What are some good places to buy furniture from in Georgia?

Q. Hello, I am looking to buy some new furniture, I am in the atlanta area and I would like to know a place that sells nice furniture without the super high prices. I'm shopping for a bedroom set and couch and love seat. Thanx!!

A. About 23,200,000 results when I Google "Furniture Georgia" You can do the same on Yahoo or Bing etc. More importantly when you find a company you plan to do business with check them out with independent third party sources like the BBB or check out reviews on things like Yelp, Google, or Yahoo Maps.

Can Aaron's furniture have you arrested if you change your mind?
Q. I recently went to aarons for a bedroom set and tv which came up to $2600. I made my first payment of $130. I am not in posession of the furniture yet they didn't deliver it yet because of problems with my lease. Would I be able to get my money back? Tommorow will be the 2nd business day that I have been dealing wIth them. Any ideas?
By the way they have terrible reviews all over the Internet.

A. First and foremost, read the terms of the purchase that should have been given to you when you made the purchase. You should have had to sign a contract since you were paying by installment.

Usually, there is language there explaining your rights to cancel within a certain period of time. Find that section if it is there and talk to them when you do and canceling would be easy. You may have to pay a "restocking fee" or some other wording of the sort, but you'd probably get most of your money back.

If there is no cancellation time on your contract, you wouldn't be able to get your money back. You could just stop paying, and they would then have the option of suing you for the rest of the money (which they wouldn't since you hadn't taken possession of the furniture).

Are there organisations that can come and look at your home and energy consumption and make recommendations?
Q. We are nearing pension age and have a large four bedroom house, which we wish to keep because we frequently look after our grandchildren. We realise that energy is a major expense and would like expert help to reduce our bills while we are still earning enough to make changes.

A. As a society we have become very compartmentalized. Your electric or gas provider may have a program where they will come over and see if there is way to conserve power by weatherizing or insulating the home. This is almost always the best return on an energy investment.

But they are not about to evaluate or recommend something that would supplant their utility like solar hot water or solar PC panels. You will not likely find someone to evaluate if an electric car would be a net savings for your situation. While some may recommend more insulation if does not meet the local standard few know how to calculate how much additional insulation is cost effective based upon your financial situation and the nature of your home.

Would solar air panels or even a solar room reduce heating needs? Which would fit your lifestyle? What about remove able window shades or insulating panels? Is there an advantage in your situation to geothermal heating or changing to air source heat pumps? Perhaps some form of thermal mass would not only provide an energy savings but additional comfort as well.

Just how much savings do you want to create and what is your budget? You can ask for various renewable energy contractors to give you estimates but this is not going to help you in deciding what if anything is cost effective. The kind of evaluation you seem to be asking after is going to be hard to find because most people don't want to know and few have any idea how to compare what seems to be apples and oranges in the energy world. They follow what the neighbors are doing rather then making an evaluation for themselves or paying someone with a general knowledge to review their home and their situation.

In my area this kind of evaluation requires a site visit and is no less intensive than any other type of home inspection but instead of looking for just a single issue it is an evaluation of a home owned by real people in a particular setting. The final goal can be a little tune up or working to make the house energy independent.
