How can I redecorate my bedroom to make it elegantly romantic?

Nothing tacky please.

Answer
Do your prep. Put the drop cloth or other on the floor, shake and mix the paint (using stir sticks); have all other items in a room nearby.
You will begin painting with the (Maroon or Candy Apple Red) paint; start on an outer wall (facing driveway) etc. You'll only be using this color on the wall to that side.
Next you'll will paint the remaining walls in the (Plum) color. The ceiling can be in white or painted the same as the walls...some say that white makes the room appear that the ceiling is high up, while colors may lower the ceiling.
Once the darker wall has dried, you can add the border; you want the border in the direct center of the wall, all the way across. Therefore, you'll need to first measure it, and mark the corners with a dark ink pen. You may need to cut some of the wallpaper, in order for it to fit in the areas that a window may stand in your way...more instructions.
Cut the wallpaper, then lay it flat and totally coat it with the glue, carefully pick it up...folding it so that the glue area is visible (making it easier to handle); walk over to the wall and place one edge on the pen mark (carefully start smoothing out) while going across...a slightly damp cloth can be used to help.
Paint all the trim around the doors and the doors white, including closet door, around the windows and the base board.
You can then decorate your walls after the paint has dried, be sure to wait several hours before doing so. (See Tips Below) on items on decorating.

Tips
It has been said that you should never hang family photos in your bedroom that you'll feel like eyes are watching you; it is best to hang family photos in your living room or hallway.
Oriental Fans are always a pleasing touch to add class to your walls; plus they go really well in your bedroom. There is a (home for touring) in Houston that has fans on the ceilings...they call it the ceiling fan room, funny huh?
You can, also, spray paint an (extra large) wicker fan (jet black) (using glossy paint), add a beautiful ribbon along with an artificial red rose to it; then hang it above your bed...it truly adds a romantic appeal to the bedroom...pictures can be hung on each side of it, or some oriental fans.
You can add several elegant looking throw pillows to the bed (along with some dainty ones) giving your bed that special touch.
A fabulous looking throw at the foot of the bed is always a nice (such as two elephants in love) as an exsample...maybe even a leopard print.
A few stuffed animals on your bed, such as a (Begal Tiger) or a few (Teddy Bears) really gives your bedroom that sense of adventure, and adventures can be romantic.
Look for some unusual looking flowers for dresser, and add some scented candles to your night table.
You can hang some nice Mini Blinds in (black) to darken the room; over the shades add some (white) Lacy Curtains.
A (Multi Colored Comforter) will work great to off set the room.
You can add several nice throw rugs, it will add class to the total look of any room...maybe even a nice leopard rug.
musical Insturments in regards to the Border is a wise choice, for it has that romantic appeal to it.

I'm starting to look into fostering and need to know what the fire inspection looks for?

I have to get a fire inspection done on my house (in houston) and before I pay to get it done I want to make sure I've pretty much got everything in place and up to standards. Do you know where I would be able to get like a checklist for everything I'd need in the house or needed done to my house?

Like how many smoke detectors does my house require? and things like that.

Answer
Is a working smoke detector installed in the hallway near the sleeping rooms
If the house is more than one story is a working smoke detector installed at the top of the stairs
Does each sleeping room and living area have at least one of the following secondary means of escape other than the “front” or “back” door of the home?
A) A door, stairway, passage or hall providing unobstructed travel leading directly to the outside of the dwelling; or
B) An outside window with a minimum opening of not less than 5.7 sq. ft. in area, minimum of 20 inches wide, and at least 24 inches high, and no higher than 44 inches above the floor, located within 20 ft. of grade accessible to fire department apparatus; or
C) A non-locking door into an adjoining room that has a means of escape described in A or B above.
Can a person travel from any room of the house to an exit that leads directly outside without having to pass through an interior door than can be locked
Can all primary exterior exit doors, windows used as a secondary means of escape, and any security bars incorporated with these primary and secondary means of escape, be opened from the inside without the use of a key, tool or special knowledge (security code, combination)?
8.Are the closet doors equipped so that a child can open the door from the inside?
If the bathroom door is equipped with a lock, can the door be unlocked from the outside during an emergency?
Can all bedrooms and/or living areas above the first floor be accessed by a standard set of stairs?
Are all gas, wood, or fuel-fired heaters used in the home vented to the outside?
Are heaters, including wood burning or gas log fireplaces, equipped with immovable screens or barriers to prevent contact with open flames or hot surfaces?
Are gas appliances (heaters, water heaters, stoves) equipped with metal tubing and metal connectors?
Are all gas-fired heaters inspected annually by a qualified technician?
Are combustible items (things that burn) stored away from any stove, heater, or fireplace in the Foster Home?
Are all lighters and matches kept out of the reach of children?

Are flammable liquids stored in safety cans and kept away from heat and children?
******Is there an operable five-pound dry chemical fire extinguisher available for use in the kitchen?
Has a Home Fire Escape Plan been written, practiced, and documented?

Does the electrical system appear to be in good condition?

I am interested in visiting Miami in the future and I was wondering what places should I visit?

bedroom set miami

Mr. Knowle

This will be my first time visiting Miami, Florida.

Answer
Why Go: Trip Ideas

Miami, FL:

Satisfy Your Vices
What's not to love about America's Riviera? At any given hour you'll see bronzed, chiseled bods strutting down shimmering beaches and streets awash in Art Deco style.
Place we love, even if it's touristy: Cruise the "Deco District," a 10-block span along Ocean Drive from Fifth to 14th Streets, that’s home to more than 800 buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The real deal: Make like a local and sip amazingly potent cafe con leches and smoke aromatic, hand-rolled cigars on Calle Ocho in the heart of Little Havana.

Local flavor: Miami's Floribbean fusion cuisine is a blend of flavors from the south and the tropics. Experiment with sides like lobster mashed potatoes at Astor Place.

Dress code: You might think it's clothing optional, but it's really about baring your best in the scantiest threads, so tighten up and suck in where you can!

Where to blow a paycheck: From Barney's to local boutiques like The Pink Palm, Lincoln Road is considered the Fifth Avenue of the South. If you still have cash, or credit, check out Ocean Drive and Collins Avenue.

Twenty-four hour party people: Sundays at Nikki Beach Club is where to go to see and be seen. Other notable clubs on any night are Shore Club, B.E.D., Tantra, and crobar.

You've got game: Take in a game of Jai Alai, a local past time and the world's fastest ball game. It's part lacrosse, part handball, and you can see it at Miami Jai Alai or Dania Jai-Alai, near Fort Lauderdale.

Chill-out spot: Pretend to read Le Monde as you scout out models and celebs, or just kick back and blatantly gawk at the scene in front of News Cafe on Ocean.

Recommendations & Suggestions:

320
320 Lincoln Road
Phone: 350.531.2800

Former 1990s hotspot Bar Room has been transformed into the most luxe and celeb-packed club of the new millenium. Find a seat near the staircase to the VIP lounge to ogle the jet-set, or snuggle in one of the numerous balconies and nooks. 320 serves a limited menu and the door policy is typical of Miami's hot spots: dress to impress.

B.E.D.
929 Washington Avenue
Phone: 305.532.9070

Drinks in Bed, anyone? Beverage, Entertainment and Dining, that is. In this eatery and club, SoBe's hottest crowd bed-hops while being served by a p.j.-clad wait-staff. This South Beach club-of-the-moment could double as a harem with its exotic and lavish bedroom decor. Take a seat or slip under the covers of one of the made up beds, and who knows who might join you for a drink.

Blue Door at the Delano
1685 Collins Ave. (at 17th St.)

Located in the super-chic Delano Hotel, the Phillipe Starck-designed Blue Door envelops Claude Troisgros' exquisite nouveau French cuisine with floor to ceiling curtains and the flicker of candlelight. Blue Door stays open late and attracts a beautiful crowd (as does most of Miami) to its terrace, offering visual feasts to go along with pleasing entrees like roasted duck with passion fruit and apple puree.

Club Deep
621 Washington Avenue
Phone: 305.532.1509

If you're longing for those plastic-cup, keg-doused college days, then head to Club Deep, where the jet-set don't go, and the bouncer doesn't care what you look like. The kind of place where nobody knows your name and every night is ladies' night. Lose your inhibitions, forget trying to be cool, and dance like you would in your living room to popular hits from the '70s and '80s. Drinks are cheap and specials last until midnight.

Goddess
681 Washington Avenue (between 6th and 7th)
Phone: 305.534.7614

This enchanting club is the jewel in every hipster's crown--anyone who's anyone has danced a night away in the Kama Sutra themed lounge. Buddhas, silk-covered lighting and a harem-like setting exist to seduce the senses while trendsetters seduce each other. Don your best (and tiniest) Eastern inspired outfit and don't fret too much about how much you'll spend--Goddess is friendlier on the wallet than one would expect in flashy South Beach.

Nikki Beach Club
1 Ocean Drive
Phone: 305.538.1111

Swing into St. Tropez at this high-end beachfront club, where Ferraris fill the valet in front of the sea, and famous models have been known to break into impromptu table dances. Yes, there are other hard-to-get-into clubs in South Beach, and there are certainly glamorous people all over this strip, but few clubs have as much class as Nikki. Not to be missed are the Sunday beach parties (yes, during daylight), if you can work your way past the bouncers.

Rain
323 23rd Street
Phone: 305.674.7447

The local, nocturnal, jet-set crowd can now forget about the loss of Groove Jet. Housed in this former space is one of the most popular hip-hop clubs to hit the SoBe scene in recent years. In contrast to the usual over-the-top South Beach clubs, Rain's approach is one of minimalism and paired-down elegance. Lounge on a modernist leather sofa, or dance underneath the stars on the open-air dance-floor. Also in contrast to neighboring clubs, the wait staff at Rain offers service with a smile.

Smith & Wollensky
1 Washington Avenue South Pointe Park
Phone: 305.673.2800

The magnificent waterfront location of this award-winning steakhouse offers unparalleled vistas of the Atlantic Ocean, the downtown Miami skyline and an endless parade of ships through the Government Cut shipping channel, located just a few yards outside the restaurant's oversized picture windows. Paying homage to the original New York institution, Smith & Wollensky is a "steakhouse to end all arguments" and is one of the few steakhouses that still dry-ages its steaks on the premises and does its own butchering. This landmark restaurant is known for serving generous portions of high quality food and is famous for their extensive wine list which highlights Bordeauxs and California Cabernets.

I'm thinking of moving to Miami. I'd like to hear from others that have moved there.?

bob r

I'm thinking of maybe moving to Miami. I currently live in chicago, and I'm sort of itching to get out and try something different. Im a 26 yo, single male. I have been to Miami before, and I really liked it, mainly for its lush tropical landscape and the different culture. I'm curious to hear from other people that have moved there if they were happy moving there, or if they came to regret their decision (and why)

I'm curious to hear from other people that have moved there (especially from very different places like chicago). Did it take you a while to adjust to living there? What it what you had hoped it would be? Are people friendly? Overall, do you feel safe in Miami? I've heard there are some bad areas of the city, but it Miami cant possibly be more crime ridden than chicago is.

Also, what it the cost of living like? Right now, I pay 1700 for a 1 bedroom in chicago, but I would like to find a nice apartment in a safe area in miami for around 1200 a month. What areas would you recommend living in? Is 1200 a reasonable amount to expect to pay in rent? I am a fairly quiet person, and while I enjoy Miami beach for its beauty, I wouldnt want to live near that craziness.

Any input from Miami locals would be appreaciated! Thanks!

Answer
I've lived here in the Miami area for two years and have mixed feelings. I should point out that back in the mid-90s I also spent 2 years living in Orlando, so this isn't my first rodeo in the Sunshine State.

I think my biggest gripe about Florida is the job market; it's not diversified enough (retail and services), the wages are too low, and finding jobs is too difficult. I know that people would say that the job market is bad everywhere, but Florida has a couple of things that set it apart. Just like with California, the population here grows too damn fast and job growth just isn't able to keep up. Every week you have people moving into the state (either folks from up north looking to live in a warmer climate, or Cubans and other immigrants drifting in with the tides). Obviously when those people arrive, one of the first things they do is look for work. There just aren't enough new jobs created for all the waves of people that keep moving into the state, and that's a big problem.

The cost of living is high, yes (as you already seem to know) and I accept this living in a state with such fast population growth, but what drives me crazy is that the wages don't keep pace. I had this exact same problem when I lived in Orlando back in '95. At that time the only jobs I could find paid barely above minimum wage.

We have an older four poster oak bedroom set-its sturdy and well made and I just cant bring myself to get rid of it. I would really love to spice up my bedroom decor but cant figure out what would go well with the brown oak "country style" bedroom set. Im more into a contemporary or eclectic look now and I need help with some options...thanks.

Answer
I had a Lane bedroom set. It was solid oak and gorgeous. It had a canopy bed, triple dresser, armoire and two nightstands. I had that set for at least 30 years and it looked like new.

But times and tastes change and I wanted something more modern or at least "different".

Trust me, nothing you do to that "country style" set is going to satisfy you if your taste has changed. Bite the bullet and let it go. I sold my old set reasonably to someone that loved it as much as I did when it was new so I knew it went to a good home.

I then bought a new set that is just what I wanted at this point in my life. I don't go for the "sturdy, well made" (translated "really expensive") stuff anymore (I'm not talking about buying junk either, I got my new set at Ashley) because then you have it forever and get tired of it. If you take good care of whatever you buy it will last you for as long as you love it. Then, when you don't "love it" anymore you won't feel so bad to let it go.

Life is short, you deserve to have what makes you happy today!!

Edited: I work for a store that sells furniture wholesale and I update their catalogs. Believe me when I tell you that if you paint the "country" furniture black, it's going to look like black "country" furniture (I see hundreds of sets of black "country" furniture). Country is country is country. If you try to put modern stuff in, on and around your "country" stuff, it's going to scream "she's trying not to look country, but it's country with modern stuff". It won't go. I had country decorating in my home. My husband bought me a baby grand piano. When they bought it in and set it down amidst my "country" stuff, you could almost hear the piano saying "What's all this stuff?" I had to change my decor to go with the piano (much more sophistocated victorian). Modern stuff has clean lines and there is no way to make country stuff look modern.

I'll say it again, life is short, get what you really want and enjoy it.

Ok so im moving out of state and decided to sell my current bedroom set and start new when I get to my new place. I am a 24 yr old female college student. I currently have a black and red theme going on, but id like to change it up. Im starting from scratch. My room is small. Im trying to figure out a way to maximize space and storage. I have a lot of stuff that will be in my bedroom and I need a lot of storage, mainly for books and clothes. I also need a work space for school work and writing.

Im looking for something young and fun but also sophisticated. I want something relaxing, as I tend to stress a lot. As im going to be sharing a bathroom with other people, I would like a vanity area, maybe a desk that can douple as a vanity or whatever.
Also, id rather not go smaller than a full bed.

I need everything, furniture, bedding, lighting, accents...everything! If you could help id love whatever ideas you have. Please use pictures to help portray your ideas. Thank you so much!

My bedroom walls are white at the moment. I have black bedroom furniture that looks worn in some spots. My sheets are a golden honey color. I have no idea what color to paint my walls b/c i dont really want to paint them gold or tan. Any ideas on what colos would go well with black and gold.

Answer
i know you said no tan, but any type of nuetral colors would go very well, also an eggshell color would look good. you could also do more than one color as a contrast. my daughters room is going to be pink and blue or pink and purple pastels doing it in duel colors may make other things stand out, you don't want any color that is to loud if you want something else to be the center of the room ( the attention drawn to a piece of furniture or the bedspread etc in the room) instead of to the walls. Depends on what you want to do as well, color can enhance the room and have certain effects. Dark colors can make the room look smaller. Certain colors add a certain atmosphere to the room. Light colors are good for in the bedroom, pastels, blues because this gives a calm serene feeling to your bedroom. Loud colors are to eye popping for a bedroom and have add an erratic feeling. Thats why they recommend putting blue or light pink in a baby's room it is supposed to be calming and help them sleep.

My daughter just moved out of the house and her bedroom will now be used as a guest room. It was recently painted so we really don't want to paint it again but there are 2 walls that are chocolate brown and 2 wall are hot pink. The headboard of the bed and nightstand are white. How can I decorate this room without it feeling like a teenage girl's room?

Answer
Oh gosh...I don't usually kind of insist on painting if you don't want to, but I'm hoping I can talk you into painting the 2 pink walls, cause frankly, the pink walls & white furniture will be hard to overcome as an adult room. The white furniture we can work with. So we have to have a bedding set for inspiration. I found this one that has a white background to pull in the white furniture & overall lighten the room:

http://www.jcpenney.com/jcp/X6E.aspx?GrpTyp=ENS&ItemID=1b6aff6&DeptID=82319&CatID=82321&SO=0&SelDim=1031%7e&x5view=1&NOffset=0&Ne=949+877+5+1031+1007+8+18&shopperType=G&N=4294932621+4294949521&Nao=42&PSO=0&CmCatId=82319|82321

The chocolate is in there & the print is a modern stylized Jacobean print. Soooooo...would you be willing to paint those 2 pink walls the rusty red in this bedding??? Take a sham to Sherwin Williams & also the name/number of the current pink (or a good picture of it). They will help you choose the best method of covering the pink with the red. Also, to make the room look bigger & sophisticated, paint the ceiling the color of the tan in the draperies & bedding. Again, SW can help you with this.

This is another choice you might like - just follow my same principles:

http://www.jcpenney.com/jcp/X6E.aspx?Grptyp=ENS&ItemId=1b6b108&cmOrigId=1b6aff6&cmTypeFlag=RichRel&cmCatID=82319|82321

Do you have a ceiling fixture in the room??? Do you have nightstands??? (I hope so) Consider using a pair of these over the nightstands:

http://www.potterybarn.com/products/weston-arc-sconce/?pkey=cplug-in-sconces

And this as your ceiling fixture:

http://www.potterybarn.com/products/camilla-3-arm-chandelier/?pkey=cchandeliers

Lastly...wall decor. Use a LARGE print for impact like this:

http://www.art.com/products/p13877051-sa-i2762539/raymond-gehman-bare-branches-and-red-maple-leaves-growing-alongside-the-highway.htm?sorig=cat&sorigid=0&dimvals=23946&ui=8c23450a465c489baf2ec5f4b9233455

The larger & fewer the accessories the better.

What added expenses will I find after moving away from home, and how much should I have saved?

Josh D

I was thinking I should save at least one years rent before I move out of home. What does anyone else living on their own in an apartment spend per month?
I should add that at my current job I'm making a little more than 1k per month, and rent should be around $450/mo.
Just paid off my car

Answer
You are moving out of your parents place? First, make sure you have a job and a car. Without, you will be stuck. If you rent a place, like an apartment, you will need a security deposit which is usually one months rent, plus, you will need the first months rent, so if you have a place that is $1000 a month, right there is $2000, just to move in. Then, you will probably have to put the electric bill in your name, that has a fee also, I am not 100% sure, but I would say about $50 to 80 for that. Then, if you decide to get a house phone, that also will require a set up fee, you have to pay the phone guy out to turn on your service. Its a rip-off, but you have to pay it to get it done. If you do cable, its not as bad as the phone, but some places also charge a fee for hooking it up.
As far as water, it will vary. If you are single, you will probably pay around $30 a month. Electric, will also vary, depending on if you use AC a lot. You might have a gas bill, depending on the kid of heat you have. That pretty much covers the bills. You will need to plan for food, typically $200 a month, and that is eating really light.
I live in Tampa, FL. I pay $860 for rent for a two bedroom apartment, close to 1100 sq ft. Electric is about $100, water $30. Phone was $75 and cable / internet was $80. My food bill was about $350 a month. My gas bill for my truck was about $120-150 a month, just because I live an hour away from work.

Hope this helps.

How Do I find a Top Notch Tampa Property Management Company?

Q. How to I figure out who is good and who isn't

Answer
Ask them these questions - I found at www.NoVacancyNow.com - they are who I use for my rental house.

1.You are Never Charged Set-up Fees
Would you believe that most property management companies charge $250-$400 simply to set up your rental property in their system. I don't care what kind of property management software a company is using, it only takes 5 minutes to put your property in the computer. We are not going to charge you for this.

2.You Do NOT pay us if Your Rental Property is Vacant
This one isn’t as common but I know half a dozen management companies that actually charge you money when the house is not rented. We get paid when the property is rented, and you are making money and not before.

3.If Your Rental Doesn’t Rent Within 2 weeks, We Take Additional Steps Immediately
There are all kinds of reasons why a property remains vacant. If the rental doesn’t rent in 1 month, there is at least one thing wrong that must be fixed. I have never found an exception.

Perhaps the rent is a bit too high or the property wasn't as clean as we were led to believe. Sometimes, something goes wrong in or outside the rental after we turn it. One month, there was a dead cat in the driveway of two different houses. Sure enough, once we removed the deceased cats, both houses rented within 2 weeks. :)

At the two week mark of the rental process, Stress Free Property Management starts interviewing prospective tenants to find out why they didn't like the rental property. This feedback is immensely valuable. If we constantly hear the rent is too high than we can talk with you and make an adjustment. Or perhaps, we are not getting any calls whatsoever which often means the same thing.

Sometimes, the house just needs to be re-cleaned and perhaps one or two things need to be fixed. For instance, we had a house that sat vacant for several weeks and we drove out to look at it again. It turned out that because of a hard rain, the roof started leaking and there was a very large wet spot in the ceiling.

4.We are Entrepreneurs/Real Estate Investors and Not Realtors Looking to Sell a Home
We understand that the buck stops with us and creative solutions and flexibility are essential to get your place rented. Therefore, we have created dozens of ways to develop prospects for your rental property that have been tried and tested on our own rental properties.

For example, did you know that your best referral sources for a new tenant are people who live in a 10 block radius of your house? The typical rental sign by another property management company states, "For Rent" and a phone number.

We have learned that by including the number of bedrooms and baths, rent amount, deposit amount, and highlights about what is great about the house that 4 times as many people call on the sign in the yard.

Now, people in the neighborhood know exactly what type of rental you have available and at what price. This makes it very easy for them to pick-up the phone and call their friend whom happens to be looking for this type of 3bed/2 bath or 2bed/1 bath. It makes sense when you think about, doesn't it?

We have found dozens of these type of techniques that greatly increase how fast we rent a home or greatly decrease the cost of maintenance.

5.We actually have a bunch of our own rental properties!
Therefore we have a vested interest to get off our butts and negotiate the best rates for you for electricians, AC Repair guys, plumbers, roofers, etc. This is a total win/win. We get better rates because these repairmen work not only on our rental properties but several hundred other properties owned by clients like yourself. This means volume discounts.

Sure other management companies can negotiate low rates with vendors as well. What incentive do they have to make sure those rates stay low? We have got to meet our mortgage payments on our rental properties just like you. Believe me, we pay extremely close attention to costs.

For example, we have an outstanding plumber that charges $30 an hour and no mark-up on parts. Typical plumbers charge $85-$130 an hour and have at least a 300% mark-up in parts. We buy the parts on our own account and save you that money. This type of relationship and pricing exists for all of our outside vendors.

6.You Save a Ton of Money on Leasing and Advertising fees

It's not necessary to match the living room, bedroom and bathroom, even though you can, you might like this decorating design.

Place a contemporary accent rug in front of your sofa/under coffee table and pull the colors from the rug for pillows, accessories, curtains and wall art.

Do you have any advice for writing a first novel?

yankee bedroom set
on NY Yankees 5pc Twin Bedding Set-d36b_1.jpg
yankee bedroom set image

Answer
I do not agree with locking the doors and smashing the TV at all. Life is all about diversity. You have to set yourself specific "office hours". During that time, you write every day for a specific length of time in a specific place. I watch a little TV now and then. I never miss a Yankee game. I go shopping. I do a lot of things. I read daily. If you lock yourself away and do nothing but write, you will not succeed. How can one write about life when one shuts themselves away from it?

Most successful authors follow the "office hours" approach. Hemingway had a little building behind his house in Key West. Every day at the same time, his manservant locked him inside for a set number of hours. You need to determine which hours work best for you. For me it's 1 - 5 am. I have learned to adjust my lift around those hours. I write in the same place every time. This week, I officially moved into my new office in my house. Writing in a bedroom is a really lousy idea - you will never sleep. Finally, I moved my home office out of my bedroom into a beautiful room of my own. You should read Virginia Woolf's essay called A Room of Her Own. When you decide on your special place, it should be a place without distractions and a place where people know to leave you alone. My office is off limits to everyone during office hours. Of course, most people are asleep then.

My other advice to you is not to jump right into the writing. Work on the prep. In the young authors I have worked with and taught, most neglect that phase. Work on your character development. Work on your plot analysis. From there, subplots and backstories should develop. And I cannot stress RESEARCH enough. I recently read a lovely book called The Fig Eater. In the acknowledgments, the author talks about how the book came about. If nothing else, go pick up that book and read that part. She spent NINE MONTHS researching before she wrote a word! But when you read the book, you see how it paid off. You actually can feel you are in turn of the century Vienna.

Lastly, editors!!!! Again, most novice authors think they write a book, toss it in an envelope, send it to a publisher and get money for it. It doesn't work that way. Expect to do at least three drafts of your book. Then send it to a professional editor to be edited. Editing doesn't mean checking your spelling and punctuation. Editors give you margin notes that tell you how to make your book better. They tell you where to trim, where to add, where to speed up, where to slow down, etc. They have been through this hundreds of times and they know what publishers want. They cost between 3 and 5 dollars per page based on 250 words per page, but they are worth every penny. As you begin to write, begin saving for that editor. They will turn a good book into a great book.

Check with my profile. I star all great Q and A on publishing and writing. Many successful authors have posted valuable information here. Go throgh them and find some that are useful to you. Print them out and study them. Check back too, I add more all the time as I read them here. Yours is now starred.

What was Obermann's Ratings...?

Jean R

...in bed. Not very good she says.

KEITH GETS LOW RATINGS IN BED

October 9, 2006 -- A BROWN-haired beauty who claims she had an unsatisfying one-night stand with Keith Olbermann is getting her sweet revenge - she's launched a blog to warn other women about the acerbic MSNBC commentator's boorish bedroom habits.

The bitter babe, who calls herself KarmaBites1, says she doesn't want others "to fall into the same trap . . . and I want him to feel some remorse for what he's done . . . He sets his mind on a woman, lures her in, and once he gets what he wants, he refuses to ever speak to them again. And I don't think he understands the damage he's caused."

A 30-something office worker of Caribbean descent, KarmaBites1 said she struck up an e-mail friendship with Olbermann, whom she admired, and agreed to fly to New York to meet him last May. She says he came to her hotel room and opened a bottle of Merlot which he "spilled all over." Then, when "sexual activity began [in] less than an hour," Olbermann had difficulty. "I pretended he knew what he was doing," the embittered blogger writes. "I adored the guy. I didn't want him to think he was a dud in bed," so she faked experiencing ecstasy.

Next, he piled on excuses as to why he had to leave. "He told me he's an insomniac and that it's hard for him not to sleep in his own bed. He also mentioned he hadn't had 'company' in a while. [He said] he had an early meeting with the Yankees [and] he might be allergic to the pillows in the hotel bed."

Six days later, she claims, Olbermann e-mailed her to tell her never to contact him again. "I practically begged him to explain what I did wrong. I told him I deserved some kind of explanation for such a dismissal, but I never heard from him again." She said she's since heard from six other women who say they had brief sexual relationships with Olbermann.

She named her blog forthisreliefmuchthanks.blogspot.com, after a line from "Hamlet" she says the perennial bachelor quoted.

Olbermann's spokeswoman said she'd get back to us, but didn't.

I am amazed that anyone even watches that idiot.

I'm surprised he even has a show. Rumor is, that MSNBC is thinking about cancelling MSNBC due to poor ratings

What's the best way to go about selling furniture?

bedroom set low price

bedroom set low price image

Red

I'm thinking about selling my furniture before I move. I have tons of stuff: queen bedroom set, trundle bed, desk, dinning room table, kitchen table, couches, coffee tables and end tables.

Answer
Selling furniture is really tricky, because you will have to ask much less than the furniture is worth, and then not even get the asking price.
Sometimes it is better to donate it to a non profit, then you will get a tax write off that might be even more than the cash you would get from selling it.
If you do want to sell it, give yourself plenty of time......it is hard to sell things in a rush.
I would suggest using Craigslist.org

Be sure to take pictures of all the things you are selling, then put them on a photo sharing site, then include a link to it in your craigslist add. Also include a couple of photos in the ad itself.

Next, be prepared to have your time wasted by non serious inquiries, people who stand you up (say they will come to buy the furniture, then don't), people who want to haggle you down to an unrealistically low price, and worst, people who have unrealistic expectations, like for you to ship it to their house.

Be very clear in your expectations: cash only, pick up only.

Also, don't be afraid to throw in a freebie or two.... for example, if someone buys your couch, throw in an end table or a lamp.

Selling furniture is hard, time consuming, and you might not sell all of it.

So keep your expectations realistic, give yourself plenty of time, and don't let yourself get screwed.

what should i charge to clean a home?

Gloria

I have been asked to clean several homes . The problem I run into is that people want to pay hourly . I have a set price per room $ 12.50 - $10 per room (I consider everything a room except stairs or hallways) the more frequency of cleaning and more rooms I clean the lower the price per room. how much should I be charging to clean a house including :
Kitchen
bathroom's
office
bedrooms
living room
entertainment room

Answer
dont do hourly..look at the house and then give a price..sometimes they'll ask for windows to be done and sometimes they want the oven done..negotiate beforehand

your base should be $100 and then more as they add things on..which they always do

** remember..people never consider your travel time and the amount of money you spend on chemicals and cleaning supplies.

White and Black bedroom decorating ideas?

Im going to be in grade eight and im moving into a new house. My bedroom will be themed black and white. Is there a color that would be a good accent for my themed ones? What are some decorating ideas, or things i could buy for it?

Answer
Black and white with an accent color is one of the easiest themes to pull off. What I usually suggest is black & white plus your favorite color (two or three shades of the color - maximum). If I were doing this for me, I'd pick teal or turquoise or a royal blue as those are my favorites :) and I'd go with a black & white patterned bedding - just NOT zebra print as I feel it has been done to death in recent years.

Pick black or white for your furniture or go for a dark wood.

Wall color could be a light to medium gray OR a light to medium shade of your third color. If you use gray for the walls, then use your third color for accent pieces like curtains, throws or pillows. If you use a darker shade of paint, then use mainly lighter shades of the same color for your accents with maybe one item the same shade as the paint. If you use a lighter shade of paint, then do the reverse.
Here's a nice turquoise/teal for instance:

or gray:

Target is great for black & white bedding and they also have a great selection of black & white photo posters that are reasonably priced. With a black & white themed bedroom you can use black, white or silver toned frames for your posters/pictures. Depending upon the size you need, you may be able to obtain frames to fit your color scheme at your local dollar stores.

Hope this gives you some ideas to work with and helps you out.

Need decorating ideas for black bedroom furniture-please helpl?

I have a small bedroom with a black bedroom set-queen bed, nightstand, dresser, and armoire. The walls are white with tan carpet. I went out and purchased a sateen black down comfort with a set of soft pink sheets but Im not sure Im going to be able to use it because there is just way way to much black. Can anyone suggest any ideas. Im just wanting a room that is pretty soft and romantic. I love the new furniture but I dont have any idea on how to decorate with it. Im not a "red" person, its never been one of my favorite colors. Any ideas on whether i should return the comforter and sheets and start over? I have no accents pieces yet so Im starting fresh.

Answer
pink works with black, tan works with pink, but I am not sure if you want to try all three. Maybe pull back on the pink to small items like alarm clock, bookends and such. Tan or white would be the best bet for the rest of the room. If you can paint, try a tan for 3 walls, leave 1 white and any trim white( paint is cheap and if you are renting be sure to ask first). You may want to use a throw blanket and some light decorative pillows on top of the bed to break up the black and try table runners or doylies on top of your cases. But if you are tight on money, Return the comforter and sheets to try something different.Maybe plain black and white will be pleasing, kinda go art-deco.

How to stop a cat from scratching at our bedroom door?

bedroom set with wardrobe image

Brittany

I have a 5 month old Siamese/domestic cat that I rescued when she was about a week old. She was found abandoned and i took her in, bottle fed her and fell in love with her so I kept her. For the first 2 months she was too small to jump up onto our bed and she didn't understand the concept of scratching. The third month I was on vacation and took her with me and she never scratched at anything. She loves to play but she used to not scratch. When i got home from vacation i bought her a cat tree and she loves it. She started scratching at the bottom of it (which i have mo problem with). My cat used to sleep in my bedroom with me and my husband but About a month ago I put up a wardrobe in my bedroom and she started clawing at it and it wakes us up all through out the night. So I started closing the door and leaving her to have the rest of the house when we go to sleep. Only one problem. She scratches at our bedroom door. If we let her in she goes straight to the wardrobe and scratches that. If we don't let her in she continues to scratch and doesn't stop. I've tried spraying her but my cat LOVES water so she thinks its a game. I put her cat tree next to the bedroom door since she likes to scratch the tree also but it doesn't help. We are renting the house and I can't put any kind of foil or tape on the door. I've tried leaving the bathroom door open with water at a slow drip from the faucet in the sink since she likes water but she comes back a few hours later and forgets about the water. I need help!!!!!

Answer
I love challenges like this. Now, where she has scratched the wardrobe is where she has put her scent on the wardrobe. So you need to remove that scent, by soap and water. Then, there are a couple of approaches. If she has scratched on just one area, then try blocking it off by something heavy. Or use double sided sticky tape on the area. She won't like that.

Clearly, you cannot keep the door closed, or she will cause more problems. Now there are approaches to keeping her away from the door, but those are not often successful. Sometimes foil down before the door will stop her from walking on it. But she may ignore it. There are motion sensors you can set up that will emit a hiss to keep her away from the door. The hiss is from a shot of compressed air. (SSSCat spray is one)

If a mouse has been under my wardrobe, do I need to clean down there?

Ian

A mouse got into my bedroom last night, and spent a long time underneath the wardrobe where, aside from hiding whenever I moved, it sounded like it was trying to burrow through the floor.

This morning I've had a look under there with a torch and can't see any evidence of its being there - no droppings from the looks of it, but if it was there for a good couple of hours is it likely to have contaminated the space, and will it start to smell? Should I be getting the wardrobe moved so I can clean the carpet?

Answer
I would set up a few traps and see if you have any luck catching it. If you catch it or in about week I'd then I'd sweep because it might go underneath tonight. Good Luck

This set includes 1 upright dresser, 1 long dresser w/attached mirror, headboard, and a nightstand. It dates to 1970 as it still has the furniture store's delivery slip to the customer on the back of the mirror. The mirror itself btw has a copyright stamp of "Thomasville 1969" Sorry i didn't take any photos of the set. It looks great and something you would find at the "Brady Bunch" house lol. They are wanting $349.00 Is that a bargain?

Answer
The value is $349. It's a bargain if you have the money and want it.

What bedding color would look good with this?

Jessica

We just painted our bedroom yellow, a pretty bright yellow. We're planning on doing our baseboard and trim just a whitish color so it isn't too overbearing, and we're planning on doing some turquoise accents in the bathroom. We are looking for a black and white shower curtain with either a lace or scroll design, and we are trying to decide what color bedding would go good with all of this? Should it be like a gray color, or turquoise, or something else? I found this one that I really like
http://www.target.com/p/xhilaration-lace-comforter-set/-/A-14271879?reco=Rec|pdp|14271879|ClickCP|item_page.new_vertical_1&lnk=Rec|pdp|ClickCP|item_page.new_vertical_1

but I didn't think it would go good since it has yellow on the underneath?? Not that you would see it that much. If we did that bedding, should we do something different for the shower curtain so there isn't to much black and white? Also, our bed and bedroom furniture is black.
Thanks for your help!

Answer
Yellow with turquoise is very 1950's and 60's. Try periwinkle blue instead, even for the shower curtain.
