How do I find history or information on the Caldwell furniture company in Lenoir NC?

Q. I have an old bedroom set made by the Caldwell furniture company in Lenoir NC and I want to find out more about it. I have tryed searching but only get up to date information I want to know about the history of the company and maybe pictures of there older pieces to find out if what I have is worth anything. Any suggestions? Thanks

A. Your best bet would be to contact the company and ask if they would be able to provide you with that information. Most companies (though not all) will have some sort of "History of the company" type brochure that they will be happy to send to you. Perhaps in their current catalog.

How to decorate a bedroom with green sheets and black-brown furniture (pictures included)?
Q. Greetings Yahoo! Answers.

My husband and I recently purchased a bedroom set and a gorgeous set of sheets. Unfortunately we have no idea how to decorate this room. The walls are currently a light creamy beige with white faux wood window blinds.

Can you please suggest some painting colors, techniques and other decor ideas that can transform our bedroom into a beautiful and modern/contemporary relaxing escape.

Thanks! :D

A. a rich red/orange wall accent with a nice earth tone brown will go nice on the walls to accent the furniture and beddings ... try imaging the walls in two tone colors.

My friend just move into her new house, and in one of the rooms had similar specs as your's, that's what she did and it looked great, i'm sorry I don't have pictures though...

What kind of paintings for bedroom with simple traditional furniture in light oak?
Q. The bedroom set is plain, but has a traditional oak feel and tri=fold mirror.
Any ideas for an imagery theme, other than roses/flowers?
My man has no particular ideas for this room, so I don't have much input there...
Thanks!

A. A collection of family photographs in ornate oak frames might be nice. Children's artwork can also be framed to add a happy feeling to the room. You can frame just about anything. Frame several pieces of color coordinating fabric and hang in a cluster on the wall. Go to a flea market to scout for old picture frames of various sizes and hang in a group, one inside of the other. Or, take one large frame and hang on the wall. Paint your own picture directly on the wall inside the frame. Check out this web site for more bedroom ideas.

how much is my bedroom set worth?
Q. I have a 10yr old shiny black bedroom set. 6 Drawers with an unique style mirror, headboard and rails, 2 night stands, and a tall chest that has a clothes rack and two drawers on the inside, and the two panels that opens up are mirrors. What do you think I could sale it for? Its furniture that my late mom owned. Thanks in advance for your response.

A. Can you post a picture?

I just downloaded a custom bedroom set for the Sims 2. Now how do I find it in the game?

Q. I just downloaded a bedroom set from Mod the Sims 2, extracted the RAR file, put it in the Downloads folder, etc, etc. But my question now is how do I find it in the game? It's not in the buy catalog. Where do I find it?

A. It should show up in the buy catalogue; sometimes creators put the sets in collections, so perhaps you should look there too. If it doesn't show up I'd suspect that the download wasn't extracted or placed properly, or even that the download was corrupted.

Where can I find good quality cherry bedroom furniture on line?
Q. My style is traditional. I want a medium cherry. I like panel beds, not sleigh beds. But most panel beds are boring... need something with a little bit of curve on sides, not just a big box look. I have looked EVERYWHERE on line and just can't find a bed & bedroom set I like. HELP!! We are willing to spend a decent amount of money for something we are going to love for years.

A. Cherry furniture custom
I can see why you have been having an impossible time finding quality solid Cherry furniture. 99.99% of cherry furniture is a combination of Hardwood and hardwood veneer over particleboard with a Cherry finish. Import is the name of the game no matter who the maker is. There is virtually no large scale furniture manufacturing in America today. One option is custom furniture offered by small craft shops in the mid west. Often Amish or Mennonite shops make very fine furniture in your choice of woods. We have Amish craftsman that can offer Solid cherry with impeccable quality. One group being manufactured for www.barnfurnituremart.com has the curved lines you spoke of that we stock in Quarter Sawn White Oak. These pieces can be made in Solid Cherry to your size specifications and in any piece either bedroom, dining room, or any other piece you would like. The link shows this group with Mission Style handles in Oak; however, we added the Mission handles and changed the wood to turn it into Mission. We can easily use any other styles of hardware.
It is always best to start with one small piece to get an idea of the quality of the shop and you should beware of Amish makers who are Amish furniture brokers. Their prices are higher and sometime the quality is not as good.
We have many customers that fly in to visit our store which has been in the same location for 65 years.

How to add unzipped files into Sims 2 game?
Q. I've unzipped and extracted the files to the EA Games/Downloads folder.. but now I don't know how to add them to my Sims 2 game? Any help?
THANKS SO MUCH!

Also, the files are like bedroom sets and stuff.

A. Once more into the famous canned answer file . . .

First and most importantly make sure you download this file: it is called "CEP" - Color Enable Package v. 7.0 and you can find it at http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=92541
This file is an EXE file and all you need to to is download it and double click on it to install.

Next, find the file you want to add to your game. READ the info on it. Look to see if it requires a MESH file that is not included. If you need to download a separate MESH, make sure that you do this or the thing will not work.

Download the file and the MESH. Remember where you put it.

Unzip, unrar, un7z it into the following folder:

My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/Downloads

If it doesn't exist, make it.

If you don't have Winzip you can find it here:

http://www.download-zone-free.com/winzip/?OVRAW=winzip&OVKEY=winzip&OVMTC=standard&OVADID=1567058522&OVKWID=13322523022

If you don't have WinRAR you can find it here:

http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm

When you start your program the next time it will tell you Custom Content has been found, make sure you enable custom content. Turn off the game then start it again.

Now play, go to your buy mode or build mode and see if your new stuff appears in the catalog. It should.

Have fun.

Any ideas on how to cover/hide a television in a bed room?
Q. I just found a bed room set at Ashley's furniture store and it is amazing. The problem is it doesn't have the matching armior. I was thinking about putting a flat screen tv on the chest that goes with the bedroom set, but I don't want it to be visible. Any ideas on how I can hide the tv when it is not in use?

A. Find a carpenter who can make a small cabinet that would match. It would be similar to a dart-board game style...

Or check with the manufacturer, see if they have a website, and perhaps you can special order the armoir. If you're willing to pay, there is always someone willing to sell.

Maybe, you'll just chance upon a matching article on ebay or Tuesday Morning that can be modified?

Guesstimate of shippin cost?

Q. Can someone give me a guesstimate of shipping cost of shipping a one bedroom: bedroom set and living room set. From Phoenix, AZ to New York, NY (Brooklyn)

I paid alot of money for them and wouldnt want to sell them.

A. The best way to determine the cost is to contact a local moving company. Look in the yellow pages for Mayflower, Allied or one of the others listed under moving and have them come give you a written estimate.

They are also the safest way to move furniture. They are insured and have experienced, professional people to wrap and move your furniture.

why are interior doors so expensive- and where can I get something reasonably priced?
Q. I need 2 different types of interior door. French doors for my bedroom because the doorway is oversized and of an odd size, so nothing else will really fit there, and 2 sets of closet doors- 1 for the closet in the bedroom and 1 for the closet in the living room. The closet in the bedroom will more likely then not have to use the closet doors that run on a track- the ones with the slats in them. I think they are called bifold doors. The closet in the living room will probably have to use this type of door as well, it's another one of those oversized/oddly sized doorways. All the major stores (home depot, lowes, etc.) seem to be asking hundred of dollars for even the most basic door, and I haven't been able to track down bifold closet doors at all so far, though I admit I havent been looking long. Any suggestions on where to go to get reasonably priced doors of these types in Brooklyn NY or somewhere close by? Thanks!
I don't own the space, It's an apartment I'm renting. The landlord may contribute a little or take off some from my rent, but if I go and buy something really expensive he definitely won't cover it. I don't want to spend too much on a place I can't keep, but I need bedroom and closet doors.
Some people say a few hundred dollars for a door isn't expensive. A door is basically a wood rectangle with a hole for the knob, hinges, and some decorative elements added if you like. It shouldn't cost more then a dresser, couch, or big screen tv. I had purchased an exterior door -solid wood, already finished, primed, and painted, and not on sale- at home depot a few years ago for $60. I refuse to believe that your average door is now worth several hundred. If that's the going price then things really are way out of control and I'm going to have to start making my own furniture.

A. I just looked at Home Depot online, and while the doors are a couple of hundred dollars, it's really not that unreasonable a price.

They have a mirror bifold for about $161 - it's really a good price. Here's the link to it. http://www.homedepot.com/prel80HDUS/EN_US/diy_main/pg_diy.jsp?CNTTYPE=PROD_META&IRC=2&searchText=door&CNTKEY=SuperFeatures2/Building_Supplies/PD_Doors_0505&BV_SessionID=@@@@0242893452.1156086882@@@@&BV_EngineID=cccgaddijdjieklcgelceffdfgidgln.0

Here's a plain interior door for a regular closet and it's $118 http://www.homedepot.com/prel80HDUS/EN_US/diy_main/pg_diy.jsp?CNTTYPE=PROD_META&IRC=2&searchText=door&CNTKEY=SuperFeatures2/Building_Supplies/PD_Doors_0505&BV_SessionID=@@@@0242893452.1156086882@@@@&BV_EngineID=cccgaddijdjieklcgelceffdfgidgln.0

I sort of doubt you'll find them for much less. You can check into this "Direct Buy" store (I see their infommercials a lot and have just had them send me a brochure), but I have no idea if they even carry doors (but I'd guess they do).

Good luck.

I'd also be careful about getting items the way some have suggested - if a home is being demolished, there may have been some issues in the home - like termites - and you sure don't want to bring them into your house! Just be careful if you do it that way.

How much home insurance & tax for a cheap studio?
Q. I know 0 about this: are home insurance rates annual or monthly? Could someone give me just a very rough idea about how much a cheap studio's home insurance & tax would cost? (in upstate ny)

A. I don't know about New York but about how insurance works I can give you the 411.
Alright, based on the rates set by the Insurance Commission of your state the price will be set.
Here in NC, a home for, let's say $150,000 in coverage (coverage is the replacement of the home, your personal property, any other structures, liability, and med pay). If you are buying a studio apartment then it will usually cover the personal space, loss of use if ever damaged or destroyed - helps pay for a place to live for a while, personal possessions, liability - helps if you are ever sued for neglegence or detrement of character, and med pay.
Most insurance companies will allow monthly, quarterly, or yearly payments. If you have a mortgage company, most mortgage companies will have a way where your insurance and tax bill can be included into you monthly payment. Here is an example of what a condo policy in my state looks like...........
$250,000 home
Replacement cost $285,000
Replacement of contents $71,250 (this can be negotiable)
Other structures $28,500 (storage buildings/watersheds)
Liability $300,000
Medpay $1000 (incase someone is hurt on your prpty)
Deductible $500 (your part incase of any loss)

Total premium average is around $650 per year

Call around and get some estimates. They will want square footage, bedrooms, bathrooms, entrance, exits, emergency exits, what story it is on, any renovations such as electrical and plumbing within the last 15yrs, how many person that will live in the home, and any pets and what type.
When it comes to tax, look for the website for your local tax office. Your county tax office will usually have a website that may have a tax estimator for the type and purchase price of your studio. If not, they can give you an estimate over the phone. Best to have an idea of how much you are going to purchase the studio for before you do. If you are renting then you will not need any of this unless stated in the contract.
Good luck and sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Can anyone share some ideas to make it more fashionable?
Where should I shop for the furniture especially the bed?

Can I paint the white dresser from the Hemnes collection at Ikea?

Q. I have the bedroom set in white. I am repainting my room white and I want to paint my furniture black. Is it okay to paint this furniture? Has anyone painted this furniture before and can share how it turned out? Please help with any information. Thank you.

A. I have painted a computer cabinet I got from IKEA. It came out fine. If you are not sure, you can lightly sand the furniture, clean it and use primer. The paint should go on very nicely if you do all that.

Have fun!

What is the best color to paint wicker bedroom furniture?
Q. I bought a used wicker bedroom set. It is white and I want to paint it. My bedroom colors are brown and olive green. I thought about painting it dark brown. Should I leave it white? Another choice was a nice green color. Decision, decisions. I need help. What are your suggestions? Will it be too much to paint it a sage. Decorators I am waiting for your reply.

A. IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHAT COLOR ARE YOUR WALLS IF YOU A DARK COLOR, YOU WOULD WANT TO PAINT IT A LIGHT COLOR OR WHITE, AND IF YOU HAVE LIGHT COLOR WALLS THEN YOU WOULD GO FOR A DARK COLOR FOR THE FURNITURE...

How could i make my own bedroom set?
Q. I cant find any good websites for plans or anything:/ i want to sell my current bedroom set and build my own white one with a white bookcase, dresser, nightstands and bedframe. Thanks:)

A. if you are really good with your hands then use your imagination! wood need not be flat for the frames and dressers. think of a log cabin and notice the old ones are made of round wood. my dad has used real cedar and made lots of wooden things. i would sand the place where you strip the bark off leave it natural and then polyurethane it if you want. i have seen many wooden things made. good luck! sometimes the best things in life are free! also, in the old days i do not think nails were even used but do not quote me on that.

How much does a girls bedroom set sell for?
Q. The bedroom set includes a twin bed frame (matress not included), a nightstand with 2 drawers, and a desk with a pull out (for possible computer keyboard) and has 3 drawers. The bedroom furniture is all in white and has been used. What would be a rough estimate on what it would sell for? (craigslist)
Thanks in advance :)

A. Basic rule of thumb is: 1/4 of what it cost when it was new.

The actual cost when it was new will depend on the quality of the wood and of the construction. For instance, are the drawer joints dovetailed? Is it solid wood (and what kind of wood), veneered, or painted particleboard? There is a huge possible price range of what such furniture might cost.

Used white bedroom furniture set, as described. Assume the parents are not wealthy and didn't buy high-end furniture. Probably $100-125 value for the whole lot. Less for damage, staining, chips, etc.

What has been happening in Eastenders with Michael and Jean?

Q. I haven't watched Eastenders properly since Ronnie left, but I watched todays episode. Can someone please explain to me what is going on please?

A. Michael conned Jean out of her lottery winnings and the Vic's money in order to help pay for his wedding, so that Janine cannot make all the decisions.
He tell Jean he's running a youth project for young boxers to help keep them off the streets and that Jean will see a return in her investment.
Janine grows suspicious of Michael and Jean's friendship and is angered when Jean tells her that Michael has actually confided in her about his mother's suicide. She then goes to Michael to see whether she was telling the truth, but he lies that Jean has been lying to her. Jean then invests more money, though Michael tries to put her off as it is for The Queen Victoria's VAT bill. She soon regrets giving him the money and asks for it back, but he ignores her messages and phone calls and then pretends he does not know what she is talking about. Jean is then forced to tell Janine what Michael has done, however, Michael says that Jean is obsessed with him and Janine's unborn baby. He then attempts to turn everyone against Jean by saying she is obsessed with Roxy's daughter Amy, and setting up a bed containing Amy's things in Jean's bedroom. When Kat returns, she believes Jean over Michael and tries to help Jean find proof. After Jean pretends to flush Michael's St Christoper down the loo to get him to confess, he promises he will. He then phones the undertaker and organises a funeral for Stacey which further makes everyone think Jean is mad. Kat then believes that Jean is ill and goes to Michael to give him one more chance to confess. When she tells him that Jean will kill herself if she's sectioned he admits to Kat he took the money.

Does violence in media have a positive effect on our youth today?
Q. any information including articles, websites etc. would be appreciated
thanks!

A. The Academy of Pediatrics says "More than one thousand scientific studies and revies conclude that significant exposure to media violence increases the risk of aggressive behavior in certain children, desensitizes them to violence and makes them believe that the world is a 'meaner and scarier place than it is."

The research literature is quite compelling that children's exposure to media violence plays an important role in the etiology of violent behavior...there appears to be a strong correlation between media violence and aggressive behavior within vulnerable "at risk" segments of youth.

Today, 99% of homes have televisions, over half of all children have a televisison set in their bedrooms; children watch approximately 28 hours of television a week, more time than they spend in school. Typical American children will view more than 200,000 acts of violence, including more than 16,000 murders before age 18. Television programs display 812 violent acts per hour, childrens programming, particularly cartoons, displays up to 20 violent acts hourly.

Do you think it's unsafe for two young women to go backpacking in Europe alone?
Q. My roommate thinks I'm naive to think I could go backpacking in Europe with just my sister. She thinks we should have a man with us, just in case. I think she's paranoid. She thinks we're going to get kidnapped or raped or something. I'm 21, my sister is 26. What do you think?

A. I WENT BY MYSELF WHEN I WAS 18. I SAY GO FOR IT.

Tips

Plan your itinerary give both sets of Parents a copy. Forward to the US Consulates and Embassies so they keep you on file in the countries you are visiting.

Make copies of both your passports. Keep 1 copy in each others backpacks, and leave a copy with your parents. Get a calling card and keep with your passport, and call home everytime you reach your next destination or when you start traveling to the next country or part of the country.

keep your passports in a neck pouch, and extra cash.

I dont know where you are going to be staying but if you are staying in youth Hostels they are pretty safe. They have heavy duty locks. Even on the Bathrooms. and the Bedrooms are same sex only so you guys would be staying by themselves.

Also, Bed and Breakfasts lock down at night in england and you need a key to get into so I felt safe. Dont overdrink or accept the drinks from anyone.

If I can do it at 18 , I think you guys can do it at your age. Have fun !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where can i find teen bedroom accessories?

Q. Good websites to find comforters, night stands, dressers, desks, vanity, lounge chairs, throw pillows, blankets, rungs, lamps, string lights, wall decorations, storage, picture frames, mirrors, decorative cork boards and magnetic dry erase boards, desk accessories? I want to do a zebra and hot pink theme and Im trying to find accessories to match.. Please help! I've already looked at PBteen.com and wakeupfrankie.com, but they're a little pricey... Any othe websites?

A. I'm assuming you've already bought bedding, if not, maybe something like this:

http://www.beyond-bedding.com/hot-pink-zebra-print-full-queen-teens-kids-bedding-set.html

For furniture, try ikea.com - it will be inexpensive and you'll be able to get the night stands, dressers, and desks there. I'd go with either white or black furniture to complement the bedding.
You can also try walmart and target if you are concerned with price.

Wall decorations- The bedding set shows wall hangings which can be purchased at the same site as the bedding (beyond-bedding). In addition, you can buy decorative throw pillows, windows treatments, Funky Zebra Fabric Memory/Memo Photo Bulletin Board, and even lamp shades

Frames - Buy these anywhere. You can get these very cheaply. I'd suggest a $1 can of spray paint so you can change the color of the frames for a customized look (I'd spray a few black, a few white and perhaps a few hot pink - though you could easily paint a zebra design - cheap and easy)

Mirrors - Again, buy the cheapest mirror you can find and custom paint it (Walmart or other discount store). If you must have a zebra print mirror, check this one out:

http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=zebra+mirror&rls=com.microsoft:en-us&oe=UTF-8&startIndex=&startPage=1&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=8249285435254738615&ei=pIckTc7QL8T48Aayo8CGAg&sa=X&oi=product_catalog_result&ct=result&resnum=4&ved=0CDgQ8wIwAw#

Rug - Walmart has several different style choices. Like this one:
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Home-Dynamix-Zone-7160-Zebra-Print-Rug/12087183?findingMethod=rr

Blanket/Throw: Again, walmart has a cheap solution that comes in several colors

http://www.walmart.com/search/search-ng.do?search_query=zebra+throw&ic=48_0&Find=Find&search_constraint=4044

As far as accessorizing goes, keep in mind that a little zebra goes a long way. If you have zebra print bedding, you may want to consider solids for the lounge chair and/or throw and accent pillows. I'd pick up a lot of solids for accessories (black or white vase maybe with hot pink flowers) again, solid colored picture frames. Walmart also sells cork boards. You can paint these or cover them in a zebra fabric (or complementary fabric) and embellish it with grosgrain hot pink ribbon.

Please remember that a cheap can of spray paint can help you achieve the look you are after. Best of Luck.

Does any one currently or in the past has lived at the Al Gaim Compound in Saudi Arabia?
Q. We may be moving there after the new year and I wanted to know what facilities they have and what the houses are like. Are there any other compounds you know of in Taif? Pictures or a website with information would be great!! Thanks!

A. http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g298553-i5680-k1937887-Al_Gaim_compound-Taif.html
http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&client=safari&rls=en&q=al+gaim+compound+saudi&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&biw=1280&bih=664&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi

"Al Gaim" Compound. The compound contains approximately 300 Westerners working for companies such as McDonnell Douglas and Lear Siegler. Housing is close to western standards and consists of two, three, and four bedroom homes. They are fully furnished and carpeted. All of the homes come completely equipped with color TV, microwave, dishwasher, washer and dryer, dishes, silverware, glasses and 110V American standard electricity. The compound boasts a four lane bowling alley, Olympic sized swimming pool, closed circuit TV (6 channels) softball field, racquetball, tennis and basketball courts.

Commissary and Dining. Western food stuffs are obtained, by order, through the US Military commissary in Riyadh and delivered weekly by truck. Local supermarkets also have a good selection and are readily available; but they can be somewhat expensive. Al Gaim residents and their dependents may also use dining hall and snack bar located on the compound.

Even though the houses at Al Gaim are fully equipped, the quality of some of the common items is not spectacular. You should bring such things as an extra set of glasses, silverware, and plates for everyday use and entertaining. Extra pots and pans as well as microwave cookware, and an assortment of "Tupperware" type containers are helpful too. The kitchens do come with electric stoves, refrigerators, microwave, toaster, and blender. Each house is provided with linens, but their quality is not the best, so consider bringing your own also. The beds are standard queen size in the master bedroom, and twin size in the other rooms. Don't forget to bring your favorite household decorations, paintings and pictures, Christmas tree and decorations, along with favorite knick knacks to give the place a feeling of home. Bring all of your electronic gear, stereo, computer, etc., for entertainment. Don't hesitate to bring the cabinets/shelves for them either. The biggest drawback to the houses is their lack of storage and shelf space.

How high should I price my Bedroom set?
Q. I have a bedroom set that I'm looking to sell, I want to get as much out of it as possible, but don't want to over price it. Included is a fairly large night stand, with 2 drawers, a long dresser with 7 drawers, and a bed frame that could either be queen or full.. but I would include my queen mattress and box frame. All is in good condition, the only thing that's wrong with it is there's a small ring on the night stand. I'm pretty sure it is the Thomasville brand, I know it is a name brand, but it's in storage and I cannot remember which it is.

A. go to craigslist and look at what other people are selling there stuff for and look at the pictures too - it should give you an idea of what to sell yours for and then you can post and sell yours on craigs list for free

love that site !!!

A. Have you ever tried the online service called freecycle? You list what you have for pickup and then you list what you need and look at the other listings to see if others have also listed those same items.

No one pays on either end of the deal. It works great if they have it in your town or a nearby larger town.

Good luck!! : )

What are some nice affordable furniture stores?

Q. I want to buy a new bedroom set at an affordable price. Nothing more than 1500. Any suggestions on furniture stores/websites in the Dallas tx area? Thanks!

A. i dont know what you have out there in texas but have you tried walmart or target? i know its like "ew why would i get my stuff there?" especially if your a teen into brand names, but they're stuff is really good and low priced. not so much target but at walmart you can get EVERYTHING to match. you could even have the bedroom and if you have your own, bathroom to match! check it out;) http://www.walmart.com/

TIP:
if you have a small bedroom, look at some loft beds. i have one in my room and my floor soace literlly DOUBLED from getting one!

where can i get some furniture at a discounted rate?
Q. just moved into a new house and i dont have alot of money to spend but i definitely need a good bedroom set for my daughter and i at a reasonable price. i live in baltimore so if anyone knows of any places i would appreciate it. thanks in advance...oh also if you know where i can get some carpet from too that would help as well.

A. Craigslist is your best bet! I'm not sure how many people sell on Craigslist up there, but here in Dallas it's like a gold mine. People are selling perfectly good furniture at garage sale prices. It's hard for me not to want to buy it all!
Also down here the Salvation Army and Goodwill have furniture. A lot of older furniture is better anyway because it's solid wood and doesn't have the formaldehyde and bad chemicals that the new "fake wood" furniture has. Good luck!

Is it illegal to throw 20 small pebbles at someones bedroom window in Dallas Texas and than leave the scene?
Q. Every night at 11:00pm 4 hooded children come by my driveway and throw 20 small pebbles at my bedroom window, and than run away. I want to know if I have the right to prosecute.

I know because I counted. From the dates of May 28th 2012-Present.

A. Is it exactly 20 every time? Is it some kind of ritual?

Me? I'd set snare traps out near the driveway, dress up in a wolf skin and paint my face with blood-red war markings, and have a bonfire all laid out and soaked with gasoline so I could tie them up and scare the bejeezus out of them with a pagan ritual of my own. Court is boring.

Also.. if you get the police involved they'll redouble their efforts to make you miserable as soon as they finish their ten hours of community service.

How much to move from Boston to Texas?
Q. So I've been saving up for a while now, but I've been curious as to what would be a safe amount to get myself established in Texas? I've been looking at moving to Dallas, and what are some pros and cons of that city?

I make a living as a photographer/cinematographer here in New England, but I feel like opportunities in that would be more abundant in Texas. Would this be a good move?

A. Guess it depends on how much stuff you'll be bringing with you. Rents and utilities you'll find to be a good deal cheaper in Texas than in Boston. If it's just you, you want a decent 1 bedroom apartment you'll find one for around 800 or 900 a month, and can find them a good deal cheaper, say down to the 450 range but recognize those will be in problem areas. So figure you'll need first and last months rent, with another month's rent as a security deposit so have 3 months rent set aside for that. Utility deposits aren't much, won't be over 100 bucks to get your lights turned on, less if you have very good credit. Same for cable TV, internet, telephone, etc. Bringing furniture with you or buying when you arrive? Prices on that vary a lot of course but if you're buying here and doing it on the cheap you can find living room and bedroom sets on craigslist for about 500 bucks each. Doing a quick add in my head, you can get all that done in a decent apartment for about 4000 bucks, set aside another 1000 for incidentals. You can make the move on 5 grand and get yourself set up in pretty decent shape. You'll need a job pretty quick though if you intend to keep it.

I might want to move to new york city?

Q. okay well here is the background.. i'm a down home country girl from the south.. i've been to new york city a couple times. but i really want to move there and go to college there. but i really don't know the cost of living what type of job i'm going to have to get.. or anything.. if some new yorkers could help me out that would be great. or anyone that knows anything about it!.. thanks ya'll!

A. This question was asked before by someone like you. Here is the answer I gave to that person:

NYC is expensive even for middle-income people. Most likely you will be living in Queens or Brooklyn. Manhattan is full of rich and poor people.

Monthly Bills and Expenses (2008 dollars)

Studio Apartment: $1500.
Utilities (gas and electricity): $150.
Subway/bus fares: $124 ($4/rountrip for 31 days).
Food: $300.
Life Insurance: $50.
Clothes: $60.
Miscellaneous: $200.
Total: $2384

That means you must make about $2384 per month after taxes. Or you must make about $28608 per year after taxes.

A lot of people do not make that much money when they are starting out in their careers. That is why a lot of young people are staying with their parents or sharing an apartment with a roommate. New York is not cheap but this is approximately what you would need, as a minimum, to live comfortably. Just as comparison, it would cost approximately $350,000 (before taxes) for a married couple with one child to live comfortably in a two bedroom apartment (Queens or Brooklyn). $350,000 is not a lot of money in New York City.

Sure there are other places that you can live cheaper but there is a huge trade-off and it is usually not in a better neighborhood. Crime is still a problem in poor and lower middle-income neighborhoods. I dont think you want to live in a housing project or a subsidized home.

New York City is approximately 440 square miles (land and water) and is broken into five boroughs Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, Staten Island, and Queens. New York City is not just Manhattan, it is all five boroughs! It is an insult to New York City residents when people say the real city is in Manhattan. Again, the real city is all five boroughs.

New York City has real people who are from all over. This means they are no nonsense people. Most of them are not mean spirited or evil but they have to go to work or school and do not have the time to play mind games with people.

With the exceptions of some police movies and TV shows, there is no TV show or movie that accurately portrays NYC life. They are just for fantasy and entertainment.

Dont expect a lot of things to happen to you for the better. New York City is that way; it forces everyone to be direct and upfront with important things. Go to school with the intention of learning and trying to do the best academically. You are not going to school to socialize, find a boyfriend or girlfriend, looking cool in attitude or fashion, or even just partying. You are going to school simply to learn. You will find out that most of the students are transient people to you and could care less if you are popular or not.

If you have that mind set and dont expect a lot social gratification then you will do fine in the City. If you end up with one or two friends then you are doing okay.

But New York can be intimidating so dont get upset or depressed. People at first seem cold and uninviting. But after awhile you will see decent people who are just trying to make a living. If you ever move to Manhattan then try exploring the other four boroughs where the real New York City residents live. That alone will surpass any night life Manhattan has to offer.

how can I find an apartment so I can work in New York City?
Q. I want to find an apartment, so I can commute (public. trans.) to NYC to work! I'm having more trouble finding a place - than I am a job in NYC. some good areas (safe, affordable) for a single female near NYC to commute to work?? I would mostly like a place that's in a complex if that's possible too....
*what areas or cities in NJ do you reccommend?

A. I just had to deal with this myself. I just graduated from school and am moving to Brooklyn this week. Where you end up really depends on what you define as affordable. I'm starting a career on Wall Street and while I'll be pretty broke for a few years I can still afford more apartment than an newly minted English major. The rule in NYC is that your MAXIMUM month rent is 1/40th of your gross annual income (i.e. you need to make AT LEAST $40,000 to afford $1000/mo).

Brooklyn studios run $900-$1100 depending on neighborhood and proximity to subway lines. 1 bedrooms are $100-$200 more expensive than studios. Manhattan will have a premium of a few hundred dollars over Brooklyn or Queens depending on neighborhood (i.e. there are cheaper places in northern Manhattan in the Upper East Side and Harlem).

Brooklyn and Queens are about the same price but Brooklyn is a more convenient to Downtown and Queens is more convenient to Midtown.

As a rule of thumb, Staten Island sucks. I know nothing about the Bronx, except that it's 200 block from Wall Street so I don't care.

NJ is interesting because you can take the PATH train into Manhattan to WTC which is a huge subway hub. Look at Jersey City and Hoboken. New York City also has it's own income tax within the 5 boroughs so that also makes NJ attractive, however you will be more likely to want a car to get around so it's a trade off.

In NYC proper apartments "in a complex" will more likely be highrises with doormen and amenities like pools and you will pay for them, trust me. I'm living in a brownstone in Flatbush, Brooklyn a few blocks from the Q train which can get you to WTC. It's a studio and it's $950 with some utilities. The commute to work is probably 30 minutes.

In terms of actually getting the lease signed, you can look on Craigslist and avoid using a real estate broker. I tried that but most places were a little more ghetto than I would have liked. Being an out-of-towner I ended up going with a broker who charged a commision, but they were extremely helpful, showed me excellent choices in my price range, gave me neighborhood information, helped with finalizing the lease, etc.

If you are set on a highrise look at NYBits.com to find building managers. If you contact the management directly they can put you in an apartment and avoid a broker altogether.

Look on the New York Times website for brokers and properties. Look on Craigslist if you are feeling more adventurous and thrifty. Avoid the Village Voice because it's all spam. Look at OnNyTurf.com for an interactive subway map that acts like Google Maps, it will help you see where apartments are in relation to subway lines.

Finally, the NYC real estate market is very deep and very efficient. In nearly every case you pay for exactly what you get - neighborhood/environment, transportation, building, and apartment. I also recommend a roommate if at all possible. It doesn't help all that much to make the square footage cheaper but a full compliment of utilities for 1 person is a total waste. My cable/internet is TOTALLY bare bones, 10 channels and broadband, and after extensive comparison shopping it's still $70.....you'd need a lot of gaming to make that worth it.

new york in summer, electric bills?
Q. for a one bedroom, small apt, with a window unit, what does the eletcric bill usually run in summer?
I mean NY as in manhattan, queens, brooklyn. I know it's humid and you probably have to run it day and night, whats the average bill like? mine here in Ca for a one bedroom in summer runs from $66 to $100.00 especially in July and August! winter it's as low as $16 to $18.00
our temps right now are over 100 degrees lately. this is a hot summer!

A. If you want save money on your electric bill:

Purchase items that have the "Energy Star" label for TVs and Air Conditioners.

When you are running your air conditioner, use a timer to set how long you want it to run and set the thermostat to 72 degrees. Leaving it on all day and especially when you are not at home can run up your bill. Also when the temp is less than 80 degrees, leave it off.

Turn off unnecessary lights in rooms that you are not in and use FCL's lights instead of incandescent bulbs, they last longer.

If you need more energy tips, go to the ConEd website:

New York City or Chicago?
Q. I have to live in one or the other and I am honestly TORN.

New York is great, but VERY expensive.
Chicago is wonderful, but has a lot of crime on the west and south side especially.

I am so torn, it is stressing me out!

A. New York is wonderful, but I have no experience with Chicago, so I can't help you there.

New York may be expensive, but it is definitely affordable. You can get pretty cheap apartments in any borough that ISN'T Manhattan (and even there, if you go to the not-very-popular locations, it's not that expensive).
Brooklyn is alright, but my favorite borough is Queens.

If you have a job there, it's guaranteed to you, and it pays a decent amount, it may be worth it to move to New York. Get an apartment beforehand (and make sure water is included with the bill & heat is a nice bonus) and have your job set up, and then move.
If you move in with a roommate, it's even better. Instead of paying $1200 for a one-bedroom apartment, you could split the rent and pay $800 for a two-bedroom apartment (if the rent is $1600, for example).
You will need to rough it for a while if you're low on cash because your job doesn't pay well. If you're sure your financial situation will not improve and you don't think you'll be able to afford NYC, don't move there!
However, it is the experience of a lifetime, and there is always something to do, so see what you can do about it. (:

Chicago, though, is obviously a great city, and I've heard so much about it. You wouldn't miss much if you chose to live in Chicago over New York. If you could live more comfortably there than New York, you should choose Chicago.
Crime shouldn't worry you. Crime is everywhere. In New York, certain parts of The Bronx, for example, are an almost guaranteed mugging if you're walking there alone around midnight.
*But NYC is pretty low in crime compared to a lot of places, which usually surprises people.
Just avoid the areas around Chicago that have a higher rate of crime, and I think you'll do fine.

Good luck! I hope this helped! (:

Attention Mommies: Your best tips for organization for a mommy of 4?
Q. I have four kiddos ages 5 and under, and my house drives me crazy! Any of your best cleaning/organization tips would be great.... and also, I already know about Flylady, but I'm having trouble with her system. Any tips would be great!

A. I hope I can help you, I am a foster Mom and have 12 nieces and nephews and lots of family in and out through out the week, so messes seem to come with the amount of feet in and out the door. I know about Flylady, Home Organization, Cleaning Queen, and who ever else you can think of. I had piles of cleaning, organization and clutter buster books, and the art of feng shie. You name it, chances are I have it or read it or got it at the library. Here are my best tips for getting on top of things, these are the gleaned, condensed and just plain learned the hard way stuff. Get a timer and a box. Set the timer for 10 minutes and grab the box, simply walk through the house grabbing items you hate, do not like, broken, or stuff you already have 10 of. Into the box. When the bell goes off, tape the box shut and A. Throw it in the trash B. Put it in the car and next errand run, drop it at your charity box, C. List it up on Freecycle or Craigslist and give it away or ask for a small amount of money. D. If money is the issue, take pics and put it up on Ebay and sell it, pack it and send it to someone else to dust! Continue doing this, in addition to your "cleaning schedule". After a few days of doing this, you should have just stuff you LOVE LOVE LOVE or NEED NEED NEED. Now look around, do you have items Aunt Selma gave you, and you were gonna re-paint, but never did? GET RID OF IT, give it to a friend, Freecycle or Craigslist it or set aside a time this week to paint it, fix it or whatever to it, otherwise, out it goes! You have 4 kids? Well, even at the tender age of 2, kids can understand a few basic rules. One toy out, one toy in rule. If they get a toy out, they must return it to get another one out. They can pick up stuff from the floor and hand it to you. They can "help Mommy", THEY LOVE HELPING MOMMY do stuff. They can sweep, they can dust, they can pick up. You can have them HELP with laundry, they can learn to fold clothes with you, as you show them how YOU want it done, or if you do not care, they can FOLD THEIR OWN and put it away in THEIR own drawers. You can have them HELP you load the washing machine, maybe put the soap in YOU measured and so on. This is not CHORE, this is fun for them, if you MAKE IT FUN!. The rewards, if you need to use them, can be, "if you help me clean the porch, we can paint some birdhouses", they can help lay out newspaper to protect a surface from paint, get the paper plates, and so on, they can also help throw them out when you are done. Once I got down to things I love love love and need need need, I found I had less to dust, less to fixate and get upset cause it was taking up space and I still had not fixed it painted it or whatever and just got mad at myself for letting it suck up space and walk around it, I found I could get things done a little quicker, cause the space was opening up. I found some things that were important to me, I do NOT dig filth and was not willing to let my standards down for cleanliness for dishes, clothing, floors and MY bedroom. I could however, give two figs about WHAT the kids drawers looked like, as long as the clothes WERE clean in them, their clothes were NOT on the floor and that at least twice a week I could see a clean floor in their rooms and that the kennels.....uh....er....rooms, were swept, hosed (mopped) and in general CLEANED. Same for bedding sheets. I want them washed once a week, I don't care if they slept on TOP of the covers (as one tried to explain to me as her reason for NOT bringing her sheets down once a week) no DEAL! They come down, even if NO ONE slept on them! LOL! Clothes come down daily into the laundry room. We don't do "Can I have my white t-shirt with the little roses in an hour" routine, when you have 10 other little white t-shirts you can wear instead! If you want it done for tomorrow, then it should be here in time for the next load of whites 2 hours ago. Now the kids I have here, family included, now range from 6 to 20, but I have had them from the day they were born. As soon as they can walk, we make with the "helping". We want kids to "help", we encourage, we reward and we make it a rule! Sometimes, the kids get lazy, try to get over, or just plain don't want to do it. No problem! They don't get to do the fun stuff either, no baseball, no movies, no crafts, no library and so on. HEY! I shouldn't have to do all this myself, I had help making the mess. I have learned to SHOW the kids and HELP the kids when I want something done a CERTAIN WAY!. Like I have this thing about towels, so normally, I FOLD THEM MYSELF! Now the kids know, if they are GOING TO HELP, they need to fold the towels in half, then in half and then in thirds, otherwise, leave them to me, which, sometimes, they do, and sometimes, they do it and give me the "look what I did!" and for that, I GIVE PRAISE, I resist the urge to NIT PIC, as the towels are folded how I like, so what its not perfect, let it go and move on. The things I do not let go of are CLEAN! The dishes must not have food particles on them, no soap residue, and they must not be holding water. One kid couldn't get the idea of adding PRESSURE to pots and pans and dirty dishes, until after a few weeks of being on dish duty, I offered her the plate of MY CHOICE for her to eat off of. I picked one she claimed was cleaned, I ask if she'd eat off one I picked if she thought they were all clean, sure, she said, ok, HOW ABOUT THIS ONE? Uh....no? Well I said, "I don't want to eat off of it EITHER, so now, you wash it again, and then you will eat off THAT plate, clean or dirty!" Now it may sound a little mean, but she TOTALLY got the point! I didn't yell, I didn't punish, I just offered her to eat off ANY plate I picked, and if she was cleaning them, she should be SURE it was clean enough for her to eat off of it, if she thought I was gonna eat off of it. All the sudden, those dishes were clean! Some is also, getting in there and helping them. Some kids simply don't know and we forget, they haven't learned it yet! A good "How about I "help" you with your room today?" and DO IT, and tell them, this is how I want you to clean this, scrub like this, wash this that way and put this over here and take out your trash in this bag, WHILE THEY ARE DOING IT WITH YOU! It can be fun, I talk about school, friends, an maybe talk about clothes, I may even get a little fashion show of what do you think about this with that? Its quality time together AND a chore getting done completely. Now this isn't something you do EVERY DAY, but here and there, you do it. I have 2 days a week that we are dealing with trash. One is on Wednesday, as the trash goes out Wednesday evening and is picked up on Thursday. I empty the fridge of compost and guess what this Was? That way it isn't stinking up the trash cans all week. Then on Saturday, all the trash cans are emptied again (minus fridge waste) and put in the bins outside while we have our push for clean floors, laundry, kitchen, bedrooms, and bathrooms. Now during the week, daily, we have a dish chore, a floor chore for the kitchen, dining room, butlers pantry and living room. Those floors must be swept, mopped or vacuumed daily. I like the bathrooms cleaned at least twice weekly for the kids, my own, I am picky, so mine is one little chore daily, but on Saturday, anything I missed and a wash down top to bottom. Beds are weekly, clothes and laundry, as a load forms (whites, light colors, dark colors, towels). Hallways are weekly and throw rugs as needed (usually once a week to 2 weeks, depending on how much use and filth shows up, once they LOOK dirty, up they come and on to the laundry). The kitchen is wiped down daily, but a total wash down of counters, stoves and so on is on Saturday. I pick one to two things a week to tackle, such as a closet, organizing a corner of the basement for the gardening, bicycles, tools, Etc. I may wash down the cabinets in the kitchens or a bathroom, empty a linen closet, empty a drawer. Using the timer is a good way to get into this habit. Set the timer for no more than 20 minutes, do not answer the phone, invite no one over. Empty the junk drawer in the kitchen, sort it, throw stuff out, dispose of dead batteries, file it, whatever. Timer goes off, be done! This one worked really good for me, because I would accomplish SOMETHING that was needing to be done and it was something small, but in the end, had a big impact as they added up, one at a time! If you can fit in one afternoon a month, to say, clean out the garage, fine. If not, go corner by corner for 20 minutes at a crack. You can organize one section, one shelf, one drawer in 10-20 minutes. Add it up and at the end of a month, its all done! If you have a zone that gets on your nerves, just give it 10 minutes, grab a box, fill it with stuff that doesn't belong in there, put it where it belongs. Next time, grab the duster, run and dust everything you can in 10 minutes. Next time, empty a drawer and so on. Get a schedule and determine what days you will have free time to say tackle something more extensive, and plan something FUN afterwards. Like cleaning out the garage, a basement, the attic. Spend two hours on it with the family, everyone HELPS! Kids can carry, kids can put this on that shelf, they can be great little gofers and picker uppers. If you have rooms that aren't that important right now, let it go, for now, deal with it when YOU WANT to. I think half of the problem with getting organized and staying clean, is the feeling we must do it all in one day, and the simple fact is, it didn't get dirty overnight and its not going to get DONE overnight either. RELAX! Do it in baby steps, just work on the stuff that giv

A. Highly doubt it, unless there is a promotion going on or something

Where to buy a new Bedroom set from ?
Q. I would like to buy a new bedroom set. Bed, Side tables, Dresser, mirror. Mattress would be extra King Size would be great.

Would you buy from Art Van, Gardner White, Direct Buy, Value City, Cost Co, Sam's Club ?

Is furniture made with quality these days ? What are the brands that you think of when you want to buy furniture.

Budget ~ $3000 includes king size mattress.

Your thoughts and guidance.

A. Many of those stores will have complete bedroom sets that will hit your 3000.00 budet. Go shop and find the one that appeals to you. If you are confused as to which company is best then check them out on the BBB to see how they service their customers. http://www.bbb.org/

What would be the proper etiquette for this situation?
Q. So, my husband and I are going to look at a bedroom set off Craigslist this afternoon. It includes the mattress. I want to try the mattress out and everything but I don't want to look like a weirdo considering it is in their private home. So, since I've never done this before, I was hoping for some words of advice...Should I just feel the mattress with my hand? Ask permission to lay down on it? Just *hope* it's comfortable and wait until I get it home to try it out? Please Help!!

A. I'm with Therese and Suri (1st poster)--

IF you can at all afford it right now, grab a new mattress; or, alternatively, one from places that have fumigated the still-good used mattress and vacuum-packed it-- (often agencies dealing in social services know of such places)-- But-- with all the knowledge we have of diseases--viruses, we have no idea who is carrying what--and not to sound gross or nasty-- but let's be real-- how much clothing is worn during sleep (never mind other possible activities), so how much skin cells (ie-- bed-bugs, tiny microscopic nastiest) are filling the mattress.

BUT, if you're bound to purchase this bed;

Ensure you SEE the mattress--itself-- box-springs and top--- no bedding-- you need to see what you're really getting-- do you want something that might have stains (and who knows how they came to be there?) on it: then know forehand-- Never forget-- in private deals like this-- it's "buyer beware" !!

Without being rude, do tell the sellers you want to lie down on the bed, (but have a flat-sheet tucked into your purse-- DO put it on top the mattress before you lie down; it's a subtle way of playing with their mind-- they'll pipe up and say something to defend why you needn't worry-- which provides you with an opening along the lines of "oh, so it's been professionally steam cleaned and you can guarantee I can sleep naked on the mattress? Then watch their faces-- listen to any catches in the voice-- that's body-language telling you if they're hiding something and about to lie-- If they hedge-- ask for proof-- and then toss in something along the lines of being willing to overlook that if they drop the price 150 bucks-- :-)

Make sure you check the framing too-- no hidden cracks where it'll give when you sit/lie. As regards the actual night stands, chest of drawers and dresser, do a thorough check on the smooth workings of the drawers and hinges-- check the backs of things to see if there are any cracks-- look at the levelness (or lack thereof) of the inside of the drawers-- (the bottom--heavy items will have warped the drawer, a pain to open and close for you, right? )---- check for any black or white flecks of something-- it could mean some small bug droppings-- which means-- eggs.

DO payattention to the overall way the house is kept, that'll give you an idea of how the bedroom suite/mattress has been kept-- ask if they still have the receipt for the mattress, so you get an idea of how much life there still is in it.

When you settle on a price-- do get a steam cleaner from the grocery store-- clean the mattresses and buy a mattress cover, just to be on the safe side. All the best ~~

How much is reasonable to spend on a bedroom set?

Q. I'd like a queen panel bed (no need for a boxspring), a new queen mattress and a matching dresser. I'm trying to stay under $700. Any suggestions on how to stay within budget? I dont think I'll find what I want at a garage sale, and things like Craigs List dont have much in my area.

A. Well, getting all that for that price isn't going to be easy... Your best bet is WalMart or KMart. Other than that, I suggest you look at classified sections in your neighborhood. You could even find a notary public who could tell you where to look for estate sales. Sometimes, you can pick up a really nice bedroom set for peanuts, meaning you can spend a bit more on a quality mattress... as I wouldn't buy the mattress used. And if worse comes to worst, then you can get yourself a mattress at WalMart. They have some pretty neat ones that come in a rolling box and have a memory foam top.

What are some tips when rearranging/redecorating a bedroom?
Q. Tomorrow I will have a brand new queen sized mattress in my bedroom, and it has inspired me to want to redecorate my room. I have already painted my walls and my I have a decent amount of furniture already (I'm not really fond of it, but my mom says it has to stay). My taste leans to a more contemporary style.

A. Get some graph paper and lay out how you want your room, remember to be as close to scale as possible (this means each item - wall, door, window, bed, etc. - has to be in proper size relation to each other). You can make each square one foot or 6 inches or 18 inches or 3 feet - whatever works for your design (smaller numbers work better for accuracy).

Once you know where you want your bed, desk, chair(s), vanity, or whatever you may be putting in your room (in regards to furniture), decide what you want to focus on and what colors you want. Choose one or two main colors, any additional colors (not required) would be for smaller items or accents. Try to get colors that go together or pick several shades of one color, if you prefer.

Make a list of what you want before shopping to ensure you don't go crazy with impulse buys you'll just be cluttering your room with (and emptying your wallet for, needlessly).

Bigger items work better for drama than a bunch of little items UNLESS you have them matched in some way and they are set up in some pattern (3 or 5 candles, vases, matching wall hangings, etc.) instead of just thrown together or scattered around. Things can match by shape, color, fabric/material (e.g. all woodgrain), etc.

Keep the amount of (or lack of) space in mind when shopping to ensure you don't crowd your room too much.

Those are just some ideas to start.

Do all Queen Size beds come with box springs?
Q. We bought a bedroom set today, but it didn't have a box spring. Do they usually come with box springs or not. And by the way we got our bed from CrossRoad.

Thanks!

A. I would call CrossRoad and ask them. When I purchased my mattress I had to purchase my box spring for it.

What is the difference between a full and an oversized twin?
Q. I plan to buy a comforter set in an "oversized twin" but i have a full bed. Will it still work?

A. Hi
It can be more difficult to find bedding for an extra long twin bed. In stores, these extra long sheets are easier to find at the end of the summer, during back to school sales. You can also find sheets for an extra long twin bed online.

Some suggest using an extra long twin bed in a guest room. If you purchase two, you can push them together and create a king-size bed. Keep in mind that if you do buy an extra long mattress, you will need a new bed frame to go with it. Most mattress stores will include a new frame for little or no cost with the purchase of a new mattress and box spring.

If an extra long twin bed is not what you are looking for, there are many other mattress sizes available. A double bed, also known as a full, is another popular choice for a guest bedroom or a small apartment. These are 54 inches by 75 inches (137 cm by 190 cm). Some couples find them uncomfortable and too small for two people.

The most popular sizes for couples are queen and king size beds. Queen beds are 60 inches by 80 inches (152 cm by 203 cm). Standard king size beds are the widest available at 76 inches by 80 inches (193 cm by 203 cm), and the longest beds available, California kings, are 72 inches by 84 inches (182 cm by 213 cm).

Hope this helps

What are some good ideas for a boy's and girl's crib bedding set?

Q. I have a boy who's 18 months and a girl who's 3 months. They will be sharing a room, and I wanted to decorate their rooms as a set. For instance, my husband and I thought of Peter Pan & Tinkerbell, Mickey & Minnie Mouse, Dora & Diego, Princess & Prince, or Princess & Knights/Dragons. I'm still undecided and would like some suggestions. Let me know your opinions, and if you can think of any more boy & girl bedroom sets please let me know. Thank you!

A. How about something that would work with both..bumble bees/nature that sort of thing to have a calmer looking room.
You have covered so many, I cannot think of any pairs without dating myself..pebbles and bambam, alvin and the chipmunks have girls on them but dont know their names,

Girl and boy sharing bedroom decorating advice?
Q. My two kids. are 7 year olds and will be sharing a room. One a girl and one a boy. What are some cute bedroom sets that will go together well or were meant to be together, that will look great in their room.

A. I wouldn't go with a theme, I would make it colorful, like paint the walls and have neutral curtains and light fixtures but I would be sure that they each had a shelf or some kind of storage to call their own that they can have their things on. I would keep the bedspreads the same color but put pillows and little touches that are different on the beds. For example, a red ladybug pillow for her and a red car pillow for him. The ideas are endless in my head right now. I'm sure you'll come up with something great and they'll love it. Take care.

Is a white bedroom suit to childish for me?
Q. I have been interested in a white bedroom set, but everyone seem to expect me to want a wood one (eg: cherry, maple, oak.). I'm 14, is a white bedroom set truly to childish for me?

A. Not really, you are still pretty young after all but a white bedroom set isn't exactly childish anyway. I know some people in their mid 20's that have white bedroom sets just because that happens to be what they like. One girl I know, almost all of the furniture in her apartment is white or some kind of off white color. If you like it then don't worry about what other people think about it.

Want pink teen bedroom furniture?
Q. I am desperately searching for a cute pink bedroom set for my teen girl. She is obsessed with pink and ONLY wants a pink bedroom set. The only problem is we can't find any pink bedroom sets ANYWHERE. The only ones that we find are for children. HELP! Does anyone know of a place that sells pink bedroom sets for teen girls?

A. my daughter wanted pink and green.....yeah I couldn't find the colors that she wanted so I painted her exsisting furniture and I made her curtins. I painted 2 walls pink and 2 green sounds horid but it turned out really cute. What ever wall the furniture is on it got painted the opposite color(pink wall -green furniture)

What shipping option should I use on Ebay for large items?

Q. I've got 2 teen/children bedroom sets: 2 beds, nightstands, dressers, and matresses. When I first listed the items, I put them up for local pickup because shipping would probably cost a lot.

A. Shipping items like this are very expensive. In addition they will need to be boxed. I would suggest Craigslist or Backpage.com locally.

How much will it cost to hire a moving company?
Q. I will possibly be moving approx 50 miles away and wanted to know about how much it would cost to hire a moving company? It would basically be everything I have; living room set, bedroom set and the remainder of my items. I don't have any interest in doing it myself as many of the items are just far too heavy for me to move. I am trying to get a general idea for budget purposes. Many thanks!

A. 50 miles is a local move. You would need to find a local moving company that will charge you by the hour.
Check out this website, it has a lot of useful info: www.losangelesmover.org
50 mile move with 3 movers and a truck should not cost you more than $80-$100 an hour. It also important to know the size of your household.
1 brd usually 3-4 hours min, 2 brd 5-6 hours 3 brd 8+ hours.
If you wanna save money find a reputable local movers, big companies will give you flat rate, but it will be 2-3 times MORE expensive.

How do I write a contract for someone who wants to pay a deposit and then pick up the items later, Craigslist?
Q. I have a bedroom set and some sofas. The people want to pay a deposit and then pick it up in 1 week. Where can I find a contract? Also, what if they get injured while moving the furniture up some stairs we have here. Should I include something about this in the contract?

A. First be sure that this is a real deposit and not a scam one. There are a lot of scammers out there that will offer to pay you a deposit with a little overage and then you give them the overage back and turns out the entire check is no good. In case you don't get what I mean read http://www.howtobeatcraigslist.uni.cc and check out all the scams they have listed there, it's just amazing the stuff people will do.

I was thinking of bringing my bedroom set and tv but am open to selling it.
Thanks!

A. its expensive!!so,i would sell everything and purchase new once i got down here.It costs an arm and leg for gas guzzelrr uhaul and then to rent it.
Not worth it.....
keep your prized possessions at grammas/moms and sell everyhing else and use to purchse new once you are here.
Good luck!
ps if you really have a desire to run an ad in paper and see if anyone is headed down this way.at times guys come here to work and drive huge trucks and would appreciate 200 bucks to use on gas to bring it down...we have tons of military in this part of fla and i know guys who do drive home to see family etc and came back w empty truck i was never brave enough to do it.

What is the origin of the words kingsize and queensize?
Q.

A. To better appreciate the minimal king size platform beds; consider a brief history of its evolution, and that of its American cousin, the mysterious box spring.

The Egyptian pharaohs of 3500 B.C. were the first known people to sleep on dedicated pieces of elevated furniture. Before that time, king size platform beds were essentially portable all-too-organic constructions of straw, leaves, fleece, or animal skins spread out on the hard ground. In Europe, king size loft beds werent common until the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries and seventeenth centuries; stationary but adjustable, their king size platform bedroom sets and wooden frames held grids of ropes that could be tightened as needed.

Queen Mattress Dimensions Around the World?

Americas, New Zealand, and Australia - queen size standard is 60x80 inches

Latin America and Continental Europe - queen size is 63x79 inches

Norway - queen size is equal to 2 single or twin mattresses at 60x79 inches

United Kingdom and Ireland - queen size mattresses are also called standard doubles and are 60x78 inches

A California queen, most often found in the U.S., is 60 inches by 84 inches, offering more length for taller individuals. Simmons, a mattress manufacturer in the U.S., makes an Olympic/Expanded Queen size bed that is 66x80 inches. It's primarily a novelty bed.

King size platform beds suspended sleepers over a cushion of air, which was far warmer than a cold, damp floor. It kept floor dust off the king size bedroom furniture, bed linens and discouraged pets and critters from nesting. Height also made it easier to change bed linens and climb in and out of bed.

The earliest modern king size beds mattresses were simple sacks of straw or down, and eventually of cotton and wool. But in 1871, industry spawned the innerspring mattress, a bouncy entity filled with a field of vertical steel coils; its companion, the box spring, was invented soon afterward.

The box spring literally is a box: a wood frame king size platform beds with drawers holding a series of heavy steel coils, upholstered with an outer layer of foam and fabric. Its purpose is simple: to ventilate the king size platform beds and lift it to a convenient height. Manufacturers claim that it also prolongs the king size leather platform beds life by absorbing some of the sleepers weight and movement, and they insist that each king size platform storage beds be supported by its companion box spring and no other. If you buy king or queen size platform beds without its box spring, its warranty is invalidated.

About how much does a queen mattress set cost? never bought mattress before, thank you in advance?
Q. i got my bedroom set about 12 yrs ago, its still really nice but i want a new mattress set, im not into brands, just want the average mattress, someone is selling a queen set for 350 and since ive never bought mattress before i don't know if im getting ripped off. thank you so much in advance

A. A good one will cost several hundreds if you are very very savvy, to $1000 and up. Anything less, and I would look verrry carefully at it, you could regret it quickly as the quality is likely to be poor.

Go to your library and look up Consumer Reports Magazine back issues, look for their past mattress buying advice article. They tell what makes up a good mattress, usually higher coil count =more firmness. Comfort is a personal preference.

If you need just a mattress (and not a set), or don't care that they match, you can find those in mis-match sales or end of season sales (they change the fabric).

I am not a fan of foam mattresses, pillow tops, or any kind of anything padded extra, as you can add more but you can't remove it if it is part of the mattress, something I regret with the tempurpedic-foam mattress I have and hate.

I got this bed frame with storage underneath for my teen's mattress, and it holds it at the height of a normal bed-with-box-spring. It is very firm, and can make up for a poor quality mattress because it is SO firm, but you may not want that as it sounds like you already have a bed frame? I include info on it because some folks use this frame with a latex foam mattress (all foam like sleep number/ temperpedic, etc.) and say a platform like this is all they need (no boxspring). Read the reviews for more info from folks who have that type of foam mattress. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Slumber1-Bed-Frame-Twin-Full/10151232

How to find Harry Potter Interior bedroom decorating?

Q. How to find Harry Potter Interior bedroom decorating in the USA?
Hi, I have a question for anyone who can answer this question. I am redecorating my room to be a Harry Potter theme and I live in the U.S.A . So far I can not find anything, and this computer is a desktop in a different room and I do not have a projector. My question is where can I find

1. A Harry Potter wall mural either from the Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, or Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix movies.
2. A Harry potter Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter in the Order of the Phoenix or in the Goblet of Fire bed/quilt set w/sheets for a single bed.
& 3. A table and bench-chair set that looks like the desk from the movie in the Transfiguration classroom from the first year at Hogwarts. If anyone knows where I could find any one of those things and that the location is in the U.S.A. please let me know. Thanks. Bye.

(This was origanally asked by Singer_In_Training, but it sparked my interest, so I decided to post it again) (But mostly because my room will be Harry Potter themed)

A. Well that's a really cool theme. My friend had a Harry Potter themed birthday party so she printed out A LOT of paper bricks and kinda made wallpaper out of it and it looked really cool so she actually kept a part of her wall still "bricked". I think you should try searching online for that kind of stuff or maybe try Mugglenet.com for a whole harry potter website and maybe they have some stuff. Another thing you could do is get a whole bunch of posters and stick them to your wall. Your best bet is to order these things online. I would highly doubt there is a store that actually sells Harry Potter table sets and things like that. However, if you're willing to spend some money you could customize tables to look like the props in the movie.

I am decorating a new bedroom and need help with the color scheme.?
Q. I know that I want this pendleton blanket on my bed, I am thinking of having a yellow (like a butter or as the company store calls it "sunshine") duvet cover.

Here is the link to the pendleton website:

http://www.pendleton-usa.com/product/Home-Blankets/Blankets/NATIONAL-PARKS-BLANKETS/GLACIER-NATIONAL-PARK-BLANKET/166372/pc/1816/sc/1839/c/1821.uts

I'm having trouble deciding what color duvet cover to get to go with this blanket. I don't think I want a white one as I've had a white one for the last 4 years and I'm sick of it.

Please let me know if you have any ideas as to what colors I should be thinking about for the rest of my room as well. I really want this blanket to set the tone of the room. I have a wooden dresser that I want to paint and I'm not sure what color to choose for that as well...I don't want to get carried away with too many busy and bright colors!

A. I hope I saw the right blanket ( 2 bear silhouettes & primitive drawings of tee-pees?)
It's beautiful; but why do you want to cover it with a duvet cover? It 's beautiful all by itself!

Use the colors in the strips of the blanket as a source for the rest of the room. Paint the dresser green. But don't stop there. Change out the drawer pulls. to carry the outdoorsy theme. This site will privide you with an excellent selection
http://www.blackforestdecor.com/locahaca.html
I'm coming to the conclusion that you are an outdoor woman. The pendleton blanket is very masculine. Soften the totasl look by adding a few toss pillows in a varitety of colors made with fake fur, browns, greens.
Paint your walls a soft yellow shade . The site I provided carries a wide selection of home decor; lamps, rugs, etc. cruise around a little for inspiration and ideas.

What do you think about this joke?
Q. A Polish man married an American girl after he had been in the USA a year or so and, although his English was far from perfect, they got on very well. One day, though, he rushed into a lawyer's office and asked him if he could arrange an immediate divorce for him. The lawyer said that the speed of getting a divorce would depend on the circumstances and asked him the following questions:
LAWYER: Have you any grounds?
POLE: Ja, Ja, an acre and half and a nice little home with 3 bedrooms.
LAWYER No, I mean what is the foundation of this case?
POLE: It is made of concrete, brick and mortar.
LAWYER: Does either of you have a real grudge?
POLE: No. We have a two-car carport and have never really needed one.
LAWYER: I mean, what are your relations like?
POLE: All my relations are in Poland.
LAWYER: is there any infidelity in your marriage?
POLE: Ja, we have hi fidelity stereo set & DVD player with 6.1 sound. we don't reaslly like the music but the answer to your question is yes.
(continued)
LAWYER: No, i mean does your wife beat you up?
POLISH: No, i am always up before her.
LAWYER: Is your wife a nagger?
POLISH: No, she white
LAWYER: Then why do you want this divorce?
POLISH: She going to kill me. I got proof
LAWYER: What kind of proof ?
POLISH: She going to poisen me. She buy a bottle at drug store and put on shelf in bathroom. I can read, it sais 'Polish remover'

A. lol thats funny 10/10

What is this Donald Sutherland movie?
Q. I remember watching it in the early to mid 90's but I never caught the name of it. I'm not sure if it was made around that time or a bit earlier, but this is all I remember: This woman hands him a paper that she had drawn something circular on it. I think it has something to do with some sort of clues in the movie. I know it's not a comedy, it's more of a suspense type. I have asked this question several times but I don't seem to be having any luck. Can anyone please help me on this one? I'd really like to see it again.
It's not "Younger & Younger" or "The Italian Job". I remember the movie always looked gloomy.
