I personally think that you should have a Paris themed room. You could have an poodle with a black Barrett ontop of your dresser and it could have a black Eiffle Tower in front of it.
Also you could have different sized frames that haves pictures of the Eiffle Tower, a stoned sidewalk like they have in Paris, and maybe some pictures of freshed baked dough.

Where to get a good bedroom set?

Fitch

I'm a teenage, and I have outgrown my old bunk-bed kid room...anyway, I was wondering where a good place to look for a new bedroom set teenage friendly. Know any names of some good companies. Higher quality than Art-Van but a little more cost friendly then Ethan Ellen.

Why do whistleblowers badly harassed even as China vows to fight corruption?

HUIZHOU, China (Reuters) - Chinese bloggers trying to expose corruption say they are coming under increasing physical and verbal attack over their reports, in what anti-graft activists describe as another blow to efforts to make Chinese officials more accountable.

At least six self-styled whistleblowers have been assaulted or harassed in recent months, according to media reports, Internet postings and several of the bloggers who spoke to Reuters.

Two unidentified men stabbed blogger Li Jianxin in the face and splashed acid on his back on July 8. Li, now blind in his right eye, remains in hospital in the southern city of Huizhou.

The attacks coincide with a government crackdown on activists demanding officials disclose their wealth, underscoring the limits of an anti-corruption push by President Xi Jinping.

Xi, who became president in March, has called for action against graft, warning, as many Chinese leaders have before him, that the problem could threaten the ruling Communist Party's survival.

"If President Xi Jinping is serious about fighting graft, then he should ensure that these individuals are protected from such intimidation and persecution," said Maya Wang, a researcher at Human Rights Watch.

TV: Threat to whistleblowers http://link.reuters.com/qem22v

Xi has said the "supervision of the people" is needed to fight corruption.

Indeed, Li said he and other whistleblowers were encouraged when they heard officials discuss "public opinion-based oversight" of power during China's annual parliament session in March. Li said he thought that meant the government wanted the Internet to be a tool to weed out corruption.

"It was like a boost to the heart," Li, 45, told Reuters from his hospital bed where he awaits three more operations in addition to the three he has undergone.

"It signified that the nation's leaders attach importance and support our anti-corruption efforts on the Internet."

Li, who runs a small restaurant, began posting accusations of official misconduct, illegal land grabs and nepotism in the city of Huizhou in Guangdong province just over a year ago.

In March, someone tossed a brick through his daughter's bedroom window. Li was not cowed.

"If they have the guts, they should take a gun and shoot me dead," Li wrote in an online forum after that incident.

Li does not know who attacked him last month and police have not made any arrests. He vowed to continue his online reports.

The postings contain few documents to support his accusations and none of Li's dozens of exposes have led to investigations. Much of his information comes from informants, Li said, adding he had never been sued for slander.

Huizhou officials did not respond to repeated requests for comment.

INTERNET IS FORUM FOR WHISTLEBLOWING

While whistleblowing mostly occurs inside organisations in Western countries, in China it plays out on the Internet, a barometer of public opinion for the country's middle-class and where people can reach a wide audience.

There are some three dozen Chinese whistleblowers who regularly post reports online under their own names about alleged corruption and misconduct, according to Reuters estimates based on the number of microblogs as well as media reports.

In January, the Central Discipline Inspection Commission, the party's anti-corruption authority, said it welcomed public participation in fighting corruption if people used their real names on the Internet.

"Any real-name whistleblowing report will be prioritised and will be given a timely response", Cui Shaopeng, the commission's spokesman, told a news conference at the time.

Authorities have investigated some online accusations since then and jailed several low-level officials.

The commission has a page on its website for tips from citizens, although it is unclear how many it has gotten recently. Between 2008 to 2012, the commission said it received 301,000 whistleblowing reports online. Officials at the commission, contacted by Reuters, declined to comment.

Still, Beijing remains wary of giving people too much latitude and does not give legal protection to whistleblowers.

Indeed, Zhu Ruifeng, one of China's most prominent whistleblowers, discovered last month the authorities had deleted his four microblog accounts. One was reactivated recently after a public outcry.

Zhu, who runs a whistleblowing website called "People Supervision Net" in Beijing, does not know who closed the accounts but reckons it was because of his recent postings on a government official who had spent lavishly on his mistress.

While he believed the party's discipline commission was sincere in fighting corruption, other government departments did not always like what he did.
"Sometimes I'll arouse the attention of the discipline commission. (The authorities) have a love-hate relationship with me," he said.

Last year, Zhu released a video of Lei Zhengfu, a district party chief in the southwestern city of Chongqing, having sex with his much younger mistress.

Communist Party officials are banned from having mistresses, and the video came to symbolise to many the excesses of the ruling elite. Lei was sentenced in June to 13 years jail for bribery.

Zhu said he had never been assaulted but had received threats through microblog messages and emails.

"TRUTH CANNOT BE HIDDEN FOR LONG"

In the northeastern city of Dalian, microblogger Bi Meina has accused an official there of misconduct. She posted the claims on her microblog but did not provide any documentation.

Since May, Bi said she has been followed and received calls and text messages from anonymous users, who have hurled insults.

"The distress is definitely there,&quo
Bi said by email. "I have thought of giving up ... and moving my family abroad."

In Maoming, another Guangdong city, an official called Zhu Guoyu has sought to expose local corruption with his online reports.

Nine officials had been convicted as a result of his postings, said Zhu Guoyu, the secretary-general of the Maoming People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and head of the international liaison office in the city.

His bosses don't like what he does.

"They try to keep me busy so I don't have time to whistleblow," he said.

Last September, men in two cars chased him. In 2011, he was stabbed by unknown assailants but survived.

Despite the threats faced by bloggers and whistleblowers, the tide would turn in their favour, Zhu Guoyu said.

"There are so many people watching, I believe paper can't wrap up a fire," he said, referring to a Chinese saying that means the truth cannot be hidden for too long.

@ Well said Mr Liu! If more Chinese Nationals think like you on how China should be governed, China will be a much better place for the 1.3 billion People.

Getting democracy is only a first step, what follows are setting up watch-groups and agencies in all levels of a policy execution to ensure no one violate the rules and laws. Without good watch-groups, whoever sits in Xi Jinping's position will just be as corrupted as he is. When the very top leader is corrupted, all his staff will follow suit.

You have to be very careful when spreading democracy in China after reading the harassment of China's whistle-blowers above.
@ eiji, Can you explain what is Law and Rule in CCP China? Who interpret the laws and who decides convictions? It's CCP silly kid!!!

Answer
The reason of why these whistleblowers are being harassed is because of fear. The CCP fears that these whistleblowers will revealed all of the CCP's long time corruptions to the people. These whistleblowers are the ones who give warning signal to the CCP to cut off the corruption. And the CCP officials don't want the people to know the truth of CCP corruptions. Whistleblowers will revealed all the CCP's corruption one by one. And the CCP is scared if the corruptions are revealed by the whistleblowers.

That is why CCP is harrassing those whistleblowers, because the CCP knows very well that these whilstleblowers are the ones who will punish the CCP. Whistleblowers will punish the CCP for its own created corruption, because whistleblowers are critical. The CCP harrassing those whistleblowers in order to cover up CCP's own denials and lies regarding its crimes and corruption. The CCP keeps deny its own wrongdoings and crimes by harrassing the people who are critical with the CCP, including those whistleblowers.

That is the real prove that one party state system can only creates unhealthy power struggle and rampant corruption.

In the democratic countries, those whistleblowers are the ones who help the country to curb off the corruptors. In every democratic countries, whistleblowers are the ones who make sure that no one is against the laws and regulations. Whistleblowers in the democratic countries are encouraged, because whistleblowers can give guidance to the citizens and the government on how to do things right.

If China smart enough to chase away the CCP and creates the system which is similar to Taiwan and US. I am sure that unhealthy power struggle and rampant corruption could be reduced more effectively.

Here are the following qualifications to tackle down the rampant corruptions and unhealthy power struggle:

1. China must have 3 power structures to balance up the power such as Administrative (the government), Legislative ( the law and policy makers) , and Jurisdiction (courts and judges) to balance up the power system in China and balance up the goverment's job. Meaning that these 3 governmental bodies will work together on managing the country.
But these 3 governmental bodies must also be given the equal rights, meaning that none of these 3 bodies will overpowering the other. And the government should not have the power over the legislation and jurisdiction.

2. Opposition parties, free press, non-profit governmental bodies, etc. will be the supervisor or watcher of the government. Meaning that opposition parties, free press, non-profit governmental bodies, etc. will supervise and give advice or suggestions to the government on how to work on everything.

These opposition parties, free press, non-profit governmental bodies, etc. will make sure that the government will do the right things and avoid the same mistakes.

3. In order to avoid the failures of India or Philippines and following the success of US, Hongkong, Singapore, Taiwan, and European countries. Independent agencies and watch groups need to be installed as the policy execution to supervise and to make sure that nobody is acting against the rule and law.
When the independent agencies and watch groups are installed, then the crime rates and law abuse rates will be solved effectively.

4. To solve China's corruptions, good independent anti corruption agency outside of police and government administration have to be set up as in Hong Kong and Singapore. These anti corruption agencies will finally investigate big corruptor such as Jiang, Xi, Hu, Bo, and Wen. Other corruptors will also be investigated alongside with the big ones.
Independent anti corruption agency outside of police can finally solve the corruption more effectively.

But the qualifications that I mentioned above must be installed in every cities, every villages, every districts, every prefectures, etc. to make the qualifications work better. Meaning that the qualifications must be diversified and divided more specifically until the remote areas.

When there is people power like in Taiwan and South Korea, I am sure that the qualifications above I mentioned can be started much smoothly.

Ikea Mattress VS Standard Mattress?

Meeps

If I ordered a bedroom set from ikea, does most of there bed frames work with a standard box-spring and mattress or does itt have to be from ikea too
?

Answer
It depends, Check the dimensions for the model that you bought (it should be on their website.) Some are made for the European market so they need to have the IKEA mattresses but others are made to US standard sizes and fit them fine. IKEA sells both Euro and US size mattresses nowadays. I have owned several IKEA bed frames in queen size. Two of them fit the Euro sized bedding and 3 of them fit standard US bedding. The bed I use now is an IKEA queen wooden canopy bed and fits a standard Beautyrest queen perfectly. The differences are only a few inches. If the bed is more a platform style with no footboard you can usually use either size. But if it has to fit down into the frame you may have problems using the US sizes.

Also, independent local mattress companies in most cities make there own mattresses. It is usually not all that much more money to have them custom make the size you need. I have done that to get mattresses to fit 100 year old family antique beds (which are smaller than modern beds).

How much does a girls bedroom set sell for?

Chiquitrix

The bedroom set includes a twin bed frame (matress not included), a nightstand with 2 drawers, and a desk with a pull out (for possible computer keyboard) and has 3 drawers. The bedroom furniture is all in white and has been used. What would be a rough estimate on what it would sell for? (craigslist)
Thanks in advance :)

Answer
Basic rule of thumb is: 1/4 of what it cost when it was new.

The actual cost when it was new will depend on the quality of the wood and of the construction. For instance, are the drawer joints dovetailed? Is it solid wood (and what kind of wood), veneered, or painted particleboard? There is a huge possible price range of what such furniture might cost.

Used white bedroom furniture set, as described. Assume the parents are not wealthy and didn't buy high-end furniture. Probably $100-125 value for the whole lot. Less for damage, staining, chips, etc.

My husband & I recently bought a bedroom set off of Ebay. And while it isn't exactly our style we've decided to make due with it. I would however like to darken in up a bit using paint. The set includes a headboard, long dresser, two mirrors and tall chest/armoire. The problem is that the set is made of half wood and half plastic. Odd! I know. The plastic decorative parts cannot be removed. Can I paint this set? Prime and spray paint it perhaps? And if so, what kind of paint do I use? Thanks in advance.

Answer
My hubby and I have painted veneer furniture to make it look for modern contemporary. Here is how we do it. First lightly sand. Then spray with that spray primer that looks terra cotta colored. After that is dry spray with flat black paint. Start at the edges making them dark and work your way toward the middle so that a little bit of the primer shows through. Let dry a little bit and then spray with a polyurathane varnish either in matt or gloss. While the poly is still wet lightly, very lightly brush with the grain back and forth to make it look a little like wood grain. It will be dark but a little lighter toward the middle parts of each peace. Go to some furniture stores and look at some of the dark wood peices to see what I mean.

Also I did this to a dresser that we use in our office. It is a piece from the '70s an very contemporary in style. It was already a medium colored wood but I applied a darker stain with a rag and let dry. Took a while though. After that I took another lighter stain and a rounded brush and dabbed the stain on. I would kinda swish the brush to give it a mottled /burled look. We have gotten a lot of complements on how pretty it is. Experiement, you never know what you will come up with

Is there a big difference between coffee and espresso colored furniture?

Q. I am trying to complete a bedroom set by purchasing different parts from different sets. The headboard I bought was beautiful, but the dressers and armoires weren't. So I'm putting together my own "set". I would consider my headboard to be an espresso color and there is a dresser online that is considered "coffee" color. There are other dressers that are espresso but I L0VE this dresser. If I were to purchase it would the colors be totally off?

Answer
Espresso is nearly black Coffee is a very dark brown ..As far as the colors being off...yes depends on their proximity and the lighting too. PLus the colors are wildly different manufacturer to manufacturer. It could work especially if it is multitoned.. What I would do is take a photo that accurately represents the color of the headboard and email it to them but their monitors could be skewed.

My daughter has a white wash bedroom set. She has gotten older and has her own style and hates the color. What is the best way to get that white wash off and get it's natural wood tones back?

Answer
You have to use a paint stripper is the only way....That is if your wanting to keep the wood grain visible....it can be sanded lightly, primed with an oil based primer(kilz original) etc..then recoated with a latex...If she wants the grain to show..it must be stripped....There are many new strippers that do not burn the skin and such in all diy stores...but this job is work extensive..and takes alot of tlc to complete..and should not be done inside around carpets, tiles etc...

How do I restore painted wood furniture?

Yourbetter

My bedroom furniture is wood, painted black, and the dresser and nightstand have a light cherry stain on the tops. The pieces are fifteen years old, but high quality and in great shape. Everything just needs a little cosmetic work. Do I need to actually refinish the pieces? If not, what can I use to clean the painted surfaces and the stained wood? I'd like to get the furniture to look as new as possible!

I have never done anything other than wipe them down with a cloth, and I am definitely a novice at any refinishing (or anything DIY in general).

Any answers are much appreciated!

Answer
If you want restore the natural wood look you have to refinish it. I refinished my stairs with Citris Orange Paint Remover. You let it set and it bubbles the paint. Then you scrape off paint and lightly sand then polyurethane it. Or you could contact your local antique dealer and ask them. What would be the best way to touch up the furniture. Could be something simple. If it has a dull look and you haven't tried Murphy's Oil Soap.

p.s i dont want white walls or cream. i wanna stick with colors.
i thinking about green carpet, i cant do a light carpet because i have animals and i dont want it to get it really dirty.

Answer
I would choose a tan color for the walls and carpet.
Find some paint charts that match the brown on your comforter then on the same paint chart look at the lighter colors at or near the top of the chart (there should be lighter versions of the brown). Use one of those for the walls and carpet.

I would definitely go with tan for the carpet. In the years to come, wen you want to change the look of the bedroom again, any new decor will go with tan carpeting.

As for the walls, the only color that I can imagine working with both the brown and deep red in the comforter would be a pale/light green.

I put the colors of your room in this sample room on the olympic site, not sure if the link will work. I put the color green on one wall and a deep red on another with dark brown furniture so you could see how the colors work together.

Could a person claim housing benefit in London if they work?

on Queen Bed Set Under 200 Dollars from Sears.com
bedroom set under 200 image

Jason Telf

Can you claim housing benefit in London if you work.

Just curious. If I moved to London would I be able to get housing benefit because the prices of the houses in London are stuff like £150 a week and that's only for a room in a shared house.

To go for a 1 bedroom flat it goes up to about £240 a week and a studio is a bout £175 or £200 a week.

This seems a lot to me and those are just the basic rents for furnished accommodation with bills included. They are nothing fancy - a place to live and that's it.

Oh and they are in central London where I'd want to be.

So if I worked earning about £237 a week, could I claim housing benefit?

Answer
It depends on your income and age.

Housing benefit is set by each council, and isn't centrally managed, so you'd need to speak to your council to see what, if anything, you'd be eligible for.

If you're under 35, you're only eligible for the cost of a room in a shared house, and not a full flat.

Remember Jerry Seinfeld's apartment set on Seinfeld. How big is that compared to real apartments in Manhattan?

PER92

People say affordable apartments in Manhattan are small. I'm just curious how they compare to the Seinfeld apartment seen on the show.

Answer
There are two things you have to consider:

1) Seinfeld was fantasy, nobody wants to watch a TV show set in 600 sqft studio apartment over a Chinese restaurant. His "apartment" was a decent size for Manhattan.

2) Seinfeld was filmed in the early 90s, back then, rent was far less than what it is today. His apartment in the 90s might have gone for $1,800 or so.
Today, that same apartment, a one bedroom, elevator building, intercom system, would probably start at $2,700—and that's if you're lucky.

My apartment is in the Upper West Side, 2,200 sqft, two bedroom elevator, doorman, intercom, private terrace and private video surveillance, on-site gym, and it's $4,200 a month to give you an idea of running Manhattan rates.

Depending on what you're willing to sacrifice, which part of Manhattan you're willing to live, and how hard you look (I'll be honest, I didn't spend near as much time as I should have viewing and looking at apartments), you could find an apartment for much less. However, finding anything under $2,000 that isn't in the projects is a Godsend.

What are some helpful tips for moving into first apartment?

Q. I am moving into my first apartment by myself in a few weeks. Its a one bedroom, and the guy who rented before is leaving a lot of his things (bed, entertainment center, kitchen table, etc). What is some advice, or things I need to buy in order to have a gorgeous apartment that I will love?
Thanks everyone!!
The guy who had the apartment before me is a family friend-- so its not like its creepy or anything. I am definitly buying a new mattress though. And he couldn't take everything because he moved from florida to arizona with just a small Uhaul.

Answer
First of all, let me say--CONGRATULATIONS!!! Renting your first apartment is very rewarding and at the same time challenging. Be sure that the things the other renter left behind are in good condition or at least partial condition because you don't want these things to cause you trouble down the road. Once you move your things in, be sure you do a thorough "clean-thru" before you start placing things where you want them. When I say "clean-thru," I mean go room by room and sweep/mop the floors, vacuum floors ( if carpeted), clean windows, if windows open, air the rooms out for a couple of hours, (don't forget to close if you go out), make sure you do a VERY thorough clean-thru in the bathroom.....VERY important. Clean the shower/tub, sink, and toilet with all purpose cleaner so any/all germs will be killed. Place air fresheners in every room so they will have a clean scent to them at all times. The best ones I've found that do a pretty good job are the Glade scented oils and those air fresheners that release a mist of freshness every few minutes. You can set the timer for however often you want the mist to release into the room. I like the mists, but my favorite is the scented oils. To me it seems they last longer. A few things you can buy for your apartment are listed below:

1. Broom, dust pan, mop, bucket, vacuum(if floors carpeted)

2. Trash can for kitchen, bathroom, bed room

3. Cleaning supplies for bathroom use, kitchen use, and regular houskeeping use

4. Bathroom set (includes--shower curtain, soap dish, toothbrush holder, trashcan, lotion holder, and most importantly.....towel and washcloth set) (hint: shower curtain usually comes with the inside panel; the towel and washcloth set should have two washcloths, two hand towels, and two bath towels--you can pick what color, design, etc. you want--depends on your taste--bathroom set should all coordinate)

5. Make sure you have enough washcloths, towels, etc. not only for yourself, but guests as well

6. PLEASE make sure you have PLENTY of toilet paper....this one is a BIGGIE!!!

7. You also need to get a matching kitchen set which should include dish cloth, dish towel, and if you prefer....matching pot holder and glove

8. Make sure you get yourself a can opener and a hand can opener in case something goes wrong with the regular can opener.

9. Get yourself a nice dishrack, silverware tray, and a few kitchen counter essentials that you can decorate the counter with. (ex. sugar, flour, pasta, and cookie jars)--you can also get those bottles that have dried vegetables/beans in them too--look in houseware/kitchenware aisles

10. You can also get mats to put at front/back doors to keep yourself as well as guests from tracking dirt, mud, etc. into apartment. You can also get area rugs to place in rooms throughout apartment as well.

11. Last but not least--if you would like, place a nice wreath on outside of door to make your home as inviting to guests as it is to you. (another favorite of mine is the ficus trees you find in most people's living rooms. One on either side of couch, loveseat, and what have have you makes your home look gorgeous as well.

12. MOST IMPORTANT--most everything I've listed above can be found at Wal-Mart, Kmart, Pier 1(nice prices), Target, and even at a few other little stores around--Family Dollar, Dollar General

Whatever you decide, make your apartment feel as much as home to you as you possibly can.

Again, congratulations, and may your home say to you....home sweet home.

P.S. Don't forget the dinnerware--plates, cups, bowls--this comes in a set as well--

I know your apartment will be BEAUTIFUL.....congrats!!

I'm due to have a baby boy any day now .. and we have a crib for his bedroom .. and a Pack N Play for our room so he can sleep in there at night .. but we want something for him to sleep in (like a bassinet) while we are all in the living room. Bassinets seem to be obsolete .. what are people using these days in the livingroom for their newborn to sleep in???
(it's our first :)
thanks!

Answer
We used is Graco Quattro Tour stroller set up in bassinet mode and then we got a second hand bassinett. You can still get bassinet's. We sell 2 of them at Kmart. But trying to find a used one is better money wise. Just make sure it looks good and has no recalls.

We are all students and work so we won't be there during most of the day. I know it depends on a lot, but a rough estimate would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Answer
I live just outside of Detroit, but use Detroit utilities. It's just me and my husband, who travels a lot. My house, at 1800 sq. ft., may be a bit smaller than yours and is only 10 years old with good insulation. So, you're right, "it depends on a lot". But to give you an idea...

Your electric is charged per KWH (kilowatt hour). Right now, in the "D" it's about 11 cents per kilowatt hour. I used 413 KWHs in March and my electric bill was $46.00. Of course, once I start to use my air conditioner, that will go way up. Last Summer my electric bills ran from $60-$80 (I keep it set real high when I'm at work). So the faster that dial on the meter spins, the more you pay.

My gas bills were around $1.10 per CCF. In March my gas bill was $120.00. Many of my friends' bills were over $300.00 - houses not as well insulated. (we had this same discussion at work). Though you won't be using the furnace in the Summer, the 3 of you will be using hot water (usually heated with gas). Last Summer my gas bills were only around $30.00 a month.

So "dial down" and conserve the best you can and limit your runs to Starbucks *!*

Be safe in Detroit!

How much should I set aside for a monthly power bill?

Anonymous

It will be me and a roommate in a 2 bedroom apartment in Birmingham, Alabama. How much on average is your power bill? How much do you think we should set aside every month for our power bill?

Answer
height of ceilings? what is the thermostat settings? Lights left on? square footage? electric hot water heater? Electric range?

Guessing? between $100-300 per month split which ever way you like.

Will a floor hold a 75 gal. Aquarium?

Now this may sound like a stupid question. I am thinking about setting up a 75 gallon aquarium in my bedroom. It's on the second floor though and I'm not sure whether it will hold. I know it probably will but just makin sure. 75 gallons is just shy of half a ton, plus I already have a 30 gallon. I don't know anything technical about the house but it's about 35 years old. Thanks!

Answer
That's 600 lbs. plus the stand and the 30 gallon. Think about people that put their king sized water beds on the 2nd floor of an apartment building. I live in a mobile home with a 45 hex, a29 on the top of a stand with a 20 on the bottom; two 15's next to them 5 -10's and various 2 to 5 gallons. Not to mention the buckets for water changes plus the 1/2 and 1 gallon Betta jars. Crap! I just added that up. That's over 1,600 pounds in my bedroom!! Your probably better off in the 35 year old house. Back then they used real wood most of the time not particle board and 2 by 10,s for floor joists. Putting the tank next to the wall uses the strength of the wall as opposed to the middle of the floor. Unlike a water bed.

How can I get the cool end of my terrarium down to 65 degrees?

Gray

Is there a way to keep the cool end of my terrarium at consistent 60 degrees at night and 65 degrees during the day?

A few things about the placement and set up of my tank:
I have a King Snake in a 40B tank. It stays in my closet because I have cats who like to torment her. During the day when the basking light is on I leave the closet doors open with the bedroom door closed. At night when the light is off I keep the closet doors closed. The tank is also on the floor so the under tank heater is on the side. The warm end stays about 80 degrees during the day and drops to 75 at night. My problem is that the cool end never drops down past 74 degrees. I have considered a lower wattage bulb but I'm afraid that it will cool down the warm end too much.

If anyone has any advice I would love to hear it!
Thanks! -Ashley

Answer
Personally, I never have cooled down the tank past 70, so its not a problem at 75. But, if you buy a thermostat specifically for reptiles, just plug in your heating element, adjust to desired temp, and the thermostat will automatically control the temp of your cage.
Here is the link to a great thermostat that I prefer, I have 8 of them for all 18 of my herps it comes in 500 or 1000 watt systems:

http://lllreptile.com/store/catalog/reptile-supplies/thermometers-thermostats-and-timers/-/zilla-500-watt-temperature-controller/

I hope this helps and good luck. It's nice to see another girl interested in reptiles. Most scream and run away when confronted by a mere garter snake.

What kind of speakers can I buy for a small screen hdtv with digital audio output?

I just bought a 26" sharp lcd hdtv. The picture is fine, but the speakers are very disappointing. the tv does have a digital output audio. what kind of external speakers/woofers are compatible with this tv? what components will be needed? i reckon a conventional computer speaker wouldn't work.

Answer
In order to use the digital audio output, you'll need a Dolby receiver, which means you'll need a full-blown Home Theater kit. You can get these relatively cheaply these days, but you get what you pay for. If the TV is a small one for a bedroom, you might do better to take the ANALOG audio output and run that into a set of PC speakers with subwoofer.

How do i hook Verizon Fios into a TV? Is it just a cable cord like comcast?

Victoria

They are coming to install it in a few days, but in about a month I am buying 2 new TVs , (One will be replacing an old one we have now, and the other will be in a bedroom that doesnt currently have a tv. How will I hook these up? Do I have to have verizon come out again?

Answer
Your new FIOS STB (set top box) will be connected like this:

It will not matter which type of box you have requested HD, Standard either with or without the DVR:

Coax from wall to STB
Output of STB will be one of many options depending on your TV Set. The tech will have all the connection cords required.
HDMI
Component (One set of cords)
A/V (two separate cords one for video one for audio)
Coax.

If you are going to have a DVD or VCR ask the tech to run the STB through the DVD/VCR then into the TV.

If you do not have a HD TV right now and that is what you are getting just ask the tech to leave you the cords and have him/her show you how to hook them up. I have done that for a number of customers.

If a tech has to come out again, there may be a service charge.

Any ideas for decorating my bedroom?

What is the difference between a full and an oversized twin?

threelittl

I plan to buy a comforter set in an "oversized twin" but i have a full bed. Will it still work?

Answer
Hi
It can be more difficult to find bedding for an extra long twin bed. In stores, these extra long sheets are easier to find at the end of the summer, during back to school sales. You can also find sheets for an extra long twin bed online.

Some suggest using an extra long twin bed in a guest room. If you purchase two, you can push them together and create a king-size bed. Keep in mind that if you do buy an extra long mattress, you will need a new bed frame to go with it. Most mattress stores will include a new frame for little or no cost with the purchase of a new mattress and box spring.

If an extra long twin bed is not what you are looking for, there are many other mattress sizes available. A double bed, also known as a full, is another popular choice for a guest bedroom or a small apartment. These are 54 inches by 75 inches (137 cm by 190 cm). Some couples find them uncomfortable and too small for two people.

The most popular sizes for couples are queen and king size beds. Queen beds are 60 inches by 80 inches (152 cm by 203 cm). Standard king size beds are the widest available at 76 inches by 80 inches (193 cm by 203 cm), and the longest beds available, California kings, are 72 inches by 84 inches (182 cm by 213 cm).

Hope this helps

just let me know the website

Answer
You can get a metal bed frame with adapter plates that will allow you to bolt on your HB and FB, but use your full-sized mattress instead of the queen-size. The only thing you would not be using would be the rails that come with the bed (if there are any). Any mattress store in your town carries metal frames, and they can help you choose the right one for the bed you are buying.

I am interested in visiting Miami in the future and I was wondering what places should I visit?

Mr. Knowle

This will be my first time visiting Miami, Florida.

Answer
Why Go: Trip Ideas

Miami, FL:

Satisfy Your Vices
What's not to love about America's Riviera? At any given hour you'll see bronzed, chiseled bods strutting down shimmering beaches and streets awash in Art Deco style.
Place we love, even if it's touristy: Cruise the "Deco District," a 10-block span along Ocean Drive from Fifth to 14th Streets, that’s home to more than 800 buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The real deal: Make like a local and sip amazingly potent cafe con leches and smoke aromatic, hand-rolled cigars on Calle Ocho in the heart of Little Havana.

Local flavor: Miami's Floribbean fusion cuisine is a blend of flavors from the south and the tropics. Experiment with sides like lobster mashed potatoes at Astor Place.

Dress code: You might think it's clothing optional, but it's really about baring your best in the scantiest threads, so tighten up and suck in where you can!

Where to blow a paycheck: From Barney's to local boutiques like The Pink Palm, Lincoln Road is considered the Fifth Avenue of the South. If you still have cash, or credit, check out Ocean Drive and Collins Avenue.

Twenty-four hour party people: Sundays at Nikki Beach Club is where to go to see and be seen. Other notable clubs on any night are Shore Club, B.E.D., Tantra, and crobar.

You've got game: Take in a game of Jai Alai, a local past time and the world's fastest ball game. It's part lacrosse, part handball, and you can see it at Miami Jai Alai or Dania Jai-Alai, near Fort Lauderdale.

Chill-out spot: Pretend to read Le Monde as you scout out models and celebs, or just kick back and blatantly gawk at the scene in front of News Cafe on Ocean.

Recommendations & Suggestions:

320
320 Lincoln Road
Phone: 350.531.2800

Former 1990s hotspot Bar Room has been transformed into the most luxe and celeb-packed club of the new millenium. Find a seat near the staircase to the VIP lounge to ogle the jet-set, or snuggle in one of the numerous balconies and nooks. 320 serves a limited menu and the door policy is typical of Miami's hot spots: dress to impress.

B.E.D.
929 Washington Avenue
Phone: 305.532.9070

Drinks in Bed, anyone? Beverage, Entertainment and Dining, that is. In this eatery and club, SoBe's hottest crowd bed-hops while being served by a p.j.-clad wait-staff. This South Beach club-of-the-moment could double as a harem with its exotic and lavish bedroom decor. Take a seat or slip under the covers of one of the made up beds, and who knows who might join you for a drink.

Blue Door at the Delano
1685 Collins Ave. (at 17th St.)

Located in the super-chic Delano Hotel, the Phillipe Starck-designed Blue Door envelops Claude Troisgros' exquisite nouveau French cuisine with floor to ceiling curtains and the flicker of candlelight. Blue Door stays open late and attracts a beautiful crowd (as does most of Miami) to its terrace, offering visual feasts to go along with pleasing entrees like roasted duck with passion fruit and apple puree.

Club Deep
621 Washington Avenue
Phone: 305.532.1509

If you're longing for those plastic-cup, keg-doused college days, then head to Club Deep, where the jet-set don't go, and the bouncer doesn't care what you look like. The kind of place where nobody knows your name and every night is ladies' night. Lose your inhibitions, forget trying to be cool, and dance like you would in your living room to popular hits from the '70s and '80s. Drinks are cheap and specials last until midnight.

Goddess
681 Washington Avenue (between 6th and 7th)
Phone: 305.534.7614

This enchanting club is the jewel in every hipster's crown--anyone who's anyone has danced a night away in the Kama Sutra themed lounge. Buddhas, silk-covered lighting and a harem-like setting exist to seduce the senses while trendsetters seduce each other. Don your best (and tiniest) Eastern inspired outfit and don't fret too much about how much you'll spend--Goddess is friendlier on the wallet than one would expect in flashy South Beach.

Nikki Beach Club
1 Ocean Drive
Phone: 305.538.1111

Swing into St. Tropez at this high-end beachfront club, where Ferraris fill the valet in front of the sea, and famous models have been known to break into impromptu table dances. Yes, there are other hard-to-get-into clubs in South Beach, and there are certainly glamorous people all over this strip, but few clubs have as much class as Nikki. Not to be missed are the Sunday beach parties (yes, during daylight), if you can work your way past the bouncers.

Rain
323 23rd Street
Phone: 305.674.7447

The local, nocturnal, jet-set crowd can now forget about the loss of Groove Jet. Housed in this former space is one of the most popular hip-hop clubs to hit the SoBe scene in recent years. In contrast to the usual over-the-top South Beach clubs, Rain's approach is one of minimalism and paired-down elegance. Lounge on a modernist leather sofa, or dance underneath the stars on the open-air dance-floor. Also in contrast to neighboring clubs, the wait staff at Rain offers service with a smile.

Smith & Wollensky
1 Washington Avenue South Pointe Park
Phone: 305.673.2800

The magnificent waterfront location of this award-winning steakhouse offers unparalleled vistas of the Atlantic Ocean, the downtown Miami skyline and an endless parade of ships through the Government Cut shipping channel, located just a few yards outside the restaurant's oversized picture windows. Paying homage to the original New York institution, Smith & Wollensky is a "steakhouse to end all arguments" and is one of the few steakhouses that still dry-ages its steaks on the premises and does its own butchering. This landmark restaurant is known for serving generous portions of high quality food and is famous for their extensive wine list which highlights Bordeauxs and California Cabernets.

Before I give the details, I just have to say that i've always been a skeptic. i believe in my younger years I have experianced a few things worth questioning, but could possibly have explainations. I've never been able to prove anything when dealing with strange happenings, which still leaves me as a skeptic.

The following events have happened sometime between Friday, January 15th through today, January 26th.

A couple of friends of mine, brought an Ouija board over to our new apartment on the 15th. We were having somewhat of a get together, and drinking. I didn't touch the thing, I haven't messed with one of those in about five - six years.

Now. I believe what followed after, all has an explaination. I believe their could be a reason behind everything we're witnessing, but I can't help to be spoked, considering I haven't heard any of the following before, and we have lived here almost two months.

THE 15TH AND 16TH: The night of the 15th, and 16th, I can't recall anything happening. Although, both mornings, when my fiance and I woke up, at the same time, we could hear a popping noise in the kitchen, while we are both in bed. Both mornings this has occured at the exact same time. It almost sounds as if it's a two litter popping, when the air rises in it. Though, we don't have any bottles in the kitchen. I'm sure there's an explaination for the noise, though we find it odd it has happened at the same time both mornings.

THE 16TH - 17TH: On the night of the 16th. We were laying in bed, we have a blowup matress, considering we just moved to Knoxville, from Jacksonville, FL. And don't have all of our items. I was laying closest to the bedroom door, and our dog was laying on my side of the bed, on the floor. It took me sometime to get to sleep. We hadn't thought anything about the bottles, I didn't even consider anything paranormal at this point. Our bedroom door will not open on it's own. If anything, it wants to close by itself, and refuses to stay open. I shut all doors when I go to sleep. It's an OCD thing for me. I was having trouble sleeping. I had this feeling that someone was staring at me, or watching me. Jenova, our dog, was having trouble sleeping too. Around 10 minutes after I finally got to sleep, I heard the door pop open, and the handle jingled, as if someone had twisted it, and let go. The door creaked up a bit, and then stopped. It did not close back. As I have said before, this door, closes on its own.

THE 17TH: Adam had the day off, and we were hanging out at the house. At some point, he walked into the bedroom, and shortly came out. He then asked me why I set the Space Heater in the bedroom, to 100 degree's. We've NEVER touched the heater, as our heater works well enough, and have never had to use it. It's not digital, it's a knob that you have to turn, and it sticks as well. There is no reason for me to have turned it all the way up. I hadn't told him about the handle. But I found the heater turned all the way up odd, and decided to tell him. After explaining to him what happened with the bedroom door the previous night, he laughed a little, and joked that maybe it was because of the board. This is around the time I started thinking about it. But, me being skeptic, and thinking there could be a reason for everything that's happened. About two minutes after telling him what happened, the same thing happened, this time with the closet door. And, the closet door, acts just as the bedroom door. I walked into the bedroom, the closet was completely open. I tapped it, and it closed. We tried to get it to stay open, but it wouldn't stay on it's own. Although, previously, it was.

Nothing to odd happened the next few days.

I don't remember which day it was, but he confronted me about the space heater again. This time, it was on 60. Again, I hadn't touched it. Now, the knob is NOT on the heater. It's on the opposite wall, and it's too high for any of my dogs to accidently knock into it. It's about level with my head.

LAST NIGHT THE 25TH - 26TH: We were sleeping in the living room. I woke up, at around 3AM. And Adam was awake next to me, I asked him why he wasn't sleeping, and he told me to hush. So, I listended for a bit, and could hear what SOUNDED like, a few notes of music, every few minutes. Just barely auidable. It sounded as if it was coming from the TV. It would switch from sounding like music, to sounding like a conversation on the TV. Imagine your TV being on very low, almost to the point where you cant here it, but can pick up a few bits of conversation. Only, your TV is completly off. I thought, maybe the neighbors were playing music, or had their TV loud. The thing is, there is 10 apartments to a Unit. And we're 1 of 3 families that live in our unit. There are three floors, us on the top, and the other two on the first floor. There's nobody directly beside, or below us.

As for today. Adam left the house for work around 10AM. I went back to sleep, awaking

Answer
Ouija boards don't summon spirits or anything they work by the ideometer effect, you push it around subconsciously yourself so you may as well have said that your friends had a nice game of checkers or any other game, since playing them will have exactly the same effect as the ouija - that is none.

It's a bit hard for any of us to identify where your noises and stuff are coming from since we can't hear them and don't have access to your house to investigate, but that seeing you said in the first sentence that you are a skeptic I'm sure you will find answers that aren't based on spooky magic. And sometimes we hear noises and never work out exactly what they are - which doesn't matter since they are causing us no harm and being skeptics we know that they don't originate from some paranormal source.

best city in florida to live and fly fish?

Chris F

whats your favorite

Answer
Best city to live in???? AND Fly-fish????

Wow! There's a number of factors that could sway that decisions- I could write a book on the subject.

Here's my top picks:

#1. Palm Coast- Palm Coast has an abundance of amazing deals on property and homes. You can get a 3-4 bedroom waterfront condo with all the amenities for $109-$130 grand. (That is incredibly CHEAP for Florida waterfront) The "crash" has made these bargains available. Palm Coast has little crime- compared to Jacksonville, Miami, or Tampa. Palm Coast is stuck in the middle between St. Augustine and Daytona- if you prefer "old world charm" you can head north to St. A- if you prefer a wild, exciting, time Daytona Beach is but 45 minutes away. Because PC is a relatively new community to Florida there is a kinda "small-town atmosphere" that can't be rivaled in many other places in Fla

The fishing can be phenomenal- esp for the the Fly-fisherman. Why? PC has tons of white, sandy, flats you can fish, with muddy-bottom canals and creeks nearby too- a variety of bottom and areas you can hit. If your after Redfish, Speck Trout, Flounder, and Snook only Bradenton Fl (The Lagoon) can rival it......

#2. Cedar Key Florida- On the edge of the last "wild" areas of Florida, Steinhatchee to Cedar Key is one of the BEST places in Florida for fishing, (period). Check out this info- http://www.cedarkey.org/

In Florida, getting away from people , (and being "closer to nature") can be difficult. Cedar Key is a small town perfect for the retiree or for someone that wants to start a small restaurant, coffee shop, or art gallery. I consider it paradise.............fresh seafood, art, great fishing- this is my type of heaven. When you die you get to go to heaven or Cedar Key.

I'll see you in CK.

#3. Pensacola Fl- Great (salt & freshwater) fishing! Cross the border into Alabama and you get all the attributes of Florida with the much, much, lower taxes and prices of Alabama. AMAZING surf fishing- esp when using a Fly-rod- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1eP5FX9u9g

Those are my top 3.

The Keys?? As much as I love the Keys, it has become too "commercial" for my taste. It is also extraordinarily expensive EVERYWHERE south of Boca Raton. You can still find deals inland- but, what's the point of living in Fla if you have to drive 1-2 hours to get to the beach? Right?!!

You HAVE to be fairly well-off to make it in the Keys these days....a single-wide trailer home can easily be as much as $100,000! And when the first Hurricane hits and "removes" your trailer your done- Flood insurance is either non-existent or EXTREMELY expensive in South Fl.
Add in the Crime, effect of the market crash on all of Florida, and poor public schools and you can pretty much eliminate living or raising a family south of Miami- it's just not feasible. Unless your rich........

And, of course, if your rich- the world is your oyster.

However, If your dead-set on the Keys, Little Torch and Big Pine may still have some real estate deals available- but not many.

Hope this helps?
