does anyone have bedroom ideas?

sunshine.e

im 15 and im redoing my room. i got a full size bed. and a comforter set. i also have a small vanity and a desk (not sure if its staying though). im either painting my room mint green or a lightish turqouise color with an accent wall in a darker color. i was wondering if anyof you guys had good ideas on how to decorate or arrange furniture or add fun to my room. oh its not the biggest room over...but its medium sizes. i also have a bookcase and an extra dresser in addition to my closet.
http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=119044
above is my comforter.

thankss in advance.

Answer
Thats a really cute comforter set!
I would suggest putting all your furnature against the walls. This will make the room seam bigger, cause you'll have more space in the center.
It would be cool to get like a huge black shag rug for the center of your floor. Or white - depending on the color of your bed, and the color of the carpet.
And not everything has to match. You could get a whole bunch of colorful pillows and just put them everywhere. Big ones and little ones.
Shadow boxes for the walls would be cute too.
If you don't know what thoes are - look them up on google or something, im sure you've seen them before. They make a good place to put stuff, and they''ll match the style of the comforter and stuff.
I love redoing rooms. =]

Good luck!

paint color ideas for bedroom to match white bedding with grey border?!?!?

Q. hi! i am in desperete need of some help with my paint color for my bedroom. i have a white comforter that has an "ash" grey border on the outside from restoration hardware http://www.restorationhardware.com/rh/catalog/product/product.jsp?productId=prod250023&navCount=2

my curtains are white and my bedroom set is a light color of oak. i have lavender accent pillows and a throw. i don't want everything to be too "matchy matchy" but i'm leaning towards a lighter shade of grey on the walls. i am not really good at decorating so any serious advice would be so much appreciated =)

thank you all!!!!

Answer

How do I buy a bedroom set with matching desk and chair?

Val

All of the stores and online sources that I contacted didn't know where I could do this (bedroom sets don't usually come with matching desks and chairs). Any suggestions?

Answer
it depends on your taste. How about ikea or Ethan Allen furniture. I have a matching desk. I hope you find what you like.

Which color writing desk should I get with this bedroom set (pic included)?

mrr86

I ordered this bedroom set
http://www.vandrie.com/Item.aspx?ID=-116960777&SNum=B379-49

and I ordered brown curtains, have a light brown wooden floor, and blue walls.

The furniture does not come with a writing desk. Do you think I should go for a color similar to the furniture, or break it up and go with a dark brown wood? I was thinking of this desk in particular http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/fur/492115122.html

Answer
You have to be careful blending these two different colored woods. While they are all great pieces, the dark oak desk may stand out against the lighter chestnut pieces especially with the blue walls. I would seriously try to find a desk in either chestnut or something lighter. Better homes and gardens has a program that you can use to try different color schemes, floors, etc. This site may be helpful in letting you see how the pieces will look. Good luck.

Spencer hastings bedroom?

Lily

Does anyone know where I can buy the throw pillows she has? Links would be helpful to the exact pillows she has.

Answer
Striped duvet set is from Ikea
Toile duvet is from Cuddledown
Paisley-ish sham is from World Market
All 4 throw pillows are also from World Market here, here, here, and here
Total price for all the bedding (queen size) would be around $250. I'll probably use coupons and creativity to get it all for a bit cheaper, though. http://savanniefannie.blogspot.ca/2013/03/copycat-spencer-hastings-bedroom.html -------- Spring Bloom Embroidered Lumbar Pillow http://www.worldmarket.com/product/spring-bloom-embroidered-lumbar-pillow.do?&from=fn -------- Flower Embroidered Lumbar Pillow http://www.worldmarket.com/product/flower-embroidered-lumbar-pillow.do?&from=fn ---- Seabird with Map Embroidered Throw Pillow http://www.worldmarket.com/product/seabird+with+map+embroidered+throw+pillow.do?&from=fn Literie Spencer Hastings http://www.cafepress.fr/+spencer-hastings+bedding ---------- Spencer hastings bedroom https://www.google.ca/search?q=Spencer+hastings+bedroom&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=LoTLUejBB8q70QG3pYDICw&ved=0CCsQsAQ&biw=864&bih=410 ----------- Pillows https://www.google.ca/search?q=Spencer+hastings+bedroom&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=LoTLUejBB8q70QG3pYDICw&ved=0CCsQsAQ&biw=864&bih=410#facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=-mwhYUB2UCbKXM%3A%3B_bAWRvkkdLdnZM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252F1.bp.blogspot.com%252F-LtnoesNChv8%252FTyV88S483-I%252FAAAAAAAABMU%252FaGt2Uwo3OLo%252Fs1600%252FSpencers7.JPG%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Falice-unlugarparasonar.blogspot.com%252F2012%252F01%252Fspencer-hastings-bedroom.html%3B480%3B640

(:

p.s. i personally think this bedroom set would go good with pink and brown b/c apricot is sorta brownish but doesn't clash!!

Haverty's Furniture in Dallas?

You Asked.

I found a bedroom suite that I love, but Haverty's doesn't have items in stock, their stores are simply showrooms, therefor there is a delivery charge to get the item from Dallas to the house. I live in East Texas and will gladly make the trek if it saves on delivery charges... which I think are ridiculous considering Haverty's doesn't give you the option to pick it up for no charge or have it delivered for an additional charge.

Does anyone know if the warehouse is open to the public so we can buy the set and bring it home ourselves?

Does the warehouse have any "damaged" items?

And, can you tell me where the warehouse is at? As I said, I live in East Texas, and am not familiar with the stores around Dallas. I have searched on Yahoo and the Haverty's website, but the address of the warehouse does not pull up.

Thank you!!!

Answer
Try going through my store catalog. Store located in Fort Worth area. E-mail for prices of things ya like and will be sure to give a good deal and can have everything very fast.

Answer
Ying Yang Twins
"Bedroom Boom"
(feat. Avant)

[Verse 1]
Listen baby, sometimes I know I be playin but set aside the bullshit, I'ma grown ass man.
Whats to understand that I love to fuck, Can I hit it from the back or put ya ass in a buck?
Screamin Shawty what's up, are we fuckin' are what, We aint got nothin to discuss i'm simply tryin to bust nuts.
The temperatures risin', We reachin the bed, Ya eyes begin to roll in the back of ya head.

[Verse 2]
Bangin' Headboards, The loud noise, The sound of you screamin.
Turn me on cus it sound like you singin'.
Sayin my name constantly, Sayin' daddy keep fuckin me.
Get it how you want it long as you keep lovin' me.
Put ya thing down,
Boom the bedroom do it right,
And it jus might be a long night, Alright,
Now be Quiet you dont want them to hear us outside,
let me get on bottom while you ride.

[Chorus]
Bedroom Boom, (Thats whats goin down tonight),
Bedroom Boom, (Let me do ya body right),
My bed will be boomin' for you... (boom boom)
Bedroom boom, (All between the sheets baby)
Bedroom boom, (I wanna drive you crazy),
My bed will be boomin for you.

[Verse 3 (Avant)]
It feels like heaven when were off in this room together.
I Can hear the music playin, then I hear ya voice sayin,
"Ohh daddy now jus give it to me right there." "Ohh baby, Take a handful of my hair."
Cus you like it rough (rough) cant get enough (nough).
Cus i'm the type of nigga thats gon fill you up, like a cup.
And make this love thing overflow,
I wont stop until ya body's tellin me so.
Sheets gettin' sticky from the strawberries and whipped cream,
If these walls could talk they would say this is one hell of a scene.
Now you movin ya body jus like a gymnast,
From the bed to the dresser, All type a' crazy shit.
Case is tellin me stories, Body's hot and so horny,
Hittin it from the rear, Wanna whisper somethin in yo ear. "I'm gonna love you all night... I promise."

[Chorus 2]
Bedroom boom, (Bedroom boom!!)
Bedroom boom, (I can hear it baby!)
My bed will be boomin' for you, (We'll be fuckin all night, yes..)
Bedroom boom, (Hittin yo body!)
Bedroom boom, (Like boom boom boom!)
My bed will be boomin' for you, (My bed will be shakin' til' the screws come loose, while i'm off in it)

[Verse 4]
Boom goes the bedroom, Behind closed doors, And the bedroom depends on how far things go.
You move slow or move fast when you off in that ass, But you hittin' that mothafucker like everytime yo last.
Spread yo legs like a bald eagle, Work that back, Move like a snake when you do dat dat.
Now be quiet, You dont want them to hear us outside.
Let me get on bottom while you ride.

[Verse 5]
You hotter then the eye on the stove, (Yea) Temptation got ya outta control, (Mmm Hmmm), You tremblin' like you
out in the cold, You screamin' you cant take it no more. Beat the pussy so bad we done fell on the flo.
(Can you believe it?) Throw our clothes in the kitchen and in the garage. All this love is waitin for you
like i'm El' Debarge. See my dick stay hard. (Oh) And its gon stay cocked. (Yes) If a bitch fuck wit me she
gettin her cherry popped.

[Chorus 3]
Bedroom boom, (This is serious business, Baby)
Bedroom boom, (What goes on in this room, So what baby..)
My bed will be boomin' for you, (Say Boom! boom!)
Bedroom boom, Bedroom boom, (And it feels amazing!)

Where can we buy a new Bedroom set?

SelfGirl35

We are looking for a new bedroom set and wondered where we could get one without spending thousands on it....We went to IKEA but we were not crazy about any of the sets there. Any you can reccommend online? Thank you!

Answer
It really depends on where you live. Here in Wisconsin, the place to go is Furniture Deals & Steals, with one in Madison, one near La Crosse, and one in Baraboo (that I'm aware of). I've seen another place, advertised on TV, called Jennifer Convertibles, that seemed to have some sensible prices on couches...so maybe they'd have good prices on bedroom sets. You'll just have to look around your area and make some calls, and also on the internet too. There are lots of independent furniture stores to check out. And sometimes you can get a really good deal at some second-hand places, or even an estate auction. Then there's the random hotel auctions, which you can often get a really decent set of furniture at a good price. I'm not fooled by name brands though. My daughter used to work at Ashley Furniture, and she saw how it was really made. Cheap junk. And I bought an Englander king sized mattress 5 years ago, that came with a 15 year warranty, and it's in need of a new mattress (sagging) already. Make sure you and another person lays on the mattress for several minutes before buying it, to check for comfort and workmanship. Even if you do all the right things, there's still no guarantee you'll get something that will last longer than a few years, depending on how hard you are on your furniture. Hope you find what you're looking for. <*)))><

Bedroom ideas for 3 boys?

J

My three sons are going to be sharing one bedroom. They are aged 6 1/2, 4 and 4. The bedroom that is going to be theirs is pretty large (14-4tf X 12ft) and has a bathroom and a large closet. Does anyone have any ideas on how to organize and arrange the three kids in one room? I would to give them some space away from each other. Any themes are appreciated as well. Thanks!
I'm going to put this question in the parenting section too, in case anyone has ever been in my situation.

Answer
I like the idea of two sets of twin bunk beds, also. In particular, this is better than:

-three separate beds eating all your floor space.
-a double on bottom, twin on top bunk that would sleep all of them now but they can't stay this way for long...how long can two boys sleep together in a double bed?
-a loft-type system that can be dangerous if you don't execute it properly, and expensive if you buy a kit or have it done professionally.
-PLUS you get room for a buddy to sleep over.
-AND you have room for the twins to be at ground level and your older son to be up top like the big boy he is. As they grow up and top bunk is more inconvenient than cool, and anyone can be up there safely, they can rotate the sleeping arrangements.

As for storage spaces, I would say like with the beds, you need to go up where you can. Just don't put things so high that kids can't safely reach and do for themselves. As they get taller and more coordinated you will have more freedom to build up.

I don't know how you feel about individuality and where you draw the lines. I think each kid should definitely be allowed his own things, and personality, of course this is true. But you might consider some things community property to be stored together and shared among them...some of their toys and books and media, more expensive stuff like their TV and game systems and maybe some sports equipment...

One thing I would do if I had three young boys that close in age is extend this principle to socks and maybe even underwear too. I would gather up every one of their current socks and toss them out...and replace them with 50-60 or so pairs of IDENTICAL cheap white socks for them all to share. Keep dirty in the bathroom in a big roughtote or maybe even a kitchen style wastebasket with a swinging lid, labelled boys whites...wash them all together once a week in hot with bleach to keep them sanitary and bright...dump them unfolded into another container for storage of clean. This eliminates the drama of pairing up socks and sorting among people, and the waste if any get ruined or go missing. You might keep another (smaller) collection of identical black dress socks. Clean out and replace everything every year, maybe in the spring when you are spring cleaning and organizing, and when you aren't already saddled with back to school expenses or holiday gifts. This might be a hundred dollars or so expense every year. A small price to pay for such convenience all year. I think you can get at least another five years out of the collective sock arrangement. You might have to abandon the underwear clause a little sooner hahahh.

As for decor, I would go with a larger theme for the room, and each kids personal things...their dresser, their desk, their backpack, can be done in a particular element of that theme to both express themselves and distinguish their stuff. A bit like color coding but a little more descriptive I guess.

Animal themes abound...could do the room in the big theme and each kid decorates their stuff with an animal...you could do farm (duck, goat, horse) pets (dog, cat, hamster) dinosaurs (bronto, stego, pterydactyl) bugs (grasshopper, spider, bee) zoo (zebra, elephant, giraffe) etc. You could do sports...do the room to look like a stadium or locker room or sportscasters studio, or hang jerseys and display sports equipment. Each kid gets a separate team...or same sport, each kid rocks pro-college-their school, or each kid decorates with a different sport. You could do music...album covers or music notes, etc...and each kid gets a different singer or band or rapper, or each kid gets a different instrument. You could do games...decorate with vintage game boards, and get lamps and furniture that resemble game pieces. Each kid could be cards, dominoes, and dice. You could do a cartoon room...each kid decorates with a different cartoon. Or do a Disney room and each kid gets a different character. You could do bright colors and everyone gets a different shape...circles, squares, triangles.

Bedroom Curtain Question?!?

cindapea

In our bedroom we have a doube window. I was looking at these curtians to match the bedroom set I want to buy and they have the two pannels and you have to buy the valence seperate. My question is, with our double window should we order 2 or 4 of the panels and 1 or 2 valences? So per 2 panels we would order 1 valence? I hope this makes sense to someone! I need help! Thanks in advance! ~Lisa
https://www.designerlinensoutlet.com/store/product1.asp?SID=1&Product_ID=107792&ProdName=Liz-Claiborne-Penelope-Rod-Pocket-Window-Panel This is the curtain and valance I am going to be buying..

Answer
When you say you have double windows, do you mean that you have two windows, side by side?
If so, it just depends on the look that you want.
It also depends on the length of the window combined and the length of the valance.

Same thing with the panels.
If you want the curtains to stay closed and cover the window, two panels total may work. But, if you want to create a look that shows there are two windows and you would like to open the curtains through the day, buy 4 panels total.

I hope this helps!!

Orla xx

Answer
Hey :)

Okay, I was just about to ask pretty much the same question :D Then I saw yours and thought I may as well answer it =)

Pink & Black ALWAYS look really well together =) Maybe do two walls pink (hot pink) and two walls black. It would look really mature but at the same time super girly :D (Like, two walls black oppistie each other, not beside. And then the same for pink. So it would be like Pink Black Pink black)

Yeah, pick a theme :) Maybe have loads of stuff hot pink (eg. cushions, duvet covers, curtains) so they would contrast against the black, and they would stand out. Black and white photos would look really deadly :D Do you like Marilyn Monroe ? Yeah if you do they have black and white paintings in Argos. http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/0053734/c_1/1%7Ccategory_root%7CHome+and+furniture%7C14571899/c_2/2%7Ccat_14571899%7CPictures+and+photo+frames%7C14572322/c_3/3%7Ccat_14572322%7CPictures%7C14572325.htm
This would look really cool the pink wall too :) - http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/6235202/c_1/1%7Ccategory_root%7CHome+and+furniture%7C14571899/c_2/2%7Ccat_14571899%7CPictures+and+photo+frames%7C14572322/c_3/3%7Ccat_14572322%7CPictures%7C14572325.htm
or this :) -
http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/6233390/c_1/1%7Ccategory_root%7CHome+and+furniture%7C14571899/c_2/2%7Ccat_14571899%7CPictures+and+photo+frames%7C14572322/c_3/3%7Ccat_14572322%7CPictures%7C14572325.htm

And then for storage stuff.... well it depends on what furniture you already have. If you get to choose the double bed (which you probably will) then I would go for something like this -
http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/6592419/c_1/1%7Ccategory_root%7CHome+and+furniture%7C14571899/c_2/2%7Ccat_14571899%7CBeds%7C14572194/c_3/3%7Ccat_14572194%7CDouble+metal+beds%7C14572203.htm ... or something along those lines :)

If you want somewhere for your make-up then I would suggest like a shelf or something? Or if you like, then maybe a dresser. If you got shelves then put it/them at eye level and if they dont have a back then you could put a pretty mirror above and decorate it :) You could arrange your makeup all nice and pretty :D ..It would look nice =)

Okay I'm so sorry but I cant tell you any more because I have to go :(
I hope what I told you helped though :D

Love Orla xOx

EDIT: ii only just realised your name is Orla :D Yeah us Orlas' rock =) xOx

Rich people - How do you feel about yourselves?

Sunny McBu

Also, how's it feel being rich? How do you feel your life is different than the majority's?
This isn't a religious question, nor do I want religion shoved down my throat. This is a question about money.
Ok. Let's go with top 15%.

Answer
Everyone's definition of "rich" is different.

To be clear, I consider my self very fortunate and am just trying to answer this question to the best of my ability.

My father is an entrepreneur (is a very self-made man considering he grew up on the streets of NYC) and my family owned 2 private jets, 2 boats, 3 houses (all with more than 6 bedrooms), several luxury cars, a limo, employed chef, employed house manager, and a full-time employed housekeeper at the peak of his businesses (this was maybe one or two years ago).

Assuming I meet your definition of "rich" than I feel like everyone else I know. I go to an all-girls private school -- one of the top schools in the country -- and I study 3 languages as well as do over 100 hours of community service yearly. Every person I know attends a private school and is into the same sports as I am.

I feel like my life is not different than the majority's lives because although I have had the oppurtunity to go to 10 of the 16 (used to be 17 until Le Bec Fin became casual) five star restaurants in the United States and have visited France, Italy, Nevus, Bora Bora, and the Caribbean (to name but a few), my life is not all easy.

I have a 6-figure trust fund to fall back on when I am 25 years old but I still work hard for my shopping money. I babysit, I do chores around the house, I help my community a lot, and I try to be as social as society allows a 13 year old. I have several designer purses, shoes, sunglasses, and other accessories but I still have to put up with my annoying parents: the same as the rest of the world.

What sets me apart from anyone else I know is that my dad has been charged with several white-collar crimes and one of his largest companies (worth $400 million) went bankrupt not long after my 8th birthday and now I have to put up with newspaper reporters calling my house (so our 4 phone lines are often busy), various people knocking on our door for interviews, and then I have to deal with the public humiliation that comes with this press attention.

I am no celebrity world-wide, but in my community my family is of very high status and the press says very very nasty things which no ordinary 13 year old girl should ever have to deal with.

You have to understand that although my IQ is among the top 0.5% and although my family's wealth exceeds beyond the top 5%, I do have a lot to deal with.

It's funny, I've always wanted an "average" life style with loving parents (I was raised mostly by nannies) and no involvement in the business world (my brothers and I already have a 1/4 share in over 10 companies and we are all under 18 years old, plus I signed my first $200 million contract in first grade at 6 years old). Whereas most people want an Upper Class life, the "American Dream" as some refer to it as.

I say my life feels different -- yeah. It feels good sometimes be wealthy -- of course. But at the end of the day, I just want shelter, food, and love. Anywhere my life goes as long as I have someone to love me, food to keep me warm and healthy, and shelter over my head I will be happy.

I know a lot for a 13 year old. A lot of people say I have grown up too quickly because of the pressure put on me.

-Catherine

Edit: To the person who said wealthy people never do anything for the community is 100% UNTRUE! My mom is a philanthropists which means she gives away money as her job to organizations. We are just ordinary people. My dad is sitting in his office downstairs right this second in a Nike tracksuit because he works out every morning at our gym. My mom is in her bathrobe in one of her closets probably picking out cloths to wear.

What countries do you think have the most interesting Christmas traditions?

Nine

Subjective; but tell me their traditions :)

Most interesting gets 100 :D

Answer
In my opinion, its in China, England, Holland, Italy, Mexico, and Sweden.

Christmas Traditions in China: The small number of Christians in China call Christmas Sheng Dan Jieh, which means Holy Birth Festival. They decorate their homes with evergreens, posters, and bright paper chains. Families put up a Christmas tree, called a "tree of light," and decorate it with beautiful lanterns, flowers, and red paper chains that symbolize happiness. They cut out red pagodas to paste on the windows, and they light their houses with paper lanterns, too.

Christmas Traditions in England: It is cold, wet, and foggy in England at Christmastime. The day before Christmas is very busy for families in England. They wrap presents, bake cookies, and hang stockings over the fireplace. Then everyone gathers around the tree as someone tells a classic holiday story, "A Christmas Carol." Children write a letter to Father Christmas with their wishes and toss their letter into the fire so their wishes can go up the chimney. After the children fall asleep on Christmas Eve, Father Christmas comes to visit.

Christmas Tradtions in Holland: Dutch children in Holland, or the Netherlands, eagerly await the arrival of Sinterklaas on St. Nicholas Day on December 6. Sinterklaas is a kindly bishop. He wears red robes and a tall, pointed mitre on his head. Sinterklaas travels by ship from Spain to Amsterdam's harbor every winter. He brings his white horse and a huge sack full of gifts for the children. Families celebrate St. Nicholas Eve at home with lots of good food, hot chocolate, and a letterbanket, a "letter cake" made in the shape of the first letter of the family's last name.

Christmas Traditions in Italy: The Christmas season in Italy begins on the first Sunday of Advent, which is four Sundays before Christmas. Christmas fairs feature fireworks and bonfires along with holiday music. Families go to the Christmas markets to shop for gifts and new figures for the manger scene. Some families set up a Christmas tree and decorate it. Families set up their presepio, or manger scene, on the first day of the novena. They gather before the presepio each morning or evening of novena to light candles and pray.

Christmas Traditions in Mexico: The weather is warm and mild in Mexico during the Christmas season. Families shop for gifts, ornaments, and good things to eat in the market stalls, called puestos. They decorate their homes with lilies and evergreens. Family members cut intricate designs in brown paper bags to make lanterns, or farolitos. They place a candle inside and then set the farolitos along sidewalks, on windowsills, and on rooftops and outdoor walls to illuminate the community with the spirit of Christmas.

Christmas Traditions in Sweden: In Sweden, the Christmas festivities begin on December 13 with St. Lucia's Day, which celebrates the patron saint of light. The eldest daughter gets up before dawn and dresses as the "Queen of Light" in a long white dress. She wears a crown of leaves. Singing "Santa Lucia," the Lucia Queen goes to every bedroom to serve coffee and treats to each member of the family. The younger children in the family help, too. The whole family helps to select the Christmas tree just a day or two before Christmas.

How much does a two-bedroom apartment in Vancover?

kamikaze

How much would it approximately cost for a two bedroom apartment/condo in Vancouver?
I'm not looking for anything fancy, but nothing old, slum-like either and the neighborhood should be safe enough to roam freely at night and shouldn't be too far from downtown. I'm interested in Fairview or Burnaby.

What would be the price range for an apartment like that? (to rent and to buy respectively)

Answer
Renting a 2-bedroom apartment in Burnaby will set you back at least $1100 per month. The rents in Vancouver go up from there.
Condos would cost you around $300,000 as a minimum in Burnaby. In Vancouver the prices will be over $400,000.

Do you have any advice for writing a first novel?

Illogicolo

Answer
I do not agree with locking the doors and smashing the TV at all. Life is all about diversity. You have to set yourself specific "office hours". During that time, you write every day for a specific length of time in a specific place. I watch a little TV now and then. I never miss a Yankee game. I go shopping. I do a lot of things. I read daily. If you lock yourself away and do nothing but write, you will not succeed. How can one write about life when one shuts themselves away from it?

Most successful authors follow the "office hours" approach. Hemingway had a little building behind his house in Key West. Every day at the same time, his manservant locked him inside for a set number of hours. You need to determine which hours work best for you. For me it's 1 - 5 am. I have learned to adjust my lift around those hours. I write in the same place every time. This week, I officially moved into my new office in my house. Writing in a bedroom is a really lousy idea - you will never sleep. Finally, I moved my home office out of my bedroom into a beautiful room of my own. You should read Virginia Woolf's essay called A Room of Her Own. When you decide on your special place, it should be a place without distractions and a place where people know to leave you alone. My office is off limits to everyone during office hours. Of course, most people are asleep then.

My other advice to you is not to jump right into the writing. Work on the prep. In the young authors I have worked with and taught, most neglect that phase. Work on your character development. Work on your plot analysis. From there, subplots and backstories should develop. And I cannot stress RESEARCH enough. I recently read a lovely book called The Fig Eater. In the acknowledgments, the author talks about how the book came about. If nothing else, go pick up that book and read that part. She spent NINE MONTHS researching before she wrote a word! But when you read the book, you see how it paid off. You actually can feel you are in turn of the century Vienna.

Lastly, editors!!!! Again, most novice authors think they write a book, toss it in an envelope, send it to a publisher and get money for it. It doesn't work that way. Expect to do at least three drafts of your book. Then send it to a professional editor to be edited. Editing doesn't mean checking your spelling and punctuation. Editors give you margin notes that tell you how to make your book better. They tell you where to trim, where to add, where to speed up, where to slow down, etc. They have been through this hundreds of times and they know what publishers want. They cost between 3 and 5 dollars per page based on 250 words per page, but they are worth every penny. As you begin to write, begin saving for that editor. They will turn a good book into a great book.

Check with my profile. I star all great Q and A on publishing and writing. Many successful authors have posted valuable information here. Go throgh them and find some that are useful to you. Print them out and study them. Check back too, I add more all the time as I read them here. Yours is now starred.

turquoise and silver bedroom!? please help :)?

Sophie

okay so i am 13 years old and i am very into dancing. I decided i am redooing my room! It is a large size room and i just got a new bed. It is a dark brown sleigh bed... not so dark like black but a dark/medium shade of brown. I really like the classy, fancy, vintage, sophisticated fun style rooms. I really love the color turquoise and i think silver is a very rich color :) so i need everyone to help me with like wall colors, accesories, bedspreads, JUST EVERYTHING! TO MAKE my room the BEST and i need all your ideas! so please send me links and just help me! im so confused thankkyou so much! and i do have some sort of budget! so im not trying to be spoiled or anything thanks for the helpp

Answer
I am huge at reinventing my bedroom. I think Silver and turquiose is the best color combo. If you have a window, make sure you dont place your bed near it, place it against the opposite wall, or on the nearest wall. Get a White or Turqoise solid bedspread, Maybe add in some some accents of lime green or black. Use some White and balck curtains, and maybe just plain white plastic blinds. Always paint the walls a darker color than your accents or secondary combo color. So, in this case, paint all the walls turqoise, but scince your secondary clor is metallic, that could be unique color to paint the walls. IF you CAN find a silver wall paint, thats definatley what you should paint it. For the floors, you can either rug it, or keep it a hardwood floor. If you get the hardwood flooring, I'd reccomend using a classic white rug. (Square) Put in various rugs, and find them in all different shapes. If you have a TV, Get a TV stand, or a regular table, and cover it with a silver or black blanket or table cloth. Place the TV on the table AND put a dvd stand on the table. Put the table either across from the bed, or on the next wall over about 6 feet from where the walls meet. Dont place any posters on the walls, if you want the classic look. Put your vanity on the wall where there is nothing yet. Id reccomend the one maybe next to the closet. Use a white set of furniture. Id reccomend purchasing from roomstore. Get a mirror you can hang on the wall, instead of the one thats connected. Make sure there is plenty of room to do your hair and makeup. If you can find one without drawers, then get a roll arond drawer-thing, maybe black or silver. A metallic color. Put all your products in it. AND COSMETICS. Id reccomend buying a beanbag, silver or turqoise. You could get a picture of some ballet slippers, (even though thats probably not what kind of dancing you like) and hang them on your wall. I'd reccomend getting a side table, but it on either side of your bed, put your diary(if you have one) cell phone, remote control and a lamp on it. If you have some empty space, You could get a taller dresser and put it in the corner of your blank wall, or wherever you think is cute. In your closet, you could place the shoes on the floor, and hang clothes above it. Unless you have shelves, then put your shoes on those. Now lets talk bedding, You can get one body pillow, 4 regular pillows, and three decorative pillows. Put two of the four regular pillows nearest to the headboard. put them in a row, then place the other two, the same way in front of them. Then put the body pillow in front of those, then put the decorative pillows in front of the body pillow. You should get silver, white and black pillows. I'd reccomend the decorative pillows to be an accent color like lime green or black, like i said before, The body pillow to be darkest color. Then Get the regular pillows to be white or turquoise. Thanks for asking, hope I helped. Bye!

How Big Should a Bedroom Be?

littlemons

Hi, so my bedroom is approximately 7.75m x 6m.
2m x 2.75m is taken for the bathroom!!! :(
2m x 2.75m is taken for the walk-in closet

I'm going to have a queen-sized bed, two bedside tables.. one large tv.

I have a few problems:
1. I want a bathtub in the bathroom, is it possible? :(
2. I want this vanity (http://www.pbteen.com/products/hampton-vanity-tower-and-super-set/?pkey=cvanity-furniture#viewLargerHeroOverlay) it should be inside the walk-in closet, but i have tons of clothes, the walk-in closet itself is not even enough...

I hate cluttered bedroom.

Is there any possibility to maximize space? My bedroom is too small i know x_x

Answer
You have a VERY large bedroom. My LIVING ROOM is only 6.5m x 23.5m.
Put the vanity (the link you gave) in your bedroom. Also the Queen bed and two bedside tables. Mount the TV on the wall, and if it won't mount replace it with an LED TV.

Do not try to put furniture in your walk-in closet. Your WI closet is too small.
You need to pare down your clothing.
Go through your clothing and get rid of anything you have not worn in the past year. If your closet is still too crowded, get rid of anytning you do not wear at least once a month (except for formal dresses for special occasions).
No one needs "tons" of clothes. That is conspicuous consumption and you need to pare down.

You can put a tub in your bathroom. In a row, against one wall, you can have a tub, a toilet and a single-basin sink.

If you like purples and pinks, find a comforter set first with those colors. Then take your wall colors from it. Here are some that I hope you like:

If you choose a comforter that has another color in it bedsides pink and purple, use that for accents like pillows, throws, sheets, etc.
Don't be afraid to mix flowers and stripes, plaid and flowers, etc. Don't buy everything to match in a set or it ends up looking boring and unoriginal. Good luck and hope this helped get you started!

Parents: children bedroom decor question...?

Jax's Momm

At what age did you get your child a night stand? My son is 2 and does not have one.

Also, do you have 1 night stand or 2? I have been looking on Craig's List and at estate sales for a set for myself and I am amazed at how most are selling only 1! Do I need to buy new to find a matching set, or is the new thing to only have 1?

Thanks!

Answer
Okay, so when I just had my twins, they had a bunk bed with a tent castle thing under it instead of a bed, so Rosalie(who slept on the bunk bed) didn't have one. She was four. Allyson, Rosalie's twin sister, slept on a twin beside her. She did, but she is more of the book reading girl. Now they are 8 and they both have twin beds with night stand, which they have had since they were four, when the quads were born. The boy quads, have a bunk bed, have one bedside table, on the bottom. On the top, there is a shelf. They have had since they were three. My quad girls both have nightstands on there beds. My kids use one nightstand for their rooms, because they don't need two, and then you can push the bed up against the wall and have more room for them to run around.

What's it like to live in Los Angeles?

Me and one of my two best friends plan on moving there when we graduate in two years. I've been saving since I was a freshman. He, luckily, comes from money. We have money too, I just hate asking for any.
What's a good place to stay at where you're very much near or in the city? Perferrably with 3 bedrooms, we want another roomate when we go and our other friend might come live with us.
Well it's a good thing I'm not you.
Can I get some real answers that relate to my overall point to gain some knowledge?

We're moving there no matter how much it may "suck" to some people. I've heard of people going there and loving it. The only reason people don't like it, is because they can't meet people. That's a personal problem that shouldn't affect the city.
That's exactly what we want, the city life.
Yeah, but that's true with any city you go to. It's always going to be dangerous at night. We really like nightlife though and we wouldn't go out everynight, and NEVER alone. We live near Atlanta and it's a DEFINITE mistake to go out by yourself.
Hm actually I've lived there for a year.
Arrogant much?
I'm not 5 years old.
I REALIZE it's expensive. To act like I've done zero research, is completely insulting.
The single thing I'm asking is what it's LIKE. Don't bash on me about obvious information I already know.

Btw- I you're getting a 3 bedroom it's not like you're the single person paying the $3000 or so, you're obviously making it sound like it's really that expensive when in reality you split it three or maybe even four ways. Depending on if you live with two people who share a bedroom or not.

Answer
Good afternoon Meggan,

You know, Meggan, things that are important to me may not be important to you.
http://www.minkler-photo-gallery.com/los-angeles-skyline.html

There is no place like Los Angeles in the world. There is something here for everyone. Whatever you wish to do with your life you can do in Los Angeles. I have tried it all. And the city is continually changing. Most people spend hours each day stuck in heavy freeway traffic while trying to pay high mortgages or high rents. Personally I would go crazy, but most of them fall right in line. They accept this as living.

I slept in my car my first two (2) months in Los Angeles. After paying the high rents for a year, it did not take me long to figure out a lot of people were collecting those rents and living the good life.

So what is the truth/secret about living the good life in Los Angeles? MONEY talks. It is like that all over the world. What is my answer to those who complain about Los Angeles: Donât blame Los Angeles. Politicians control the tax system. The federal and state tax systems are set up for the rich, corporations, and business owners. The average working person cannot live and enjoy the benefits of Los Angeles because of high taxes. Therefore Meggan, educate yourself on the tax systems. You have got to learn to play the game. You have got to have a "hustle" along with your job. By hustle I mean, another job, shooting pool, playing cards, investments in stocks/futures market, real estate, or any type of small business.

A young person can achieve anything he/she wants in Los Angeles. For those who do not wish to learn the gameâ¦.leave.

Meggan, sharing a place is the best way to go for three (3) young people trying to start off in Los Angeles. Try to rent a three (3) bedroom duplex. Check out the (Wilshire West area) area between Wilshire (north) Rampart (East), La Cienega (west), and Pico (south). This area will put you almost in the center of Los Angeles. Fifteen (15) minutes from Hollywood, downtown, two (2) television/movie studios, the Grove, or the beaches. The rents run $2500 to $2700. This is a great/safe area for a big city Atlanta person (smile).
http://www.thegrovela.com/

At 3 am, after partying or listening to jazz a person can drive for a great hot dog, taco, hamburger, or just plain fast food joint. People here are about the same as in Atlanta except they can play the game like a Hollywood script. You will see they drive expensive cars. Many are keeping up with the Jones and many have the coins. You will see more Bentleys, Jaguars, Lamborghini, BMW, Lotus, Maserati, Porsche, Mercedes, Ferrari, and Roll Royce riding down Hollywood Blvd in one day than you would see in one year in Atlanta. Also, know who you are dealing with. Do not befriend anybody. That goes double for Hollywood. Some of these free loaders can smile, befriend, and play you like a cello. Sometimes it can take five years before you see the smoke.

Culture: Gustaro Dudamel is the music director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. He was a kid from Venezuela. The tickets are almost impossible to get. Every city in the world wanted him. He came to Los Angeles because we have the Walt Disney Concert building. Our concert building is the BEST in the world.
http://laphil.com

Los Angeles residents can spend a day driving up the coast. Drive up U.S. Hwy 1 thru Malibu into and thru Oxnard to Santa Barbara. It is one of the most beautiful drives in the world. You will see seals, hundreds of varieties of wildlife and maybe, if the season is right, migrating whales. You can drive all the way to Big Sur to Monterey. This is John Steinbeck's country. He is my favorite author. Fishermenâs Wharf in Monterey has some of the best smoked salmon.

I have walked and camped along the John Muir Trail in the Mighty High Sierra Mountains many times. When Ray Charles sings the song, "America the Beautiful", he sings about purple mountains. There is no doubt in my mind he is singing about California.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sierra_Nevada_(U.S.)

I sometimes visit with a long time buddy high in the Hollywood Hills overlooking Los Angeles. Between the two of us, we have seen almost every city in the world. We sit there with a glass of gold rum/coke with a slice of lemon. We watch the lights below. His words, âLos Angeles, what a city.â I always agree by shaking my head up and down.

I would be happy if I played some small part in you and your friends coming here someday and enjoying my city/home. It is time for me to take my walk at Venice Beach. This is what living in Los Angeles is like for me.
http://www.venicebeach.com/

Meggan, I thank you very much for your question. You and your family have a beautiful week. Peace, from Los Angeles.

How expensive is Los Angeles ?

cabal

I plan on moving to L.A. after i finish the college , but i know that the cost of living there is a bit higher. So you guys who live there can you tell me what would be the lowest rent price (studio , 1 bedroom). Also , some general food prices (like fast-food , vegetables, fruits etc). That would be very helpful.

Answer
Most people who ask this question are unprepared, unrealistic, with no money, no experience, no skills, and no plan.

If you are outside the United States, you will need a visa. The nice folks in the immigration forum can help you with that , but it's virtually impossible unless you have a needed skill (doctor, scientist, A-list entertainter, etc).

You need a plan: First item on the agenda is rent. A decent 1BR apartment in LA currently goes for $1200, give or take. Nicer areas and areas closer to the beach are much higher. Don't expect to move to Santa Monica and get an apartment on the beach for that much. Or Toluca Lake, or Beverly Hills. Unlike many metro areas, LA is unique in that it extends for nearly 100 miles in every direction. There are no open spaces between towns. So the price tends to stay high until you are 70-100 miles from Los Angeles.

Next, you will need a car. Los Angeles is VERY spread out, and train service is extremely limited. If you don't have a car, you will have to take a bus, which takes 3 times longer to get anywhere than a car.

All told, it generally takes about $3,000 per month to live here. If you don't have a job that pays that much or skills that can get you that kind of job, stay where you are. If you are unskilled and work for minimum wage (or for tips like bartending or waiting tables), you'll only make about $1200 per month.

And speaking of jobs, they are rather hard to come by now. College grads seeking employment are having a very tough time of it right now, since the job market is flooded with experienced people who were laid off. Unemployment is over 12% right now. Not exactly the kind of job market you want to move into.

Finally, you will need money. Landlords want first month's rent and a security deposit up front. You'll need money for food, transportation, utilities, etc. The consensus in this forum is that you need about $7500 to start out.

Fast food varies a bit by location. The Big Mac combo costs about $6.50 when you add tax (about 9% or so). The price of produce also varies by location. I an buy a whole pinapple at Costco for $3, or spend $3 per pound at Vons. Same with mik and eggs. Two gallons of nonfat at Costco is about $3.99, or $5 at Ralphs.

So there's your plan. And please don't tell us that you have dreams of being an actor or singer. That sets off another alarm. We already have a million (literally) wannabe actors in this town. Donât even get me started.

If you are looking for safer areas, go look at www.lalife.com and read the maps.

Bedding set ideas for a pale yellow bedroom?

Mallie'sMo

Hi, my family and I are moving into a new house. The bedroom walls are pale yellow (which is fine because yellow is my favorite color!) and I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas for what color bedding sets I could use. I like Zebra, but I can't find any yellow and zebra print bedding. Any suggestions? If you have a website where I could find one, that would be great. Thanks!:)

Answer
Zebra is a print that, I personally think, is better incorporated in smaller ways. The bedding in this room I designed is from Target.

Also, here's a tan zebra print bedding that is neutral enough to mix and match some nice bold colors without going overboard:

Another thing you could do is get zebra sheets. That way, when you make your bed you can fold it down so the sheets are revealed with a nice pop of pattern:

Is Ashley Furniture Overpriced?

nschu91

I haven't been to a store, and they don't show their prices online. I like their furniture, but I was wondering what is the relative range of their bedroom sets, living room sets etc.? Do they tend to be more expensive or are they comparable to say harlem or value city furniture?
Can you suggest some other chains that have quality furniture at a good price? They are hard to come by.

Answer
I love their furniture and accessories!!!
They are more expensive than Value City but, i believe
the quality, styles, and service are worth it.
You can purchase insurance and if you don't use it (make a claim-5 years) you can use it as an in store credit.
They also include delivery and set up.

Of course depending on your budget, style, and needs
this may not be the best choice for you and it is always
best to be thorough in your search before deciding on
anything that you spend your hard-earned money on.
That is exactly what lead me to Ashleys, there were places
that we basically walked through and right back out the door
in minutes.
I had also purchased an end table from Value City
and it was nice and i actually saw some other pieces that i
liked but, really preferred the style of furniture at Ashleys and
Rhodes Furniture (recently went out of business).
Cherry House and Havertys are equally nice and comparable
to Ashleys too.

where can i find a dresser handle?

*nameless*

i just bought a great dresser from havertys (balboa)
and i want a night stand, but the night stand that comes with that collection is too big, so i have to buy a smaller one individually and find some knobs (handles) that look like the ones i already have, the problem is i dont think they sell them in stores, and i want to try finding it on-line, but i dont know where to look.
PLEASE HELP ME!

website for nightstand:
http://www.havertys.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?productId=11407&storeId=10001&catalogId=10051&langId=-1&curIndex=0&resultCount=37

Answer
Please list a way (item number, etc) to identify the night stand from the Haverty's site. The link doesn't work.

As a general comment, matching similar metal finishes is generally thought to be enough of a match for the hardware because a bit of an eclectic look is very much in style. Your decision to use a night stand that was not part of the set is a plus from a design standpoint. Happy decorating! It really is fun to have your bedroom looking new and fresh!
