I really wanna decorate my room. It's so boring. I live in an apartment, which sucks because I can't paint it! Does anyone have any ideas on how to decorate it? Plus, I'm on a low-budget!

How much is the (average) rent for a 1 bedroom apartment in Paris?

It really depends on many factors, location, size, etc. You CAN get some starting at 280€ a month, not the best conditions, however, this may or may not include charges. So rent could be 280€+ch/cc. Usually MOST decent, if style really matters, will start around 550€+ch/cc a month. Some do charge weekly, especially of cause for holiday rentals.

If you are going to look around for an apt, you need to look for a T2, it means 1 bedroom apt, there is T2 bis but that means inc an office. Studio apts are just as pricey and studio is studio in French.

If you want to search online and you don't know french, keywords should be location immobilières, might get more search hits then if searching in English.

edit: Cabal is right, however, I have found some really sh*t quality ones in Paris for dirt cheap, but I wouldn't find them liveable, if you have "expectations" but if you just want a roof over your head, just temporarily until you'd have the money, it's ok.

If you find ones starting at 580, which I have seen for myself, the charges will vary depending on the agency.

Kitchen stuff is always good to have first and garbage cans, things like furniture can usually wait (you find a lot of uses for Rubbermaid totes and coolers) although a bed is always nice... I found the best thing to do when moving into a new place is to get your bedroom set up first... That way, when the rest of the place is a disaster from moving, you'll have a calm place to escape to...

Yes ur Xbox 360 games will be set in HDTV, just switch the plugs to HDTV(you did get the premium Xbox 360 didnt ya?) And ur regular tv channels are in standard based so it will look blurry, well it looks blurry on my HDTV.

While my family is from Toronto and I've visited many times I can't claim to have lived there. I have lived in Halifax for many years and will vouch for the fact it is a much more human city. It has a reputation as a friendly place, and people are generally open and welcoming. There are six universities there so the population is young, with lots of entertainment and cultural options. It has easy access to outdoor recreation. I'd take issue with the statement that there are "no sports teams": the major professional leagues are not represented but the city has great university sports, one of the country's top major junior hockey teams and minor league pro basketball.

While the larger city will naturally have more job choices, the unemployment rate in Halifax is traditionally lower than Toronto and most eastern Canadian cities: 6.0% last month, compared with 7.9% in Toronto. Halifax can be a more economical place to start out. A one-bedroom apartment downtown averages $958 in Halifax and $1500 in Toronto. Transit fares are 50 cents more per trip in Toronto. What aspects of customer service? Retail jobs are generally fairly easy to get, but almost all will pay minimum wage, and most are not full time. Bilingualism is not a necessity here, but depending on the job it would definitely be an asset. Housing in Halifax proper is getting to be quite expensive, and depending on when you are looking is quite competitive. We have four universities here and when the students flood in apartment hunting can get insane.

You've got plenty of time to look. If you can, set up both a job and an apartment before you move. If you or your husband work in a company that has offices here maybe a transfer would be a good bet. Of the two, I'd say find a place to live first. It's difficult to land a job without an address/local phone number. If you have a black headboard then you might want to add some black highlights to the dresser and nightstands to blend them together...paint the body of the dresser and nightstands black leaving the drawer fronts and tops the natural pine and add some great black iron hardware. It will look great with the headboard.

What color bedroom furniture would go best with shiny walnut floor & neutral walls?

I'm going for quite a "zen" a minimal trendy but sophisticated look, I've been struggling to find complete furniture sets that I like, and I've pretty much narrowed it down to either oak or black furniture, oak is my number 1 choice I think, but I don't know how it will look, the lighter oak furniture with the darker walnut floor, could it clash? Have you tried anything similar? Would black be too dark and need to be broken up with rugs? What would you suggest? Thanks!!!

Suggest using a blending of natural woodtones for the room, and not a stark contrast like black. Medium to dark oak have warm tones which would settle nicely with the walnut flooring, as would natural pecan and natural cherry. Avoid the intense wood stains, which can alter the warmth of the natural wood color and be too much contrast to the flooring.

These are woods which have been blended together throughout the rooms in my home, and over the years, the slight darkening of the wood color has only enhanced each piece of furniture. Enjoy your newly decorated environment, no matter which woods and colors you choose.

Cute bedspreads! First of all, I would suggest going with lighter wall colors. Maybe like 3 light gray walls and a red/blue wall (matching the bed color) to bring the room together? If you did all of the walls a blue or red, your room would look smaller (and lighting can make the bed and walls clash)

I have found lots of free furniture building plans but they are scattered all over the net. Search for free furniture plans, or use bed, or dresser etc.. You will find them. When it's free on the net it takes time to find but worth it when you do.

Any ideas on how to cover/hide a television in a bed room?

I just found a bed room set at Ashley's furniture store and it is amazing. The problem is it doesn't have the matching armior. I was thinking about putting a flat screen tv on the chest that goes with the bedroom set, but I don't want it to be visible. Any ideas on how I can hide the tv when it is not in use?

Find a carpenter who can make a small cabinet that would match. It would be similar to a dart-board game style...

Or check with the manufacturer, see if they have a website, and perhaps you can special order the armoir. If you're willing to pay, there is always someone willing to sell.

Maybe, you'll just chance upon a matching article on ebay or Tuesday Morning that can be modified?

How Do You Remove Cigarette Smoke Smell From Furniture?

I inherited a very nice bedroom set. But, the person who gave it to me was a heavy smoker. I would like to know what I can use to get ride of the smoke smell? Although I believe the outside of the pieces are sealed, the insides are not.
Just to clarify, this is all wood furniture, no upholstery is involved!

It's an Urban Legend that Febreze is hazardous to pets. Use it on upholstery only, not wood. Old news from 1998, so disregard that hazardous to pets thing all together - that is false. You can read about it on snopes, the urban legends reference page:

Wood will absorb odors without a doubt, so the parts have been finished will need a good cleaning, maybe 3 good cleanings, to get the years of nicotine off. I would start with cleaning it with Murphy's Oil soap, the directions are right on the bottle. It smells good and is an excellent wood cleaner. You dilute it with water and it's very gentle stuff.

If any of the furniture is upholstered, you can have that professionally steam cleaned to get rid of the smell. The same people that clean carpets can come to your home and clean anything else that is upholstered, so you might want to call and ask them about it.

Over time the smell does fade, but you'll have to keep up with the Murphy's oil soap to keep the wood nice and clean. I used it on wood floors and furniture. Go ahead and try febreeze on upsholstery, but keep it off the wood.

I would like to say IKEA but there are just some items there that are not sturdy like bookshelves and some tables...some items was bought at IKEA.

What my parents did was just kept on hunting around any furniture shops. Until they found quite some pieces...and at a affordable price too.

i want to run away from home?

Ok so long story short, my mom and dad want to kill me. I kniw it seems that i am trolling, but i am not. PLease hear me out! I came home from school, and heard my mom and dad in the bedroom saying that they wanted to kill me, my older sister, and 2 younger brothers. All i heard was,

Ummmmmm... next week will be sufficient. It will give us enough time to cover ourselves. The plastic gloves that i ordered are on their way. The chloroform and weapon are ready to go.

I ran out and went to my bathroom. I started to cry and totally melt down. I told my sister, and suggested hat we run away. I said i would ask what you people think. So i did. My sister has about 600 dollars in her wallet, and a whole bunch of gift cards to walmart and walgreens. I have abot 250 dollars, and my brother Jaxon (9) has about 200 saved up from selling things at his school. And Jameson has about 50. We all have an assundry of gift cards and coupons. I am soooo scared!
Me and Jill have planned a bit. We all bring a big bag, suitcase, and back pack. We would pack bags of cereal, tge 40 oz bags, a bunch of water bottles that we could refill at public stations. All that, along with other various food like granola bars would go in each big bag of ours. We would pack essentials like an extra set of clothes or 3, pads/tampons, toothe brush, tooth paste, brush and flossers. I would also pack educational books so we can "keep up" i guess. That stuff would go in the backpacks, we have pretty big back packs. In the suitcase, we would pack thick quilts and blankets. We would layer clothing, for the girls: 2 cup bras, 3 camis, an under aromor shirt, longsleeve shirt, short sleeve shirt, a vest, 2 sweatshirts, both columbia, and a heavy jacket. For the boys, 3 muscle shirts, a long sleeve, a short sleeve, 3 sweatshirts of different sizes, and a heavy jacket. I feel we could really do this. I also feel that if we dont get out of here, we might die. Dont ask me to call tge police, cuz i wont. Please dont say we are foolish and childish. My sister is 18 by the way, I am fifteen, and my brothers are 9 and five. My parents have also been acting very coldly towards us lately, and not coming home till we are in bed and asleep. Please give me/us advice!

I am so stressed out about having bed bugs 2 months ago?

Q. Two months ago I found out we had bed bugs. I was getting bit for some time but never could find anything. I have come to the conclusion it came from the Uhaul we used to transport our box spring. We spent 600 dollars (including the encasements) to get rid of them. The box spring encasement ended up ripping and I started seeing them again! So they came out and treated. Since then we threw the box spring out. We are pitching the rest of our furniture in our bedroom as well. This has traumatized me. From packing up everything and washing it all to just emotionally being scarred. I am pregnant as well so you can only imagine. We are moving and I am afraid we still have them even though I have not seen them. I set a homemade trap under my sons crib to see if any are there. What else do you suggest. What are your stories? Did the exterminations work? Did you throw anything out? Anything would be helpful!

How do I get rid of headaches from looking at the computer screen all day?

I have a new job where I'm staring at the computer for about 7+ hours. I'm experiencing severe headaches from this in the evenings and am wondering what can be done to help with this.

i work I.T. for the federal government so i had this problem alot when i started. but heres what i can advise.

if you have access to natural light(a skylight or window) open it and let it in, not only will the fresh air help you feel better but the natural light is less painful than the florescent.

turn the brightness down on your monitor a tad, most of the time its set at the maximum but it can actually be around half that and still be quite usable. this really helps if your office(or bedroom, or whatever) has dim lighting.

take a break. i know this sounds silly, but it really does help, every hour or so take a 10 min. break, if you don't have time for that, take a 5 min break. grab some coffee, or a snack.this really will help the most, even just taking 30 seconds to read a poster or a piece of paper gives your eyes a bit of time to relax. this helps alot if you eyes water when you close them or look away from the screen.

adjust the text size on your computer. even a 10% change lets your eyes focus on something large, making you squint less.

drink more water. i know this sounds unrelated but keeping hydrated helps get rid of alot of headaches, yours may not only be from the computer, but from dehydration as you sit there for hours on end.

and best of luck with the new job, dont be afraid to talk to your boss about it, if he has the same sort of job he'l understand completely.

also most states have guidelines and laws about worker protection, find a copy for your state and take a look,

[He said] he had an early meeting with the Yankees [and] he might be allergic to the pillows in the hotel bed."

Six days later, she claims, Olbermann e-mailed her to tell her never to contact him again. "I practically begged him to explain what I did wrong. I told him I deserved some kind of explanation for such a dismissal, but I never heard from him again." She said she's since heard from six other women who say they had brief sexual relationships with Olbermann.

I like books with action, romance, and I like it to be about people close to my age which is 14. I also don't feel like reading a book that is too realistic. I have already read twilight, harry potter, the clique, maximum ride, unfortunate events series, the luxe, and I think that's it. What are some good ideas to "stage" a home that is for sale?

I am packing everything personal up,cleaning and organizing but I need some simple and elegant ideas to "stage" the home so that it is more appealing to buyers.

1. Clean - it is the most important step. Make sure every nook and cranny of your home is spotless. This also includes cleaning out your garage if you have one.

2. De-clutter - Not only should you remove obvious clutter (like papers strewn on a desk) but you have to think about furniture as well. Too often people have too much furniture in a room. It makes the room appear small. If, for example, you are 2 dressers in your bedroom, pare it down to one. Put the other dresser and contents not used currently (season clothing) into storage.

An often missed area for decluttering,is the inside of dressers, cabinets, and closets. Hard to believe that some buyers would look in your dressers since they are not buying them but they do. They are also trying to assess if they will have enough cabinet storage and closet space. If your cabinets are chock full of stuff, it gives them the impression that they will not have enough storage if they buy the house.

In the kitchen, don't forget that decluttering also means clearing off countertops as much as possible. If you don't eat toast everyday, pack the toaster away. Same goes for other kitchen appliances that we may keep on the counter for convenience even though we don't use them daily. (Pack away that electric can opener and use a hand held one until you sell the house.)

3. Deodorize - Make sure your house smells fresh, clean and inviting. This may mean spraying Febreeze on your sofa, drapes, etc. You can add pleasant odors with candles and/or fresh baked goods.

4. De-personalize - Pack away personal items like family photos. Replace them with neutral art work. You want prospective buyers to see themselves living in your home, not your family.

5. Neutralize - It may be time to paint that gorgeous red wall beige. Though it may go well with your decor and taste, remember that not all buyers make like what you've selected. If you go with neutral wall colors, again it makes it easier for the potential buyer to see him/herself living in your space. This also includes rooms that are very masculine or feminine. It may work better for you if you replace your beautiful floral bedspread with something that is more gender neutral.

6. Update/Modernize - You don't have to spend a lot of money here but you should look at things like lighting. Are your bathroom lights for example current looking or do they scream 1970s-80s? Same goes for kitchen, dining and hallways. For a few bucks, you can make a huge impact for the positive.

7. Curb Appeal - Don't forget that a lot of buyers will not come into your home, no matter how great it looks on the inside, if they are not impressed with the exterior. Again, this can be accomplished on the cheap. Cut the lawn, pull the weeds, remove dead plants, plant pretty potted flowers and put them on the porch, paint the front door if necessary.

How dated are your exterior light fixtures? Again, something newer but not necessarily expensive could make a world of difference.

Buy a nice new welcome mat to invite the guests in.

If you have a deck or patio, don't forget to embellish this usable square footage of your home. Clean the deck or patio, remove what is not necessarily essential (perhaps the grill if it is not in outstanding condition, or cheap plastic chairs). Stage the area so that it is inviting - you can purchase inexpensive patio furniture, or if the area is small, you can get a nice cheap bistro set for under $100.


8. Choose Real over Fake - If you have any silk or plastic flowers/trees, remove them from the house. If you love them, pack them away. Put real plants/trees in their place. Put fresh flowers out as that not only is beautiful but it helps with odor control.

Have fun with the project. Look at it as an opportunity to get a head start on packing. Just remember that it is called "staging" because it is all an act. That is, it is not how you live day to day (you probably don't keep your dining table set for a party of 6 unless you are actually planning on using it that day but setting it for an open house sets the stage for how the potential buyer can entertain in the home.) My husband has an old furniture set (chest, dresser, mirror and headboard) from the 80s. It served as our furniture when we got married and for baby furniture for both of our kids when they were little. It's sturdy, but very dated. What should I price it for?
I'd like to just give it away, but my husband insists it should be sold. I think he's being unrealistic, but I've never sold furniture before.

Any hints on what you've paid for an out-of-style yet very sturdy and well built set of bedroom furniture?

I'd suggest getting a few good photos and placing it on craigslist, maybe $100 per piece if in good condition ($400-500 total?).

If you don't get a response after one week, close down the ad and put up another one for $50 less.

How much a discount I should get if any?

I went to Value city furniture to purchase a bedroom set for$3147. It was that much because I added an armoire for $899.99. At that time they had enough armoires in stock for me to get. Over two weeks later I get a call from them saying the warehouse no longer had any more armoires and they were discontinued, and I could get the one on the floor. I have no idea how long it has been on the floor or if its in good condition. (I will see tomorrow).

Ask them to take off $150.00, they will probably come down to $100.00. I can't see them not taking something off, when the alternative could be risking the sale.

I have a light cherry bedroom set. The comforter has a garnet base with golds and darker reds. I have wood floors. And my wall decor is mostly reds and golds as well. Right now I have a marigold yellow color but I'm starting to realize that was the wrong choice! What would better suit this room and make it more calmer?

My style is traditional. I want a medium cherry. I like panel beds, not sleigh beds. But most panel beds are boring... need something with a little bit of curve on sides, not just a big box look. How much might it cost to rent a bedroom set?

I'll be staying in this place for 7 months, but then I'm leaving to study abroad in Spain and I don't want to have to pay the storage fees after I leave.
All I need is maybe a queen sized bed, a dresser, and a nightstand. Nothing too fancy.
But then of course when I come back I'll need more furniture too, so should I go ahead and buy some cheap furniture and just pay the storage costs?

I'm assuming you've already bought bedding, if not, maybe something like this:

For furniture, try ikea.com - it will be inexpensive and you'll be able to get the night stands, dressers, and desks there. I'd go with either white or black furniture to complement the bedding.
You can also try walmart and target if you are concerned with price.

Wall decorations- The bedding set shows wall hangings which can be purchased at the same site as the bedding (beyond-bedding). In addition, you can buy decorative throw pillows, windows treatments, Funky Zebra Fabric Memory/Memo Photo Bulletin Board, and even lamp shades

Frames - Buy these anywhere. You can get these very cheaply. I'd suggest a $1 can of spray paint so you can change the color of the frames for a customized look (I'd spray a few black, a few white and perhaps a few hot pink - though you could easily paint a zebra design - cheap and easy)

As far as accessorizing goes, keep in mind that a little zebra goes a long way. If you have zebra print bedding, you may want to consider solids for the lounge chair and/or throw and accent pillows. I'd pick up a lot of solids for accessories (black or white vase maybe with hot pink flowers) again, solid colored picture frames. Walmart also sells cork boards. You can paint these or cover them in a zebra fabric (or complementary fabric) and embellish it with grosgrain hot pink ribbon.
