I am getting a new bedroom when i move to my new house, and i was wondering if anyone had any good ideas. My favourite colors are blue, green, and purple.

Answer
Use any one of the three on your bedroom walls and use the other two plus white or black for accent colors. It should look pretty decent as all three are neighbors on the color wheel.

Help with bed and bath decor?

Blue

I am 20 years old and in college. Next semester I will be moving into an apartment. I really need help with deciding on a theme and decor for my bedroom and bathroom. Please and thank you :)
Links are greatly appreciated!

Answer
If you will be painting, check out www.sherwin-williams.com for all of the color applications. Their color visualizer is too cool - You can upload photos of your space then "try on" paint colors until you find what you like.

That being said, the easiest color scheme to work with for a bedroom or bathroom is black and white with one or two accent colors - but no more than two or it can become visually crazy. Skip zebra print, because it seems like EVERYONE has done it, and you want you be unique, right?

For bedding, check out www.target.com - They have several great options that are quite stylish.

bathroom stuff

Or, check out your local Walmart - I just snagged a 15 piece complete/matching bathroom set (bath mat, the one that goes around the toilet, a shower curtain and coordinating curtain rings for under $15 (red, brown & tan) that just lights up the room.

Keep an eye on the the dollar stores as the summer wears on, because they have started to carry a lot of dorm furnishings within the last few years (Dollar General, Family Dollar and even BigLots). It can save you quite a bit of money.

Good luck with school & have fun shopping for your new place.

Where can I find a bed like this for my daughter ?

Lezzy.

Okay I am on my daughters account and she is really into Japanese culture. She showed me how she wants her room, and I thought a room makeover would be a wonderful Christmas present. The bed she wants is only on a website, and I don't like ordering furniture online, so no answers like Ebay please.
Thank you.

Here's the link:
http://www.haikudesigns.com/bedroom-furniture-sets.htm

She wants the floating platform bed.

Answer
Try walmart, here is a link to all the platform beds:

http://www.walmart.com/browse/Furniture/Bedroom-Furniture/Beds/_/Nh-3yc4Zaq90ZaqceZ1yzn9ll/Ne-aqxa?ic=48_0&ref=125874.184468+501454.4292504409&tab_value=172608_All&catNavId=102547&waRef=+501454.4292504409&catNavId=102547

I know you mentioned that you don't like ordering online, and I'm not sure if walmart actually carries any of these in the store, but you do have the option to have it sent to the store or to your home. But maybe you could go to your local walmart and check. These beds are very nice looking and very affordable then compared if you were to walk into a furniture store. My friend ordered one of these style beds off of walmart and had it sent to the store and it is very nice looking and made well. Hope this helps!!

What color should I paint my bedroom wall?

I have a light cherry bedroom set. The comforter has a garnet base with golds and darker reds. I have wood floors. And my wall decor is mostly reds and golds as well. Right now I have a marigold yellow color but I'm starting to realize that was the wrong choice! What would better suit this room and make it more calmer?

Answer
play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to help you imagine how the colors will look together. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:
http://www.sherwin.com/visualizer/

I think "threshold taupe" (# 7501) might be a good choice.

You can take a photo of your house & upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:
http://www.roomvues.com/
You can get color suggestions & for $5 they'll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like.

Mixing pine wood and black painted bedroom furniture?

lattemom

Does anyone have a photo of a bedroom set where the dresser/nightstand is pine and the headboard is painted black?

Answer
If you have a black headboard then you might want to add some black highlights to the dresser and nightstands to blend them together...paint the body of the dresser and nightstands black leaving the drawer fronts and tops the natural pine and add some great black iron hardware. It will look great with the headboard.

Angel

Okay so my abusive bf which im in the process of leaving ( like changing my social , phone number and dissapearing) has come back to my house(after i put him out) because his sister(who he treats like his gf) wouldnt let him stay at her house. Well she told him she called the car company and told them he had it( a car their recently deceased dad left) two days ago they reoped it in the middle of the night( it had all his school supplies in the trunck) He hasnt said anything to her about it but this morning he calls me all kinds of names, he hates me, when he gets his money(from his dad money he was gonna use to pay off the car) hes gonna leave me etc.. Why wont he take that out on his sister? Iv done nothing to him. Not to mention she already called the bank and told them to freeze his account( him being the benefi he was still able to get it. It all started because she came to our house and saw that we bought new(second hand furniture) before we were sleeping on the floor but nobody said anything about her brand new was/dryer, bedroom set (for her not ger kids that are in need of one) and her ten new pair og hundred dollar jordans wtf is this about really furniture?

Answer
You have an abusive boyfriend who is so bad that you are trying to get a new social security number and name change so you can hide and you end your story being pissed off about furniture?! Who cares how she spent her money? Why did you talk to your boyfriend? He should be blocked or you should have a new Tracphone with a different number that you are using since you claim you want to disappear. You should be not concerned about her ten new pairs of shoes and you should be selling your furniture to help finance your departure.

I think you need to refocus on what you are supposed to be doing and forget about him and his family. If he wants his school books all he has to do is go to the repo company and ask for it back and they will give it to him.

what are the mormon boys in the movie "The Strangers"?

sillysarah

like what do they do in it and like who are they?

Answer
The Mormon boys are the whole reason we know what happens the Kristen (Liv Tyler) and James (Scott Speedman) along with the reason we are creeped out at the beginning and end of the movie. In the beginning, Jordan, one of the Mormon boys, calls 911 after finding the bodies with the other Mormon boy named Joshua. In the end the Mormon boys give a pamphlet to one of the serial killers and ask her if she's a sinner which she answers, creepily, with, "sometimes". Lastly, the Mormon boys are scene examining the bodies and the movie ends with Jordan touching Kristen's hand as she awakes with a bursting scream.

Here for a summary:

After returning from a wedding reception, a couple staying in an isolated vacation house receive a knock on the door in the mid-hours of the night. What ensues is a violent invasion by three strangers, their faces hidden behind masks. The couple find themselves in a violent struggle, in which they go beyond what either of them thought capable in order to survive.
As the movie continues the young couple staying at a summer retreat are faced with a night of psychological terror and the reality of what will come is more terrifying than anything both could have imagined.

The film begins with two young well-dressed boys happening upon a vandalized property and a bloody crime scene, with a voiceover of a frantic 911 caller, rambling about a gruesome, bloody scene- we actually never see the caller in the movie and no mention is made of her. We are then taken backward and introduced to the two protagonists, James Hoyt (Scott Speedman) and Kristen McKay (Liv Tyler), who appear distraught. They retire to James' remote family vacation home, which James had prepared in advance with a set dinner table and rose petals throughout the living area, bedroom and bathroom. As Kristen takes a bath, she has a flashback to earlier in the evening; at a friend's wedding reception, James had proposed to Kristen, only to be turned down. Given the romantic setup of the home, James obviously assumed Kristen would accept his marriage proposal. Kristen later explains to James that she is not ready. In the meantime, James had called his friend Mike, explaining that things had not gone as planned, and for Mike to come pick him up in the morning.

Moments after they arrive, at 4:05 am, there is a loud knock on the door, which James answers with Kristen right behind him. A young, blonde-haired girl in her late teens to early 20s (Gemma Ward) stands at the doorstep . She says hi and asks, "Is Tamara home?" James, confused, answers no and that the girl has the wrong house, to which the girl replies, "Are you sure?" James replies yes, and we can only assume the girl is one of the assailants, foreshadowed by her saying, "See ya," then walking off. Although strange, both James and Kristen think nothing of it, as James indicates, "People get lost around here all the time."

Shortly after, Kristen mentions she is out of cigarettes, and James volunteers to go buy her a pack, saying he wants to go drive for a while anyway. Moments after he leaves, there is another knock at the door as Kristen sits by the fireplace. Kristen answers, but doesn't open the door, and it is the same girl asking, again, if Tamara is home. Kristen sends her off, and is clearly shaken by this strange occurrence. Then begins the stalking. The fire that James had set for Kristen begins to burn out of control and sets the smoke alarm off, which Kristen removes from the ceiling and places on the floor. During this time, there is rattling around the outside of the home, Kristen grabs a knife, a masked man appears in the background hallway (Kip Weeks) who Kristen does not notice. Kristen's fears are aroused when she sees the smoke detector is sitting on a chair and no longer on the floor. She tries James on her cellphone, but it is dead, so she plugs it in to her charger by the fireplace. She returns to the bedroom to use the landline, calls James, but the call gets cut off soon after. After she comes back out to the living room, she notices her phone is gone. Between random terrifying moments, including a record player being turned on in the living area, Kristen goes back into the bedroom, and then James returns. A frantic Kristen is trying to explain what is happening, and James has difficulty believing her story.

James then steps outside to retrieve his phone, only to see his car windshield has been smashed in. We learn that there are three masked assailants stalking James and Kristen, one guy and two girls. At one point, James and Kristen attempt to leave, and as they get in the car, a truck appears in the background, driven by one of the girls wearing a pin-up girl mask (Laura Margolis), and rams into James' car. The two get out of the car and go back into the house. James finds his father's shotgun and cartridges, enabling the couple to fight back. With all communication and transportation destroyed or cutoff, it is their only hope.

The couple hides out in a back room, and as they're hiding, James' friend Mike shows up. He enters the home, seeing that it is vandalized- the front door has been destroyed with an ax and there is broken glass on the floor. As Mike slowly steps through the house, the man with the mask lurks behind him, wielding an ax. Mike eventually comes into view where Kristen and James are hiding, and assuming that he is one of the assailants, James immediately shoots him in the face with a blast from the shotgun, instantly killing Mike. James and Kristen are horrified- James tells Kristen to find a place to hide and he goes outside to try and call for help using a radio in the barn. While creeping low in the woods outside the home, James sees the Pin-up mask girl come out from the barn. As he aims to fire at the girl, he is attacked from behind by the man in the mask. We hear one loud gunshot and do not know if anyone has been shot or hurt. However, the stalking continues and there is no sign of James for a while, so it is assumed that he has either been killed, or assaulted by the man in the mask.

Kristen then attempts an escape, and as she is running, she falls in a 4 foot ditch and injures herself, now barely able to walk. She climbs out and makes her way to the barn to attempt to call for help; when she finally hears a voice on the other end of the radio, the pin-up girl emerges and begins to smash the radio with an ax. Kristen then desperately makes her way back into the house and hides in a kitchen closet. While hiding, she sees the man in the mask wandering around the home searching around. As he wanders out of sight, the dollface mask girl appears in front of the closet door, frightening Kristen. Kristen comes out of the closet while James, appearing severely beaten, crawls back into the house, yelling for Kristen to run. Kristen makes her way back down to the bedroom, and shortly after she is confronted and slammed into a wall by the man in the mask, just about knocking her unconscious. Kristen makes futile attempts to grab on to the walls as she is being dragged down the hallway.

The next scene, James and Kristen are both seated and tied to chairs, with the three assailants standing over them. The pin-up mask girl draws the shades, revealing daylight. A horrified Kristen asks, "Why are you doing this to us?" The dollface mask girl subtlely replies, "Because you were home" thereby revealing the three assailants as crazed psychos who picked the couple at random. The three assailants remove their masks and place them down, showing their faces to their victims, although the audience does not get a direct look at any of their faces. Kristen is now wearing the engagement ring that James had offered to her, and the couple profess their love for one another, essentially accepting the fact that both of their lives are about to end. James is stabbed in the stomach slowly and methodically, and after him, Kristen is stabbed in the same manner.

In the next scene, the two young boys from the beginning are on bicycles on a secluded road. The three (maskless) assailants are driving in the opposite direction, out of town, with the man at the wheel. The boys appear confused, as if they know the three are strangers to the area. The truck stops in the middle of the road, the pin-up mask girl gets out to smoke a cigarette, the blonde dollface mask girl walks around to the boys, and asks for one of the pamphlets they are carrying. The two boys are Mormon missionaries, and one of them asks the dollface girl, "Are you a sinner?" to which she replies, "Sometimes." The boy offers her a pamphlet and both she and the pin-up girl get back in the truck.

The assailants must realize the boys are heading in the direction of an obvious crime scene, with the house vandalized and cars burning. Since it is a secluded area where throughout the movie we see no other people or cars, when the boys eventually happen upon this very recent crime scene, it would be readily obvious who the suspects are. The assailants brazen revelation shows that they want to be seen, and for it to be known they are the ones responsible for the crime. That, along with the dollface girl saying to her two partners as the truck drives away, "Next time it will be easier," indicate these are serial killers who have committed this type of act for the first time, and leave no doubt to the audience that they will continue to orchestrate similar crimes.

The two Mormon boys then enter the Hoyt residence, as we witnessed in the movie's introduction. There they find that Kristen and James have been untied and left for dead on the floor. We hear James gasping, and as the boys look over Kristen, she awakens and screams and the movie cuts to end credits.***

I have a small bedroom with a black bedroom set-queen bed, nightstand, dresser, and armoire. The walls are white with tan carpet. I went out and purchased a sateen black down comfort with a set of soft pink sheets but Im not sure Im going to be able to use it because there is just way way to much black. Can anyone suggest any ideas. Im just wanting a room that is pretty soft and romantic. I love the new furniture but I dont have any idea on how to decorate with it. Im not a "red" person, its never been one of my favorite colors. Any ideas on whether i should return the comforter and sheets and start over? I have no accents pieces yet so Im starting fresh.

Answer
pink works with black, tan works with pink, but I am not sure if you want to try all three. Maybe pull back on the pink to small items like alarm clock, bookends and such. Tan or white would be the best bet for the rest of the room. If you can paint, try a tan for 3 walls, leave 1 white and any trim white( paint is cheap and if you are renting be sure to ask first). You may want to use a throw blanket and some light decorative pillows on top of the bed to break up the black and try table runners or doylies on top of your cases. But if you are tight on money, Return the comforter and sheets to try something different.Maybe plain black and white will be pleasing, kinda go art-deco.

How much should I sell my bedroom furniture for?

Tamee

I have a black 7 piece queen size bedroom set with two night stands, a dresser and a mirror that I purchased for $1600 about 16 months ago. I also paid $600.00 for some pillow top mattresses. Everything looks brand new. Someone offered $700. How much should I sell it for? Mattresses included.

Answer
The best answer is whatever you can get for it, I think $700 isn't a good price for it, but it's most probably close to what it's worth at most.

When you buy new, you're paying for the over heads as well. If you place an add in a free online site saying what you have is new or bought 2 weeks ago, you'd be very lucky to get 70% of that $2200 you paid for it. Reason being that buying from a store you have in general an amount of consumer protection for the most part.

What most people don't understand, is that the store bought that product or those goods for a fraction of what they sold it for, to cover their over heads. My Ex used to work for a big department store, I was surprised to find out that some items have a 500% mark up, I'm not saying there was a 500% mark up on your goods, but I'm guessing at least 100% if not more.

Drew J

Greetings, Yahoo Answers, I come again to ask some questions.
1. I am wondering if it is okay to use my bedroom as a home studio (my drums and guitar are in there)
2. Is there anyway to build something cheap at 13 years old for a home studio? I can just find a free studio software
3. any ideas for vocal recording?
4. Any ideas for drum recording?

Answer
Absolutely, Drew! Go for it. Of course, a bedroom is not an ideal place for recording. No square or rectangular room is. But at your stage it will be fine.

Here are some basic tools for a home studio. It sounds like you're on a tight budget, so you'll have to save up.

The minimum requirement for recording an acoustic drum kit is a pair of microphones to be placed above the kit (called 'overhead's'), and one mic for the bass drum. (If you have an electric kit you don't need mic's.) Adequate mic's for the job might cost you $500 or 600. I know that's a chunk. You could just go with three Shure SM57 mic's. These are $100 each or less. The SM57 (and SM58) are standard gear for any studio. You can use them for almost anything and they are nearly indestructible. You would use two as stereo overhead's and one in the bass drum. When you have a bigger budget you can buy separate SM57's for the snare and toms. One between every two toms can work. The best overheads are what are called small diaphragm condenser microphones, like the M-Audio Pulsar II. There are mic's designed for bass drum.

One of your most important investments will be a good vocal mic. Try to acquire a large diaphragm condenser mic. This type is the best for vocals and all acoustic instruments. You can record drums, too. Just keep them at a safe distance from drumsticks. They're more delicate than SM57's. They can be as cheap as $100, although I would advice spending more than that. MXL makes some great large diaphragm condensers for under $200, and a couple under $100, although I can't vouch for those.

If you can't afford all of this right away, get the vocal mic. You can use it to record drums and anything else. Call Sweetwater 800-222--4700. They will tell you what else you'll need to get started - a mixer, an amp and speakers (or powered speakers), the right patch cords, etc. Tell them what your budget is and they'll work with it if they can.

Keep lots of soft things in your room - pillows, etc - to minimize the sound bouncing off the walls. Keep your mic's, and what you're recording, away from hard surfaces. In a small room it's best to set mic's as close to the source as possible.

Have fun!

How does Chicago compares to Phoenix, Arizona or New York City in terms of housing/jobs/environment/people?

Raines

Just want to know which city is better for me to move to for affordable studios/1 bedroom under $600-$700/mth and employment in office/clerical/psychology fields.

Answer
Stick to Arizona, the housing prices are rough in Chicago and NYC.

Even though the Chicagoland area is the largest employment area in the US, the housing in both the large cities would have to set you back at least $700.

I want to buy a bedroom set that will last, preferably for at least a couple generations, in solid wood. I don't want Ikea or anything like that. Where do you buy your furniture? Any tips on good, discount furniture?

Answer
Ethan Allan has really good stuff, but its really expensive. Stuff made out of real wood (not pine or particle board) is fairly pricey. Wicks has some decent stuff. We priced out a nice mahogany bedroom set there with a queen sleigh bed, highboy dresser, and a pair of nightstands which came out to about $3500. I'd say stay away from Levitz. I bought a recliner from them that fell apart within 2 years. My wife fell in love with a sleigh bed from Thomasville. without the matress it was $2500. I found a guy on ebay selling the exact same bed that was 6 months old for 1500 with a nice beauty rest matress. I went for it, but had to pay a few hundred to have it shipped from NYC to Los Angeles. You might try that though, look around in the high-dollar stores, note the maker and model number then look to see who might have it on ebay or maybe an internet retailer.

Kayla

I recently got into making my own furniture and decor for my bedroom lately. I realized it saves a lot of money and its make your room more personal. So I wanted to know if you guys had any cool ideas of some useful things to make that can go in my room???!!!

Answer
Try a chair covered with a soft, washed denim fabric. Use denim accents in the room, such as trimming a group of red pillows with fat denim cording.

You can even use a denim look to cover the walls. There are paint techniques for chambray and denim-look walls, which will be a perfect accent to a room with a cowboy theme or for a young lady who is crazy about horses.

Denim is a fabric that immediately imparts the feeling of comfort, so it is perfect for bedrooms in particular. Use denim comforters and pillow shams. You can even find chambray sheets and matching curtains.

Try using an old ragged pair of jeans to make valances for the windows, or dress up your curtains with chintz covered cornices.

Keep your walls in the neutral family of colors. Try soft camel beige or a subtle yellow. Pine furniture works well, or you can paint your old wooden furniture in light golden tones.

Furniture that is more casual than formal works better for this particular style. Other teen room decorating ideas to choose from are:

Garden styles. Use floral prints, upholstered furniture, floral area rugs, and balance the look with plain walls, floors, and curtains.

Casual styles. These include rustic themes, sports, nautical, particular hobbies, Americana . . . the possibilities are limitless. For example, a style could be developed around a collection of autographed baseballs, teapots, wooden duck decoys, trophies, art posters, etc.

Decorating with black and white. This style uses black as an anchor to set off a dramatic decorating look.

This teen room decorating idea is for the drama queen or king teenager in your household. Use a black and white floor, crisp white linens and comforters, and upholstered chairs. Set off the black with accents in red or warm gold, but be sure to pick up the black and white theme in lamps, pillows, picture frames, and other elements of the room.

Contemporary styles. These dictate clean lines, sculptural furniture, high ceilings, and geometric artwork.

Make use of brick walls and ceiling pipes. Avoid anything with floral patterns, ruffles, carvings, or traditional details. You are aiming for the look of an art or museum gallery, utilizing a bold, creative, and sculptural style.

Cottage style. This teen room decorating idea works especially well for teenage girls' rooms. Plaid or country-style fabrics work well with white furniture and rustic accent pieces. This style can transform a bedroom into a mini-vacation spot!

European or Parisian style. This is a glamorous style that invokes old world sophistication. It uses furniture and accent pieces from the rococo, baroque, neoclassical to the more modern art deco and cabaret designs.

Your main colors are black, white, and gold, with jewel tones as accents. Choose vintage-style furniture, such as a black or cream painted dresser with gold accents. Fabrics include silks and brocades. For fun, add a few vintage posters of old Parisian nightclubs, French train station signs, and black wrought iron shelves and tables.

The list of possibilities is endless. Find a good time to sit down and go over these teen room decorating ideas, and soon you will find yourself and your teenager working together to reinvent their bedroom.

How to decorate my apartment with a zen/Asian style?

~Gwen~

I'm moving into a new, smaller apartment and would love a minimalistic, calming decor. I can't afford to spend too much, but I am very crafty, own a sewing machine. I have a set of textured red curtains that look gorgeous.

Any ideas?

Answer
I love bamboo roman shades paired with beautiful curtains. Keep your furniture very minimal, and get a few asian inspired throw pillows for your couch, or chairs or whatever you have. Something that will match your curtains. Or you can find some fun asian inspired fabric to make the throw pillows out of (try e-bay for some cheap fabrics).

Check out this fabric, this is beautiful with a little hint of red, and it's not tooo busy: pretty cheap on e-bay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ZEN-CAMOUFLAGE-VINTAGE-JAPANESE-SILK-HAORI-FABRIC_W0QQitemZ270315153557QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item270315153557&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A0%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50#ebayphotohosting

You could do a couple of throw pillows out of that.

I would leave everything else very minimal, maybe do a nice mirrow with a big frame (black or something pretty plain). I would do a lot of natural things, like the bamboo shades, maybe a seagrass or jute rug,

Maybe a woven trunk for storage that can double as an ottoman. I recently picked up 3 of these at my local target, but they were 50% off.

http://www.target.com/Square-Banana-Leaf-Woven-Trunk/dp/B0012N759I/sr=1-1/qid=1228799917/ref=sr_1_1/183-7292684-8445769?ie=UTF8&index=target&rh=k%3Awoven%20trunk&page=1

They are darker in color as they appear on the website. I have used two pushed next to each other as a coffee table, and one as a side table next to a chair in my living room.

What is most important, is to bring stuff into the room that makes you feel the most comfortable in your space. I have "inspiration pieces" in all my rooms that really make the room for me. In my living room it's a palm tree painting from a local artist here, every time I look at it, I'm absorbed into it for a little while.

In my bedroom it's my down european pillows on my bed, They are so comfortable and comforting. Find something that you LOVE and build your room off of that. But use it as your "main attraction".

Happy Decorating, and Happy Holidays.

I have all black bedroom furniture ( my husband picked it out lol ). I have no idea what color accents or b edding to get. Any suggestions?

Answer
Get lots white room accents (lamps, vases, clocks, etc) with a little colour in there like bright blue or scarlet (in the smaller accents like candles, etc). bedding should be simple if you have lots of colourful accessories, but if you stick with white try something crazy and multi-coloured! Paint the walls a colour that shows up in your bedding (but one that doesn't show up a lot).
Ikea is an excellent store to go to, great design and unbelievable prices. Almost any art museum will actually have nice stuff, too. Target is another good place.

Master bedroom furniture is traditional dark brown (new), what color can I paint walls?

Amateur

Bedroom furniture consits of King size bed, two night stands and nine draw dresser. Considering to have 50" TV over dresser, sitting area and include small kitchenette.

Answer
Hi!

Brown is a neutral color, so basically, you can paint any color under the rainbow with it... it all depends on what you like. There are a few things to remember though, and I have a few suggestions... Hope this helps:

To have complete color harmony in any room, you need to have 3 colors: 1 dominant color (usually the walls), 1 medium color (usually the trim, molding, ceiling, furniture, etc.) and 1 accent color (usually decorative accents such as cushions, vases, throws, etc.). You can use the same color as your funiture as you do on an accent wall or all the walls... it depends on lots of things like your lighting, but we'll get to that later.

In decorating, black and white are not considered colors. White is the absence of all color. That's why you can match it with any color under the rainbow. Black is the mixture of all colors. That's why it too, can be mixed with any color under the rainbow. It's not necessary to have any white in a room, but it is very important that you have at least one black item: a vase, a picture frame, a throw rug, a cushion, a curtain rod, a lamp, etc.... you get the idea). The black will ground ALL of your colors together. So don't forget to add something black in your room.

What color of brown is your furniture: Black-brown (as in very dark espresso coffee), dark chocolate brown, etc. Since you didn't say, here are some color schemes that work with different types of brown furniture. The way to use them is for the 1st color = dominant 2nd color = medium and 3rd color = accent. Of course, you can use them in any other way you like, thought the ones listed here are best together in just this way. (after, you'll get some links to some nice color inspiration).

Chocolate brown & Terra-cotta & Taupe
Chocolate brown & Metallic Gold & Neutral bisque
Chocolate brown & Delicate teal & Teal blue
Chocolate brown & Teal blue & Gernaium red
Chocolate brown & Brick red & Sky blue

Espresso brown & Soft Orange & Coffee with cream
Espresso brown & Aquamarine & Silver
Espresso brown & Blushing Pink & Silver
Espresso brown & Hot pink and Icy Silver
Espresso brown & Candy apple red & Graphite gray
Espresso brown & Cinnamon & Pale sky blue

Light purple & Teal Blue & Geranium red
Cream & Earthy green & Cinnamon
Gold & Copper & Brownish Taupe
Coral brown & Cream & Rich brown
Brilliant yellow & Lavender & Light brown
Orange & Burnt Orange & Brown
Gray brown & Red & Cream
Orange & Dark brown & Metallic gold
Golden yellow & Sky blue & Velvety brown
Aquamarine & Butterscotch gold & dark brown
Cinnamon & Dark brown & Sky blue

This part would have been easier if you would have given us the style of furniture you have, but the pics should help for color inspiration... I hope you enjoy this, because I certainly enjoyed doing the research for this. I LOVE doing this !!!! :)

So... hope that was fun...

The best and most trusted way to find the color for any room, is to take an accessory or decorative item that will be going into that room: the duvet cover, the curtains, a painting, a rug, blinds, shutters, upholstered furniture, a lamp... you get the idea). Choose the item with passion. Make it something that you ABSOLUTELY LOVE, perhaps it was handed down by your great-grandmother or a cherished item you worked hard for. Or make it something that just SCREAMED out your name when you were shopping, so you knew you had to have it! Choose your color pattern from that item. And take it from there.

Keep in mind too, that color is an amazing thing! There's psychology behind color - it can make you have wonderful, relaxing dreams... or it can keep you from falling asleep, especially if you're already a wound-up 6 year old little boy! It can make you feel warm and comfortable, or hot and stifled. It can make you feel nice, fresh and cool - or it can make you feel like parts of you are going to freeze off. Color can be your friend or your enemy. And really, the earth can "shed some light" on us to help decide every color scheme. Here's how:
What direction does your room face - North, South, East or West? It makes a difference. If you've got the sun pounding down on your bedroom window, you'll want to stay away from warm colors, such as reds, yellows, oranges, etc. They'll make you feel too hot. Opt for cooler colors, such as blues, turquoise, cool creams... think mediterranean beach style here. In a room facing North, that doesn't get much light, you'll opt more for warmer colors and brighter colors: yellow, bright pinks, golden hues. Here's a most interesting link about how color affects us psychologicallly:

http://keelynet.com/biology/coloraff.htm

That's all I guess... Hope I helped you choose your color ;-)

You're always welcome to email and I'd enjoy knowing what color scheme you chose...!

Have a full size bedroom set, 25" tv and some other furniture that I need to sell because the house is being sold. Must sell within three weeks.

Answer
Try RPN Sales they are on Milwaukee Avenue just north of montrose

If I want to buy a bedroom set in Chicago (and put $$$ down) and take it home, where can I go?

Q. I have about $500 towards a bedroom set...I'm thinking I will spend $1000 or less...but want to take it home right away. Where could I go?

Answer
No, no!!
Do not go to rent-a-center.

They charge very high interest rates AND
in the contract that you sign,
they are allowed to enter your house
by any means possible to recover
their property if you should miss a
payment....including breaking in.
AND it is not a burglary so they won't go
to jail for breaking in because you signed
the agreement.

I'm sure there are lots of places that would
do that. There are a lot of "bedroom" furniture
stores up by Diversey and Central. They are
small businesses so I'm sure they would set
up a payment plan for you. Or check in your neighborhood for the small businesses and stop in and talk to them. Most are Ma & Pa shops and would welcome the business.

Also check your local newspaper "for sale" ads in the classified section for bedroom sets. You could probably get one inexpensively and they buy a new mattress set.

Good luck.

Sir Walter

I am thinking of attempting to build like a bedroom and living room sets for 18 in. American Girl dolls to go in the top floor of,treehouse wich i am giving a transromation after cleaning it up. How long would it take to build the bedroom and leving room sets and what wood should i use???? How much $ would,it cost to buy wood and all the other stuff needed for building? What is the best wood for doll furniture . I have made doll bed and dresser before. The dresser turned out ok but the doll bed broke.
highly expenive an real looking.

Answer
"Doll furniture" can be easy and quick to make or more complex and take longer to make if highly realistic. Don't know which one you want. You also don't say the style of furniture you want to make though perhaps American Doll is associated with one style and I'm just unfamiliar with AD.

If you want to use wood, there would still be great differences in the resulting furniture items, realism, etc, depending on your skill and intentions, quality of the wood, type of paint/finish, degree of realism, etc.

There are lots of sites online and books at the library or book store that deal with making doll furniture from wood though:

Do you think I can rebuild my toyota camry transmission?

CrownJewel

I am not a get down and dirty type of girl by far. I have always called my husband in the room to kill a spider, but we have experienced many financial hardships over the past year and I have humbled myself and done lots of things I use to wouldn't dare. Such as picking up trash restoring it and making an awesome new restored bedroom set. Cleaning out a gross fridge in order to buy it at a steal of a price and save hundreds of dollars. Our car gave out on us a few days ago I had a mechanic come look at it and he's certain its the transmission. We can't afford the transmission let alone the labor. We have 3 girls Christmas is around the corner and we live in a city where we moved for strictly work purposes therefore have no family or friends. Needless to say we NEED this car. It's not really my preference to get my hands dirty but I WILL and CAN because I'm a smart girl and research and comprehension is second nature for me. Even as I state this if I am honest I think what might hinder me in this instance is I AM NOT GOOD AT LEARNING VIA WRITTEN DIRECTIONS. I CANT READ MAPS AND I HATE HOW TO MANUALS when it comes to things that have lots of small nuts and bolts and parts. I get confused easily and frustrated because I feel as though I don't understand. NOW ON THE OTHER HAND. I learn Quickly from listening and seeing and asking questions. I am the type of individual that no I dont know what the map says but I can navigate myself almost from anywhere as long as I know which direction I am heading. NO I CANT READ and put together my daughters canopy bed from that booklet but I can look at the parts on the bed and figure out where they go and what keeps them together in no time. If I read a how to manual there might be wording that confuses me but if I watch and listen to you put it together if something confuses me I am a great communicator and can ask a very specific question to gather an understanding. So I am not entirely helpless. Do you think never have working on a car in my life I can remove a transmission and rebuild it on my 2002 6 cylinder transmission or would I be able to follow instructions via skype from a mechanic?

Answer
First, you being a girl has nothing to do with whether you could handle rebuilding a transmission. That being said, there's a reason why people go to special schools to learn how to rebuild them is because there are so many different types and they are very complex machines.

OK, they're just gears and clutches. Granted. But if you don't get tolerances right, seals in proper order, clutch packs and bands tensioned properly, you're just turning the transmission into even more garbage.

Plus, you need a uniquely specific set of tools. By the time you buy the tools alone AND the parts to rebuild your transmission you've already spent more than what it would cost to buy a used transmission and install it.

Installing a transmission is fairly straight forward. And if you are savvy enough to look at a thing and understand how it comes apart and goes together then someone with a little knowledge could probably guide you through the process.

Finding a mechanic who would be willing to spend hours on skype with you while you do the work - well, Grandma has a better chance of being run over by a reindeer.

Since watching is your strong point, try searching on YouTube for videos that show the basics of how to remove and install a transmission. Then look to see if you can find a video on how to rebuild a transmission. You will notice the vast array of special tools you probably don't yet have. And getting them will not be cheap. So I think the best bet for you is to buy a used transmission from a junk yard, one with at least a 30 day guarantee. That way if you get it home and it's junk, yeah, you have to do the job again, but at least you either get your money back OR another transmission for another attempt.

But front wheel drive transmissions are more difficult to remove because of the need to pull the axel's out. There again you may find yourself in need of specialized tools.

When one can't afford to have something fixed, often they have to go without. Since it is the holiday season, maybe you can find someone willing to part with an old car for real cheap. I've seen people buy a car for $25.00 and keep it going for years. Don't expect to buy a Lexus in top condition for $25.00. Not unless you can find Mr. Scrooge RIGHT AFTER his Phantasmic visitors finished with him.

Good luck.

Happy Holidays.

My boyfriend want us to try more adventurous things during sex but he wants me to come up with the ideas because he wants to please me but I have never tryed anything like that before and I don't know where to start? can anyone help me with some ideas we can try? by the way we are 18.

Answer
I think he wants you to take control.
. Buy some nipple clips, rope and/ or padded handcuffs, feathers, oil(massage),a vibrator, cock ring, blindfold, ball gag, high heels, paddle, leather bustier, anything else that you can think of.Use them any way you want. typical would be, meet him at the door when he comes home from work. Tell him he is late, he is a bad boy, take off his clothes and get down and kiss your feet. If he complains, use the paddle. make him crawl into the bedroom if he doesn't crawl fast enough use the paddle, oh hell, just use the paddle because you want to, tie him to the bed, hands to the headboard, feet spread to the foot board, use the clips, blindfold, if he gets to noisy ,ball gag. tickle with the feather, drop hot wax on his stomach and nipples. You are in charge, do anything you want
before you start, tell him you have a surprise for him when he gets home. he is to do what ever you say when he gets home. Tell him that he can stop at any time. set up a signal, A toy cell phone works. tell him to push a button and make it beep.
the ultimate goal here is to make it tough but enjoyable, he must get off, but usually it is at his speed. the goal here is to determine when YOU want him to get off, and that is a long time after you start. bring him close but don't let him go over the top. if you make a mistake, remember he should recover in 10 to 15 minutes. during that time you could sit on his face and get youself off. good luck.

Suggestions for bedroom colour(s) to match furniture etc...?

Main bedroom: Consists of oak flooring, dark leather kingsize bed with large square stitched leather headboard and two dark rosewood chest of drawers. The bed with furniture takes up alot of the floor space.
Bedding, curtains/blinds need to be changed as well so I have basically a blank canvas.
I would like something dramatic instead of a white or cream but need help....can anybody suggest some good colour combinations?????

How do i decorate a small ugly bedroom?

kate

my family is moving into my grandmas for a couple months and my bedroom ill sleep in is super ugly. It has blue carpet and wallpaper (so i cant paint) and its pretty small. The only furniture i have in there that is hers is a twin bed, a big desk and a mirror on the wall. What can i add to the bedroom to make it more modern and teenager appropriate?

Answer
It's hard because you don't mention what you'd like more exactly.

But I'd go with big time emphasis on the coverlet for the bed - maybe a shag throw, spectacular colour of your choosing - then huge cushions, so you can lean them on the wall and your bed becomes a sofa during the day. Also get very creative with the cushions.

The desk - can you put mirror tiles on top? And some decoration to be reflected in it?

One or more of those hanging paper lamps from IKEA (or similar).

Look at the websites for Feng Shui - they have great ideas. Whatever it is about energy, I don't know, but it usually ends up with something looking good.

Should I purchase from JC Penney or Value City Furniture?

I have been looking around for a micro-fiber sectional and I found what seem like identical ones that I like at both JC Penney and Value City. My mom says that she would be scared to purchase from Value city but, I purchased my bedroom set from there. And it is fine almost a year later. However, I have never purchased anything from JC Penney before. So, I was wondering does anyone have any experiences good or bad from either stores.

Answer
1) What is the price difference between the two? Value City Furniture has a guaranteed lowest price, and both JC Penney and Value City Furniture offer a ONE year Warranty. You have the same warranty with each. If the sectional you're interested in is their exclusive American Signature brand, it carries a limited LIFEtime warranty above and beyond your 1 year warranty. Value City Furniture runs over 130 stores and have been in business for over 60 years. They own their own their own factories, and therefore don't have a retail mark-up as JCPenney would have.
Also, Value City Furniture is backed by the BBB and has an A rating. JC Penney furniture is NOT backed, or affiliated with the BBB.

Will be in the next year or so looking for a new bedroom set (king size bed). Just curious what others have paid for bed, dresser, drawers, nightstand ... etc the works?

Answer
First of all, make sure your mattresses are very comfortable. Don't be afraid to lay on them while you are in the store. Next I agree with the previous person about not going all matchey-matchey. I bought a matching dresser, chest & media cabinet for around $2700.00. I don't have a problem with whether they are solid wood or not as long as the look good and are sturdy. I bought a couple of inexpensive bombay chests to use as bedside tables and painted them to match the walls & chair. I didn't buy a headboard but I bought a set of candle holders that hold 16 votive candles ( 8 each). These are flame-less candles of course but when they're lit at night it is very romantic. Also, I bought a pair of inexpensive lamps and painted them the color of the walls. Believe me I'm not a crafty person but I had an eye for what I wanted & it turned out very well. Just take your time & have an idea of what you want your room to look like. Also, don't overcrowd the room.

How much does bedroom furniture (decent quality wood) depreciate each year?

Q. I need to sell my bedroom set....king memory foam mattress, head and foot boards, nine drawer dresser with a mirror and two night stands with two drawers each.

I purchased the set in 2005 for $5000.00

Answer
The best thing to do is to get on to Craigs List, Backpage.com and Ebay. See what similar pieces are going for. There is no Blue Book value for furniture or mattresses. At best I would say you would be lucky to get 40 - 60 percent of origninal value.

I'm using light purples and greens, and I also really like butterflies and dragonflies, but I still want to know your opinions.

I think you should toy with some animal prints!! I think a zebra print comforter would look really cool with your colour scheme. something like this:

might look really cool!
this one comes in black, pink, green, light blue and dark blue.

I think if you want something that goes BAM get some really crazy bedding! the bed is usually the center of attention so make it AWESOME! Oh, and make sure to have some funky curtains, pillows and wall hangings to go with the theme.
