Attention Mommies: Your best tips for organization for a mommy of 4?

Q. I have four kiddos ages 5 and under, and my house drives me crazy! Any of your best cleaning/organization tips would be great.... and also, I already know about Flylady, but I'm having trouble with her system. Any tips would be great!

A. I hope I can help you, I am a foster Mom and have 12 nieces and nephews and lots of family in and out through out the week, so messes seem to come with the amount of feet in and out the door. I know about Flylady, Home Organization, Cleaning Queen, and who ever else you can think of. I had piles of cleaning, organization and clutter buster books, and the art of feng shie. You name it, chances are I have it or read it or got it at the library. Here are my best tips for getting on top of things, these are the gleaned, condensed and just plain learned the hard way stuff. Get a timer and a box. Set the timer for 10 minutes and grab the box, simply walk through the house grabbing items you hate, do not like, broken, or stuff you already have 10 of. Into the box. When the bell goes off, tape the box shut and A. Throw it in the trash B. Put it in the car and next errand run, drop it at your charity box, C. List it up on Freecycle or Craigslist and give it away or ask for a small amount of money. D. If money is the issue, take pics and put it up on Ebay and sell it, pack it and send it to someone else to dust! Continue doing this, in addition to your "cleaning schedule". After a few days of doing this, you should have just stuff you LOVE LOVE LOVE or NEED NEED NEED. Now look around, do you have items Aunt Selma gave you, and you were gonna re-paint, but never did? GET RID OF IT, give it to a friend, Freecycle or Craigslist it or set aside a time this week to paint it, fix it or whatever to it, otherwise, out it goes! You have 4 kids? Well, even at the tender age of 2, kids can understand a few basic rules. One toy out, one toy in rule. If they get a toy out, they must return it to get another one out. They can pick up stuff from the floor and hand it to you. They can "help Mommy", THEY LOVE HELPING MOMMY do stuff. They can sweep, they can dust, they can pick up. You can have them HELP with laundry, they can learn to fold clothes with you, as you show them how YOU want it done, or if you do not care, they can FOLD THEIR OWN and put it away in THEIR own drawers. You can have them HELP you load the washing machine, maybe put the soap in YOU measured and so on. This is not CHORE, this is fun for them, if you MAKE IT FUN!. The rewards, if you need to use them, can be, "if you help me clean the porch, we can paint some birdhouses", they can help lay out newspaper to protect a surface from paint, get the paper plates, and so on, they can also help throw them out when you are done. Once I got down to things I love love love and need need need, I found I had less to dust, less to fixate and get upset cause it was taking up space and I still had not fixed it painted it or whatever and just got mad at myself for letting it suck up space and walk around it, I found I could get things done a little quicker, cause the space was opening up. I found some things that were important to me, I do NOT dig filth and was not willing to let my standards down for cleanliness for dishes, clothing, floors and MY bedroom. I could however, give two figs about WHAT the kids drawers looked like, as long as the clothes WERE clean in them, their clothes were NOT on the floor and that at least twice a week I could see a clean floor in their rooms and that the kennels.....uh....er....rooms, were swept, hosed (mopped) and in general CLEANED. Same for bedding sheets. I want them washed once a week, I don't care if they slept on TOP of the covers (as one tried to explain to me as her reason for NOT bringing her sheets down once a week) no DEAL! They come down, even if NO ONE slept on them! LOL! Clothes come down daily into the laundry room. We don't do "Can I have my white t-shirt with the little roses in an hour" routine, when you have 10 other little white t-shirts you can wear instead! If you want it done for tomorrow, then it should be here in time for the next load of whites 2 hours ago. Now the kids I have here, family included, now range from 6 to 20, but I have had them from the day they were born. As soon as they can walk, we make with the "helping". We want kids to "help", we encourage, we reward and we make it a rule! Sometimes, the kids get lazy, try to get over, or just plain don't want to do it. No problem! They don't get to do the fun stuff either, no baseball, no movies, no crafts, no library and so on. HEY! I shouldn't have to do all this myself, I had help making the mess. I have learned to SHOW the kids and HELP the kids when I want something done a CERTAIN WAY!. Like I have this thing about towels, so normally, I FOLD THEM MYSELF! Now the kids know, if they are GOING TO HELP, they need to fold the towels in half, then in half and then in thirds, otherwise, leave them to me, which, sometimes, they do, and sometimes, they do it and give me the "look what I did!" and for that, I GIVE PRAISE, I resist the urge to NIT PIC, as the towels are folded how I like, so what its not perfect, let it go and move on. The things I do not let go of are CLEAN! The dishes must not have food particles on them, no soap residue, and they must not be holding water. One kid couldn't get the idea of adding PRESSURE to pots and pans and dirty dishes, until after a few weeks of being on dish duty, I offered her the plate of MY CHOICE for her to eat off of. I picked one she claimed was cleaned, I ask if she'd eat off one I picked if she thought they were all clean, sure, she said, ok, HOW ABOUT THIS ONE? Uh....no? Well I said, "I don't want to eat off of it EITHER, so now, you wash it again, and then you will eat off THAT plate, clean or dirty!" Now it may sound a little mean, but she TOTALLY got the point! I didn't yell, I didn't punish, I just offered her to eat off ANY plate I picked, and if she was cleaning them, she should be SURE it was clean enough for her to eat off of it, if she thought I was gonna eat off of it. All the sudden, those dishes were clean! Some is also, getting in there and helping them. Some kids simply don't know and we forget, they haven't learned it yet! A good "How about I "help" you with your room today?" and DO IT, and tell them, this is how I want you to clean this, scrub like this, wash this that way and put this over here and take out your trash in this bag, WHILE THEY ARE DOING IT WITH YOU! It can be fun, I talk about school, friends, an maybe talk about clothes, I may even get a little fashion show of what do you think about this with that? Its quality time together AND a chore getting done completely. Now this isn't something you do EVERY DAY, but here and there, you do it. I have 2 days a week that we are dealing with trash. One is on Wednesday, as the trash goes out Wednesday evening and is picked up on Thursday. I empty the fridge of compost and guess what this Was? That way it isn't stinking up the trash cans all week. Then on Saturday, all the trash cans are emptied again (minus fridge waste) and put in the bins outside while we have our push for clean floors, laundry, kitchen, bedrooms, and bathrooms. Now during the week, daily, we have a dish chore, a floor chore for the kitchen, dining room, butlers pantry and living room. Those floors must be swept, mopped or vacuumed daily. I like the bathrooms cleaned at least twice weekly for the kids, my own, I am picky, so mine is one little chore daily, but on Saturday, anything I missed and a wash down top to bottom. Beds are weekly, clothes and laundry, as a load forms (whites, light colors, dark colors, towels). Hallways are weekly and throw rugs as needed (usually once a week to 2 weeks, depending on how much use and filth shows up, once they LOOK dirty, up they come and on to the laundry). The kitchen is wiped down daily, but a total wash down of counters, stoves and so on is on Saturday. I pick one to two things a week to tackle, such as a closet, organizing a corner of the basement for the gardening, bicycles, tools, Etc. I may wash down the cabinets in the kitchens or a bathroom, empty a linen closet, empty a drawer. Using the timer is a good way to get into this habit. Set the timer for no more than 20 minutes, do not answer the phone, invite no one over. Empty the junk drawer in the kitchen, sort it, throw stuff out, dispose of dead batteries, file it, whatever. Timer goes off, be done! This one worked really good for me, because I would accomplish SOMETHING that was needing to be done and it was something small, but in the end, had a big impact as they added up, one at a time! If you can fit in one afternoon a month, to say, clean out the garage, fine. If not, go corner by corner for 20 minutes at a crack. You can organize one section, one shelf, one drawer in 10-20 minutes. Add it up and at the end of a month, its all done! If you have a zone that gets on your nerves, just give it 10 minutes, grab a box, fill it with stuff that doesn't belong in there, put it where it belongs. Next time, grab the duster, run and dust everything you can in 10 minutes. Next time, empty a drawer and so on. Get a schedule and determine what days you will have free time to say tackle something more extensive, and plan something FUN afterwards. Like cleaning out the garage, a basement, the attic. Spend two hours on it with the family, everyone HELPS! Kids can carry, kids can put this on that shelf, they can be great little gofers and picker uppers. If you have rooms that aren't that important right now, let it go, for now, deal with it when YOU WANT to. I think half of the problem with getting organized and staying clean, is the feeling we must do it all in one day, and the simple fact is, it didn't get dirty overnight and its not going to get DONE overnight either. RELAX! Do it in baby steps, just work on the stuff that giv

What bedroom furniture matches with this bed?
Q. I need ideas of bedroom furniture to match this bed.
Please help.

Here is the link to the bed.

ANY IDEAS ON MATCHING DRESSERS, VANITY SETS, OTTOMANS, AND SO ON IS TRUELY APPRECIATED

A. Off white (shabby-chick) furniture and change all the knobs to big english drop pulls in an oil rubbed bronze or matte black.Pick up the design of the metal work on the bed somewhere like some black and white/cream toile wallpaper on one wall or lamp shades or draperies etc. in a black toile, not too much though or it will look overdone. I would get bedding similar too what is shown on the bed, it's perfect.Would also do walls in an off-white, this keeps things subtle/dreamy/romantic and will make the bed"pop" if your into that look. I am! Love the bed!

I need a bedroom makover please help me?
Q. I have a small bedroom...i Want to be able to relax and do my homework in....it needs to be very organzied....and i want a tropical feel

A. A big trick a lot of people over look when re-doing small rooms is the use of mirrors! Now Im NOT saying go and PUt floor to ceiling mirrors in your room, but when your in a small room, simply just adding a mirror to the wall makes the room feeling a lot More open.

So since you have a small room painting the walls a dark color would be a bad idea! Dark colors cause rooms to feel smaller and sometimes cramped! So for your room I would suggest a cream color or an off-white:

http://www.framingsupplies.com/images/Crescent/Misc/WhiteSampler.jpg

Any of those would work! The off white lets the room feel open, and also symbolizes the sand of a tropical Paradise!
If that's too boring and you want to get a little more interesting with the wall color go with a light or pastel blue:

http://www.bubblyfunk.co.uk/images/Cardstock%208x8%20Pastel%20Blue.JPG

This is a fun color, but still keeps the room feeling open!

Now since you want tropical, and you want a place to do your homework, a desk is essential! Having a wicker plain white desk Gives it that clean, organized feel, but still keeps the room fun and tropical:

http://i.walmartimages.com/i/p/00/63/01/16/81/0063011681107_215X215.jpg

Also a white wicker bed frame would be ideal to continue the look throughout the room. I don't know what size bed you have. Queen.? Twin? But as long as you understand the white wicker than that's fine:

http://maggymoon.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/180-classic-white-rattan-bed.jpg

This is a JcPenny Bed set! Well priced. Its comfortable well made and simple. So as you get older if you don't like tropical anymore you wont have to change your bed set you can just change the theme:

http://www2.jcpenney.com/jcp/X6E.aspx?GrpTyp=ENS&ItemID=1649c84&DeptID=70750&CatID=77512&SO=0&x5view=1&Ne=4294957900+877+1031+1007+580+8+966+18+904+949+833&pagesize=1&shopperType=G&N=4294940584&Nao=0&PSO=0&CmCatId=70750|77512

I'm not sure weather you are a boy or a girl, but those bed sets have different colors. For the boys I would recommend the blue and brown one. The blue will go well with the wall. For the girls I would choose the yellow, pink, and orange one. IT would be fun and symbolize the sunset.

Since you don't have a lot of room in your room. I suggest adding a lot of wall decoration! One way to get GREAT wall decorations (And have a lot of fun doing it) Is for you and your boyfriend/girlfriend/friends/family to take a ton of pictures! I don't know about you, but I love taking pictures! Or you could get pictures you print off from online that have to do with the beach. Surfboards, sunsets, birds, etc. Then once all of your pictures are printed go and get frames for them! They don't have to be the same frame! Then get spray paint (the same white that is in your room) and spray paint all of the frames! Then put the pictures in the frame and hang them in a similar set up like this: (except with more pictures or course!)

http://www.manobluedesign.com/manoblueblog/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/picture-1.png

It will look really modern and cool! It also will be a lot of fun taking the pictures AND will add a personal touch to your room! Also when painting your room, have the doors and trim stay white. If you do choose the yellow comforter your walls can be the orange that matches your bed set.

If you want to add more fun stuff to your walls go and buy a stencil. For guys you could get a stencil of a surfboard that matches the color of your bed set! And for girls, you could get the stencil of a tropical flower! Pink maybe that matches yours! Also you said you wanted to feel relaxed. I quick and simple thing that could make your room feel relaxed is adding a simple water feature! :

I want to buy online bedding, lighting, flooring for decorating my home.?
Q.

A. I telling you.

#1. The Lithonia Lighting 11750 BN M4 Saturn One-Light Fluorescent Semi Flush-Mount Ceiling Fixture is a contemporary light fixture has a white acrylic diffuser globe housed by two brushed nickel steel rings. The Saturn adds style to any room in the house. Also works for light commercial applications.

This Lithonia fixture is very well built and was easy to install. All the included hardware is of reasonable quality. The ballast and lamp are off brands so we'll see how long they last, but they're easy enough to replace later.

Please check the 20% discount at here >> http://goo.gl/AcPG7.

#2. look at this 8 Pieces Luxury Brown, Cream, and Black with Floral Linen Comforter (92"x96" in Inch) Set / Bed-in-a-bag Queen Size Bedding. This comforter set is gorgeous. However, the under side of it is very thin and I'm constantly afraid that it's going to rip. And the top of it is VERY scratchy. Luckily I bought this for my guest bedroom, not for my master bedroom. So since it's only used a few times a year, I'm ok with it being nicer to look at then to feel. I probably wouldn't have purchased this if I had felt it in person before buying though.

how do I setup a play area for my 3 year old son in a 1 bedroom apartment?

Q. I have moved from a single family home to a 1 bedroom apartment. My son used to have his own toy room. Now the only place I have for him is the dining area. We dont use a dining table so we decided to use that area as his toy / play area. Any ideas on how I can organize that area so that I can make it his play area ?

A. Ikea has great kids organizational tubs and shelving. Not expensive, and a good way to keep order. A cheapy solution is to buy a collasable kids tent for him to play in.

Any decorating ideas for a teenage bedroom?
Q. I really wanna decorate my room. It's so boring. I live in an apartment, which sucks because I can't paint it! Does anyone have any ideas on how to decorate it? Plus, I'm on a low-budget!
Also, does anyone know where to get damask wall stickers?

A. You're lucky, I've recently been introduced to a new style of wall designing perfect for tenants who don't own their space/room/apartment. No need to paint or worry about wall stains from glues. The designs are decals pressed up to the walls. Very easy to setup, too!

Visit this website:

They've a VERY wide range of designs. From kiddie, to teens, to nature, to grownup, oh, so many!!!

how do you remove and replace smoke detectors?
Q. The chirping started at about 4:00a and it does not stop, the battery is fine and I did replace it with a new one anyway; I am afraid that if I disconnect it it will go off and wake up my neighbors; maybe if I remove the battery first, then I unwire it it will stop? Any ideas? I can't find the instructions nor a diagram for my model on line

A. Well some smoke detectors have a special wire that basically puts in in line or in tune with other smoke detectors in your home.

For example, we have a 4 level townhome. If one smoke detector goes off all the way downstairs, our bedroom and every floor in between will also go off.

So although the battery may be dead in ONE of them, it's not necessarily the one you replaced.

That's assuming you have that sort of smoke detector setup.

As far as replacing the smoke detector. Simply disconnect it, undo the screws holding the base in place, and replace.

Disconnecting it will not sound the alarm.

Can I attach my headphones to a TV somewhat wirelessly?
Q. I have a Dynex tv mounted in my bedroom and I want to connect my headphones to it. I am wonderin if there is some sort of hub I can use that I can plug the wired headphones into and have the sound wirelessly sent to it....im pretty sure there is some kind of bluetooth item, but I dont know exactly what to get nor do I want to spend too much. Any ideas? Thanks for the help and If you need more information, let me know.

A. you can buy bluetooth gear, will cost you about $30 for a transmitter then you either need bluetooth headphones or a receiver that will prob cost you another $15 or so from the internet.

If you don't mind average sound quality you can buy one of these:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Wireless-FM-Transmitter-Car-Charger-MP3-MP4-/250728244910?pt=AU_Electronics_Portable_Audio_Accessories&hash=item3a609166ae

and one of these:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/3-5mm-Jack-2-RCA-Audio-Adapter-Cable-Ipod-MP3-1m-/190483892962?pt=AU_Electronics_Portable_Audio_Accessories&hash=item2c59b98ae2

all for under $5 and then plug some normal headphones into a cheap $2 fm radio,
that's if you have some good headphones that you like.
otherwise you can just buy the setup:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Hi-Fi-Wireless-Headphone-FM-Radio-Monitor-MP4-PC-Audio-/200555601596?pt=AU_Computers_Headphones_Microphones&hash=item2eb20b9ebc

but usually the headphone speakers won't be too great.
check ebay for 2.4ghz wireless headphones too, a bit more but better sound..

What color bedroom set will go with a sandy/gold walls?
Q. Where can I purchase good quality but inexpensive furniture?

A. Not sure where you are located there is JYSK, Ikea, independently owned furniture stores for new furniture, Dent and scratch outlets if you are in a big city Sears, The Bay, The Brick all have dent and scratch outlets, Good quality furniture that might only need touching up with a stain pen. Oak, Ash or a light colored wood would look great or blue, yellow and a light brown.
Also checkout your local thrift stores, Value Village, and bargain finder ads and any freight damaged stores in your area.
You can also try Craig's list for your area, Freecycle, or kijiji in Canada

What are some good stores for bedroom decorating?
Q. what are good stores that are going to have a big selection of bedding and furniture for your bedroom?

A. Sears is good. they've got some Ty Pennington complete bed in a bag sets like at http://tinyurl.com/27o5eoz (the url was too long so I shortened it.) Or this one, http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_096B8061000P?mv=rr
Another good place is Walmart.com, believe it or not. I found this, http://tinyurl.com/2745w57 on their site. They also have the Hometrends brand things, and they having matching rugs and curtains and things to go with them. That's for the linens and all that.
A great furniture store would be City Furniture or Ashley Furniture. I use to like Rooms to Go, but they started selling things in the last few years that are made with poor craftsmanship. they don't hold up as well as the others. Y'know... cheap.
Another good furniture place is http://www.morebedroomsets.com/ and they have free shipping until September 20th. Shake a leg on that one.
If you are looking to be frugal, scan the news paper classifieds or Ebay for pick up only items in your area. You can find some really cheap deals. For instance, my mom just sold her solid mahogany canopy bed, ottoman, and two large book cases for only $400.

If you read this, would you be intrigued to read more?

Q. I've asked this, but I'm just going to put in the beginning, not the whole first chapter.

A cool night breeze bellowed through the leaves of the proud willow trees as Princess Kelsey traveled through the garden. She shivered and ran her hand through her auburn hair frustratingly. Princess Kelsey hurried her already fast pace as she pressed on through the abundant garden established after her brother's, Prince Lewis', mother's death.
Ever since she was a little girl, the garden was her palace, instead of the castle it was planted in. She would graze her finger tips across the standing brick wall that guarded the beautiful flowers. When she found a flower, of course the most beautiful like she, she would slowly pick it from the stem and skip away, later pressing it in an unused map book. The book overflowed with flower petals, pressed between the pages.
Princess Kelsey stopped when she reached an old cobblestone path that stretched before a wooden bench. Her eyes glanced from side to side as she tiptoed across.
She wasn't supposed to be out this late. She was supposed to be snuggly tucked into her queen sized canopy bed in her oversized bedroom. But, not one to follow rules, Kelsey had heard the garden beckoning her name, and she had to venture out.
It was that, and the fact that she was meeting twenty year old, James Darcy, her father's loyalist and highest ranked knight's handsome son.
Kelsey lowered her butt to the wooden bench, trying hard not to make it creak. If she did, the palace guards would be on her in no time. It was bad enough trying to make it across the castle without being spotted.
She nervously bit her bottom lip, and pleaded that James had remembered the meeting with the princess he had known all his life.
The two grew up together on the premises of the castle, with James' family living on the opposite end away from her own. Their mothers were both remarkably the most charming the kingdom of Armithia had seen live in the castle. Their fathers were the most accomplished and idolized men seen on the grounds of the kingdom.
Kelsey and James had taken a liking to each other the first time they met, even if James was six and she was four. Unlike her twin sister, Princess Louise, her and James had gotten along greatly where as James and Louise would quarrel endlessly.
Sometimes, though, after seeing her parents fight, she thought that was what love was supposed to look like. After years of pondering and before James would be sent off to gain his beginnings of knighthood, he had kissed her in the very garden she was sitting in. It had been magical, and at that moment, she knew he liked her and not her sister.

A. To be honest, no. Romance stories bore me to tears, although i know some people like it. i find the subject of princesses corny, almost cringeworthy, as the way people portray princesses in books is way over-glamouralised as really, the true Royals in real life have little more than a valuble bloodline. I feel the names "Louise" and "James" are thoroughly overused for situations like these (ie, princesses, knights) And although Kelsey is more original, I'm personally not a huge fan of the name. And it's really annoying when a character is referred to with their title ( I.e. PRINCESS louise, PRINCESS kelsey, PRINCE lewis) I find this immensely irritating, and feel that the character would be much more justly described if it was mapped out as something like "Kelsey did this or that, blah blah blah. Kelsey was a Princess." rather than constantly referring to her as "princess kelsey".

I'm sorry, because I know I've been really harsh on you. But I thought you mighht want my honest opinion rather than a pack of lies, and it's nothing personal or particularised towards your story, they're just my feelings about the topics in general. Other than the things I mentioned, your story's good. However, I would rather you refrain from saying "butt" as it's too informal for the subject. "Lowered herself" would be more appropriate in this setting :)
Good Luck!

If you can, paint your walls in a light color and put some white trim on your walls.

You can find many good deals on the internet, especially on ebay with a bit of searching.

Also you can find a lot of things for good prices at stores like Ikea, Bed, Bath & Beyond, Target, West Elm, and Marshells.

I hope that this helped :)

Vintage-ish design help!!!?
Q. Okay so I am trying to redo my room in a vintagey formal elegant kinda feel. And I am painting my walls with a tiffany blue color and lavender accents with a pearly white trim. And I was looking for some kind of cool wallpaper ideas and/or pattern ideas for my comforter. And I have this pattern in my head that is kinda like used in dining rooms and is like a vintagey formal design... it looks kinda like a chandelier but like more flowery I guess. If anyone could give me a link to a site with that kind of pattern for wallpaper or a stencil or something. I think doing some kind of stencil work would be awesome and I was wondering if anyone could give me tips on patterns to go with for a vintage formal feel... and I want the wallpaper if someone finds me one to either be a whiteish cream or a silver if that's possible... maybe even a paintable one?? Thanks so much!!! Your help is GREATLY appreciated. And if you have any cool ideas on cool things to put in my room like decor wise that is also greatly appreciated!
P.S.... if anyone has any cool stencil ideas like for me to make or from a craft store that would be great too! I was thinking of using a stencil to make a border kind of on the wall if I can't find wallpaper. Thanks so much! Sorry I need so much help! lol. :]

A. This site has really great wallpaper designs that might be suitable for your design (the link shows a pink and black Jacobean floral that I had sent to someone else so you'd want to click on their other style tabs to search for patterns in your color ranges.)

http://totalwallcovering.com/Category/Wallpaper/Damask-Wallpaper/p20938~Large-Jacobean-Damask-Wallpaper.aspx

Doing an elegant wallpapered feature wall in a bedroom (usually behind the bed headboard) can be very effective. The leftover pieces of wallpaper can be used for accents, like covering a waste basket, creating mattes for framed pictures and on a desk or dresser under a glass top.

Another good source for vintage accessories is thrift stores and antique shops. Old lamps can be refreshed with new shades and fancy mirrors and picture frames can be painted. Small carved side tables can be painted a pale color and highlighted with silver or gold accents. Vintage shops are also great sources for elegant dresser sets like fancy hand mirrors, perfume bottles and jewelry boxes.

For bedding, scout the "off price" stores like Ross, TJ Maxx, Burlington and Marshalls home goods departments. I just picked up a beautiful queen duvet and shams set in a formal floral weave in tones of pale teal blue and milk chocolate tan for less than $23 (originally priced at over $160) at my local Ross. I have also recently bought very nice faux raw silk drapes at such stores for very good prices. They can be used on windows but also on a decorative rod on a wall above a bed for a semi-canopy look.

I have seen floral stencil and wall cutout sets at Joann Fabric and Michaels Craft stores.

Can i buy a queen size head and foot board for a full size bed?

Q. I seen this bedroom set at the room place website and i cant find that anywhere else or in a full. If it can be done, please tell me how. Thank you so much in advance.

A. Yes many queen size headboard and footboards have 2 sets of slots one for a queen steel bed rails and one set for full size bed rails. You would be better served going into a mattress store like a mattress firm or giant or some other mattress store in your area. They may even have one set up you can see. If you don'f have a second set of slots they make something that will work that are often called conversion rails or plates. Tell the store what you want to do, they can get what you need.

Can I use a queen headboard and footboard with a king size bed?
Q. I have a King Size bed and was recently offered my Grandmother's Antique Mahogany Bedroom set, the problem is that it has a Queen Headbaord and Footboard. I was wondering if there is a way of making this work as no one in my family wants the furniture, and I would hate to see it leave the family.

Thanks,
Matt

A. check to see how it lines up with the mounting brackets on the bed frame

Looking to purchase a Full size bed for an adult pls Help!?
Q. I'm looking for a bedroom set but I need the bed to be a full size not queen, my bedroom is rather small and the wall where the bed will fit best is only 115" long. I want a bed and two night stands one on each side. So a queen is out of the question.
So far most places I've looked do not offer their bed set on a full. Only child beds come in full size. I know that there has to be a shop willing to order a full size in an adult looking bedroom set. Anyone know of a good place to look?

A. Here are some adult looking bedroom set with full size:

What's the best way to go about selling furniture?
Q. I'm thinking about selling my furniture before I move. I have tons of stuff: queen bedroom set, trundle bed, desk, dinning room table, kitchen table, couches, coffee tables and end tables.

A. Selling furniture is really tricky, because you will have to ask much less than the furniture is worth, and then not even get the asking price.
Sometimes it is better to donate it to a non profit, then you will get a tax write off that might be even more than the cash you would get from selling it.
If you do want to sell it, give yourself plenty of time......it is hard to sell things in a rush.
I would suggest using Craigslist.org

Be sure to take pictures of all the things you are selling, then put them on a photo sharing site, then include a link to it in your craigslist add. Also include a couple of photos in the ad itself.

Next, be prepared to have your time wasted by non serious inquiries, people who stand you up (say they will come to buy the furniture, then don't), people who want to haggle you down to an unrealistically low price, and worst, people who have unrealistic expectations, like for you to ship it to their house.

Be very clear in your expectations: cash only, pick up only.

Also, don't be afraid to throw in a freebie or two.... for example, if someone buys your couch, throw in an end table or a lamp.

Selling furniture is hard, time consuming, and you might not sell all of it.

So keep your expectations realistic, give yourself plenty of time, and don't let yourself get screwed.

I'm starting to look into fostering and need to know what the fire inspection looks for?

Q. I have to get a fire inspection done on my house (in houston) and before I pay to get it done I want to make sure I've pretty much got everything in place and up to standards. Do you know where I would be able to get like a checklist for everything I'd need in the house or needed done to my house?

Like how many smoke detectors does my house require? and things like that.

A. Is a working smoke detector installed in the hallway near the sleeping rooms
If the house is more than one story is a working smoke detector installed at the top of the stairs
Does each sleeping room and living area have at least one of the following secondary means of escape other than the front or back door of the home?
A) A door, stairway, passage or hall providing unobstructed travel leading directly to the outside of the dwelling; or
B) An outside window with a minimum opening of not less than 5.7 sq. ft. in area, minimum of 20 inches wide, and at least 24 inches high, and no higher than 44 inches above the floor, located within 20 ft. of grade accessible to fire department apparatus; or
C) A non-locking door into an adjoining room that has a means of escape described in A or B above.
Can a person travel from any room of the house to an exit that leads directly outside without having to pass through an interior door than can be locked
Can all primary exterior exit doors, windows used as a secondary means of escape, and any security bars incorporated with these primary and secondary means of escape, be opened from the inside without the use of a key, tool or special knowledge (security code, combination)?
8.Are the closet doors equipped so that a child can open the door from the inside?
If the bathroom door is equipped with a lock, can the door be unlocked from the outside during an emergency?
Can all bedrooms and/or living areas above the first floor be accessed by a standard set of stairs?
Are all gas, wood, or fuel-fired heaters used in the home vented to the outside?
Are heaters, including wood burning or gas log fireplaces, equipped with immovable screens or barriers to prevent contact with open flames or hot surfaces?
Are gas appliances (heaters, water heaters, stoves) equipped with metal tubing and metal connectors?
Are all gas-fired heaters inspected annually by a qualified technician?
Are combustible items (things that burn) stored away from any stove, heater, or fireplace in the Foster Home?
Are all lighters and matches kept out of the reach of children?

Are flammable liquids stored in safety cans and kept away from heat and children?
******Is there an operable five-pound dry chemical fire extinguisher available for use in the kitchen?
Has a Home Fire Escape Plan been written, practiced, and documented?

Does the electrical system appear to be in good condition?

Does anyone know if there is assistance available for family whos house burned down partially?
Q. This family lives next door to me and they are wonderful caring people. Anytime someone else is in need they are the first ones to help. Yesterday all of the bedrooms in their house were destroyed by fire, water and smoke damage. They have called the Red Cross but there is only so much that they can do. The family has two small children and they are in need of clothing and the family really needs some help getting the house fixed. We live in Houston Texas...If anyone has any ideas please let me know. Thanks

A. Try to raise awareness in the community. It sounds like these are great people so it shouldnt take much to get some people to contribute a little here and there. You would be surprised how generous people can be. Just start calling around or try to set up a fundraiser so the family can have some of the basics they need right now. I take my hat off to you for trying to do something, hopefully others will follow. Good luck.

Anyone know where I can get an affordable 2 bedroom apartment in Houston?
Q. Alright here's the deal
I'm a college student at the University of Houston - Downtown campus.
My roommate is going to be working at a place off Gray St.
We're looking for a 2 bedroom apartment near the area (not too far but inside the loop)
Is there anyone out there who can give me a heads up on where to look?
Or if you have experience with an apartment complex near the area?
Thanks!!!

A. More info needed.

Hopefully your room mate earns a nice paycheck and you come from a rich family, if you want an inner loop place that doesn't have dirt floors and junkies at your door for less than $1500 per month for a one bedroom, because location is everything.

Camden Heights
404 Oxford Street, Houston, TX 77007
(281) 733-2683

This place is about 1/2 mile north of West Gray, nestled in The Heights. Recent construction in a very desirable area very close to downtown and accessible to Metro. The cheapest 2/2 will set you back $1725/mo.

Good luck.

dehumidifiers in homes. Do they work?
Q. I live in Houston and was debating on getting a dehumidifier for our bedroom. Even though the ac is set low its still humid in the house and feels yucky. Think our insulation sucks. Just wondering if the dehumidifier would help make it feel more comfortable

A. Dehumidifiers definitely remove the moisture from rooms. We have one going all summer long in our downstairs to remove the moisture. They do collect water, so need to be dumped when full. This may be everyday depending on how humid your room is. I water the plants with the water my dehumidifier collects. You could certainly try it. If you feel sticky, you will probably be amazed how much water this removes from your room.

Websites for bedroom furniture?

Q. I want new bedroom furniture. I like dark colors, modern, simple, teenager style, and comfortable. Do you know any websites where they might sell furniture like this. It doesn't have to be everything I listed, but pretty close. I'd also like it if the website had a desk that matches the bedroom set. Nothing too pricey (under $2,500) and pretty good quality. Thank You!

Also, if you know a website where I can find accessories (lamps, sheets, ect.), then pleas list! Thanks again.

A. There are lots of websites with lots of product. The problem is the price doesn't always match the quality. If you plan on only keeping your furniture for 1 to 5 years and treat your furniture with kid gloves Ikea may be a good choice, however, ask anyone that has had Ikea furniture for a while or attempted to move it. It tends to auto destruct upon moving. Those cam lock type assembly hardware just don't like to be moved. What makes it fairly inexpensive is what makes it poor quality. The whole thing is about freight and warehouse space. This should NOT YOUR PROBLEM. In my humble opinion, virtually all assemble yourself furniture is inferior quality mostly made of particleboard filled with formaldehyde. My family and I have been in the furniture business both manufacturing and retailing for over 60 years. Our retail store went on line almost 20 years ago. I understand both manufacturing and retailing. I sell what I make every day of the week in my store. Consider checking out a local store with less than 5 to 10 stores. in my experience the larger the chain, the poorer the quality and service. Also, in this difficult housing market, many both large and small stores are struggling and over 20,000 retail furniture stores both large and small have gone out of in business in the last 18 months. PAY BY CREDIT CARD for a little protection. I have noticed fairly good quality furniture in Costco. In the STORE not on line. It is very seasonal for them and the selection is very limited but well priced and good quality. Also please check out our website and blog @ www.barnfurniture.com

Where can i find a full over futon bunk bed for under 500 dollars?
Q. My parents are considering letting me get a bedroom set and this is what i would like but i cant find one anywhere, please help. I have looked endlessly but i cannot find one anywhere.

A. I just got one from Shop Ko a few months ago and I absolutely love it! (However after just looking at their website I cannot seem to find the one that I purchased...) Good choice though! I hope this is what you meant!

I have a old Ethan Allen (Girl)Bedroom Set and would like to sell it. How do i know how much it's worth?
Q. The Original Owner painted the Set twice. The Head and Footboard have damage on the wicker. I wanted to strip the paint but do not want to hurt the Furniture.
Fullsize Bed,Chiffon Robe,Desk (Marble Top) and matching Mirror.

A. Very good brand name Ad say the bed is worth 500.the armoire is maybe 1000 night table are worth maybe 300 and the mirror 200 hope that help you good luck.

Hey much should sell my bedroom set for?
Q. I had it for little under 4 years, I bought it for around 2,500.
Bed- Headboard, Footboard, mattress
Dresser- Has 4 drows, very deep.
Nightstand- Two drows

All of these is very classy and is white. I don't know what type of wood but it is very strong.

Anyway, I'm trying to sell this and get enough money from it to by another bedset.

What is a reasonaly price for all of this?

A. Typically, I don't think bedroom furniture has a high resale value...that is to say, it doesn't sell "used" for nearly as much as you purchased it. I sold my white painted wood bedroom set (bed, desk, bedside, dresser) for $500 or so, but I was trying to get rid of it fast. Go on craigslist and see what others are going for. Always set the price high and let people negotiate down from there. Good Luck!

Why is it better for kids to read books than watch tv?

Q. I mean what do books do to kids that tv doesnt?

A. Have you ever read a book and then watched the movie? Chances are you found the movie lacking because it could not express all the nuances and inner thoughts and backgrounds of the characters.

Roald Dahl author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory says it best:

The most important thing we've learned,
So far as children are concerned,
Is never, never, NEVER let
Them near your television set
Or better still, just don't install
The idiotic thing at all.

In almost every house we've been,
We've watched them gaping at the screen.
They loll and slop and lounge about,
And stare until their eyes pop out.
(Last week in someone's place we saw
A dozen eyeballs on the floor.)

They sit and stare and stare and sit
Until they're hypnotised by it,
Until they're absolutely drunk
With all that shocking ghastly junk.

Oh yes, we know it keeps them still,
They don't climb out the window sill,
They never fight or kick or punch,
They leave you free to cook the lunch

And wash the dishes in the sink
But did you ever stop to think,
To wonder just exactly what
This does to your beloved tot?

It rots the senses in the head!
It kills imagination dead!
It clogs and clutters up the mind!
It makes a child so dull and blind

He can no longer understand
A fantasy, a fairyland!
His brain becomes as soft as cheese!
His powers of thinking rust and freeze!
He CANNOT think he only SEES!

'All right!' you'll cry. 'All right!' you'll say,
'But if we take the set away,
What shall we do to entertain
Our darling children? Please explain!'

We'll answer this by asking you,
'What used the darling ones to do?
How used they keep themselves contended
Before this monster was invented?'
Have you forgotten? Don't you know?
We'll say it very loud and slow:

They...used...to...read! They'd read and read,
And read and read, and then proceed
To read some more. Great Scott! Gadzooks!
One half their lives was reading books!

The nursery shelves held books galore!
Books cluttered up the nursery floor!
And in the bedroom, by the bed,
More books were waiting to be read!

Such wondrous, fine, fantastic tales
Of dragons, gypsies, queens, and whales
And treasure isles, and distant shores
Where smugglers rowed with muffled oars,

And pirates wearing purple pants,

Oh, books, what books they used to know,
Those children living long ago!

So please, oh please, we beg, we pray,
Go throw your TV set away,
And in its place you can install
A lovely bookshelf on the wall.

Then fill the shelves with lots of books,
Ignoring all the dirty looks,
The screams and yells, the bites and kicks,
And children hitting you with sticks

Fear not, because we promise you
That, in about a week or two
Of having nothing else to do,
Theyll now begin to feel the need
Of having something good to read.

And once they start oh boy, oh boy!
You watch the slowly growing joy
That fills their hearts. Theyll grow so keen
Theyll wonder what theyd ever seen

In that ridiculous machine,
That nauseating, foul, unclean,
Repulsive television screen!
And later, each and every kid
Will love you more for what you did.

I was going to do a nice write about the two, being an avid reader myself, but Mr. Dahl does it so much better. And he rhymes too! Most tv is drivel children can do very well without. If one controls the media he controls the mind of the nation. And they love to start hooking children YOUNG to commercialism! TV is fine but it is best in smaller amounts. And it can be a wonderful tool educationally and morally if and when you sit down and discuss what they watch with them. Uncontrolled access to tv creates brain dead robots with no imagination.

BEST OF ALL... NO ADVERTISING TO GIVE THEM DESIRE FOR THINGS THEY DO NOT "HAVE TO HAVE"!!!

How do I fix a new apartment from scratch?
Q. I'm going through a divorce and have to start over again.
I really don't know where to start , with cash being tight right now.
any help would be most appreciated.
Thank You one and All.

A. Im sorry for what youre going through, that must be really difficult. however, there is a bright side! youll be out of your crappy relationship soon and on your feet in no time...

as for your question...

I had next to noooo money when I moved into my new apartment. Craigslist and IKEA were seriously lifesavers. I got a set of REALLY NICE couches on craigslist, the woman I got them from was looking to have her floors redone and just wnated them out of her house by the next morning...perfectly nice, modern looking couch and loveseat for FREE. I also got my matress set from craigslist, from some kid who was moving, spur of the moment out to cali (I live in boston) and needed to sell his almost new jordans furniture queen sized mattress and boxsprings...I got them under a year old, valued at 1200 for only 200 bucks. If you look, and you must look, and be vigilent you can seriously find the most amazing deals on craigslist. I have a beautiful apartment, all of my friends comment on how gorgeous it is when they come over for the first time, and seriously to furnish two bedrooms, living room, kitchen total I must've spend less then $1500 bucks. which, when you think of it, is a steal. and Im including the prices of flatwear, kitchen wear etc. that I got all from IKEA so inexpensively. Good luck, it can be done! You just have to be creative

How can we encourage our children to learn to enjoy reading?
Q. As a college teacher, sadly, I see many high school graduates pass my way who have great difficulty reading any book, text or otherwise. They often show a great distain for reading. This includes material presented on-line.

I have seen how the love for reading developed early in childhood carries over to make a person an effective reader of material necessary to function and perform adequately in our modern society. I also know that it takes time and practice to become an effective reader, thus, the time and conditions necessary to integrate readership into ones life involve more than just the time spent and text material supplied in school.

As parents, what techniques have you used at home to encourage and continue to encourage your children to develop a love for reading?

A. Others have said it already, but I'm going to repeat it. Parents should start reading to their children practically from the day they are born. Also, keep the kids away from the television, at least until they are old enough to read and know that books are SO much better.
As Willy Wonka's Oompa-Loompas sang,
"The most important thing we've learned,
So far as children are concerned,
Is never, NEVER, NEVER let
Them near your television set
Or better still, just don't install
The idiotic thing at all.
In almost every house we've been,
We've watched them gaping at the screen.
They loll and slop and lounge about,
And stare until their eyes pop out.
(Last week in someone's place we saw
A dozen eyeballs on the floor.)
They sit and stare and stare and sit
Until they're hypnotised by it,
Until they're absolutely drunk
With all the shocking ghastly junk.
Oh yes, we know it keeps them still,
They don't climb out the window sill,
They never fight or kick or punch,
They leave you free to cook the lunch
And wash the dishes in the sink
But did you ever stop to think,
To wonder just exactly what
This does to your beloved tot?
IT ROTS THE SENSES IN THE HEAD!
IT KILLS IMAGINATION DEAD!
IT CLOGS AND CLUTTERS UP THE MIND!
IT MAKES A CHILD SO DULL AND BLIND
HE CAN NO LONGER UNDERSTAND
A FANTASY, A FAIRYLAND!
HIS BRAIN BECOMES AS SOFT AS CHEESE!
HIS POWERS OF THINKING RUST AND FREEZE!
HE CANNOT THINKHE ONLY SEES!
'All right!' you'll cry. 'All right!' you'll say,
'But if we take the set away,
What shall we do to entertain
Our darling children? Please explain!'
We'll answer this by asking you,
'What used the darling ones to do?
'How used they keep themselves contented
Before this monster was invented?'
Have you forgotten? Don't you know?
We'll say it very loud and slow:
THEY...USED...TO...READ! They'd READ and READ,
AND READ and READ, and then proceed
To READ some more. Great Scott! Gadzooks!
One half their lives was reading books!
The nursery shelves held books galore!
Books cluttered up the nursery floor!
And in the bedroom, by the bed,
More books were waiting to be read!
Such wondrous, fine, fantastic takes
Of dragons, gypsies, queens, and whales
And treasure isles, and distant shores
Where smugglers rowed with muffled oars,
And pirates wearing purple pants,
And sailing ships and elephants,
And cannibals crouching 'round the pot,
Stirring away at something hot.
(It smells so good, what can it be?
Good gracious, it's Penelope.)

We very much regret that we
Shall simply have to wait and see
If we can get him back his height.

Just bought a new house & we need a TON of furniture...?
Q. Please give me your thoughts on...
Jordans
Bernie & Phylls
Cardi's
Bob's Discount Furniture
Any other good ones? We live in South Shore, MA

THANK YOU!!

A. I'm not familiar with your part of the country, so the best I can do is advise that you check out the thrift stores, used furniture stores and resale/consignment shops in your area. A lot of times, you can find whole sets/suites (dining room, bedroom) in good condition for very reasonable prices. Often times, you can also find matched sets of lamps as well. Make sure that you bring a light bulb with you to test lamps.

Should you decide to go this route, one thing I will advise that you do is to purchase your mattress sets new and consider protecting your investments with the bed bug protection mattress covers - one each mattress and box spring. While they can be a bit on the pricey side for the bigger sized beds (queen, king), it is well worth the expense to prevent an infestation where you lose all of your upholstered furniture, beds and carpeting and have to start over again from scratch (no pun intended).

Prices for furniture nature in Saudi?
Q. We want new furniture for our house. It doesn't have to be the best things that money can buy but we do want good quality durable stuff. How much do you think it would cost for the following:

1) a formal living room set with couches, tables, curtains and a few decor pieces

2) a casual living room set with couches, tables, curtains, and a few decor pieces(not including tv)

3) a bedroom set including a king sized bed, 2 end tables, 2 dressers and a large closet

4) a small kitchen set just the cabinets and counter tops(no appliances)

I have been told about 10000SR for each room but wanted to get some other opinions.

My husband is a crossdresser and I find it perverse inspite of trying to accept it?

Q. I found out about his cross dressing by chance. Inspite of reading up on it and doing a lot of online research, I am unable to come to terms with it.
I have not confronted him about it but I have hinted it couple of times. He knows that I know but is keeping mum.
I can't get this thing outta my head. I am very disturbed.
Can other wives in a similar situation tell me what they did?

A. To begin with: Just so you know who is talking, I am a crossdresser.

Your husband is probably very much in a keep it secret stage. Thus he is very reluctant to share with you let alone anyone else. You on the other hand need to have some questions answered. And you may not even be sure of what the questions are. This is where I hope I can help. Usually the questions are not so related to him but more as to how it affects you.

Question 1. Is he gay?
Answer: Most likely he is not. In fact 90 percent of crossdressers are just like your husband: married, straight men who just have a need to express a feminine side. Of course in today's society we often equate the crossdressing to equal homosexuality because of what we have been exposed to by media in the way of drag queens and those who are extremely campy. Crossdressing is a gender issue. Its a degree of how masculine vs feminine we feel. But it has very little to do with sexual preference.

Question 2. If you accept it are you gay? After all your husband enjoys dressing as a girl, so when you are with him, is it not like being with a girl?
Answer: No. As I have said to people when i am asked as similar question, what I wear is what i feel comfortable. But inside my panties... I am all man. I want to have heterosexual sex. and I only have interest in women... In your husband's case.. one woman: YOU. He is still a man, and he still has a penis and he wants to have sex with you in the usual way. He is no matter what he wears, still a man. You are not a lesbian.

Question 3. What will everyone else think? My friends, my family?
Answer: This is a subjective one. Some people will be horrified (mostly because they do not know enough about it, and only assume the worse). The majority of people you know, just won't care. and won't even think about it. Then there will be the few who are curious and interested and will want to know more. But before all that begs the question... how will these people find out? He certainly is not going to tell anyone... he can't even talk about it to you. You don't need to tell anyone? Its not like you go and tell your mother about everything you do in the bedroom? (I hope :) ). But for those that do find out, in general they won't say anything about it unless you are complaining about it. If you are supportive, and show that you and your husband are of one mind about this, they should just leave you alone.

Question 4. Why do you feel it is "perverse"?
Answer: Because it is hidden and is being kept hidden. When things are hidden like they are, you are going to feel like its something wrong and it needs to be hidden. your solution is to talk about it with your husband. You have to get it out in the open. Find out why he feels the need to crossdress and what it is that started him down this path. You both need more understanding and a LOT more communication. You might even be feeling a bit betrayed because he has been hiding this from you. And now you might be wondering what else he has been hiding from you. I'm pretty certain that this is it. it's a big deal especially to him. He is afraid that you will ridicule him and expose him. You have to remember that you are a partnership and that his secrets are yours and yours are his.

After all, here is a guy that you are already partners with, who would probably enjoy talking fashion with you, help paint each others nails, etc. Here is a guy that can appreciate what it means for a woman to get ready and pretty for her man. And between you both your intimate time can be augmented if you both accept the sensuousness that he will have as part of his feminine side. (Think of how soft and sensitive your skin is when its freshly shaved and lotioned.) Don't be afraid to set limitations too. For example: I don't ever dress when there are familiar children about.

And as an extra bonus, if he is wearing panties under his jeans all the time... just how likely is he going to want to take his pants off for any other woman. He will be a much more faithful husband this way. ;-)

Just so you know. I now have a girlfriend. She knows about my dressing and is an active participant. We do not hide it from each other or for that matter, anyone else. My family knows as does hers. There are no problems and we live happily and enjoy my feminine side as well as my masculine side.

And finally, may I suggest that you get and read a book called "My Husband Betty" by Helen Boyd.
Its an excellent book that describes a lot of what you are going through and how she dealt with it.

Hope this all helps.

Ideas for bedroom redecorating?
Q. I'm going to be redoing my bedroom soon, and I need some ideas. I'm a 13 year old girl, so hope that helps some!
I'm going to be redoing my bedroom soon, and I need some ideas. I'm a 13 year old girl, i love blue and brown and i LOVE music. so hope that helps some!

A. Start by choosing bedding that you like. Take a color from it or chose a coordinating color for the walls. If the bedding has a theme (like tropical) decorate with those types of accessories.I could do a better search if I knew what size bed you have. For instance if your bed is full or queen there are probably more options than if we are looking for just twin. Here are some sites where you can browse for bedding...
