How much does a baby initially cost?

Q. Like, to start off buying all the supplies...crib, changing table, dresser, diapers, clothes, bath stuff, first aid, maternity clothes, decorate the babies room..etc.

we dont need insurance money..my husband is military.
im thinking around 4,000? the bedroom set i found was 1200...
Yeah, I like Walmart ones too. I also want one of the changing tables that have the bookshelf thing..they look like a china cabinet sort of thing? Do you know what Im talking about?

A. Around $1500-and I have nice stuff. A bedroom set for 1200? The crib I have is from Walmart and was $150 and is really nice. Its all on what you really want I guess. A lot of things aren't necessary.

I just wanted to add a few things:
My little girl doesn't have a dresser as she has a closet in her bedroom for storage and to hang up clothes.
The only furniture we have is a Crib, as a bassinet and changing table also were unnecessary.
We don't have a monitor, as I won't ever be far away from my daughter.
Diaper pails are a total waste of money-do diapers really need their own garbage? No.
We don't have a swing or a bouncer-cute, but not necessary. We do have a high chair that was $90 from Target that was a gift that she can sit in if she needs to.
The travel system I bought was from babiesrus.com and it was $200 and VERY good quality.
The only crib bedding we have is a waterproof mattress pad and a couple sheets, as they don't suggest anything in the crib anymore due to SIDS risk, so that is a big money saver.

Also-Thrift stores/consignment shops are nice for clothing, but don't buy used furniture or anything else there unless you absolutely know its safe.

We received a playpen as a gift and they are nice to have-the one I received was about $70.

I also signed up for coupons at baby product websites-they really help.

What kind of Carpet for the bed room?

Q. I need a new carpet for my room and I want to know what TYPE of carpet is best for a bedroom setting. I just want it to look smooth and feel good and squishy if I were to lay on it. Not scratchy and hard.

A. When shopping for carpet use you hands. They ll tell you what you ll like. There is no "type " of carpet to look at. Carpet comes soft and hard aside from berber, they almost always feel hard to me. Its because you walking on the top of a loop.
Nylons will be the over best bet and buy, and they can come in a very soft yarn system. Polyesters are a softer yarn all together but don t wear as well as a nylon but this isn t a big deal in a bedroom setting.
The type of carpet dictates the padding you get and each of these come in different weights or poundage. You ll have to have a certain weight of pad that ll determine the support each type of carpet gets. Some type of carpets like berbers can only have a 3/8 ths pad and the max you can get for regular carpet is 7/16 ths. But you can get from a 5 1/2 # pad to a 20#. Each offer different softness levels. Again let your feet do the walking over a carpet and pad sample which any store will let you do.

How to remove smell from wooden drawers?

Q. I've had this bedroom set for about 3 years, but it still smells like the prior owner's cheap perfume. You know the kind that floral with a hent of moth ball scent. I have tried washing them, and putting little bags of coffee in them, like you do wih potpourri only better since I can't stand floral smells or anything like that. I've tried febreze but still it smells like musty flowers and moth balls. So what is left to do?

A. There are a couple of things you could try (if you haven't already). If you are okay with the smell of cedar chips, you could put them in the drawers, you could try dryer sheets, air the bedroom set outside on a cool airy day or you also could try washing the set down with pine sol & water.

How do I adhere wallpaper to smooth, lacquer veneer furniture?

Q. I have a (cheap) white bedroom set with a smooth, lacquer veneer finish, that I'd like to put wallpaper on the front of the doors - how do I adhere wallpaper to it? Is it easier to just paint it?

A. You will need to sand the finish with a 220 grit or finer (the larger the number the finer the grit) You can use a pre pasted paper but additional paste may be in order. There are many self adhesive vinyls that are used for shelf liners which may be an option as the adhesive backing sticks to almost anything. If you paint you will need to sand and possibly prime depending on the finish coat color

What else should i get for this setup?

Q. Currently my bedroom setup is a 19 inch Toshiba LCD HDTV with a Xbox 360 connected via HDMI, a Sony VCR/DVD Recorder combo via component cables and a HiDef cable box via component cables. Is there anything else i should get thats under $75? And can component cables carry a HiDef picture for the cable box since theres no HDMI or DVI?

A. component cables can carry an HD 720p or 1080i picture, which is the best you'd be able to view on that set. You wouldn't be able to differentiate 720p/1080i from 1080p, which is full HD, until the tv is upwards of approx 37 inches.

How would you go about putting I-beams under an existing double wide?

Q. I want to block or brick the outside and add a bedroom and garage. I was thinking of using I-beams to support the double wide so it wouldn't flex and it wouldn't cause me any problems with the additions. I would pour a 2 foot footing with rebar and also have piers. How would you go about this since I already live i it?

A. Block walls are heavy, and need a proper foundation. The foundation has to be installed 1 ft below the frost line, or it will heave unevenly.

You dig a perimeter trench 36" deep around the outside of you trailer, and a second trench for your addition and garage. You pour a foundation 1 ft deep by 3' ft wide, with re-bar at the bottom of your trench. You then lay 16" block up to grade. At grade you can switch to 12 inch block with brick on the front. About 2 feet above grade you run your beam down the middle. It is best if you can jack up your trailer 6 inches, and then set it down on the blocks. The trailer frame will act as the sil plate.

Redoing my bedroom! im a 16 year old girl!?

What is the least expensive way and how to have electricity independent of city services for a residence?

Q. I want to set up a house, at first i thought of solar and generator but was not specific enough, totally independent of electric, water ect of city services.
I am in Mexico so plenty of sun, a bit of wind or breeze every day.
Also on a budgeted income this needs to be cost effective.
The house has 3 bedrooms, living room kitchen, dining room and 2 bathrooms.
Made with cement an brick and tile floors.

several fans to cool down the house as my wife is from USA and a mother who is ill that need to stay not too hot.
Mexico actaully is very conservative in energy.
All electric is turned off and unplugged when not in use.
Water heater is not on, (not even a pilot) when not in use, for showers light 30 min prior.
My wife tried this in the states.
it cut her bill down by 7/8th cost of her monthly bills in energy use.
I just want to be able to use a air conditioner or heater without having a quadruple size bill, as if energy is used past a certain point the bill jumps dramatically.
This will insure a happy wife and mother and my pocket left with a bit of change in it too still left.

A. In your area solar makes the most sense, but you could start small and work up. depending if you have any power source at all at this time? Having an alternative energy source usually means you must be willing to alter your consumption of power, sometimes drastically! But the satisfaction of being off the grid is something that is very satisfying! Even when you go without some of the things most other people have.
We started with what was there at the house we bought. A generator. Then we added a solar system. We added more panels and more batteries eventually, and upgraded the type of batteries. If I still lived there it would be great to add wind, for when there is no sun. The property is on a hill, so there is almost always a breeze somewhere! There is also a small water resource, but probably not enough to utilize in a cost effective manner. There are some great Yahoo Groups that deal with this subject matter, search them and have a great time!

I lived with solar power and a generator for seven years... my ex still lives there and the system has been in place since 1989. Still goin' strong... still a viable alternative. It cost the same as hooking up to the grid when we considered how many poles it would take to get the power to the house... then the power company wanted to put a transformer in the front yard. Nope... we said "I don't think so!" and we're still glad we did!

Q. How much should I sell my queen bedroom set?

The set is less than 2 years old and we bought it for $1400. The bed comes with headboard, footboard and rails. A matching dresser(6 drawer), mirror, and chest(5 drawer). A few tiny scratches that can be fixed with paint.
We need to sell cause we're moving out of state soon and we need the money.

A. I have painted a computer cabinet I got from IKEA. It came out fine. If you are not sure, you can lightly sand the furniture, clean it and use primer. The paint should go on very nicely if you do all that.

a 14 piece bedroom set is selling for 799 dollars which includes a queen size bed, a nightstand and dresser and mirror etc..

How do beginning models afford to live in New York?

Q. I was just wondering because I'm going to meet with an agency there in a week. Any advice from other models would be great on modeling in New York in general and what are the top things to do in New York? Thanks!

A. Many of them have jobs at night - restaurants, bars, nightclubs, late shift temp jobs, etc if they don't have rich parents. Just look at the staff of trendy NY bars, clubs and restaurants - every girl working there is at least 5'10" and gorgeous. There are some places like Coffee Shop on Union Square that are owned by 2 former models who pretty much only hire current and former models to work as waitresses and bartenders.

If an agency thinks you have real potential, they may sometimes loan you money to pay for your rent in the model apartment, but then will take it out of your pay as you get booked on jobs. So instead of taking their standard 10-15% commission in NY, they will take out 50% your first few months in order to pay off the debt. Model apartments are not luxurious - they are like dorms with 2 sets of bunkbeds in a small bedroom and a chaperone living there

How much do you think this antique furniture is worth?

Q. I have a bedroom set consisting of a tall dresser, short dresser w/mirror, and nightstand made by Tribond Furniture. I know it is an antique but I am not sure how much it should sell for. It is in excellent condition with all original pieces intact.

I want my Bedroom Emo How?

Q. Okay so im an emo and thirteen years old, and i want my room re-decorated. I need some tips on How to have my room like really emo to set the style of me being an emo but I haven't got a clue on what bedding to have, coloured walls, if I should have wallpaper on one wall, a rug, accessories. So please help me out

A. Here's what I think you should do.

Paint the rest of the walls red. It might also be cool if you painted your door black.

To decorate, put up some posters of your favourite bands. You could also put some cool prints in a simple black frame, maybe stuff like this:

How can I find rugs and decorations that are seen in bedroom displays?

Q. I recently bought a new bedroom set and I'm trying to find the decorations and the rug that I saw on the display. I tried contacting the company but they said they only use the rugs and decorations for "display purposes only" and they don't know exactly where they come from. I'm not too sure if that's true but either way they offered no help. The decorations they have match the bedroom set so perfectly and I can't find them!! If someone knows please help!!

A. I would ask someone else in the store, if you bought your furniture there, ask about service after the sale. Someone knows where that cam from..l Most stores have a designer who does their showroom. Get tough if its really the stuff that will set your room off.

Bedroom theme idea? Opinions?

Q. I'm a girl. Right now my bedroom is green (it was green when we moved in), and has posters all over, and a lot of color. Now I'm really not into all the colors, just a simple black, white, tan, brown, and a sort of yellow, idea. Flower prints, art paintings all over, books, white walls etc. But still a bedroom for a girl. An artsy bedroom idea. And move my furniture around. A. I like the white mod look in the second link. You can set it off buy some hung paintings with bold flower print or a paisley throw. The color could be monochromatic like the minimalist overall look or used as a bright focal point.
