Thanks
I am looking on the Ralph Lauren site. Do you have the name of the brownish gold color?
I found it thanks. Well my room is a master bedroom in a condo. I don't think its that big so maybe I should choose a lighter color.

Answer
Mushroom. It's a great color and goes with just about everything, but especially with dark brown wood. My friends have it throughout their home.

I need color advice please :)What color should I paint my Master Bedroom/ bathroom?

LA

I can't decide what color to paint my maser bedroom and bathroom. I have black furniture with a gray/black/ white quilt set, silvery gray curtains and my master bath has black/white/gray shower curtain. I need a splash of color on the walls but want something that won't have to be repainted when we move out and will look good for resale. Any ideas? I put about 40 shades of purple against everything none of them looked good. Thanks for any advice:)

Answer
At this point I don't think I would really add any colors other than accent pieces. A burgundy/maroon accent - pillows, blanket across the foot of the bed, and area rugs with a hint of the black/grey and burgundy(or whatever color you choice). Stick w/a white wall that has a slight tint of silver/grey in it. Check the free paint chips. To be sure you are going to be happy with the color tape the sample to the wall, moving it from wall to wall different times of the day so you can see how it looks in different light.
Also, to give a punch of color to the wall: Purchase a black metal curtain rod (one w/a design at the ends) With a ribbon to match your accent peices hang two/three pictures from the rod, wrapping the ribbon around the rod in a bow. You could also hang a wreath between the pictures - or wrap vine w/berries around the rod - hang them at different heights. I hope I explained this well enough for you to understand it! It really does look nice. Remember to use any accent color at least three times in a room.
If you want to use purple go toward the purple/grey shades.
Red - you could use it as long as you didn't splash it all over the rm.

Teenage Girl Bedroom Ideas?

Katie

im allowed my bedroom done out because mine is very pink and girly, but i need some ideas on what to do? i love the shabby chic style and i love cath kidston and cute things but i dont want it to look two young. my style is vintagey but i want something soft, relaxing and sophisticated. Any ideas on colour, patterns, wallpapers etc etc :)? Thanks in advance!

Answer
I would recommend some of these colors together....
1 - RMS user isabellaandmaxrooms updated this girls' bedroom with mature furnishings and a soft, feminine color palette. Classic white furniture and an elegant chandelier present a timeless look that she'll love for years to come.
2 - For the modern girl, clean lines and bold hues work best. The varying shades of green, white and blue create a dynamic space in this bedroom. For a minimalist effect, replace bulky decor with sleek, space-conserving pieces, like this lamp/nightstand combination.
3 - The antique chandelier, mirrored nightstands and graphic wallpaper bring an adult style to this teenage girls' bedroom. For added edge, various patterns and textures were used throughout the space, from the area rug to the window treatments. The pink accent wall and apple-green headboard break up the classic black and white theme and provide a playful use of color.
4 - Black and white mixed with honeysuckle and pale green accents deliver a modern and glamorous look with a youthful flair. Sheer white curtains and soft, curved furniture bring in a feminine touch, perfect for any growing girl.
5 - Nothing says playful quite like a rainbow of colors. This bedroom keeps the furnishings simple and white, allowing the striped wall and vibrant bedding to take center stage. White accessories provide a sharp contrast for a clean and contemporary look.
6 - Gray is making a stylish comeback, and yellow is a gorgeous accompaniment for the soft hue. Sleek furnishings and modern accessories call for a bold addition, like the black-and-white striped area rug that looks right at home beneath a small ghost chair.
7 - Shades of black, white and red combine to form a childlike space with modern appeal. Clean lines and a smooth, white backdrop allow these basic hues to stand out for a bold and dramatic effect.
8 - RMS user hopecarlton turned two small bedrooms into one large, stylish teenage suite. Adjacent to the grand canopy bed, a small seating area provides extra space for entertaining friends or watching TV. Metallic accessories and furnishings deliver a glamorous accent to chocolate-brown and various shades of blue.

Hope it helps for you.

bedroom ideas for a teen?

im 14 and redoing my room and need some ideas. any??

Answer
When decorating a bedroom your bed should be the focal point of the room and use your bedding to choose the colors for your room. If you're getting a new bedspread/comforter buy it first, then choose a specific color in your bedding and paint the walls a light shade of that color.
To make your room look neat, brighter and appear larger arrange your room in separate areas with lighting for each area, light cool colored walls coordinating colors in bedding, artwork and accents. Let in as much natural light as possible.
Center your bed with the headboard against a large wall or between two windows with a nightstand and lamp or hanging lantern, place your entertainment unit or dresser on the opposite wall across from the footboard, (unless it blocks a window) if you have two dressers place them on adjoining walls close together, put your desk under a window or in a far corner, a mirrored vanity table and chair on the other side of the room, if your friends come over to hang out and your room is big enough, set up a gaming area with gaming unit, tv, and a small table (or entertainment unit or armoire) with a couple of bean bags or low chairs.
Make sure furniture doesn't block opening doors or pathways.
http://asianideas.com/lanterns2.html <scroll down
When decorating, group framed photos or nature pics, a large colorful painting or poster on a spacious wall, hang a mirror so it reflects the outdoors or lean a full length mirror against a wall, display collectibles/figurines on shelves, hang candle wall sconces and place candles in different sizes/colors, a leafy potted plant or hanging plant in front of a window.
http://www.target.com/gp/search/187-0732701-7983810?field-keywords=set+candle+wall+sconces&url=index%3Dtarget&ref=sr_bx_1_1&x=0&y=0

On your desk use a jar or glass for pens/pencils and markers, stack game disks/cd's, throw away scrap paper and store papers you want to keep in a plastic bin, be sure you have a wastebasket and hamper, go through your closet and dresser, any clothes that are faded, torn, don't fit or wear throw away or donate, fold, hang and arrange neatly, put clothes for winter and what you only wear occasionally to the back and use shelves and/or add a small storage unit to keep everything organized and clutter free.

You can make a pin board to hang above your desk.
Cut a large square or rectangle out of box cardboard, about the size of a cork board.
To make the hanger, punch two holes 1/2 inch apart 1 inch from the top in the center, thread the ends of a twisty tie (the paper covered wire used to close bread) thru the holes, twist at the back, make a loop and twist the ends.
Cut a piece of fabric 2 inches larger than the cardboard
(you could use an old shirt or sweater or a shirt with a cool design/fav band)
Lay cardboard on top of fabric and wrap to the back like a present and pin.
http://www.singermachines.co.uk/access_images/pins.jpg

A picture collage
Cut out any shape out of thin cardboard. (a cereal box works great)
Then make the hanger as above.
Use a glue stick or a small drop of glue for each pic, you can arrange the pics side by side or overlapping.
Or group framed pics.
Best to arrange on the floor with largest pic in the middle before hanging.
Or a multi-pic frame

I dont think i shut the Ouijia Board correctly and now i feel a presence, someone watching me in my bedroom..?

the Oujia Board was done on my 16th birthday, we set out just to scare my friend at first and moving the glass ourselfs but then the glass started to move without us doing it, i expected my friend Jordan to be moving it so we told him to stop playing but it was moving and i got really scared and scrunched it up (it was home made) ever after using the ouijia board i have been feeling a really strange presence, its like someone is staring at me in my bedroom (where the ouijia board was played) but i dont know where im getting stared at from its all around the room.. A few weeks ago i was babysitting for my friend and unexplainable noises were coming from the baby monitor, creeking like someone was walking around the room.. but the baby was in the cot and i was the only other person in the house (well i think) I heard a growl type noice but im sure it was a voice.. i recorded it on my ipod because i knew noone would belive me, im babysitting in that house again tonight, any tips or do you think i have something/someone following me, a spirit? please write back as soon as possible

Answer
im no expert, so you should go to your parent or guardian, & to your church priest or pastor. from experience, i pray "In Jesus Christ's name, i reject you, i rebuke & send you back to where you came from. Jesus Christ, i trust in you. Almighty God & Father, in Jesus Christ's name, Save me, Protect me, cover me with the Precious Blood & Water of Jesus Christ. i am truly sorry for my sins, for the wrong that i've done, pls forgive me. Save me Father from all evil & sin. Jesus Christ, i trust in you ..." you have to be STRONG & POSITIVE IN JESUS CHRIST. alone we can do nothing. do not attempt to communicate with the presence, for there is a chance that it is evil - so why risk it? your hate, your sins & your fear will strengthen the evil around you. just as your love, your forgiveness/compassion & your courage will strengthen God's hold on you. God Bless you!!

Answer
I'm not familiar with your part of the country, so the best I can do is advise that you check out the thrift stores, used furniture stores and resale/consignment shops in your area. A lot of times, you can find whole sets/suites (dining room, bedroom) in good condition for very reasonable prices. Often times, you can also find matched sets of lamps as well. Make sure that you bring a light bulb with you to test lamps.

Should you decide to go this route, one thing I will advise that you do is to purchase your mattress sets new and consider protecting your investments with the bed bug protection mattress covers - one each mattress and box spring. While they can be a bit on the pricey side for the bigger sized beds (queen, king), it is well worth the expense to prevent an infestation where you lose all of your upholstered furniture, beds and carpeting and have to start over again from scratch (no pun intended).

Any ideas for adding color to a bedroom?

Dana

I bought this black and white comforter set recently for my bedroom. I just realized that I have a white rug that was going in the bedroom as well. The walls are also white and I can't paint. Do you have any ideas on bringing some color into the room?

This is a picture of the comforter. It's double sided.
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n79/danish_019/0008180617437_AV1_500X500.jpg

Answer
You can break up the color by adding colorful vases with bright flowers (either real or fake) and setting them everywhere. Take the color that you used for the vase and get throw pillows of the same color. You could also add wall paintings or decorative items with that theme color.

It will end up pretty unique since it will be a very white and black room with a shot of color!

Good luck (:

I need ideas for coffee tables?

MariChelit

I'm getting ready to move into our first home and I really want to give my house personality. We have a great color scheme picked out throughout the house already, and I already have a living room set. What I want now is ideas for DIY end tables and a coffee table. I want something with personality, character. i dont want to spend $200 on standard tables that are made by the hundreds. I want something unique.

Our living room will be an eggshell/toupe color
http://cdn.decorpad.com/photos/2008/05/20/8cbceb7f5d78.jpg
with one accent wall in a chocolate color with a wall stencil design throughout.
http://st.houzz.com/simages/30412_0_8-2146-traditional-bedroom.jpg
our sofa set is a chocolate brown color with pillow backs kind of like the one in this picture:
http://www.morfurniture.com/c_detail.aspx?ID=596&CatID=28&Group=10

besides the living room set that we already own and the colors that we picked for the living room, we dont have any other design element or idea for the living room so for the coffee tables and side tables anything goes.

Give me any all ideas you may have for DIY coffee tables and end tables. I'm willing to make my own, redesign something found at a thrift shop or garage sale, anything. But I'm having a creativity block and I cant think up any ideas.

Bedroom ideas for 3 boys?

J

My three sons are going to be sharing one bedroom. They are aged 6 1/2, 4 and 4. The bedroom that is going to be theirs is pretty large (14-4tf X 12ft) and has a bathroom and a large closet. Does anyone have any ideas on how to organize and arrange the three kids in one room? I would to give them some space away from each other. Any themes are appreciated as well. Thanks!
I'm going to put this question in the parenting section too, in case anyone has ever been in my situation.

Answer
I like the idea of two sets of twin bunk beds, also. In particular, this is better than:

-three separate beds eating all your floor space.
-a double on bottom, twin on top bunk that would sleep all of them now but they can't stay this way for long...how long can two boys sleep together in a double bed?
-a loft-type system that can be dangerous if you don't execute it properly, and expensive if you buy a kit or have it done professionally.
-PLUS you get room for a buddy to sleep over.
-AND you have room for the twins to be at ground level and your older son to be up top like the big boy he is. As they grow up and top bunk is more inconvenient than cool, and anyone can be up there safely, they can rotate the sleeping arrangements.

As for storage spaces, I would say like with the beds, you need to go up where you can. Just don't put things so high that kids can't safely reach and do for themselves. As they get taller and more coordinated you will have more freedom to build up.

I don't know how you feel about individuality and where you draw the lines. I think each kid should definitely be allowed his own things, and personality, of course this is true. But you might consider some things community property to be stored together and shared among them...some of their toys and books and media, more expensive stuff like their TV and game systems and maybe some sports equipment...

One thing I would do if I had three young boys that close in age is extend this principle to socks and maybe even underwear too. I would gather up every one of their current socks and toss them out...and replace them with 50-60 or so pairs of IDENTICAL cheap white socks for them all to share. Keep dirty in the bathroom in a big roughtote or maybe even a kitchen style wastebasket with a swinging lid, labelled boys whites...wash them all together once a week in hot with bleach to keep them sanitary and bright...dump them unfolded into another container for storage of clean. This eliminates the drama of pairing up socks and sorting among people, and the waste if any get ruined or go missing. You might keep another (smaller) collection of identical black dress socks. Clean out and replace everything every year, maybe in the spring when you are spring cleaning and organizing, and when you aren't already saddled with back to school expenses or holiday gifts. This might be a hundred dollars or so expense every year. A small price to pay for such convenience all year. I think you can get at least another five years out of the collective sock arrangement. You might have to abandon the underwear clause a little sooner hahahh.

As for decor, I would go with a larger theme for the room, and each kids personal things...their dresser, their desk, their backpack, can be done in a particular element of that theme to both express themselves and distinguish their stuff. A bit like color coding but a little more descriptive I guess.

Animal themes abound...could do the room in the big theme and each kid decorates their stuff with an animal...you could do farm (duck, goat, horse) pets (dog, cat, hamster) dinosaurs (bronto, stego, pterydactyl) bugs (grasshopper, spider, bee) zoo (zebra, elephant, giraffe) etc. You could do sports...do the room to look like a stadium or locker room or sportscasters studio, or hang jerseys and display sports equipment. Each kid gets a separate team...or same sport, each kid rocks pro-college-their school, or each kid decorates with a different sport. You could do music...album covers or music notes, etc...and each kid gets a different singer or band or rapper, or each kid gets a different instrument. You could do games...decorate with vintage game boards, and get lamps and furniture that resemble game pieces. Each kid could be cards, dominoes, and dice. You could do a cartoon room...each kid decorates with a different cartoon. Or do a Disney room and each kid gets a different character. You could do bright colors and everyone gets a different shape...circles, squares, triangles.

Bedroom Curtain Question?!?

cindapea

In our bedroom we have a doube window. I was looking at these curtians to match the bedroom set I want to buy and they have the two pannels and you have to buy the valence seperate. My question is, with our double window should we order 2 or 4 of the panels and 1 or 2 valences? So per 2 panels we would order 1 valence? I hope this makes sense to someone! I need help! Thanks in advance! ~Lisa
https://www.designerlinensoutlet.com/store/product1.asp?SID=1&Product_ID=107792&ProdName=Liz-Claiborne-Penelope-Rod-Pocket-Window-Panel This is the curtain and valance I am going to be buying..

Answer
When you say you have double windows, do you mean that you have two windows, side by side?
If so, it just depends on the look that you want.
It also depends on the length of the window combined and the length of the valance.

Same thing with the panels.
If you want the curtains to stay closed and cover the window, two panels total may work. But, if you want to create a look that shows there are two windows and you would like to open the curtains through the day, buy 4 panels total.

I hope this helps!!

Veneer chipped and cracked on antique bedroom set, what should I do?

Jen R

I recently purchased an antique bedroom set online, when it arrived I was shocked to find that the veneer is cracked, bubbled, chipped, broken, you name it, it has real wood underneath, I was wondering if there is a way to take the veneer off and sand and finish the wood underneath.

I do not want to return the set, I got a really good deal on it for it being antique and I love the style, I am very crafty and do not have the money to pay a professional, so I need advice on doing it myself.

Is there a way to repair the veneer? Or am I better of stripping it and redoing it, If so how do I do that, also, only the drawers are veneer, the top is and bed are varnished and I plan on stripping them and redoing them, but I don't know much about veneer!! HELP!

Answer
There are various things going on here. Is there a way you can get a photo online to look at. It would be easier to help you that way. A few suggestions in the meantime.

If it is truly antique, then maybe you will be destroying alot of value if you strip and refinish the piece.

Is the actual veneer cracked, missing pieces, etc, or is it just the finish that is damaged?

Removal of the veneer might be easy. By placing a hot iron on the veneer, put a damp cloth between the iron and the wood, the heat should reactivate the glue (if the glue is hide or PVA glue, but not contact cement) making it easier to remove.

I need help I am about to redecorate my room but I don't know what color to paint my room. I want to work around the bedding I bought a couple months ago. It kind of looks like these images:

So if you can help me I will appreciate it very much.
Alright from some of the ideas I am getting. I am think to paint three of the walls a nice gray color but my focal wall pink ** don't know what color pink yet**. What do you guys think??
do you think I should paint the ceiling or should I leave it white??
The web says the sheets r red but it is more of a dark pink very cute it adds color to the room. Just to let youknow I am 23 so I want it to not too teeny bopper LOL

Answer
Since it looks like you're going with black, white and hot pink I think you need to paint your walls a light shade of pink or even a shade of gray. Here are some pics that might inspire you:

Pale pink would look great, but if you decide you want a change and your walls are gray you can always change your sheets and accents to an icy blue or turquoise for a whole new look.

Good luck and hope this helped!

Vintage black bedroom?

Deanna

I am extremely set on painting my bedroom black, but with a vintage, old-timey feel instead of gothic. Any good ideas/tips for this? I need ideas for accents as well.
On a side note: I am fully aware of consequences that come with a black wall!

Answer
Hi, How about going for a soft grey wall as an accent colour, and displaying old black and white or sepia photographs of glamorous movie stars. A vintage dressing table painted in white, adorned with old perfume bottles, and a jewelerry mannequin for displaying all of your sparkly bits will finish the look perfecly. A gorgeous white or silver faux fur thrown across the bottom of your bed will add a bit of warmth and luxury to the theme.

Does this kind of bed need a box spring plus mattress?

Wanda K

If I get this kind of bed frame do I add just a mattress OR do I add mattress plus box spring?

http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/furnitureandhomedecor/furniturebyroom/bedroommaster/beds/PRD~632153/Naples+Queen+Headboard+and+Nightstand.jsp

Answer
If it is a true "platform" bed, then it does NOT require a box spring. I have one, trust me. It will make it too high and ruin the look. A box spring is not necessary. They came out with those in the 50's when bed frames had no support in the center. It was needed then--it is not with a platform bed. They sell them still for those frames but mostly because Americans are so used to it and it is a BIG money maker. Most European beds are not like this. What you need to know:

A platform bed does not have "slats" like the other guy said. It has a full base to support the mattress. (Like a futon has.)

You will need though a extra deep mattress, at least 13".

The sales person WILL try to talk you into a mattress/box springs set. They ALL DID me. They will give you some BS that it actually costs less blah, blah.

They do make a "less deep" box springs that are only about 5" to better fit a platform bed. This is a complete waste of money. Don't buy into that.

Base on these pictures, the mattress is not setting down into the frame. It appears to sit ontop the platform because you can see the bedding is tucked in. Call or go see it in person. If the platform is level with the side--it's a platform.

I read ALL about this when I bought my bed and sales people tried to convince me to buy both. I didn't and my bed looks and sleeps wonderfully.

EDIT One other sales tactic is they will tell you that not using the box spring will "invalidate" your warranty. I have never needed a stupid warranty on a mattress nor has anyoneI have ever know. SCAM.

OMG that photo does NOT show a box spring!!!!!!!! It is a deep 17" (at least) mattress! Dude do you put your crib sheet over both your mattress and box springs? NO! Do you see a break in the sheet? NO!

Refinishing wood furniture?

strawberry

I have a white painted bedroom set that was mine when I was a little girl (I'm 28) before that it was my Moms. I'm having a baby now, well in december and would like to update it and keep it in the family. It is a bit worse for wear, for a long time it was the guest room furniture.
I would like to be able to sand the white paint off and then stain the wood a natural color. Any one know how long it may take and what I need to do? Is it something I should just get a professional to do? Cost and time wise what may be better?
thanks for your help!
thanks - BTW, hoping to get teh boyfriend to do it, not good for me and the baby...

Answer
hi Mary:
it's good to see that people are thinking about Furniture Restoration more and more these days. you are right to take a look at the furniture with an eye towards putting it back in service, especially if you've got a good story to go along with it like you do. Let's walk through an evaluation just make sure they were on the same page. As I understand it, you have a nice set that's been your family for quite a while, prior to you, your mom used it, you like it, and you want to put into service in your new baby's room with the idea that you're going to be continuing a family legacy.

With that in mind, there are a few things to take into consideration. First of all is the sentimental value and importance of being connected to our families. Having pieces around the house that we can talk about with our kids can be a really great way for them to grow a feeling that they have "roots". I've got several pieces that I hold dear that were once owned by departed family members, adding that stuff around reminds me of them and stories that I know the bless my heart of hearts of those in my family.

So with regard to your family's legacy and the importance of teaching and carrying on in that respect it's not possible actually quantify a value other than to say it may be one of the more important things to consider. Every week I talk with people who want to restore things for the exact reason I just talked about, and although it never really say it out loud, I can tell, that they wonder if that's a good enough reason to spend the time and effort on a project. You probably tell by what I've just said that I certainly think it is.

Second phase and evaluation is the serviceability that the items will provide. Simply stated, give a place to use the stuff? And if you do, if it wasn't available to, which after purchase pieces similar to fill that use? Given that you need some furniture for the baby's room I would say you probably would.

And thirdly would be the construction and materials that the items are made from. From your description I'm not sure whether these pieces were originally finished in a wood tone, or if they've always been painted even from the factory.

That might be some knowledge that would be worth spending a little time to find out. Typically, older pieces of furniture were constructed of better materials than you find in furniture today.

One of the reasons for that, is that furniture manufacturers have spent most of the time in the research and development trying to figure out how to make things that they can sell for less money, and in that endeavor have discovered all kinds of things that they can make furniture out of that hitherto for were not known.

Stuff like, plastic, medium density fiber core, particle board, and a whole host of other stuff that would make old-school cabinetmakers uncomfortable. So go ahead and pull out the drawers and take a look at how it looks inside.

If the drawers have wooden slides, if they have dovetail construction, but they still operate well after all this time, chances are it's a pretty good deal. On the inside you might actually be able to get a little bit of a hint about the original finish too. A lot of times you can see overspray or some evidence of an other finish in there.

After you evaluate your potential project and determined that you still want to continue now we can talk about how long it will take or how much it will cost.

With regard to the actual work, there are health concerns that you want to be aware of before you even begin. Up until recently almost all paint contained lead. Let us highly toxic and attacks the nervous system in ways that are not very good. It's not like a lot of other toxins you might come in contact with in your life that your body can metabolize and eliminate. Lead sticks around in your system and stealthily steals away your health. I know this from firsthand experience with family members, take it seriously but don't be paranoid just be careful not to breathe or consume any dust that you make.

That's another reason why sanding paint as a method of removal is not a very good idea. Usually a proper chemical stripper "another health concern" is a better idea. remember to ventilate well and stay away from the stuff when you're pregnant.

If one of the pieces that you have is a chest of drawers this is what you can expect on that particular piece.
1. get some kind of container and remove all the hardware handles and any other kinds of metal that you can remove and stow them away till you finish the project.

2. Take all the components and separate them, what that means is, take out the drawers and treat each one is a separate part.

3. Get some paint stripper from the store all your directions as to how to handle a particular product. It will go something like this. In glass or plastic container that's compatible with the stripper. Pour some stripper into your container and prepar

Refinishing Old Oak Bedroom Furniture ..help!?

Amy B

I'm a 20 year old girl (I like modern and bohemian themed rooms) that is opting to switch my new oversized bedroom furniture with older furniture (that actually fits in my room) from my guest bedroom...The only problem is that the furniture is this hideous 80's style oak furniture with lots of curlicues, cheesy faux-marble (i think its plastic) and frost mirror finishing. I'm thinking of refinishing it with my Dad, but I don't have a lot of experience..(he's decent with power tools). Any ideas to refinish/remodel it ..and overall change it? Or should I just give up now, and keep the oversized new furniture?

Answer
That sounds like a lot of work and like it will be hard to visualize the results.

I suggest looking in thrift stores and want ads for a new set of used furniture and then painting it.

I got a nifty 50's oak bedroom set from a thrift store for $50 and painted it two different shades of blue. Anyone can paint and then you have a better idea of what your results will look like.

bedroom ideas....?

i have a light cherry furniture set. its a bit girly, with gold handles and stuff. i want to redo my room. i like simple, elegant, classy, contemporary stuff, and its more of an antique/country style.
i can't get rid of it, i have to work around it. any ideas for color schemes and stuff? anything goes really. altought i like black and white photogprahy and have it all over my room rihgt now.
in fact, i just likle black and white in general. :)

Answer
Paint your walls a light gray or khaki/gray, do the black and white photography, and buy replacement hardware for your cherry furniture in brushed nickel. Most drawer pulls and knobs are $2-$5 each, so it's a cheap way to update from the gold. They are available almost everywhere - Target has some good ones, as well as Menards, Lowes, Home Depot, etc. Choose an accent color (I recommend a deep red) and add it in places like a decorative pillow on the bed and a black & white vase with red flowers in it. Maybe red candles, too.

Teen bedroom ideas?

I really need to redo my room because it doesnt match my personality. It's pink and green and girly and I used to like it but now I hate it. I wanted to do a theme where I put up paintings of the eiffel tower, big ben, and other European monuments, but I don't know what color to paint the walls or what my bed cover should look like. Please help me! thanks!

Answer
I would paint the walls a light sky blue, hang all black and white photography in black frames, and use a plain white or black and white comforter set with accent pillows like these:

how should i decorate my room?

Rachel S

I have the attic bedroom in a 110 year old house so saying it looks old is an understatement.
I have a newer bedroom set, an old wingback chair, and a bar stool..
does anybody have some ideas on how I can make my bedroom look better without buying new furniture? I have no money to fix it up, so saying "paint the room", "buy new furniture", etc is unrealistic for me. I appreciate all helpful answers.

Answer
It might be a good idea to put your dresser next to your night stand on the same wall as your headboard. Then put your wing back chair in the corner adjacent to your door. This will open up the room and give it an airyness that causes a youthful feeling to the room. Hope this helps.

Where can I find a grown up lookin twin bed?

Miki

My mom has wanted a twin bed that will be easier for her to take care of for a few years now but most of the ones I see are either too low or very evident that it was meant for a child. I want to redo her whole bedroom while she is visiting her sister's family for thanksgiving.

I already bought the bedding http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?sku=17265237& and need to find a bed that will go with this. I think espresso would look nice with the light colored bedding.

Answer
This looks nice if you are willing to buy the whole set. I hope you mom likes her gift :)

I recently found out Storehouse went out of business. I've always been planning to add on some bedroom pieces, but now I'm out of luck! Does anyone know of a store that would sell similar furniture? I know Rowe has comparable sofas, but I'm looking for bedroom furniture. My set is the Java collection (espresso finish).

I need to know things about Disney World!?

liddie9999

I need to know everything! I really want to know! I want to ride the rides, from Dumbo to Tower of Terror! I want to see the characters, everything! Also, do you know anything about the hotel prices, or the park hours? What rides are really long waits that you should do earlier in the day? Any must-sees? By the way- that is Disney WORLD not Disney LAND. (Disney world is inFlorida)

Answer
What a great question!

A lot of people go down to Disney World completely unprepared. I have been there 17 times in the last 13 years, because that is how old I am, so I couldn't have gone much more. I love Disney World and think of it as my home. I go at least once every school if not more.

What I normally do first with my family is to figure out when I am going and where I am staying. I would highly suggest staying on Disney Property. Below is a list of the resorts on disney property.

ON PROPERTY DISNEY WORLD RESORTS:
Value Disney World Hotels:
All-Star Movies
All-Star music
All-Star Sports
Pop Century Resort
Animal Kingdom Lodge
Beach Club Resort
Boardwalk Inn
Contemporary Resort
Grand Floridian Resort
Polynesian Resort
Swan & Dolphin (not Disney owned)
Wilderness Lodge
Yacht Club Resort
Caribbean Beach
Coronado Springs
Port Orleans Riverside
Port Orleans French Quarter
Animal Kingdom Lodge Villas
Beach Club Villas
Boardwalk Villas
Old Key West Resort
Wilderness Lodge Villas
Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa
Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground

I myself normally stay at Old Key West resort which is modeled after Key West, Florida. I also love Animal Kingdom Lodge, which has its own little Plains in Africa. With real animals and a lot of culture, this is one of the really great resorts. Some of the resorts are expensive. This is why I really like Old Key West resort. It is not all that expensive and it is one of the most cosy resorts. It mostly depends on how many people are going. If not many are in your party (1-3) I would suggest a studio room. If you have a moderate party (2-5) I would suggest a one bedroom room. If you have a large party (3-6) I would suggest a two bedroom room. Now if you have a very large party (1-10) the best thing to do is get a three room room. Now the three room gets to be very expensive, but works best if you have a very large party. Now one person could stay in any of the rooms, but if you are going by your self, get a studio or 1 bedroom. At Old Key West, if you have a studio, you get a small kitchen with a microwave, toaster, mini fridge, and coffee maker. A small bathroom with a tub/shower, sink, and toilet. And a bedroom/living room with a bed, couch/pullout bed, desk, and a couple chairs. A one bedroom includes a bedroom( king size bed, chair, Tv), double bathroom(one with a toilet, shower, and sink, and the other with a sink and bathtub), a living room/kitchen(full kitchen with a full size fridge/freezer, sink, dishwasher, island coutertop, and full set of dishes perfect for cooking al most any thing, and a living room with a couch/pullout bed, chair) and normally a balcony or deck with a set of plastic furniture. I have not stayed in a two bedroom or three bedroom, but they are both very spacy.

After we have figured out where we are staying, we figure out where we are eating. Picking out your places to eat is one of the most important things. You can almost never get into a sitdown Restaurant without a reservation. My suggestion is to have one sit-down meal and one counter-service meal a day. This works best as sit-down meals can be expensive. All of the food at Disney World is fantastic! I can't give a higher review of food anywhere. A list of all the places you can go to eat is below.

Help finding a Bourbon Street style lamp?

Marianne D

My daughter really wants a French / New Orleans bedroom theme and we're looking for a functioning floor lamp that looks like the street lamps on Bourbon Street. If you happen to find something like this online please post the link. I have searched and searched everywhere I can think of, just not sure this exists, especially at a reasonable price. Thank you
Thank you all for the links! What I'm looking for is something that looks like an actual Street lamp you would find in New Orleans but interior floor lamp scale. I want to attach the street sign(s) as well but it does need to be very functional. The room has no overhead lighting, this lamp will need to light the room well

How is the beginning of my story?

Curious_Al

The wedding was a good month away, and yet preparations had begun for it already. Why Amirah, the eldest daughter of a business elite wanted to marry in a bungalow situated in muggy Pakistan when she had glamorous London at the tip of her fingers, was beyond Zara.
She did not understand Amirah. She was so ahead of Pakistan, so far away from it, and yet she chose it as the place for possibly the biggest day of her life. Zara herself dreamed of places far and beyond the borders of Karachi, Pakistan. The world far and beyond the sweeping bungalow, which seemed to get smaller and smaller the more she knew of it with each passing day. The bungalow was a beautiful place to live in; it had a majestic entrance consisting of a tall, wrought iron gate. A towering wall enveloped the building, with thick green vines clinging to its creamy exterior. Upon entering, the foyer led to a towering staircase, twisting up to the second floor, each bedroom roomier than the next. Zara loved the way the stuffy, humid afternoon slowly turned into a cool, breezy evening, with a single giant palm tree swaying in front of the bungalowâs wide terrace. She loved the way the Shamsi family gathered on the lawn as the sun slowly set behind them, while they sat back in roomy lawn chairs enjoying tea, the smaller members of the family giggling and running over the grass enjoying a game of kabbadi. The way Danya, the bungalowâs head cook moved feverishly throughout the kitchen from morning to night, her plastic flip flops slapping against the shiny tiled floor.

But none of this was hers.

Though Zara spent most her days and nights inside the bungalow, she had no business of calling it home. Her home was a small, dingy shed she shared with her parents and her younger sister, Zoya. Unlike the glittering, three-layered chandelier dangling inside the bungalow, a single, faded out light bulb dangled on a short piece of wire inside her home.
But beside all this, Zaraâs father was happy with what he and his family had, âAllah has given us much to be thankful for, mashAllahâ Heâd say often, âHe gave us the Shamsiâs,â
Zaraâs father was a simple man clearly leading a simple life. He would sleep on the shedâs floor on a pillow stuffed with leaves that left marks on his wrinkled cheeks, âThat is the way the Prophet Muhammad slept,â Heâd beam. Besides his servitude to God, he held servitude to Abdul Shamsi, the owner of the bungalow.
âOur family has served the Shamsiâs for as long as I can remember,â When he was a young boy, he would go to the Shamsiâs bungalow and tend to the garden, do chores, and had been nothing more than a servant, until Abdul Shamsi himself had found him a wife and given him a place to call home, even if it had been just a dingy shed.
âI never wanted to work for the Shamsiâs,â Zaraâs mother, Farida, would scowl to her. âI wanted to do something on my own, all my life and I knew I was capable of it. If I hadnât been forced by my father to marry him, I wouldnât be here today,â Every time this came up, she would knead the dough a little harder, sheâd toss the rice in the air a bit more forcefully, spilling some around. She would teach her two daughters the little she knew, one of them being sewing. When Zara would return after a long day of chores at the Shamsiâs, Farida would be sitting inside the shed, the light bulb glowing directly over her head, she would pat the spot next to her and Zara would skid down next to her mother. After watching her motherâs hands working through the fabric, the shiny silver of the needle poking back and forth, she too would hold the needle in her hand, and she too would make a stitch here, a stitch there.
âWho taught you to sew, mama?â said Zara, impressed by how fluently her motherâs hands worked. If her mother was an expert in anything, it had to be sewing.
She smiled, âJust like you have a Farida in your life, I had one too,â
âNani jaan taught you? She mustâve been very good,â
âShe was,â Farida sighed, âThereâs not much a woman can do here,â
Zara nodded in agreement.
âEspecially women like us, the best we can do is to find something one of us already knows, and then pass it along, hoping to keep the chain going, Iâm only doing my job,â
âYouâre doing a very good job mama, did you see that new blouse I made?â Zara asked.
Farida beamed, patting Zara on the head, âI did, and it was beautiful,â She had smiled so hard that it made her beady black eyes look even smaller than usual, âone day you can open your very own boutiqueâ¦make clothes of your ownâ¦name it after someone specialâ¦â
âIâd like that very much,â
âLike what?â Zaraâs father had just appeared after a long, tiring day at Bata shoes.
âYour daughter would like to own a boutique one day,â said Farida.
Azim frowned. âThere will be no such thing,â
âAnd why not? You want her to rot like the rest of us?â Her voice rose, bouncing off the shedâs thin walls.
âDonât you dare say such things, you evil, ungrateful w

I need some feedback on the beginning my story?

The wedding was a good month away, and yet preparations had begun for it already.
âBibi, look at these marigolds, you wonât find better in all Karachiâ
âOh, Mrs. Shamsi, name the color and it is yours, however you look stunning in this one right here, and itâs bringing anâ¦an indescribable glowâ
âA waterproof tent? That certainly will require more rupees,â
Flower vendors, food caterers, venue organizersâthe list simply went on, the gates were left open as these people and alike bustled in and out, day and night.

Answer
Very interesting and entertaining. (I write myself), but I've always enjoyed others work as well than my own (but people seem to be so interested in mine as well that I don't see much reason to why it is so entertaining).
Now, for me to understand more clearly, you're going to need to give me some background information. (Unless it's a mystery). Like: Where is the story set in, what's happening, or the characters. And also, (this would help me a lot) what time era is this placed in? (I often write in different eras so when I usually read someone else's work I get confused because I'm setting my mind to one place in time and then when the writer tells me it was in a differentt era than what I was thinking I feel like a fool for not realizing it sooner).
But all in all I enjoyed the beginning. Tell hope everything else works out for this story.
P.S. I love how you give wonderful description, by the way.

RENT IN NEW YORK??????

BORN-THIS-

I NEED TO A OFFICIAL AND GOOD WEBSITE WHERE I CAN FIND A RENT IN NEW YORK CITY

Answer
There are no official websites on the subject of rent. Each building owner can set rent at the price they wish. Most apartments are never advertised--they get filled very quickly.

For a one bedroom apartment, you will pay somewhere between $1500 and $3000 a month, depending upon the location of the apartment and how nice the building is.

Ideas for a long, narrow, basement bedroom?

Allie

I'm redoing my bedroom, and have no idea what I'm going to do. My bedroom is in the basement, has no windows, and is very long and narrow (my bed takes up half of the width of the room). I know what I'd like my bedroom to have a lot of zebra print, without overpowering it. And I want to make my bedroom look as big as possible. Are there any tricks that I can do to my furniture, paint, ect. to make good use with the space I have?

Answer
Becs answers are good. To go on from there, you may also want to consider designing your room in zones, separated by either privacy screens and/or a bookshelf type room divider. IKEA makes two in their Expedit series that might suit your needs for this part. The first is 72 7/8 W X 15 3/8 D X 72 7/8 H for $199.00 (catalog) and all of the openings are the same size. The second is a little smaller: 35 W X 11 D X 58 5/8 H for $99.00 with openings in a variety of sizes. Both come in a variety of finishes, including black or black/brown - You'll need to check the web-site. They have door and drawer inserts to fit that will provide additional storage space and several different kinds of baskets and boxes that fit the larger openings.

Have a bedroom zone, a living room zone and maybe an area where you can work and or study. You'll want a number of lamps or light fixtures, since there are no windows to provide natural light. As for your bedding, I think I've found just what you are looking for on Overstock.com:

http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Zebra-3-piece-Full-Queen-size-Mini-Comforter-Set/5619643/product.html

It's a 3 pc full/queen zebra print comforter set that comes in aqua, hot pink, lime green, purple and white. If that is not exactly what you are looking for, there are other options available by searching using either bed-in-a-bag sets or duvet sets. With this site, you will want to pay close attention to the product reviews as they will give you additional information regarding any shipping issues/delays and overall product quality/workmanship.

I hope that this helps and that your room comes out looking great!

Which bedding looks better with this set of furniture?

Answer
Hi - you have got some really nice furniture and it is nice to show the furniture to it's best advantage and if it was me I would choose your first bedding you have given the link for i.e.

http://www.kohls.com/product/prd-c26270/home-classics-canyon-7-pc-comforter-set.jsp

This is a beautiful comforter set you have chosen and works very well with your bed - it doesn't compete with furniture - the other two comforter sets you gave us links for - do. Also this one has a very 'calming' effect which is good for you when you are in your bedroom.

So, defo go with this one :)

I will give you a little tip - and that is I would perhaps bring another colour into your room just for a little 'pop' of colour - and that would be - a red cushion on your bed and a red lampshade or a piece of red artwork in your room - you will need at least two pieces of red in something - hence why I'm saying a cushion and lampshade and'or a piece of art with red in it.

For your piece of art - you could do it yourself and buy a blank artist canvas or 3 or 4 if you like and make a statement on your wall by 'grouping' them together on one wall or just have one large one above your bed - it is up to you but just an idea. Buy some remnants of fabric, but as I say make sure the fabric has the colours of your bedding plus red. Get enough fabric to go around the canvas for it also go around the back and just staple the fabric at the back. Have a look here to give you an idea of how yours could look with the fabrics suggested above:)

Anyway hope the above helps :)
