Separate Bedrooms for the Twins?

Allison Le

I'm having twins soon, a boy and a girl, and I'm definitely going to give them separate bedrooms.
Any ideas on color schemes and decorations?

Answer
I also had twins , 22 years ago.
For the first 2-3 years it is fine to keep them in the same room .

Here are some suggestions :http://jpmdesign.blogspot.com/2011/05/gender-nuetral-nurseries.html

whoa this looks so much like my aunts room, shes really into pink and black, i guess since you are more into purple and green you can to the same thing but with purple and green instead of pink and black. like in the picture you could paint one wall green and the other purple. you could buy zebra sheets like these
http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/bedandbath/brandsforbednew/thebigone/sheets/PRD~c22613/The+Big+One+Zebra+Sheet+Set.jsp

and get somenice pillows to put on your bed like these

for the shelves you could buy something easy and simple and paint them white or purple or whatever color you like. some shelves i found

you could find a nice picture to put on the wall too, if you have one of those world markets or cost plus, maybe a crafts store they have some really nice big artwork picutes like the zebra one. any way i hope i helped some and gave a few ideas, good luck :)

And best of all, says the Queensland Tourist Board, there is absolutely no catch.

The authorities are looking for a caretaker for Hamilton Island, which has year-round sunshine, sandy beaches, warm lagoons and sea life galore.

Free return flights, transfers, expenses and transport are included in the deal, not to mention pay of just under £6,000 a month.

The lucky person who lands the job will also stay in a three-bedroom villa, set on a shady hill overlooking the sea.

Their 'chores' will include feeding turtles, watching whales and collecting the post.

He or she will not need qualifications. although they will have to be a good swimmer, and enjoy snorkelling and scuba diving.

Computer skills would be handy too - a weekly online blog, photo diary and video updates are also part of the job description.

The boss of Queensland Tourism, Anthony Hayes, says the idea behind the offer is to promote the island globally.

"This campaign aims to highlight the islands of the Great Barrier Reef and showcase Australia's unique island experience to the global market," he said.

The last date for applying is February 22. Eleven potential candidates will be picked and flown out for interviews, with the final choice being made on May 6.

Helen McNaught from Tourism Queensland told Sky News online there has been no shortage of interest.

"The successful applicant will need to be keen on the water and all water sports activities... and, most important of all, they'll need a zest for life." she said.

Is this a good idea for my next book I am writing?

Katherine

Hello! My name is Kat and I love writing. I have published two books but with smaller publishing companies. I haven't written a book in four years and I'm trying to start writing again. This is my idea for my next book, it doesn't have a name yet. But I'd love your comments and suggestions. Would you read it? What do you think about it?

18-year-old Bliss Hamilton has the perfect life, the perfect family, the perfect friends, and the perfect boyfriend, Joshua Downs. Joshua is the star quarterback on the football team and a huge track star in their state. Her senior year at Cristendale High in New York starts off great until one day a teacher comes into her english class and whispers to her teacher. The teacher looks panicked and they are told to hide under their desks. Suddenly someone comes running down the hallway yelling that a plane has his the World Trade Center. The students start to panic when they see the second plane hit the tower on television. After 9/11, Joshua decides to enlist in the military along with other guys in her school. Joshua is deployed to Afghanistan to fight in the war and Bliss is terrified. Bliss watches on tv each night of the news reporters telling of the casualties, and she is scared Joshua will be killed. While Joshua is gone, Bliss meets Kendal, a more artsy boy in her school who approaches her when she is crying at school outside. Kendal tries to comfort her and tells her it is going to be okay. Joshua sends Bliss letters and pictures from the battlefield. Kendal and Bliss talk about their fears of another attack and that their country is in turmoil. The two begin to fall for eachother while Joshua is overseas. Soon Bliss does not receive any more letters from Joshua, Kendal suggests it is because he is busy and he will surely send one when he gets the time. Bliss becomes overwhelmed and emotional and turns to Kendal for comfort one night in her bedroom. They begin to kiss and Bliss loses her virginity to Kendal. Bliss tells her best friend Lenay Hatmaker that she had sex with Kendal, and soon word gets around school that she slept with Kendal while Joshua was away. People make fun of her and Bliss feels that she should tell Joshua. She sends him a letter and says it will never happen again. A few days later federal agents show up to her door and tell her that Joshua was killed by a roadside bomb three weeks earlier. Bliss is devastated and the whole school mourns his loss. Bliss feels horrible that she gave herself to Kendal while not knowing Joshua was dead. Kendal grabs her hands and pushes her up against a wall and tells her there was nothing she could have done, and there was no way she could have known. He tells her that he was going to die, thatâs how it was supposed to happen and that nonetheless he loves her and they have something between them. Bliss realizes that she does have feelings for Kendal and Joshua would want her to be happy and move on. A few weeks later Bliss gets a letter that had gotten mixed up in processing, it is from Joshua sent three days before he died. He tells her in the letter how happy he is fighting for his country and how he has helped many children in the villages and one little girl made him a bracelet with beads that says âHOPEâ. He explains how beautiful the sunset is in Afghanistan and how each time it sets he thinks of her because it makes him happy and it makes him feel more than happiness, it makes him feel bliss.

Answer
I have no idea how your furniture is arranged or even what pieces you have.
You have B&W bedding and like the color pink.
Keep many things a white white with pink accents. You can use both hot pink and soft pink.
Get a few great lamps. This overhead light is horrible.
Think about natural accents such as a woven headboard and baskets used for storage around the room.
Use light pink sheets with your bedding and then add a hot pink throw.
Use a very light blue on your walls .You can do one wall a darker blue if you like. make it the wall with the bed on it.Benjamin Moore "Lake Placid ,http://weedecor.com/2009/12/best-blue-nursery-paint/ This is the dark blue:http://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-color/lakeplacid

Bedroom Ideas?

My niece is redoing her room for her birthday. She will be turning 15, she's kind of preppy, but she doesn't really want to do her room that way. She wants to get a new bed, she has a twin size bed at the moment, and she wants a queen size bed, she wants to a couch bed. Her bed faces her desk and she was thinking of puting a tv on her desk. She can't decide room colors, or window colors, or bed colors, or any styling ideas. I'm not so great. Someone is coming to help her decide what to do with her room, a stylist. We need to give her ideas so if anyone has any really cool pictures of some really nice rooms, that would be great. She was hoping to get away from the whole pink thing, unless it's like, light pink mixed with others colors. Blues, greens, light purples, anything that looks really nice. She wanted her room to look like one in a magazine. Maybe add a few new things, like a new nightstand or something. If you know any pictures, or something like that, please post them. Thxs

Answer
A full size bed would be a better choice and would last longer for later moves- Most "first apartment" Bedrooms aren't that big and a Queen size Bed might not fit. Since beds last a long time no point in buying 2. and you can fit a trundle bed under ir and then Have a Futon Chair that can also lay into a bed.

Also having a TV mounted onto the wall would give her more desk space- TV doesn't have to be a flat screen to mount. Soon if not now high school will keep her busy with school work and projects.

White and Black bedroom decorating ideas?

jazmin

Im going to be in grade eight and im moving into a new house. My bedroom will be themed black and white. Is there a color that would be a good accent for my themed ones? What are some decorating ideas, or things i could buy for it?

Answer
Black and white with an accent color is one of the easiest themes to pull off. What I usually suggest is black & white plus your favorite color (two or three shades of the color - maximum). If I were doing this for me, I'd pick teal or turquoise or a royal blue as those are my favorites :) and I'd go with a black & white patterned bedding - just NOT zebra print as I feel it has been done to death in recent years.

Pick black or white for your furniture or go for a dark wood.

Wall color could be a light to medium gray OR a light to medium shade of your third color. If you use gray for the walls, then use your third color for accent pieces like curtains, throws or pillows. If you use a darker shade of paint, then use mainly lighter shades of the same color for your accents with maybe one item the same shade as the paint. If you use a lighter shade of paint, then do the reverse.
Here's a nice turquoise/teal for instance:

or gray:

Target is great for black & white bedding and they also have a great selection of black & white photo posters that are reasonably priced. With a black & white themed bedroom you can use black, white or silver toned frames for your posters/pictures. Depending upon the size you need, you may be able to obtain frames to fit your color scheme at your local dollar stores.

Hope this gives you some ideas to work with and helps you out.

Is there a website I can shop for kid furniture and pay around 800 for total bedroom set for my daughter...if?

thebigB

know of a site...please help me out...thanks

Answer
That's just around what I spent on my daughter's bedroom set (not including mattress) bed... headboard, footboad and panel; five draw chest, 3 drawer dresser with mirror, and 1 night stand (all wipeable and comes with necessary safety screws to attach the furniture to the wall).

All purchased at furniturefind.com (free shipping "on just about everything" right now). I furnished my entire house through them. And since the new management, you can find a full kid bedroom set for under $500.

They have well rounded prices of low, mid, and high. Check it out.

Affordable bedroom furniture?

Jessyca

I need to redecorate my room because I am moving soon. I have a budget of about $800 and I need these pieces of furniture:
tv armoire
vanity and chair
storage headboard (full size)
small loveseat
dresses
***dresser

Answer
Isn't it a shame that we can't go back and edit our original words when asking a question? lol. But we can edit our entire answer.

Anyway, with a budget of 800 it sounds fairly low end. I am assuming you want a set? If so, you might try Kmart, though that might sound cheap. They actually have some fairly good pieces. Walmart even does too.

I've learned that it really makes good sense to buy used furniture, sometimes it possibly could pass for antique......sooner or later!

If they don't have to match exactly, I would go to used furniture stores and mix and match pieces. It would look more interesting that way anyway. My bedroom is like that and it looks good with various pieces, but I did stick to a sort of medium dark wood tone.

Should I move to Miami Beach, Florida or Newport Beach, California?

*~*~*~*

I want oceanfront with 5 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms...the whole deal!

Where should I move and why? Pros/cons please

Where would be a better place to set up an OB/GYN practice?

Which place can I get more for my money?

Salary difference also?

Thanks so much! Tell me anything you can think of.

Answer
California, for sure! Lots of retired women down in Florida, so you'd have better business out in California! A definite con is that California is a RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE place to live, and the "culture" take a bit of getting used to. Beware of earthquakes, floods, mudslides, and wild fires. Hell, I'd take a hurricane over that anyday!

On the show Courtney and Klohe Take Miami, who makes the bedding seen in Klohe's bedroom? I LOVE IT!?

Klohe has a pinkish-purple comforter with matching accent pillows, and I would LOVE to have that set. Does anyone know who makes it?
I really don't care how either of them spell their names. I just want to know who makes the bedding.

Bedroom Set!!!?

lovinmommi

I am moving to my first apartment and i need to know where i can get a really nice queen size bedroom set on a students budget. Thank you

Answer
Ikea, or Crate and Barrell. Both are available online. Be sure and check out the measurements in your apartment first though, to make sure all will accomodate. Also, Pier One online has some beautiful headboards at great prices, along with the bed frames. If you have one great piece, such as a beautiful headboard, you can "hunt" for everything else to accent it, like thrift shops, flea markets, or garage sales. Also, The Company Store online has great down comforters at good prices. Have fun and Good Luck!~

Black is a very "hard" color to mix with sky blue.. The Sky blue and white lends it's self to pastels.. If you use white for the furniture you can dress the room with nice colored curtains and bed spread.

Vintage bedroom ideas?

CBDbaby

I have my bedroom done vintage theme but it just doesn't look right, somethings missing. I have a very tiny bedroom so there ain't a lot of space to work with. But does anyone having any decorating tips? Ideas for objects, colors, anything will help. Thanks!

Answer
Have you tried painting the walls with a vintage color of paint? Something that looks like it's been there for awhile. Or try an old vintage floral wallpaper. Also take into consideration all the furnishings right down to the bed.The bed would have to be vintage looking as well, place an old quilt found at a flea market or auction or your bed. You could also try hanging old black and white photo's on your wall. Remember if you're going for true vintage, don't have carpeting on the floor. The floor would have been wood for that time period. You could add an area rag rug as an accent. Try hanging a vintage wedding gown or clothing as well from a shaker style peg board. Also old metal toys, an old trunk, an old rocker an old spinning wheel or sewing machine. (Yes these too could be added into a bedroom). Make sure the bed is like the old iron ones or even wooden, some vintage beds even had wicker headboards. Try going to a flea market or antique dealer and find some vintage stuff, like camera's old silver plated brush comb & mirror set. Make sure the curtains are sheers or lace and they would have been in an off white. You could also go to a local craft store and pick up some caning and add it to your window to make your window either look like stained glass or to give your window glass a treatment to look like the diamond patterns you see on cottage window. Keep wood work : trims around doors and windows and mop boards, crown moldings, and chair rails all in a dark wood tone color. Wood was considered something of beauty back then so, no one would have painted overtop of these things with white paint. Try to tie in your trimmings with the floor color. Cheval mirrors were popular back then as well and vanity dressers with the vanity bench. (not just any vanity though, you would have to have a wood one usually in a dark wood tone, best bet to go to an antique dealers for this). You could also have as a prop an antique doll carriage with a Bebe Jumeau Doll in it. (Google images on Bebe Jumeau Dolls).

Answer
You need to look on Craigs list and the local buy/sell ads for the furniture.

The bedding you want is a bedspread set not comforter. These you need to start scouring the used clothing stores for. Get to know the people in the thrift and consignment shops..Leave your number and they may even call you when a set comes in if they don't have one..White sets can be dyed the color you want by the way. You can even find a small quilt and have a seamstress add the ruffling..It's not expensive to do. Or get a chenille bed spread with a frilly skirt.

Bedroom set off Craigslist?

Savannah

So, they are asking $700 for everything including the mattress. How much should I offer them for everything *but* the mattress? 500? 600? How much would the Matress and boxspring be worth? It's a Cal King set.

Answer
If it's a King Size bed, mattresses are pretty pricey for it. So, they probably want to sell it all together. Just email them first, and ask if they would be willing to sell the set without the mattress, before you name a price. But, yes I'm thinking 500 - 600.

how would you set up a bedroom to look romantic with no furniture but a king size bed?

I have come up with a few decorating, organizing, and refurbishing tips and ideas.

If you are looking for more storage, check out PB Teen. If it is too expensive, Walmart and Target are definitely worth checking out too. Here are some things I found for storage...

This one is from PBTeen, and comes in darker woods if you don't want white or if it is too feminine-http://www.pbteen.com/products/p1588/index.cfm?pkey=cbookcases%2Dshelves
PBTeen carries a lot more storage units, so check them out at PBTeen.com

This one is from Target. It probably matches your cubbies-
http://www.target.com/3-Open-Shelves-White/dp/B0002I6FGI/qid=1236718985/ref=br_1_4/175-8965122-4682931?ie=UTF8&node=13814321&frombrowse=1&pricerange=&index=tgt-mf-mv&field-browse=13814321&rank=pmrank&rh=&page=6

Decorations are a big key in decorating. If you are planning to keep your wall color, here are some that would match...

This is a photo frame that you can hang on your wall and put in various pictures. You can get it in various colors. White would be more modern-http://www.pbteen.com/products/p2490/index.cfm?pkey=cphoto%2Dframes%2Dmirrors

Definitely try wire letters. They are very modern and look great!-
http://www.pbteen.com/products/p2678/index.cfm?pkey=cwall%2Daccessories%2Ddecoration

I also found you a "big comfy chair"-http://www.pbteen.com/products/p649/index.cfm?pkey=clounge%2Dseating
or you can try-
http://www.pbteen.com/products/p3815/index.cfm?pkey=clounge%2Dseating

Now these are all things you need to buy. If you are looking for do it yourself projects and ideas that are cheap and easy, here are some:

Make a collage-
Print out fun pictures off the internet. Cut out pictures from magazines. Use Jonas Brothers pictures. Pictures of your friends. Etc. Cut them all out in different shapes and sizes and paste them to a poster board or tac them to a bulletin board. Make various ones and hang them all around your room! You can even make a whole one dedicated to the Jonas Brothers that only has pictures of the Jonas Brothers.

Repaint your current bedroom set-
First get the okay from your parents. Since a whole other bedroom set would be to expensive, try repainting your furniture a crisp black (very modern) or white (more traditional). Of course you will need help from your parents, but it will totally five a huge lift and new feel to your room. Also as a suggestion, if you paint the furniture black, try this comforter:http://www.pbteen.com/products/p3815/index.cfm?pkey=clounge%2Dseating

Overall, just make your bedroom creative in a way that exresses your personality. Good luck! Hope I helped :)

Is white bedroom furniture a good idea?

Randi

I'm a college student and I want to switch up my room to make it more suitable for work while also providing a relaxed atmosphere. I wanted to buy a white bedroom set and a white desk, but wanted to know if white is a good idea for a high traffic room? I babysit from time to time and when I stay on campus or when family is in town, my room is used as the guest room. I'd like to hear from anyone who has/had white furniture in their bedroom. Will my white, wood furniture go to waste? Should I buy black?

Answer
I have white furniture. I've had it for about 13 years. I like it. Mine is the Pleasant Isle collection from Broyhill, and it lends itself very well to the cottage-y, country, shabby chic look. The only problem I've had is the surface seems to be very delicate and shows up blemishes and flaws. Of course, since the furniture is 13 years old, that's to be expected. It will not remain in pristine condition forever. It still looks good and has held up well. Black or dark furniture would show up scratches and mars, but those can be doctored with special pencils or Old English Scratch Cover. I don't know of anything that will work on white.

It's up to you. I might double think it if it's possible that kids could abuse the furniture. You know what they say...."If you give a kid a crayon...." LOL.

My room has been used as a guest room for adults, but I've had no problems. I seem to be the one who is responsible for dings and stains.

While white is nice, a darker wood may be more practical in the long run. I really have enjoyed my white set, but a darker color may be more versatile as far as working with wall color, carpet, etc.

Look around, and buy what you like the best. There will be styles and features that appeal to you, no matter the wood finish.

How can i set up my room? Would like an interior designers help.?

Sara

I want my room to be set up in the way that I will walk in a pretty much be very happy with it.
I don't have pictures but I can describe the room. my room is appox. 10x11ft
I have a window that it maybe 4ftx4ft that is facing the side where the sun comes up(east). the opposite wall is where my closet is it takes up the whole wall besides where my door is on that same wall. Then I have walls north and south(duh). I have giraffe curtains that I don't plan on changing.
this is the bed I am getting. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S79893568/
I also have 5 strips on the north and south walls that are maybe 5" each they run vertical. I have no problem painting them away if I need to. My walls are white. ummmm I believe that's all the detail I can give with out a picture. Oh! I have a curtain for my closest but I can put back in the doors if that what your vision is.

One more question..SOO sorry that it is a lot. What type of bed spread should I get? If you have a picture of it post the link with you answer. I only have about 30$ for the bed spread.. Thank you so much for you help.

Answer
Hi - First of all you don't say if you are painting your walls? Also you do not mention what other furniture you have in your room and what colour that is? Do you have carpet - if you do what colour is that or do you have floorboards etc? The bed you are getting you do not say what colour this is as Ikea do this bed in different colours i.e. white, black/brown, medium oak and white stained oak.

Are you wanting new bedding or does your bedding match your giraffe curtains - or is it just a bedspread you are after - I suppose the colour of the colour of your curtains are black/brown or brown/beige?

As regards your closet I would definitely advise you to put your doors back on because personally I think the doors look a lot nicer and neater with them on instead of curtains - these I think tend to look a little messy.

One thing I would say regards your bedspread - would you want something on the 'theme' of giraffes? This could look quite nice!

So, I shall give you some ideas for going for this theme:

If your curtains are in browns/beige - I would go for one feature wall i.e. behind your bed in a brown colour and any wall space that is left including your window wall etc etc then do a cream/beigy colour.

See these pictures to give you some ideas on this 'theme':

https://www.google.ie/search?q=giraffe+theme+bedroom&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=4lGAUdKmLMmwhAex44DwDQ&ved=0CDMQsAQ&biw=1366&bih=643

You could perhaps a wall 'decal' above your bed of a giraffe?

These are some stickers: http://www.zazzle.co.uk/giraffe+stickers

and some decals - this is a nice idea for one of your blank walls:

http://www.cafepress.com/+giraffe+bumper-stickers

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/90-60cm-Memory-Photo-Tree-Wall-Stickers-Decor-Decals-Art-Sitting-Room/863174389.html

This bedding would look nice with this theme and go well with what I have advised you above - although i had a job to find anything in your price range in America?:

http://www.beddingsuperstore.com/i?store=cat&nomenu=yes&id=16831&Austin-by-HomeMax-Imports---PRE-ORDER-NOW

http://www.beddingsuperstore.com/i?store=cat&nomenu=yes&id=1884&Giraffe-by-Karin-Maki/Kimlor

Can you please come back on with the information above if I have misunderstood exactly what you need i.e. painting of your walls etc. and then I can assist you a lot better in my answer :)

Is there a way to sound proof my bedroom?

Carl Howey

I'm hoping someone else has encountered this problem and could help me. I just got a new guitar amp and it is REALLY loud. The lowest setting is pretty loud. It's a tube amp so it needs volume to sound good. I'm just wondering if there is a something I could put on or over my windows that would make it so less sound would go through. And also if there is something for doors I could do. I stuffed the crack at the bottom with the blanket on my bed and that helped. Just wondering if there is anything better.

Answer
I've built several dozen radio station and recording studios in my day. There have been a few where I had a one million dollar budget to sound proof and equip it. Others...let's just say that management considered sound proofing an afterthought.

Egg cartons will reduce reflections in the room. So will matresses, carpet, and what ever other silly things people put on their walls. But none of this will significantly reduce the amount of sound leaving the room.

Sound is transmitted throught the movement of air. To stop sound tranmission, you have to stop the air from moving. And the door to your room is probably the biggest offender. The space around an average residential interior door is roughly equivalent to a 7" square hole.

And if you can knock on one side of the door and hear it on another (and you will...it's likely a hollow core door), then the door itself is going to act as a re-radiator (or passive speaker cone).

And we haven't even talked about the walls themselves (although that's more of a problem with bass guitar), or air ducts.

You could spend thousands of dollars on attempting to sound proof your room and still get complaints.

So...why not try to reduce the output volume of the amp? Much simpler and less expensive.

I understand about tube amps needing to to pushed a bit to sound good (I've been playing longer than you've likely been alive). So what you want to look at it a power attenuator that goes between the amp output and the speaker.

Early ones were horrible and could damage amps, but the ones out now are nothing like that.

The best one I've heard is the Weber MASS Lite:
https://taweber.powweb.com/weber/masslite.htm

It actually uses a voice coil from a speaker as the load, so your amp reacts like it was connected directly to a cabinet. One of my best playin' buds uses this with his 50 watt Mesa Nomad. The master volume is wound out, but with this thing you can have a conversation standing in front of the amp if you want.

At $140...that's likely your best option.

Good luck.

Greetings from Austin, Tx

Moving to NYC in 9 months?

Q. I made the decision about 2 weeks ago to move to the BIG APPLE!!! I've already started my research into apartments just to get an idea of average prices on 2 bedroom apartments. I've also been researching safe areas of different boroughs to keep my options open, checking out the subway system, and even some safety tips to living in the city. I have two questions that I'm having a hard time finding on the internet:
1.) I have been in the restaurant business for 5 years now with banquet waitress and a la carte training in a moderately formal setting. Obviously Manhattan would be the place to work. What restaurants or banquet halls should I look into? How much would I make per hour or on an average shift a night?
2.) I am already thinking of saving money because I have a few months to get a head start! I have the luxury of living at home with minimal rent and expenses, so saving shouldn't be a problem. Should I open a cd account to maximize my saving?
Thank you for all your answers

Answer
hey there, ok ....so, I am from NYC ....was there for about 18 years .....I've just move to St Louis.
I still love NYC, I left pretty much everything ....food, music, movies, bars, life, culture, central park, 5th ave, music label and bank jobs, greenwich village, Hunter's Point, Fort Tryon Park, DUMBO (google it), PS1, http://www.watersedgenyc.com/, www.porcaous.com, www.tavernonthegreen.com/, off off broadway shows, time warner building, concerts, friends, bars/venues where my fav singers performed, places where all the movies are shots, ....anyway I love NYC...love to give you any inputs ....
google the names ....you will see what I mean. Use those links...couple of my fav resturants.

2 BR will be about $1700+ in Manhattan. If you are single you are better off with a 1 big BR or studio apt, which will be $1100 or so in Manhattan. My gf's sister lives in Manhattan (76th and 3rd), pays about that much for a studio. Manhattan will be very 3x expensive. For long as I have known and lived NYC ....all the people who are in the service industry...they tend to live in Astoria (Queens), Long Island City (Q), Brooklyn, Sunnyside (Q) Washington Hts (near columbia U) ...all those Q places I mentioned....they are pretty much safe neighborhoods ....(if you want to get in to the convo about race/diversity and how it effects the neighborhood...I'd love to give you indepth details....email me jazzydude666@gmail.com)
anyway, where are you living now? why the move to NYC? You are in for an awesome adventure....
Not for me ...though....I moved St Louis earlier this year ...living with my gf, who also lived NYC for three years. She is originally from IL....anyway....would love to help you...so ask away.

Save a lot of $$$, CDs are good idea. you will be using the subway no matter where you are in nyc, therefore, monthly metrocard will be $80. Lunch? Noone have time to eat lunch in nyc....everyone is on the GO!!! ...There you will walk into fast food places....but here in midwest ...wtf ....drive thru culture....anyhow, I can go forever.

Bedroom Theme?

Jennifer B

I can't decide what bedroom theme to get. I really like acting so i'm thinking either Hollywood or like an urban or New york theme. Also if anyone has any tips. Thanx in advance :)

Answer
Well, I don't know what your budget is so I'll just give you some ideas. I've thaught of that look too. Your probably looking for the theatrical look, or a sense of artistic expression to get you inspired or it's just your inspiration.

The nyc look would probably lean toward the loft look, penthouse, or an obscene look of luxury with priceless artwork on the walls, or an antique look with a versatile look in culture and a display of books collected. A minimalist look too. Collections from different periods also. Also a work area to die for!

For Hollywood, I call it bollywood. It could range from anything, and any theme, depending on what your interest are from music, theater, filmography etc. I can't help but think of the andy warhol pictures displayed when it comes to hollywood style. Also, large portraits everywhere of the person living there.

You could try both. The best colors I can think of for you would be red (theatrical), black and white (new york). A suggestion would be to paint all your walls white, and paint the wall behing your bed a red color. Add some black accessories or furniture. You could also try painting your walls a very light grey with the 1 red wall. You could add silver/gold accessories. Or just silver.

Go to a used book store and buy some books with pictures of actors or musicians etc. When you get home decide which ones you like best and frame them or use spray adhesive and apply them to cardboard that fits the picture well (don't let the cardboard show). Appy them to the walls with clear, red, or black thumb tacks. Or use something else to apply to wall. I would go to the dollar store and buy some frames for a dollar, and spray paint them silver, gold, red or black.
OFCOURSE, IF YOU DON'T MIND BEING CRAFTY. I say this because, frames can get expensive, especially poster ones. You could opt for a poster of your favorite artist and frame it, or even a poster size picture of a NYC view. That would be nice. A night one with all those lights is cool.

Get a nice throw rug in red, white or black. For lights, try the modern silver standing ones for both sides of the bed, or track lights over your bed and above the art on the wall!

Paint can really set either look off. I'd also try thinking, maybe, black trim, white walls, and 1 red wall. I'm sure youv'e noticed the red carpet for special hollywood and new york events.

Hope that helped. If you come up with any ideas email me. I'm curious too! or if you have time, let me know what you decide.

I have questions about Overstock.com?

Sean M

I'm leary about purchasing merchandise that I can't actually touch, I want to buy my wife this bedroom set. This is not exact but I thinks it's close to what she wanted. I found it on Overstock for a couple thousand dollars less.
http://cdn.overstock.com/images/products/P11848522.jpg
http://cdn.overstock.com/images/products/P10882255.jpg
Women, please rate these sets for me on a scale of 1-10, 10 being best
I'm not sure I want make such a large purchase over the internet. Have you made similar purchases? Is this a reliable company? Thanks in advance.

Answer
They are both very nice. I prefer the first because I like the straighter lines, but both are excellent.

Overstock is a very reputable company, but make sure you do your homework. The most important thing you can do is read other users' reviews of the product you're looking at. The most common issue I've seen about furniture is that people claim the quality isn't very good - either that the item is made from particle board or some other inferior material, or that it's not well put-together.

I have also seen lots of people complain about damage in shipping, so be sure that if you do order something you look it over VERY carefully before you sign the shipping manifest. If you don't, and something is damaged, you're going to have a problem.

Finally, although Overstock only charges $2.95 for shipping, you should know that if you have to send something back then YOU will be responsible for those charges and they can be extremely expensive.

Keep in mind, though, that you should be fine as long as you do your homework. Overstock is a good company.

What are good furniture stores for bedroom sets?

Jordyn

I'm moving soon, & my plan is to get rid of everything in my bedroom & starting out clean. I am getting all new furniture for my bedroom, & I need ideas. Any websites to help? Nothing too expensive either. :c
Also, the only website I've actually checked out was Ikea & nothing really caught my eye. & If you know another website that has accessories for bedrooms (sheets, curtains, etc.) than suggest those one too. Thanks!

All these places sell bedroom suites, but you don't give any indication of your budget or what style you like at all, so can't help with the curtains, sheets etc, but hopefully you'll see something you like on these furniture sites..

I have a bedroom set that i 'm going to sell but i don't know what to price it.?

danielle m

It includes
Two beds (can be used separately or as bunk beds)
Desk
Book shelf
Dresser
I've had it for maybe five years but it's still in great condition. There is no nicks or knacks or anything.
So does anybody know of a reasonable price?

Answer
Depending on the material. 600.00$ for standard wood. I would say if it's metal framing, or "cheap looking" you may only get 4 or 5, if that.

It depends on the quality of the furniture.

Why not look around online to get prices?

I would start with Babiesrus.com or Target.com.

Shopping online?

xoxo_sexy_

In a months time, my boyfriend and I will be living together, and we're going to need a lot of stuff to make our new place feel like "home"..I was just wondering if anyone here had any ideas on some shopping websites that might ship to canada for free? What I'm looking for the most would be furniture, electronics, and really anything that'll help our place look nice :) if anyone has any suggestions, it'd be greatly appreciated...thanks in advance!

Answer
My first suggestion would be to check out your local Freecycle. Use the link below, which will take you to Canada, next locate your province and then your city. I've seen bedroom suites, dinette sets, computers, etc. given away on our local site. You may get really lucky and get a house worth of furniture - or you might just end up with a set of dishes. Irregardless, it's worth the effort to sign up.

My next suggestion would be eBay as many sellers do offer free shipping, local pick-up, etc. You can narrow your searches locate items in your area.

Good luck and best wishes!

bedroom ideas?

musicfreak

ok i have two bedrooms. i want to make my second room into a sort of hang out room for me and my friends. i need some ideas though. yes we r teenage girls. i really enjoy music and bright colors. any suggestions please help
i also write my own music
im not going to have a bed in my second room maybe a couch

Answer
1st thing to consider: if your bedroom #1 is where you sleep and room #2 is more hangout than sleep - but you still want to accommodate friends/guests who want to sleep: then consider a sofa-bed/futon as the main piece of furniture to start with.
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S49841104
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S89848349

You could also consider a single bed with its long side flush with a wall and use large pillows and a top spread that is taut and isn't too poofy - and viola - you have yourself an over-sized couch.

Re: colors. perhaps you consider where/how you want your color. Either you use bright color over everything (which I don't suggest) - or perhaps better - you use more neutral tones for much of the space (including say three of the walls) and use a bright color for the 4th wall (perhaps the wall of focus with TV? and stereo) that the sofa/bed would be opposite from.

And consider addeding color with accent pieces: lamps, pillows, rug accents etc that will pop out even more if they have a more neutral background to rest in.

Also, if music is your thing consider how you might store/display your music. You can get a lot of color from this. If your music is all ipod and no cover art - consider visiting some thrift stores / record stores for some funky vinyl record covers to display in a grid of say 4 x 2 on your colorful wall above your stereo / tv?

Or if you want other cheap art ideas http://www.20x200.com has some very nice, and colorful, prints that start at $20. See my answer here for someone looking for wall art suggestions:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080518153140AAWdEpo&r=w#NbUvWzu6VjGqyq_kBwsm

Also, there are sites like this one where you can play with different color pallets: http://www.colourlovers.com/

Hope this helps.

Ideas for a New York theme bedroom?

[[]]

I want to redecorate my room with a NY theme.
What are some thing i should do, colors to use.
THanks

(not the team)

Answer
Try a modern look. Black would be too heavy on all walls so just go for one. With the others a gray. You could also buy a mural of new york. Try to accent the room with bright colors such as a rich bright pink, a bright orange or yellow, or a bright blue. Include pictures of new york. Also frame the I heart NY t-shirt in a frame.
go to this website for a subway metal sign: http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://imagecache2.all

How should I finish decorating my bedroom?

Travis

The last project of re-modeling our entire house was painting my room; three walls are a very soft tan color, almost a warm gray, and one wall is dark red, like red wine or almost brick red.

As far as my bedding goes, my sheets are medium brown with a dark brown comforter. I have two pillow shams that match the comforter, two pillows that match the sheets, and two that match the red wall. The rest of my furniture is leftover from the prior design and is mostly black, which I'm considering changing to a chocolate brown.

I'm going for more of a modern look, but I'm stuck on wall decorations. I'd like some nice art to hang up and give the room some character, but my brain is overloaded with colors and ideas after re-doing the entire house. Having recently discovered the joy that is Yahoo! Answers this is the first place I turned.

To the thousands of eager users: please share your ideas with me!

Photo collage of you and your friends/family.
Cut out any size out of thin cardboard. (a cereal box works great)
To make the hanger, punch two holes 1/2 inch apart 1 inch from the top in the center,
(where a hanger is on the back of a frame)
thread the ends of a twisty tie (the paper covered wire used to close bread) thru the holes, turn cardboard over, make a loop and twist the ends together.
You can glue photos side by side or overlapping.
or a multi-pc frame

what is the cost of furniture in alkhobar?

cooool

i need to know the price of a sofa set (6 seater, simple wood work with fabric cushion), a dinning table (6 seater), bedroom furniture (double bed with side table and dressing table or chest of draw). we like the designs of Ikea, but Ikea appears to be expensive. what other alternates are available at reasonable prices?

Answer
Go to thugba, there are furniture shops galore there. All the shops mentned by Mintee will cost you around 15000 SR to buy all the things you mentioned. In thugba, you will get all these at half the price and almost similar quality, most stuff sold these days are made in China or Malaysia. Turkish and Pakistani furniture is expensive too. To go to the thugba furniture market, ask someone the way but just to make it easy it is behind the Alkhobar Muncipality Building.

Mode of Transportation in Brunei?

Allan Troy

Our entire family will be moving to Brunei. I'd like to know what the mode of transportation is there and how everyday go about. Can you give me an idea with regard to the regular fare to get from one point to another especially in Bandar Seri Begawan? Also apartment rates and daily expenses?

Answer
Living in Brunei is like living in a country side and yet with all the city facilities within you reach.

There is this phrase there 'without a car, as if you have 1 leg broken'.
Seriously you MUST have a car to live over there. Worry not, cars are simply too cheap due to no taxes. I sold my honda civic (8years old) at BND$3K when i left 5 years ago. Thats how cheap it is.

It will be a joke for Bruneian to take public transport, vehicle ownership is four (4) vehicles per household. May i repeat, vehicle ownership is four (4) vehicles per household. They have extensive network of roads and highways.

Dont be surprise, bus services only started somewhere in 1998 on limited routes and are packed with foreign labours. Well, thats what they are meant for.
Taxi services are also available though the no is very much limited and be ready for a shock on the fare. Imagine, less than 50 taxis (fifty) for the whole country and they are mostly at the airport.

Another surprise, they dont live in apartments but detached houses. My previous employer paid BND800 for our 3-bedrooms detached house some 10km away from the city. Thanks to the tax free regime, groceries though 99% imported are still very much reasonably priced. As a guidance, KFC lunch set cost BND7.99 (2 pcs of chix, coleslaw, mashed potato, 12 oz carbonated drink). A buffet dinner at Royal Brunei airport restaurant cost BND39.00 exc drinks, no tax and no tippings.

You can join the Brunei Yatch club to hang around with the foreigners.

Everything is cheaper on the other side of the Malaysian border. Just be prepared to follow the weekly cross-border routine of the foreigners, locals alike. For entertainment/shopping, you can cross the western border to MIRI in Sarawak Malaysia. Some 2.5 hours smooth driving from Bandar Seri Begawan. For a quick drinks, you can reach KUALA LURAH, adjacent to the southern immigration complex in 30 minutes drive from the city. Kota Kinabalu in East Malaysia is a young vibrant city 20 minutes flight away from the city.

I had enjoyed my 10 years of working/living there and wish you all the luck.
