How much are these beds only without the bed set just the bed alone.?

Q. My dad bought me this ugly brown wood Boy bed and im trying to change his mind into buying this black one:

http://www.ashleyfurniturehomestore.com/catalog/product.aspx?group=KidsFurniture&category=KidsKidsBedroomSets&id=B119SET1&spi=0&ref=search-t

& this is the one he bought me a brown plain boy bed:

http://www.ashleyfurniturehomestore.com/catalog/product.aspx?group=&category=&id=B191SET1&ref=product-t

Can you please tell me how much the bed cost on a TWIN size bed please and which on cost the most/ im a girl

A. Don't buy it! Run the other way. Ashley furniture is the WORST furniture on the market. It will fall apart in no time at all. There is NO real wood. It is either particle board with a veneer about the thickness of a sheet of paper or it is compress card board. Look for solid wood. The Chinese are excellent at camouflaging particle board to look like solid wood. BUYER BE WARE!

The retail on that bedroom is probably about $799. to $999. I can tell by the picture it is junk.

Sorry, it looks pretty buy don't be fooled.
NEVER BUY ASHLEY FURNITURE!

Where in Detroit was Home Improvement set; and is it really as cosy and middle class as the series makes out?

Q.

A. Tim Allen, whose real name is Time Allen Dick, was born in Denver, but moved to Birmingham after his father as killed by a drunk driver circa 1965. Tim graduated from Seaholm High School in Birmingham, circa 1972, before he went to attend Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo.

While at Western Tim fell into the company of some characters that led him astray. Time was arrested and convicted for cocaine trafficing. He served a little over two years in federal prison, before a judge decided to take a risk and paroled him. He was "lucky" to have committed his offense before Federal sentencing guidelines restricted judges discretion.

Tim moved to Royal Oak where he started his stand-up career as well as being a tv commercial actor. Tim did work for KMart, Jeep, Detroit Edison, a local pizza chain and a number of car dealerships.

In 1989 or so he was featured on his own Showtime special called "Men Are Pigs", I think. It was shot at the State Theater in downtown Kalamazoo. The important point is that the "Home Improvement" series as based on the personality he created for the Showtime Special.

In real life, Tim lived on Eastlady Drive in Beverly Hills, Michigan. His house was one house off of 14 Mile on the west side of the street. He sold the home about 1998-99

In the show, the exact city is never identified, but several times he does mention "Keego Harbor Heights" which doesn't really exist, although there is a little town called Keego Harbor.

The village of Beverly Hills, sits just south of Birmingham and is indeed a pleasant little bedroom community. Birmingham and it's neighbor to the north are exceedingly wealthy, cozy and prosperous.

How much does bedroom furniture (decent quality wood) depreciate each year?

Q. I need to sell my bedroom set....king memory foam mattress, head and foot boards, nine drawer dresser with a mirror and two night stands with two drawers each.

I purchased the set in 2005 for $5000.00

A. The best thing to do is to get on to Craigs List, Backpage.com and Ebay. See what similar pieces are going for. There is no Blue Book value for furniture or mattresses. At best I would say you would be lucky to get 40 - 60 percent of origninal value.

Master bedroom furniture is traditional dark brown (new), what color can I paint walls?

Q. Bedroom furniture consits of King size bed, two night stands and nine draw dresser. Considering to have 50" TV over dresser, sitting area and include small kitchenette.

A. Hi!

Brown is a neutral color, so basically, you can paint any color under the rainbow with it... it all depends on what you like. There are a few things to remember though, and I have a few suggestions... Hope this helps:

To have complete color harmony in any room, you need to have 3 colors: 1 dominant color (usually the walls), 1 medium color (usually the trim, molding, ceiling, furniture, etc.) and 1 accent color (usually decorative accents such as cushions, vases, throws, etc.). You can use the same color as your funiture as you do on an accent wall or all the walls... it depends on lots of things like your lighting, but we'll get to that later.

In decorating, black and white are not considered colors. White is the absence of all color. That's why you can match it with any color under the rainbow. Black is the mixture of all colors. That's why it too, can be mixed with any color under the rainbow. It's not necessary to have any white in a room, but it is very important that you have at least one black item: a vase, a picture frame, a throw rug, a cushion, a curtain rod, a lamp, etc.... you get the idea). The black will ground ALL of your colors together. So don't forget to add something black in your room.

What color of brown is your furniture: Black-brown (as in very dark espresso coffee), dark chocolate brown, etc. Since you didn't say, here are some color schemes that work with different types of brown furniture. The way to use them is for the 1st color = dominant 2nd color = medium and 3rd color = accent. Of course, you can use them in any other way you like, thought the ones listed here are best together in just this way. (after, you'll get some links to some nice color inspiration).

Chocolate brown & Terra-cotta & Taupe
Chocolate brown & Metallic Gold & Neutral bisque
Chocolate brown & Delicate teal & Teal blue
Chocolate brown & Teal blue & Gernaium red
Chocolate brown & Brick red & Sky blue

Espresso brown & Soft Orange & Coffee with cream
Espresso brown & Aquamarine & Silver
Espresso brown & Blushing Pink & Silver
Espresso brown & Hot pink and Icy Silver
Espresso brown & Candy apple red & Graphite gray
Espresso brown & Cinnamon & Pale sky blue

Light purple & Teal Blue & Geranium red
Cream & Earthy green & Cinnamon
Gold & Copper & Brownish Taupe
Coral brown & Cream & Rich brown
Brilliant yellow & Lavender & Light brown
Orange & Burnt Orange & Brown
Gray brown & Red & Cream
Orange & Dark brown & Metallic gold
Golden yellow & Sky blue & Velvety brown
Aquamarine & Butterscotch gold & dark brown
Cinnamon & Dark brown & Sky blue

This part would have been easier if you would have given us the style of furniture you have, but the pics should help for color inspiration... I hope you enjoy this, because I certainly enjoyed doing the research for this. I LOVE doing this !!!! :)

So... hope that was fun...

The best and most trusted way to find the color for any room, is to take an accessory or decorative item that will be going into that room: the duvet cover, the curtains, a painting, a rug, blinds, shutters, upholstered furniture, a lamp... you get the idea). Choose the item with passion. Make it something that you ABSOLUTELY LOVE, perhaps it was handed down by your great-grandmother or a cherished item you worked hard for. Or make it something that just SCREAMED out your name when you were shopping, so you knew you had to have it! Choose your color pattern from that item. And take it from there.

Keep in mind too, that color is an amazing thing! There's psychology behind color - it can make you have wonderful, relaxing dreams... or it can keep you from falling asleep, especially if you're already a wound-up 6 year old little boy! It can make you feel warm and comfortable, or hot and stifled. It can make you feel nice, fresh and cool - or it can make you feel like parts of you are going to freeze off. Color can be your friend or your enemy. And really, the earth can "shed some light" on us to help decide every color scheme. Here's how:
What direction does your room face - North, South, East or West? It makes a difference. If you've got the sun pounding down on your bedroom window, you'll want to stay away from warm colors, such as reds, yellows, oranges, etc. They'll make you feel too hot. Opt for cooler colors, such as blues, turquoise, cool creams... think mediterranean beach style here. In a room facing North, that doesn't get much light, you'll opt more for warmer colors and brighter colors: yellow, bright pinks, golden hues. Here's a most interesting link about how color affects us psychologicallly:

http://keelynet.com/biology/coloraff.htm

That's all I guess... Hope I helped you choose your color ;-)

You're always welcome to email and I'd enjoy knowing what color scheme you chose...!

What colors and themes go well with oak and dark green?

Q. I am planning on moving into a pretty small apartment with my boyfriend and we're planning on using his bedroom set which includes a nightstand and two dressers. They are oak with a dark green finish on the top. I want our bedroom to still look open and light and somewhat feminine. Too many ideas out there for dark green would make the room a cave so I need some ideas to make it look like the perfect mix of man/woman without washing out the light and space. Any ideas?

A. The main thing you need to do is find bedding that lightens the dark green up. See if you like any of these:

I think I like the first one from Penney's best. It's not tooooo feminine but it will lighten up the space. If your boyfriend doesn't like what you choose, be sure to tell him that in order for you to be happy and relaxed in the bedroom, you need to decorate it and he does want you happy in the bedroom, doesn't he? I just downloaded a custom bedroom set for the Sims 2. Now how do I find it in the game?

Q. I just downloaded a bedroom set from Mod the Sims 2, extracted the RAR file, put it in the Downloads folder, etc, etc. But my question now is how do I find it in the game? It's not in the buy catalog. Where do I find it?

A. It should show up in the buy catalogue; sometimes creators put the sets in collections, so perhaps you should look there too. If it doesn't show up I'd suspect that the download wasn't extracted or placed properly, or even that the download was corrupted.

What is the best honeymoon suite in Las Vegas?

Q. Okay people! My husband and I are looking for a nice spot in Vegas for our 1st year anniversary later this year.... If you have had a good honeymoon suite or at least a romantic suite (big tub, big bed, etc.) please let me know which hotel! : ) I am trying to look for some suites online but any suggestions from experience is great! Even if you have heard of any.. No rude comments please, thanks!

A. Price is everything, and weekends are higher than weekdays. The higher the class of hotel, the more luxurious the suite. Two good direct booking, with most discounting a few months ahead:
http://www.smartervegas.com/
http://vegashotelspecial.com/
and a local agent specializing in Las Vegas with some good deals:

You really can't go wrong if you review via Youtube and web pics.

Here is the Elara Hilton, formerly Planet Hollywood Westgate Tower 1 bedroom suite:

http://www3.hilton.com/en/hotels/nevada/elara-a-hilton-grand-vacations-hotel-center-strip-LASCSGV/accommodations/index.html
It is located attached to the Miracle Mile mall.
The 5 star hotel suites will all be fantastic.
Let's say The Paris:
http://www.parislasvegas.com/casinos/paris-las-vegas/casino-misc/red-room-premier-detail.html
There is not a bad room in the place.

Standard Rooms are either 2 queens or a king bed.
Even the suites at The Stratosphere have been re-done:
http://www.stratospherehotel.com/Hotel/Accommodations/Suites
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5hZRvqZW_o
At 50 seconds, see the tub at an Oasis Suite.
I think Trump Towers (set back from the Strip), Bellagio, Venetian, or any other 5 star can't miss.
The sky's the limit. It's all in what you can afford.

How about a "Great Room Suite" at Mandalay Bay?

With the assumption that a Sky Villa at The Aria is ridiculously expensive, even the 1 bedroom suites are amazing:

How do I get a water ring repaired on a wood dressing table?

Q. A visitor placed a glass on my granddaughters dressing table and it acquired a water ring. I don't know how to repair it and this was a gift from her great grandmother with the promise of the rest of the bedroom set if she takes good care of it. She did not know that her friend had done this and there were coasters available to her guest.

A. before you strip it down, try a little toothpaste, not the gel type. rub it in, wipe it off, see if it starts to take the ring off, if it takes some off, try again. My grandma used to do this. It's worth a shot. Good luck.

I'm buying new bedroom furniture, what kind of wood should I look for?

Q. Hi, I don't know much about furniture other than saying something is cute or not, but I was told by a friend that I should stick with solid wood construction and avoid veneers, but I noticed that there are a lot of different varieties of wood used in different furniture sets. So far I've seen pine, maple, oak, alder, cherry, and mahogany. What's the best? What makes it best? What makes other wood cheap or poor quality? And is there a site online that can help to better explain why I want a better quality wood for my furniture and what in fact makes it better? I'm really hoping someone can help me out because I want to buy a nice quality bedroom set and I don't want to pay top dollar for junky furniture either. Thanks in advance.
What about this furniture? Does it seem okay? http://www.mybobs.com/catalog/set_view.asp?packageid=585&room=bedroom

A. The wood species is up to you, what do you like? If you choose a posted set, the posts should be solid wood. Any panels you choose can be veneered or solid. Veneer panels are much better than they used to be. The glues used are better and manufacturers are willing to stand behind them. Solid wood panels are beautiful but may require multiple glue joints to achieve adequate width. This can create inconsistent grain patterns. If you see something that looks good at the store, but when you get it it doesn't look so great, go back to the store and demand the display. They tend to show the best.
Hope this helps.
I like Says Me's dovetails and mortises!

What type of wall art works well in a bedroom?

Q. I want black and white photos and wall art in my bedroom, but I'm not sure what kind of wall art. Like should i get a black and white picture of a flower, of nature, or just stick to art that is more abstract?

A. Black and white artwork is contemporary/modern style, adding pops of color with accents, rug and abstract art.
The desk from your previous post is in between traditional and modern so you can have any type of artwork that inspires you, it's best to choose colors that will be pulled from the artwork from a color in your bedspread and accents.

What kind of paintings for bedroom with simple traditional furniture in light oak?

Q. The bedroom set is plain, but has a traditional oak feel and tri=fold mirror.
Any ideas for an imagery theme, other than roses/flowers?
My man has no particular ideas for this room, so I don't have much input there...
Thanks!

A. A collection of family photographs in ornate oak frames might be nice. Children's artwork can also be framed to add a happy feeling to the room. You can frame just about anything. Frame several pieces of color coordinating fabric and hang in a cluster on the wall. Go to a flea market to scout for old picture frames of various sizes and hang in a group, one inside of the other. Or, take one large frame and hang on the wall. Paint your own picture directly on the wall inside the frame. Check out this web site for more bedroom ideas.

Is there a big difference between coffee and espresso colored furniture?

Q. I am trying to complete a bedroom set by purchasing different parts from different sets. The headboard I bought was beautiful, but the dressers and armoires weren't. So I'm putting together my own "set". I would consider my headboard to be an espresso color and there is a dresser online that is considered "coffee" color. There are other dressers that are espresso but I L0VE this dresser. If I were to purchase it would the colors be totally off?

A. Espresso is nearly black Coffee is a very dark brown ..As far as the colors being off...yes depends on their proximity and the lighting too. PLus the colors are wildly different manufacturer to manufacturer. It could work especially if it is multitoned.. What I would do is take a photo that accurately represents the color of the headboard and email it to them but their monitors could be skewed.

How do I match up a bed frame to my headboard?

Q. Recently I bought a bedroom set and it came with a headboard. The headboard supports a queen size bed. I had a full-size bed. If I find a good bed frame how can I know if it will attach? I guess they all come with something for connecting the frame to the headboard? I did find a bed frame at Wallmart but it it says it doesn't require the box spring. So, maybe it will be too high to connect onto the headboard.
Thanks in advance for the help,
Bruce

A. You have to match the frame to the headboard. If you have a queen-sized headboard and a full-sized bed frame, the headboard will be too big. If you want to use it anyway, you will have to make some adapter brackets.

What are some really good online stores that sell really cool teenage bedroom furniture at a low price?

Q. Im looking for something urban-vintage looking if that makes any sense. Like something out of Teen Vogue.
I DO NOT want PB teen or all of those well-known names.

A. Overstock.com can be a goldmine on some days. You just need to check back often. Also, smartbargains.com is a valid choice...again it depends on the day. I've had success and good customer service from both sites.

Aside from online sites, and even though you didn't ask, let me just add that thrift stores sometimes have amazing finds. My teenage daughter wanted 40s Hollywood and I found a complete set of headboard, triple dresser with huge round mirror and two nightstands for $120.00...not even a scratch on them.

What color bedroom set will go with a sandy/gold walls?

Q. Where can I purchase good quality but inexpensive furniture?

A. Not sure where you are located there is JYSK, Ikea, independently owned furniture stores for new furniture, Dent and scratch outlets if you are in a big city Sears, The Bay, The Brick all have dent and scratch outlets, Good quality furniture that might only need touching up with a stain pen. Oak, Ash or a light colored wood would look great or blue, yellow and a light brown.
Also checkout your local thrift stores, Value Village, and bargain finder ads and any freight damaged stores in your area.
You can also try Craig's list for your area, Freecycle, or kijiji in Canada

Rich people - How do you feel about yourselves?

Q. Also, how's it feel being rich? How do you feel your life is different than the majority's?
This isn't a religious question, nor do I want religion shoved down my throat. This is a question about money.
Ok. Let's go with top 15%.

A. Everyone's definition of "rich" is different.

To be clear, I consider my self very fortunate and am just trying to answer this question to the best of my ability.

My father is an entrepreneur (is a very self-made man considering he grew up on the streets of NYC) and my family owned 2 private jets, 2 boats, 3 houses (all with more than 6 bedrooms), several luxury cars, a limo, employed chef, employed house manager, and a full-time employed housekeeper at the peak of his businesses (this was maybe one or two years ago).

Assuming I meet your definition of "rich" than I feel like everyone else I know. I go to an all-girls private school -- one of the top schools in the country -- and I study 3 languages as well as do over 100 hours of community service yearly. Every person I know attends a private school and is into the same sports as I am.

I feel like my life is not different than the majority's lives because although I have had the oppurtunity to go to 10 of the 16 (used to be 17 until Le Bec Fin became casual) five star restaurants in the United States and have visited France, Italy, Nevus, Bora Bora, and the Caribbean (to name but a few), my life is not all easy.

I have a 6-figure trust fund to fall back on when I am 25 years old but I still work hard for my shopping money. I babysit, I do chores around the house, I help my community a lot, and I try to be as social as society allows a 13 year old. I have several designer purses, shoes, sunglasses, and other accessories but I still have to put up with my annoying parents: the same as the rest of the world.

What sets me apart from anyone else I know is that my dad has been charged with several white-collar crimes and one of his largest companies (worth $400 million) went bankrupt not long after my 8th birthday and now I have to put up with newspaper reporters calling my house (so our 4 phone lines are often busy), various people knocking on our door for interviews, and then I have to deal with the public humiliation that comes with this press attention.

I am no celebrity world-wide, but in my community my family is of very high status and the press says very very nasty things which no ordinary 13 year old girl should ever have to deal with.

You have to understand that although my IQ is among the top 0.5% and although my family's wealth exceeds beyond the top 5%, I do have a lot to deal with.

It's funny, I've always wanted an "average" life style with loving parents (I was raised mostly by nannies) and no involvement in the business world (my brothers and I already have a 1/4 share in over 10 companies and we are all under 18 years old, plus I signed my first $200 million contract in first grade at 6 years old). Whereas most people want an Upper Class life, the "American Dream" as some refer to it as.

I say my life feels different -- yeah. It feels good sometimes be wealthy -- of course. But at the end of the day, I just want shelter, food, and love. Anywhere my life goes as long as I have someone to love me, food to keep me warm and healthy, and shelter over my head I will be happy.

I know a lot for a 13 year old. A lot of people say I have grown up too quickly because of the pressure put on me.

-Catherine

Edit: To the person who said wealthy people never do anything for the community is 100% UNTRUE! My mom is a philanthropists which means she gives away money as her job to organizations. We are just ordinary people. My dad is sitting in his office downstairs right this second in a Nike tracksuit because he works out every morning at our gym. My mom is in her bathrobe in one of her closets probably picking out cloths to wear.

Why did you join the military?
Q. After high school I'm almost dead set on joining the army or marines, I'm going to join because for the obvious reason to protect and serve the USA and for the benefits but that's not the main reason also was it worth it to you? What did you get out of it?

A. I joined the U.S. Navy to get out of slower, lower Delaware and see the world. I did pretty much both. I was on 5 ships, stationed in 3 countries (my family was with me in 2), was on 6 of the 7 continents (never made it to Australia, but I did go to New Zealand), visited over 30 countries (some more than once), sailed 8 oceans/seas.
I've been as far East as Pakistan, as far West as Thailand, as far North as Nova Scotia, and as far South as Antarctica (spent 13 months there). I picked up 7 languages enough to get something to eat, get directions, shop, and carry on at least a limited conversation. I still keep in touch with a few folks I met overseas, and a lot of folks I'd been stationed with either by phone, card/letter, e-mail or internet IM. Some have even come through and stayed with us from time to time (one was here this past September for a few days, and we hadn't seen him since 1976).
That yahoo who said it was horrible...his own fault. The military is what YOU make of it. I was on one ship I had never wanted to be on...an aircraft carrier. I was on board during the last 10 months of my career, but I made it work. Even though I was away from my family 6 of the 10 months on board, I was able to hit a couple of ports I hadn't been to, and those I did get to, I went to see some old friends I had made (Israel, Italy, Egypt).
I worked for and with some jackasses, but we have those in the civilian world as well. One thing about the Navy....either YOU or the jackass will be transferred within 2 - 3 years. Can't do that in the civilian world. Either you have to quit or you or he dies.
After 20 years, I have pretty much free medical/medications for life, as well as my wife (she pays a $12 co-pay when she sees her doctor). I'm picking up 2 of her meds today....FREE. She called them in this past weekend and they're ready today. I drive on base, go to the pick-up window OUTSIDE, hand the lady my wife's military ID and they hand me her meds. Five minutes is the longest I waited.
When my 2 sons were born, we didn't pay a penny for the hospital stay (civilian hospital). There are some good buys in the commissary and the base exchange. Also the MWR office has good deals on tickets for various venues. I went to D.C. for a few days and stayed in the Navy lodge in an efficiency (kitchen, bedroom/living room/bath) for a lot less than a hotel would have cost.
What civilian company will train you, feed you, PAY you and give you someplace to live while being trained, then take you to foreign countries to visit or live?
Oh, and you can work on your college degree (if you want) while you're on active duty. The Navy has professors that go with the ship so you can take classes after working hours. Not sure how the Army/Marines work but I'm sure some places you can take classes on base, as well.
Good luck!

is my man a "lemon" or have i just been watching to much tv?
Q. I allways hear these great ways men have proposed to thier gfs.My bf of 4yrs were talking about buying a house and moving in together. He said "well if we are going to live together i want us to be married so will you marry me" and that was it.I said yes and he said good we will go tomorrow and pick out your ring.No asking my dad,i called my mom but he did not call anyone in his family, there was no going out to diner to celebrate nothing.1yr later im planning the wedding and he wants to keep it as cheap as possible with as few people as we can.I have never been married before,he has and has a 8yr old son with his ex.His divorce(or i should say ex) put him 20k in debt so this is the reason he wants to keep in cheap.I know he has done all this before but this is my first time and i just fell shorted.I fell like he just wants to get it over with and be able to claim married on his taxes again.I do know he put more time planing his 1st marrage.I don't expect a 30k wedding just some interest

A. Why of course you should dump him, because nothing says I love you like a big fancy schmancy over the top goofball wedding proposal. What did you want - he bakes a cake and then as you eat the cake -- with champagne he fermented himself -- aboard a hot air balloon, a skydiver whisks by and drops a note to you telling you to look down and when the balloon lands softly atop a grassy meadow a string quartet is playing Pachelbel's Canon and a horse-drawn carriage pulls up with your parents in it and he's already asked them to be there with flowers in their hair and a female magician shows up, swallows a handful of gold flakes and sh*ts out a lump of gold and he pulls out a fire and an anvil and hand-hammers you a ring and engraves "To the only woman I'll ever ever do this stunt for" on the inside and then the servants clear away the dishes so he can give you a foot rub and look at wallpaper swatches and bedroom sets from Pottery Barn with you as he feeds you Godiva truffles and then says, "Darling, your mom and dad approve - Dad, thanks for the talk - and I have thought it over for quite some time and I want you to know that since your amazing p*ssy, er, LOVE has changed my life forever, turning me from a schlump into one HELL of a great guy, that I realized as I thought deeply about you again today during my Quiet Think About You Time, that I cannot continue to draw oxygen any longer unless you are by my side, telling me not to wear those socks with that belt, saying "not tonight I'm tired", "I don't give bj's now that I'm a wife", and "no, your friends can't come over for poker this weekend, we're going to Williams-Sonoma for that cooking class I told you about last month", so my precious tender darling princess, will you do me this one last favor and make me the happiest man alive by granting me your hand in marriage?"
And when you say yes (notice all you have to do is say yes - nothing poetic or romantic or intelligent or creative or requiring effort or any of those other things you are demanding of him) - he sets off fireworks he made himself in Italy and flew back here to the states as the plane he built flies by carrying a banner reading - "I don't know how good I've got it with this woman" as the crowd that has gathered erupts in spontaneous applause?

Geezus - he wants to buy a house with you and marry you. He's sh*tloads in debt and you are whining about cash? Have your parents put forth all the cash for the wedding - that's tradition, especially since it is your first wedding! Sheesh!

Okay it's sarcastic, but stop expecting him to read your mind. Tell him for the wedding, look. I want a nice wedding. My parents are footing the bill. Here's what I want - a romantic limo ride and some doves and a nice cake. Or whatever. And then if he isn't excited, go, look they are paying so let's enjoy it a bit and get excited and it's important to me that you have fun and we enjoy this.
Enough with the "oh you didn't read my mind so i am going to pout" crapola. And if you want a guy to read your mind, this isn't the guy - so don't get married and torture him forever. Seriously.

Camping Room Ideas for a Toddler Boy?

Q. Our son has a camping theme room, fairly good size room. We painted it Limey Grassy Green and it has tan carpet and white ceilings with a white ceiling fan. He has 2 giant Leaves over his light wooden twin bed (leaves are from Ikea). He has camping themed bedding and bug sheets (although I'd be interested in finding another set of the bug sheets - we got the bedding set from Target on clearance a couple years ago). He has a matching lamp with scout patches on it. He has a nightstand and a dresser with a mirror on it. My dad is making him a canoe bookshelf (either red or navy blue). He just has regular blinds on his windows right now. Oh, and a big green bug light on his wall. Along the wall that the big leaves and his bed is on, we have his name letters - navy blue from Pottery Barn Kids. Any ideas for things to put on his dresser and bookshelf? Also, we could use 1 or 2 big pictures for his wall!

A. How absolutely FUN! I did one of my son's room in a similar theme many years ago! His was more western, but outdoorsy just the same. I used bright red bandannas to make a valance over his miniblinds, with the points hanging down. Looked really cute.

Some camping ideas...

Cover a round hassock/footstool in a wood grain pattern fabric, or use canvas and paint it to look like a tree stump.

Old bamboo fishing poles for a valance curtain rod, hang fabric (maybe a cute fish print? Run to the fabric store!) using thin rope or string tied as loops through grommets. Old oars would work too, or new ones brightly painted, and you could staple the fabric to the back and then mount them using L brackets over the window.

I love these! http://www.collectionsetc.com/Item50462.aspx

Glow in the dark decals in the shape of stars for his ceiling? They are available practically everywhere, check Walmart!

And where are the little darling's toys going? A little pup tent or teepee maybe? Or even a small inflatable raft or canoe to match the book shelf gramps is making!

A bug rug http://www.terrysvillage.com/tvweb/application?namespace=browse&origin=categoryDisplay.jsp&event=link.itemDetails&sku=91/3276&mode=Browsing&catDestinationJSP=/browse/categoryForward.jsp?categoryId=122686

Time can be directional! Paint a round clock face to look like a compass!

Oh, dear, I'm affraid I could go on and on the more I think about it. But one thing for sure, if it's a camping bedroom he NEEDS this, LOL! http://www.signals.com/signals/Shop-By-Theme_5AA/Nature_5AM/Item_Faux-Fireflies-Jar_HA7432_ps_cti-5AM.html

Just have fun with it! I'd love to be able to see what it turns into!

Should I cancel $6000 Pottery Barn Teen Order? Just found out furniture is made from MDF.?
Q. Should I cancell $5500 Pottery Barn Teen order? Just found out it is not solid wood.?

I am redoing my 12 year old daughters bedroom. She is getting all new furniture and bedding. She loves a set from Pottery Barn Teen. The set was very expensive but I decided to make the purchase anyways because the sales person convinced me that it is well made and solid wood. The description says solid wood as well. After I told my neighbor about the purchase she told me that Pottery Barn is not worth the price and that I am being mislead about the quality. She said it is mostly made of MDF and that for the price I am paying I should look for better quality. After she told me that she showed me on the website that if you click on Dimensions and care and scroll down it does say that the furniture is made of hardwood, veneer and MDF. For the past few hours I have been looking online for a similar look that is solid wood but I cannot find anything similar. I would even pay a little more money for quality solid wood furniture. I usually try to buy high quality heirloom type furniture. I have very little experience with Pottery Barn but I have always been under the impression that they are top quality. Was I wrong?

Here is a link to the furniture we just ordered.
http://www.pbteen.com/shop/teen-rooms/girls-bedroom-furniture/envsb-coraline-paisley-room/

http://www.pbteen.com/products/chelsea-vanity/?pkey=e%7Cchelsea%2Bvanity%7C2%7Cbest%7C0%7C1%7C24%7C%7C2&cm_src=PRODUCTSEARCH||NoFacet-_-NoFacet-_-NoMerchRules-_-

I ordered the bed, dresser, and vanity set. I also ordered some bedding and a few other things. I am considering canceling the order and trying to find someone local to make it for me. I would probly just have to buy the mirror and vanity/desk chair then. I don't want to go through all that trouble if this is good. Should I keep the set or cancel the order? Anyone know of a heirloom quality furniture company that has a style similar to the furniture in the link? Is MDF a bad thing?

A. You pay substantially more for Pottery Barn Teen furniture than it's actually worth. It's sort of like the Abercrombie & Fitch of furniture stores in the sense that you're paying more for a brand that is popular with teens than for the quality or originality of the product. I had several pieces when I was a preteen, and I loved some. Others were flimsy. My nightstand drawers could hold very little weight and got scratched up quickly. I switched to antique furniture made of solid wood when I was 13, and they are more durable. I did keep my PBTeen vanity and tall, revolving bookcase and now have them in the living room of my on-campus suite at college. They have held up fine. Most of the PBTeen pieces require assembly, which means that you can also disassemble them for better portability. Since they are made with MDF, they are lighter weight, which is also a perk if you're moving things around.

I would look for reviews of the specific pieces you ordered before deciding whether to cancel the order. Google the names and see if you can find feedback. Many online furniture retailers sell pieces that are made with MDF in China and shipped disassembled to the customer. Some are better quality than others. Whenever possible I think it's best to buy local, but depending on where you are, that might not afford you as many options. I would look into furniture shops in your home town that have a good reputation and see if there are styles your daughter likes in well-made pieces. Do your research on them. A lot of stores just sell the same cheap Coaster Furniture kinda of stuff that is still made with MDF. If you happen to be in the LA area I can recommend AFK Fine Furniture for Children, which also has pieces for preteens and teens. I have four younger siblings with rooms furnished by the store, and they're happy. As for bedding, PB Teen is fine. You can also look at Bed, Bath, and Beyond, and even places like TJ Maxx, Target, and IKEA. They often have surprisingly cute options.

Your daughter has a nice eye for style. I hope all works out with her room.

Also try looking for decorative items at antique shops or tag sales, sometimes people get rid of great stuff. Places like Marshalls/Tj maxx might also have a few things that fit. You're lucky we're coming into halloween season now, you might be able to find really cute stuff (dont get junky cheap stuff tho) . Im talking check places like Pottery barn's halloween section (http://www.potterybarn.com/shop/accessories-decor/halloween-accessories/?cm_src=productsearch) Lots of great stuff there, its kind of expensive but if you don't want your room to look cheap you're going to have to spend a little ;) Also check out Martha Stewart's halloween section, shes goth as fk! Need decorating ideas for black bedroom furniture-please helpl?

Q. I have a small bedroom with a black bedroom set-queen bed, nightstand, dresser, and armoire. The walls are white with tan carpet. I went out and purchased a sateen black down comfort with a set of soft pink sheets but Im not sure Im going to be able to use it because there is just way way to much black. Can anyone suggest any ideas. Im just wanting a room that is pretty soft and romantic. I love the new furniture but I dont have any idea on how to decorate with it. Im not a "red" person, its never been one of my favorite colors. Any ideas on whether i should return the comforter and sheets and start over? I have no accents pieces yet so Im starting fresh.

A. pink works with black, tan works with pink, but I am not sure if you want to try all three. Maybe pull back on the pink to small items like alarm clock, bookends and such. Tan or white would be the best bet for the rest of the room. If you can paint, try a tan for 3 walls, leave 1 white and any trim white( paint is cheap and if you are renting be sure to ask first). You may want to use a throw blanket and some light decorative pillows on top of the bed to break up the black and try table runners or doylies on top of your cases. But if you are tight on money, Return the comforter and sheets to try something different.Maybe plain black and white will be pleasing, kinda go art-deco.

Any ideas for decorating a teen bedroom on a budget using the colors blue and brown?
Q. My room has this comforter in it http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Microfiber-Stripe-Reversible-3-piece-Comforter-Set/3442836/product.html and my walls are a light shade of blue. My room is also pretty small. I need some ideas for decorating my room, I really don't know what to put on the walls. Any ideas?

A. Something Organic, Black and white photos, they will support the strong graphic theme without repeating it. hope this helps :)

I'm moving into a bachelor suite and would like some suggestions for decor?
Q. there's a slight nook for my bedroom furniture set (vanity/headboard/bed), am considering finding a floor flutter screen for some privacy/separation. Already have a huge 3-seater futon, but need to purchase all other furniture. Any space-saving suggestions or pieces I should look for that could function for everyday and entertaining (i don't do huge gatherings, but usually several friends). hope this makes sense, and any suggestions would be appreciated!

A. a folding table big enough to entertain but small enough to be out of the way when folded away.

a "cupboard" for your tv/music with doors that can shut it away when you want to hide it!

Under bed drawers for extra hidden storage.

Go for light colours to create a more spacious feel.

How Would I Go About Selling My Bedroom Furniture?
Q. I have a very nice bedroom set, but its rather large and I'm looking for a downgrade. The furniture is in good shape, I just have no idea where I could sell it!

Are there stores specifically for this? I'm not even looking for a lot of money, I'm just looking to get the furniture off my hands for a decent price for its good condition!

A. Craigslist.com

How to get rid of roaches on bed room furniture?
Q. So, my husband and I bought a bedroom furniture (inculding mattress) set via craigslist. When we got it to our house, we noticed several tiny roach crawling out of the drawers. Obviously the house we bought it from was infested!!! Thankfully we have not seen any come out of the mattress. We are afraid to use soup and water because this will damage the furniture. Any suggestions? Is this salvagable, or did we just buy a disaster?!?!?!

A. There are probably many roach nests INSIDE the mattress; that would explain the juvenile roaches you saw. No telling how bad the infestation is unless you open the mattress and destroy it. I would put it in the dumpster, IMO.

What do *you* keep in your nightstand drawers?

Q. I've just purchased my first nightstand as part of a new bedroom set. The drawers have remained empty for 2 weeks because I don't have any idea what is "supposed" to go in there.

A. Well I have weird stuff if mine, like cocoa butter lotion, deodorant, nail file, nail polish, Q-tips, Band-Aids, and my husbands beard trimmer- top drawer. Heating pad in the bottom drawer. On top I have a phone, alarm clock, tissues, and a candle.

Some suggestions for you would also include a good book, lip balm, Listerine breath strips or your favorite mints, lotions, oils, personal items of choice, pen, writing pad...etc.

Don't worry, after a time stuff will just accumulate in them and you will wonder how all that crap got in there! lol

What should I put on bedroom dresser?
Q. I just bought a new bedroom set. The dresser looks bare; any suggestions? Also, what kind of lamp should I use for the night stand? Keep in mind it's a large, wide night stand. A tall skinny lamp or a fatter one?

A. No need to clutter your new dresser. I would just get some nice picture frames and put a family picture or two on the dresser. Balance the picture(s) with a tall candle holder, a vase of flowers or a plant. If your bedroom gets a lot of light, a Phalaenopsis orchid would look lovely. Look for one with healthy looking roots and leaves and quite a few buds. Water it thoroughly once a week, but don't get water on the leave (if you do, wipe it off especially any water that gets in the center) and the orchid should stay in bloom for at least 2 months. Trader Joes, Loews, Home Depot and Costco often carry orchids at very reasonable prices ($10-$15). Orchids last a lot longer than a bouquet of flowers.

If your nightstand is wide, I would suggest a lamp with a large round or oval base. Be sure to purchase the lamp from a store that has a cash refund policy, in case the lamp you purchase does not look good once you get home.

What color of furniture can I buy to match my mahogany platform bed?
Q. The bed only came with the 2 nightstands, it looks very nice and sleek but I don't know what other color to use. I need a dresser or a 5 or 6 drawer chest for my clothes. The walls in my room are off white. Im trying to keep it simple and modern looking. Maybe a few frames in black/white pictures. Any help. Only serious replies.

A. Mahogany can go towards the red or brown shades so I wish there was a picture. There is a bedroom set in black that Ashley has that has a brown wood top and comes in two dressers and a wardrobe that you could try, but it is more cottage style with round feet. I would go black for a modern look. Wicker could go too. The furniture stores have such great deals now it is worth walking through a few and snapping some pics with your phone and holding it up at home. Remember you don't want to just like it - furniture is a long term commitment! Be sure you love it and it suits the storage needs you have. Otherwise, I often think it looks modern and streamlined to do a California closets type of treatment and have no dressers - just built ins. then you can put up some beautiful artwork or a mirror or a tv over an electric fireplace and play up the romance with the added spaciousness. A rug and chair in front of the fireplace is what I did and I love the feel.

Looking for Martha!!! How would you decorate this room?

Q. I just bought a new bed, bedding, and bedroom set. The bedding is this:
sage and chocolate:
http://www.furniturexo.com/Mirabella-Sage-Bedding-Set-Ashley-Furniture-Q07400-p-30602.html

The bedroom set is black and similar to this:
http://www.leons.ca/shared/product/product.aspx?ItemId=140141&ChildItemId=135777

How would you paint and what colour curtains? They don't have them in the bedding fabric.

A. Get brown curtains to match the pillows, or do the sage green color. We can't see your bedroom set picture with the link you gave, but brown curtains might be too dark with dark furniture. If you got sage green curtains, you could try and get them in a woven fabric or some lighter fabric so they would let light in. Also, then it wouldn't matter if they didn't match exactly to the comforter, being a different fabric might give you a little bit of variable to work with.

Furniture Question in new home?
Q. Hey guys i have a question about furnishing my new home. I have nothing in my new home besides some appliances. I would like to buy bedroom sets, living room sets, and a home theatre set-up, i was wondering what my options were. How does furniture credit work? What are the interest rates? How else could i pay?

thanks

A. I would figure out how much money you have and start sale shopping..do some research..check out second hand stores and auctions..do not go to direct buy (rip off)...you have appliances which are a great expense you have just saved on...ikea has good prices..and here, Leon's will do a don't pay for 15 or 18 month sales on approved credit...just look around, make a list of what you need and go from there..you can pick up pieces bit by bit..you can get good deals at furniture places, but read the fine print..you must pay them off before the time runs out.

What suggestions do you have on a bedspread?

Q. I am redoing my room and my parents bought me a new bedroom set. Now I am looking for a new bedspread to go with it. I want it to be pretty. Maybe purples, browns, tans, or whatever you think is pretty. Any suggestions on a bedspread? Please give a picture and where I can buy it if I like it.

Thank you

Whats a good place to look for baby furniture?
Q. I want it to be like a bedroom set, so a crib and a changing table and dresser in the same style and color. I know babies r us and pottery barn and ikea. Do you know any other places where you can get cribs and changing tables and stuff like that?

A. Walmart!! I did both my babies shopping there!! I got a beautiful dresser changing table and crib for much cheaper than in any other store!!

How can I organize my room with a new bedroom set?
Q. i am getting a new bed room set so i need to organize my stuff. With under the bed storage what can i use?? Something cheap. And Where can i get one of those cheep temp. things that tell what the outside temp is? btw im a teen girl thanks!

A. you need to buy bed risers. They will give you the storage space you need. Ty walmart or target to get the best deal and try to go there instead of ordering online that will also save you shipping cash. Look on ebay for the checking of the outside temperature tool. God bless!

Did you or someone you know get married after age fifty?

Q. If so, did the couple move into his place, her place, or find a new place together?

A. I married at age 53 . My now husband was 55. Both of us had been divorced and alone for quite a few years. I have kids...he does not.

Since the house I lived in had to be sold per my divorce decree, my four kids were adults, and he had a far better paying job than I did (a DBA making six figures while I was a baker...we don't make much even tho we FEED people lol) and owns a detached condo (small cottage style home) we decided I would retire (boy was I ready to lol) and after the house sold I would relocate to where he lives & works....so I packed it up in NY and moved to Nashville, TN. I had a whole house full of stuff-he had no pots & pans and was eating off of paper plates (typical bachelor lol) so the problem was what to do with all my sh!t. I weeded through it, saved what we could use, gave away alot of stuff to younger relatives just starting out and junked what wasn't worth saving. His appliances were old, mine fairly new and looked pristine so we redid the kitchen with mine. Think the only thing of his we kept are his oversized leather sofa & chair (we are gonna replace those in a few years, they are too deep and with our arthritis a B!tch to get out off lol). We still had to rent a storage unit because I still ended up with more that we needed...I have a few pieces that I am not willing to part with...and so does he. (his Mom's rocking chair, my oak dinning room set) We replaced our respective bedroom suites with a new one (they needed replacing lol) but kept the antique brass bed (circa 1880's) and other antique pieces I have had for almost 40 years.....granted it took a bit of compromising but our home, if a tad eclectic, is cozy and all ours.

And I love Nashville....why wouldn't I? weather wise it's almost perfect with cold weather not rolling in until late Dec and by mid March it's gone...only fly in the ointment are the rare tornados-nerve wracking.....I don't have to shovel 2 feet of snow in the wee hours of the morning to get out of my driveway and to work anymore, the Homeowner's Assoc does the outside maintenance altho I do have a small flower garden in front to tend to....and I get to cook/bake for someone other than me.

where is the best state in the USA for allergies?
Q. currently I live in Nashville which is one of the worst cities for allegeries, my family live Santa Maria area but I got sick there to and recently I was visiting a friend in Florida and I got sick from allegies, other states such as South Carolina I have not done to well, can some one reccomend a place I have lived in both cold and hot climate that does not matter just a place to stop being sick

A. Every state has allergies, including Alaska. It depends on what you are allergic to, and you may develop new allergies to the new things you come in contact with in a new locale. I would recommend that you make an appointment with an allergist to discuss desensitizing yourself, if possible. It is a long process, but worth it if you have serious allergies to environmental things. Have you been tested to see what you are actually allergic to? That is important to know. If you have a mold allergy, you can't move to another city or state to escape that. It could be in your home.

A few suggestions from someone who is allergic to everything you can inhale:

1. Keep your HVAC system fan set to "on". That will draw things like dust and pet hair out of the house. You must clean your filter more often, though. Get a good quality HEPA or pleated filter. They make reusable ones that can be washed with the hose. I take my outside and blast it with my leaf blower (be sure to stand upwind) once a week.

2. Eliminate allergens from your bedroom. Dust with a damp cloth, shake out bedding frequently, wash sheets in hot water to kill dust mites, use an allergy mattress protector on your mattress and your box springs. Mop or vacuum your floor. If possible, do not have carpet in the bedroom. Don't let pets sleep in your bedroom. No live plants either because of the dirt.

3. Take an antihistamine daily year-round. Find one that works and stick with it until it no longer works. I use generic Claritin. Start with the OTC antihistamines before going to prescriptions ones. Many OTCs are now in generic form and really cheap to purchase.

4. Consider going to a chiropractor. People who have regular adjustments tend to fight off allergies better.

5. If you know what you are allergic to, go to the health food store and purchase a bottle of BioAllers drops. They has specific formulas for specific problems. You put the drops under your tongue and it absorbs into your system. I have found them a great relief. Go to www.bioallers.com to read more about what they have. A bottle costs $10-11, but I use half the amount suggested with great results, so it lasts quite awhile.

6. Use unscented everything. That includes using original-scent Ivory soap and unscented Dove soap, the "free and clear" type of laundry detergents, absolutely no fabric softener sheets, no scented candles, low scent lotions and shampoos, unscented deodorant, no perfume. You need to avoid the chemicals used to make these scents. You will discover that the smell of "clean" is better than any fragrance.

7. Use only vinegar for cleaning. Mix 50/50 with water. Use bleach sparingly and only in a well-ventilated room.

8. Keep of diary of your symptoms and when and where they happen. If they are worse in the bedroom than in the living room, that is a clue. If they are worse in the car than outdoors, that's another clue. If they are worse in September than in February, again that is a clue. You may be able to track down the culprit on your own. And be sure to make note of any time or place where you have no symptoms.

9. Avoid smoke. That includes tobacco smoke, fireplaces, and brush pile fires.

Best of luck to you. I moved from FL to TN and found I had fewer allergies here, so you can't always go by the "facts" that the experts put out.

Homes for rent in the Franklin, TN area?
Q. I'm wanting to see what's available and the pricing for homes for rent in the Franklin, Leipers Fork, and anywhere outside of Nashville area. I've searched online and could not find much of anything and what I did find on a few websites has been large homes, which I'm just looking for 2 bedrooms. I was told I should look on craigslist, but upon contacting a few people and getting some questionable replies like them being out of the country for a job or something I would like to find places available elsewhere. Any suggestions on where to look (I am NOT in the area, so I can NOT go look at the local grocery store to see what's posted as suggested before)?

A. A great site for Middle TN is www.realtracs.com which is run by the Middle TN Realtors. You can select a county, then set your search parameters.

I would avoid Craigslist. I've heard too many horror stories about it. Stick to a real estate agency.
