What is the best product to use on antique furniture?

Q. I just bought an antique bedroom set. What would be the best product to use to clean and protect the wood. I have some Murphys oil soap, has anyone ever used this product?

A. Murphy's is good, however I find that Howard Feed-N-Wax wood preserver gets off grime like nothing else.

What is the best place to sell antique furniture?
Q. My mom has an antique bedroom set we have been trying to get rid of on ebay with no luck. I'm wondering if there is anyplace where we might have better luck of getting rid of it at. It's in really good condition we just have no use for it.

A. You should try craigslist and other similar advertising sites.

How can I get an Estimate on an Antique Bedroom set?
Q. I have an old Bedroom set, we are thinking about saleing! Howw can I find out about what it's worth!

A. ANTIQUES ROADSHOW
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/roadshow/index.html
Take good photos and send them to the desired appraiser.
There are those that claim to be appraisers and really are not, use the Better Business Bureau to check them out if you should call one to come to your home.
BBB OnLine

Better to be safe than sorry!

How much would a bedroom set from the 1880s cost?
Q. does anyone out there know? I inherited a bedroom set and a dining room table from the 1880' s and i was curious on how much they were worth.....they're in great condition and i'm having them cleaned by a profesional. I can't seem to find a answer browsing the web.

A. You need to get it appraised by an antique dealer. It really depends on the set itself.

Which monarchy is the most expensive to maintain?

Q. Of all the world monarchies, i would like to know which one is the most expensive to maintain. Alot of people in the UK seem to complain about how much the british royal family costs the tax payer. Yet some say british royalty is one of the cheapest to maintain, if so, which country spends the most on its royal family?

A. Many of the monarchs are ultra-wealthy in their own right, like Bahrain, Oman, Saudi, Brunei, Qatar, United Arab emirates, and Thailand. As billionaires in their own right they are not really maintained. However, the cost of the yachts, fleets of rolls royces, and jets gives a rough idea of how much is spent on their personal needs, and it is much more than spent on the UK monarchy.
----------------------------------------------
The Japanese monarchy is structured as a constitutional monarchy, and they spend about as much per person as the UK, but they have twice as many people (so twice the costs). Costs are tremendous.
---------------------------------------------
In Europe the Scandinavian countries and the Netherlands spend much more person than the UK, but they are also much smaller countries. I mean Denmark is 5 million people.
--------------------------------------------
I'm not absolutely sure about Spain because they are not as public with their costs.
============================
In general for a head of state, Queen Elizabeth costs relatively nothing. Most of her expenses are for maintenance of palaces which would be maintained if the UK became a republic. She has no wild personal tastes. As a little extravegance she took a helicopter to Kentucky Derby when she came to the US two years ago, purely because she is a fan of horse races and this would be the last chance in her life to see this particular race. The Americans loved having her there. IMHO we probably spend more on the US secretary of state than the UK spends on The Queen.
-----------------------
The Princes Charles and Andrew are a little more enamored with over the top luxuries than their mother. Although Andrew gets a lot of crap from the media, I think Charles is the worst one in the family. He expenses things that his mother would never do.
-------------------
Mind you some of the expenses are high even for an upper level businessman. The royal train is fairly expensive way to travel a few hundred miles a day. But if you see photos it actually looks like a budget motel on wheels. It doesn't look anything like the train cars of the ultra wealthy in the 19th century. But it is a concession to monarchy. The Queen has an office on the train, she can bring medical equipment, she sleeps in a secret predetermined location on a rail siding so their are no security concerns with strange hotels, and when she comes into town in her scarlet coaches it is a bit of a celebration that the whole family can enjoy. My personal opinion is that they should keep the train until she dies. As she reaches her 90's it will be harder and harder for her to go around the country.
==================
Personal jets are a huge expense for any head of state. The royal family has a personal helicopter, but it is used almost exclusively by the children. The Queen finds them obnoxious and loud, and very rarely gets on it.
--------------------
In general I am not saying anything new. I think a lot of Brits are bothered by the expenses of the royal family, and not those of the monarch.
=================
I maintain a particular annoyance that Charles flies around the UK in massive oversize jets that he leases. For a man who makes every other speech about the environment, I think he could set an example and fly around the UK where round trips are seldom above 650 miles in a turboprop. I don't care if it's the fanciest sexiest turboprop on the planet, but he doesn't need a conference room and a bedroom if he is flying for less than one hour each way. It's a small country, and even high level businessman fly around in very light jets for four passengers with no bathroom. You can rent a four passenger jet at the same airport the royals use for £2,600 that will take you round trip for the day to anywhere in the UK. When I see Charles spend £33,400 for an overnight trip to Belfast (310 miles each way), I think he is an environmental hypocrite. Does he need a plane big enough so that he can jog around a track for the one hour that he's in the air?

Are there really any genuine work from home opportunities with no initial payment or investments?
Q. Are there really any genuine work from home opportunities with no initial payment or investments open to UK residents? Share your personal experiences.

A. can you do book keeping or computer work or be a call center for a business or group of businesses? If for instance you had a secretarial services you could easily run it out of the home. taking messages and typing up things as well as doing simple book keeping for small business.
If you have computer skills the opportunities are endless.
You could do babysitting if you baby sat three kids at a 150 to 200 a kid per week that would be equivilent to a decent salary. This can also be done out of the home.
higher income people need a decent place to drop off there kids that don't have 20 kids they are baby sitting. If you focused on 3 high income families to watch there 3 kids you would have a nice income stream and work about 9 hours a day and be able to stay home.
If you are a reader you can proof read but I am not sure if there is professional criteria for that or if it even pays well?
You would have to call some publishers to ask them.
I like the idea of a call center that can be very lucrative.
But you will have to go get some accounts. The nice thing about a call center its not a heavy expense one or 2 phone lines would do it.
Well I hope this has you thinking anyways. I will warn you most endeavors at home require education because the activity you are doing for another is mainly communication if you are doing it at home.
There are a lot of highly paid professionals that work at home. However those professionals have set up their business activities that all the communication could be done by phone and paperwork by fax. I work as a real estate investor and 85% of my work is done at home. I love getting out of bed at 9 am and commuting to my office 15 feet away from the master bedroom to my command center. My tv's and pc screens and cell phones and fax machines and ect to follow world and local markets make leaving my home unnessesary. I know a lot of day traders and attorneys doing the same thing.
The new technologies sectors have so much opportunity it just requires an innovative mind and a creative ability to invent or add to what we are already using in the world today.Often people are just solving problems that current technology has. thigs like this can be done in a lab at home.
create a new invention then sell it to a needy consumer or company that needs your service. Think about you can do to enhance a product or make a product better. The ability to use that mind to create is powerful and keeping it thinking about the next big idea. Watch Donnie Duetche The Big Idea to understand what I am talking about. It is a tv show that discusses millionaire ideas and people that come up these ideas.
The education isn't easy to get if you already have kids but I would highly recommend paying the price to get it so you have the ability to earn high level of income at home. PS some education 2 year and 4 year programs can be done at home online!!! Low income might qualify for grants.
Good luck I hope this helps

so i'm looking to redo my bedroom for cheap currently the walls are orange, but last christmas all my presents
Q. were drk blue's. which i'm not a big fan of. especially not with orange walls =/. so what color should i paint my room to match it with the drk blue tapestry[sp?] and bed set? any ideas?

A. Blue and orange / blue and yellow / blue and brown do go together quite well:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/homes/design/design_inspiration/factsheets/309.shtml

http://www.bbc.co.uk/homes/design/design_inspiration/factsheets/119.shtml

http://www.bbc.co.uk/homes/design/design_inspiration/factsheets/310.shtml

http://www.bbc.co.uk/homes/design/design_inspiration/factsheets/321.shtml

But if you don't like like that idea try pale blue, white and silver, or blue and green.

How can I create an University DM Magazine successfully?
Q. Hello
I'd like to invest to publish a new magazine in China Universities.
It delivers to every bedroom free of charge. and it should like a real magazine. (I know many DM magazine has only Ads in the book).

And the profit comes from the Ads.

Please show me some suggestion, How can i do it successfully? and is there any successful one in US?

A. You need to find a publisher to publish the magazine.
You need to hire writers, salesmen and set up distrubition.

I would start with an online magazine for locals. You could have google ads on them and sell advertising space. You could have video feeds and articles. Here goes where you start.

1 Buy a domain
2. Setup of a web hosting
3. Create a website
4. Publish your website

For beginners I think yahoo web hosting is the best and easiest use. Yahoo has question and answer section that can solve most problems and direct phone line for additional support.

http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/smallbu...
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahttp://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/contactus...
http://geocities.yahoo.com

I would adevertise locally just like a storefront would.
This link is what I did to be successfull. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AsHLUlEo0hDw0kFFV6JxGgojzKIX;_ylv=3?qid=20071215180803AApbhK4

How to clean up my parents room?

Q. Lets see. They have a double king size bed or whatever, and 2 couches and a walk-in closet but it's really small. Were not really rich so I cant go out and buy anything nice as a gift. And I just want to be nice, for when my dad comes home today from his business trip, and my moms really stressed out. My brother and I are doing it. Hes cleaning all my siblings rooms, including him. Thanks in advance!

A. Your bedroom is a place where you would like to unwind and relax after a long, hard day and not a storage area or junkyard. But, most of the time, our bedroom becomes just that and intense cleanup is required to restore its charm. Cleaning a bedroom is not an arduous task; you just need the necessary supplies, a sound plan and some time.

Step 1

Gather all your supplies such as a basket or laundry bag to pick up all the things that don't belong in your bedroom. You'll need a trashcan, vacuum and glass cleaner to clean the windows and glass tabletops on side tables.

Step 2

Collect all the objects lying around in your bedroom that can be stored elsewhere. These can be toys, snacks or food items, extra magazines and books and so on. Place these items in a basket and whisk it out of the bedroom.

Step 3

Grab all the dirty or used clothing including towels, sheets, rugs, window curtains, comforters and so on and put them in a hamper or laundry basket. You can wash these later. In the meantime, set aside fresh sheets, towels and other necessary items.

Step 4

Pull out all the pieces of furniture that are not affixed or too heavy. Bed or closets, if too heavy to remove from the bedroom, at least move them around so that you can clean up the entire area.

Step 5

Dust the corners, ceiling, walls, windows, accent lamps, fan and other areas where dust, cobwebs and other junk can settle in. Also clean the assorted knickknacks and decorative items. Use a damp cloth or household cleaner to clean if the surface has unsightly finger prints, water spots or other marks.

Step 6

Dust the dressing area including drawers and chest, mirrors and night stand. Use glass cleaner for mirrors.

Step 7

Vacuum and flip your mattress over to provide even wear. Don't forget to clean under the bed.

Step 8

Clean your closets next. Remove everything from your closets, one closet at a time and wipe the interior with a damp cloth followed by a quick wipe with a dry cloth.

Step 9

Store the items appropriately in closets or drawers, if they are lying around in the bedroom. Folded and pressed clothes, accessories, jewelry, cosmetics, etc. are some such articles.

Step 10

Use fresh sheets to make the bed. Replace the curtains, towels and rugs with washed items.

What is the most you would spend on bedroom set or dining set?
Q. I like Victorian Style or 18th Century furniture with dark wood (mahogany or cherry). I like lots of design and carvings.

The two dining sets that I looked at (table with leaf and 6 chairs) cost $2,100 and $2,400 with tax.

The bedroom set that I looked at (king bed including frame, headboard and footboard, dresser, mirror, five drawer chese and one nightstand) cost $2,500.

What's the most you'd spend on each of these?
I'm talking formal for both of these.

A. I too like Antique Furniture. In fact I sell it. My favorite is Empire, (usually mahogany or Cherry). I paid 2000 for
an inlaid French Set, (not Louis or Provencal). 8 ft Armoire
marble topped nightstand, 5 foot parqueted bed.
My Empire bedroom cost 2000 20 years ago. It's now worth
10. So the prices sound good. As long as you really love
the pieces.

A. You don't have to have all the furniture matching.
Get a small round table to use as a bed side table.
Go with a light wood.

How do you know you are getting a good mattress?

Q. My husband and I have decided to finally invest in a nice bedroom set. We are looking for a king size bed. My question is, how do you know you are getting a good comfortable mattress that is going to last? Is it all about the money you spend?

A. Tough call. My wife and I have had a king bed set for about 9 years now, and even though we bought one of the higher-end models and turned the mattress religiously, it's wearing out. We've had to put one of those TempurPedic knock-off toppers on it just to be able to sleep on it. The new rule is you can get 10 years out of a good mattress, but which ones are good? All I can tell you is we just spent a night at the Radisson to try out the Sleep Number Bed and we've decided to get one. They're not cheap -- the California King we want is $2,300.00 -- but they come with a 20-year limited warranty, so we figure that's about the same as buying two "regular" mattress and box spring sets. I also have a colleague who just bought a TempurPedic bed set and said he'd never get anything else (but they're expensive too -- I think he said he paid $3,000.00 for his).

Can a soft side water bed fit convential bedroom furniture?
Q. I have a Eastern King soft sided waterbed. I have the 9 leg metal frame. I am looking to purchase a new bedroom set from Rooms 2 Go or some place like that. Can I purchase a bed with the wooden rails to attach to the metal frame. I know that the weight of the bed will not allow me to use the wooden rails from the new bed.

A. You can make the rails work.... you just need to make sure you have center support legs on the rails.... most good wood bed will come with slats and 1-3 center support legs.... You just need to add more so that you have about 9 center support legs....you can use wood or even bricks....

How much does an RN make living in Hawaii?
Q. Also how much can a person making that wage afford to spend per month on rent. I am a Caucasian with two children that will be moving to Hawaii in 2010, just now beginning to plan! Where are the best places to live?

A. I think 60K is a pretty good estimate for a starting point & depending on your skill set, what kind of job you have, If you works nights, etc, it could be > 100K/year.

You can probably count on spending at least 2K in 2008 dollars for a 2 or 3 bedroom apt. If you have kids in school, you will want to work w/ someone who is knowledgeable about school districts when you decide where to live. There are many parts of the island where I would be very comfortable living as an adult, but I would not want to send kids to the public school in that area. I think you would want to be sure that there were a fair number of haole (Caucasian) kids at the school to help your kids fit in. Hawaii Kai would be a good bet, but it is one of the more expensive neighborhoods.

In responding to what some of the other posters have said...
Many people who move here do not fit in well for a variety of reasons. There have been several posts on YA recently about racism in Hawaii. I would recommend typing that into the search box to see what people have had to say on the subject. Some people move from the mainland & fit in w/o a lot of difficulty. That has been my experience. Others have a tougher time & a lot of folks do move back before 2 years. In my experience, if you make it > 2 years, you are likely to remain here. I will acknowledge that it is much harder for school aged kids to make the transition than it is for little kids or adults. Not being comfortable in a multicultural environment is not the only reason some folks don't stay. "Rock fever" is another reason, though I have never minded living on an island in the middle of nowhere.

PS... fwiw, I forgot to mention that the major Honolulu hospitals are all unionized

What are some DIY or home decor ideas for pea green paint?
Q. I have a full can of pea green paint and nothing to do with it. I was going to use it on my walls but after i bought it i realized it wouldn't look very good with what i have in the room, I also don't want to buy a whole new set of furniture but i don't want to waste the paint either. I love doing DIY projects and crafty things but i can't seem to think of a good project to use the paint any ideas?

A. You can try to alter the color by adding white or other bases or you can try and work with it like these picture did..

What plant should I get for my bedroom that can grow edible fruit?
Q. Nothing that requires too much care but I really want a plant that grows nuts, fruit or something.
(as you can tell I don't know that much about plants)

A. good edibles don't grow in the shade of an inside room.... you'd have to have an amazing ammount of sunlight coming in your windows ALL YEAR or have a 'grow light' set up in order to grow anything edible.....

here's a growlight setup.... got room for it?...

http://www.grit.com/uploadedImages/GRT/blogs/Debbie/Grow-light-setup.jpg

that one just gets little seeds to sprout little plants... to grow them thru to harvest it's like this....

http://www.byledlight.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/Grow_Light_Garden1.jpg

you'll notice that these are mostly herbs, lettuce etc....but if you do want to give it a shot, I suggest a cherry tomato ....

oh, wait.. you said 'not too much care'...

all plants grown inside require care... how much is not too much?....

Where can I get small recliner or couch?

Q. I have my bedroom setup with a 42 inch hd tv with my computer plugged into using it as a monitor, I am currently sitting on a futon to sit and control the tv but want something more comfortable that is small size and reclines?

A. Uuuummmmm have u tried a furniture store?

What else should i get for this setup?
Q. Currently my bedroom setup is a 19 inch Toshiba LCD HDTV with a Xbox 360 connected via HDMI, a Sony VCR/DVD Recorder combo via component cables and a HiDef cable box via component cables. Is there anything else i should get thats under $75? And can component cables carry a HiDef picture for the cable box since theres no HDMI or DVI?

A. component cables can carry an HD 720p or 1080i picture, which is the best you'd be able to view on that set. You wouldn't be able to differentiate 720p/1080i from 1080p, which is full HD, until the tv is upwards of approx 37 inches.

I presently have cable TV and want to set up a computer in the bedroom to watch cable TV. How do I set it up?
Q. I figure I need a tv tuner card with a coaxial input. I am just wondering if that works or do i need another decoder box from the provider ( Optimum). Presently there is a coaxial wire in the bedroom already. The TV outside has the coaxial to decoder to TV setup. Would i need the same for the bedroom computer setup?

A. If you want to receive more than the standard nonscrambled channels, you will also need a cable box.
If all you want is the standard channels, then you won't need the box.
I suggest you look at the Hauppauge tuners-Google them.
If you have media center, make sure you order the MCE version of whatever tuner you want.

How to make storage space in the bedroom?
Q. I have a pretty small bedroom. The thing that sucks is I don't have a closet. So I have to put all my shoes in a corner and all my clothes are in dresser drawers but they don't all fit so they are everywhere. Any suggestions?

A. There are lots of beds on the market today which integrate storage into them. Ones with drawers that pull out from under the bed and even storage built into the bed head.

Ive seen some pretty cool bedroom setups which have a whole wall of shelving/integrated wardrobe doors in the bed head area.

Good luck :)

I want to redo my room help!?

Q. ...unfortunately my entire room has like a lightish pink carpet ...and removing it would take way too much work

so does anyone have any websites I could go to that helps coordinate wall paints and colors or just suggestions in general on how to make a classy modern bedroom with a light pink carpet =/

I'm 18 and enjoy the bedspreads on urbanoutfitters.com if that helps anyone with the type of taste I might have

any websites with great bedspreads would be great too! just help ah! thankyou!!!

A. I think you have the right idea. Find a bedding set you love that has a little pink in it and it will look like the carpet was intentional and then you can take your other colors from the bedding and color match them for walls and chose matching accessories. I'll see what bedding I can find that you might like.I realize some are not like those at urban outfitters but I'll post them and you never know you might like them..

These are a little pricey but I don't know your price range so I'll include them...

who sings the song emily?
Q. it really old

A. I think you may be referring to the 1974 hit "Emma" by the group Hot Chocolate.

We were together since we were five
She was so pretty
Emma was a star in ev'ryone's eyes
And when she said she'd be a movie queen
Nobody laughed
Her face like an angel
She could be anything

Emily... Emma ... Emily
I'm gonna write your name high on that silver screen
Emily... Emma ... Emily
I'm gonna make you the biggest star this world has ever set

At seventeen we were wed
And worked day and night to earn our daily bread
And ev'ry day
Emma would go out searching for that play
That never ever came her way

You know, sometimes she'd come home so depressed
I'd hear her crying in the back room
Feel so distressed
And I'd remember back when she was five
To the words that used to make
Emily come alive

Emily... Emma ... Emily

It was cold and dark December night
When I opened the bedroom door
To find her lying still and cold up on the bed
A love letter lying on the bedroom floor
It read: Darling, I love you
But I just can't keep on living on dreams no more
I tried so very hard not to leave you alone
I just can't keep on tryin' no more

Emily ... Oh, Emily ... Emily

Glad to be of help. Cheers.

What does this dream mean?
Q. Ok, the dream is like two separate parts. Sorry it's so long.
Part 1: Me and my friend Jacob are standing on top of this old Egyptian type palace dressed in Pharaoh and princess garb. He was telling me how it could all be mine if I just except his advances and stop teasing him with my revealing clothing and become his queen ( *shiver* ). Denied to be touch by another man for the rest of my life. I shock my head and ran away from him. Leaving him there with a look on his face that was a mixture of disappointment and pain. On the other side people were still building the palace and a small child was wondering around looking lost. I went to the child and kneeled down to his height and began talking to him. Asking him where his mother or siblings were. The boy had the exact same hair color as me because it looked coppery in the sunlight, the same ivory skin tone as me also and beautiful big dark chocolate colored eyes. He just smiles at me saying something in French ( I'm French on my mothers side. But, I don't speak the language. ) then ran away to somewhere. I began walking around until I came upon my brother playing football with some boys from our high school. I ran to them when one of the boys got hurt and the boy turned out to be an older version ( he is fifteen now and he looked eighteen in the dream ) of my crush Ryan. I asked if he was ok and he replied with a quick and short "Yeah.". The the scene switched to me and my friend Emily running in a coliseum with her yelling at me to tell my crush I like him even though I keep telling her I think the crush is fading quickly. She yells "You like Ryan!" and the boys were spectators and Ryan had a shocked look on his face. And, that's how the part ended.
Part 2: I was standing in front of a floor length mirror in a large and unfamiliar room putting on a dress that looks like a mades out fit but with a very short skirt. I looked to be about eighteen. A bell ran causing me to run into the hall where an old and proper looking women with graying hair stood with an impatient look on her face and slapping her hand fan made out of what looked like silk into her palm repeatedly. I gave a little curtsy and waited for her to give me my instructions of the day. She spoke saying "My son is having a party this evening so I want you and every other person on our staff to be on their best behavior. So, go down stair and help the other girls get everything set for the party." with a stern look upon her face. I went down the spiral staircase that had gold painted railing and at the bottom stood a man about five year older then me making him twenty-three. He had long dark brown hair that reached the top of his shoulders and dark chocolate colored eyes. He wore a full black suit but instead of the regular Italian leather shoes you see go with it he has on full black high top Converse. When, I reached the bottom of the steps he grabs the top of my arm and pulls me toward him. He whispers something in my ear and gives my earlobe a quick nip. He drags me to a bedroom. When, we enter the little boy and two girls a little older then him are sitting on the bed. One has the same hair and skin color as him but gray-blue eyes ( which is the eye color I have ) while the other has long dark brown messy curls and dark chocolate colored eyes. The children get up and leave the room but I hug the little boy before he exits and tell him to find me before he leaves. The man closes the door and locks it before shoving me down on the bed and kissing me aggressively. He pulls the skirt of my dress up and then starts biting and sucking on my thighs as I try to unbutton his suit jacket and dress shirt. Then, it switches to both of us unclothed with him on top of me and my nails racking down his back with servants knocking on the door every ten minutes saying his mother wishes to speak with him but he just keeps telling them to leave him because he has move important matters to tend to. After we were done having our...uh.."fun" we were just laying in the bed with me on top of him with him rubbing circles on my back like people did when I was a child to get me to relax and fall asleep. He said "I wish we didn't have to hide this, Katherine." with a southern twang a little thicker then my own making me think he was from Tennessee or something considering I live a state or two above it. "I know but your mother would probably hire someone to kill me if she knows I am the one who deflowered her baby boy." is what I replied as I kissed his neck. He got up from the bed and went to the wardrobe and pulled something out and came back to the bed handing it to me. It was a dress that looked exactly like the one I was going to wear to my freshman homecoming dance but decided to skip and a mask like the one on the cover of Masquerade by Melissa De La Cruz. I looked at him with confusion on my face and he just kissed me and said "Come to the ball with me tonight. It is a masquerade and even if they cannot see y

A. You weren't kidding that it was long. What I see here is that you have been looking things up or watching tv programs about the pyramids and the roman coliseum. The man that promised you everything and you ran off from is a future wealthy person that you may deny in the future thus missing the opportunity to be loved and wealthy. The little boy (first) that you kneeled and talked with could have been a future glimpse of your son or a child you will meet. The old woman is your conscience telling you to mind your etiquette and you will be welcome to up and coming events. The man in bed with you will be a wealthy athlete..a short term relationship. The masquerade invite means that you tend to hide things.

This is all I get from your dream. Hope it helps.

A. Sounds like a fun time was had by two. However relationships as much as we think they are only between two people involve our families too. If you circumvent their approval you risk running into all sorts of issues and problems that are stated or inferred. The issues include pregnancy, disease, and whether there is more than the lust for fun there. Lots of luck. Do the right thing and the Creator will approve and your dreams will show that.

Is it common for art gallery curators to want to see artist home?

Q. Im new to the art gallerie world. Ive created enough pieces so now I'm sending out sample booklets with my work to galleries. Now a curator wants to set up a meeting to see my place. Is this common practice in the art world? im really excited but then again i want to be carefull.

A. Wanting to see your home would be unusual. Wanting to see your studio (where you create the work) is fairly common. It would also depend on the nature of your work (studio visits are less important if you're doing watercolors but very important if you do installation sculptures.)

If you do your work from home, you might want to consider having the curators come over (but only showing them your work areas, not your bedroom) and perhaps having your parents/roommates/friends nearby just to be safe.

What would need to be on a website about New Zealand to make you visit it often?
Q. I live in New Zealand, and plan to make a website about it. It's mostly intended to advertise for my little bed and breakfast business, but I would also like to show picture galleries, and have an online shop on it. Is there anything you would want to see on a website like that? Maybe a clock displaying local time, and stuff like that? What else would be good, and moreover, what would get you hooked on it?

A. We're going on holiday to New Zealand in a couple of weeks and I'm finding some of the websites I look at a bit frustrating for a few reasons, so I've got plenty to say on the matter..........'oh no' I hear you groan!!:

- lack of photos or bad photography. I've never been before and I've heard it's a beautiful country but half the time the campsites or hotels I see don't show the area to its best advantage (a couple of shots of a cramped looking bedroom, no pic of the outside of the site or property, no pics of the local area or they'll show 5 pics and two will be a couple of sheep in a field - I think most of us know what a couple of sheep look like, we want to see photos of the landscape and property LOL ).

- bad websites. I hate sites with music, 'flash' trying to be too trendy, and photos that you can't either do a slideshow of or be able to tab through (or they're too small to be able to see properly). You want info, info, info, photos, maps, weather info, facts for the newbie visitor, perhaps travelling times from the major airport/city, walking distance to the local pub and restaurant and more photos! Some sites have lots of photos but each one opens in a new window and you have to close it before you can click on a new one - I know it sounds trivial but if you're searching through 40+ sites and one isn't easy to navigate then often you'll skip it and move on to the next one.

- regarding info - you say you have a B&B, so I think it's a good idea to state clearly how many people each room will sleep (if it's a family room, does family mean 3, 5 or 9?). A photo or two of the room set up normally and for the maximum amount of people is also useful.

- a clock with local time on as you mentioned is a good idea, I like that. Weather info would be good too if you can do it.

- I mentioned walking distance to the local pub earlier and I think this is quite important. We like to think that people aren't going to drink and drive so if they know that they can stay at your place and be able to walk to a few decent pubs/restaurants, then that's a good thing and can be an attractive prospect for some when booking a place to stay - likewise, if you're in the middle of nowhere then you need to mention that and give driving distances to local amenities.

Phew, I think that's all I can think of for now. Sorry for the essay and for being an internet bore, but over the years I've spent a lot of time on the internet for tourism reasons and there are so many bad websites out there. I do think people are doing themselves a big favour if they have a good site which is easy for a person to use.

What are some fun crafts you can make that can use to decorate your room?
Q. I recently got into making my own furniture and decor for my bedroom lately. I realized it saves a lot of money and its make your room more personal. So I wanted to know if you guys had any cool ideas of some useful things to make that can go in my room???!!!

A. Try a chair covered with a soft, washed denim fabric. Use denim accents in the room, such as trimming a group of red pillows with fat denim cording.

You can even use a denim look to cover the walls. There are paint techniques for chambray and denim-look walls, which will be a perfect accent to a room with a cowboy theme or for a young lady who is crazy about horses.

Denim is a fabric that immediately imparts the feeling of comfort, so it is perfect for bedrooms in particular. Use denim comforters and pillow shams. You can even find chambray sheets and matching curtains.

Try using an old ragged pair of jeans to make valances for the windows, or dress up your curtains with chintz covered cornices.

Keep your walls in the neutral family of colors. Try soft camel beige or a subtle yellow. Pine furniture works well, or you can paint your old wooden furniture in light golden tones.

Furniture that is more casual than formal works better for this particular style. Other teen room decorating ideas to choose from are:

Garden styles. Use floral prints, upholstered furniture, floral area rugs, and balance the look with plain walls, floors, and curtains.

Casual styles. These include rustic themes, sports, nautical, particular hobbies, Americana . . . the possibilities are limitless. For example, a style could be developed around a collection of autographed baseballs, teapots, wooden duck decoys, trophies, art posters, etc.

Decorating with black and white. This style uses black as an anchor to set off a dramatic decorating look.

This teen room decorating idea is for the drama queen or king teenager in your household. Use a black and white floor, crisp white linens and comforters, and upholstered chairs. Set off the black with accents in red or warm gold, but be sure to pick up the black and white theme in lamps, pillows, picture frames, and other elements of the room.

Contemporary styles. These dictate clean lines, sculptural furniture, high ceilings, and geometric artwork.

Make use of brick walls and ceiling pipes. Avoid anything with floral patterns, ruffles, carvings, or traditional details. You are aiming for the look of an art or museum gallery, utilizing a bold, creative, and sculptural style.

Cottage style. This teen room decorating idea works especially well for teenage girls' rooms. Plaid or country-style fabrics work well with white furniture and rustic accent pieces. This style can transform a bedroom into a mini-vacation spot!

European or Parisian style. This is a glamorous style that invokes old world sophistication. It uses furniture and accent pieces from the rococo, baroque, neoclassical to the more modern art deco and cabaret designs.

Your main colors are black, white, and gold, with jewel tones as accents. Choose vintage-style furniture, such as a black or cream painted dresser with gold accents. Fabrics include silks and brocades. For fun, add a few vintage posters of old Parisian nightclubs, French train station signs, and black wrought iron shelves and tables.

The list of possibilities is endless. Find a good time to sit down and go over these teen room decorating ideas, and soon you will find yourself and your teenager working together to reinvent their bedroom.

Any good ideas for a fun and sexy bedroom makeover?
Q. I'm looking for any ideas for a fun yet sexy bedroom makeover. I've seen different red and black sets that looked very tempting, but I want to make sure that I wont dislike this 2 months from now. I am very open to any suggestions weather it is what paint colors to use, maybe a website with good cheaper furniture? Maybe great pictures? Any more ideas would be great! I can't decide! Thanks! =)

A. Paint your walls a gold color and go with a jungle theme.

How is the beginning of my story?

Q. The wedding was a good month away, and yet preparations had begun for it already. Why Amirah, the eldest daughter of a business elite wanted to marry in a bungalow situated in muggy Pakistan when she had glamorous London at the tip of her fingers, was beyond Zara.
She did not understand Amirah. She was so ahead of Pakistan, so far away from it, and yet she chose it as the place for possibly the biggest day of her life. Zara herself dreamed of places far and beyond the borders of Karachi, Pakistan. The world far and beyond the sweeping bungalow, which seemed to get smaller and smaller the more she knew of it with each passing day. The bungalow was a beautiful place to live in; it had a majestic entrance consisting of a tall, wrought iron gate. A towering wall enveloped the building, with thick green vines clinging to its creamy exterior. Upon entering, the foyer led to a towering staircase, twisting up to the second floor, each bedroom roomier than the next. Zara loved the way the stuffy, humid afternoon slowly turned into a cool, breezy evening, with a single giant palm tree swaying in front of the bungalows wide terrace. She loved the way the Shamsi family gathered on the lawn as the sun slowly set behind them, while they sat back in roomy lawn chairs enjoying tea, the smaller members of the family giggling and running over the grass enjoying a game of kabbadi. The way Danya, the bungalows head cook moved feverishly throughout the kitchen from morning to night, her plastic flip flops slapping against the shiny tiled floor.

But none of this was hers.

Though Zara spent most her days and nights inside the bungalow, she had no business of calling it home. Her home was a small, dingy shed she shared with her parents and her younger sister, Zoya. Unlike the glittering, three-layered chandelier dangling inside the bungalow, a single, faded out light bulb dangled on a short piece of wire inside her home.
But beside all this, Zaras father was happy with what he and his family had, Allah has given us much to be thankful for, mashAllah Hed say often, He gave us the Shamsis,
Zaras father was a simple man clearly leading a simple life. He would sleep on the sheds floor on a pillow stuffed with leaves that left marks on his wrinkled cheeks, That is the way the Prophet Muhammad slept, Hed beam. Besides his servitude to God, he held servitude to Abdul Shamsi, the owner of the bungalow.
Our family has served the Shamsis for as long as I can remember, When he was a young boy, he would go to the Shamsis bungalow and tend to the garden, do chores, and had been nothing more than a servant, until Abdul Shamsi himself had found him a wife and given him a place to call home, even if it had been just a dingy shed.
I never wanted to work for the Shamsis, Zaras mother, Farida, would scowl to her. I wanted to do something on my own, all my life and I knew I was capable of it. If I hadnt been forced by my father to marry him, I wouldnt be here today, Every time this came up, she would knead the dough a little harder, shed toss the rice in the air a bit more forcefully, spilling some around. She would teach her two daughters the little she knew, one of them being sewing. When Zara would return after a long day of chores at the Shamsis, Farida would be sitting inside the shed, the light bulb glowing directly over her head, she would pat the spot next to her and Zara would skid down next to her mother. After watching her mothers hands working through the fabric, the shiny silver of the needle poking back and forth, she too would hold the needle in her hand, and she too would make a stitch here, a stitch there.
Who taught you to sew, mama? said Zara, impressed by how fluently her mothers hands worked. If her mother was an expert in anything, it had to be sewing.
She smiled, Just like you have a Farida in your life, I had one too,
Nani jaan taught you? She mustve been very good,
She was, Farida sighed, Theres not much a woman can do here,
Zara nodded in agreement.
Especially women like us, the best we can do is to find something one of us already knows, and then pass it along, hoping to keep the chain going, Im only doing my job,
Youre doing a very good job mama, did you see that new blouse I made? Zara asked.
Farida beamed, patting Zara on the head, I did, and it was beautiful, She had smiled so hard that it made her beady black eyes look even smaller than usual, one day you can open your very own boutiquemake clothes of your ownname it after someone special
Id like that very much,
Like what? Zaras father had just appeared after a long, tiring day at Bata shoes.
Your daughter would like to own a boutique one day, said Farida.
Azim frowned. There will be no such thing,
And why not? You want her to rot like the rest of us? Her voice rose, bouncing off the sheds thin walls.
Dont you dare say such things, you evil, ungrateful w

A. Well, the beginning seems fine, you just need to change a few things:

First, change "the daughter of a business elite..." to something like, "the daughter of a wealthy businessman"; "elite" refers to a group of people, not a single person, Amirah is the daughter of one man, not a group.

Second, the plural of the family's name should be "Shamsis", not including the apostrophe. Now, the phrase "...the Shamsi's bungalow" is correct because here, the apostrophe and 's' denotes possession. They are the owners of the bungalow, but if you're writing about the group as a plural, use "Shamsis" (I never wanted to work for the Shamsis... Our family has served the Shamsis...)

Other than this, the story is good so far. Keep writing. Hope it helps!

How is my story so far?
Q. The wedding was a good month away, and yet preparations had begun for it already.
Bibi, look at these marigolds, you wont find better in all Karachi
Oh, Mrs. Shamsi, name the color and it is yours, however you look stunning in this one right here, and its bringing anan indescribable glow
A waterproof tent? That certainly will require more rupees,
Flower vendors, food caterers, venue organizersthe list simply went on, the gates were left open as these people and alike bustled in and out, day and night.
Why Amirah, one of the many daughters of a wealthy businessman, wanted to marry in a bungalow in sultry Pakistan when she had glamorous London at the tip of her fingers, was beyond Zara.
She did not understand Amirah. She was very ahead of Pakistan, so far away from it, and without any second thoughts, she had chosen it as the place for possibly the biggest day of her life. Unlike Amirah, Zara could only dream of places far and beyond the borders of Karachi, Pakistan. The world far and beyond the sweeping bungalow, which seemed to get smaller and smaller the more she knew of it with each passing day. No doubt, the bungalow was certainly remarkable; with its impressive pair of wrought iron gates. A tall, sturdy wall enveloped the building, with thick green vines that clung to its creamy exterior. Upon entering, the foyer stretched to a soaring staircase twirling up to the second floor, which branched off into many bedrooms, each one roomier than the next.
Zara loved the way the stifling, humid afternoon slowly turned into a cool, breezy evening. She loved the way a single giant palm tree swayed in front of the bungalows wide terrace as if welcoming and bidding farewell to the many guests coming and going through the wide gates, or how the Shamsi family gathered on the lawn as the sun slowly set behind them, while they sat back in roomy lawn chairs enjoying tea. A pack of children often giggled and ran around the grass enjoying a game of kabbadi, keeping the place alive and careless of the time flying by. Or the way Danya, the bungalows head cook moved feverishly throughout the kitchen from morning to night, her plastic flip flops slapping against the shiny stone floor.

But none of this was hers.

Though Zara spent most her days and nights inside the bungalow, she had no business of calling it home. Her home was a grimy flat she shared with her parents. It had a single, lumpy mattress that Zara and her mother slept on, or rather tried to as they spent most of their nights tossing and turning, often left facing each other and finding each others wide open eyes. Her father had grown accustomed to spreading a thick sheet onto the floor after a days work, hed sprawl down, too exhausted to complain. Zara and her mother would often catch him snoring peacefully, only to listen to his routine complaints of a searing pain in his back and neck the next morning, One day hed wake up with no backbones, Zaras mother would say.
Unlike the magnificent chandelier dangling inside the bungalow, a single fluorescent light tube clung to one of the walls in the flat. There was a small stove that took most of the room in the so-called kitchen. A tiny, cheap cooler lay next to it that Zaras father had bought. A couple mismatched utensils, several pots and pans with missing handles and burnt surfaces were stored in a single cupboard over the stove. There was hardly ever any water coming through the sinks, and Zara would regularly bring water and leftovers from the Shamsis. The three of them would sit on the rackety wooden table to eat and drink, atop three wooden chairs that creaked with their weight.
But beside all this, Zaras father was a grateful man, Too grateful for his own good, Zaras mother would snicker. He was a man contented with what he and his family had, Allah has given us much to be thankful for, mashAllah Hed say, He gave us the Shamsis,
Our family has served the Shamsis for as long as I can remember, hed say this as if it were a very grand accomplishment. When he was a young boy, he would go to the Shamsis bungalow and tend to their wide garden of bright flowers and small trees, pregnant with berries and fruit. Hed do the chores he was ordered perfectly, leaving Abdul Shamsis white Honda spotless. Abdul Shamsi had been so pleased with his servant that he had found him a good wife and had given him a place to call home, even if it had been just a dingy flat.
I never wanted your father to work for that Shamsi, Zaras mother, Farida, would scowl to her. I wanted him to do something on his own. I knew he was capable of it. Besides, if I hadnt been forced by my father to marry him, I would be with a man who would have realized it, Every time this came up, she would knead the dough a little harder, shed toss the rice in the air a bit more forcefully, spilling some around. Snowboard trip to Steven's Pass what are the best lodging/cabin spots?

Q. Planning a weekend snowboard trip to Steven's Pass. What are some great places for small cabin rentals? It will probably be 2-4 people on this trip.

A. This site has hotel/cabin reccomendations, as well as returants and activities!

http://www.destination360.com/north-america/us/washington/stevens-pass.php

No matter what activities visitors enjoy, a visitor who is enjoying the great outdoors on their Washington State travel will love how close a Washington cabin rental can take them to the incredible scenery and nature of the Pacific Northwest. Washington is a state that is filled with outdoor attractions like cruises, skiing, camping and hiking, as well as white water rafting, so the Washington cabins you can rent, be it small and basic to luxurious and comfortable, are a great alternative to staying at impersonal chain Washington hotels.

Skiing is popular in this state, due primarily to the many Washington Mountains, which are home to very popular ski resorts. Areas around Stevens Pass see a lot of traffic headed for the slopes. Wise homeowners have converted their homes into Washington cabins, or simply built lodging on their land, and have enjoyed the popularity of the area they live in.

The Harmony Lodge is a great example of a Washington cabin rental, although all the different ones have varying sizes, shapes, and locations. Harmony Lodge is set in a wooded valley, and 50 acres of private land wrap you in privacy and isolation if that is what you see. There is an area of the Index creek that also belongs to the cabin, so you have this area for your own use. This is one of the more secluded rental cabin Washington has, so you get the freedom and seclusion that people who come to enjoy Washington State travel will seek out.

Also in the area is Maggie's Cabin, situated on the Skykomish River. This Washington Cabin rental is a short 23 mile drive from Stevens Pass. There are two bedrooms and a hot tub in this 700 square foot cabin. There is also a fireplace that has a stove insert for a truly rustic experience. Add a kitchenette and a television with a DVD and a VCR, and you don't feel like you're totally roughing it.

Compared to any other rental cabin Washington has, the Sunset Falls Cabin is spacious. You can sleep up to four adults when you utilize the futon, which folds out to a queen sized bed. There is an original log cabin on the property. The Gold Digger Cabin can only hold two people, but it is warm and romantic nonetheless. There is a Jacuzzi in the bathroom, and a wood stove to curl up in front of. A great view of the summit of Mount Index can be seen from the living room of this Washington cabin rental.

If you'd like to rent one of the Washington cabins that have waterfront views, the Bells Beach cabin on Whidbey Island will give you great views of the Saratoga Passage. Outside the front door, you can see seals, herons, seagulls, and tugboats. There are also great views of the sunrise and Mt. Baker. There are not many rental cabins Washington has with great views of the water, the sunrise, and a mountain, so the Bells Beach cabin is a great place to stay. You can relax on the easy chair and look out at the lovely scenery through the picture windows, unwind in the relaxing hot tub and reflect on the remaining things you want to experience on your Washington state travel excursion.

Only the rich can buy a home in California?

Q. I've seen many new home developements with vaulted ceilings, mini-vineyards, huge houses on little tiny lots...Why can't some developer built some homes for us regular people?
A normal sized home with plenty of closet space and a decent (not designer) kitchen that is set more than 3 feet from the neighbors house.
I realize that they need to make money, but more people could afford homes in this state if the builders weren't catering to people who already own 2 and 3 houses.

Your perspective/opinion is welcome.
I know what you mean about the 'cookie cutter' houses. My father just bought a new one and there are cracks all over.

Also I have looked at older homes and people have been doing the same thing. Fixing them up with marble this and corian that. Unless you buy a major fixer yourself.
10 years ago I could have bought a house in the SF bay area on my $10/hr job. Suppose those days never to return?

A. They have a certain amount of LAND for a development. That's all they have, and they are not getting any more. For this, they paid $X, and once they have it, it's going to be years going through the permit process.

Furthermore, it's silly, but people buy a property based upon the structure and the amenities. Well, it's not silly to make that one of the factors, but people go overboard. They will buy a 5 bedroom 2800 square foot house on a 3000 square foot lot before they'll buy a 3 bedroom 1800 square foot house on a 20,000 square foot lot. The same structure is really worth a lot more when it's on a bigger lot, and even a lesser structure may really be worth more if it's on a bigger lot, as is likely to be the case here. Add travertine and granite countertops and the fact that it's *new* to the 2800 square footer, and you've got people willing to pay $800k for the first property as opposed to maybe $550k for the second.

The developer knows this at least as well as your average real estate agent. The developer has all of this researched down the the last centimeter of the lot lines. They are not in business to build wonderful homes that people are going to be happy in forever; they are in business to make money, and the blinged-out houses on the smallest possible lots bring in the most money for that developer. The fact that you're the very first person to live in the house is a further attraction to the kind of person who buys new cars, which is to say, most of the population, and it's worth serious $$ to that developer's bottom line.

Nor is the developer alone in this endeavor. They wouldn't make the most money from homes like that if people didn't pay the most money for homes like that. You want the real culprits in this scenario, look around you in any large crowd. It's all to easy to blame the developer, but the desires of the average home buyer and the regulatory environment both played huge factors in getting the state of new housing to where it is now.

There are ways to potentially fix the problem - but none of them has any measurable political support. Your best bet is to find a good buyer's agent to defeat the problem on a retail level, that is, for yourself, because wholesale solutions are not likely until people get rational about solving society's problems.

How do we increase the value of our home?
Q. We bought a home 3 years ago and are trying to make changes to add appraisal value to our home. We have a inground pool, 4 acres, Nice house.

When we moved in there wasn't much landscaping that had been done, so we added 30 6 foot trees. At a point right now where we would like to use our money and time wisely. Need to know the best thing to increase the property value. We have 3 baths 4 bedrooms, all new appliances, unfinished basement.

Please help!

A. First stop spending- now! Trees are nice but 30? Not a cost effective benefit for so many. And not cheap either.

Pools many times are a liability unless you live in California or Florida. Keep it since you have it. Is there a pool house for the equipment? Do you fill the pool with city water or well water? A well is usable for washing the car, filling the pool and a landscape sprinkler system. You'd need a small well house that can be made of stacked stone veneer for effect. Include a latern light near the door and 2 side windows; it is a pump house and needs to look it. Also need a small heater to prevent freezing or the ability to winterize it easily yourself.

Nice landscaping adds curb appeal, and gets buyers in the door. Red and yellow blooming plants that flower throughout the warm months give color to an all green yard. Tulips, phlox, day lilies, tall grasses strategically placed are good. Monkey grass is good for areas you want to keep low maintenance- use 2 varieties for visual effect. Use pine needles for mulch to keep unwanted grasses out of flowering beds. Never use a pine bark, pine chips or soft woods for mulch; soft wood attrack wood destroying insects. Landscaping lights work too. Presure wash the side walks, gutters, eves, sofits, and siding. A nice area with a gazebo is inviting in the back yard area. No wild animal concrete statues, people, St Peter or Cupid statues are ok. An arbor is a nice touch too.

Master bed rooms: fresh paint- use light to med. tinted earth tones. Master baths need a masculine feel, never feminine. Same for remaining baths. New cabinet hardware, a window over the bath tub to let in natural light is good, tile in bathrooms is good- staggered pattern, wood floors in master bedroom is good. A garden tub is good (whirlpools are not cost effective an seldom used) as is a low rise (short step) shower with handicap bars in the shower and a seat to sit on. Use elongated toilets throughout, again include handicap bars. You open your home to a lot of other people even aging people if you make it friendly up front. And use lever handles door operators.

Basement: Add a playroom and an up-flush half bath. A bar sink would be good but not cost effective. Just be reasonable in what you do, do not make your home the biggest on the block. That drags your value down and the neighbors up. Use floresent lighting where ever possible, even flood lights. This helps keep operating cost down.

Kitchen: you have already updated the appliances. Cabinet hardware is a good choice, minimal or no wall paper, inc the dining area. Red encourages eating, that is why restaurants use red, avoid it unless you are running a restaurant. Tile floors are good, use a varied pattern, not a straight line square but off-set, it gives the eye something to see. Under counter lighting is good. Lots of counter top and cabinet space, Lazy Susan is a so-so, if you have it ok, do not add, but a well planned pantry with wire shelves and spaced efficiently will be a hit. Laundry room off kitchen is good. Counter tops of Avonite or Corian is good, granite is over kill and now dated. Light cherry or honey oak cabinets are good, wood darkens as it ages. Did I say NO BLUE?!?! NO BLUE!!

A 3 car garage is good, an out-building for lawn equipment is great- with electric, and this may well substitute for the 3rd garage area if you have it not already. This can also be a rustic looking structure, board and bat type siding and stacked stone at the front around the doors but not over the doors, use more wood. Hardy plank is good too, if the home is brick or stone paint the garge the same color as the trim if Hardy plank is used. Design it deep enough for a boat, min 24 ft deep. Add a motion sensor exterior light as well. I also am fond of a 30 ft. flag pole with Old Glory waving proudly, be sure to have a flood lamp positioned to illuminate it at night. That may look real good bentered in the front yard. If there is room, in the front yard a circle/horse shoe shaped drive adds usable, functionable parking area. Line both driveway sides with monkey grass. Landscaping flood lamps that shine "up" the wall bewteen windows on the front is ok or shine on a feature like maybe the front door is good. Paint the front door black, or fire engine red. No antique brass, shiney brass is ok brushed aluminum better. Green is a last resort, never purple, or some other color. OK to match shutters with front door, they are paintable too.

These are good cost effective things you can do, add appeal and get a good return, but no return will yield 100% the first year. All will enhance the opportunity to get the best price when you go to sell down the road. Always think of your exit when you go in to buy. What ever issues the last owner had, unless you correct them you too will have to over come them.

I've seen and sold a lot of homes. You'd be amazed at what people do- and are proud of it. Just do not make your inprovements too specific to YOUR tastes. You can go to the Parade of Homes in your area or open house and see the things I've mentioned to get a feel of what to do before you invest. Once you have seen these and made your plan THEN SPEND money, because now you have an clear objective and will more wisely buy.

Best wishes to you in your effort.

how can I cool a 50sq ft room?
Q. Is there any other way than getting a room air conditioner for cooling a small room? The room is in my garage and granite I do live in California where it get up into the 100's. I just don't know how I would put one in the garage? Is there any way of cooling the room? Any cheaper way to go? I dunno if I can put a air conditioner if I don't have a window at all... please help thanks
NO WINDOWS

A. If it gets to 100, you need a/c. You don't have to have a window but you will have to cut a hole in your garage to accommodate the a/c. Window a/c are so cheap these days and economical and are 120. With the economy setting, you can just set the temp for everyday use and it won't come on unless it gets that hot. I prefer window units because of that. I turn the one in the room I'm in lower for the day and turn the one in the bedroom down when I go to bed. You can put in ceiling fans and do all sorts of things but there is nothing worse than a room that's 100, air moving or not. Just be sure you have a plug in where you cut the hole...and one that doesn't have a lot of other stuff plugged into it and beware of bearing walls.

What would you want in your dream house?
Q. Witch rooms would you want to be very large (what size)(what do you want in it) and whatever. The one with most detail get the 10 pts

A. Kitchen: I would like a huge kitchen with the theme pale yellow and polka dotted dishes. The counter tops would be a nice granite color. I would have a cook to do the cooking unless I wanted to bake something then I would do it.
Living room: I would want lots of NON-leather couches and a large flat screen tv, a typical coffee table, the color scheme would be fallish and each wall would be painted a different color, one a brownish red, one brown, one orange and one a darker green. I would also have a fireplace on one wall.
Music Room: Hand painted guitars on a white wall for the walls, guitars, an electric keyboard, a natural grand piano, a flute, a set of drums and a recording studio.
Den: Couches and a coffee table and a giant iMac. Walls painted a pastel green, white couches and a white carpet, white desk for computer.
Dining room: Painted a deep red with a mahogany wood table that seats 8 people, hardwood floor, floral paintings.
Bedroom (my room): Would change all the time but for the most part the walls would be white and splatter painted ALL different colors. The bedding would be black and speckled all different colors, the carpet would be a pastel green. I would have a desk like a do now, big and a bulliten board built into the top part and trophies on top of that. A LARGE wall to floor book case with all my favorite books. a vanity desk with a mirror above it where i would brush my hair and change my earrings. The wall art would be mostly my art and posters of surfers (GIRL) surfers :). Complete with a walk-in closet and my own bathroom. (OH ALSO A FRIDGE :D)
Arcade: Complete with a Wii, PS3, xbox 360 and a flat screen tv for those. A trampoline and a pinball machine too. The walls would be white and I'd draw with crayon on them all different pictures. (Maybe video game characters like Mario)
