Is it possible to paint my bedroom furniture?

I bought this set from Ikea in the medium brown finish..
http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?topcategoryId=15558&catalogId=10103&storeId=12&productId=60994&langId=-1&categoryId=16173&chosenPartNumber=S39839352
--After I bought the set I painted my room hot pink and now the furniture is completeley lost and doesn't stand out at all. So I'm thinking that I should either paint the furniture white so that it will definteley pop or I should just repaint my room to more of a airy brezzy spa blue. Your answers are very serious to me so please help it you can. Thanks in advance.

Answer
I love the furniture. Yes, you can paint it, all you have to do is prime the backboard and foot board (with Kilz or Benz) and then paint it white, but don't. The finish is really beautiful, and timeless. You can tire of the paint color on the walls, but what a simple solution. Paint the walls another color. Spa colors are so chic right now (timeless, too) , especially with a calm, neutral blue, and you have the right idea already. Spa blue is so restful, peaceful, and beautiful with your bed. A beautiful blue throw at the end of the bed and throw pillows would set the room theme. Paint the walls spa blue:) A good place to start for this palette is Benjamin Moore. Log on to the link below (Pottery Barn and Benjamin Moore have coupled up with paint colors). Hope you find something you love:)

Looking for nice, good quality bedroom furniture for my kids. Any suggestions?

Gigi

They are 4 & 2 and share a room. I am not down with Ikea or putting things together myself. Love Pottery Barn furniture, but looking for a place with a little more of a selection to get more of an idea of what it is I want exactly. Any suggestions would be great.

Is it true that Kurt Cobain wanted fat chicks in the SLTS video?

sk8rgirl13

My guitar teacher told me that he wanted fat girls as the cheerleaders, and when he didn't get any they destroyed the set for real. Is this true and if yes, why did he want fat girls? Could you tell me any other things like this, I find it really interesting.

Im not trying to be mean about the fat girls, its just what I was told!

Answer
The girls who played the cheerleaders in the video were originally supposed to be very fat and unattractive (Cobain's idea). The Director did not like this idea, but still allowed the cheerleaders to have "sleeve" tattoos and the symbol for anarchy on their shirts.

The line "Here we are now, entertain us" was something Cobain used to say when he entered a party.
Kathleen Hanna, the lead singer of the group Bikini Kill, gave Cobain the idea for the title when she spray painted "Kurt Smells Like Teen Spirit" on his bedroom wall after a night of drinking and spraying graffiti around the Seattle area. In his pre-Courtney Love days, Cobain went out with Bikini Kill lead singer Tobi Vail, but she dumped him. Vail wore Teen Spirit deodorant, and Hanna was implying that Cobain was marked with her scent.

Here is his suicide note:

Where can i find a sort of cheap sofa that is kind of chic-ish looking?

kima

My budget is kind of around $200 so if i could find one around that price.
It would be great
I live kind of around seattle in a place called tukwila. i would like to stay in-state for the shopping.

Answer
Not sure if you have one but IKEA is great for that. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00098389

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S69826273
This one is a little more $249- But its my favorite. Also they come with different colors.

I <3 IKEA. My whole apartment is done in IKEA and I spent $1000 total to get a bedroom set, living room set, and kitchen stuff. Very inexpensive and nice. But you put things together yourself so I guess thats the downfall. I don't mind though. I think with the sofas you just twist on the legs anyways.

there's a slight nook for my bedroom furniture set (vanity/headboard/bed), am considering finding a floor flutter screen for some privacy/separation. Already have a huge 3-seater futon, but need to purchase all other furniture. Any space-saving suggestions or pieces I should look for that could function for everyday and entertaining (i don't do huge gatherings, but usually several friends). hope this makes sense, and any suggestions would be appreciated!

Answer
a folding table big enough to entertain but small enough to be out of the way when folded away.

a "cupboard" for your tv/music with doors that can shut it away when you want to hide it!

Under bed drawers for extra hidden storage.

Go for light colours to create a more spacious feel.

How do I find out how much a bedroom set and dining room set (both 50+ years old) are worth to sell?

bedroom set cherry

dennismd20

Both sets are made of wood, dark cherry finish. Bedroom set has 7 pcs. (headboard, footboard, vanity, bench, dresser, mirror, and chest). Dining room set has table w/leaf, 6 chairs, china cabinet, and chest. Antiques? Where to sell?

Answer
Go to the library and ask the information desk about finding a book to help you price the pieces. I did and found out I had a table worth $11,000. I was shocked.(no I didn't sell it). You can also look under the furniture and try and find the manufacturer and then do a computer search. Once you find a price you can go to Craigslist or put it in an antique store on consignment. Or just put an ad in your local paper or Penny Saver.

What color should I paint my bedroom wall?

woohoo

I have a light cherry bedroom set. The comforter has a garnet base with golds and darker reds. I have wood floors. And my wall decor is mostly reds and golds as well. Right now I have a marigold yellow color but I'm starting to realize that was the wrong choice! What would better suit this room and make it more calmer?

Answer
play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to help you imagine how the colors will look together. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:
http://www.sherwin.com/visualizer/

I think "threshold taupe" (# 7501) might be a good choice.

You can take a photo of your house & upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:
http://www.roomvues.com/
You can get color suggestions & for $5 they'll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like.

How expensive is it to live in LA?

bedroom set under 800

camille

I'm going to college next year, most likely in LA at FIDM. But i'm just so scared because I know its expensive out there and i'm coming all the way from Indiana. I don't know anybody out there either. It all just sounds so far fetched and impossible, but if i want to make it in the field its basically either LA or NYC. So, whats the cheapest part of LA that's not terribly dangerous? Could I get an apartment for less that $1000 or is that just like impossible?

Answer
Live in the FIDM housing at first, preferably right near the campus (rather than Park LaBrea, unless you don't mind the commute and like the area), then see if you meet anyone to roommate with, or find a studio apartment to live by yourself. The FIDM apartments are actually good deals for an LA furnished apartment with utilities included, and while downtown LA isn't the best place to live, the FIDM apartments are nice, and very convenient to FIDM. Look on the FIDM website for info.

It is also very convenient to have an apartment all ready for you, setting up an apartment is a lot if work, first, you'd have to find a landlord willing to rent to someone under 21, with no credit or rental history, no substantial job, and parents across the country. Then you'd have to buy furniture, furnished apartments rent for quite a bit more, even close to double unfurnished, and they're hard to find in low end buildings, set up utilities and deposits, buy household goods (pots, pans, towels, etc). It's a lot of work.

The cost for FIDM apartments is $300 a week ($3000 for the 10 week Quarter) for a shared bedroom, $600 for a private bedroom. This will give you time to figure out the best area to live should you decide to move. Low crime areas are a bit far from FIDM, if you don't have a car, it might be a hassle, since you will likely be working on group projects late night at FIDM, and it's not a good idea to take public transportation late at night.

You can find a studio in LA starting at $800 (more on the Westside), but you might not like it or the area, you might have to spend $1000 for a studio you're ok with, or find a roommate and a 2 bedroom, which likely won't save much on rent. Lower crime areas relatively close to FIDM include Glendale and South Pasadena, but the commute takes 20 minutes, or longer in traffic.

Good luck!

My husband told me we may be PCSing to Germany. He put in his reenlistment for Germany. What CAN'T I bring?

Melissa

We have a full house of things. Patio Table, Washer/Dryer, Dining table, Kitchen Table, Living room set, Entertainment center, Two Vehicles. Three bedroom sets. You know normal stuff. Not to mention BBQ pit lawnmower, water hoses, plants in pottery. I need to know what I will not be able to take so I can sell or put in storage.

Answer
Electrical equipment: voltage in the US is 110 Volt, in Germany is 220 Volt. You have to check if your equipment works with 220 V (Personal Computer do). Read the descriptions or check the backside of there is usually a label which e.g. says: 110 - 220 V. If not: put it in storage.

Germans usually live in appartments which are smaller then in the US: typical is 800 - 1200 square feet. If you rent a house the gardens are significantly smaller ( 800 - 1500 sf) then in the US, so you probably do not need the stuff for the gardens: mower, tools, Patio table, water hoses a.s.o.

Plants: everything "living" like plants, vegetables a.s.o. would have to go into quarantine, same as when coming to the US (risk of importing deseases).

Bedrooms: german appartments are calculated in "rooms", typically is: one living room, one bedroom, one bedroom for kids (or home office) = would be a 3 room, one bathroom (for all), a kitchen. (Bath and kitchen are not calculated as rooms). Typical is a 3 or 4 room appartment. Houses usually have additional rooms, a cellar or a space under the roof as storage rooms. Utilities are in the cellar or integrated into the kitchen (e.g. dishwasher, washer, dryer are very uncommon, they are integrated into the washer). Some app. come with kitchen and utilities included, some come "naked".

I would limit my stuff to the things you need to live: cloth, furniture, electrical stuff (if running on 220 V). If necesarry you can buy additional things in Germany, IKEA is very popular but there are other furniture stores, prices are similar to the US.

You also have to consider that the transport by container needs aound 4 weeks from the US to Germany (house to house) and you will need a "starter kit" in Germany.

I have a Eastern King soft sided waterbed. I have the 9 leg metal frame. I am looking to purchase a new bedroom set from Rooms 2 Go or some place like that. Can I purchase a bed with the wooden rails to attach to the metal frame. I know that the weight of the bed will not allow me to use the wooden rails from the new bed.

Answer
You can make the rails work.... you just need to make sure you have center support legs on the rails.... most good wood bed will come with slats and 1-3 center support legs.... You just need to add more so that you have about 9 center support legs....you can use wood or even bricks....

do you have a hard time letting go of old furniture?

Lala

i have a king size canopy bed (dark wood frame), with lighting and mirrors at the "ceiling" part of the canopy, its a beautiful bed but i've had that bed for over 12 years. it now has war marks, needs one or two very minor repairs, possibly repainted/polished, and it has to be assembled by furniture people otherwise it can be a disaster if not assembled properly.

I have alot of years and memories in that bed, its beautiful when its put together but with all the work it'll take to get it fresh & "new" again, i could get a brand new bedroom set. i dont want to sell it. a part of me wants a brand new bedroom set but i'm so attached to this bed, its also "one of a kind" you dont find beds like this much anymore.

do any of you have a hard time letting go of stuff you've had for so many years? how do you get rid of that feeling?
i guess i just want a new start . . . . and to let go of the old, bring in the new . . . .

anyone ever felt that way?

Answer
NOTHING SAYS STUFF HAS TO BE NEW!

If you love it, keep it. Don't feel bad about it, either. I really think it's all the advertising we're constantly seeing that makes us feel like we "have" to have new stuff.

Where are some good places to buy female furniture for the bedroom?

I know the question may seem weird but I am a female and I want something artsy and youthful that looks right for a chic woman. I dont want to search online for "girl" furniture because I know I'll just get furniture for children. I went to ikea and saw a bedroom set that was okay but more of the young college student. Walmart and Target, I'm afraid will be under quality and a lot of the other stores I checked out online seem to be old looking. I am very picky but I was wondering if anyone knew a place, maybe they know a female between 20-27 and where they got their bedroom furniture. I would even take crazy styles. Im tired of seeing the usual bedroom sets. If you know other places for furniture for other parts of the home thats fine too. Those are easier to find. Its the stupid bedroom that I'm stuck with.

I might be sleeping on the couch for awhile.

How much should I sell my bedroom furniture for?

Tamee

I have a black 7 piece queen size bedroom set with two night stands, a dresser and a mirror that I purchased for $1600 about 16 months ago. I also paid $600.00 for some pillow top mattresses. Everything looks brand new. Someone offered $700. How much should I sell it for? Mattresses included.

Answer
The best answer is whatever you can get for it, I think $700 isn't a good price for it, but it's most probably close to what it's worth at most.

When you buy new, you're paying for the over heads as well. If you place an add in a free online site saying what you have is new or bought 2 weeks ago, you'd be very lucky to get 70% of that $2200 you paid for it. Reason being that buying from a store you have in general an amount of consumer protection for the most part.

What most people don't understand, is that the store bought that product or those goods for a fraction of what they sold it for, to cover their over heads. My Ex used to work for a big department store, I was surprised to find out that some items have a 500% mark up, I'm not saying there was a 500% mark up on your goods, but I'm guessing at least 100% if not more.

So me and my best friend have been friends since 4th grade and now that were adults we decided that we should roomate together. we rarley argue and were super close. what should i look out for?

ps. we are califorina and i moved to okc and she is in texas and im moving out there with her so were all we got at this moment.

Answer
Here are some tips about room-mating:

Be upfront about your expectations. Set boundaries and stick with them. This applies to food, clothes, possessions, loud activities, use of common areas, parties, quiet hours, cleaning responsibilities, and so on.

Respect each other’s privacy and personal space. This is especially important if you share a small living area. Make a clear delineation between your stuff and your roommate’s stuff. That way you are only responsible for your things. You must always ask before "borrowing" anything, no matter if it's trivial. Definitely take good care of any borrowed items.

Follow through with your obligations. If you say you're going to clean the kitchen, pay your roommate back for your share of the lease or utilities, or call the landlord about a repair, then do it.

Be prepared to compromise. Not everyone has the same ideas about day to day living as you do. You can't ask your roommate to change herself if you're not willing to change as well.

Clean up after yourself. This doesn't mean that you have to be a neat freak, but don't leave your dirty dishes in the sink for days on end, dump your things in the living room, or leave mountains of laundry all over the bedroom, especially if you share it with your roommate. Try to agree on a minimum standard of cleanliness that you'll all abide by.

Be courteous of your roommate’s sleeping habits. If you are a night owl, keep your noise down and turn the lights down after your roommate goes to bed so you don't disturb her. If you go to bed early, don’t get exasperated with your roommate for her late hours, but at the same time try to find ways that you can sleep undisturbed. The same thing applies for rising in the morning.

Stay flexible. Understand what’s going on in your roommate’s life, and accommodate them. If your roommate has a big test coming up, you should probably be quiet and let them study. If your roommate is busy and stressed with their job, give them some time and space to relax and unwind. Wouldn't you like your roommate to show you the same consideration?

Communicate. As in any relationship, living with someone requires a great deal of work. Communication is key in making the relationship work well long-term, or even for a short time. If a problem comes up, it's better to talk about it right away than to try and ignore it and let it get worse.

Share. Or decide what you will share. Decide what contents in the fridge are ok and which are off limits. Determine whether or not a common phone line will be sufficient if one person spends a lot of time on the phone. If you borrow something, let your roommate know and (if necessary) try to replace it.

Divide responsibilities: If your roommate is a good cook and you are not, have her cook and you do the dishes. It may also be a good idea to set up a chores schedule, where you will take turns alternating cleaning the bathroom, taking out the trash, etc.

What do I need to know about moving to West Hollywood?

Whitney

I've settled on West Hollywood as my ideal place to live when I move to LA at the end of the summer.

Before you write in telling me how crappy LA is and be all negative, let me say this: I know LA isn't a great place to live. I know there is traffic and smog and creepy ass people and gangs (that being said I lived in Oklahoma City which has the largest gang population in the country next to LA and it wasn't that bad plus it's a complete sewer system and I can't imagine LA being anything close to OKC even with all the negative stuff I've read about it).

I'm going there to be an actress. I'm NOT going there to be famous, or to get rich and all that BS. I know it's pretty much a pipe dream and the odds of making it is rare. I have actually studied acting and film for a long time. It's my passion and I'm damn good at it and the only reason I want to move to LA is because that's where a majority of the work is. I could be happy having to work as a waitress and living in a crappy apartment if it meant I could work towards being an actor. I know about all the scams and all the stuff that happens in the industry. I'm a grown adult and god forbid, I've been able to survive on my own for a while now. I'm confident I can do it in LA.

I have a lot of money saved up, money set aside for emergency flights home, car problems, and enough to live on completely for about a year, and I will be moving with no debt. My car is paid off and my parents agreed to pay my insurance and cell phone. All I need to worry about is rent, gas, food, and utilities. I plan on finding an apartment or house with a roommate or two.

All that being said, I just want to know about West Hollywood. From what I've read it's a generally safe area and it's close to a lot of stuff, with lots of young people.

But I want to hear from people who have lived there, not just statistics from random websites and stupid negative people. Tell me about what it's like to live there. What are the great things about living there? What are the sucky things? What are the people like? How easy is it to find apartments (I've read LA is full of apartments and its not hard to find one like it would be in places like NYC). How much will car insurance run me? How much is gas up there on average? Is WeHo an ideal place to be for someone in the entertainment industry?
I don't mind people thinking I'm gay. To me that's like people thinking I'm black. It's irrelevant. Plus, I love my gays and it's actually appealing to me to be around them. And there's only 120,000 actors in SAG so as far as I'm concerned there's only 120,000 REAL actors in LA
To answer the second person's question, by the time I move I plan on having about $50,000 saved, but I will also be working. That money is just to get me going and through rough patches if I lose my job or something.
Oh! and I've been looking at a lot of roommate sites and there's lots of pretty nice places with people seeking roommates asking about $1200 all bills paid. That is ideal for me.
and to add another thing. I am from a very wealthy, expensive part of Dallas where a 1-bedroom will run you about $1000 - 1500, so nothing about the pricing of LA shocks me.

Answer
WeHo is not an ideal place for you to live. I'd recommend Studio City. It's near most of the major studios. It's right next to Hollywood, is a very nice area (lots of celebrities live here, Robert Blake shot his wife here, Britney Spears got married here), and is much more affordable for the same apartment. You can get a nice 1 bedroom for 1200 here. There are 3 supermarkets, a Trader Joe's, a farmer's market every Sunday morning, a nice mall nearby that isn't ever crowded. All the laid back people who actually work in the industry live here. Because a lot of special effects people from the studios occupy a large amount of the houses here, there are 2 areas with the best trick or treating and haunted houses in the city. So unlike WeHo, where the hipster losers who are always pimping their script or acting reel (unless that's what you want) outnumber the actual actors, you will meet actual people working in the industry here.

Since you want to be an actor you need to know the location of the major studios. CBS Studios is located in Studio City. Universal Studios is right next to Studio City. Warner Bros and Disney are nearby in Burbank. The only major studio in Hollywood is Paramount and it's in the bad part of Hollywood (yes there is a bad part). Fox is in Century City. Sony is far away in Culver City. But that's okay, because the most traveled freeway in LA, the 101, goes through Studio City.

Hope this helps you. By the way, Los Angeles probably has the most expensive gas prices in the country. The average is $3.00 a gallon here right now, while the US average is $2.54.

I'm buying a 37" HD TV but I only have basic non-HD cable. Is the picture quality going to be bad?

Answer
I just bought a 42" 1080P (full high definition) LCD television for my bedroom and I don't have a cable box hooked up to it yet. It is hooked directly up to the wall. The picture is "FUZZY!". On my HDTV in my living room I have an HD cable box supplied by the cable company hooked up to it. The premium channels such as HBO and Showtime all have one channel each where they broadcast it in standard as well as in high def. If you flip back and forth between the two the difference is highly noticeable. If you go into say "Costco" and look at their HDTV's there is a sign on every set that says "An HD picture requires an HD signal!" You will however get used to watching non-hd channels on your HDTV after time. Plus the U.S. government has made a statement that all cable must be digital by a specified date in the year 2009.

My apartment smells like fish. What do I do?

PBBandit

I bought some Cod at Costco last Thursday and cooked it in my one bedroom apartment. The smell was horrible and after 4 days it still smells! It is in all my clothing, bedding etc. I have opened windows, sprayed everything with Febreze, used air freshener, scented oils and lit candles...needless to say nothing has worked. I am embarressed to even get close to people for fear they will think I smell like fish. Any suggestions?

Answer
Vinegar as bad as it smells will take away the odor , just pour some in a bowl or two and sit it around ...\

Baking Soda its cheap and works at removing bad odors ,sprinkle it on your carpets , and open a few boxes of it a sit them around ..

You can try one of these or both .

My hubby cooks fish alot and i does make my house stink ,so when know he has cooked fish I set the baking soda out in a few places around the house , and I close the other doors .

Good luck!

For a newlywed couple, what is the best choice for a place to live- i.e. apartment, mobile home, house, etc?

Fatdude427

My Fiance and I are getting married in a few months from now. We both are still living at home with our parents- that is, she is home living with her folks, and I am still at home living with my own.

We want to make the best choice for us, in terms of financially, in terms of having privacy, and in terms of learning as best we can about one another in a safe and loving environment. We have pretty much decided that living with either sets of parents is not an option.

My wife-to-be wants to start out by purchasing a decent but inexpensive mobile home. I am fine with this idea. But is it the wisest choice? It will cost approximately as much as renting a one bedroom apartment. Probably, the payments on the mobile home itself will be around 300, and the lot rent will cost around 300 as well. Thus, the total will be around 600 per month.

Is this a good choice for us? We are both just getting good jobs now, and we are not earning a whole lot yet. Thanks for your help and ideas.

Answer
I got married the first time I was only 18. We lived with his parents until we found a mobile home that was a 2 bedroom cute as could be. We didn't have to make payments on a lot because we put it on my parents land. They have alot of land so we put it on the other side so that we had plenty of privacy. Getting a loan for a mobile home was actually a good start for us. It wasn't as big of loan that we would have to try to get out from under later if we wanted to like a house would be and yet we were still establishing a good credit history by doing this. We didn't stay together but that doesnt matter as far as that goes. It really helped us get established without having something to try to get out from under or take forever trying to sell like a house or just wasting our money by renting an apartment. When we got divorced we both had credit scores close to 900. So I would say yes the mobile home idea is a good choice. Good luck you two :)

My Ex used to work for a big department store, I was surprised to find out that some items have a 500% mark up, I'm not saying there was a 500% mark up on your goods, but I'm guessing at least 100% if not more.

i need to know also What is the best 5 stars resort or hotel in langkawi island, malaysia?

Answer
There's 1 resort i would recommend is the Four Seasons Resorts...

Two-Bedroom
Villas Set within luxuriant gardens, Two-Bedroom Villas measure at least 350 square metres (3,770 square feet). Ideal for families or private entertaining, these luxurious suites offer extra-spacious areas for living and sleeping, and their own private 25-metre (82-foot) lap pool.

Presidential Villa
The Presidential Villa is a magnificent three-bedroom residence located on a secluded end of the Resort’s beach, in close proximity to the spa pavilion. With private outdoor swimming pools, its own spa room, and spacious living and dining areas, this luxurious home makes a perfect hideaway for larger families and private gatherings.

best cheap safe country to live in?

Boo

I'm expecting my first child this fall. Can anyone recommend a nice country where I can find work and live in that's outside of the US & other than Canda? I'm looking for:

1) English speaking country-
I'm Asian & hoping for a place that isn't hostile to foreigners

2) Safe for women

3) VERY cheap apartments & childcare-
In America, a 1 bedroom averages about $600 including bills. And then there's childcare, which costs just as much. That alone is already way too much for a single mother who is completely on her own. I'm looking for a country where those expenses would be about half of that.

4.) Somewhere tourist-y
So I can find employment easily, work my butt off to save money & come back to the US one day and raise my child decently.

Some people have suggested Tunisia, Thailand, Phillipines, Malaysia. Opinions? Other reccomendations?

Answer
TUNISIA

I am an American living in Tunisia and I love Tunisia very much!

Situated on the Mediterranean Sea, it is the northernmost African country, and the smallest of the nations situated along the Atlas mountain range, bordering Algeria, to the west, and Libya to the south east.

The country is so full of history (has been under the rule of Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs, Berbers, Ottomans, Beys, and French; played a significant part in WWII, was the center of the ancient world with Carthage as the capitol, etc) and it has so many beautiful places to visit! It is unlike any other Arab country in that is has a lot of greenery. There are also many historical ruins in just about every part of the country you go to.

The mountain region is breathtaking! There are fantastic views and an the atmosphere is reminiscent of an old town in Switzerland. Absolutely gorgeous! The coast is marvelous. The Sea is clear and picturesque. The midland and south are terrific because they offer you the chance to peek into a forgotten society - one that holds fast to tradition. I have been all over Tunisia and have visited most cities and have loved everyone because they each have their own special charm.

The people are so warm and hospitable. They instantly welcome you as one of their own and treat you like family. Tunisia is also a very safe place. There are not many places in this world where a women can walk the streets alone in the middle of the night without fear. Yet I often take late night walks and have never had any problems and have never felt fearful. Tunisia on a whole is a very safe country. I have lived in Tunis and Monastir and have visited other parts of the country without any problems.

$1 is equal to 1.314 TDN
http://finance.yahoo.com/currency?u

Things are pretty reasonably priced here in Tunisia. Let me give you some examples.

A 1.5L bottle of mineral water costs .400TDN ($.30), but most people buy them is cartons of 6. Just a way to not have to go to the store all the time to buy water. A 1L bottle of coke is 1TDN ($.76), while a 1.5L bottle is 1.500TDN ($1.14).

Taxi rides are pretty cheap, but if you want to save on that you can always walk. A taxi ride is usually around 3TDN ($2.28) depending on how far you are going and what city you will be in.

Food prices will depend on what type of restaurant you want to go to. A fast food place will cost you about 3TDN ($2.28) per person if you buy a coke along with your sandwich. An actual restaurant will run you anywhere between 20-30TDN total($15.22-$22.83) for 4 people, including drinks, and many times dessert as well.

Housing is cheap too, depending on what city, where in the city, and how big a place you are looking for. Rents run anywhere between 150TDN-500TDN ($114.14-$382.73). Water and Electricity bills come every 3 months, and those depend on how much you use. I'll use ours as a reference. Our last water bill was 8 TDN ($6.13) and our last electricity bill was 35TDN ($26.81).

Child care depends on where you take them, but can run anwhere from 25-50TDN a month ($19.15-$38.30)

Tunisia is definitely geared towards tourism. I suggest you check out the Tunisia section under travel http://answers.yahoo.com/dir/index;_ylt=Ajvu_tkLcfQ.OLPZ1SISVG7sy6IX?sid=396545482

How do you decorate a bedroom to make it brighter?

bedroom furniture color ideas

bedroom furniture color ideas image

Fly girl

I have cherry wood bedroom furniture and I used burgundy/light green color scheme but I want to revamp my room when I move soon.

I'm going to keep the same bedroom furniture but is there a way to make the bedroom brighter and more cheery? Any good suggestions? I was thinking of buying new sheets/comforter in a different color? What other accessories/ideas could I use to achieve this goal?

The walls are light colored and I'm not interested in painting them.

Answer
Lots of lighting. If you can get a new lamp. and some smaller lights that would help. Also mirrors make a room look bigger and brighter. Maybe yellow, or a lighter blue for room colors or blanket colors. That's a bright color. Stay away from reds and dark colors. also cherry wood is kind of dark. you could get a floor rug for your room.

What color bedding goes with my room?

Martha

My room has a burgundy/reddish, green & beige walls. My bedroom furniture is cherry wood color, so I don't know what color bedding can go...I thought maybe like a black & white - green, (I know beige goes but thats too boring) Any ideas?
Hmm...green & white? I think I'll try it. Thanks!

How about something like this..beige and black, but lots of patterns...you have a lot of colours going on in your room, so I would suggest patterns/texture, but neutral colours.

How much does a two-bedroom apartment in Vancover?

How much would it approximately cost for a two bedroom apartment/condo in Vancouver?
I'm not looking for anything fancy, but nothing old, slum-like either and the neighborhood should be safe enough to roam freely at night and shouldn't be too far from downtown. I'm interested in Fairview or Burnaby.

What would be the price range for an apartment like that? (to rent and to buy respectively)

Answer
Renting a 2-bedroom apartment in Burnaby will set you back at least $1100 per month. The rents in Vancouver go up from there.
Condos would cost you around $300,000 as a minimum in Burnaby. In Vancouver the prices will be over $400,000.

What are the cheapest and most affordable Canadian university an international student can apply to?

hass_mat

I am a Lebanese student willing to study in Canada. What is the cheapest university that I can apply to?

Answer
In addition to the above answers, I will directly suggest a university for you to look into.

Winnipeg has 2 universities:

-The University of Winnipeg (Primarily Undergrad)
-The University of Manitoba (Offers a wide variety of graduate and professional programs (i.e. Medicine) in addition to Undergrad programs, those undergrad programs including Nursing, Social Work, and Engineering).

The University of Winnipeg is always rated as one of the top primarily undergraduate schools in Canada.

Winnipeg has the best of both worlds. Tuition is affordable and reasonable, although not the lowest in the country, AND so is the cost of living. Together, this makes Winnipeg a viable otion.

Although Winnipeg is not as large as Vancouver or Toronto (Winnipeg has about 700,000 people), it does have many parks (Assinaboine Park is top notch, and has a zoo) , cultural events (i.e. Folklorama), theatres, restaurants, and places to explore. The Forks, Corydon, and Osbourne Village are trendy places to walk, shop, and eat. St. Boniface, St. Vital Park, and Wellington Crescent are beautiful ares for walking in the Sumemr.

Winnipeg is generally very safe as long as you avoid the "bad" areas...like any other larger city. When you move, people will usually show you where to avoid going (i.e. The West end, North end, Downtown at night, etc.).

Winnipeg has managed to avoid the HUGE boom in increased renting costs, although housing prices have increased. Renting a 1 bedroom apartment in Winnipeg may set you back $475-$650 depending on which area you live, but that same apartment in Vancouver, Saskatoon (huge increase in rent in the last year), or Toronto may cost you $800-$1200.

Winnipeg also have a very strong immigrant community as well. I am not sure how many Lebanese people reside there, but you may be able to find out more information on the Internet. Winnipeg is known as being "cultural friendly". Winnipeg has many ethnic restaurants and events. Even though you are just visiting, perhaps this would appeal to you.

If you are looking for excitement, then yes, be prepared to spend big money and go to UBC, McGill, Laval, or University of Toronto. These are located in Provinces with the "big" major cities.

But if you are willing to give a good sized city on the Prairies a shot (if does get very cold in the Winter!), then Winnipeg is a good choice.

The key to liking Winnipeg is to go out and explore it. There is lots to offer if you know where to look.

Right now you need to go the websites of the different schools you are considering. They will usually tell you how much each credit hour costs. If not, call. Then look up apartments in that area and rank them. You need to find a place that offers BOTH decent tuition, AND a lower cost of living. Also, some schools allow scholorships for International Students. Look into that. The University of Regina caters to IN students. U of R is also a nice school if you don't mind living in a smaller city (200,000). Renting costs have gone up in Regina, but they are not as bad as Saskatoon. Regina is a pretty, very friendly little city.

Good luck with your choice!

Answer
Depending on how much time you have, you can try any or more of these options:

1) Try the Gulf News classifieds. You can just drop them an email at classified@gulfnews.com with the description of the furniture, and they will run your ad for free after 2 days, for a 3-day period. Make sure that you mention you full name and daytime phone number in the email, even if you don't want it to appear in the ad.

Instead of sending them an email, you can also choose to contact Gulf News Classifieds at their toll-free no. 800 4125, and dictate your classified ad to them on phone.

2) You can also place the items in a UAE-based online auction site, www.souq.com . The listing is free, and you can keep the auction open for 2 weeks at a time. Make sure to include a picture of the item. There are various payment collection options, including cash, card, or even C.O.D. through courier.

Hope the above info has been of help! All the best!
