where can i find prices on used bedroom furniture 11 pieces?

Q. I have a 61 yr old painted bedroom set antique white and gold includes a cedar chest , two lamps with bust one female one male; two end tables glass top covers with drawers ;a high boy dresser 6 drawers; a low boy dresser 12 drawers; a wall miiror framed; head board and footboard and rails al made from solid mahogony real wood perfect condition I need to know how much retailers sell for so i can get fair vaule for the set
i'm in philly Pa if that helps I just want ideas of what retailers are seeling similar bedroom sets for I know they are going for at least $2000 as i seen online this is solid wood mahagony with painted finish all brass fittings a real cedar chest that alone is worth at least $500 sure i can just take pictures of it and put it up on craigslist
or put an ad in my local paper but without knowing the retail value i will be cheating myself or price it too high
I really have to say for the 11 pieces at least $1000 total is fair this kind of wood furniture today would cost you $10,000 for a set like this I dont even know how the buyer is going to get it out of here each piece is large and heavy even without drawers in it the cedar chest weighs at least 100 lbs
IF i cannot get at laest $500 for this set then i will sell each piece seperately which is harder to do many people want a matched set
not sepearte pices O well hope for more answers

Answer
Look on the Craigslist or Kijiji listings in your area under "furniture for sale" and see what prices people are posting for old furnishings. Without seeing your set or knowing where you live, it would be hard to exactly assess the value. You could take photos of it to a used furniture or antique dealer in your area and ask what they would buy it from you for. Since they would offer you a wholesale price, you could probably double that to sell directly to an end buyer yourself.

Unfortunately, that age and style of furniture you describe is not very popular any more -- I doubt that you could get more than $400 for the entire set, and then only if it was in perfect condition.

what bedroom computer speakers £200-£300?

Matthew

looked at bose companion 5s, but also audioengine 5s. any other recommendations? this is for quite a small room just for music (a bit of xbox). I dont play music massively loud, I want good sound at lower volumes. Is this kind of money worth it? advice please! thanks.

Answer
First off, Bose is a bit of a rip off. Second, AudioEngine is EXCELLENT for the money. I'm listening to a pair of AudioEngine A2s right now... and I previously owned a Bose Companion 5 system in their place. Needless to say, the Bose system hit the trash.

That said, I would highly highly highly recommend the AudioEngine, however I've heard that their A5s overheat sometimes. This does not cause damage because they automatically turn off, but that can be annoying. The A2s do not have this problem, and it has never happened to me.

What I would recommend instead of the A5s would be AudioEngine's P4s and one of their N22 amplifiers. This way, you get excellent sound, but you don't have to worry about overheating issues. If that is a little pricey, check out other desktop-sized amplifiers like ones from NuForce...

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_773ICOAMPB/Nuforce-Icon-Amp-Black.html?search=Nuforce+VENDORID773&searchdisplay=Nuforce

If you can find an affordable, quality amplifier to put along with AudioEngine's P4s, that would be the better way to go. I'm not saying their A5s are bad, they're excellent... I'm just saying that they tend to overheat sometimes when driven hard and that would annoy me personally. Because you say you don't play your music loud, that may not be an issue, so they might work out after all.

Either way, if you're getting your speakers from AudioEngine, you're getting a winning set of speakers there. My next favorite speaker under AudioEngine would be JBL's Control series of speakers, which are around the same price, and offer sound almost as good as AudioEngine.

Good luck

Also, I mentioned it before, and I'll say it one last time... avoid Bose. All of their stuff is terribly overpriced and underperforms for the price. Remember, I replaced a $400 set of Bose Companion 5 speakers for my $200 AudioEngine A2s... I have heard better sound in a $50 package than what Bose puts out in their "best" speakers.

Is it ok to set up a baby's room in the basement.?

Celine

I have just purchased a new house, but there is nothing done in it (it only has 4 walls and insulation).
My boyfriend and I are creating the floor plan, but there is not enough room for two bedrooms on the main floor. We don't have any children yet, but we were planning on puting a second bedroom in the basement (we are going to finish the whole basement properly and also we are going to install heated floors).

My question is, is it ok to put a baby's room in the basement (when we are going to have children, they will stay in our bedroom up to about 6 months or so)

Thank you !!

Answer
haha of course its fine!
As long as its safe and you purchase a good baby monitor once you move your precious little bundle to his or her own room, you should be alright.

but i would have the baby sleep in your room until around 6 months, because if something was to happen, you wouldn't know it if he was in the basement.

good luck!

My bedroom was in the basement for 10 years.

new style for 13 girl bedroom?

**mikaila*

me and my 9 year old sister share a room and there is a sheet hanging from the roof in the middle of our room dividing our "half"s. my half is 5 feet 3 inches wide, and 11 feet 10 inches long. i am looking for a new style for my bedroom. i dont have that much money. (ok, so no money) what can i do to change the look of my bedroom and make it look cooler for when i have friends over?
umm.. thnx. but when i said i had limeted money, it ment my familey cant aford to buy ANYTHING. thnx for the idea though. i will try and save some money up from babysitting to paint the walls to match my quilt.

Answer
We're the same age :)

Anyways, what I would do is I would ask my mom if she could buy me a new comforter and pillows to match. I would try to show her that I put thought into it, as in go online and search for stores that sell comforter sets and look for the one I want to match the paint on my walls. You can do that, go to store's sites online like JC Penny's or AJmoss and look at the comforters they sell. JC Penny has pretty cheap bedding so your mom wont spend that much, and a little change can make you feel alot better.
Try to change up your bed anyway possible. If your bed leans against a wall, stack the pillows in the middle against the wall, so it looks like a couch or something where you can hang out. Or, if your beds in a corner, bundle the pillows up in a corner and so on.
I really dont know what else to say, but I feel for you! I have to share a bedroom with my sister, and it aint fun! But I'm trying to convince my parents to let me have the computer room :D

Goodluck, hope I helped!

TEENAGER BEDROOM IDEAS?????

Hey, Guess

Ok, I am remodeling my room!!! It has light blue walls, a purple carpet, and a full bed. any ideas? I dont want to paint my walls or change my carpet, but my parents said i could get a wall mural. What theme should i do???????????????????????

Answer
go to http:\\pbteen.com\ if it was me i would get white carpet and paint my walls like a tan and then get sea shells and hot glue them on the bed room furniture and get a white bedroom set bed dresser desk\chair and night stand and i would get beach posters and rugs and bedding i would also get bamboo window shades and get clear see through containers and put sand and sea shells see if you could get a fake pomtree and get beachy lighting and if you go to pbteen.com you can get the bedding posters and rugs but go to bed bath and beyond for the other stuff but if you wanted to do a girly theme like me then i would suggest pink walls clear curtains and pbteen for the furniture it depends on what you like but i would stick with beach theme like im moving next week to a HUGE HUGE home cause my dad works for the president of the USA so i will be redoing my room to but im doing a girly theme but do what you want

Need cheap re decoorating ideas; Teenager bedroom.?

Q. So, my room is kind of small , i have room for a bed, a book shelf a dresser, and a bit of extra room. My walls are this deep yellow color, and i don't think painting is an option. And I don't have much more than 20 $ to spend. Does anyone have any good ideas? I appreciate it.

Answer
There are going to be TONS of sales on dorm room stuff at Sears, Target and Walmart soon-- keep a little cash to invest in one or two great pieces, like a blanket or wall hanging. You can buy removable wall decals at any of the above stores in a variety of colors, patterns, and prices. Find something you LOVE and buy it. You can spend a buck or two buying some craft paint or spray paint to repaint or stencil a similar color or design on something you have or something you find at a garage sale or thrift store cheap. For example, if you find an awesome red and orange circle or dot pattern in decals that would look great with the yellow walls, opt for a can of red spray paint and your trash can, some picture frames (you can buy these for $.25 at a thrift shop) and maybe even your dresser handles or the top of the dresser with red to accent. Then check out stores for a cheap throw blanket on clearance that fits the color scheme. You could also buy a couple yards of thin discount fleece at the fabric store and make a blanket and a throw pillow. Look for someone throwing out old furniture in the trash-- you could spray paint an old metal or wooden chair that is in decent condition for little money and have a great accent piece. Another thing-- you can create your own art on the computer and print it off. Buy some cheap clear contact paper and laminate anything you like and hang by strings and white tacks form the ceiling or use gummy tack and put it on the wall. This is especially easy for geometric patterns.

Think clearance and refab. If you like the color or the pattern and it is cloth, you can always cut it up for curtains or pillow shams or a dresser top runner.

Good luck!

New England Red Sox fans?

Q. Like myself, are you kicking yourself in the butt for NOT going to Jordan's Furniture and buying that living room, dining room, or bedroom set you wanted?

Answer
My wife's been bugging me for a new bedroom set for a while now. I was going to get one at Jordan's, but then I found out that the Monster Deal was wasn't good for entire bedroom sets, just beds.

We'll probably get one from Bob's. They have really good prices and we're very happy with the living room set we got there.

reorganization in my bedroom.?

Me

ok.i have a bunk-bed in my bedroom.it takes up say fraction-wise 4-5ths of my room.this is not including my closet.i will be getting a bedroom set.when you ask.i have no clue.for now i need space and everyone criticizes me of my room looking a mess.i am not a messy person but with no room to clean and place things.what can i do please help.ALL I ASK OFF IS THAT YOU ONLY ANSWER MY QUESTION.AND DO NOT ASK FOR ALL OFF THE MEASUREMENTS AND SUCH. THANKS.please also suggests things that i can purchase that's in-expensive.thanks

Answer
Get rid of the mattress on one of the beds. Take the one you don't sleep on out and replace the mattress with a piece of plywood. Beg, borrow or steal some containers and turn that space into a storage area.

You will probably have enough space there for several large totes and possibly some drawers. This should give you ample storage for extra clothes, toys, and assorted junk.

The cheap way to do this is to use the bottom bunk for storage and find some fabric to hang which will hide the whole mess. This is cheaper because you can save on the storage totes by just getting cheap plastic ones at WalMart. But then you're stuck sleeping on the top bunk...

You can do the same thing to the top bunk, but the expense is more if you want your room to look nice. Nice containers are more expensive than fabrics. However, you can get artsy and find some cheap containers and shelving and try to decorate them so they don't look like you have a pile of totes on the top bunk.

Now, if you're handy with tools, you could curtain off the top bunk completely, throw some boxes up there to store your stuff, and be done with the whole issue...

Good luck

Cute themes for teenage girls bedrooms?

Jordan

I am not a mother tying to find a cute theme for her teenage daughter's bedroom, no this time it's the teen girl that's asking herself. For my birthday this year, my parents are letting me redo my room (with the exception o my furniture). I'm still working on at least getting a new bed, but amongst that I have to figure out how I want to theme my room. I already have a few ideas: a candy shop theme, and a simple purple, blue, and pink theme--my walls are light purple. The candy shop theme came from the fact that I have a jolly rancher pillow and a twizzlers pillow, both from hershey park. I would like more ideas, if you have any...oh and please, no links for answers. You ca give links, but make sure you give your ideas/opinions too!
Thanks in advance for all the creative ideas!

Where can a find a good quality, chocolate brown bedroom set with a modern feel to it?

I am looking for something chocolate brown with a modern feel to it for a king size bed. I've found some nice sets but all were really poorly built. Do they just not make good quality furniture anymore? Please help.

Well she told him she called the car company and told them he had it( a car their recently deceased dad left) two days ago they reoped it in the middle of the night( it had all his school supplies in the trunck) He hasnt said anything to her about it but this morning he calls me all kinds of names, he hates me, when he gets his money(from his dad money he was gonna use to pay off the car) hes gonna leave me etc.. Why wont he take that out on his sister? Iv done nothing to him. Not to mention she already called the bank and told them to freeze his account( him being the benefi he was still able to get it. It all started because she came to our house and saw that we bought new(second hand furniture) before we were sleeping on the floor but nobody said anything about her brand new was/dryer, bedroom set (for her not ger kids that are in need of one) and her ten new pair og hundred dollar jordans wtf is this about really furniture?

Answer
You have an abusive boyfriend who is so bad that you are trying to get a new social security number and name change so you can hide and you end your story being pissed off about furniture?! Who cares how she spent her money? Why did you talk to your boyfriend? He should be blocked or you should have a new Tracphone with a different number that you are using since you claim you want to disappear. You should be not concerned about her ten new pairs of shoes and you should be selling your furniture to help finance your departure.

I think you need to refocus on what you are supposed to be doing and forget about him and his family. If he wants his school books all he has to do is go to the repo company and ask for it back and they will give it to him.

Best furniture companies - bedroom sets?

Trying to buy a high quality bedroom set. Many choices out there. Does anyone have ideas of the best manufacturers to target?

Planning to spend in the $5000-8500 range. Hopefully on the lower end of that. Is that reasonable for a king bed, 2 nightstands, dresser, and chest?

What are good furniture stores for bedroom sets?

Jordyn

I'm moving soon, & my plan is to get rid of everything in my bedroom & starting out clean. I am getting all new furniture for my bedroom, & I need ideas. Any websites to help? Nothing too expensive either. :c
Also, the only website I've actually checked out was Ikea & nothing really caught my eye. & If you know another website that has accessories for bedrooms (sheets, curtains, etc.) than suggest those one too. Thanks!

Answer
All these places sell bedroom suites, but you don't give any indication of your budget or what style you like at all, so can't help with the curtains, sheets etc, but hopefully you'll see something you like on these furniture sites..

Beach themed bedroom! Help!?

Q. Okay so I Have a small room maybe 10ft by 10ft? Not very big at all. But I live in Florida and right now I have no theme to my room. So I wanted to do a simple beach room. Like a room you might find in one of Florida's hotels. I'm thinking about painting my room ocean blue maybe like aqua and I want to do white trim on my closet and etc. I'm also thinking about getting light brown-tan wicker furniture. I have carpet and I'm not aloud to change that, So if you have any other Ideas that would be GREAT! Also i'm going to get a salt water fish tank, and a beach themed bed set. And i was thinking about gluing shells to my walls? I'm going into high school, so I don't want my room to be tacky or childish. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!

Answer
make a sea glass mosaic or just do something with sea glass.
Use a towel as a rug (that might look a little cheap though).
Get paintings of sea creatures.
Get a daylight replacement lamp.
get a collapsible chair (the kind you would see at a beach) and use it in your room.
Use a large bottom half of a sea shell as a soap dish.
Get a blue rug to simulate water.
get a tan bed cover and pillows and a blue blanket.

Bedroom Decorating Dilema?

Ophelia211

I want to set up a beverage center in my bedroom. I'm planning on using a console table, hopefully lucite or glass/metal combination. I'm trying to keep the style glamorous as possible.

My question is how to decorate the top of the "bar" besides the usual water bottles, glasses, etc? Also, what could I put on the wall behind it besides a painting?

My walls are light grey, the bed linens are icy blue-greyish satin and velvet. Throw blanket is taupe fur. Drapes are taupe dupioni silk.

Thanks!
I should have said water bar because that's the only beverage I'm planning on putting out. The dilema is still how to accessorize the table top besides water and glasses.

Answer
Because this is your bedroom the bar should take on a bar/disguised look. there are beautiful boxes that could sit on the bar and hold openers, stir sticks, napkins, cork screw, etc.... on the wall I would go with something very comtempory - almost a conversation piece. maybe a clock within the contemporary art work or lots and lots of same framed mirrors make an awesome back drop. A picnic basket on the floor or next to the bar could also hold extra's such as additional, but not yet opened bottles, mixes, or shot glasses, towels etc... could be stored in the basket. Hope this is helpful

Decorating a bedroom.....?

Trisha

Hi! I need to decorate a bedroom. Its for a 12 year old girl. My question is...How should I decorate it? I mean should it have a theme? What kind of decorations should there be? The walls won't be painted, they are going to stay white. The bed, dresser and chest are a light wooden colour. The colour looks like this...

http://www.furnituredesignideas.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/Wood-Bed-Designs1.jpg

There shouldn't be too much decorating....It should be simple, but it should still bring out some personality. It should be creative and artsy. What kind of pictures should there be? There shouldn't be too many posters..Maybe just 1 or 2.

It would be really helpful if you included some links with designs or furniture...
Thanks everyone! :)

Answer
Hi!
For a 12 year old, you can really do any color. Here are some cute bedspreads from Wal-Mart that are colorful and cute. You can usually find stuff that goes with these, too, so it shouldn't be too hard!

how do i fix my bedroom with not alot of money?

Dana Alsam

my room is pink and frilly. i like rock and skinny jeans and converse and black. how do i redo my room? i dont have much money. so any cheap ideas?

Answer
Look for inexpensive sheets sets that you can turn into a duvet cover (pronounced "do-vay cover", it is a giant pillow case for your blanket. Just do a straight stitch up three sides of two top-sheets and leave the top open, then slip your blanket or comforter inside like a paper into an envelop or pillow into a pillow case You can baste it closed or put on buttons and button holes, but my daughter-in-law just puts the open part at the bottom of the bed), with coordinating color sheets for simple rod-pocket curtains and table cover for the night stand. You like "no frills" so solid colors or bold stripes might be more your style.

You can paint the walls yourself for about $35 in paint, a set of rollers, and one good brush. For decorations, take a photo of your favorite pair of sneakers or jeans, and take the digital photo down to a Kinko's or similar office printing store, and get them to print it up as a poster. It should be about $15, plus another $15 for an inexpensive frame. An alternative would be to spray adhesive onto a piece of foam-core board to mount it and make it easier to hang on the wall.

As far as color, since you like black, be careful that you don't overdo it as a color. If you don't want frilly girly pinkish, remember that going all black would not automatically be the opposite. Going super sophisticated might be the opposite. Clean warm tan on the walls, tones of red(blue, green, purple, or whatever) stripes on the bed and windows, and then a throw rug on the floor that picks up one or more of those colors to complete the look for a relatively small amount.

IF you can sew your own, you can get the sheets for about 8 to 10 dollars for each top sheet. How many you need depends on how many windows, how big your bed is, and so on.

If you can not sew, make a point of cruising second-hand stores. You may or may not be willing to take on second-hand bedding, but you can pick up accent pieces, posters, even rugs or weaving that would work in lieu of a head-board on your bed.

Decorating doesn't have to be expensive. You do have to be willing to be creative rather than getting it all out of a bag already coordinated, or willing to "re-purpose" things. A pair of tiny children's sneakers (I've seen "baby sneakers" at the dollar store) might be just the thing for the pull on a light chain or roller-type curtain, or with a hot-glue gun, could be a new base for a simple desk lamp. If you decide to downplay the Converse and play up the rock and roll, use a sheet of music for your poster - a song relevant to you would be perfect - and look for music themed or guitar or drums items. Drumsticks bound around the base of the lamp, for example, or guitar picks as a border on the lamp shade. Have fun with it!

I need advice on colors for a teen girl's bedroom?

Christine

I'm 17 & I'm getting a new bedroom soon.
I want this color paint:
http://www.sherwin-williams.com/homeowners/color/find-and-explore-colors/paint-colors-by-family/SW6566-framboise/

But I don't know what colors would go with it for a bedspread!
Help?
I'm shopping at pbteen.com but should I look elsewhere for a new bedspread to match this paint?

Answer
That's a nice color but to much of it will be overwhelming a light blue patterned bedspread will work or either a white bedspread with a design on it here are a few things you should look at that I think will match perfectly with your wall color.

This is at pbteen.com:
http://www.pbteen.com/products/suite-dot-quilt-and-sham/?pkey=cpatterned-quilts
(if you get this quilt all of the colors it comes in will match your wall color)

Overstock.com is also a good place to consider but I don't know how much you plan to spend on a bedspread so I'm going to give you a few of the cheapest ideas which are:
1) http://www.overstock.com/Bedding-Bath/Sage-White-8-piece-Comforter-Set/6580366/product.html
2) http://www.overstock.com/Bedding-Bath/Chelsea-Black-White-8-piece-Comforter-Set/6294845/product.html

Those 2 are real nice and will look really nice with your wall paint. If you want to check out more comforters, Overstock.com Has some real nice Comforter sets.

Bedroom makeover ideas!!!?

live,love,

Ok so my mom says I can like 1/2redo my room, as in, not get new furniture but re-decorate. So my bed looks exactly like this: http://www.zedsbeds.com/ekmps/shops/zedsbeds/images/antique-ivory-single-day-bed-63-p.jpg but different sheets and stuff. My furniture (desk, dresser, bookshelf) are white wood but they look kind of antique like my bed, then I have this white chair in a corner. My walls are painted a light sky blue. So basically I was wondering if anyone has any ideas for decorations I could put in my room. Like paintings or rugs or sheets. I also want it to be kind of artsy, so if anyone knows where i could get a stand up painting easel for cheap could you leave the link plz? Ok that's it. Thanks!!!

Answer
This is the mtv cribs for Aly & AJ they have really cool rooms. Watch this for ideas:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yalA7wSmIAA

Look at the colors surrounding you. Blues go well with browns. Whites go well with Blacks. Greys go well with dark reds. Pinks go well with greens.

Try adding new, inexpensive things, like curtains, blankets, lamps, etc.

Hey guys!
My mom is going to try to surprise my dad with a house makeover type thing when he comes home from Iraq, and one thing she's really having trouble with is master bedroom. The comforter set in particular...I was wondering if you could POST A LINK for some comforters, thanks so much! Sorry you have to post a link, but she knows exactly what she wants she just can't find the right one and I want to help! Thanks!

Light Blue, Sage Green, Yellow, maybe a little bit of tan.
We are going to paint the walls sage, so if you think something else might look good with that?
She doesn't want anything really modern or contemporary, something kind of fancy (not toooo fancy though haha) with like a smaller design, not like big flowers or anything.
AND NO STRIPES OR DOTS! thats her least favorite. haha

Is it worth buying a bedroom set from room to go or at an antique thrift store?

Amy

Answer
I am a huge fan of decorating with used and mis-matched furniture. It ultimately will create a room with more character, it will cost less than buying new, it will stand the test of time better, it is more environmentally friendly. I especially like to buy furniture from Craigslist (private party listings, avoid dealers) where you can shop online, or thrift stores or garage sales to get silly low prices. It is also fun to hunt for the items that you want, and it becomes more personal to collect the items.

I bought my "dream" bedroom furniture sets (all matching) about ten years ago. I paid about $15,000 for each bedroom, in solid cherry wood. Now I feel really stuck with boring bedroom furniture. I also have a few pieces of furniture around the house that I bought more than 20 years ago at yard sales under $50 each that I still adore. The yard sale pieces (not antiques) are each interesting on their own, and look good anywhere I put them. Those are the pieces that people give me compliments on when they visit my home. Those are the pieces with personality.

I have a blog at http://jansseninteriors.blogspot.com where I discuss in most posts decorating with used furniture, I show photos of rooms that could be designed with used and eclectic furniture, I discuss using furniture in different ways, painting used furniture, and so on along those lines. There's lots of inspiration there. Just scrolling through the photos should give you some ideas of what you can accomplish.

Sorry for such a long answer, but I have strong feelings on the subject.

a yard sale?

kk

what would you like to be seen sold at a yard sale, and how much would you sell it?

Answer
Common household objects that have use and do not just sit (no trinkets). If they are in great shape then I usually sell them starting around 25%-$30% of their new retail value. If in poor shape then I take what I can get for it, usually starting at 10-15% retail value.

Examples:
Kitchen-Silverware, dishes, pots/pans, glass bakeware small appliances (like mixers) and utensils go quickly.

Bath- hairdryer, hair appliances (curlers etc), candles not burned, soap holder dishes

Living room- furniture, coffee tables, end tables, electronics stuff (live TVs DVDs players and movies,

Kids' rooms- TOYS!!! Also kids clothes usually go well. Baby items are hot--anything-strollers, highchairs, etc etc etc

Bedroom- electronic items, alarm clocks, adult clothes, radios or Cd players, etc

Backyard- old toys, any yard tools that aren't being used.

Misc-- hobby items, such as musical instruments, cameras, train sets, model airplanes, playstation or Xbox, sewing machines or craft kits, scrapbooking supplies like scissors and stamps, sports stuff like bats/balls/gloves, racquets, skates.

I am moving to my first apartment and i need to know where i can get a really nice queen size bedroom set on a students budget. Thank you

Answer
Ikea, or Crate and Barrell. Both are available online. Be sure and check out the measurements in your apartment first though, to make sure all will accomodate. Also, Pier One online has some beautiful headboards at great prices, along with the bed frames. If you have one great piece, such as a beautiful headboard, you can "hunt" for everything else to accent it, like thrift shops, flea markets, or garage sales. Also, The Company Store online has great down comforters at good prices. Have fun and Good Luck!~

What can you tell me about Miami Florida?

GrInD

Me and my friend are planning on moving to Miami Florida in about a 1 yr and a half. We already have the mind set to delete all debt that we may have here where we currently live. Our goal is from now on to save as much money as we can for the expenses of driving down , hotel, food, gas and getting a security depots on an apt and two months rent untill we find jobs. Do you think that this is a good plan and will it help us out in the end? How is it down in Miami, what the adverage for a studio apt or a one bedroom apt thats in an ok neighborhood run ??? Or any other things that might be usefull.. thanks
I am of Latino Desent. I am also moving from northwest Indiana.

Answer
If you are considering moving to this area, you need to do a lot of homework. Miami is not necessarily the best place to move to unless you are Latin or speak Spanish. The areas around the beach are very expensive. You may be better off considering Broward County which is the next county North of Miami/Dade. First get a map of South Florida that includes Miami and Ft. Lauderdale. Go online to the Chamber of Commerce for both and ask them to send you a newcomer's package. Invest in a subscription to the Miami Herald or Sun-Sentinel News Paper or you can go online to them and sign up for a daily newsletter. You should also go to Realtor.com to check out apartment rentals in each area you are considering and also check out the employment ads.

When you are ready to take the big step, find a hotel that has weekly rentals with Kitchens, sometimes referred to as executive suite hotels When you find one, make sure it's in a safe area. Avoid moving in the winter months, hotels are much more expensive at that time.

six deep scratches on drawer set i bought a bedroom set at ashley furniture four years ago?

gato

hello how can i repair six deep scratches on top of drawer set which is new and untouched i had in extra bedroom even have tags still on it but i put stuffed animal on it it was mechanical penguin so it may have gotten hot and took either paint or finish off drawer i tried crayons to fill in it didnt work should i try to repair it or call a professional any suggestions thank you

Answer
Try the following. It will take some time and carefulness, but it should help. Materials needed: rubbing alcohol, colored woodfillers, craft sticks or plastic knives, light-tack painter's tape, rottenstone, clear tung oil, manicurist's emeryboards (rough, smooth, super-fine) clean, soft, lint-free rags.
1) Use alcohol on cotton swabs to completely remove all crayon. 2) Use strips of extremely light-tackiness painters tape to mask off both edges of the scratches. 3) get quality brand wood filler (Minwax, Elmers) in shades as close as possible to the color of the drawer. Buy 2 or 3 shades with the red, yellow, brown values of the wood as you will need to mix them together. Using wood craft sticks or plastic knives mix up tiny batches of wood filler, combining the colors until you get one that is as close as possible to the shade of your furniture. 4) With a rag wettened with alcohol, slightly dampen each scratch (helps wood filler adhere) and using the craft stick or plastic knife like a putty knife, press a small amount of wood filler into each scratch, slightly under-filling each. 5. Let dry per instructions on wood filler. 6. Second coat each scratch with wood filler (no alcohol this time) until filled scratch is even with adjoining surface. 7) Let cure to "sanding time" per instructions on wood filler. 8) Use a manicurist's emery boards, start with rough, then smooth, then super-fine, to sand smooth (go in direction of scratch, g-e-n-t-l-y) until filled scratch feels almost as smooth as the furniture. 9) Mix up a small amount (1/4 cup) of rottenstone (available in small boxes in furniture finishing section of big box stores) with clear tung oil (Formby's or Dansk) and rub in direction of scratches. 10) remove masking tape and polish entire drawer front with rottenstone/tung oil compound. Wipe off excess with soft dry cloth.

White Fine Furniture (brand) bedroom set?

Steven F

My girlfriend is in the process of trying to sell some of the furniture that was in her moms house. She already sold her bedroom set for a few hundred dollars but her mothers bedroom set seems to be of a much higher quality and we are unsure as to what is is worth. The matched medium stained bedroom set is made by White Fine Furniture and includes 2 dressers 2 night stands and a headboard with book storage. All of it is very heavy telling me that it is a hard wood but I am unsure what wood it is. The quality of this stuff seems very high and most of the hinges are heavy piano style and the drawers have a nice heavy but smooth pull action to them. The set is 100% unscratched anywhere and in perfect condition. I did a little research via wiki on the company but finding any real info on the furniture they made is very difficult because of the name âWhiteâ just brings up white colored bedroom sets. Without seeing this set can you give me any idea at all what it may be worth given this info?
Yeah....that is what I did as per my comments on reading about the company on wiki.

Answer
I did a Yahoo! search for "White Fine Furniture Company" and came up with 98 results. By using the quotation marks in the search box, you will only get results that contain those four words in that exact order. Here is a link to a wiki article on the company:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_furniture_company

I'm betting that if you do the same search, you will find plenty of information that will lead to a reasonable estimate of value.

Good luck with your search for information.

Any good bedroom ideas?

proud pare

my parents are redoing my room for my birthday. first of all im a guy, i dont like leather or fur or anything that comes from animals. I also like the urban outfitters apartment stuff. i really love the color of this bed:

any color ideas for walls, and links to furniture is greatly appreciated.

all i really want is a bed, a bed side table and maybe a small couch or bean bag chair.

i would appreciate it if all the ideas you give me all go together, not just random pieces of furniture

if the link doesnt work just copy and paste it : )

Ok well I want a theme that would fit my personality. My room so far has white walls(I can paint it light colours of get wallpaper) and cream carpet(it has a square pattern in it and I can't change the carpet) .

Anyway I want a theme that fits my personality:
I am quiet and shy but have a wild side as well...I love waterfalls and tranquil(sp) settings and fire...I love magical things as well...I know it's not detailed but I was woundering what theme style would fit my personality as well as some of the things I should get???

How about a Renaissance/Camelot inspired room? Get posters/artwork that shows castles, kings, queens, etc:

Tapestries:

Bedding with brocade designs - what you would imagine to see in a mediavel castle:

Since you mention you like waterfalls, then maybe get one:

A wallpaper that looks like stone would complete the look:

But a floral would look quite nice, too:

Bedroom Set!!!?

lovinmommi
