bites, but finally (a couple of months later) we took a good look, and we found that the box springs was infested. Anybody else in Orange County had this problem with this furniture store?

A. That's so bad, sorry to hear that. I think you need to change this box spring, I can not believe that. And disinfect your bedroom. Then buy new and safe bedding sets. Here is a webstore on amazon, it has safe and high quality bedding sets, very prety and cozy. Hope can help you.http://www.victoriasdeco.com/category/29206420821/1/Bedroom.htm

Where is best to move in Orange County, CA?
Q. I am moving from NY to California after my birthday in late September. I am looking for somewhere clean and safe walking/skateboarding distance from the beach with good surf (3-5ft). I'd really like to be able to take buses to a nearby cultural city center with a good vibe music/art/shopping/restaurants/clubs and plenty of young adults. I am looking for somewhere that is also close to a local college without very selective admissions/affordable. I would rather be closer to the beach than a city. Anyone have some good advice as to where in California I should set my sights on?

A. Aliso Viejo, Laguna Niguel, Laguna beach, San Clemente.

be prepare $1400 for one bedroom apt.

What to do about noisy neighbors when the landlord will not get involved?
Q. My husband and I live in a small apartment building. Last year or so a white trash family moved in upstairs. They have no jobs, just living off welfare, child support, unemployment and state disability.

They act like they are the only family in this small 4 unit building and they rule the roost. They do not respect the assigned parking and park in our spot when ever we leave for more than 5 minutes. The complex laundry room has set hours of 8am to 9:30pm because it connects to the master bedrooms of the 2 lower units. They do their laundry at 4am! It wakes everyone on the bottom floor up!

To top off the rest of their selfish behavior they do not respect the 10pm quiet time. They fight and throw things, have sex loudly like porn stars so the whole world hears them(including their own kid!) and slam their doors to make the walls in our unit shake and knock pictures down.

The landlord has been called almost weekly sometimes daily for these complaints. He ASKS them if they are making any noise instead of reminding them of the rules. Of course when asked they say they are asleep by 10pm but this is utter bull as they wake us up at all hours with their noise.

The landlord has been getting calls from the other 3 families about them for over a year but refuses to do ANYTHING! The police are called on a weekly basis by everyone in the building and half the time they do not even show up.

Is there some way I can help the landlord realize he needs to get rid of these hicks? Is there some law I can mention to the landlord or a government service I can notify? We live in Orange County, California.
When they first moved in we did try to be polite and friendly. That ended when I asked if they could keep the noise down at 2am and the BF said "Shut the F*** up!"

Not only are the adults trash the kid is a sexual deviant that is exposing himself to the little girls in the building, defecating in the bushes outside our door and playing with himself in the laundry room! He is 11!

A. In the state of California if a tenant is regularly making so much noise so as to disturb other tenants, this can be grounds for eviction. The premise being that every tenant has a right to peaceful enjoyment of one's premises. At issue is getting the landlord to enforce this right and take action against a tenant who is being too noisy. The landlord would need to follow standard eviction procedures (if a tenant has a lease, the landlord would need to notify the tenant in writing that his offending conduct needs to stop prior to actually filing for eviction) and would need to show evidence in court that the tenant has been bothering others with his noise.

If a tenant is constantly being disturbed by other tenants, and the landlord does not take action, a tenant has grounds for terminating the lease and moving out. The tenant must follow the procedure in California Civil Code 1492, which requires the tenant to notify the landlord of problems (lawyers recommend sending a letter). If the problem is not corrected within a reasonable period of time, the tenant may choose to move elsewhere.

Please note the legal difference between "terminating" a lease and "breaking" a lease. You would be terminating your lease regardless of whether it is a month to month tenancy or longer. You would not be breaking it and therefore would not be subject to penalties.

You may also have grounds to go after the landlord for punitive damages in the event that you have no choice to but move. This would include moving costs etc. I am not saying that you would get these but at the very least you would not be sued for breaking your lease.

Here are some contacts you can get in touch with for support:

If you have been dealing with an agent of the landlord, such as a property manager, you may want to directly contact the owner of the rental unit. The name, address and telephone number of the owner and the property manager, or the person who is authorized to receive legal notices for the owner, must be written in your rental agreement (or lease) or posted conspicuously in the building. You can also contact your County Assessor's Office for this information.

Local consumer protection agency. See the City and County Government listings in the white pages of the phone book.
Local housing agency. See the City and County Government listings in the white pages of the phone book.
Local district attorney's office. See the County Government listings in the white pages of the phone book.
City or county rent control board. See the City and County Government listings in the white pages of the phone book.
Local tenant association, or rental housing or apartment association. Check the white (business) and Yellow Pages in the phone book.
Local tenant information and assistance resources.
Local dispute resolution program.
You may also obtain information from the California Department of Consumer Affairs' Consumer Information Center at (800) 952-5210 or (916) 445-1254. For TDD, call (800) 326-2297 or (916) 322-1700. You can also visit the Department of Consumer Affairs' Web site at www.dca.ca.gov.

Moving to Garden Grove, California?
Q. I currently live in NY and just graduated from a community college. I'm moving to Garden Grove this summer. I applied to CSU Long Beach, Fullerton for my engineering major but they didn't take any more application, even for the year 2012. CSU Northridge admitted me, but I don't want to transfer there because it's far away from Garden Grove. My plan is to spend a year working while waiting to be a CA resident. I can't afford non-resident tuition. I'm wondering that after I get residency and ready for college, will I be able to apply to any CSU school since they all say close for applications?
Another question, what is the range of renting a 2 BR apartment/townhouse?
Serious answers would be appreciated!

A. No, the chances of applying does not go up if you become a resident. The colleges are actually more interested in out of state students so they can make more money off of them. Why are you so set on Garden Grove if you don't even have a place set up? You are moving to a city where you have no plans, no concept of cost of living and I assume, no job lined up? The facts of California right now is that there are virtually no jobs (especially ones to live off of) and just no opportunities. How were you planning on paying for ANY apartment right now, let alone a two bedroom. Apartments in most of Southern California (Orange County to L.A. area) start at about 1200 in an OK area and only go up from there. A decent two bedroom would start anywhere from 1500 and up. How are you planning on supporting yourself on minimum wage? 8 dollars an hour will barely allow you to eat and have a car, so you will be homeless. Jobs are near impossible to find right now, even minimum wage ones, so if you have zero concept or plan then do not bother. You will be homeless and begging to go back home.

How many different records has The Dark Knight broken?

Q. And a list of what records and if you felt especially nice, perhaps add how much money it has made to date???

10 points to fullest answer

A. "The Dark Knight" continues to obliterate box-office records, crossing the $300 million mark in just 10 days.

The epic Batman saga grossed $75.6 million in its second weekend in theaters, pushing its domestic total to $314,245,000, Warner Bros. head of distribution Dan Fellman said Sunday. That surpasses the record set in 2006 by "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest," which took 16 days to make $300 million.

Coming in second place was "Step Brothers," which had a strong opening with $30 million. The comedy reunites Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly, co-stars of "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby," as 40-year-olds who've never left home and are forced to share a bedroom when their parents get married.

ABBA musical "Mamma Mia!" had a strong third place in its second week, pulling $17.9 million, and the weekend's other big release, "The X-Files: I Want to Believe," came in fourth with an estimated $10.2 million.

"The Dark Knight" already had broken records for best opening weekend at $158.4 million and best single-day with $66.4 million. It's also busted records in its showings on IMAX screens, making $16.3 million in its first 10 days.

Fellman expects that the latest Batman installment could reach $400 million in about 18 days, which would beat the record "Shrek 2" set in 2004 when it made that much money in 43 days.

"What can you say? We've been getting a lot of repeat business coming in," Fellman said. "Our audience is expanding, like you would expect with terrific word-of-mouth and strong reviews. Our audience is getting a little bit older, that's the good news."

"The Dark Knight" could pass "Titanic" as the highest-grossing film in U.S. history, said Paul Dergarabedian, president of Media By Numbers. James Cameron's 1997 extravaganza made $600,788,188 domestically, a record no movie has come close to touching.

furniture - staining to black lacquer?
Q. I have a dresser and chest that are about 30-40 years old they have the typical medium wood stain with a clear lacquer finish. I want to stain them black and was wondering the best way to do that. Can I simply make minor repairs and get a black lacquer finish and go over the current? Or do i have to get a stripper chemical, strip the whole thing just to refinish it in black? and then add a clear coat

A. If the existing finish is intact & tight ,this is an easy way to go esp if stripping is not required.
Basically, forget it is a piece of" furniture"
Have painted a number of bedroom sets ( usually black or white).
If you or a friend who can help have auto body skills , just pretend it's a fender.
Auto, spotting putty, sanding primer, color coat & clearcoat.
Light sanding to "scuff" the surface, spotting putty for dings,
prime,& respot as required.
The primer can be wet/dry sanded just like fenderwork.
Once you cannot see or feel any imperfections, start colorcoating.
I had spray equipt which made it faster , but decent spraycans will do just fine if you follow directions.
Several thin coats of any finish are better than going for fast coverage,
The well dried colorcoats can also be wet/dry sanded in between if needed.
Apply an "in between " coat to any details & sharp corners..
C ange direction of spray on each coat
Keep the piece clean between coats .
Plenty of light.
All common body shop practices.
Would raise the pieces so that you can move around for even
painting.
Not all that clever considering that most factory painted pieces use lacquer..... basically auto paint.
You can hand rub auto lacquer to a high finish & clearcoating is up to you.
Now you have a "Buick" that you can put your undies in.
You can keep the shine up w/ what else...auto wax.
Est.less than &50 for everything including painters masks.
Guessing a "pro" would charge $300 or so.
Take your time & you can expect excellent results.
Best regards

Graceland Mansion? How are the rooms laid out?
Q. I am trying to find a map or guide on the internet that will show me the way the Mansion is laid out. Or some way to find out? I have searched through so many websites and images, and suprisingly I can find one.

A. Upon entering Graceland, the white staircase, filled with reflective mirrors, is directly in front of you. To the right is the Living Room with the adjoining Music Room, it is the first room to be presented on the tour. There are rails up prohibiting you to go fully into the Living Room and you can only see part of the Music Room which is hidden behind a doorway framed by vivid large peacocks set in beautiful stained glass. It was here in this doorway, in front of the stained glass that Elvis' casket was placed for the funeral held in his home. What you can see in the Music Room is a white baby grande piano and a old 70's style TV. The Living Room is almost imposing with its larger than life 9 foot solid white sofa that sits against the wall that overlooks Graceland's front yard. To your left is a white firplace, immaculant, everything perfectly displayed in its place. Here in the Living Room hangs the painting that was Elvis' last Christmas present from his father Vernon, also displayed here are photographs of Elvis' parents Vernon and Gladys Presley, Elvis and Lisa Marie. These rooms are then followed with a walk past the grand stair case to Elvis' parents room.

In Elvis's parent's bedroom once again white is the prominent color. A dramatic velvet looking dark purple bedspread drapes elegantly onto the floor at the foot of the queen size bed. The walls, dresser, bed and carpet are bright white. Once again a rail prohibits you from going directly inside the room, to your right is the closet, sealed with see through glass showing 4 or 5 of dresses Gladys' wore. To the left is a pink full bathroom, almost obscured from sight because of your velvet rope barrier.

Next the tour takes you into the dining room and the kitchen. The tour continues through the basement, where Elvis's media room with its three televisions can be viewed. A bar and billiards room can also be found. The tour continues back upstairs, through the famous Jungle Room. After the Jungle room, you exit the house to the backyard, past Lisa Marie's childhood swingset, to a small white building that served as his father Vernon's office. Through the office there is a small room containing a scale model of the home he was born in Tupelo, Mississippi. In what used to be an old smokehouse you come upon Elvis' shooting range. Down the sloping lawn, past beautiful horses grazing behind the neat white fences, you enter the "Trophy Room". Originally this space was just a sidewalk behind the house that Elvis had enclosed to store his many items of appreciation. Just inside is Elvis' famous gold lamé suit from his early years.

The Living Room, GracelandThere is much to see every where at Graceland, in the Trophy Room there seem to be few walls that are uncluttered with records, movie posters, old time memorabilia of lipstick and shoes, even a 1950's Elvis doll. The Trophy Room has everything from the three Grammy's Elvis won to Priscilla's wedding dress, Elvis' wedding tuxedo, Lisa Marie's toy chest and baby clothes to the infamous hall of Elvis' many gold records and awards. The Trophy Room then winds you down the halls through a display of his 68 Comeback, featuring his leather suit, his personal copies of his movie scripts, the costumes he wore in many of his movies and a few of his infamous "jumpsuits". Also in this room are all the awards and distinctions Elvis received. Also hanging on the wall is a display of the many canceled checks Elvis wrote to various charities.

Exiting the opposite side of the Trophy Room you are once again back outside on a sidewalk moving past more grazing horses, past immaculantly kept prfectly green lawns and past his still fully functioning stable of horses. Elvis's Racketball Court is next. The court now houses a display of Elvis' trademark sequined "jumpsuits".

Suggestions for bedroom colour(s) to match furniture etc...?
Q. Main bedroom: Consists of oak flooring, dark leather kingsize bed with large square stitched leather headboard and two dark rosewood chest of drawers. The bed with furniture takes up alot of the floor space.
Bedding, curtains/blinds need to be changed as well so I have basically a blank canvas.
I would like something dramatic instead of a white or cream but need help....can anybody suggest some good colour combinations?????

A. Browns, tans, blues and greens would look good, I think. First, find the comforter that you want to use and choose the paint color from it. Here are some I hope you like:

Where should I get furniture?
Q. I live in Eugene, Or and want to know where to buy furniture because I've been told to never buy a bed or a couch used. Also, how much should I be spending on a bed(queen), couch, and Bookshelf if I just want cheap stuff to use in my first apartment?

A. You are in luck. You have two Big Lots stores in your area that have furniture departments. Here's the link with the map:

http://www.biglots.com/store-locator?zipCode=&city=eugene+&state=OR

Mattresses with pricing (bed frames are separate):
http://www.biglots.com/browse/furniture/mattresses/queen-mattresses

Sofas, loveseats, sectionals
http://www.biglots.com/browse/furniture/living-room/sofas-loveseats-and-sectionals?sortBy=&offset=0&max=9

You are correct in that mattresses and sofas should be bought new, whenever possible, to limit your exposure to bed-bugs and other pests. If you cannot afford brand new, at least invest in the bed bug protector covers (like protect a bed brand) for your mattress and your box spring. Basic metal bed frames go for about $80 - $100. When buying a bed, you will want to lie down on the mattress you are considering for at least 15 - 20 minutes and in every position you sleep in. The reason you are giving it that amount of time is to determine whether it's comfortable for the way you sleep or you'll end up with sore spots. (Me, I sleep either on my back or on my side. The last time we bought a mattress set, I did not test it by lying on my side for a time - because I was self-conscious. We bought within our budget and it ended up being the most uncomfortable thing to sleep on. I'd wake up in the morning with my shoulder & hip sockets sore/aching because I'd slept on my side and the mattress was firm. We later had to throw more money at it and invest in a memory foam mattress topper just so that we did not wake up sore. The moral of my story is this: Take however long you need to determine if it's going to be a comfortable bed for you before you buy it.)

Case goods like coffee/end tables, dining tables, bookcases, dressers and nightstands can be safely purchased second-hand from thrift stores, resale shops, used furniture stores. Those stores are a great option if the things you need don't have to "match" or come in sets. A lot of times, you can find good quality wood furniture at very reasonable prices. If you go with this option, you may want to cultivate a few different sources because thrift/resale shopping can be very much feast or famine: A wide variety or slim pickings. IKEA book cases are relatively inexpensive. If you'd prefer to buy it new in a box and have the pleasure of putting it together yourself, the Sauder brand is good and the directions are easy to understand. You can get those from stores like Wal-mart, K-Mart, Target and such.

Another option for case goods, housewares and lamps & such would be garage sales.

I can safely vouch for the quality of the furniture at Big Lots because I know people who bought their living room set & bedroom set from them and have been very satisfied, plus they've had it for years and it's still going strong. Good luck to you and I hope that this helps.

where can i get cheap bedding?
Q. where online or in store can i find sheets, pillow cases, and bed skirts for under $30? not wal-mart or target please. it's for a teen bedroom. and queen sized bed.

A. JCPenney's has a great bedding sale right now. 7piece sets for as low as $24.95 (on clearance). They also have a great customer service department.

Interior Design for a Bedroom Tips NEEDED...?
Q. I will be getting an apartment/house with my fiance in the near future after we get married in December, and I would like to know what colors would go well together in a bedroom. I'm thinking a lot of white and light-meduim hued gray-blues...I want something relaxing and calm that will be a peaceful place to sleep. I'm not open to purple, we both dislike the color. Soft greens can also be an option. Any suggestions are welcome...thank you!

A. Start with some bedding that you both love. Here's some I hope you like:

How to make my bedroom better!?

Q. Hi everyone! So im 14 and I want to make my room alot more like a teen bedroom, but i dont mean like posters of bands and all that stuff, i want like bright colors and cool stuff like that, somewhere where me and my friends can just hang out, right now my room is soo broing, the walls are a light pale purple white yellowish-white carpet and white furniture and my bed doesnt have a headboard, it has one of those white net-canopy things, I;v tried re arranging the furniture and everythign but it still doesnt work. I shtere any way I could make a huge difference without having to paint the walls or buy a bunch of new stuff, I can buy some new stuff just not paint and new bed sets and stuff. Anyway, any help would be appreciated, Thanks! And by the way if anybody knows any sites with good tips for teen bedrooms that would help alot oo! Thanks!
By the way, my room isnt very big and the furniture is pretty outdated.

A. Try looking for a new comforter, pillows and sheets for your bed. You could look at target.com, delias.com, or even ebay.com, which has thousands of bed options! For a splash of color, buy bright accessories for your white furniture- maybe a bright notebook to put on your desk, or bright jewelry to hang on your dresser.

Also, to brighten up your canopy, go out and find 4 colors of ribbon that you like and would match your room well. Cut these into 3 feet long pieces and tie into bows, then safety pin or glue to the canopy. It adds interest, dimension, and an overall pretty quality.

If you have curtains, you can also tie these back using the same ribbon you used for the canopy.

Find a cute rug and lay it by your door or your bed. If it's soft, it feels great to step onto first thing in the morning!

Get a bulletin board, cute wrapping paper, matching buttons, and ribbon. Glue the wrapping paper to the board, then make a criss-cross design with the ribbon. Stick photos and such behind the ribbon for an extremely cute bulletin board!
(If you don't know what I'm talking about, click here for a visual:

I hope that helps you! Good luck with your room.

How many windows does a bedroom have to have to be considered a bedroom?
Q.

A. You can sleep anywhere you like, but to sell a house as having "x" number of bedrooms, each bedroom you claim has to meet a legal standard set by building codes.

Legal bedrooms need an egress window, as others have said. This window must be operable (capable of opening) and a certain minimum size, both total area, and in each dimension. The size is determined by local building codes, but there are national standards. Your city planning department can give you correct info for your area. I haven't heard of the closet requirement--all the remodel jobs I've done either had closets already or the clients wanted one, so it wasn't an issue. I'm remodeling my own house now, so will check that requirement out. In my area, there is also a minimum floor area for a legal bedroom--100 SF, I believe.

What do I need for my first home?
Q. Furniture, linens, pots & pans, everything.

What do I need for :

-Foyer/Hall
-Dining Room
-Kitchen
-Living Room
-Bathroom
-Master Bedroom
-two other bedrooms
-Two car garage
-Basement

Please be detailed, if you have a link to a website that would be great too !

God Bless xx

A. Start out basic and then you can add on.

If you don't have anything at all to start with but have unlimited resources financially, hire a decorator.

If not, find a comfortable bed you like, set of dishes, pots and pans, cooking utensils, throw rugs, sofa, reading chair, a few end tables, night stand, set of towels you like the color of, and then build on those. Curtains last.

Bedding depends upon the climate. Light blankets for warmer climates and down or wool quilts for winters where there is snow and possible power outages.

For outside there are two basics; a lawn mower and a garden hose.

You will figure out how much stuff you need and the sizes of beds and how much furniture can hold based upon the dimensions of each room. A large basket of towels may not fit in a master bathroom, but it can if the size is right and ease space in the linen storage area.

If you travel a lot it's much easier if you have no live plants or pets to take care of.

What is a good paint color for a bedroom?
Q. They have many colors to choose from these days any suggestions ??Looking not to dark and not to light in between color to add life to my room ...

A. It depends on what mood you wish to achieve for your bedroom. Different colors are said to have different effects on the human psychology. For more information, you might like to look up color psychology for this. Color psychology is a study concerned with the effects of color on mood, emotion, behavior.

Color is also often used to represent certain characteristics or image, depending on what the room is used for. Here are some ways colors are used, either psychologically or as a representation of certain ideas/image-building:-

Blue - calls to mind feelings of calmness or serenity. It is often described as peaceful, tranquil, secure, and orderly. Some would say that a blue space feels cooler too!

Yellow - a bright color that is often described as cheery and warm. Ive read somewhere that a yellow room feels warmer somehow compared to a room with the same dimensions and temperature setting that is painted blue.

Red - a bright, warm color that evokes strong emotions. Deep Red or maroon is also often related to passion. Ive read somewhere that the color red and orange could help trigger hungry thoughts, and thats why many restaurants (especially fast food retails) use a lot of red in their decors and corporate logos.

Green - a cool color that symbolizes nature and the natural world. Some say its a good color for spiritual healing.

Pink - essentially a light red and is usually associated with love and romance. Its also often thought of as a color to express femininity

Purple - the symbol of royalty and wealth. A rich and luxurious color and rather overwhelming if applied to every plane of the bedroom walls especially if the room is small. You might like to use it only as a feature wall (like, where your beds headboard rests against) and have all the other walls in lighter or softer colors.

White represents purity or innocence. It also makes the room feel airier and bigger. Its also the most environmental-friendly color choice because it reflects light so you dont need to use that many lighting fixtures at one time or another.

Black is often associated with death and morning in many cultures. It is also associated with unhappiness, and even sexuality (masculine). On the other hand, black also represents formality, and sophistication. Imagine a combination of black and silver. Or black and gold.

Brown is a natural color that evokes a sense of strength and reliability. Personally, I wouldnt use brown paint for internal walls. Brownish wallpapers are okay or if I want a more natural feel to areas like the kitchen or living room, Ill just use natural stone cladding or timber paneling for the feature walls.

Whoa okay so I like talking about spatial treatment it's a part of my job! Sorry for rambling on so. Anyway, heres a website that could help derive the perfect paint color for you. http://www.dulux.co.uk/colours/experts/colour_consultant/index.jsp

Happy painting, Rita!

Bedroom Makeover?

Q. I want to make my bedroom into a quiet, calming space, that also feels light and airy; a place that I can go to feel at peace. I was wondering what type of colours you would recommend, and any other decorating tips I can use to achieve this.

A. the best color for creating a feel of airiness and space is a pale soft gray. it should have just a subtle hint of green in it for warmth and earthiness. a color like this, for example: Sherwin Williams "Austere gray".
straight uncluttered lines and an accent on horizontal rather than vertical lines will create a relaxing and meditative aura.
minimize or eliminate frills, ruffles, and primary colors.busy patterns, and heavy ornamentation.
use earthy colors for accent such as, grey, black, rust, ocher, sage, tan, terra cotta, and even turquoise in very small doses. And the warm spice colors, such as cinnamon, paprika, saffron, nutmeg, chili, turmeric. these colors are warming yet tranquil. Avoid sharp contrasts in your color palette, and try to use matte as opposed to gloss sheen
on surfaces. Stay away from pure white, pink, and any neon bright colors.
you can use metallic colors such as copper, bronze, iron, pewter. but avoid gold, brass, and chrome, stainless steel, and glass.
Incorporate some natural texture into the space as well as color. think about using bamboo, rattan, leather, slate, burlap. and use some natural dried plant and flower for decor, cat tails look wonderful in this kind of setting, as do dried grasses, willow branches, pine cones, dried seed pods, pussy willows, reeds.

where you use rattan furniture?
Q. i was wondering do people usally put rattan furnitures in the living room as decorations??? Or do you put them somewhere else in the house than the living room?

A. Rattan or wicker furniture can be used in any and every room of your home. Many people like to use them as an accent piece, a chair or a table mixed with other furniture. Another way they may be used is in a sun room, or Florida room. Upscale Rattan or wicker sets are beautiful in the dining or kitchen area. They are now making outside wicker for open decks and patios. A rattan or wicker chair and table look great in a bedroom. A rattan or wicker chest can go anywhere from the living room, dining room, kitchen or the bath room. There really is no limit to where you may use them or for what purpose. Hope this helps.

I would love to have a tropical themed bedroom someday?
Q. Currently, my fiance' and I live in an apartment, so we are limited on decorating (not allowed to paint walls or created any major holes in the walls, etc). But I would still love to have some ideas for having a tropical themed bedroom for when we get a house in the future. I don't want to have flowers and palm trees painted on the walls, but I would like it to have a tropical feel. Maybe having the room look like the inside of a little tropical get-a-way cabin. I remember seeing some home-design show (I think it was While You Were Out) where they did a tropical themed bedroom by making the windows shuttered, wood floors, light colored walls, etc.

Anyone have any ideas? Or if you were able to find the link to that particular show, I will give you best answer.

A. Keep it simple, think Ernest Hemingway or island cabana look. Crisp white linens, gauzy white drapes or bamboo shades. Don't get cheesy with palm print bedspread or wall paper. Wicker or rattan pieces can help create that look too.

Of course its up to you, but I'm all about regional design, like my Friend's mom has a really overly done tropical look bedroom and she lives in suburban Minnesota. I'm sure you don't see a lot of North Woods rec rooms with loons and moose in south Florida?

You can get the beachy-island look without looking like the set of the Golden Girls

anyone know how to find a mechanical skill point after optimum alfred sets challenge on sims 2 ds?

Q. ive been waiting for 2 weeks now and the skill points dont seem to be available!! ?Ive tried the skip time mode.

A. "Your new Goal is:

'Earn Mechanical 5, break into the Penthouse, and steal the Blueprints.'

The Concierge will tell you now that: 'Psst!... for your information, it seems
Alfred has been sneaking out of his room every night between 6 p.m. and 10
p.m. to recharge his batteries. Just thought you should know.'

This is a vital piece of information. Once you earn the 5 Mechanical skills,
you only can access the Penthouse between 6.00 p.m. and 10.00 p.m., even
though you can 'hack' your way into the Penthouse lift at any time of the day
or night.

There is no way to 'earn' Mechanical skills except by finding them in the
hotel at various locations. They appear only for 8 hours in any location, so
you have to be diligent in this 'treasure hunt' if you wish to obtain them as
quickly as possible. All Skill points in every category are 'earned' in this
manner, and they appear to be offered in an entirely random sequence. You
could find 3 Charisma Skill Points before finding more than 1 Mechanical Skill
Point. Look at the Skill Point Calendar for all Skills. I have included a
list of the days, times and locations where Mechanical Skill Points are found
below."

"If you are impatient to find 5 Mechanical Skills, here is a schedule for
finding them:

On Monday at 8.00 a.m. in the northwest corner of the Government Laboratory
On Monday at 4.00 p.m. at the shrine dedicated to Auda Sherif in Mamma Hogg's
bedroom
On Tuesday 12.01 a.m. in the blue corrugated carton in the Secret Warehouse
On Tuesday at 4.00 p.m. in the Furnace Room, above the pallet
On Wednesday at 4.00 p.m. in the Vault, above the pallet
On Thursday at 8.00 a.m. in the Furnace Room above the pallet
On Thursday at 4.00 p.m. next to the stairs in the Basement
On Friday at 12.01 a.m. in the Freezer
On Saturday at 12.01 a.m. in an alcove in the Atrium Centre
On Saturday 4.00 p.m. in the Government Laboratory

Remember that this list gives the earliest time that the Skill Point can be
found in that specific location and that each Skill Point will remain in any
given location for a total of 8 hours."

Where can I go to download for the ORIGINAL Sims 2 game?
Q. I would like to know what website(s) I can go to, to download clothes, new hairstyles..etc. for The Sims 2 (Not 'the sims 2 PETS', or 'the sims 2 VACATION', or any of those other ones, just 'The Sims 2'). Thanks.

A. http://www.modthesims2.com they have alot of things for the base game... LOTS and its free all of it. You just need to download the CEP to get recolors of meshes thats already in the sims base game. Also they have so much talent that there are alot of meshes made from base game objects. Everything is labeled nicely (most of the time. They are good about that stuff there.)

http://hnote.net/ lots of nice male clothes. Make sure you get the meshes.

http://www.simpathetic.com/genetics.htm complusive D's Dreads.. they can't be found anywhere anymore except here (compulsive D left the sims community) and some awesome nice ethnic skintones

http://www.digitalperversion.net/ i love her hair recolors which normally have the mesh included with the download as well as a link to the original How can you not like these recolors http://www.digitalperversion.net/downloads/hair/radicalangel/radicalangel.html

http://www.pixelsims.com/ awesome furniture recolors and building stuff

http://www.karinssims2.webbyen.dk/ wallpapers/floors.. extravangant to cute to realistic

http://www.rensim.com/index.php lipstick!/makeup/eyes! They actually have great lipstick for my black sims *happy*

http://noukiesims2.net/ hair...nouk is impressive.. but beware.. some hair is heavy in v &f's and will slow your pc down.. you can find her on mod the sims 2 too. She posts her work there with details of the v&f's since I have about 5gigs of stuff my game runs a bit slow and I can't use some of her heavy items..lol

http://www.cinnasims.com/index.html realistic clothes for babies and kids (thats why i like it..lol)

http://www.xmsims.com/sims2/ehtm/main/index.htm loads of hair and there is a bedroom set there that is so totally a cheap set.. you but the bed for 50 simoleons and after midnight you can sell it for 1000 the longer you have it the more you can sell it for lol found here http://www.xmsims.com/sims2/ehtm/objects/bedroom01.htm

http://www.hairfish.com/mermaidcove/html/makeovers.html Her mix and match plain jane clothes and style is just brillant!! brillant I get so tired of glamourous high fashion sims.. not everyone is high fashion... so yea this site is so brillant her stuff it iconned.. if it has no icon then it works in the base game! Also her clothes are elder enabled and pregnant enabled meaning elders can were adult body clothes without looking like elders.. though they will still have the elder walk.. its still better...

sorry I wrote so much...
just make sure you read around so that you don't mess up your game and download meshes that you'll need and the CEP (color enabler) from MTS2 and and...i think that it! Hope I was some help.. oh!! on websites that i linked don't follow the links to other sites on those websites since some may be outdated and some of those sites may be down and hackers could have bought the space and uploaded a trojan to hit you when you enter some REALLY old used to be popular sites have had that happen. the site I linked are still open and active and frequently updated so don't worry about those site they are safe have fun!

What are the various ways to kill a Sim in Sims 3?
Q. I know the basics including drowning, age, electrocution, fire, and starvation. I don't know how to do the diabetes and pills ones. Help?
Um yes they do because there's a video on youtube of this guy with diabetes who then proceeds to have his head catch fire and another where he eats pills and goes into the bath and dies

A. lol ok so i dont have the sims 3 yet im still on the sims 2 but i hope some of theme are still the same, i get bored a lot soo...

trap them in a room pref. the bathroom or the bedroom and go into inventory them take out a bunch of like floor lamps and block of the door ways then just keep adding floor lamps and a bunch of like flammable shiz and stuff.

i once left my sim unattended for 3 days sim time with shifty johnny the garden gnome or whtvr his name is and by the time i got back she was blocked sitting at the kitchen table unable to move i had to end up going into inventory and deleting all the ones around her and then a fire set off in the back yard with a bunch of gnome's with shovels standing in a circle around it...i think they where mad that i kicked over there buddy in the front yard the day before...it also set off a bunch of fire codes and the next door neighbors called the fire department to come extinguish my yard...take it from me just leave your sim setting at the kitchen table the house will eventually set on fire i think lol

ummm as for the diabetics just dont give them there pills and feed them cake or something lol sugar. hope i helpedXD
