Where can i buy twin size mattress bed sets NOT for kids?

Q. I am older but i have a small room and im wating to get a beautiful bed set but everytime i find something i like its for a queen or a full. Where do i find twin sets that still look nice and not for just kids.

I live in the kansas city aria in missouri. I tried gordmans but they have for NOTHING for twin not even kid stuff.
i dont mind shopping at walmart but they only have colors that would not match my room and i dont like purple i dont want that in my room i was wanting something brown with tan or even a maroon with brown or tan and maybe a litle orange thrown in

A. I found this beautiful mattlasse set at Penney's which is available in several pretty colors to mix & match. The spice & chocolate colors are beautiful. If you go to the main page there's a similar one by Chris Madden.

With a small room you may want to save your prints for accent pillows & a coverlet. Paint your room 2 shades lighter than your bedspread color & use just a simple blind or shade for your window. Then paint your ceiling 2 shades lighter than the wall color. The only stark contrast in the room should be your trim, which will look best in a cream or white.

Make sure there's sparkle in the room with your lamps. To save space, use a swing arm lamp over your nightstand.

Pick up your accent color in your wall decor. You may want to consider using an unframed canvas print.

Using texture like this will give your room a sophisticated & interesting look. Often times a piece of wall decor that you like will be the inspiration for the rest of the room.

How long does it usually take to get bedroom furniture? Do most stores have you "order" the furniture?

Q. I'm in the market for some new bedroom furniture. I'm not necessarily in a hurry to get it, but I am curious about how long I can expect the process to take. I plan on buying from a "showroom" type furniture store, as opposed to a warehouse or clearance center. Plus, I'm getting a king bed and I hear that most stores cater towards customers looking for queens. I guess I will have to "order" the furniture. If you ordered from a store like this, how long did it take?

Also, I did find one set that i like, but i was told they cant deliver for 7-8 weeks due to back order. Is that standard wait time or way too long?

A. If you really like the set and the price, then I guess it is worth the wait.

I had to wait that long to get the living room sofa I special ordered.

And my bed took even longer but then we had an artist make a special headboard.

How can I stay and work in Ireland?

Q. One of my friends and I are planning on moving to Ireland for a gap year. Where would be the best place for us to move? We would like to find jobs and rent an apartment. We are looking for a fairly cheap area. It does not matter to use if we are in a city or not but we would like to be relatively close to some fun nightlife. Anything you could give us would be great. If you know about any place to 19 year olds could work that would be amazing also. Also I was looking into going to university there or taking a few classes so any suggestions on that would be nice too.

A. Well done for wishing to try out this beautiful island!
You could find yourselves a bit spoiled for choice. There are many places to consider so you may want to research each to make your minds up. The good thing is, you can get around the whole island fairly easily and you wherever you set up base, be sure to visit all the main culture centres.
All cities here have their good bits and bad, cheap and upmarket. Here in Belfast where I live is fantastic, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
If you are not too fussy there are furnished apartments or 2 bedroom houses for as little as £300 p.c.m.
However, furnished might mean just a sofa and a single bed in an otherwise empty house so always check exactly what you're paying for and you can often negotiate your lease to run month to month.
There are 2 Universities in Belfast you might want to check out. The first is Queens University, which is located close to the city centre. It has so much going on there, you should look it up. The building itself is beautiful but I'm biased because I went there!
The other is the University of Ulster. There are campus' around Northern Ireland, but again the Belfast campus is in the city centre. Student life in Belfast can be wild at times but it is what you
make it. I am proud to say Belfast is one of the safest ( yes, safest!! ) cities in the U.K. and Ireland.
As for work, all the major supermarkets absolutely love students so that shouldn't be a problem! Pick up an application form from customer services like I did. And if like me your luck is in, you'll start 3 days later!
Hope some of this has been helpful. Belfast loves to welcome people from all across the globe and friendlier warmer people you will not meet.
Its a great base to explore the entire island. You can get to Dublin in about 1hr 30. Cork is beautiful, my wife lived there for 5 years. If you like fishing, Galway and Mayo are fantastic. Fermanagh has loads to do. Basically everywhere on this island has something so pick a good base and take in as much of it as you can. I suppose I should mention flights to Europe are cheap from Ireland so you can always nip off to Paris, Rome or Madrid for a weekend too. I'm telling you, you will not want to leave these shores once you arrive. I know. I moved here from the Netherlands in 1995 and haven't looked back!
Best of luck and I wish you and yours all the very best!

Which direction should my house face?

Q. i am about to buy a house in tampa, florida. i was wondering, which direction would make the best sense. right off the drive way, there is a garage and on the other side we've a lanai and a backyard. master bed room and kitchen are on the same side of the house. we're not planning to have a pool. you can see the floor plan at http://image60.webshots.com/460/1/96/47/2144196470048757535EmZHOu_fs.jpg and the site plan at http://image62.webshots.com/462/6/68/18/2445668180048757535xmRdYq_fs.jpg . all the lots marked with pen are available.
i would like to know other people's take on it as well as their experience.

appreciate the reply

A. if you have a split a/c system ( your biggest power eater ) public & sleeping, then you would want your bedrooms to be on the east side. your a/c won't have to fight the setting sun

Why is my electricity bill so high?

Q. I just moved into a small 1 br apartment in Gainesville, FL to attend the University of Florida as a grad student. I had previously stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment (including washing machine and dryer) and used <500 KWH per month. Just received my 1st full month's bill from GRU and it's 871 KWH for 33 days. That's $126! I'm extremely conservative (central air is usually set at ~75/80 degrees, lights are kept off when not in use) and I don't even have a washer/dryer here as I did in my previous apartment.

Could something be wrong with my meter?
It is a 2 level apt/townhouse, so I guess that may be 1 contributing factor as one responder indicated....
I actually turned my central air off at the breaker as of today. I'm pretty sure that is a major culprit. Guess that will eliminate any problems with poor insulation, etc. right??? This adjustment shouldn't phase me since I'm in Florida. I simply can't afford it: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AmBeAKQbY14vHdbNTdTE88_sy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20080926174623AA3GmN9

A. I answer this question in detail in my article, "Why is my electric bill so high?" at http://michaelbluejay.com/electricity/whyhigh.html but I'll give you a short summary here.

(1) It's likely mostly from your air conditioning.

(2) You are not "extremely conservative" if you run air conditioning at all, much less at 75 degrees! You might say that most people do so, but that would make that action "typical", not "extremely conservative".

(3) Turn off all your breakers and look at your electric meter. Did it stop spinning? If so, your meter's not broken. Don't waste your electric company's time by complaining to them. It's not their fault or problem.

(4) The answer about needing to unplug things you're not using is flat-out wrong. The small amount of vampire power is not the biggest part of your bill.

(5) Paul's suggestion that you match the reading on your electric meter with what's printed on your bill is spot-on. Make sure they didn't charge you for more than the meter says.

what is the average utilities bill for a 3 bedroom apartment with 4 people?

Q. My 3 friends and I are looking into moving into 3 bedroom apartment. The rent is $800.00 per month plus water and electric utilities. How much do you think our utilities bill will be per month? We will be living in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.

A. Let do the numbers, to see what we come up with? Rent divided $800 by 4 = $200. each for rent ***** Light bill $150.00 mo. divided by 4 =$37.75 each approx *****Water bill divided $75.00X4 =$18.75 month ****** Groceries $300.00 each per month X 4 =$!,200. 00 total per month ************** Rent$200.00ea .lights+$37.75ea. Water +$18.75+ Groceries $300.00 =$556.50 each Note: Groceries are added in also. There will always be the so called moochers! That will eat everything! Use these figures to see how close I am. All rent has to be paid on time by a certain date. A contract will have to be set up and each person sign it, so they all know what there obligations are monthly. Groceries seem high, but take $300.00 each divided by 30 days= $10.00 per day for food. so my figures are close.

Q. I'll be staying in this place for 7 months, but then I'm leaving to study abroad in Spain and I don't want to have to pay the storage fees after I leave.

But then of course when I come back I'll need more furniture too, so should I go ahead and buy some cheap furniture and just pay the storage costs?

A. how long will you be gone untill you come back. check storage prices i don't think storage is cheap.

What are the cost invoved in refinishing furniture for DIY. I found a 5 piece Bedroom set that needs.....?

Q. Essentially this is it http://baltimore.craigslist.org/fur/274060101.html

It has nicotine stains all over it and pretty much needs to be refinished. It's not cracked or has any nicks and scratches in it. How time consuming is this. How much money in products would it run about to do this entire set.

A. You would do very well to purchase this set in my opinion. I think the wood is mahogany. I has a stain to enhance and even the color of the wood. The bulk of the cost would be labor, so if you are willing to do the sanding, stripping, etc. you would come out way ahead. I would sand down the finish where I could, and maybe use a commerical stripper to clean up the molding or areas difficult to get to with a sander. you can also use sandpaper affixed to sponge, or sandpaper wrapped around dowel to get into the curved areas.
Depending on the cost of sand paper and associated stuff, spongesanders, etc - It would be very little cost. And, I wouldn't use stain after sanding it. I would simply add a sealer, something like polyurethane, to protect the wood.

All in all I don't think one would spend more than $25 to complete the project.

Is it worth it to hire professional movers for a small move or to do it yourself?

Q. My husband and I are moving from our duplex (much like the size of a large apartment) to a house in the immediate local area. We have the basics: living room set, dinning table, bedroom set (1), washer and dryer, and other small furniture peices (computer desk, etc). Is it worth it to hire professional movers or to do it ourselves. And what would be the typical cost for a small move?

A. Depends on how the professional moveers charge you - either by the hour or by the weight of things they are moving and the distance they are moving it.

I've moved twice in the past 12 years and did it both ways. With professional movers, you get people who know how to lift and move large items most effectively. They will know how to pack them and how to cushion them to prevent them from being damaged during the move - and have those items on their trucks. If you do it yourself, you will have to buy these items.

Movers that are paid by the hour will give you all manner of excuses for not being in a rush. In my first move, I was going across town into the boondocks from a downtown house. It was mostly interstate driving and they followed me. Never saw a truck go so slow in all my life! I kept trying to get them to at least do the speed limit of 55 and they kept falling back. They wouldn't go faster than 40 the whole way and then they would brake at every traffic light even while it was green. They gave me some sorry excuse that they had trouble with their brakes and wanted to be sure they could stop if the light changed - to avoid jostling my furniture.

Professional movers have some of the sorriest rules I have ever heard of. They wouldn't take a folding bed because it wasn't in a box. They wouldn't take my bikes because they weren't in a box. They wouldn't take a mattress because it wasn't in a box. They wouldn't take a western saddle becuase it wasn't in a box. You get the picture. And when I suggested they load up my dog house - you got it - had to be in a box.

The advantage of hiring professional movers is that it will save you from personal injury such as a back strain. It's common when people try to move furniture when they really aren't experienced with that kind of activity. But if they lose something or neglect to get all your things off the truck, you will play heck trying to get them to admit they made a mistake - much less recover your missing item.

The first time I moved, I wanted the professional movers to take the things that were too awkward for me to lift or put in my car - like my dog house, bikes and folding bed. We've already been down that road.

I wanted to save money. I knew how long it took to get from point A to point B. I hadn't counted on the moving company hiring slowest drivers in the galaxy.

If the movers take your stuff, they will call for aid and move all your things into a second truck to get your things to the destination, no matter what. If you are moving yourself and have a breakdown, you are on your own. Do you really want to leave all your possessions in the back of a truck while it is in the repair shop?

If you don't own a pickup truck but have a friend offering you the use of theirs, don't do it. Go to U-Haul or Ryder and rent one. What your friend isn't considering is that heavy and large furntiure can dent the bed or the side of the truck if it the item is even remotely off balance in the truck. The legs of furniture can scrape the paint right off the truck bed. And even though you might think that a truck is a truck, this is not the case. Do you really know what your furniture weighs and what the truck is capable of carrying - safely? Trust me on this - rent a truck designed to move furniture and household items.

On my second move - I went three states away. Professional movers were a necessary evil. No matter what the estimate was, be sure and have MORE on hand because they will always gouge you and then try to make some sorry excuse as to why it cost more than the estimate. And don't try to pay the extra with a traveler's check. You wouldn't believe how many movers have never heard of them and don't know what they are - much less accept them. I insisted they were all I had.

There is no typical cost for any move. It all depends on who you hire to do it and how they charge you. Some have a flat hourly rate while others have a flat rate for the estimated weight of the items you have - while others will take the truck to weigh station to get written documentation of the weight of the truck with all your things in it.

If you can get a local mover who never goes out of the state, go with that company. They want to be home for dinner and they will work faster than a national mover.

Here is the Frommer's Review of the UBC Accomodations:

"The University of British Columbia is in a pretty, forested setting on the tip of Point Grey -- a convenient location if you plan to spend a lot of time in Kitsilano or at the university itself. If you don't have a car, it's a half-hour bus ride from downtown. Although these are student dorms most of the year, rooms are usually available. The rooms are very nice, but don't expect luxury. The 17-story Walter Gage Residence offers new and comfortable accommodations; many are located on the upper floors with sweeping views of the city and ocean. One- and six-bedroom suites here come equipped with private bathrooms, kitchenettes, TVs, and phones. Each studio suite has a twin bed; each one-bedroom suite features a queen bed; the six-bedroom Tower suites -- a particularly good deal for families -- feature one double bed and five twin beds. Located next door, the year-round Gage Court suites have two twin beds in one bedroom and a queen-size Murphy bed in the sitting room.

Facilities:
(Nearby and on campus): Restaurant; cafeteria; pub; Olympic-size swimming pool; museums; public golf course; tennis courts; weight room; sauna for C$5 (US$3.75) per person; video arcade; laundry; all rooms nonsmoking"

I also did an Obbitz search from May 18-20 for hotels (because I did not know which weekend in May that you would be there). Here are the results of the search which you can arrange according to location, best value, lowest price, etc. Most of the cheaper end hotels still ranged from $60-$90 a night. http://www.orbitz.com/App/shared/pagedef/results/hotel.jsp?z=2f3b&r=15c&z=2f3d&r=15e&lastPage=interstitial

Have a good trip.

what feng shui element is most ideal for a bedroom?

Q. I have my eyes set on a medium green (more yellow than blue), but im not sure if the wood element is the way to go. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Also, does anyone know what to put in th tao (center) of you bedroom? im stumped there too.

A. Well, I was going to say a plant of some kind. And if you go with a green room, you are definately right in more yellow than blue. I lived in a house once that had 3 bedrooms. One was dark green, one light blue, and the other was accidentally a mint green. None were good, but the mint was the worst. I've also lived in a burgundy color bedroom or blood red, and it was great!!! Plants look good against that color too.

But I would definately take into consideration how much light comes into the room and when it comes in. If not much comes in the morning, you might want to go with a much yellower green, just something light, to make the room lighter when you wake up.

Where to buy inexpensive good furniture.....?

Q. I am moving in a couple of months with a roommate to louisiana
He is saving up for the trip and security(3months rent)
And I was going to buy the furniture(bedroom set, sofa, tv stand, kitchen table & chairs and maybe a living room table)
I am probably going to save up around 4,000 to 5,000 and was planning on getting the furniture from bob's discount store. I have a mattress from them already. But now I am reading reviews and only a few people are happy with their products.

All of the furniture from them comes out to bout 4,000 but I don't want to spend it... if its going to break within a couple of months especially there is no bob's discount store in louisiana so i would have to probably throw it away... anyone know if i should still get it or know of another store where i can spend that kind of money for good furniture

A. Get on Craigslist for that area. I have bought good used furniture from this site and you can even barter the price plus no sales tax.
http://www.craigslist.org/about/sites
Don't buy furniture until you get there. No sense in moving it. Since you already have a mattress you have a place to sleep until you find furniture in Louisiana.

Advice about purchasing a house?

Q. Currently renting a house that I am finding has numerous problems. The furnace has not worked right since i got there. The bathroom, kitchen and basement need to be remodeled. Bedrooms need to be repanelled in a fyear or two.
The owner wants 199k for the house, I have set price at 156k without an appraisal. just found out that they bought the house for 87k in '99. Should I get the appraisal and fight it with that?

A. Start by looking at comps in the area (similar houses with similar attributes, or different houses and what they have/don't have that would make them worth more or less).

A good site for looking at houses for sale is realtor.com.

An appraisal will be about $250 - $350. It is required prior to purchase and, if the appraisal comes in at less than $199K, they won't lend you enough to buy the house. In that case, I would pass.

Also, if you do proceed with the purchase, make one contingency (if it doesn't happen to your satisfaction, the deal is off) that the purchase is pending an inspection by a professional home inspection company and some time period (like 10 days) for you to review the inspection report, and either accept or reject discrepancies. You will have to pay for this (also about $250 to $350). Also, stipulate that you get all of your good-faith down payment (usually a coupla-few thousand $$$) if either of these contingencies are not met.

And, whatever you do, get a real estate agent to represent you. And, don't use the seller's agent. This creates a conflict of interest for any disputes between you and the seller.

Q. The Bobs Jamestown bedroom set (http://www.mybobs.com/Jamestown.aspx) is apparently made from Indonesian Mahogany. I have read in a couple websites that illegal logging is a growing problem in Indonesia. Does buying furniture like this contribute to the problem?

A. Simply put, yes. It doesn't matter if it is legally imported or not, this trade makes a market for the illegally imported items.

Can a soft side water bed fit convential bedroom furniture?

Q. I have a Eastern King soft sided waterbed. I have the 9 leg metal frame. I am looking to purchase a new bedroom set from Rooms 2 Go or some place like that. Can I purchase a bed with the wooden rails to attach to the metal frame. I know that the weight of the bed will not allow me to use the wooden rails from the new bed.

A. You can make the rails work.... you just need to make sure you have center support legs on the rails.... most good wood bed will come with slats and 1-3 center support legs.... You just need to add more so that you have about 9 center support legs....you can use wood or even bricks....

Where is the manufacturers label located on bedroom furniture?

Q. I have a mid-century bedroom set and I'm curious to know who the manufacturer was.

A. On furniture, unless it's upholstered furniture, there isn't a label per say. Usually, a furniture manufacturer will stamp or burn their label on the underside of tables, on the backing of armoires and dressers, etc.

What is a reasonable price for a used bedroom set?

Q. My husband and I have an old oak bedroom set, still in pretty good condition, that we are wanting to sell in our neighborhood garage sale. It would be a dresser with a large mirror, a tall dresser (has some slight damage on the top in the back, it is difficult to see, the damage is above eye level) a night stand and a queen size bed frame. We have different ideas about what is a good price to ask for it. Any thoughts?

A. If it were perfect and rather new, I'd say about 40% of the original price. Since, it's not perfect, and I don't know the quality or brand name, how about 20% of the original price - cash, no delivery.

Where are some places to get furniture for good price and good quality?

Q. I need a whole bedroom set with a full-size bed for under $1000. But I might not need all the pieces. Maybe just the bed, a beside table, and a drawer. Anyway, I would like the furniture to last a long time. I considered Ikea, but I heard their furniture doesn't last very long.

A. try local consignment or thrift shops for older used furniture, it was made better back then or go for a bed with a metal headboard and antique dressers and night stand, the pieces don't have to match and thats the in thing right now, its also cool to hunt for them,,

What % of Foreclosures sell at Trustee Sales?

Q. My house is set to sell at a Trustee Sale on July 2nd in Nevada . I notice as I look at Foreclosure sites that some homes are Bank owned & some are listed with Realtors.
Do houses generally sell at Trustee Sales??

Does anyoneknow how long I have to vacate after a trustee sale in Nevada?

Any insight on this would be great!

A. In the present market in Clark County, NV. You should not expect a bidding war to purchase the property... The trustee will generally bid the amount of indebtedness which will include the debt, past due interest and principle and attorney fees and costs.

As far a vacating your property, you need not leave until the new owner completes an unlawful detainer....

Now for some "relatively" good news.... Some new owners will allow you to lease the property (Not many... but a few....) More will offer you a cash bonus payable after you physically and voluntarily vacate.

One friend in Green Valley got a $5,000 move out bonus from a luxury home. Another with a 1 Bedroom condo got $1,500. It depends upon the new buyer.

Good Luck!

How do you get rid of gnats? They are invading my kitchen, my bathroom and now my bedrooms. What is the prob?

Q.

A. trace them to the root-they have a short life span
seems you mentioned kitchen-look around for where they are flying from or too-watch for a minute or two, look for anything wet outward or within (fruit or veggis, or grains)(keep them in the fridge or closed container especially pieces of fruit) look -in the outer lining of your trash
and under your fridge in any crevices, in the cabinets (onions potatoes) in your sink drain-remove the source of the problem use a 10% bleach solution if its in the drain or crevices then paper towel it dry.

and to get rid of the gnats of our heart="In marriage the bed is undefiled, but all others shall be judged." Hebrews 13 the same chapter that tells us once we let Jesus into our heart "I will never leave thee nor forsake thee."
on faith=our best - good grooming hair to toes, with nice clothing kept.
to think our best - read the bible and get directions-especially the book of proverbs-i read 3 verses of it a day for 3 days, and then 3 new ones-greatest book of wisdom in the greatest book of smartness-the bible

yet to get the connection we must apply the answer from within-This helped me as born a Jew to realize =when we admit we need something more we are ready to consider the one that gave it all for us, to help us.

As promised "Unto us a child is born a son is given, and he will be the mighty God, the wonderful counselor, and the prince of peace." Isaish 9:6

He said "I go to the cross for the joy set before me, that you might believe." Gospel words of Jesus
"As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten, repent quickly therefore (even of one lie) and turn to me. Behold I stand at your heart door and knock, if you hear my word and open the door I will come in and be your friend." Revelation 3:19&20

So I prayed and had this need fulfilled in my life ="Jesus I am sorry for my sins, thanks for dying for me and promising to come into my heart to help me, please do and be my friend, amen."

A new wonderful life began for me-and is offered to each person.

May you have a great day, I am praying for you and each concerned, David

What is the difference between cheap and expensive drums?

Q. I'm a beginner looking at drum sets and i'd probably rather buy a cheap one, but I don't know what the difference would be, or how big?
Which would you suggest for a beginner?

A. The others all have valid points...here are my 2-cents worth:

1. What is your budget like?
You can spend as little as $299.00USD or up to $700.00 for a beginner kit. Try the two sites below for good info:
http://www.cheapism.com/cheap-drum-sets
http://www.drumjunction.com/cheap_drum_sets.html

2. What kind/style of music do you like?
If you prefer rock, country, hip-hop, reggae, etc., the size of the kit and size of the individual drums & cymbals will reflect in the music. Try the above mentioned sites for various setups by the various manufacturers.

3. Where will you practice? Bedroom? Garage? Apartment?
If you live in a house, your bedroom or garage might be okay. An apartment is a different story. Apartment neighbors usually don't appreciate a drummer practicing his craft at certain hours of the day and/or night. You might want to look into an electronic drum kit. Try these sites:
http://www.ionaudio.com/prosessiondrums
http://www.musicradar.com/tuition/drums/electronic-drum-kits-6-best-beginner-sets-in-the-world-today-177956

4. Are you willing to start with a modest kit, then add on to it?
You can start with any kit and add onto it as you progress and/or have more money to spend. As someone pointed out earlier, a good basic kit will have a bass drum, bass drum pedal, snare drum & stand, 1 or 2 toms & mounts toms, a floor tom, a pair of hi-hat cymbals & stand, a ride cymbal & stand, a crash cymbal & stand, a stool/throne, a pair of drumsticks.

Remember, cheap and/or expensive doesn't always mean crappy! Ebay is a great source to get more info and to compare prices. Also try local music stores, check your local craigslist, ask other drummers if they have stuff they want to get rid of.

Hope this helps, Best of Luck!

How do you set up your house? Any tips? Where and how to find the perfect place for your couches, beds, etc?

Q. Any ideas that will help set up a house? How should couches or T.V be put into your living room to get you the most out of them? Is there any website that will make a plan for me really cheap? A website where i can post a map of my house and they will do everything for me? That would be a great help!

Thanks!

A. First, consider the function of the room. Do you want to eat in there? Sleep? Study? Read? Play piano? Play games? Sew? Think of what you will need for that activity, and don't forget good lighting. If a room has several purposes, you might want to create several areas in the room.

Someone to do it all for you is called an interior decorator. They are expensive, but if you can afford one, get referrals.

If you are like most of us, you need to do it for yourself. Besides, who knows your taste better than you? The easiest and most foolproof way I have found to decorate is to find a picture I love, then copy it. You can't make an exact copy ever, and you probably already have some furniture or things you love, so the room will still end up being uniquely yours. But you won't paint, hate it, repaint, hate it, and so on. You can see your color scheme and ideas before you start.

I built a lot of inspiration threads here:
http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/decor/nph-ind.cgi?type=gal
There is a search engine window at the bottom of the page. Set the window for that board only. Type in "bedrooms" or "bathrooms" or "hallways" or "kitchens" or "ceilings" or "stairs" or whatever you want to decorate. There are also paint color threads there you may find helpful.

Save your favorite pictures to your computer. When you see a pic you like, try to imagine yourself in that room and see how it makes you feel -- too hot in summer? Too cold in winter? Too nervous? Too relaxed? Cheered up when you were sad?

Have fun decorating your house. It really is a lot of fun. If you want things that are not expensive, keep your eye on your local Craigslist... you'll find some great bargains, save things from the landfill, and help out people in your own area at the same time. Enjoy!

Is it normal to have bad allergies 2 years after moving?

Q. I am constantly tired and sneezing. My eyes are puffy and sleepy. I moved from Las Vegas, NV to Southeast Ohio and ever since I have been exhausted. I know your body has to get used to different climates but seriously, it's been 2 years now. I feel like I'm a walking zombie. Is this normal for here?
I don't have insurance, cant afford it. I am not eligible for medicaid by $20. I have never had allergies until I moved here.

A. I'm sorry to hear about your situation. I have developed severe multiple allergies, and it can sure make life difficult.

If you developed these symptoms some time after moving, that's not really surprising. Your immune system may not react when you are first exposed to an allergen, but after multiple exposures, may begin to react.

In a different part of the country, you may be exposed to pollen from different plants, or it may be mold or dust mite allergies in a more humid area. Can you tell any pattern to when you have symptoms, or when they are worst? Pollen allergies will probably vary with the time of year. Mold and dust allergies can be year-round since the sources are indoors.

If it's a constant problem, my first guess would be the mold/dust possibility. Does your house have any leaks/water drips issues or has it in the past? Does it smell musty? I use a dehumidifier, and my allergist said to keep the humidity at around 40%. 50% or over, and you will have mold.

The thing you can do that would help most is to make your bedroom allergen-free, since that is where a person spends a lot of time. Get a allergy preventing pillow cover, since your face and nose are in close proximity to your pillow for hours. Wash your bedding weekly in hot water. If you can, exclude carpeting, drapes, upholstered furniture, stuffed toys, etc. from the bedroom. Keep clutter of any kind to a minimum. Dust often with a moistened micro-fiber cloth or paper towel so that you pick up dust rather than stirring it up into the air.

Then gradually work on the rest of your house, to eliminate the same allergy sources. My allergist also had me remove all wall-paper, as molds can live behind it.

Using a sinus rinse daily can be a big help too.

If your allergies are seasonal, then it's more likely to be pollen, and that's a whole different set of things you can do.

Good luck with getting this under control!

Help with LCD selection please?

Q. Ok this is for a spare tv for the bedroom.
Sony BRAVIA 32" KDL32L5000 720p LCD HDTV-------$499
Vizio 32" VO320E 720p LCD HDTV-------------------------- $399
Panasonic VIERA 32" TCL32X1 720p LCD HDTV w/iPod dock---$499
Samsung 32" LN32B460 720p LCD HDTV--------------------$550

A. Consumer Report (august 2009) issue rated the Panasonic (TC-L37S1) as their top choice in 32" LCD's.
The Sony KDL-32S5100 was their #3 choice.
Samsung makes great sets too. I have one of their 52" LCD's and I really like it, although for a spare bedroom and at that relatively small screen size, I'd go with the least expensive high quality TV, which would be the Panasonic (considering you get an iPod dock with it).
Vizio is not in the same league as the others in your group, which of course is reflected in the lower price.

How much will I be able to afford after graduation?

Q. Hi, I will be graduating from pharmacy school in a couple of years and want to know what I can realistically afford. I will most likely be making at least 100k out of the gate and going up from there. If I wanted to buy a dodge charge, one of the cheaper 25-27k ish models, could I afford it? Or would it be cutting it close? What if I wanted a simple 2 or 3 bedroom house a few years after graduation? From some online calculations it will be 2,800ish for all expenses including the 5 year lease leaving about 40k in annual savings. Is that very much or will I be wasting money right away? I would plan on having the car until it no longer works really. And student loans won't be a large issue. It's a cheap though quality education at rutgers pharmacy school and my parents have taken most of the load off.

No disrespect to Canada, I was born there too, but I think things are little different here in US or your figures are a little low. Still mostly correct and insightful though, thank you

A. 100k out of the gate is NOT realistic. In my area (Canada), average pay is $40/hour, at a full-time job of 40 hours a week, that means you're making $1600 a week, or $6400 a month (equals 78k a year).

10% of your income goes to long-term (retirement) savings: $640 a month.

15% of your income goes to debt repayment/emergency fund: $960 a month that goes to credit/loan payments, but you really need to put this money towards a savings account that serves as your emergency fund; what if you lose your job? The goal is to put aside enough to get you through 6 months to give yourself time to find a new job. Put it aside until you have at least $38 400.
EDIT: Student loans are a big deal, they need to go away. Put more of your money here towards clearing the debt first, and once it's gone, go nuts on the savings.

35% of your income goes to housing (rent, mortgage, bills, utilities, car payments; fixed costs). You can afford UNDER $2240 a month. You need to have a size-able down payment though, and the less debt you have, the more of a mortgage the bank would grant you. It's going to take longer than you think, but nice try.

15% of your income goes to transportation (gas, insurance, repairs, bus). You have $960 a month to put towards this stuff. It doesn't sound like you have a car now, so if you set this aside to purely savings, in 2 years (24 months), you will have $23 040 saved up. You can definitely afford that car if you have that money saved up for a down-payment. Again, the more down-payment you have, the better interest rates you can get for your mortgage, and the less debt you have, the more of a loan they're willing to give you.

25% of your income goes to life (food, entertainment, clothing, gifts, travel, medical, wants, phone, internet, cable, other). You have $1600 a month, or $400 a week for all of this stuff, which is easy. It's all about putting a little money aside each week for everything, so that when the random/big expenses come up, you're not struggling to make ends meet.

I'm pretty sure that this is not your current income, but once it is, you can start putting things into action. Aim to have your dream items in 4 years (Couldn't possibly tell you if you can do it in 2, we have no idea how much money you make now).

Once you have your job, in two years you will have $23 040 saved up for a car, $23 040 put towards student loans/emergency fund, $53 760 towards a down-payment on a house, and $15 360 saved up towards retirement (although invested correctly, it will grow to be a lot more than that).

How do I sand my Ethan Allen furniture to a natural finish?

Q. I have a nice Ethan Allen bedroom set from the 1970s that it is in excellent condition (structurally), but the finish on the furniture is scuffed up, dull, and just way too dark for my taste. What is the easiest process for sanding this down to a natural finish?

A. I use Strypeeze to remove majority of finish. It removes every kind of finish I ever used it own. Then I sand the small spots it didn't quite get. Most manufactured furniture uses very thin veneer wood on top of secondary wood so a sanding mistake can severely damage a piece of furniture. I use a random orbit sander and fine grain paper. Takes most of the work out of it too.

How much are these beds only without the bed set just the bed alone.?

Q. My dad bought me this ugly brown wood Boy bed and im trying to change his mind into buying this black one:

http://www.ashleyfurniturehomestore.com/catalog/product.aspx?group=KidsFurniture&category=KidsKidsBedroomSets&id=B119SET1&spi=0&ref=search-t

& this is the one he bought me a brown plain boy bed:

http://www.ashleyfurniturehomestore.com/catalog/product.aspx?group=&category=&id=B191SET1&ref=product-t

Can you please tell me how much the bed cost on a TWIN size bed please and which on cost the most/ im a girl

A. Don't buy it! Run the other way. Ashley furniture is the WORST furniture on the market. It will fall apart in no time at all. There is NO real wood. It is either particle board with a veneer about the thickness of a sheet of paper or it is compress card board. Look for solid wood. The Chinese are excellent at camouflaging particle board to look like solid wood. BUYER BE WARE!

The retail on that bedroom is probably about $799. to $999. I can tell by the picture it is junk.

Sorry, it looks pretty buy don't be fooled.
NEVER BUY ASHLEY FURNITURE!
