It is for my little sister for her birthday. She is fifteen ,loves to read and likes the color blue and pink. I have seen a lot of rooms with white furniture but my mom just bought her a bed in brown last Christmas so she is not thinking of changing it. Thanks to everyone who helps!

Answer
You can paint the bed white, that way you can open up the idea of a vintage room.
Blue's and Pink's, light colors of course, will make the room perfect. then you can add different accents to the room.

How do I fix a squeaky bedroom floor?

hholcik

when my husband did the strapping in the basement ceiling our bedroom floor now squeaks, how do we fix this before finishing the basement ceiling?

Answer
I fix a LOT of sqeaky floors, lol.... The first thing you have to determine, is WHAT is causing the squeak... then you can go about fixing it...

1) Loose sub floor - literally, the subfloor (usually plywood, or OSB) has worked loose... what has actually happened is the sub floor has raised just a bit, and when someone steps on it, it squeaks as it rubs on the nail, or staple. Pulling the sub floor down to joist will eliminate this problem, and it secures the floor... For this kind of repair, I like to use a product called Squeak Ender. It is a small brace/bracket that screws to the underside of the sub floor, and ties it to the bottom of the floor joist, eliminating the loose sub floor. Squeak Enders can be found at most home supply stores, like Lowe's, in the flooring department, and I've seem them at a few hardware stores. (The manufacturer also has a web site)

2) New installation... such as strapping, may be rubbing at certain locations... I would recommend that it be reworked to eliminate the contact point, with the sub floor. Sometimes a small piece of thin cardboard can be placed between the joist and whatever is rubbing against it.. this might be strapping, or even plumbing.

3) Warped floor joists - This can be anything from a fairly simple repair to a very complex repair. It really depends on how badly the joist is warped, or twisted. If it is only a mild warp, then it can be cut to relieve the stress, and timber or plywood can be glued/screwed to either side of the joist at the cut. Use contruction adhesive, and secure the joist until it sets, with temporary cross bracing. If the joist is warped very badly, you may want to just simply replace it altogether.

When I travel to work on homes, I take along a second pair of hands... or feet as the case may be, hehehehe... I'll have my helper locate the squeak on the floor, while I inspect it from underneath. I usually have them step on the floor, making it squeak, until I'm done with the repair.. at which point, they will still be stepping on it... but it will no longer be squeaking. I think my most amusing "squeak" repair was a gentleman who complained of a squeaky floor....right in front of his refrigerator... lol, he couldnt raid the refrigerator at night without waking up his wife, lol.

How do I keep my cat from ripping apart the carpet outside my bedroom door in the morning?

Kevin

We lock him out because he won't stop playing on the bed and bothering us in the morning, while we are trying to sleep. He has decided that in order to get our attention he will sit outside the bedroom door and meow, as well as scratch the hell out of the carpet and door. Anyone have any good solutions for this? I've thought about putting him in his portable crate when he does it, but I know he would cry a lot.

Answer
Put a rubber mat over the area that he's been scratching, with the knobby underside up, or cover one side of a piece of cardboard or plywood with double-sided sticky tape and place that over the areas he's scratching to deter him from scratching that area. And/or try a remote deterrent device: a Ssscat deterrent device placed near your door at night may help too - you can find them at Petsmart stores or online http://www.ssscat.com

Cats are nocturnal (active at night) by nature. You'll need to work to 'reset' his schedule so he'll be active during the day & quiet at night. Make sure he has plenty to keep him occupied during the day - this link has great suggestions:
http://www.catclinicofroswell.com/faq/detail.aspx?faqid=3

Every evening, set aside some time for a good play therapy session: http://www.littlebigcat.com/index.php?action=library&act=show&item=playtherapyforcats
Follow the play session with a nice, filling meal of a high-quality canned cat food (see http://www.catinfo.org/ for information on choosing a good canned food). That will help to mimic the natural activity of hunting and feeding, which should help him to sleep. If you don't want him in the room with you, provide him with some nice soft cat beds of his own (piles of soft towels will work well too) up on top of some furniture- cats prefer to sleep up on things to feel safer.

Make sure that you aren't unintentionally encouraging his nightime antics by getting up & playing with him, talking to him, petting him, feeding him, or even yelling at him - it's all attention. DO NOT open the door for him when he cries, no matter how persistent he is. Giving up & opening the door for him after he cries persistently (even if it's to spray him with water) just teaches him to be more persistent. Expect him to be VERY persistent about it for a while until he finally figures out it isn't getting him anywhere. To help you sleep while he's learning crying doesn't work, you can either try sleeping with some soft foam earplugs from the drugstore so you won't hear him, or set up a vacuum cleaner near your bed, where you can reach the switch from your bed, and plug it in. If he bothers you at night or starts yowling or scratching at the door, switch on the vacuum cleaner for a moment. The 'vacuum monster' coming to life should discourage him from bothering you - he should make the connection pretty quickly. If you want to try letting him sleep with you but don't want him to pester you while you're trying to sleep, the vacuum trick should help for that as well.

Here's an article about excessive nocturnal activity in cats:
http://www.asah.net/behavior_topics_49.htm

This link has information about the needs of an indoor cat - making sure all of his mental and physical needs are met will help to make him a better companion:

Hope this helps!

Q. I need summary by individual chapters. if you have read the book or know where i can get chapter summaries please help me! i need this by friday! and i don't have the book! please please help me!

Answer
Thomas Small, his parents, and twin brothers leave their home in North Carolina for Ohio where Mr. Small has a job teaching history at a college. The time of the setting of the story is at the beginning of the Civil Rights Movement during the 1960's.Their new home has previously been a station on the Underground Railroad. Mr. Thomas received a report that stated Dies Drear, the original owner, and two slaves had been murdered at the house. One additional slave had been at the house at the time of the murder. The caretaker of the house is an elderly man named Mr. Pluto.
As Thomas is exploring the house, he meets two neighbors, Pesty and Mac . He then falls into a tunnel under the house where he hears strange sounds.Frightened, he finds an outlet from the tunnel to the kitchen. His father shows him other secret places. Further exploring and sounds lead him to a platform.A large man emerges and chases him home. This is "Mr. Pluto."Mr. and Mrs. Small feel there is something not quite right about him.
During their first night in the house something opens another hidden door and places triangles on the bedroom door frames. The next day the Smalls discover these as well as another in Mr. Small's office at the college. They attend church where they see a changed old Mr. Pluto, an angry Darrow family, and Pesty in old fashioned clothing. While looking for a locksmith, they meet Mr. Carr who warns them about the Darrows. He explains they are secretive and dig up trees and even dig under their home.
Upon returning home, the Smalls find the kitchen vandalized and a sticky substance over everything. Mr. Small and Thomas go Mr. Pluto's to accuse him. They find him in front of his cave but he quickly disappears. They find his bellows which is what has made the scary noise. They discover a hidden door and go down a tunnel to find a vast treasure house of oriental rugs, glasswear, Indian artifacts, and antique furniture.Mr.Pluto and Pesty are waiting there for them.Suddenly another Mr. Pluto appears! It is really Mayhew Skinner, Mr. Pluto's son who is an actor. He has been pretending to be his father to help keep the Darrows away during his father's illness.
Mayhew, Mr. Small, and Thomas make a plant to frighten the Darrows. Mr. Pluto won't leave so he is included in the plan as well. They let it be known that Mr. Pluto has to go into the hospital for t least one night. That night they dress up as slaves and old Mr. Drear. The Darrows come and Mr. Pluto scares them by lookinglike a bat. The drama continues as the apparitions rise up.Pesty is riding a horse with wings to further scare the Darrows.
The next day it is decided that Mr. Small will record all the treasure. It will take a long time to do so and Mr. Pluto can be the caretaker of the treasure for the rest of his life.He is a descendant of the escaped slave and this is how he knew fragments of the story of the treasure. The Darrows might have been related to another slave that might have been there. They did not know where the treasure was and so continued to search for it.

Trying to locate fruitwood night stands by a former manufacturer named Kent Coffey model Seremata?

flafreyman

The bedroom set is estimated to be approximately 40 to 50 years old and I am trying to match night stands to it. Even the location of the former manufacturer might give me a locale in which to search.
other fruitwood finished furniture (night Stands) may be adaptable.

Answer
Wow, this has been sort of a sticky wicket to find and I'm not sure I really found anything. Here are some sites to check out:

http://www.furnituremagazine.com/default.cfm?page=/ViewManufacturers&Letter=k

http://www.sharonelizabethsbnb.com/

This one is a cookbook, but it lists the contributores and the Kent Coffey founder is listed. You may want to call the writer of the artcle and see where he got his information. http://www.morganton.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=MNH/MGArticle/MNH_BasicArticle&c=MGArticle&cid=1031779758014&path=!news

By going through the sites and articles you can find e-mails and phone numbers.

Now this one is way out in left field. It is from the North Carolina Court of Appeals. Maybe you can contact someone involved to find your information if you are really really desparate to find what you need: http://www.aoc.state.nc.us/www/public/coa/dsheets/991001-1.htm

When is the best time to buy from Ashley Furniture?

I want to buy a bedroom set from Ashley Furniture. When do they have the best prices? What kind of sale schedule do they have?

Answer
Though I do not know a whole lot about Ashley's retail stores, I do know the company well; the furniture retailer for whom I worked sales, customers service, and management was an Ashley dealer. I can only assume, as one of the other responses did, that they function in much the same way that other discount furniture retailers do.

Furniture stores, as was mentioned, tend to have some definite sale times. Statistically, the big weekends of the year are memorial day and labor day. Those also tend to be the days of the biggest sales (generally a circus in the store, so check to see if they start sales prior to the actual holiday weekend). Additionally, any other "3 day weekend" holiday tends to trigger furniture sales.

Hopefully this is helpful.

I want to redo my room?

My bedroom is lilac with a lilac/gray carpet. I would like to do my room with a french, victorian , chanel vibe. IN white, black, pinkandpurple. My funiture is white. Ideas and links would be appriciated to help me redo my room if your have more questions please feel free to email me or i.m. me at Woodchip127@aol.com thank you for your creative imput.
Please help!

Answer
i think to give it the elegant vibe your looking for, you need to incorporate some metalic accent into the room. silver, platinum, pewter, brushed aluminum, all look great with purple and lilac and white.
candelabra style lamps, vases, brush and comb set handles, perfume bottle lids, mirrored tray feet....all these can be done in metallics. also a satiny silver/gray metalic-sheened fabric for upholstery, bedding, and window treatments would look great. have you considered getting a vanity with large round mirror? you could cover it with a gray satin dropcloth, and upholster a stool for it in the same material.
black framed black and white fashion magazine photos from the 40's and 50's would work well on the walls.
a white or pale grey shag carpet would be cool on the floor.
you could also paint gray vertical stripes on the lilac walls.
a few cushions of various shapes and sizes covered in a rich dark eggplant (aubergine) cover would really add a punch of bold color to a pale silvery lilac bedspread.

me and my fiance are getting a house together in 3 months but on a tight budget.?

Brittany

Were trying to get everything for it before we move in. Where trying to spend 100 dollars a week on things. what all should we get first and now?

Answer
Make that "My fiancé and I..." ;-)

Break it out room-by-room and then things that one might consider to be "whole house items."

For instance... a whole house item would be curtains. Of course, you can't buy/make your curtains until you know what size windows you have, but you could easily pick up some generic plain white curtains at a thrift shop or Goodwill, along with some expanding café curtain rods, so you can have privacy the day you move in and plan on replacing the curtains as your budget allows after you move into your new place.

So, room by room...

Bedroom
Bed... sheets & pillowcases, quilt/bedspread/coverlet, pillows... mattress cover... bedside tables (or fabric to cover the boxes you can use until you find the right night tables ;-) )... reading lamps... some sort of dresser or "drawer storage" unit... a bench or chair... a full-length mirror. Extras such as a waste paper basket or two, a rug (or two small area rugs for either side of the bed), small bookcase (so long as it can used elsewhere if it doesn't fit in the bedroom). A couple of laundry baskets.

Bath
Towels (think two bath sheets, two regular sized towels, four wash cloths and four hand towels), shower curtain & liner, a rug for in front of the tub/shower... a battery-operated wall clock and a waste paper basket. A large clothes hamper (in a neutral color) is always handy. Much of anything else will depend on what else is in the bath you eventually rent/buy, as well as the bath's finishes and colors, so stay away from purchasing items such as soap holders (will you need one or two?) or cosmetic holders (you may or may not have drawers in the vanity for these products) or other frou-frou until you know the bath you'll have.

Kitchen
(NB: I'd stay away from buying furniture before you know what your new kitchen's size, finishes, color, and dimensions are. Why fall in love with and buy a gorgeous round oak table and four chairs if your kitchen only has room for a small dinette w/ two stools, KWIM?) Linens... kitchen dish towels, oven mitts and a dozen basic cloth napkins. Coffeemaker. Toaster and/or toaster oven. A Crock Pot (small or large, your choice). Food processor... doesn't have to be the megaskajillion dollar name brand... a small Black & Decker chopper/dicer will do 90% of the prep work you're likely gonna doing. A battery-operated wall clock. Refrigerator magnets. Spice rack (if desired). Canister set (if desired). Cooking tools... ladles, regular and slotted spoons, tongs, wooden spoon set, whisks, large fork (like a small grilling fork), a turkey baster, a paintbrush, a crock to hold these items on your about-to-be kitchen counter. A set of mixing bowls (some folks have two... one metal for food prep, and one glass for the microwave). A set of cooking knives... can often be purchased all-in-one along with steak knives, a whet stone & kitchen shears. Some neutral colored cutting boards (wood or acrylic). A drainboard & the mat that goes under it. A package of sponges and at least one plastic scrubber.

Then there's the basic cookware: two small sauce pans, two medium-sized sauce pans, one large pot (dutch oven or pasta cooking size)... a couple of frying pans (one medium and one large, with lids, if possible)...a couple of cookie sheets... a broiling pan or two, a couple of covered casserole dishes. A set of good Rubbermaid containers for marinating foods/leftovers/freezer storage is always a good thing. For serving (when guests are expected), think about a couple of deep bowls (for veggies or rolls or bread goods), a small platter or two, and the appropriate serving utensils.

Dining: cutlery... I suggest a minimum of 8 place settings (knife, fork, spoon, soup spoon, dessert forks... in my life I've found an extra dozen teaspoons to be a good thing... they always seem to be used up first. LOL! China... again, try for 8: dinner plates, soup/cereal bowls, luncheon/dessert plates. Eight "nice" glasses to go w/ your china, plus another 8 that can be used (and broken) without worry. :-) Coffee mugs. Wine glasses (white & red).

Of course, this doesn't even touch on the furniture, electronics, or accessories you'll need/want... but that's far too personal a decision for -us- to make for you. ;-)

When I was just 19, I did what you're doing (minus the boyfriend)... I figured out what I needed/wanted and spent a little each paycheck so I could make the move into my own place. It was fun and it made me feel ever so much the grown-up when I was able to immediately hang curtains, make coffee and make the bed up the day I moved in.

Have fun.

Hope this helps,
    TX Griff

Looking to purchase a Full size bed for an adult pls Help!?

I'm looking for a bedroom set but I need the bed to be a full size not queen, my bedroom is rather small and the wall where the bed will fit best is only 115" long. I want a bed and two night stands one on each side. So a queen is out of the question.
So far most places I've looked do not offer their bed set on a full. Only child beds come in full size. I know that there has to be a shop willing to order a full size in an adult looking bedroom set. Anyone know of a good place to look?

Hey, I am planning to move from USA to Canada.
1) s getting a bank loan easier in Canada?
2) I am US Citizen. Do I need to Canadian to buy a house?
3) Average price range of house , I can get for 1 or 2 bedrooms set in Toronto area?

Please advice. Thank you so much.

Answer
You can't just move to Canada. It has immigration laws.

Americans can visit Canada for a maximum of 180 days each year without a visa. They may apply for a temporary residency (tourists) visa for a maximum of two years. Tourists may not attend school, work, or look for work while in Canada, nor can they obtain driver's licenses, social insurance numbers, health insurance, open bank accounts, etc. All entry into Canada is at the discretion of Canadian Border Services. If you state you are staying for a long period of time, you'll need a good explanation of what you are doing in Canada, proof of finances, travel medical insurance, etc.

If you wish to study or work temporarily in Canada, you would need a study permit (required you apply, be accepted, and pay for university... likely $40,000+ per year) or a work permit (which required a job offer from a Canadian company which has permission to hire foreign workers). Both are temporary... ending when your program or job offer expires to a maximum of two to three years on a work permit.

If you wish to stay permanently in Canada, you must apply for permanent residency. This requires specific requirements such as: marrying a Canadian willing to sponsor you; a highly skilled job offer (doctor, engineer, nurse, specialized trades, etc.) and then complete for one of 10,000 positions based on age, education, language testing, etc.; have a net worth of $1.6M and invest $800k in Canada; complete certain university degree in Canada and then find work in that profession; or obtain the nomination of one of the provinces (doctor willing to work in a remote community, buy/run a farm in some provinces, world class performing artist, etc.).

Until you sort out your immigration issues... this is rather pointless.

1. No bank will give you a loan. US banks won't give you a mortgage on a property outside of the United States and no Canadian bank will give a mortgage to anyone without lawful residency in Canada -- and probably not any temporary student or work permit holder.

2. A lot of money.

3. You can use the MLS web site to search for homes for sale anywhere in Canada. Home prices vary dramatically. However, even the smaller starter home in Greater Toronto will be well in excess of $400,000 with averages in the $600,000 or so.

What paint colors go best with charcoal gray bedding?

Answer
Any color..Grey is a neutral ...For the bedroom I would suggest staying away from bold colors though. I would find an item or an area rug and use that to work off of.

Getting the rug will dictate your choice and tell you what color to pull for the wall, window and accessories.

Would it be safe or effective to blow out the pilot on my heater?

I keep the thermostat in my trailer as low as it will go, 50F, but the heater still comes on. I really dont need it, i run an electric one in the bedroom where I sleep, and bundle up around the house otherwise. It is very drafty, and a waste of money to heat the whole place. I have one of those in-wall-set standing heaters in the hallway with the pilot at the bottom. If i blow out the pilot, is that safe? will it still emit gas? ....would it be effective?

Answer
There should be a gas shutoff somewhere that would be better to shut off. If you blow out the pilot light it will only be ok if everything is working properly. There should be a button that lets you light the pilot and a thermostat that won't let the gas turn on unless the pilot light is lit. If they are all working it will be ok.

How can I get my nearly year old terrier mix housetrained?

arabianlad

This sweet spayed female won't learn to potty outside...I work nights and leave her in with my other terrier-who I think has reverted to a house mistake now and then too...I have to sleep days...can't leave them out because of neighbors. Don't expect them to hold it forever but the female always does her duty inside! I'm at my wits end with this little bundle of energy.

Answer
A puppy is like a baby. He will relieve himself anywhere, anytime. Because a newly adopted adult dog is unfamiliar with your home, he may not understand where he should "go"! Housetraining, or teaching your dog to go outside to relieve himself, is an important lesson your dog must learn.
It is up to you, the new parent, to housetrain your new puppy or dog with patience, love and understanding.
CRATE TRAINING
In the wild, wolves live in a den or cave. It is important the entire wolf pack keep this area clean. The same idea works with your family pet. Your dog’s crate is his home, his bedroom. It is likely that your dog will not like to soil his bed. Therefore, he will wait until he is let out to do his business.
HOUSETRAINING WITH YOUR CRATE
On average, puppies can hold their bladders one hour for every month they have been alive, plus one hour. For example, if you have a three month old puppy, he can wait 3 + 1 = 4 hours. If you work longer than this, the best solution is to have someone (a neighbour, a relative, a dog walker) come in at an appropriate time to let your dog out.

100 PER CENT SUPERVISION
Supervision is the key to housetraining! While you are at home, your dog must be supervised. Whether you are watching television, making dinner, on the phone or on the computer, your puppy must be watched. While it sounds like an impossible task, it isn’t. Keeping the crate in a social part of the house makes it easier. Using a house lead – a small, thin lead with a little clip on it – also helps immensely. Outside, you put a lead on your dog so you can control him. If the lead is removed after returning home, control is lost. For example, when watching television, have the lead tied to a couch leg. Your dog can have his blanket and toys with him. He’ll feel safe and comfortable. The majority of accidents happen when your pup wanders off and you haven’t noticed. You don’t want him to sneak off into the kitchen and find a puddle a short time later. If your pup is kept from wandering, the possibility of an accident is diminished because he will not eliminate where he is sitting. 100 per cent supervision means ensuring your dog is playing with you, in his crate, outside or on his house lead.

SCHEDULING
In the morning, take your dog outside. He should urinate and possibly have a bowel movement. Spend about five to seven minutes with him and then bring him in. Do not play with him yet. Feed him breakfast, either in the crate or with the lead, and supervise it. If your pup did not have a bowel movement earlier, take him back outside about 15 minutes after he has eaten. Use the lead to keep your pup moving along while outside. Otherwise, he may start sniffing, stopping and playing to avoid the job at hand. You can say “hurry up” and your dog will begin to associate these words with the task at hand. Praise him excessively when he has eliminated. Bring him back in the house and place him in his crate if you are going to work. Continue to supervise him with the crate or the lead if you are home. When returning after being out, go directly to the crate, let him out, praise him and put him back in. Feed him his meal, take him outside 15 minutes after he has eaten, praise him after he eliminates, and bring him back in. Continue to follow the same steps consistently.

While you are home, you should take your pup outside on a regular basis. Even if your pup is in a crate or on a house lead, he still needs the opportunity to eliminate. Also, be careful what you wish for! A pup who barks to go outside may be cute and clever now. However, you must try not to fall into the habit of leaping up every time your dog wants in or out. It is a very submissive gesture on your part. Have your pup wait a moment or two.

Setting up a schedule is also a good idea. If your pup is under four months of age, take him out for five minutes every hour on the hour. If your pup is over four months old, take him out every second hour on the hour. The schedule will help you remember when to take him out. Go out for five minutes only. It provides the opportunity to eliminate even if your pup may not need to go. Take your dog out after active play and also after napping. If an accident occurs, you may have forgotten to take him out .

FEEDING TIME
Having a puppy drink a lot of water and then placing him in his crate is much more unkind than letting him be a bit thirsty for an hour or two. Adult dogs should have access to drinking water at all times. However, this is not the case for untrained pups. Most parents will not allow their children to drink a big glass of water before going to bed. Avoid setting your pup up for failure. Restrict his water intake to three or four drinks daily and make sure you remove the water dish about three hours before bedtime. This will help your dog sleep more comfortably.

If it is a hot evening, supply your pup with a few ice cubes. They will enter your dog’s system at a slower pace. When feeding your pup, provide a high-quality food that is a good source of protein. The food must be concentrated so your puppy’s body doesn’t require much of it. If you feed less, your puppy eliminates less. Food is directly related to how well puppies do in their housetraining.

EXERCISE
It is important that your pup gets a lot of exercise, especially while crate training. You can play fetch, chase or hide and seek in your home. You can call ‘come’ at the same time to provide further training. Anyway you do it, your pup needs to be able to run and play.

Is it normal to have bad allergies 2 years after moving?

Kat

I am constantly tired and sneezing. My eyes are puffy and sleepy. I moved from Las Vegas, NV to Southeast Ohio and ever since I have been exhausted. I know your body has to get used to different climates but seriously, it's been 2 years now. I feel like I'm a walking zombie. Is this normal for here?
I don't have insurance, cant afford it. I am not eligible for medicaid by $20. I have never had allergies until I moved here.

Answer
I'm sorry to hear about your situation. I have developed severe multiple allergies, and it can sure make life difficult.

If you developed these symptoms some time after moving, that's not really surprising. Your immune system may not react when you are first exposed to an allergen, but after multiple exposures, may begin to react.

In a different part of the country, you may be exposed to pollen from different plants, or it may be mold or dust mite allergies in a more humid area. Can you tell any pattern to when you have symptoms, or when they are worst? Pollen allergies will probably vary with the time of year. Mold and dust allergies can be year-round since the sources are indoors.

If it's a constant problem, my first guess would be the mold/dust possibility. Does your house have any leaks/water drips issues or has it in the past? Does it smell musty? I use a dehumidifier, and my allergist said to keep the humidity at around 40%. 50% or over, and you will have mold.

The thing you can do that would help most is to make your bedroom allergen-free, since that is where a person spends a lot of time. Get a allergy preventing pillow cover, since your face and nose are in close proximity to your pillow for hours. Wash your bedding weekly in hot water. If you can, exclude carpeting, drapes, upholstered furniture, stuffed toys, etc. from the bedroom. Keep clutter of any kind to a minimum. Dust often with a moistened micro-fiber cloth or paper towel so that you pick up dust rather than stirring it up into the air.

Then gradually work on the rest of your house, to eliminate the same allergy sources. My allergist also had me remove all wall-paper, as molds can live behind it.

Using a sinus rinse daily can be a big help too.

If your allergies are seasonal, then it's more likely to be pollen, and that's a whole different set of things you can do.

Good luck with getting this under control!

What are some young adult books that are so good you can't put down?

i wanna ho

I am going to Border's and the library today and I can never find anything. I never know what to look for because there are just so many books there :) So what do you recommend for young adult/teen books that are really great?
Also, if you can, please include why it is good or a little of what it is about. I always get tons of recommendations but have no idea what type of books they are.

Answer
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins: Set in the future in a country that requires two kids from each of its twelve districts to be sent into an arena to compete in the Hunger Games. To lose is to die and there can be only one winner. Katniss volunteers to go in place of her younger sister with no hope of ever coming home. A very suspenseful, deep, thought-provoking story.

Peeps by Scott Westerfeld: a vampire story, but not. Vampirism in this book is an STD that turns you into a flesh-eating beast.

A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray: Gemma is sent to a boarding school after her mother's death where she learns about a very dark and dangerous power that she has.

Beastly by Alex Flinn: a modern day Beauty and the Best with a twist.

The Mediator by Meg Cabot: Suze is a girl who can see ghosts and consequently falls in love with the very hot one living in her bedroom. Hilarious and sarcastic at the same time as being dark.

Sucks to be Me by Kimberly Pauley: When sixteen-year-old Mina is forced to take a class to help her decide whether or not to become a vampire like her parents, she also faces a choice between her life-long best friend and the boy she has a crush on versus new friends and possible boyfriends in her mandatory "vampire lessons."

You Are So Undead to Me by Stacie Jay: Megan Berry, a Carol, Arkansas, high school student who can communicate with the Undead, must team up with her childhood friend Ethan to save homecoming from an army of flesh-hungry zombies.

Thicker than Water by Karla Jablonski:Coping with her mother's cancer makes seventeen-year-old Kia feel out of place everywhere until she is drawn into the goth-vampire club scene, where she finds acceptance and one gorgeous, popular guy who might offer escape.

Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side by Beth Fantasky:Seventeen-year-old Jessica, adopted and raised in Pennsylvania, learns that she is descended from a royal line of Romanian vampires and that she is betrothed to a vampire prince, who poses as a foreign exchange student while courting her.

Uglies by Scott Westerfeld:In Tally's world, a 16th birthday brings an operation, transforming one from a repellent Ugly to an attractive Pretty. Turning Pretty is all Tally has ever wanted. Her friend Shay would rather risk life on the outside. When Shay runs away, Tally must make a terrible choice.

Bloodline by Kate Cary: It's been 35 years since the demise of Dracula. When 19-year-old John Shaw returns from fighting in World War I, he is haunted by nightmares--not only of the ravages of war, but of the brutal, almost superhuman feats of his commander, Quincey Harker.

The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryans:In Mary's world there are simple truths. The Sisterhood always knows best, and the fence that protects her village from the Forest of Hands and Teeth must remain intact. After fence is breached, Mary's world is thrown into chaos, and she must choose between her village and her future.

Unwind by Neal Susterman: In a future world where those between the ages of thirteen and eighteen can have their lives "unwound" and their body parts harvested for use by others, three teens go to extreme lengths to uphold their beliefs--and, perhaps, save their own lives.

The Pact by Jodi Picoult: Until the phone calls came at 3:00 A.M. on a November morning, the Golds and their neighbors, the Hartes, had been inseparable. It was no surprise to anyone when their teenage children, Chris and Emily, began showing signs that their relationship was moving beyond that of lifelong friends. But now seventeen-year-old Emily has been shot to death by her beloved and devoted Chris as part of an apparent suicide pact -- leaving two devastated families stranded in the dark and dense predawn, desperate for answers about an unthinkable act and the children they never really knew.

What Happened to Cass McBride by Gails Giles: After his younger brother commits suicide, Kyle Kirby decides to exact revenge on the person he holds responsible. Cass McBride has only a walkie talkie to save her when she is buried alive.

13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher: When high school student Clay Jenkins receives a box in the mail containing thirteen cassette tapes recorded by his classmate Hannah, who committed suicide, he spends a bewildering and heartbreaking night crisscrossing their town, listening to Hannah's voice recounting the events leading up to her death

Maximum Ride by James Patterson: After the mutant Erasers abduct the youngest member of their group, the "birdkids," who are the result of genetic experimentation, take off in pursuit and find themselves struggling to understand their own origins and purpose.

Cirque Du Freak by Darren Shan: Darren Shan is an ordinary schoolboy who enjoys hanging out with his three best friends. Then one day they stumble across an invitation to visit the Cirque Du Freak, a mysterious freak show. As if by destiny, Darren wins a ticket, and what f

Patrick J

Hey guys i have a question about furnishing my new home. I have nothing in my new home besides some appliances. I would like to buy bedroom sets, living room sets, and a home theatre set-up, i was wondering what my options were. How does furniture credit work? What are the interest rates? How else could i pay?

thanks

Answer
I would figure out how much money you have and start sale shopping..do some research..check out second hand stores and auctions..do not go to direct buy (rip off)...you have appliances which are a great expense you have just saved on...ikea has good prices..and here, Leon's will do a don't pay for 15 or 18 month sales on approved credit...just look around, make a list of what you need and go from there..you can pick up pieces bit by bit..you can get good deals at furniture places, but read the fine print..you must pay them off before the time runs out.

How much would be the investment for solar panel which runs 2 Air conditioner?

Sanket Sah

I want to setup solar panels to run 2 Air conditioner and simple lights. How much would be the approx cost in USD? I want to set it up India. If you've more idea about Indian market then thats better.

Answer
This means that what you would be powering with solar electricity are things like the refrigerator, the lights, the computer, the TV, stereo equipment, motors in things like furnace fans and the washer, etc. Let's say that all of those things average out to 600 watts on average. Over the course of 24 hours, you need 600 watts * 24 hours = 14,400 watt-hours per day.

I know that a solar panel can generate 70 milliwatts per square inch * 5 hours = 350 milliwatt hours per day. Therefore you need about 41,000 square inches of solar panel for the house. That's a solar panel that measures about 285 square feet (about 26 square meters). That would cost around $16,000 right now. Then, because the sun only shines part of the time, you would need to purchase a battery bank, an inverter, etc., and that often doubles the cost of the installation.

If you want to have a small room air conditioner in your bedroom, double everything.

If you want to just power 2 small air conditioners, your look at about $32,000 +installation

The best way to run an evaporative cooler (swamp cooler) in a small room?

Larry McCa

I live in a VERY DRY climate
I want to get a portable evaporative / swamp cooler for the room, but last time I bought one, the room just ended up being both warm and sticky, I must have set it up wrong...?

I have two windows in a small 12ft x 12ft bedroom, One window faces north, the other faces east.
How should I set up the room?

Answer
Evaporative coolers that operate entirely within a room are notorious for simply raising the humidity and not cooling very much. The reason is, it recycles the air in the room causing the humidity to rise. When the humidity rises, the cooler can't evaporate water as quickly and it begins to lose its cooling ability.

The right setup for a cooler is a configuration where it takes OUTSIDE air in, cools it via evaporation, and blows it into the room, where somewhere else in the room or the house, a window is open to allow the air out. The idea being that the cooler is always cooling dry outside air. If you can put the unit in a window, and somehow block the air from inside the room from getting into the intake grille(s) (maybe tape some plastic sheeting onto it and then onto the window frame to make an intake "plenum", it will work MUCH better, I assure you.

Why cant kids go right into an adult size bed?

Whatever

My daughter is 11 months. People are saying a toddler bed is a waste of money and to get her a twin size. But i have a bedroom set i use right now that i would like to give to her...but the bed is a queen....why cant she jus go in that at 18 months - 2 years?

Answer
Kid proof your Queen set and let her sleep in it. She is set well into her teenage years as far as a bed goes.

Just make sure she can't fall out of it or slip in to any large gaps on the sides of the bed.

For a teacher which state may offer more? Which state has a lower living expense? I love teaching but finances are a reality that cannot be forgotten.

Which State? Why?

Answer
Both are affordable... it really depends on what you like. If you like dry heat and dessert then Arizona is way better and nicer than the Texas dessert (we found El Paso to be one of the least friendly, and most run-down, places we've ever visited). If you don't mind humidity and thunderstorms, and you dig greenery then the Texas Hill Country (Austin & San Antonio) all the way to East Texas (Houston area) has lots of forest, streams, lakes, etc. Both offer affordable housing... I personally prefer Texas because the people (at least in the hill Country and the Houston suburbs) are generally warm... and I don't really like the dessert. One draw back to Texas though is crazy-high property taxes (typically run around 2.7-3%, but can get as high as 4% by the time you're done adding them all up in a newer "bedroom" community)... and unless you're bringing in a giant income the absence of state income tax in Texas will not off-set this tremendously high property tax... I ran the numbers as we are considering the move from So. Cal. to Texas and our overall tax burden would actually go up... on the positive side we could still afford a nice, new home in a nice area despite the high taxes. One big potential plus for you as a teacher in Texas is that it seems that they take a lot of pride in their public schools (generally beautiful campuses)... we have several friends from Texas who say the public schools there are quite good. One big cultural change (at least from So. Cal.) is that it is my understanding that public education in Texas is considered a privilege (and not a right)... so parents understand that if their kid does something bad enough to get expelled it will be their burden to find a school that is willing to take their kid... I would imagine this would make keeping order in the classroom a little easier for a teacher. Best of luck!

Where's the best place to find really cute comforters/bedding?

Q. I know victoria's secret has some, but there are only a few.

Answer
Depends on what your budget is. If you are my niece, it might be thousands.....not me. I try to find what I like for the least amount of money. I have a large home; large bedrooms; and have 5 queen sized beds in my home. I found beautiful full sets of bedding (including bed skirts, sham covers, sheets, pillow cases, and comforters) for $30 each at Big Lots. I love a bargain! Leaves more money to spend on other things! I made a 100 mile roundtrip to Austin, Texas to shop. That was 2 yrs ago....yes, they are as pretty as the day I bought them. Sometimes more expensive isn't always better. Guess you have guessed I live out in the Hill Country. Good luck!

How much money do I need to furnish a new apartment?

AMe

It's a one bedroom. I have a TV, pots n pans, kitchen table, and living room table & end tables.

I'll have to buy almost EVERYthing else. I can buy stuff like Value City or Ashley furniture. How much will it cost for a bed set, sheets, couch, lamps, towels, trash cans, etc....

How about hook up fees for phones and gas, etc?

Answer
I don't know where you live, but you should try to get as much as you can at garage sales or second hand shops. This would include dishes, glasses, silverware, ect.

For the things you don't want to get used try ikea. They have everything you could possibly need to furnish an apartment, and the bonus is that they are reasonably priced and their stuff is cute! Also go to Walmart, Target and Kmart for things like bedding, towels, and accessories.

www.ikea.com

mattress/boxspring--$200-1000 depending on your preference. If you want to save money, buy just the mattress and buy a platform bed because you don't need a boxspring.

platform bed or frame--$50-150

Bathroom accessories (towels, washcloths, shower curtain ect) $50-$75

Couch and chair--$400+

lamps (2)--$50

bedding (sheets, blankets, pillows ect)--$100

All the extra things you will need to set up your kitchen with like a microwave, toaster, dish towels ect will run you about $150

A phone will cost about $35 for hookup and gas and electric usually make you pay one months utilities in advance so I would guess about $150 total. A lot of people aren't getting home phones anymore, but instead just using their cell phones. This would save you a monthly bill of at least $35 (and that is if you don't use long distance!)

All of this information could be more expensive depending on what part of the country you live in. Like I said before, get as much as you can at garage sales or second hand shops like a microwave, and even a bed frame if you can find one. I don't know when you are moving but start looking early. Also, ask relatives if they have any old items you can have/borrow because they might be willing to give up an old couch they have in their basement and you can get a slip cover for it which will save you hundreds of dollars.

What are requirements to buy house in Toronto, Canada?
