Greetings, Yahoo Answers, I come again to ask some questions.
1. I am wondering if it is okay to use my bedroom as a home studio (my drums and guitar are in there)
2. Is there anyway to build something cheap at 13 years old for a home studio? I can just find a free studio software
3. any ideas for vocal recording?
4. Any ideas for drum recording?

Answer
Absolutely, Drew! Go for it. Of course, a bedroom is not an ideal place for recording. No square or rectangular room is. But at your stage it will be fine.

Here are some basic tools for a home studio. It sounds like you're on a tight budget, so you'll have to save up.

The minimum requirement for recording an acoustic drum kit is a pair of microphones to be placed above the kit (called 'overhead's'), and one mic for the bass drum. (If you have an electric kit you don't need mic's.) Adequate mic's for the job might cost you $500 or 600. I know that's a chunk. You could just go with three Shure SM57 mic's. These are $100 each or less. The SM57 (and SM58) are standard gear for any studio. You can use them for almost anything and they are nearly indestructible. You would use two as stereo overhead's and one in the bass drum. When you have a bigger budget you can buy separate SM57's for the snare and toms. One between every two toms can work. The best overheads are what are called small diaphragm condenser microphones, like the M-Audio Pulsar II. There are mic's designed for bass drum.

One of your most important investments will be a good vocal mic. Try to acquire a large diaphragm condenser mic. This type is the best for vocals and all acoustic instruments. You can record drums, too. Just keep them at a safe distance from drumsticks. They're more delicate than SM57's. They can be as cheap as $100, although I would advice spending more than that. MXL makes some great large diaphragm condensers for under $200, and a couple under $100, although I can't vouch for those.

If you can't afford all of this right away, get the vocal mic. You can use it to record drums and anything else. Call Sweetwater 800-222--4700. They will tell you what else you'll need to get started - a mixer, an amp and speakers (or powered speakers), the right patch cords, etc. Tell them what your budget is and they'll work with it if they can.

Keep lots of soft things in your room - pillows, etc - to minimize the sound bouncing off the walls. Keep your mic's, and what you're recording, away from hard surfaces. In a small room it's best to set mic's as close to the source as possible.

Have fun!

How does Chicago compares to Phoenix, Arizona or New York City in terms of housing/jobs/environment/people?

Raines

Just want to know which city is better for me to move to for affordable studios/1 bedroom under $600-$700/mth and employment in office/clerical/psychology fields.

Answer
Stick to Arizona, the housing prices are rough in Chicago and NYC.

Even though the Chicagoland area is the largest employment area in the US, the housing in both the large cities would have to set you back at least $700.

The Bobs Jamestown bedroom set (http://www.mybobs.com/Jamestown.aspx) is apparently made from Indonesian Mahogany. I have read in a couple websites that illegal logging is a growing problem in Indonesia. Does buying furniture like this contribute to the problem?

Answer
Simply put, yes. It doesn't matter if it is legally imported or not, this trade makes a market for the illegally imported items.

Can I print from a wireless computer in my home network to a non-wireless printer?

synschroni

In my network I have two laptops and a wireless netgear router. I have a regular printer physically connected to one of the laptop. Can I send something to print from the laptop that is not connected physically to the printer via the laptop that is connected to the printer. Currently, if I have something to print on the remote computer I have to take it up from the bedroom to the printer in the living room and physically connect it to the printer.

Answer
Yes, but you have to set the printer up for Sharing on the network. Try this:

XP machines should be able to simply Share the printer from the machine it’s attached to, this way:

1.Click the Start->Control Panel menu item.
2.Click Printers and Other Hardware.
3.Click Printers and Faxes.
4.Click the printer in question.
5.Click the Printer->Sharing menu item.
6.Click the Share radio button.
7.Give the printer a name.
8.Click OK.

If the machine with the printer has Windows XP and the other has Windows Vista or, probably, Windows 7, you have to do a bit more than that. Try this:

1.On the XP machine, set the printer to Sharing in the Printers and Faxes dialog box, as detailed above.
2.On the Vista machine, get to the Add A Printer dialog.
3.Click Add a local Printer. (Yes, I know it's not local. Trust me.)
4.Click the Create a new port radio button. Leave the type of port set to Local Port.
5.Click the Next button.
6.In the Port Name text box, enter the printer's name, complete with the other machine's name (e.g. \\Bob's Machine\Bob's Printer).
7.Click OK.

Hope that helps.

A new bedroom set would be nice, but at the moment, I cannot afford one. Is there any crafty ideas I could use such as making a headboard or something neat.

Answer
There are many easy ways to make your own headboard, so I recommend you do a search on the Internet for this. You can find simple instructions for painted headboards, or upholstered, or pillowed panel-like ones that hang on the wall... If the rest of your furniture is mis-matched or isn't quite to your liking, you can use the same materials or techniques to update the look with a minimal additional expense, then you'll have a matching set.

Depending on your style preferences, the easiest headboard to make is simply to paint a bunch of cork trivets (available from Ikea in a package of 3 for $4 or something like that) in colours that work in your room, then hang them behind your bed like a headboard. It adds instant colour, a unique way to display photos and stuff, and is fast, easy, and relatively inexpensive. A search on the web will provide more ideas too. Good luck!

I'm looking for a bedroom set but I need the bed to be a full size not queen, my bedroom is rather small and the wall where the bed will fit best is only 115" long. I want a bed and two night stands one on each side. So a queen is out of the question.
So far most places I've looked do not offer their bed set on a full. Only child beds come in full size. I know that there has to be a shop willing to order a full size in an adult looking bedroom set. Anyone know of a good place to look?

Answer
Well best prices and collections you will find in Dumyat which is 2 hours from Alex by car, regarding places for furniture with reasonable prices inside here are some

Also some places in Mansheya in down town you can find other stores for furniture

What is a pillowtop mattress and a eurotop mattress?

Q. I am looking for a memory foam mattress for a queen size bedroom set. I see most furniture stores that I look at selling pillow top or euro top mattress. Can you describe what these are? Any recommendation to buy a good and comfortable bedroom set for older people?

Answer
Your question and what you say you are looking for are completely different. Memory foam mattresses are a completely diferent breed of mattress. Some find them amazing; others, not so much. One memory foam that has done really well in the way of not getting a lot of complaints is the Dynasty memory foam mattress. It's also cheaper than a lot of the memory foam mattresses on the market. I have been thinking about making it my next mattress but am not sure yet how I feel about the memory foam. The following is where you can find some more information on the Dynasty:

http://www.qmattresses.com/category/brands-of-mattresses/dynasty-mattresses/

My suggestion - do your research online, not at the stores. Too many buyers get blindsided by salesmen. Either the salesmen doesn't care about anything except commission, others just aren't trained to handle customer needs.

My grandma gave me a brand new bedroom set for my daughter. However it's blue. How can I change the color?

bedroom set contemporary
on BEDROOM SET MODERN PLATFORM WOODEN FURNITURE : Furniture Brands India ...
bedroom set contemporary image

dbestonegi

Its a wood set. I was wondering if it could be either painted or spray painted. I want the most easiest, decent, way to change the color. And tips?

Answer
Changing the color of a bedroom set is one of the easiest and most cost-efficient ways to completely redo the look and image. You'll be amazed at the results! And before I forget, the second easiest and most cost-efficient way to redo the set is to change the hardware, if there is any. It's amazing what contemporary pull knobs in brushed stainless will do for even colonial looking furniture...once it's painted, of course. So back to that.

The first thing you need to do is prepare the furniture so that when you do put your paint on, it won't eventually peel or flake off. So clean the furniture well. Use TSP which you can find at your local hardware store. I suggest you use the liquid kind as opposed to the powder, which not only will you have to measure, mix and rinse, but it's toxic. The liquid is biodegradable, it's easier to mix and you don't have to rinse it.

Once all dirt, grease and grime are removed and the wood has dried, you'll need to prepare it according to it's surface. Lightly sand the wood with a fine grain paper, just enough to make it easier for the following products to adhere.

You'll want to prime the surface. I suggest you use an oil-based primer, since
a) the wood of the bedroom set is most likely protected with an oil-based varnish and
b) ANYTHING sticks to oil-based primer.

I really like either Kilz or Bullseye 1-2-3. These are primer paints that are even used to get rid of graffiti and will make a perfect canvas for your new paint color, allowing an even covering and a professional looking finish.

Now comes the fun part! You've chosen your paint color. Do you use spray paint, or brush it on??? You get to decide: It's certainly much more work to spray paint furniture, because you have to protect the surrounding area and do the work in a well-ventilated area. And you have to have patience. When they say on the instructions that 2 or more light coats are better than one thick one, THEY ARE TELLING THE ABSOLUTE TRUTH! Unless you don't care about leaks and drips... So if you don't have the patience to do 2 or 3 or maybe even 4 thin coats, don't go there. Drips are horrendous and will make you hate the furniture. But it's important to know that spray painting is how furniture makers paint their furniture. It really does give the nicest professional finish. I usually opt for spray painting in about 80-85% of the time when talking about repainting furniture and decorative objects.

If you want to get it done with with less preparation fuss, you'll want to use a roller or a paint brush... sponge brush & roller if you're using oil paint, and bristle and normal roller for latex paint. If you do use latex, either make it a washable latex finish or also plan on applying a sealer (latex also, available in finishes from mat all the way up to high gloss). But keep in mind that if you aren't careful - especially in nooks and crannies - you'll still get leaks and drips. Just in case you're curious, I'll opt for spray painting about 80% of the time...

Have you thought of the color you want to paint? What is your daughter's room like now, or are you planning on changing the whole scheme and or theme of the room? What kind of a feel do you want the furniture to have: zen, princess, tomboy, laura ashley, etc.) If you're interested, please feel free to email me and I'll give you a few more ideas and tips.

Whatever you decide, remember that paint is THE QUICKEST, FASTEST, MOST COST-EFFICIENT WAY to revamp anything... or almost... And keep in mind, if you do make a mistake, you can fix it again!

Is it worth it to hire professional movers for a small move or to do it yourself?

bedroom set rent to own
 on Rent to Own Furniture
bedroom set rent to own image

lyndzmaire

My husband and I are moving from our duplex (much like the size of a large apartment) to a house in the immediate local area. We have the basics: living room set, dinning table, bedroom set (1), washer and dryer, and other small furniture peices (computer desk, etc). Is it worth it to hire professional movers or to do it ourselves. And what would be the typical cost for a small move?

Answer
Depends on how the professional moveers charge you - either by the hour or by the weight of things they are moving and the distance they are moving it.

I've moved twice in the past 12 years and did it both ways. With professional movers, you get people who know how to lift and move large items most effectively. They will know how to pack them and how to cushion them to prevent them from being damaged during the move - and have those items on their trucks. If you do it yourself, you will have to buy these items.

Movers that are paid by the hour will give you all manner of excuses for not being in a rush. In my first move, I was going across town into the boondocks from a downtown house. It was mostly interstate driving and they followed me. Never saw a truck go so slow in all my life! I kept trying to get them to at least do the speed limit of 55 and they kept falling back. They wouldn't go faster than 40 the whole way and then they would brake at every traffic light even while it was green. They gave me some sorry excuse that they had trouble with their brakes and wanted to be sure they could stop if the light changed - to avoid jostling my furniture.

Professional movers have some of the sorriest rules I have ever heard of. They wouldn't take a folding bed because it wasn't in a box. They wouldn't take my bikes because they weren't in a box. They wouldn't take a mattress because it wasn't in a box. They wouldn't take a western saddle becuase it wasn't in a box. You get the picture. And when I suggested they load up my dog house - you got it - had to be in a box.

The advantage of hiring professional movers is that it will save you from personal injury such as a back strain. It's common when people try to move furniture when they really aren't experienced with that kind of activity. But if they lose something or neglect to get all your things off the truck, you will play heck trying to get them to admit they made a mistake - much less recover your missing item.

The first time I moved, I wanted the professional movers to take the things that were too awkward for me to lift or put in my car - like my dog house, bikes and folding bed. We've already been down that road.

I wanted to save money. I knew how long it took to get from point A to point B. I hadn't counted on the moving company hiring slowest drivers in the galaxy.

If the movers take your stuff, they will call for aid and move all your things into a second truck to get your things to the destination, no matter what. If you are moving yourself and have a breakdown, you are on your own. Do you really want to leave all your possessions in the back of a truck while it is in the repair shop?

If you don't own a pickup truck but have a friend offering you the use of theirs, don't do it. Go to U-Haul or Ryder and rent one. What your friend isn't considering is that heavy and large furntiure can dent the bed or the side of the truck if it the item is even remotely off balance in the truck. The legs of furniture can scrape the paint right off the truck bed. And even though you might think that a truck is a truck, this is not the case. Do you really know what your furniture weighs and what the truck is capable of carrying - safely? Trust me on this - rent a truck designed to move furniture and household items.

On my second move - I went three states away. Professional movers were a necessary evil. No matter what the estimate was, be sure and have MORE on hand because they will always gouge you and then try to make some sorry excuse as to why it cost more than the estimate. And don't try to pay the extra with a traveler's check. You wouldn't believe how many movers have never heard of them and don't know what they are - much less accept them. I insisted they were all I had.

There is no typical cost for any move. It all depends on who you hire to do it and how they charge you. Some have a flat hourly rate while others have a flat rate for the estimated weight of the items you have - while others will take the truck to weigh station to get written documentation of the weight of the truck with all your things in it.

If you can get a local mover who never goes out of the state, go with that company. They want to be home for dinner and they will work faster than a national mover.

Why is owning a home important in life?

Lolzr

What are some good reasons for owning your own home. I have some reasons on why it isn't but I rather not say so that I don't interfere in your answers so please give some evidence or support behind your statements.

Answer
Lolzr,

First let me say that owning a home is not important in life--that's the old American dream talking. In fact, two of my 3 adult children rent rather than own, and renting is without a doubt the wiser and more enjoyable way to go for them.

Having said that, and acknowledging that there are plenty of cons that go with home ownership, I will tell you why owning a home is important to me personally:

--my home is part of who I am. It belongs to me, not someone else.
--my home makes me more part of my neighborhood, and more connected with my neighbors who are also homeowners [I once rented a home in a home-owning neighborhood, and the neighbors really didn't want to get to know me because they viewed me as a 'transient.' Which I was]].
--owning a home rather than renting, generally speaking, will put you in a more traditional kind of neighborhood environment, which I like. Instead of living in an apartment-like or condo-like setting, I live in a neighborhood of single family homes where people are out and about putzzing around in theri gardens and garages and out walking their dogs. I like that.
--owning a home means that I am among a lot of other dog owners and dog walkers. It's a great way to meet and chat with people.
--I can do what I want with my own home. I can paint the walls a different color, bump out a wall if I want a bay window to look out, etc.
--I can live in larger square footage, have extra bedrooms, space that I wouldn't be willing to pay for if I were renting. Thus, owning my own home means I have more space to live in. That includes a bigger kitchen and 2 1/2 baths.
--my home is the Keeper of my Kids' Stuff. One feels like a good parent when one's kids feel that they can store their stuff in your basement, knowing that their stuff will be safe.
--I feel safe to own a dog, or dogs, without fearing that I might have to give up the dog if my rental situation should change down the road. People who own pets are limited in their choice of places to rent. I don't like that feeling, of being excluded from some places to live.
--I'm the one in control of where I live. Related to dog ownership above. My dogs are like children to me--I don't want to live fearing that I might have to let them go because someone else has more power to say whether I can keep them or not than I myself may have.
--Since it's mine, and I have no plans or desire to move, I can 'settle in' to it--into my own home. I've been able to turn part of my basement into an exercise room with a stationary bike, weights, a TV, etc. I couldn't/wouldn't do that as a renter.
--Owning a home is expensive, but the equity from its sale can be passed down to my children in my will.
--owning a home gives me a sense of security. It makes me feel rooted.
--I think my children like it, the feeling of 'coming back home' to Mom and Mom's and Dad's house raher than to Mom and Dad's apartment.
--Because I own it, I can re-landscape and remodel the exterior, with an eye to good architecture, so that the home's appearance will be valued not just by me but by future residents of my community. It will be my legacy--my little gift of beauty to my little corner of the world when I am gone.

How early to people usually show up to an estate sale?

Ashley A

I found pictures of an elderly woman's estate sale. She has a very cool antique bedroom set (dresser, nightstand, four-poster bed and another chest of drawers). I want to know how early I should get there if the estate opens at 9am. Also, do I go in there and make an offer or will the items be priced? Are these prices generally negotiable?

Answer
If the estate sale is run by some sort of company, it is doubtful prices will be negotiated. It can't hurt to ask how low they would be willing to go.
These people know how much antiques cost and they get a percentage of the profit from the estate.
If the sale starts at 9 am, you should be there by 8:50 (just in case they hand out #'s or let a certain amount of people in at one time).

Good Luck and Happy Hunting.

How do you freshen old dresser drawers?

Silverwolf

A friend just gave me a bedroom set (mirror dresser and chest of drawers) that has been in a garage for quite some time. They're old but still in good shape. What's the best way to clean them (the dust is in EVERY nook and cranny) and what can I do to keep my clothes from picking up that stale wood smell? Any suggestions are appreciated.

ps I don't like the smell of cedar, so that's out. I like the smell of lavendar or fresh flowers, just like the laundry soap I use.

Thanks!!

Answer
put some dryer sheets in them and stick them in a warm dry area for a couple of days and febreeze them. or you could stick some regular bar soap in them and let it sit for a couple of days

10pts! Can somebody help me with the setting of my story?

LoveStar

Ok, I want my story to take place in Chicago where the main characters live in a creepy, old apartment a few miles (but not in the ghetto/slums) away from the city. Is such a location possible in Chicago? And would it be on the south side of Chicago?

Answer
I recently wrote a piece where Chicago was the backdrop. I utilized wikipedia first and then jumped to the reference links at the bottom in order to get really specific. One thing I learned was that Chicago is a city. One single City and a small one at that. The trains are elevated and run in a loop around the city. Now the city has hotels and skyscrapers that have condos and apartments inside of them yet homes and neighborhoods are outside of Chicago.

--- Each of the neighborhoods have a history of immigrants of one type or another from Russian to Irish to Italian. Each history for each neighborhood plays a role in the construction of the city or some interesting events in the growth of the city. Migration is another mitigating factor, as the city grew people moved further into the surrounding suburban neighborhoods, Wicker Park for instance seemed to have an incredible boom of authors and artists and architects. To this day the homes are maintained and can be visited on a walking tour.
--- Granted depending on how long you've been writing you may not understand how these intricacies affect your story. My character is raised in a housing project 'the ghetto' however when she first moved there the neighborhood was actually built for middle class working families with cute small homes that were brand new. As more and more people needed cheaper housing the houses were redesigned and made into track housing and eventually a large apartment complex which became the infamous Cabrini Green. the track houses just across were the Robert Taylor projects. the entire neighborhood was prone to violence but was once for upwardly mobile families just starting out.
-- During my research I found that both projects have been completely obliterated as well as several of the loop trains that ran through those neighborhoods. I also found out that gang violence is more prevalant and that the Chicago Mobs are all about gone, which were both needed for my story so I had to go in a different direction.

--- As you go along draw yourself a map of the area you select. Millenium Mile is the shopping hall down the middle of Chicago. It is also surrounded by water which is why the temps are so cold. Illinois is the state and has several beltways that make travel from suburbia into Chicago easy. A large percentage of the buildings that have recently been built change hands often because of the high rents and the inability to find businesses able to move in and maintain their bottom line. Check the Black building Trump and Verizon towers I believe.
--- My brother lives in Evanston it is about 20 outside of Chicago he lives in a small one bedroom apartment in a well kept but old apartment building. It's sort of creepy to me because it's kind of like a railroad flat so it's pretty dim down the center.
--- Anyway you could always drop by a travel agency and get a pamphlet or the library and copy a few pages from a travel guide. To me those are the best because they give you tourist traps, restaurants, hotels, theatre, walking tours with maps, driving instructions (so major and minor roads) and break downs of all the areas and what they are most famous for and their biggest attractions.

How much does it cost to ship apartment furniture across country by rail?

bedroom set deals
on ... Simple Cherry King Panel Bed Bedroom Set Special Deal | eBay

Mike

Looking to ship a bedroom set, coffee table, entertainment stand and a few small boxes across the country from PA to CA. Truck rentals are north of $1500, companies like PODS and so on are way too expensive. I am curious as to how much it could cost shipping via rail instead. Can't really find too much on pricing.

Answer
The days when the railroads shipped small lots (called LCL=less than carload) ended by 1960. Most freight now is carried in multiple car lots under contract. The charges for a single sixty-foot long box car would undoubtedly be more than truck rate and you would have to find a rail siding at origin and destination that would allow loading and unloading for a one-time shipper. Your best bet, outside moving companies, is to look at containers. Contact local freight forwarders and check on rates for renting and shipping a container. Best bet might be to contact PODS (see info below under What's your source?) which provides smaller containers and will also store them until you are ready to unload. They are also used to dealing with domestic consumers on single shipments, while a lot of freight forwarders are business oriented and won't do much to get a one-time shipment. While you may think companies rates are expensive, consider their equipment, fuel, labor and insurance costs. Unless you can find an independent trucker (gypsy) who has already made his money hauling a load from CA to PA and is back-hauling your load to avoid returning empty and therefore willing to give you a cheap price, you will probably not find a bargain rate. Consider selling or donating the furniture locally and replacing it at your new locale, and shipping the few boxes by US Postal Service (before their rates go up to UPS/Fedex levels or they go broke).

Where can I buy a new bed for cheap?

Just the bed. not the whole bedroom set. Just the matress and the headboard and stuff. We have a Rooms To Go in our area but I hear that place is expensive. Any suggestions?? and if this helps.. i live in north east florida.

I live in Jacksonville and there's a Rooms To Go outlet in the area. I forget what road its on, but if you look at yellowpages.com, you can find it. I found my bed on craigslist.com. You can find some really good deals on there. Sticks N Stuff is also a good place in the Jacksonville area... I found some not too bad deals there as well. Hope this helps!

Curious

Ive purchased things from my neighborhood walmart store but ive never purchased things online from them. They have amazing prices online and I was thinking about getting some stuff (TV, bedroom set, couch/sectional) and I wanted them to be sent to the walmart nearest me and ill pick them up. Im a little skeptical tho, ive never done this before. What if something gets damaged, or I change my mind about what was sent cuz it doesnt fit or something like that. How is the returning process? Will all my stuff have a warrenty. Basically will i be satisfied with this decision.. has anyone ever done this before? Were you happy?

Answer
Hello,

I have had good experiences with online ordering through Walmart.
Online ordering is easy and although I've not had any cause to return items due to
shipping damage etcetera, their return policy applies to both online and store bought
as far as I know.

I've ordered the following items (not at same time) with no delivery issues or damages to items ordered:
Camping gear such as lantern, catalytic heater, tent, coffee pots (two types) and gazebo.
I've ordered a 55" Sanyo flat screen TV for our living room as well.
All items were delivered to the store closest to my home about two miles away.
There have been no scratches or dents or malfunctions on anything I've ordered,
so I can't comment on ease of returns for online orders.

It would not take much time to give WalMart a call and ask them
directly about your other concerns, the ones I can't answer.

Basically, I do not worry when ordering online with Walmart.
They have a proven track record of ease and dependability for my orders so far.
I'll be ordering again from Walmart online very soon.

What age did your child outgrow the toddler bed?

2 boys sto

My son will be 2 in October and is still in his crib sleeping great & no climbing out!
We plan to keep him there as long as possible. We already bought a toddler bed.. but I have been having thoughts about taking it back and just going straight to a twin bedroom set.... IDK. How long did your child stay in a toddler bed?
I just wanted to add that the toddler bed was only 50$ so its not that much money.

Answer
MMy eldest went from her crib and into a twin bed at age 18 months...we just did not have money for a toddler bed and that one was given to us...she ws fine...we used to put pillows by te bed but he never fell out. My youngest is 2 and she has just been gven a toddler bed by a friend and my friends daughter only just grew out of it at age 5 but she is small and skinny. If you can afford it I say get the toddler bed..they are cute and feel safe to the toddler ....

I'd like a queen panel bed (no need for a boxspring), a new queen mattress and a matching dresser. I'm trying to stay under $700. Any suggestions on how to stay within budget? I dont think I'll find what I want at a garage sale, and things like Craigs List dont have much in my area.

Answer
Well, getting all that for that price isn't going to be easy... Your best bet is WalMart or KMart. Other than that, I suggest you look at classified sections in your neighborhood. You could even find a notary public who could tell you where to look for estate sales. Sometimes, you can pick up a really nice bedroom set for peanuts, meaning you can spend a bit more on a quality mattress... as I wouldn't buy the mattress used. And if worse comes to worst, then you can get yourself a mattress at WalMart. They have some pretty neat ones that come in a rolling box and have a memory foam top.

Where can I find good furniture thats inexpensive?

Me and my boyfriend will be moving into a apt. soon and have no furniture, well except a computer stand and some pots and pans. Need to know where to get couches, bedroom sets, everything. Please help and please dont say wal-mart because I already looked there, want more options if possible. Dont mind used.
Oh and our apt is in Fresno, CA

Answer
There are lots of ways to get cheap furniture as long as you are not ultra trendy. Here are a few I have done.

1) With the amount of foreclosures going on these days, there are total steals at thrift stores for barely used furniture. Places like Salvation Army and Goodwill always has used furniture coming in for sale. Most of the time, the staff is clueless the real value of the pieces.

2) Call up your local sheriff office, as when and where the local sheriffs sale is. There are lot of good buys there. You can get some nice cars cheap there also if you are looking for that.

3) Of all things, call up a furniture store and ask where their "return warehouse" is. Most furniture stores have as much as a 20% return rate and by law, they cannot sell the furniture as new.

4) Post an ad at a local supermarket billboard and have it sale very bluntly, "Looking for used furniture in good condition." It is amazing the calls you can get from supermarket and community boards.

5) Estate / Moving Sales at houses around your neighborhood could be helpful. These are few and far between but when you are driving around and you see a sign for one, drop everything and go. It is amazing some of the finds you are get a places like this.
