Need Bedroom decorating tips?

Q. My bedroom is 19.5 x 16.5. It faces NE with two windows overlooking the street and the park. I get some light in the AM, but after that it's kinda dark and on the cool side - especially in the winter of course. I have hardwood floors and a pewter toned metal king sized bed. I'm thinking of going with light colors because it is so dark, but I can't find any inspiration. I'm not the neatest person and I read a lot in bed so there are always books and mags around.

Any thoughts on color schemes? Websites -other than HGTV?

I could really use some help here.

A. A nice color for the bedroom would be a warm taupe - like "emerging taupe" by sherwin williams:
http://sherlink.sherwin.com/swapp/color_visualizer/index.jsp

It sounds like you definitely need an area rug to warm up the room a bit, too. I would get something in wool in taupe, beige, brown or burgundy. Heaps to choose from here:

I love this one:

With relatively neutral tones for the rug & wall color, you could do just about anything with your bedding. You could stick with a monochromatic color palette with taupe, tan, ivory, beige or brown:

http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Halifax-Tan-9-piece-Comforter-Set/2560043/product.html

Or you could have a more romantic flavor with taupe, ivory, burgundy or deep purple.

Or cool & contemporary with taupe, sage green & blue:

Good luck!

I want my Bedroom Emo How?

Q. Okay so im an emo and thirteen years old, and i want my room re-decorated. I need some tips on How to have my room like really emo to set the style of me being an emo but I haven't got a clue on what bedding to have, coloured walls, if I should have wallpaper on one wall, a rug, accessories. So please help me out
Peace XD

A. Here's what I think you should do.

Put black and white striped wallpaper on one wall. thick stripes might look cool, like this: http://www.wallpapershop.com.au/store/image.php?type=T&id=159
Paint the rest of the walls red. It might also be cool if you painted your door black.
Get cool black and white bedding. I think this would look great: http://www.tillys.com/tillys/variants.aspx?cid=1111&ctlg=020_Girls&prod=128177150&rank=1&size=-1

To decorate, put up some posters of your favourite bands. You could also put some cool prints in a simple black frame, maybe stuff like this:

And maybe some plain black or white curtains.

Rent a house between Ft Stewart and Savannah, GA?
Q. I am in the military and I am on orders to report to Fort Stewart, Ga in August. I am looking for rental property between Fort Stewart and Savannah, Ga. My wife has a job set up in Savannah and we are looking to rent a house somewhere in between. We are looking for at least 3 bedrooms and have a medium sized dog and a cat. If anyone could point me in the right direction, I would greatly apreciate it.

What is the cost of living in Fiji?
Q. What kind of a yearly salary would I need to live comfortably in Fiji?

A. http:// icsc.un .org/resources/pdfs/2004/hsg/ fiji-04 .pdf recommends a monthly income of $5, 758 .92 to live in Suva the way someone would typically live in New York (not Donald Trump, just a small 2 to 4 bedroom house or apartment). That would mean an annual income of $69, 107 .04.

However, if you move to the smaller towns or lesser islands, shop at local markets rather than supermarkets, grow at least some of your own food, are willing to settle for part-time electricity from a generator, and so on, you can live on much, much less. $30,000 would a luxurious income in the boonies.

According to one article on living in Fiji, the capital, Suva, offers apartments and houses from $250 to "luxury" flats and homes ranging around $3500. It also says that sometimes, if you let the owner know you plan to live at the residence for a long time, you can work a deal.

Food is expensive in the capital - There are a couple of big supermarkets that feature imported foods and products. The price is high. Almost $4 for a head of lettuce or cabbage from New Zealand or Australia.

You also have the traffic, noise and crowds in Suva. On the positive side, there are the government offices and the American Embassy and you get to mingle with mostly professional expats at the happy hour bars.

You can also consider living in other parts of Fiji. On the other side of Viti Levu, the main island and biggest of the group, is Nadi (Nan di), the jet city, called this, I imagine because it's where the airport is. There are night clubs, a good supermarket and a small community of expats. Suva on a smaller scale.

Lautoka, the sugar town, is north of Nadi, and called the sugar town because of the large amount of sugar cane farms and the ever present sugar train shugging through. It's also a seaport town and some cruises leave from here.

Lautoka is quieter and slower than Nadi. A quaint place where you can find lace mosquitoe nets and unique pots and early century kitchen do dads that can only be found here in second hand shops. Rents are cheaper. Not many expats.

Coming back down southeast of Nadi but still on the west side of the island is Sigatoka (Sing ga toka), a small one road town. It was a one bridge town before hurricaine Sina (1992) destroyed half of it. It was one lane with a stop light on each end. Traffic going to Nadi had to wait until traffic going to Suva cleared. The government was building a four lane bridge when I left.

Sigatoka is the last city before going into the interior or "salad bowl" as its called. Thats where the majority of the vegetables on the island are grown. The Sigatoka market is great though Saturday is best. You can buy three heads of cabbage or lettuce for fifty cents. A bunch of bananas for fifty cents, bunch of string beans for the same price.

Basically there's nothing to do in Sigatoka but in Korotogo (koro tongo, named after the village) there's a couple of ma and pa Indian run stores, friendly locals and a few expats. Let it be known that I spent five years in Fiji and never ventured further than Korotogo. I went on a few tours but I haven't seen anymore of Fiji. Plan to though, on my next trip. The Reef Hotel is located here on the coral coast as the area is called. It has a nice restaurant and a great bar for afternoon drinks or night dancing. Coral coveres the beach but there are plenty of spots to sunbathe and the ocean, protected by the reef, is clear and great for swimming. Or just sit on the beach and watch the sun set.

Fijians are mostly Methodist and don't go to the beach on Sundays. You may find a few Indian families and some tourists. Mainly, you will have it to yourself.

For $300 a month, you can get a three bedroom unfurnished flat with a large fenced yard. These new flats are about seven years old. They have hot water and lots of flowers and fruits trees in the yards. These are in Korotogo on the backroad. If you plan a long stay, try bargaining the price down.

About getting a job, the article's author says:
"Getting a job in Fiji is almost impossible. I lucked up and got a teaching job. I taught high school English in the interior. Thlis was after I had my degree sent down. They want to see the original. They did provide me with a free two bedroom barely furnished house. We had a generator that came on for a few hours at night. No hot water, outdoor non-flush toilet (a big hole with commode over it). I did manage to save some money and really got a chance to mingle with the locals and see the Fiji tourists don't see.

At present, there is more of a need for accounting, science and math teachers.

To start a business, you need a Fijian as your partner and permission from Immigratin. You may also be asked to deposit $1800 as bond. (If all fails, they want you to havae airfare out). Their approval could take from a few weeks to years.

If you just want to work there, you have to have some skill that a local doesn't and you are to train them to

How do I price items for a yard sale?
Q. I have what I consider to be a lot of "high ticket" items. Bedroom furniture (entire set), end tables, bedroom dresser, vanity, bedding sets (which originally cost $150), expensive sweaters, etc.

What is considered "fair" pricing?

A. If you really want to get rid of all of your stuff, price it to sell...that means at such a bargain that a yard sale shopper will buy it just because its a great deal...don't forget that this is used stuff...you should depreciate it in your mind first....a used bedroom set could have cost 1000 dollars new, but used...sell it for 200 dollars and someone will buy it, if its in great condition....Your bedding sets that cost 150, should go for 25-30 dollars...its all used and yard sale mentality....You could also start at a higher price and go lower if someone is interested, but feels its too expensive....If you want to get rid of the stuff.....price it low!!! People do not shop yard sales to pay Walmart prices for used stuff, even if its high end....they can go to the bigger discount stores and get it new.

How to make my large bedroom seem smaller, cozier?
Q. My bedroom is huge. I have usual furniture in it-- dressers, a twin bed, couple pics on the wall, etc, but it still looks too big! What can I do to make it look cozier without doing something major, like painting the whole room? Please note my apartment is rented, so i can't make any major, permanent changes.
I do have curtains and blinds in my room-- the usual stuff.

A. Painting isn't all that major, when you move, just prime and paint over it again, to the original color. It is the most impact for the money. I would go with your fav rich color, something like a dark neutral, like a charcoal gray or a caramel color, or a jewel tone with a glaze to make it shiny and transparent colors.

Window treatments, go BIG. Sheers across the windows, scaled to size and maybe a little longer than usual, but expand the look of the windows with the second layer. Use sexy touchable fabrics like chenille, velour, etc in a rich color, go higher than the window, across the whole window wall, or set up panels to tieback in between windows.

For furnishings, some ideas:

Bigger furniture pieces, esp if you can get a bigger bed. If you can't change the size, at least make it give a bigger impact. You can put the bed on a platform, or make a grand headboard to give it a bigger scale.

You can make good use of the space by setting up zones for other tasks in the room. It doesn't have to cost a lot. Some ideas: Allow generous room between zones so that the

A sitting area with a chair and/or couch, ottoman, reading light, a bookshelf.

A vanity area, maybe just a card table (dressed up with a table cloth) and a stray, simply designed dining chair (dressed up with a pillow case and a tassel like a slipcover). Use inexpensive baskets to store your makeup, perfumes, and hair products. Lighting is important here, if you can put it by a window, also include a lit makeup mirror.

A dressing area with an ottoman to sit and put your shoes on, maybe an old dressmakers dummy to model your fav coat or dress when you aren't using it. Include a full length mirror, for big impact, get a big one in a frame and lean it on the floor.

An exercise area. Outfit it with a minifridge to put bottled water in, maybe a coat rack to hang your towel and rolled up yoga mat.

An entertainment area, with TV, stereo, dance area, karaoke machine, stereo system, whatever. Add appropriate seating if you need it. A bench, some cute folding chairs.

An office, writing, art, craft, or other creative space.

Pick a few of these according to your interests and assign them places in the room perhaps a corner for each, with sensible neighbors of each group, for instance, maybe your dressing area is set up in front of or near the closet door, and next to that, you have a vanity area. Create boundaries and flow with furniture placement and rugs.

Whats better keeping the air conditioning at a constant temp or up and down when I leave and come home?

Q. I live in Las Vegas, I typically have the temp at 73 at night, 76 during the day, and 79 when Im out and about.... Is this better ( money wise) then typically keeping it at 75....

A. I used to work for a utility company in Arizona, which was a partner in major studies about AC efficiency and power consumption.

It's generally most energy efficient to change the setting only if you want it to stay at that setting for six hours or more. A programmable thermostat can really help. Allow an hour for the AC to cool the house to the desired temperature.

Maintaining an overnight temperature of 73 is really upping your power consumption needlessly, though. You might find that closing off the bedrooms and running fans, moving around the air you cooled to 76, keeps you just as comfortable.

With a 5 month old baby what do I keep the tempture at?
Q. I have a 5 month old baby who gets cold easily even though he's dressed warmly he still manages to remove he's blankets and he was cold all night,I was wondering what tempature do i keep my home now that's it's winter we live in las Vegas so it hits 40 degress at night and 60 in the day.

A. The book What to Expect the First Year says room temperature for baby should be between 68 & 72 degrees. My house is odd. I set my thermostat at 72 my bedroom gets to 74 at night while my baby's room would get down to 64. We had to get a cool tough ceramic heater for her room to run at night and keep it warmer in there. You don't want it too hot b/c it increases the chances of SIDS, but too cold and baby will get a cold. Get a cool touch heater with it's own thermostat on it so you can set his room where it needs to be. A 5 month old should not be sleeping with blankets due to suffocation hazard. Dress him warmly and get the heater. Best solution.

What is the best way to pass your time when you are free after a long struggle for something?
Q. Hey Friends!
I just made my way into a medical college after an arduous struggle of three LONG years. Finally I have got a month or so before the start of new classes. What to you, is the best way to pass these days? Should I read Books about Medical ? Should I just hang around? Should I read books about self development? Should I develop myself physically?
What should I do?

A. I think three directions are good and can all be done.
1) Typically in studying many long hours, diet, sleep patterns, and exercise often goes into the low priority mode. First, start getting a good night's sleep. Set up your bedroom for nighttime to be quiet, dark, cool temperatures, fresh good bedding and start aiming for 8 hours sleep for a while. Once in med school, that in going to fall apart again, so try a good pattern. Everyone should improve their diet and exercise, and now is a good time. I advocate a good one-a-day vitamin like Twinlabs, Centrum, or similar. Give up the low nutrition foods. Look for high fiber, low fat, low sugar, less processed foods. No diet soda or highly sugared soda (try seltzer/club soda with a splash of juice in it). Reference my answers here:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ak1xjD5Hg2tCAxdzUL1IGrPty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20111009143834AAivxwe
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ArSjjf14Ad41ZoUH0xsW3tvty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20111002115254AApgzoo
And, yes, at your age it is relatively easy to build body tone, so work out also a few days a weak. Aim for alternating days.
2) Everyone has things they enjoy doing and put off. Whether it is camping, hiking, bike riding, a vacation away (I live in Las Vegas - great for the over 21 age vacation), a hobby to try like painting or other media, photography, or any other, find what makes you happy and spend some time doing it. It is only going to get much tougher later.
3) Prep for the future. Learn a little about managing personal money and finance. Get out and meet new friends of both sexes. Is it time to start a relationship or solidify a current one? Possibly check through what your first set of coursework may be, but do that lightly.

So passing time? That is easy to do. I retired from work and still keep busy. Avoid the TV and open up to real life. Reading books, medical or otherwise - only if there is a book you would enjoy, and I personally don't read much more than browsing a newspaper and keeping up with online articles and a few magazines. It is too time consuming. I hope you like my thoughts to self-improve AND have some fun in a time break of a month AND look just a little ahead.

What are some really good ways to go green?

Q. I already turned off everything in my bedroom, planted ten trees, I don't take any longer than 15 minute showers, I raised salmon...Any other Ideas? Oh and I recycle as much as possible. Thanks!

A. Going green is easy, there are so many great resources about the subject. My personal favorite is "The Green Book" which has parts of its book online as well at www.readthegreenbook.com.

As I have been striving to "Go Green" I realize it is like stepping back in time without getting rid of my modern conveniences. I'm doing many things I learned as a child, like line drying my clothes, sweeping instead of vacuuming, opening the windows in the morning to catch the cool breeze, only buying what I need instead of everything that looks cool, growing some of my own food, and canning what I can't eat now.

To me "going Green" is a frame of mind. Do what fits your lifestyle and do the easy things first, it is a process and like dieting if you go to radical to soon, you are more likely to go back to bad habits. I also believe there are good, better, best choices in most things. If you aren't ready to start a home garden, then try finding a farmers market, until you locate one look for produce grown as close to home as possible and go organic when available.

Many people think "going green" is expensive, I disagree. Some changes may take an initial investment, but they usually have a short payoff time. Things like weatherstiping and insulation cost, but the energy savings will add up quickly. You may need to purchase reusable bags, but most stores give you a 5 or 10 cent credit, so you are paid back within a few months.

My top tips are make your home more energy efficient, that also means using natural light, cooling and heating.

Reduce your packaging, if you eat more fresh food you will generally reduce packaging, it's the same thing they tell dieters, shop the perimiter, that is where all the meat, dairy and produce are located. Only buy what you will use, many Americans throw away a lot of unused food. Buy in bulk, that doesn't just mean large packages, but that area with the bins that you buy only what you plan on using.

Replace disposable items with durable items, if you eat outside often and use disposable paper or plastic plates, it is a wise investment to purchase a set of reusable plastic plates. Replace disposable razors, diapers and cleaning products like swiffer. Avoid bottled water, get a home filter like Pur or Brita.

Recycle, www.earth911.org will help you locate the nearest recycle center. I try to only purchase plastics that are #1 or #2, they are more easily recycled. I also buy recycled products when available, that includes paper towels, napkings, toilet paper, tissue, school/office supplies and clothing.

Detox your cleaning, vinegar and baking soda clean almost anything, they can even losen a hair clog. Seventh Generation and Method are a couple mainstream brands that are very earth friendly.

Just start small and build from there, don't get overwhelmed.

What are some things that you wish you did when building your new house?
Q. building a new home. want to make a list of things to do to make sure we are not forgetting anything or just some ideas that we may not have ever thought of :0)! hoping to get some info from others that may have suggestions for a checklist as far as things to do: decorating, logistics of house plan, where to place outlets, etc.....help!

A. When building our house I tried to take into consideration that I intend to die in this house, and make sure that as we grew older and were less able to get around, we would still be able to enjoy our home. We put the master bedroom on the first floor and made the floor plan as barrier free as possible. We also made the doors slightly wider so if one of us ends up in a wheel chair, it would not be an issue to get in and out of rooms. We also set up an intercom system so we wouldn't have to scream to hear one another when on opposite ends of the house, and so in a slightly sneaky way, we can hear our children and their friends when in the basement.

What is the cheapest way to red-do your bathroom ?
Q. Our home was built in 1959 and it has the orginal tub, walls and sink and medicine cupboard !
The toilet was changed back a few years ago ( 2 ) .......
We want to move the wall over approx. two feet over because the bathroom is so small

Any suggestions on what to do first ?
We have a full-size standard tub

A. You should get a set of plans drawn up, is the wall load bearing? if it is you may need an RSJ (rigid steel joist) if that's the case you'll need to inform building control.
Make sure you know what you're doing or get a builder in, you could end up with your roof in the bedroom, you don't want that happening!
If all goes well and you can just rip the wall out the cheapest way would be to put up a stud wall (wooden framed wall) and plaster board then skim it.
The plumbing would be best left to a plumber, you don't want the joints popping apart under the bath and bringing your ceilings down.
If you've got an old cast iron bath the scrap value of that will help pay the final bill, the rest is easy.
Make sure the wall isn't load bearing first tho, that's likely to be the hardest and most expensive part of the job.

I want to redo my room help!?

Q. ...unfortunately my entire room has like a lightish pink carpet ...and removing it would take way too much work

so does anyone have any websites I could go to that helps coordinate wall paints and colors or just suggestions in general on how to make a classy modern bedroom with a light pink carpet =/

I'm 18 and enjoy the bedspreads on urbanoutfitters.com if that helps anyone with the type of taste I might have

any websites with great bedspreads would be great too! just help ah! thankyou!!!

A. I think you have the right idea. Find a bedding set you love that has a little pink in it and it will look like the carpet was intentional and then you can take your other colors from the bedding and color match them for walls and chose matching accessories. I'll see what bedding I can find that you might like.I realize some are not like those at urban outfitters but I'll post them and you never know you might like them..

These are a little pricey but I don't know your price range so I'll include them...

who sings the song emily?
Q. it really old

A. I think you may be referring to the 1974 hit "Emma" by the group Hot Chocolate.

We were together since we were five
She was so pretty
Emma was a star in ev'ryone's eyes
And when she said she'd be a movie queen
Nobody laughed
Her face like an angel
She could be anything

Emily... Emma ... Emily
I'm gonna write your name high on that silver screen
Emily... Emma ... Emily
I'm gonna make you the biggest star this world has ever set

At seventeen we were wed
And worked day and night to earn our daily bread
And ev'ry day
Emma would go out searching for that play
That never ever came her way

You know, sometimes she'd come home so depressed
I'd hear her crying in the back room
Feel so distressed
And I'd remember back when she was five
To the words that used to make
Emily come alive

Emily... Emma ... Emily

It was cold and dark December night
When I opened the bedroom door
To find her lying still and cold up on the bed
A love letter lying on the bedroom floor
It read: Darling, I love you
But I just can't keep on living on dreams no more
I tried so very hard not to leave you alone
I just can't keep on tryin' no more

Emily ... Oh, Emily ... Emily

Glad to be of help. Cheers.

Dream Interpretation: What does this dream mean?
Q. Ok, the dream is like two separate parts. Sorry it's so long.
Part 1: Me and my friend Jacob are standing on top of this old Egyptian type palace dressed in Pharaoh and princess garb. He was telling me how it could all be mine if I just except his advances and stop teasing him with my revealing clothing and become his queen ( *shiver* ). Denied to be touch by another man for the rest of my life. I shock my head and ran away from him. Leaving him there with a look on his face that was a mixture of disappointment and pain. On the other side people were still building the palace and a small child was wondering around looking lost. I went to the child and kneeled down to his height and began talking to him. Asking him where his mother or siblings were. The boy had the exact same hair color as me because it looked coppery in the sunlight, the same ivory skin tone as me also and beautiful big dark chocolate colored eyes. He just smiles at me saying something in French ( I'm French on my mothers side. But, I don't speak the language. ) then ran away to somewhere. I began walking around until I came upon my brother playing football with some boys from our high school. I ran to them when one of the boys got hurt and the boy turned out to be an older version ( he is fifteen now and he looked eighteen in the dream ) of my crush Ryan. I asked if he was ok and he replied with a quick and short "Yeah.". The the scene switched to me and my friend Emily running in a coliseum with her yelling at me to tell my crush I like him even though I keep telling her I think the crush is fading quickly. She yells "You like Ryan!" and the boys were spectators and Ryan had a shocked look on his face. And, that's how the part ended.
Part 2: I was standing in front of a floor length mirror in a large and unfamiliar room putting on a dress that looks like a maids out fit but with a very short skirt. I looked to be about eighteen. A bell ran causing me to run into the hall where an old and proper looking women with graying hair stood with an impatient look on her face and slapping her hand fan made out of what looked like silk into her palm repeatedly. I gave a little curtsy and waited for her to give me my instructions of the day. She spoke saying "My son is having a party this evening so I want you and every other person on our staff to be on their best behavior. So, go down stair and help the other girls get everything set for the party." with a stern look upon her face. I went down the spiral staircase that had gold painted railing and at the bottom stood a man about five year older then me making him twenty-three. He had long dark brown hair that reached the top of his shoulders and dark chocolate colored eyes. He wore a full black suit but instead of the regular Italian leather shoes you see go with it he has on full black high top Converse. When, I reached the bottom of the steps he grabs the top of my arm and pulls me toward him. He whispers something in my ear and gives my earlobe a quick nip. He drags me to a bedroom. When, we enter the little boy and two girls a little older then him are sitting on the bed. One has the same hair and skin color as him but gray-blue eyes ( which is the eye color I have ) while the other has long dark brown messy curls and dark chocolate colored eyes. The children get up and leave the room but I hug the little boy before he exits and tell him to find me before he leaves. The man closes the door and locks it before shoving me down on the bed and kissing me aggressively. He pulls the skirt of my dress up and then starts biting and sucking on my thighs as I try to unbutton his suit jacket and dress shirt. Then, it switches to both of us unclothed with him on top of me and my nails racking down his back with servants knocking on the door every ten minutes saying his mother wishes to speak with him but he just keeps telling them to leave him because he has move important matters to tend to. After we were done having our...uh.."fun" we were just laying in the bed with me on top of him with him rubbing circles on my back like people did when I was a child to get me to relax and fall asleep. He said "I wish we didn't have to hide this, Katherine." with a southern twang a little thicker then my own making me think he was from Tennessee or something considering I live a state or two above it. "I know but your mother would probably hire someone to kill me if she knows I am the one who deflowered her baby boy." is what I replied as I kissed his neck. He got up from the bed and went to the wardrobe and pulled something out and came back to the bed handing it to me. It was a dress that looked exactly like the one I was going to wear to my freshman homecoming dance but decided to skip and a mask like the one on the cover of Masquerade by Melissa De La Cruz. I looked at him with confusion on my face and he just kissed me and said "Come to the ball with me tonight. It is a masquerade and even if they cannot see yo

A. Sounds like a fun time was had by two. However relationships as much as we think they are only between two people involve our families too. If you circumvent their approval you risk running into all sorts of issues and problems that are stated or inferred. The issues include pregnancy, disease, and whether there is more than the lust for fun there. Lots of luck. Do the right thing and the Creator will approve and your dreams will show that.

Have you ever been wrote up at your job?

Q. I gotten three write ups at my job for being absent.I got those write ups in only 2 weeks. If I get wrote up one more time I am going to get fired.

My dad said if I lose my job he is going to throw me out of his house. I am 22 years old, that owe Chicago State University over 5 Thousand Dollars, and I owe my Credit Cards over 2 Thousand Dollars, and all I did was buy Gas for my car.

I woek at UPS, as a part-time package handler, I make $8.50 a hour. I work 10 to 15 hours a week. So I am bringing home less than $100.00 a week after taxes. What am I going to do.

I am only 22 years old. What am I going to do with my miserable life. What would you do?

A. The law says that once you reach 18 you're an adult. It used to be that parents threw kids out (if they didn't leave by themselves) at age 18 to get their own job and apartment. So don't whine, you're an adult now, you can handle this.
By 21 usually people have their undergrad degree and owe over $16,000 and have no job, so you're in an ok position.

First of all you should stop being absent from work so that yo can get a good reference from UPS in the future. Then determine which of your friends could make sure you get to and from work if your own car can't get you there. See if you can either work on the net or get a second job near where UPS is and work the two jobs, go directly from one to the other. Then as time moves by and you've not been absent in a long time see if you can sign on for full-time work for UPS, FedEx or USPS, etc.

Pay the lowest amount on the credit cards allowed and don't buy anything for many many months. Are you on a repayment schedule for schooling? If so pay the lowest amount. What you need is additional income and some disciplining yourself.
The way you discipline yourself is to set your sites on the future and work toward goals.

There's always relatives who could take you in for a couple of weeks in one of their bedrooms. Sometimes friends can do that too. But you can also rent a room or an apartment and you pay half. The problem with that is that you need upfront money, so get that second job.

Have you ever renovated an attic into a master bedroom suite?
Q. We are considering purchasing a home (near Chicago) that would need a significant renovation of an unfinished attic to make it into a master bedroom suite (including a full bath).

1. I am looking for information on what it takes to do this job.
2. Any ideas on cost info (I need professionals for the job)
3. What to look out for
4. Feedback – if you did this once, would you do it again?

Thanks in advance

A. My father did this for me when I was about 10 years old. Totally cool room. On the sides of the room where you have to square off the slant of the roof line, he built in a series of dressers and shelves. He then floored behind the dressers (that were built in) and it made even more additional storage. Of course, I also had 2 clothes closets that were huge.

He also made these cool drop down desks that could be set up or folded down for more space if needed.

With all of the built ins about the only furniture that was needed was the bed (he made me one of those too) and a nightstand.

My dad was a carpenter.

Does anybody knows a company that comes to your house/apartment to buy your furniture?

Q. I want to sell a heavy bedroom set. It is very nice but none of my friends wants to deal with transportation and moving stuff. Please advise.
Donations are not in my list, please.

A. There are companies, but they buy everything in the house, not just a bedroom set.

Put an ad in craigslist and in any local bulletin boards.

Used furniture has little value, so price it accordingly if you want to sell it.

Where can I get a furniture package?
Q. I just moved to fresno ca and am very low on funds. Where can I get a deal on furniture for my whole apartment? I cant afford to buy each piece seperate and dont want to do rent-a-center or anything like that. I need a living room set, two bedroom sets and a dining room set. I cant find anything of quality on craigslist in my area.

A. No idea but are you adverse to ikea? (putting together a whole house of flat pack may be annoying but ikea can recommend people to do it for you for a fee if that doesn't work for you) they have rooms in their catalogue showing how cheaply you can decorate an entire room. Otherwise, you could always try ebay, I've gotten some nice bargains from people moving overseas who need to sell almost everything, so if you see an item you like click the "view sellers other items" link - no point in spending a mint on petrol going from place to place for every single piece of furniture you need. Good Luck!

How much does it cost to ship apartment furniture across country by rail?
Q. Looking to ship a bedroom set, coffee table, entertainment stand and a few small boxes across the country from PA to CA. Truck rentals are north of $1500, companies like PODS and so on are way too expensive. I am curious as to how much it could cost shipping via rail instead. Can't really find too much on pricing.

A. The days when the railroads shipped small lots (called LCL=less than carload) ended by 1960. Most freight now is carried in multiple car lots under contract. The charges for a single sixty-foot long box car would undoubtedly be more than truck rate and you would have to find a rail siding at origin and destination that would allow loading and unloading for a one-time shipper. Your best bet, outside moving companies, is to look at containers. Contact local freight forwarders and check on rates for renting and shipping a container. Best bet might be to contact PODS (see info below under What's your source?) which provides smaller containers and will also store them until you are ready to unload. They are also used to dealing with domestic consumers on single shipments, while a lot of freight forwarders are business oriented and won't do much to get a one-time shipment. While you may think companies rates are expensive, consider their equipment, fuel, labor and insurance costs. Unless you can find an independent trucker (gypsy) who has already made his money hauling a load from CA to PA and is back-hauling your load to avoid returning empty and therefore willing to give you a cheap price, you will probably not find a bargain rate. Consider selling or donating the furniture locally and replacing it at your new locale, and shipping the few boxes by US Postal Service (before their rates go up to UPS/Fedex levels or they go broke).

What kind of bedding would go well with this area rug?

Q. I'm moving to a new house soon and am planning out my bedroom. The room has dark faux wood (laminate) flooring, and neutral beige colored walls. Because i'm not a big fan of flooring in bedrooms i bought a stylish area rug!

(see picture) http://www.rona.ca/shop/~rug-ice-shaggy-area-rug-rona-collection-337227_rona-collection_area-rugs_decoration_shop

What kind of bedding would go well with the colors and patterns in it? pictures of examples would be helpful!

Thanks!

What can I do now to lose about 50 pounds by my wedding in 9 months?
Q. I am getting married in May 2010 and I am 174 pounds right now and want to get down to 130. I am 5 7 and was hoping you could help me by suggesting things that I could do daily to get me down to my goal! Thanks so much.

A. Hey first Congratulations!! :)
I have been doing this routine from past few months, i have lost 15Ibs and gain muscles. I have shard this info with couple of friends they have tired it and few ppl on yahoo have tired it and lost about 2 pounds each week. If you able to lose about 2 Ibs per week (THAT IS 8Ibs PER MONTH = 40iBS IN 5 MONTHS) AND you will be very close to your goal. You will be done before your time so here we go!

I know this is long reply. But please take your time and read this. I know this work.

Water is very good for you and specially if you're on diet and if you're working out-water is very good and keeps you hydrated.
I don't believe in pills or any weight loss shakes-they are bogus and lame and are temporally and have many side effects.

First loose the soda, cut down on pizza and fast food.
If you like fires make 'em at home in oven. They come out very yummy and oil free.

Key is to eat small portions 5 times a day.
Morning: boiled eggs, corn flakes, fat free milk, if you want to fry eggs loose the yolk and eat the white part.
Morning snack around 10:30am-11am: a piece of fruit / 2 cups of veggie/ salad
Lunch: Turkey / Chicken lunchmeat with whole grain or wheat bread.
1 Cup of veggies.
Mid day snack (around 2:30pm or so) a piece of fruit or health bar.
Dinner: Grill fish with veggies / brown rice with beans/ wheat pasta with grill chicken.
9pm snack (optional-only if you feel lil hungry 2 hours before your sleep time) have yogurt.

The key is to loose red meat and pork and add more wheat products to your diet. Drink lots of water. As you can read i did not talk about any sweet products. Sweet only from fruits no cookies no cake no brownies.None of that. Sweet things have more and load and calories. Take your protein because you would need that protein for your work out.

Cardio every day only 30-40 min of cardio. Jog-run, fast walk, bike, swim, dance, stair climbing any of these cardio will be great! just choose one method and stick to it. Or you can do 25 min of biking and 15 min of treadmill. Or just go for Jog.

About 100-200 crunches every other day.
100 crunches in morning
100 crunches at night time

For hips, behind and thighs one thing SQUATS and LUNGES helps a lot!
SQUATS are hard to do in start but once you get use to of it, no problem
for butt is "BUTT BLASTER" EXERCISE. You can do it in your bedroom. To see how to perform those exercises, you can go image google put the key word and check out the pics and that will give you idea on how to perform those exercises. All the exercises i told you, you can do it in your bedroom, no need to go to gym or buy any equipment.

Start by doing 3 sets of 15 each.

Believe me you will see results within a month.
I have told other people too, this entire veggies and fruit intake will make you very regular and you will make about 4 trips to the bathroom, so be prepare.

I am redecorating my room with a beach/ocean theme, but I'm 21 and I want it to be sophisticated, any ideas?
Q. I am trying to steer away from seashells and waves and fish decorations, but I love the idea of a calming, ocean-themed bedroom. Do you have suggestions for how I could do this without being juvenile?

How much money do i need to save up?

Q. Okay so i'm planning on moving to Los Angeles from Orange county in almost exactly a year, and when I do ill be making 47,000 a year. I have about 2,500 saved up right now. my question is how much should I save up for the initial move over? Like for rent and deposit and stock my apartment and what not? I'm looking at 1 bedroom and thrifty life style. When I live there i'll already be earning my full salary, but how much money should I save for the initial move?

A. Well, you'll need to put down the first and last month's rent, and probably a security deposit. So plan on having to cough up three month's rent at the time you sign your lease. Where I live you can get a really nice 1 bedroom apartment for $725, with heat, hot water and cooking fuel included, but I'm sure the cost of living is much higher in LA. I wouldn't know what rent is there, but whatever it is, multiply by three. For me that would be $2,175.

Plan conservatively, and save as much money as you can before the move. A lot can go wrong when you are moving, and you need to have the cash set aside to deal with it. Have all of your expenses for at least the first couple of months saved. Figure food is $150/mo, gas $100/mo, telephone/internet $50/mo, plus miscellaneous. Add another $700.

You need to have enough money left over to deal with emergencies (say, $1,000).

Ideally, you would still have enough money left over to be able to move back out of the city if the job falls through, etc, but we're not living in an ideal world.

So, the end result is that I wouldn't consider moving in your position without **at least** $4,000 in the bank, plus the moving costs. Of course, all of the above figures will be higher for you, considering the high cost of living in L.A. The other user's suggestion of $6,000 sounds about right.

Given the choice I would always prefer to have more, and if I had the ability to save it, I wouldn't turn my nose up at a savings goal of $10,000. The money can always be put to good use later.

The costs for two different kinds of heating systems for a three-bedroom home are given in the following table?
Q. The costs for two different kinds of heating systems for a three-bedroom home are given in the following table:

SystemCost to InstallOperating Cost/Year
Solar$29,700$150
Electric$5,000$1,100

a. After how many years will total costs for solar heating and electric heating be the same?

b. What will be the cost at that time?

A. Hi Its all just pie in the sky 17 to 23 years may be ,you can not factor into the equation the true ongoing maintenance costs, Solar panels are a big rip offfff as they were in the 1980s. Look at heat pumps if you want a system that viable for a three bedroom house, just stay away from solar power in the UK, in the USA you have a light in the sky we call the Sun that will help the Solar system efficiency its just the cost of the panels that sets people against the system a lot of the Solar equipmant is comming in from China costing peanuts by the time it gets to the end user its not viable. . The questions that you have asked I can not answer truthfully sorry, Hopefully someone else can help
cheers

How much would a house like this cost in Iowa next summer?
Q. My brother and i will both be done with college this spring, starting jobs where we would both make $15 per hour. I have a $300 car payment for another 2 years, and he will need a car within a year, of a similar payment.

We want to get a small house here in Iowa, area code 50613, that has a large workspace such as either a very large garage, or a seperate workshop, perhaps made from a pole barn. Neither of us plan on raising families there, so a 2-bedroom house with 1 bath and a small kitchen, just a bachelor pad, would fit quite well. We'd like to be near town, but rural enough to not have to worry too much about neighbors, since we've grown up in the country and are used to being able to shoot firearms, and work on our cars without worrying about leaving a tool laying out, for a passing kid to steal if we were in town. Darn tool-stealing kids.

Honestly, i think we would both live in a large RV if the price was right, and if we could find an empty lot for dirt cheap to build a simple workshop on. We have welding equipment, an air compressor, stuff that just doesn't fit into a small house's garage in the middle of town. Our parents are selling the acreage to move into a condo in town, and my brother and i cannot afford the huge house or property it's on, when the large workshop and rural setting are all we really need.

I thought about maybe just living in an apartment in town, and renting somebody's unused barn outside of town, for my brother to rebuild a muscle car, and myself to build a dune buggy.

Okay so this is a ton of extra info... Any advice or thoughts on how much we could get a small rural house for?

A. Depends on how far out of town you are willing to live. Cedar Falls-Waterloo is a college town, with an industrial base. Farther East and South, the more expensive. You get 75-100 West Wright/Hamilton/Franklin county areas, you can buy what you are looking for within $50-60,000 range. 30 year loan, you're talking $600-700 month including property tax and insurance. Should be able to rent around $400-500 month

Master bedroom furniture is traditional dark brown (new), what color can I paint walls?

Q. Bedroom furniture consits of King size bed, two night stands and nine draw dresser. Considering to have 50" TV over dresser, sitting area and include small kitchenette.

A. Hi!

Brown is a neutral color, so basically, you can paint any color under the rainbow with it... it all depends on what you like. There are a few things to remember though, and I have a few suggestions... Hope this helps:

To have complete color harmony in any room, you need to have 3 colors: 1 dominant color (usually the walls), 1 medium color (usually the trim, molding, ceiling, furniture, etc.) and 1 accent color (usually decorative accents such as cushions, vases, throws, etc.). You can use the same color as your funiture as you do on an accent wall or all the walls... it depends on lots of things like your lighting, but we'll get to that later.

In decorating, black and white are not considered colors. White is the absence of all color. That's why you can match it with any color under the rainbow. Black is the mixture of all colors. That's why it too, can be mixed with any color under the rainbow. It's not necessary to have any white in a room, but it is very important that you have at least one black item: a vase, a picture frame, a throw rug, a cushion, a curtain rod, a lamp, etc.... you get the idea). The black will ground ALL of your colors together. So don't forget to add something black in your room.

What color of brown is your furniture: Black-brown (as in very dark espresso coffee), dark chocolate brown, etc. Since you didn't say, here are some color schemes that work with different types of brown furniture. The way to use them is for the 1st color = dominant 2nd color = medium and 3rd color = accent. Of course, you can use them in any other way you like, thought the ones listed here are best together in just this way. (after, you'll get some links to some nice color inspiration).

Chocolate brown & Terra-cotta & Taupe
Chocolate brown & Metallic Gold & Neutral bisque
Chocolate brown & Delicate teal & Teal blue
Chocolate brown & Teal blue & Gernaium red
Chocolate brown & Brick red & Sky blue

Espresso brown & Soft Orange & Coffee with cream
Espresso brown & Aquamarine & Silver
Espresso brown & Blushing Pink & Silver
Espresso brown & Hot pink and Icy Silver
Espresso brown & Candy apple red & Graphite gray
Espresso brown & Cinnamon & Pale sky blue

Light purple & Teal Blue & Geranium red
Cream & Earthy green & Cinnamon
Gold & Copper & Brownish Taupe
Coral brown & Cream & Rich brown
Brilliant yellow & Lavender & Light brown
Orange & Burnt Orange & Brown
Gray brown & Red & Cream
Orange & Dark brown & Metallic gold
Golden yellow & Sky blue & Velvety brown
Aquamarine & Butterscotch gold & dark brown
Cinnamon & Dark brown & Sky blue

This part would have been easier if you would have given us the style of furniture you have, but the pics should help for color inspiration... I hope you enjoy this, because I certainly enjoyed doing the research for this. I LOVE doing this !!!! :)

So... hope that was fun...

The best and most trusted way to find the color for any room, is to take an accessory or decorative item that will be going into that room: the duvet cover, the curtains, a painting, a rug, blinds, shutters, upholstered furniture, a lamp... you get the idea). Choose the item with passion. Make it something that you ABSOLUTELY LOVE, perhaps it was handed down by your great-grandmother or a cherished item you worked hard for. Or make it something that just SCREAMED out your name when you were shopping, so you knew you had to have it! Choose your color pattern from that item. And take it from there.

Keep in mind too, that color is an amazing thing! There's psychology behind color - it can make you have wonderful, relaxing dreams... or it can keep you from falling asleep, especially if you're already a wound-up 6 year old little boy! It can make you feel warm and comfortable, or hot and stifled. It can make you feel nice, fresh and cool - or it can make you feel like parts of you are going to freeze off. Color can be your friend or your enemy. And really, the earth can "shed some light" on us to help decide every color scheme. Here's how:
What direction does your room face - North, South, East or West? It makes a difference. If you've got the sun pounding down on your bedroom window, you'll want to stay away from warm colors, such as reds, yellows, oranges, etc. They'll make you feel too hot. Opt for cooler colors, such as blues, turquoise, cool creams... think mediterranean beach style here. In a room facing North, that doesn't get much light, you'll opt more for warmer colors and brighter colors: yellow, bright pinks, golden hues. Here's a most interesting link about how color affects us psychologicallly:

http://keelynet.com/biology/coloraff.htm

That's all I guess... Hope I helped you choose your color ;-)

You're always welcome to email and I'd enjoy knowing what color scheme you chose...!

Why is it so hard to find a bedroom set for a 21 year old woman?
Q. I am in my last year of college and live with my parents, I plan on moving out when I have a stable career, hopefully in the next two years. I am looking for a nice bedroom set. It is so hard to find a bedroom set with a desk! Desks only seem to be offered in children sets. Also, it is hard to find a nice, twin-sized bed. I like the traditional style sets, such as this:
http://www.furniturexo.com/Silver-Radiance-Panel-Bedroom-Set-Ashley-Furniture-B379-PanBSET-p-19475.html

I think that style is so cute. I like the light wood and everything. I decided that if I have to, I will buy a desk separately and try to match it as close as possible to my set. However, I still cannot find a nice set with a twin size bed! Does anyone know of places that have these? Online stores, or actual stores are ok.
Thanks in advance.
I have a small bedroom now so I can't go bigger than a twin :( It's ok..I will worry about a bigger bed when I get my own apartment

A. Just something to think about....if you're looking towards the future and getting your own place, perhaps you shouldn't worry too much about finding a desk that matches your bed. Get the bed that you really like. Think about something sleek and simple. When you have your own place, and room for a bigger bed, you can always use the single bed in a guest room. You probably will want your desk in another room, so think of a style that can work outside your bedroom. Any decorating scheme works better when you don't play matchy match with the furniture. Keep your eyes open at second hand stores or garage sales, maybe a small elegant table that you can use now for a desk, and down the road use it in your living room.

What color do you paint a closet door or the inside of a door in a bedroom?
Q. I just repainted a bedroom. Do I paint the door the same color of the walls? It is a door with raised panels.

A. It's more traditional to use - esp. on a paneled door, which implies your house is traditional - the trim color, in enamel so it wipes fingerprints off more easily than the matte wall color. It gives the room a visual break and ties in with the windows.

Although it's your home and you want it to reflect you, do always consider resale. Funky combos are harder sells, andyou don't want to have to repaint over a color when you're trying to make other life moves.

When in doubt about these things, check home magazines or ads - I find I sometimes need to do this when I'm setting the table to remember which side the fork is supposed to go on~!

Here is the Frommer's Review of the UBC Accomodations:

"The University of British Columbia is in a pretty, forested setting on the tip of Point Grey -- a convenient location if you plan to spend a lot of time in Kitsilano or at the university itself. If you don't have a car, it's a half-hour bus ride from downtown. Although these are student dorms most of the year, rooms are usually available. The rooms are very nice, but don't expect luxury. The 17-story Walter Gage Residence offers new and comfortable accommodations; many are located on the upper floors with sweeping views of the city and ocean. One- and six-bedroom suites here come equipped with private bathrooms, kitchenettes, TVs, and phones. Each studio suite has a twin bed; each one-bedroom suite features a queen bed; the six-bedroom Tower suites -- a particularly good deal for families -- feature one double bed and five twin beds. Located next door, the year-round Gage Court suites have two twin beds in one bedroom and a queen-size Murphy bed in the sitting room.

Facilities:
(Nearby and on campus): Restaurant; cafeteria; pub; Olympic-size swimming pool; museums; public golf course; tennis courts; weight room; sauna for C$5 (US$3.75) per person; video arcade; laundry; all rooms nonsmoking"

I also did an Obbitz search from May 18-20 for hotels (because I did not know which weekend in May that you would be there). Here are the results of the search which you can arrange according to location, best value, lowest price, etc. Most of the cheaper end hotels still ranged from $60-$90 a night. http://www.orbitz.com/App/shared/pagedef/results/hotel.jsp?z=2f3b&r=15c&z=2f3d&r=15e&lastPage=interstitial

Have a good trip.

How do I create an East Asian-style bedroom in a small space and limited colour options?

Q. My room is 10x10, including a closet, and the top half of the walls are white, whilst the bottom half the wall is painted a magenta/Barney purplish, painted by the former residents of the home. I'm not able to change the colour so I'd like to create an East Asian style bedroom that would include that colour. Got any ideas?

A. One easy and cheap way to change the look is to simply change your bedding, have a look at new comforter covers, sheets and pillowcases in some asian style, for example here is one good source for complete beddign sets.

What is the quality of Malaysian made (bedroom) furniture?
Q. I am looking to purchase some bedroom furniture, but I don't know the quality of furniture made in Malaysia versus the other set made in America. We will be moving in about a year, and don't want the stuff to fall apart in our next move. Anyone have any experience with furniture made in Malaysia or other Asian countries?

A. They imported cheap furnitures from Bali, Indonesia and then raised the price up (For money ofcourse) and claim that the Malay made it.

What can I use instead of a side table ?
Q. I don't have a side table and want one but I can't buy one cause my bedroom furniture is 'unique' cause my late great grandpa made it and it is Yellow in color.
I don't want to paint the furniture.

Any ideas on what can I Use instead of a side table ?
I want 'something' so that I Can put a book, a glass of water etc on it so the things are handy

A. stack of (vintage) luggage, a stool, african/ asian or otherwise, a small trunk, an ottoman with a tray set on top, an architectural fragment like a column or pediment, any sort of interesting odd thing that is roughly the size of the desired table, or even a disobedient child.
