Q. I have the lights in my bedroom set on a dimmer... they are indoor floodlights.... I bought 4 new indoor floodlight bulbs all 65 watt and i am sure they all work... i now cannot dim the lights... do i need a special bulb to work with the dimmer?

A. Dimmer bulbs are available with Wipro & Philips

How can I decorate nursery for soon-to-have baby when six year old step-daughter shares the same room?
Q. I have six year old step-daughter, she lives with her mom so my husband and I only get her maybe two weekends a month. We have the second bedroom set up for her, but I am pregnant with our first child together and I don't know if we can quite afford a three bedroom home. How can I decorate this nursery? If we only get my husband's daughter once or twice a month, is it wrong to just leave her bed in there and her toys and go ahead and decorate the nursery for the baby as I want? I don't want to push her out or her to be jealous of the baby. What do you think? Any ideas?

A. Yikes, I frankly don't think there is any possible way the step-daughter won't be jealous and resentful having "her" room redecorated to accomodate the baby. Possibly listening to her input regarding color choices or theme could help. I think I'd set up a corner of my house with a desk that she helps choose and fill the desk with special craft materials that she helps to select. I'd make as big a deal out of setting up her desk as I would fixing up the nursery. I'd emphasize that the desk is only for big girls and babies can't get into it. Frankly, however, I think I'd move to a bigger place as soon as I could afford it. Good luck with your expanding family

where can i find good quality furniture that is not too expensive?
Q. i need a couch (preferrably a sectional) and i need a bedroom set

A. I would check in the yellow pages for an oulet furniture store in your area. I managed a furniture store for 2 years and still bought my furniture from a local outlet. Alot of outlets carry the same brands as upscale stores but the pieces are either special orders that came in wrong, too many of an item, discontinued items, etc. You can usually talk them down on price as well. If you find an outlet and have any questions on brands and prices, send me an email.

How do i get my 3 got on 4 year old daughter to sleep in her own bed?
Q. I have been trying to get my daughter to sleep in her bed for like 2 1/2 years and she will sleep in her bed MAYBE 1 time a month if i am lucky and when i get her to sleep in there she normaly will end up in my bed in a couple hours. We have tried everything. we bought her a brand new dora bed set, my father even bought her a brand new bedroom set and nothing works. i even have went as low as telling her santa wont bring her gifts in she dont sleep in her bed.Help lol i cant take it anymore!
thats a good question i dotn know if she is sleep walking becuase she crys when she walks back to my room but when i talk to her and try to calm her down its like she dont hear me. and when i get her to lay back down she fall asleep fast and she starts talking in her sleep

A. First off plan to lose some sleep yourself while doing this. At bedtime, make sure she has had quiet time and a warm bath before entering her room, leave a nightlight and a radio on softly for her. Do you still have your nursery monitor? Plug it back in and tell her that you can hear her if she really needs you, but that big girls sleep in their beds and since she is a big girl it is time. Read her a soft short story while she is tucked in, kisses goodnight, and then say as you are leaving, "I am going to my bed, please stay in yours like we talked about." Leave the room, if she gets up walk her back to bed, and repeat "you are a big girl sleep in here please." Walk out. Repeat as necessary each time she leaves her own bed, but do not stay in her room, and as hard as it will be just tough it out. It could take up to a week before you finally get a good nights sleep, but remember to congratulate her when she has succeeded in the morning. You could make it a treat for her by buying a special big girl book she would like and using it that night at story time.

Where can I find cute room decorations?

Q. I am redoing my bedroom and I need help finding decor!!! I am 16 and the colors I chose are black aqua white and silver. Can anyone help me find some cute things to help make my room fun but sophisticated?

A. Don't know if you already have bedding, but here are some things you might like: (by the way, I like your colors alot!)

Full bed or 2 twins for little girls sharing a room?
Q. My girls will be sharing a room, and when the youngest is ready for a big girl bed (they are 16 months apart), I need to know if we're going to set up bunk beds or a full-size bed to share. Their bedroom is not very big, so I thought bunks would save floor space, but then I also have to worry about falls and bunks are such a pain to change sheets on! Which do other parents recommend-- bunks or a full bed?

A. Full beds. I grew up sharing a full or queen size bed with my sisters and it wasn't every a problem. I would worry about falling out of the bunk beds at that young off an age. I won't let my 5 year old daughter sleep on the top of her bunk.

My husband is a crossdresser and I find it perverse inspite of trying to accept it?
Q. I found out about his cross dressing by chance. Inspite of reading up on it and doing a lot of online research, I am unable to come to terms with it.
I have not confronted him about it but I have hinted it couple of times. He knows that I know but is keeping mum.
I can't get this thing outta my head. I am very disturbed.
Can other wives in a similar situation tell me what they did?

A. To begin with: Just so you know who is talking, I am a crossdresser.

Your husband is probably very much in a keep it secret stage. Thus he is very reluctant to share with you let alone anyone else. You on the other hand need to have some questions answered. And you may not even be sure of what the questions are. This is where I hope I can help. Usually the questions are not so related to him but more as to how it affects you.

Question 1. Is he gay?
Answer: Most likely he is not. In fact 90 percent of crossdressers are just like your husband: married, straight men who just have a need to express a feminine side. Of course in today's society we often equate the crossdressing to equal homosexuality because of what we have been exposed to by media in the way of drag queens and those who are extremely campy. Crossdressing is a gender issue. Its a degree of how masculine vs feminine we feel. But it has very little to do with sexual preference.

Question 2. If you accept it are you gay? After all your husband enjoys dressing as a girl, so when you are with him, is it not like being with a girl?
Answer: No. As I have said to people when i am asked as similar question, what I wear is what i feel comfortable. But inside my panties... I am all man. I want to have heterosexual sex. and I only have interest in women... In your husband's case.. one woman: YOU. He is still a man, and he still has a penis and he wants to have sex with you in the usual way. He is no matter what he wears, still a man. You are not a lesbian.

Question 3. What will everyone else think? My friends, my family?
Answer: This is a subjective one. Some people will be horrified (mostly because they do not know enough about it, and only assume the worse). The majority of people you know, just won't care. and won't even think about it. Then there will be the few who are curious and interested and will want to know more. But before all that begs the question... how will these people find out? He certainly is not going to tell anyone... he can't even talk about it to you. You don't need to tell anyone? Its not like you go and tell your mother about everything you do in the bedroom? (I hope :) ). But for those that do find out, in general they won't say anything about it unless you are complaining about it. If you are supportive, and show that you and your husband are of one mind about this, they should just leave you alone.

Question 4. Why do you feel it is "perverse"?
Answer: Because it is hidden and is being kept hidden. When things are hidden like they are, you are going to feel like its something wrong and it needs to be hidden. your solution is to talk about it with your husband. You have to get it out in the open. Find out why he feels the need to crossdress and what it is that started him down this path. You both need more understanding and a LOT more communication. You might even be feeling a bit betrayed because he has been hiding this from you. And now you might be wondering what else he has been hiding from you. I'm pretty certain that this is it. it's a big deal especially to him. He is afraid that you will ridicule him and expose him. You have to remember that you are a partnership and that his secrets are yours and yours are his.

After all, here is a guy that you are already partners with, who would probably enjoy talking fashion with you, help paint each others nails, etc. Here is a guy that can appreciate what it means for a woman to get ready and pretty for her man. And between you both your intimate time can be augmented if you both accept the sensuousness that he will have as part of his feminine side. (Think of how soft and sensitive your skin is when its freshly shaved and lotioned.) Don't be afraid to set limitations too. For example: I don't ever dress when there are familiar children about.

And as an extra bonus, if he is wearing panties under his jeans all the time... just how likely is he going to want to take his pants off for any other woman. He will be a much more faithful husband this way. ;-)

Just so you know. I now have a girlfriend. She knows about my dressing and is an active participant. We do not hide it from each other or for that matter, anyone else. My family knows as does hers. There are no problems and we live happily and enjoy my feminine side as well as my masculine side.

And finally, may I suggest that you get and read a book called "My Husband Betty" by Helen Boyd.
Its an excellent book that describes a lot of what you are going through and how she dealt with it.

Hope this all helps.

How much money should I ask for my used clothes on Ebay?

Q. Saying 'used' sounds kind of gross. Most of what I'm selling has either not been worn at all or has been worn maybe once or twice. How much should I set my minimum bit for? For shirts? Jeans? Dresses? Shoes? What percent of the retail value I mean. Would having picures up significantly increase my number of bidders?

A. I sold nearly my entire high school and middle school wardrobe on eBay and used the money to purchase a whole new wardrobe for college/work, so it can be done. I charge about $6 - $8 per shirt. Unless it's is a really expensive brand like Anthropologie or J.Crew, you won't get any more than that. For dresses, you can charge $15 - $20 and shoes $8 - $12.

Take lots of photos. Try modeling your clothes, invest in a dress form, or photograph them in a nice staged area. I built a little photo studio in my bedroom.

How to completely change my style without seeming like a poser?
Q. I guess I'll get this out of the way, for years I've lived in sweats and such, and I've been getting things to change my style into that of a tumblr girl. II really love what I'm becoming because it feels like it's my style. No, I'm not a poser. I'm not doing this to be cool or liked. I'm doing this because I genuinely want to and I love the style. Because I am very socially anxious and awkward I have no clue how to change my style without people notice the transition.

I have everything need (skinny jeans, leggings, sweaters, red lipstick, mascara, thick brown hair and the base of a bedroom, complete with a bed, desk and book case) but I am puzzled as to what to decorate my bedroom with, and as to what else I can incorporate into my wardrobe to complete my desired style. Also, if you have any hair/makeup tips, that would be extremely helpful, but I think I can manage by myself if you don't have any.

Just to help you, this is a link to a room I like:
http://data.whicdn.com/images/47489225/tumblr_mfrpjqi7re1qjgz4ho1_500_large.jpg
And here's a link to some clothes I like:
http://www.polyvore.com/jadsf/set?id=65757739
http://www.polyvore.com/sdfghjhyuasdhjsf/set?id=63380817

So just to recap: how to start/do the whole change, any style tips and decorating tips would be appreciated.

Thank you so much ^_^

A. I don't think people will just immediately assume you're a poser, people change their styles all the time, it's just something you do until you find out what you like.

I changed my style about a year ago, and i just went right into it. It's a little easier if you start your change right after a break or a weekend, because then you've been away from people for a little bit and then you just come back all new. I'd just jump right in, your style is a way to express yourself, and if you think this style is you then show everyone else that :)

Style tips:
--maybe dye the tips of your hair, that seems to be pretty popular among my tumblr friends
--wear beanies :)
--fun shoes also seem to be pretty popular for this look (heels, boots, or patterned flats)
--i think the red lipstick look only works well if you have a fair complexion
--piercings are also pretty popular with this look, but you don't have to go that far

Honestly just have fun with the look, don't get so wrapped up in what the style actually is, just make it your own

Room Ideas:
--take a bunch of sharpies (or paint) and write your favourite quotes or poems or lyrics on the the walls
--christmas lights
--print out allll your favourite photos and make a photo wall
--my friend decorated a whole wall with sticky notes with reminders of her favourite things or memories.

good luck!

I put in a secret webcam and caught my 12 year old son dancing around in one of my sexy bra and?
Q. bikini panty sets and also wearing my cocktail dress and heels! It was both Hilarious and very weird!

I suspected someone had been into my lingerie but I was hoping it was one of his younger sisters.

What would you do?

A. Personally, I would do nothing. Making a big deal out of stuff like this often ends badly. Furthermore, telling him that you've been "spying" will knock a major dent in his trust. You don't want everyone to have that creepy "watched" feeling all the time, do you? On the other hand, I'm sure that you don't want to share your wardrobe with your son, so just discreetly get a lock for your bedroom door and if anyone asks about it, say that you think someone's been getting into your stuff. Ultimately, I think confessing to the webcam will make everyone feel angry and betrayed.

Hope that helps.

where can i find this bedroom set or something similar for a double (full) bed?

Q. im moving and im planing on buying a new bedroom set but not a new matress anyway this http://www2.jcpenney.com/jcp/ProductsHOM.aspx?DeptID=40525&CatID=40677&CatTyp=DEP&ItemTyp=G&GrpTyp=ENS&ItemID=107e7e5&ProdSeq=11&Cat=wood+beds&Dep=Furniture&PCat=BEDROOM+SETS&PCatID=40564&RefPage=ProductList&Sale=&ProdCount=25&RecPtr=&ShowMenu=&TTYP=&ShopBy=0&RefPageName=CategoryAll.aspx&RefCatID=40564&RefDeptID=40525&Page=99&CmCatId=40525|40529|40564|40677 is the set i want but it doesnt come in the right size for my matress so if you know a website where i can find something similar thatd be great
just let me know the website

thanks!

A. You can get a metal bed frame with adapter plates that will allow you to bolt on your HB and FB, but use your full-sized mattress instead of the queen-size. The only thing you would not be using would be the rails that come with the bed (if there are any). Any mattress store in your town carries metal frames, and they can help you choose the right one for the bed you are buying.

Advise for bedding and accessories for my soon to be bedroom?
Q. I am 14 years old and want to move into my guestbedroom that has fake, white-wash wood floors and lavender walls. I don't plan on changing any of that because I like the way it looks. Could someone give me a website of a place to look at what kind of comforter I could by that would match my room and maybe other things like pillows or wall decorations or anything you think would be good for the room? I want it to be kind of relaxing and not crazy poka-dots or stripes that take away from how i want it to look sophisticated and pretty, not crazy. Any ideas? Thanks so much.
What colors do you think would work well with the lavender walls?

A. What about something like this?

http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Plum-Mist-Quilt-Set-Full-Queen/2217511/product.html?IID=prod2217511

You might also consider a rich cream or slightly golden color. Sage also looks nice with lavender. Chocolate looks great.

You have quite a few options. It really depends on your style. Maybe you should look around websites like hgtv.com or bhg.com for inspiration and build from there.

You could try black and white and lavender.

Cream (or white) and lavender with soft yellows.

pale lime green...

So many options...

Possible to make a QUEEN size bed into a KING size bed?
Q. I've got a queen size bedroom set but upgraded to a king size bed (standard mattress type). I was thinking about using plywood and wood supports to set the new king size box on top of the old queen. Of course, the headboard and footboards would not be the proper size but I don't think I'll mind the 6 inch or so overhang. Has anyone tried this or seen it done? Thanks!
cherry, you may be right but just like any bedroom set under $5000 .... I won't get anything trying to sell it. Also, like any bedroom set you simply can't find or buy the bed alone. It's a big old ash set with a cannonball style bed. Impossible to even find something similar to match. :(

A. I'VE GOT ONE JUST LIKE IT.AS LONG AS YOU STAY TOWARDS THE CENTER OF THE BED, THEN IT IS ALL GOOD

What furniture goes with brown walls?
Q. My walls and drapes are chocolate brown, with white ceiling and moldings. I was thinking about black furniture but that might make the room too dark. I want to brighten up my bedroom, what color furniture should I go with?

A. Why not white??? Check out Bassett Furniture. There's a set called Aspen Grove - white with wood tops, & then another set in white called Southport. Then at Value City Furniture, there's Plantation Cove.

http://www.bassettfurniture.com/Twin-Full-Queen-and-King-White-Cream-Panel-Bed-DZ1107.asp

http://www.vcf.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=10153&langId=-1&partNumber=1082159&N=4294966666+0+4294967163&Nao=54&Ns=P_Price%7c0&categoryId=4294967293&referrer=shelfPage

There's a few versions of the Plantation Cove bed to choose from. And both furniture stores offer upholstered beds as well (Bassett's is much nicer, though) You could also consider doing an upholstered bed or headboard with the case pieces from one of the white collections I suggested.

The white will look stunning against the brown.

What is the best way to clean a used mattress?

Q. I'm planning to buy a used bedroom set to furnish a spare bedroom in my house. What's the best way to clean the mattress?

A. Go for it and do so with peace of mind! Approximately 74 out of 100 people will (correctly, from their "frame of reference") suggest that you simply replace the mattress. BUT, that's not necessary.

For generations upon generations (ask any octogenarian) people would routinely tote their mattresses outdoors every spring, and sometimes in the fall also, and literally beat the crap out them with a big stick, broom, 2 x 4, baseball bat, 9-iron, tennis racket, or whatever else they could find.

The purpose of doing so, was to remove the dust within the mattress. What was not known then, is known today. The "dust" was mostly shed human skin and the allergenic waste products of dust mites which love to eat shed human skin cells, along with mold, mildew, spores, fungi, pollen, pet dander, bacteria and viruses.

The very best you could do, or anybody else for that matter, is to hire a professional mattress cleaner that uses the "dry method cleaning process." Unfortunately, there are very few persons in the U.S. that provide this service.

SO...use the next best option. On a day forecasted to be bright and sunny with no rain in the forecast, take your mattress (and the the others) outside early in the morning and beat the crap out them. Prop them up so that they catch the morning sun and then re-position them so they catch the afternoon sun on the reverse side. Make sure the automatic sprinkler system doesn't start up. Once you have beaten the crap out of them and have used the sun's natural cleansing abilities (UVA and UVB light waves) tote the mattresses back indoors. Apply a very light misting of all natural, non-toxic, odorless enzyme cleaner on the surfaces of the mattresses. The enzyme mist should be dry to the touch within 5 minutes or else you have misted too heavily. Mist the pillows too. Each time you launder the mattress pad, apply the mist (very lightly) before replacing the mattress pad. The enzymes will "munch on" and slow down the growth of dust mite colonies, mold, mildew, fungi, spores, pollen, bacteria and viruses, until the next time you beat the crap out of your mattresses.

Some people may suggest you vacuum the mattress in position (in the bedroom) but unless you have the right vacuum and most likely you don't, I would not...unless you do it outdoors. Most vacuums, even the top ranked HEPA vacuums per the Consumer Report's magazine, still spew millions of dust particles into your indoor environment.

Since the mattress is for guests who may sleep on it only sporadically, go ahead and splurge on some 400 TC (thread count) sheets, or better. These sheets will have a pore size of about 6.5 microns (when new) which is small enough to act as a barrier between the smallest dust mites (20 microns at birth) and itch mites (different critters, aka scabies). However, dust mite allergens (DMA's) and other allergens will still pass through even a 400 TC sheet just as they will through a 2 micron dust mite-proof mattress pad.

If the used mattress you purchase has any foreign stains on it then check out the mattress stain removal link at the bottom of this reply. BTW, enzymes will, overtime, also eat away any organic stains on mattresses.

An average queen-sized mattress is host to around 2 million dust mites. A dust mite poops 20 to 30 fecal pellets, 15 microns in size, per day (actually night, as they are nocturnal). So that equates to 40-60 million FRESH fecal pellets in your mattress each morning you awake. Dust mites live for 100 days...so one average-sized colony leaves 40 to 60 TRILLION fecal pellets in your mattress over their lifetime and of course as they die off...many more replace the dead ones.

The digestive system of a dust mite produces a protein called guanine. The guanine breaks down hard to digest foods which also allows dust mites to practice "corphagia" meaning they can survive by eating their own feces just in case you decide to put a mite-proof mattress cover on your mattress.

The fecal pellets dry up and become powdery thus reducing the 15 micron size to an even much smaller size. All the contaminants in your bed become airborne each time you roll over in bed (50 to 60 times per night is average) or each time you fluff your pillow, or of course every time you and your significant other bounce on the bed.

When inhaled, guanine attaches to lung walls and kills healthy lung cells by suffocation.

BTW, the weight of a new pillow can increase 10%-25% in just a couple of years.

Dust mites have been around for about 300 million years, 2 months, and 4 days. They discovered man after man began sleeping on mattresses about 8 to 10 thousand years ago. Man discovered the absolutely healthy need to sleep on hygienic mattresses on, or about April 1st, 5993 B.C. But and for some unproven reason, man then forgot about the healthful benefits of sleeping on clean mattresses and pillows sometime around 1967 (LSD maybe?).

So here's the bottom line...practice mattress hygiene...

it's so easy, even a caveman can do it!

Where can I buy a good quality comforter?
Q. ok so me and my boyfriend just bought a brand new bedroom set and mattress. But now we need a comforter set to go with it but we don't know where to get a good quality one that's not too expensive. Anywhere between 50-100 dollars is my price range. I live in the san francisco bay area. where can I buy a good quality comforter set for a queen size mattress?

A. Try Amazon...
http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fgp%2Ffeature.html%3Fie%3DUTF8%26plgroup%3D2%26ref%255F%3Damb%255Flink%255F84178231%255F4%26docId%3D1000366971&tag=innovatincuba-20

Can i buy a queen size head and foot board for a full size bed?
Q. I seen this bedroom set at the room place website and i cant find that anywhere else or in a full. If it can be done, please tell me how. Thank you so much in advance.

A. Yes many queen size headboard and footboards have 2 sets of slots one for a queen steel bed rails and one set for full size bed rails. You would be better served going into a mattress store like a mattress firm or giant or some other mattress store in your area. They may even have one set up you can see. If you don'f have a second set of slots they make something that will work that are often called conversion rails or plates. Tell the store what you want to do, they can get what you need.

How do I match up a bed frame to my headboard?
Q. Recently I bought a bedroom set and it came with a headboard. The headboard supports a queen size bed. I had a full-size bed. If I find a good bed frame how can I know if it will attach? I guess they all come with something for connecting the frame to the headboard? I did find a bed frame at Wallmart but it it says it doesn't require the box spring. So, maybe it will be too high to connect onto the headboard.
Thanks in advance for the help,
Bruce

A. You have to match the frame to the headboard. If you have a queen-sized headboard and a full-sized bed frame, the headboard will be too big. If you want to use it anyway, you will have to make some adapter brackets.

redecorating my room? ?
Q. Well, I am redecorating my bedroom. And, I'm stuck for ideas and colors and decor, ETC. I'll tell you about me, and what type of things I like. 1stly, I am very romantic (like flowers everywhere, and so on), I'm quiet girly, and I love the old fashioned houses and decor - especially the Georgian period.
So, please help me decide; what colour to paint my walls, what duvets to have, carpets and lights. all suggestions are appreciated!

thank you so much

I think it's all about the bedding. Layers of florals mixed with checks and stripes, a chandelier and beautiful lightening. The colors should be soft pinks and yellows with lots of white. A canopy is always romantic. String white lights on a fake tree for instant romance. Have you looked at the shabby chic line at Target? That may be the place to start.

this is tha bedroom set:

http://www.bedroomsets.com/Lea-Industries-157-Series-PCSBS-LK1905.html

i was thinking maybe tha wall where tha bed will be paint that a diffrent color... or maybe i can paint two walls another color and leave the other two green since i cant paint tha closet cuz ima hv to take all tha racks out. soo wut should i doo...any suggestions?

A. A light green would be fine, but maybe a a different color wall for where the bed is, like a maybe a deeper green, or a light, chocolate shake brown, would look nice.

Bedroom decoration ideas?
Q. I want to re decorate my bedroom, want to have feature wall of one colour ( purple or shocking pink)
and the rest a ligh colour, Then i might not find the accessories to match my feature wall.

I want to go neutral now, like ivory or beige, and add shockin pink accesories in the room.

What do you guys think??

Any suggestions welcome thanks :)

A. Hey. For the bed you can make it ivory, like you said and the set two but you can insert the schockin pink in the pillows. you can get a pink chandelier, or pink LED light bulbs or pink neon lights. the effect is rlyy nice. if you have a chandelier with no pink on it you can tie some pink ribbons on it. its rly cute. if you have a makeup set.make sure its flashy and put it next to a very flashy kind of mirror. dont hesitate on putting other mirrors on the wall! it will make the room lk larger and nicer and even work on the carpet! its a very important element!
Hope I helped You =) if you have a question or want more ideas here's my email : bebe.lea@hotmail.com =)

How much would a bedroom set from the 1880s cost?

Q. does anyone out there know? I inherited a bedroom set and a dining room table from the 1880' s and i was curious on how much they were worth.....they're in great condition and i'm having them cleaned by a profesional. I can't seem to find a answer browsing the web.

A. You need to get it appraised by an antique dealer. It really depends on the set itself.

I want to paint my room gray, and have a theme of gray and purple. What color gray should I paint it?

Q. My room is a medium size. My bedroom set is a brown that looks almost black. I want to have a purple/plum bed spread, and other decorations purple (plum), black, and white. Would it look better with a light or dark gray?
Also if you find any plum bed spreads for cheap that would be great.
Could you show me pictures of a cool bed spread or gray room

A. I agree with the other person who answered. I think a light to medium gray would go best unless you want your room very dark, then go for a dark gray. My personal opinion is that a stormy light gray would be nice.

Also, if you painted the walls a dark gray, it would make the room look smaller. This way, a light gray would make the room look bigger and your dark bed would look smaller making your bedroom appear open and roomy.

For my air conditioner at home, what would I have to do to manage each room individually?
Q. I have a 5 bedroom house and instead of being able to set the air conditioner to cool the entire house, I would like to change it so it cools specific rooms, and I could have different rooms at different temperatures. The goal is to cool small rooms without wasting energy (and money) instead of cooling the entire house.

What kind of parts and I looking at buying to achieve this, and roughly what would these parts cost?

A. It's called a zone control Damper and will probably run around $200.00 a room for parts and installation.

How should i decorate my new room?
Q. I have old wooden marble bedroom set. My bed is wooden and my bedside table and my dresser is wooden with marble top. I want my new bedroom really pretty and cool. Im 14 and i want my room to look my age.Im moving soon .How should i decorate my new room?

A. If possible, try painting your room. You can get your hands on a bulletin board from a garage sale or a store and tack up pictures of yourself and friends. Try getting curtains that go with the mood of the room.(Yes, i do realize curtains sounds lame, but it works, trust me.) Ikea and target have some cute lamps, or you can grab some from pretty much anywhere. A cheap shaggy rug and a final poster on the wall should finish off the look. After that, you can put up small things, like a painting or drawing you or a friend made, maybe a full length mirror on the back of your door?

How can I make my bedroom look smaller?
Q. I prefer a smaller, cozier room. My cousins have a very small, cozy room. I kinda want mine to look like theirs. How can I make my room look smaller and cozier? My room is big.

A. No construction needed. Separate your room into useful areas designated for certain things. Put your bed furniture on one side of the room, and separate that side with a piece of furniture like a small table or desk, and fix the other side with some comfy seating for chatting with your friends, or reading or studying. So, just set it up like it were 2 small rooms, but separate the areas with furniture. You could also use a chaise, the kind with 2 sides, connected in an L shape, the hollywood glam type. Or a large ottoman that could be used for seating, that would separate the areas, but looks both directions. You could also use 2 room dividers, one on each side of the room, or even 2 large plants on each side to separate. There are so many ways to do this, I hope these ideas inspire you, you may come up with a great idea of your own.

how to get rid of a fitted wardrobe in your bedroom - yourself?

Q. i want to get rid of the fitted wardrobe in my room. cant afford to get someone to do it for me and i want to do it by myself. this is no joke.

ive emptied it out and am still trying to convice my parents to let me do it, but where do i start? do i just like take an axe and fire away?
lol it is really huge and ugly, i dont know who on earth could have bought the thing but it was already fitted by the previous owner when we moved into the house.

A. -snickers-
If it makes you feel better your problem is not unuiqe. My mom had furniture she hated to. I would say set fire to the blasted thing but that might have lasting effects you really dont want so- this i would say no too. I know pretend to have one of your friends steal it ;)

How to have a scene bathroom and bedroom?
Q. ok so im redoing my room. im scene. i love neon colors and bright things. what color should i paint my walls? im a girl and im 13. im also redoing my bathroom, any good sights for scene girl bedroom and bathrooms? and comforters, wall colors, hangings, accesoreis for room? thanks
Gabby

A. BRIGHT ELECTRIC purple feature wall. The rest of the walls are light blue but that is the colour of my entire house so just do white. I have Zebra pattern anywhere I can. You can also use fluro-ish leapord spots. This looks hectic. FLUFFY cushion EVERYWHERE! I have a random Giraffe statue in my room and 2 albino stuffed tigers (FAKE...like a toy...not real)
Bright coloured or leapord/zebra bed spread looks kool and I have a BIG random silver curtain on one wall (even tough there are no windows.....i just pull it back to reveal photos of all my friends)
I also have these awesome antique set of draws which looks kool and a random set of stairs. don't know why but I love random things.
I have a set of black angel wings on my wall but you could also use cute fairy wings.

My friend got lots of random labels, brosures ETC and stuck them with blue tack on one wall. Free awesome feature wall was created.

and one thing you NEED (but i don't have *cries*) is a beanbag.

Hope this helps

Look out for some really cool, vintage furniture pieces at charity stores or whatever, get some really classic, unusual curtains too, or you could make some out of fabric from a fabric store, pick out some that you like which could be black (black would make good curtains).

Get a load of posters of bands you like and stick them up on the walls, depends where you live, but AllPosters.co.uk has a large selection and their prices are quite fair, so you could take a look there.
As for paint, I'd say hot pink - or maybe you could wallpaper one wall - I saw this one scene girl's bedroom and she had hot pink and white striped wallpaper, which looked really cool.

Also, you should hang a load of your clothes off the front of your wardrobe, that can really improve a room. You could get a string of christmas tree lights too and string them up (they'll be cheap this time of year).

I think that would be a good start. Hope I gave you a few ideas :)

A black and white theme is cool with pops of neon colors!
Try painting your walls a neutral gray.
If you can get drak or black furniture.
Top your bed witha white bedspread or one with blacka nd white or a really bright comforter.
Add lots of pillows in bright neon colors and incorporate through your room with accessories.
Try investing a cool chandeleir.
For a cool way to store your memories get a huge frame(they have them at places like walgreens)
Paint the peice of cardboard black and splattter with neon colors and silver and place pictures on there
Also have lots of posters!

how to add awesomeness to my teen bedroom?
Q. Need inspiration, im a thirteen year old girl and like pretty much everything. just anything i could make for my bedroom.

A. When I was 15 I went through the stage of completely re-designing my small four wall room and I'm so glad I did because I love my room! First I chose the theme I'd be going for which is really girly! I have dark blue carpet but I did not let this bother me. So I painted three of my walls purple and added purple hearts as a border in the middle of each wall horizontally, and then one wall hot pink with black stencils ontop, it made my room so much more brighter! I then decorated most things in pink and purple to match the walls.. and having the furniture either white or silver to break away from all the colours. The paint was cheap for my walls, one large can of purple, one large can of hot pink and one small can of black. I got one of my family members to paint my walls and then my mother stenciled black patterns onto one of my walls so there was no cost in hiring a painter to paint my room!

I then bought new bed sheets and pillows in bright colours to make my room really bright and girly, and accessorised mainly in pink, purple and bright colours. Things like candles are cheap and look really good in your room, also a bonus that they smell really nice!

With your old furniture, you can still change it for a cheap price. I have all white furniture apart from the new silver queen size bed i bought and silver accesories around my room. What I did was kept my white dressing table with the mirror attatched but simply removed the original knobs that were on each drawer and bought silver round knobs which matched my bed, that was a great idea to do instead of the ugly little girl floral knobs I had on it originally!

Accesories with picture frames of your heroes or singers/actors that you like, and a few with your friends of course! All you will be paying for is a new bed, paint, new bed sheets and pillows, few candles and picture frames and you should be set!

Here's some photos of my room for inspiration and ideas, enjoy!

Where can i find teen bedroom accessories?
Q. Good websites to find comforters, night stands, dressers, desks, vanity, lounge chairs, throw pillows, blankets, rungs, lamps, string lights, wall decorations, storage, picture frames, mirrors, decorative cork boards and magnetic dry erase boards, desk accessories? I want to do a zebra and hot pink theme and Im trying to find accessories to match.. Please help! I've already looked at PBteen.com and wakeupfrankie.com, but they're a little pricey... Any othe websites?

A. I'm assuming you've already bought bedding, if not, maybe something like this:

http://www.beyond-bedding.com/hot-pink-zebra-print-full-queen-teens-kids-bedding-set.html

For furniture, try ikea.com - it will be inexpensive and you'll be able to get the night stands, dressers, and desks there. I'd go with either white or black furniture to complement the bedding.
You can also try walmart and target if you are concerned with price.

Wall decorations- The bedding set shows wall hangings which can be purchased at the same site as the bedding (beyond-bedding). In addition, you can buy decorative throw pillows, windows treatments, Funky Zebra Fabric Memory/Memo Photo Bulletin Board, and even lamp shades

Frames - Buy these anywhere. You can get these very cheaply. I'd suggest a $1 can of spray paint so you can change the color of the frames for a customized look (I'd spray a few black, a few white and perhaps a few hot pink - though you could easily paint a zebra design - cheap and easy)

Mirrors - Again, buy the cheapest mirror you can find and custom paint it (Walmart or other discount store). If you must have a zebra print mirror, check this one out:

http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=zebra+mirror&rls=com.microsoft:en-us&oe=UTF-8&startIndex=&startPage=1&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=8249285435254738615&ei=pIckTc7QL8T48Aayo8CGAg&sa=X&oi=product_catalog_result&ct=result&resnum=4&ved=0CDgQ8wIwAw#

Rug - Walmart has several different style choices. Like this one:
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Home-Dynamix-Zone-7160-Zebra-Print-Rug/12087183?findingMethod=rr

Blanket/Throw: Again, walmart has a cheap solution that comes in several colors

http://www.walmart.com/search/search-ng.do?search_query=zebra+throw&ic=48_0&Find=Find&search_constraint=4044

As far as accessorizing goes, keep in mind that a little zebra goes a long way. If you have zebra print bedding, you may want to consider solids for the lounge chair and/or throw and accent pillows. I'd pick up a lot of solids for accessories (black or white vase maybe with hot pink flowers) again, solid colored picture frames. Walmart also sells cork boards. You can paint these or cover them in a zebra fabric (or complementary fabric) and embellish it with grosgrain hot pink ribbon.

Please remember that a cheap can of spray paint can help you achieve the look you are after. Best of Luck.

Can I paint my bedroom set & if so how?

Q. My husband & I recently bought a bedroom set off of Ebay. And while it isn't exactly our style we've decided to make due with it. I would however like to darken in up a bit using paint. The set includes a headboard, long dresser, two mirrors and tall chest/armoire. The problem is that the set is made of half wood and half plastic. Odd! I know. The plastic decorative parts cannot be removed. Can I paint this set? Prime and spray paint it perhaps? And if so, what kind of paint do I use? Thanks in advance.

A. My hubby and I have painted veneer furniture to make it look for modern contemporary. Here is how we do it. First lightly sand. Then spray with that spray primer that looks terra cotta colored. After that is dry spray with flat black paint. Start at the edges making them dark and work your way toward the middle so that a little bit of the primer shows through. Let dry a little bit and then spray with a polyurathane varnish either in matt or gloss. While the poly is still wet lightly, very lightly brush with the grain back and forth to make it look a little like wood grain. It will be dark but a little lighter toward the middle parts of each peace. Go to some furniture stores and look at some of the dark wood peices to see what I mean.

Also I did this to a dresser that we use in our office. It is a piece from the '70s an very contemporary in style. It was already a medium colored wood but I applied a darker stain with a rag and let dry. Took a while though. After that I took another lighter stain and a rounded brush and dabbed the stain on. I would kinda swish the brush to give it a mottled /burled look. We have gotten a lot of complements on how pretty it is. Experiement, you never know what you will come up with

Is there a big difference between coffee and espresso colored furniture?
Q. I am trying to complete a bedroom set by purchasing different parts from different sets. The headboard I bought was beautiful, but the dressers and armoires weren't. So I'm putting together my own "set". I would consider my headboard to be an espresso color and there is a dresser online that is considered "coffee" color. There are other dressers that are espresso but I L0VE this dresser. If I were to purchase it would the colors be totally off?

A. Espresso is nearly black Coffee is a very dark brown ..As far as the colors being off...yes depends on their proximity and the lighting too. PLus the colors are wildly different manufacturer to manufacturer. It could work especially if it is multitoned.. What I would do is take a photo that accurately represents the color of the headboard and email it to them but their monitors could be skewed.

I have a brown/tan/bronze lamp set...?
Q. I'm trying to coordinate my bedroom and my "inspiration pieces" are my lamp set. They're brown/bronze and have suede tan shades on them. I don't have any pictures of them, but the ones on these pages somewhat resemble them.

http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Antique-Style-Silk-Shade-Table-Lamps-Set-of-2/2485316/product.html

The feeling I'm going for is comfortble luxury. I want my bedroom to be a sophisticated retreat that my boyfriend (as it is his room, too) and I can enjoy and relax in together. I have a cream/sage flower bedspread that is nice and matches, but it simply doesn't go with the lamps I'd really like some suggestions from people who are more decorating-inclined than I am. Our room is approximately a 10' to 12' square. We also have a queen sized bed that takes up a good chunk of the room. Any ideas?
Also worth noting:

We have three cats and a pit bull/boxer mix that the fabrics have to be able to stand up to. We have a snake whose cage stays in our room, approximately 4' wide by 3' deep by 4' high.
I'd have to clear any painting with my landlord. We had gone over that subject a little bit a while back and she mentioned wanting to approve the color first, then see the finished product for further approval. (Since it's her place, I can't really argue with that...)

A. 1] ivory or off-white walls
2] Bronze or tan satin or velvet comforter or spread, with matching drapes if possible
3] espresso brown, tan, bronze throw pillows for bed
4] tan suede throw?
5] use a short chests of drawers [ small dresser if it fits ] on either side of bed, instead of night tables
6] add copper or bronze candlesticks, ivory candles
7] copper or bronze framed pic/posters/photos
8] add flowers, or a green plant
9] add a comfy chair to sit in[ tan suede or brown velvet ], to relax or put shoes on

How to make my bedroom better!?

Q. Hi everyone! So im 14 and I want to make my room alot more like a teen bedroom, but i dont mean like posters of bands and all that stuff, i want like bright colors and cool stuff like that, somewhere where me and my friends can just hang out, right now my room is soo broing, the walls are a light pale purple white yellowish-white carpet and white furniture and my bed doesnt have a headboard, it has one of those white net-canopy things, I;v tried re arranging the furniture and everythign but it still doesnt work. I shtere any way I could make a huge difference without having to paint the walls or buy a bunch of new stuff, I can buy some new stuff just not paint and new bed sets and stuff. Anyway, any help would be appreciated, Thanks! And by the way if anybody knows any sites with good tips for teen bedrooms that would help alot oo! Thanks!
By the way, my room isnt very big and the furniture is pretty outdated.

A. Try looking for a new comforter, pillows and sheets for your bed. You could look at target.com, delias.com, or even ebay.com, which has thousands of bed options! For a splash of color, buy bright accessories for your white furniture- maybe a bright notebook to put on your desk, or bright jewelry to hang on your dresser.

Also, to brighten up your canopy, go out and find 4 colors of ribbon that you like and would match your room well. Cut these into 3 feet long pieces and tie into bows, then safety pin or glue to the canopy. It adds interest, dimension, and an overall pretty quality.

If you have curtains, you can also tie these back using the same ribbon you used for the canopy.

Find a cute rug and lay it by your door or your bed. If it's soft, it feels great to step onto first thing in the morning!

Get a bulletin board, cute wrapping paper, matching buttons, and ribbon. Glue the wrapping paper to the board, then make a criss-cross design with the ribbon. Stick photos and such behind the ribbon for an extremely cute bulletin board!
(If you don't know what I'm talking about, click here for a visual:

I hope that helps you! Good luck with your room.

How many windows does a bedroom have to have to be considered a bedroom?
Q.

A. You can sleep anywhere you like, but to sell a house as having "x" number of bedrooms, each bedroom you claim has to meet a legal standard set by building codes.

Legal bedrooms need an egress window, as others have said. This window must be operable (capable of opening) and a certain minimum size, both total area, and in each dimension. The size is determined by local building codes, but there are national standards. Your city planning department can give you correct info for your area. I haven't heard of the closet requirement--all the remodel jobs I've done either had closets already or the clients wanted one, so it wasn't an issue. I'm remodeling my own house now, so will check that requirement out. In my area, there is also a minimum floor area for a legal bedroom--100 SF, I believe.

What do I need for my first home?
Q. Furniture, linens, pots & pans, everything.

What do I need for :

-Foyer/Hall
-Dining Room
-Kitchen
-Living Room
-Bathroom
-Master Bedroom
-two other bedrooms
-Two car garage
-Basement

Please be detailed, if you have a link to a website that would be great too !

God Bless xx

A. Start out basic and then you can add on.

If you don't have anything at all to start with but have unlimited resources financially, hire a decorator.

If not, find a comfortable bed you like, set of dishes, pots and pans, cooking utensils, throw rugs, sofa, reading chair, a few end tables, night stand, set of towels you like the color of, and then build on those. Curtains last.

Bedding depends upon the climate. Light blankets for warmer climates and down or wool quilts for winters where there is snow and possible power outages.

For outside there are two basics; a lawn mower and a garden hose.

You will figure out how much stuff you need and the sizes of beds and how much furniture can hold based upon the dimensions of each room. A large basket of towels may not fit in a master bathroom, but it can if the size is right and ease space in the linen storage area.

If you travel a lot it's much easier if you have no live plants or pets to take care of.

What is a good paint color for a bedroom?
Q. They have many colors to choose from these days any suggestions ??Looking not to dark and not to light in between color to add life to my room ...

A. It depends on what mood you wish to achieve for your bedroom. Different colors are said to have different effects on the human psychology. For more information, you might like to look up color psychology for this. Color psychology is a study concerned with the effects of color on mood, emotion, behavior.

Color is also often used to represent certain characteristics or image, depending on what the room is used for. Here are some ways colors are used, either psychologically or as a representation of certain ideas/image-building:-

Blue - calls to mind feelings of calmness or serenity. It is often described as peaceful, tranquil, secure, and orderly. Some would say that a blue space feels cooler too!

Yellow - a bright color that is often described as cheery and warm. Ive read somewhere that a yellow room feels warmer somehow compared to a room with the same dimensions and temperature setting that is painted blue.

Red - a bright, warm color that evokes strong emotions. Deep Red or maroon is also often related to passion. Ive read somewhere that the color red and orange could help trigger hungry thoughts, and thats why many restaurants (especially fast food retails) use a lot of red in their decors and corporate logos.

Green - a cool color that symbolizes nature and the natural world. Some say its a good color for spiritual healing.

Pink - essentially a light red and is usually associated with love and romance. Its also often thought of as a color to express femininity

Purple - the symbol of royalty and wealth. A rich and luxurious color and rather overwhelming if applied to every plane of the bedroom walls especially if the room is small. You might like to use it only as a feature wall (like, where your beds headboard rests against) and have all the other walls in lighter or softer colors.

White represents purity or innocence. It also makes the room feel airier and bigger. Its also the most environmental-friendly color choice because it reflects light so you dont need to use that many lighting fixtures at one time or another.

Black is often associated with death and morning in many cultures. It is also associated with unhappiness, and even sexuality (masculine). On the other hand, black also represents formality, and sophistication. Imagine a combination of black and silver. Or black and gold.

Brown is a natural color that evokes a sense of strength and reliability. Personally, I wouldnt use brown paint for internal walls. Brownish wallpapers are okay or if I want a more natural feel to areas like the kitchen or living room, Ill just use natural stone cladding or timber paneling for the feature walls.

Whoa okay so I like talking about spatial treatment it's a part of my job! Sorry for rambling on so. Anyway, heres a website that could help derive the perfect paint color for you. http://www.dulux.co.uk/colours/experts/colour_consultant/index.jsp

Happy painting, Rita!

When you buy a bedroom set from Macy's, do they include the mattress?

Q. Hello

I am interested in purchasing a bedroom set from Macy's but was informed by a friend that Macy's gives u the mattress when u purchase the bedroom set. Is that true?

A. Highly doubt it, unless there is a promotion going on or something

What would be the proper etiquette for this situation?
Q. So, my husband and I are going to look at a bedroom set off Craigslist this afternoon. It includes the mattress. I want to try the mattress out and everything but I don't want to look like a weirdo considering it is in their private home. So, since I've never done this before, I was hoping for some words of advice...Should I just feel the mattress with my hand? Ask permission to lay down on it? Just *hope* it's comfortable and wait until I get it home to try it out? Please Help!!

A. I'm with Therese and Suri (1st poster)--

IF you can at all afford it right now, grab a new mattress; or, alternatively, one from places that have fumigated the still-good used mattress and vacuum-packed it-- (often agencies dealing in social services know of such places)-- But-- with all the knowledge we have of diseases--viruses, we have no idea who is carrying what--and not to sound gross or nasty-- but let's be real-- how much clothing is worn during sleep (never mind other possible activities), so how much skin cells (ie-- bed-bugs, tiny microscopic nastiest) are filling the mattress.

BUT, if you're bound to purchase this bed;

Ensure you SEE the mattress--itself-- box-springs and top--- no bedding-- you need to see what you're really getting-- do you want something that might have stains (and who knows how they came to be there?) on it: then know forehand-- Never forget-- in private deals like this-- it's "buyer beware" !!

Without being rude, do tell the sellers you want to lie down on the bed, (but have a flat-sheet tucked into your purse-- DO put it on top the mattress before you lie down; it's a subtle way of playing with their mind-- they'll pipe up and say something to defend why you needn't worry-- which provides you with an opening along the lines of "oh, so it's been professionally steam cleaned and you can guarantee I can sleep naked on the mattress? Then watch their faces-- listen to any catches in the voice-- that's body-language telling you if they're hiding something and about to lie-- If they hedge-- ask for proof-- and then toss in something along the lines of being willing to overlook that if they drop the price 150 bucks-- :-)

Make sure you check the framing too-- no hidden cracks where it'll give when you sit/lie. As regards the actual night stands, chest of drawers and dresser, do a thorough check on the smooth workings of the drawers and hinges-- check the backs of things to see if there are any cracks-- look at the levelness (or lack thereof) of the inside of the drawers-- (the bottom--heavy items will have warped the drawer, a pain to open and close for you, right? )---- check for any black or white flecks of something-- it could mean some small bug droppings-- which means-- eggs.

DO payattention to the overall way the house is kept, that'll give you an idea of how the bedroom suite/mattress has been kept-- ask if they still have the receipt for the mattress, so you get an idea of how much life there still is in it.

When you settle on a price-- do get a steam cleaner from the grocery store-- clean the mattresses and buy a mattress cover, just to be on the safe side. All the best ~~

When you buy a bedroom set does it come with the Matress too?
Q. I am looking online for a bedroom set and it does not say anything about a Matress included.. I need to know if i need to save money for a matress too.

A. usually the mattress and box springs are sold seperately from the bedroom set. make sure when you purchase the mattress, you are getting the set.

i don't recommend buying a mattress online. this is a product you need to see, touch and feel before buying

Where to buy a new Bedroom set from ?
Q. I would like to buy a new bedroom set. Bed, Side tables, Dresser, mirror. Mattress would be extra King Size would be great.

Would you buy from Art Van, Gardner White, Direct Buy, Value City, Cost Co, Sam's Club ?

Is furniture made with quality these days ? What are the brands that you think of when you want to buy furniture.

Budget ~ $3000 includes king size mattress.

Your thoughts and guidance.

A. Many of those stores will have complete bedroom sets that will hit your 3000.00 budet. Go shop and find the one that appeals to you. If you are confused as to which company is best then check them out on the BBB to see how they service their customers. http://www.bbb.org/
