Answer
Mexico City is a great place to visit for a month!

It would be nice to have some more details about what you are looking to do in Mexico City.

Anyways, you can rent a decent (not a first rate hotel, but clean and safe) hotel room in downtown Mexico City for about $700 pesos per week, but that's with a shared bath. It also includes free internet in the lobby and a safe for your things. You can get a room w/bath for about $1,000 pesos per week. It really depends on what you want. There are many hotels in the Centro Historico (Downtown) which is close to many sights and things to see and do.

Yes, there's human flu in Mexico. It's also in the US and now it's in many other countries.

As for the cost of daily living: A ride on the Metro subway system costs $2.00 pesos (less than $0.20 US cents), a short taxi ride costs about $20 pesos, a bus costs about 3-4 pesos in the DF.

A tour of the city by Turibus costs about $150 pesos for all day.

Food: A tamale and a cup of atole (a steaming hot rice drink, often Chocolate or strawberry flavored) costs about 15 pesos. There's your breakfast. Lunch at a small-medium family run restaurant, the set menu comida corrida which usually includes soup, rice, beans, a main dish (enchiladas, beef or chicken steak, fish etc), a dessert, tortillas and a drink of agua fresca (flavored water, like juice) should cost between $40-50 pesos. Dinner: six tacos and a coke= $38 pesos (5 pesos per taco, 8 pesos for the coke. So your total for one day of food= $93 pesos mas o menos (more or less) and that's way under $10 USD at the current exchange rate of about $13.2 pesos to $1 USD.

Here is a list of prices for Mexico City. Some of these seem a little low, so maybe the list is a little old:

im a 13 year old girl and i like a lot of different things so if u have any ideas fell free to tell me what they are thanks :)

Answer
1: Don't paint the room too dark. Despite what television and movies may say, most of us have small bedrooms and painting it dark will make it seem even smaller.

2: Do, however, find a way to incorporate your favorite colours. Accent pillows, posters, bedding, lamps, etc. are all wonderful ways to bring some colour into your room.

3: Don't use your 14 favorite colours though. Pick no more than three. Try to pick ones you've liked for a while, and ones that look good together.

4: The bed is the focal point of the bedroom. Make sure the bedding goes with the rest of the room (As a tip: making the bed makes the rest of the room look neater too).

5: Make a list of your favorite things that you might like posters of. Bands, places, paintings, movie stars, whatever. Now slowly work the list down. You could cover every inch of space with posters, but that would cost a small fortune. Also think about what ones would go well with the rest of your room. If you were to paint your room pink (I know you siad nothing too girly, this is just an example) and then get posters of skeletons... it won't make any sense and will look bad. But don't leave your favorite things out either, try to plan the room to get everything you love in there, without making it a huge collection of mismatched items.

6: If you are planning on moving furniture get a big sheet of paper and a coule regular sheets of paper. Measure your room and make a scale drawing on the big sheet of paper (1 inch for every foot is fine). On the regular sheets make scale drawings of all your furniture and any new furniture you may get. Be sure to use the same scale. Cut the pieces out, and move them around on the room drawing until you find a set up you like. This prevents your having to move everything 400 times until you're happy.

7: If you need more storage and can't build out: Build up! And under, and around! There are all kinds of creative storage sulutions that people over look. Get a big plastic storage container that will fit under your bed and keep your off-season clothes in it. Put sheleves on the walls for those trinkets and books. Put hooks on the back of your door for belts/scarves/bags/hats. If you have a lot of stuff that needs storage and not much room it can seem like a daunting task. But if you just step back, relax, and think about it, you'll get all kinds of ideas!

8: Most of all, have fun.

Good luck! If you have any questions or need some more help, feel free to email me.

Dream Interpretation: What does this dream mean?

Ok, the dream is like two separate parts. Sorry it's so long.
Part 1: Me and my friend Jacob are standing on top of this old Egyptian type palace dressed in Pharaoh and princess garb. He was telling me how it could all be mine if I just except his advances and stop teasing him with my revealing clothing and become his queen ( *shiver* ). Denied to be touch by another man for the rest of my life. I shock my head and ran away from him. Leaving him there with a look on his face that was a mixture of disappointment and pain. On the other side people were still building the palace and a small child was wondering around looking lost. I went to the child and kneeled down to his height and began talking to him. Asking him where his mother or siblings were. The boy had the exact same hair color as me because it looked coppery in the sunlight, the same ivory skin tone as me also and beautiful big dark chocolate colored eyes. He just smiles at me saying something in French ( I'm French on my mothers side. But, I don't speak the language. ) then ran away to somewhere. I began walking around until I came upon my brother playing football with some boys from our high school. I ran to them when one of the boys got hurt and the boy turned out to be an older version ( he is fifteen now and he looked eighteen in the dream ) of my crush Ryan. I asked if he was ok and he replied with a quick and short "Yeah.". The the scene switched to me and my friend Emily running in a coliseum with her yelling at me to tell my crush I like him even though I keep telling her I think the crush is fading quickly. She yells "You like Ryan!" and the boys were spectators and Ryan had a shocked look on his face. And, that's how the part ended.
Part 2: I was standing in front of a floor length mirror in a large and unfamiliar room putting on a dress that looks like a maids out fit but with a very short skirt. I looked to be about eighteen. A bell ran causing me to run into the hall where an old and proper looking women with graying hair stood with an impatient look on her face and slapping her hand fan made out of what looked like silk into her palm repeatedly. I gave a little curtsy and waited for her to give me my instructions of the day. She spoke saying "My son is having a party this evening so I want you and every other person on our staff to be on their best behavior. So, go down stair and help the other girls get everything set for the party." with a stern look upon her face. I went down the spiral staircase that had gold painted railing and at the bottom stood a man about five year older then me making him twenty-three. He had long dark brown hair that reached the top of his shoulders and dark chocolate colored eyes. He wore a full black suit but instead of the regular Italian leather shoes you see go with it he has on full black high top Converse. When, I reached the bottom of the steps he grabs the top of my arm and pulls me toward him. He whispers something in my ear and gives my earlobe a quick nip. He drags me to a bedroom. When, we enter the little boy and two girls a little older then him are sitting on the bed. One has the same hair and skin color as him but gray-blue eyes ( which is the eye color I have ) while the other has long dark brown messy curls and dark chocolate colored eyes. The children get up and leave the room but I hug the little boy before he exits and tell him to find me before he leaves. The man closes the door and locks it before shoving me down on the bed and kissing me aggressively. He pulls the skirt of my dress up and then starts biting and sucking on my thighs as I try to unbutton his suit jacket and dress shirt. Then, it switches to both of us unclothed with him on top of me and my nails racking down his back with servants knocking on the door every ten minutes saying his mother wishes to speak with him but he just keeps telling them to leave him because he has move important matters to tend to. After we were done having our...uh.."fun" we were just laying in the bed with me on top of him with him rubbing circles on my back like people did when I was a child to get me to relax and fall asleep. He said "I wish we didn't have to hide this, Katherine." with a southern twang a little thicker then my own making me think he was from Tennessee or something considering I live a state or two above it. "I know but your mother would probably hire someone to kill me if she knows I am the one who deflowered her baby boy." is what I replied as I kissed his neck. He got up from the bed and went to the wardrobe and pulled something out and came back to the bed handing it to me. It was a dress that looked exactly like the one I was going to wear to my freshman homecoming dance but decided to skip and a mask like the one on the cover of Masquerade by Melissa De La Cruz. I looked at him with confusion on my face and he just kissed me and said "Come to the ball with me tonight. It is a masquerade and even if they cannot see yo

Answer
Sounds like a fun time was had by two. However relationships as much as we think they are only between two people involve our families too. If you circumvent their approval you risk running into all sorts of issues and problems that are stated or inferred. The issues include pregnancy, disease, and whether there is more than the lust for fun there. Lots of luck. Do the right thing and the Creator will approve and your dreams will show that.

Answer
You weren't kidding that it was long. What I see here is that you have been looking things up or watching tv programs about the pyramids and the roman coliseum. The man that promised you everything and you ran off from is a future wealthy person that you may deny in the future thus missing the opportunity to be loved and wealthy. The little boy (first) that you kneeled and talked with could have been a future glimpse of your son or a child you will meet. The old woman is your conscience telling you to mind your etiquette and you will be welcome to up and coming events. The man in bed with you will be a wealthy athlete..a short term relationship. The masquerade invite means that you tend to hide things.

This is all I get from your dream. Hope it helps.

What toys/games did children have in the Victorian times?

Answer
Hiya,

For both adults and youngsters, Skittles and Charades, a Victorian game which is still played today.

Blindman's Bluff .

"I'm Thinking of Something" similar to the game of "Twenty Questions".

For the Victorians, games like Checkers, Chess, Backgammon, and Cribbage were also popular.

Ice Skating was an approved winter-time sport. In 1876, however, the first artificially refrigerated ice rink was crafted in Chelsea, London.

Horseback riding was often learned at an early age.

Marbles were enjoyed by both boys and girls. Wealthier players had marbles which were made out of real marble, while others had marbles made of glass or clay.

Tops and Jacks were Victorian games and toys that could be played.

The first rules for Badminton were written in India in 1873, and this game hasn't much changed. Formerly known as "Hit and Scream".

Upper class and middle class...

Girls honed their home-making skills while boys would learn either estate management or financial procedures.

Dances and other group gatherings would happen on a regular basis. Trips to the seaside or to The Continent.

Victorian toys for these children were expensive. Rocking horses with real hair and doll's houses. Wax dolls and tea sets would often be set up in a corner of the bedroom.

Boys would have train sets, toy soldiers, marbles, checker boards and chess sets.

Working class children...

Although perhaps not played with often, Boys would use yo-yo's, tin soldiers, and toy drums. Marbles were popular.

Girls would make their own dolls from bits of rags and buttons as well as hopscotch.

If toys couldn't be found, rolling a hoop down the street would use any energy which was left over from a day of work. Games of hide-and-seek and Blindman's Bluff would be enjoyed by groups of children

Hope this is useful,

Question about master bedroom furniture?

jenk

I have a really beautiful bedroom set with a canopy and a huge four poster bed and marble top dresser and night stands. The bedroom size is unfortunately average not considered large. On the opposite side of the bed I have a flat screen tv on the wall. My husband found a really classy desk that matches the exact color and style of our bedroom. There would still be enough space to walk comfortably. Would it look bad if we placed that desk in that area where the tv is? It has no shelves or anything almost looks like a table. The study room is always being used up by everyone else in the house and my husband does a lot of work on the computer. Please advise me if this sounds like an ok idea.....

Answer
I agree with the standing outside and studying your room, its a really good way to get to know your room. Another thing though is that you need to figure out where the traffic flow of your room is. So the places you'll need space for the most. Its good that there is a comfortable amount of space to walk but what about when he's working? and you wanna walk through? I can't really imagine how far the bed is from the wall that the TV is on, but maybe putting the desk up against the wall underneath the TV is its not too overwhelming to the look of the room.

if the bed is far enough from that wall with the TV then I'd say go for it leave it where you intended and maybe get a small area rug for that desk so you can separate the little island of workspace your husband has got.

Hope i Helped a little!

tiannaboob

I went to Value city furniture to purchase a bedroom set for$3147. It was that much because I added an armoire for $899.99. At that time they had enough armoires in stock for me to get. Over two weeks later I get a call from them saying the warehouse no longer had any more armoires and they were discontinued, and I could get the one on the floor. I have no idea how long it has been on the floor or if its in good condition. (I will see tomorrow).

Answer
Ask them to take off $150.00, they will probably come down to $100.00. I can't see them not taking something off, when the alternative could be risking the sale.

I have a old Ethan Allen (Girl)Bedroom Set and would like to sell it. How do i know how much it's worth?

Where are some good places to buy female furniture for the bedroom?

Jasmine

I know the question may seem weird but I am a female and I want something artsy and youthful that looks right for a chic woman. I dont want to search online for "girl" furniture because I know I'll just get furniture for children. I went to ikea and saw a bedroom set that was okay but more of the young college student. Walmart and Target, I'm afraid will be under quality and a lot of the other stores I checked out online seem to be old looking. I am very picky but I was wondering if anyone knew a place, maybe they know a female between 20-27 and where they got their bedroom furniture. I would even take crazy styles. Im tired of seeing the usual bedroom sets. If you know other places for furniture for other parts of the home thats fine too. Those are easier to find. Its the stupid bedroom that I'm stuck with.

I might be sleeping on the couch for awhile.

How should I decorate my bedroom?

Jay G

I am a male teenager.
I wanted to paint it white and stick art canvas on the wall but my Mum doesn't like the idea of all white. I am into art, and music, I also like nature, birds and trees ect. The rooms quite small.
I like the colour black and white when the two colours are together.

Any ideas?
Thanks.

Answer
A teen room makeover may be accomplished with a new coat of paint, rearranging the furniture and adding some new accessories and lighting.

Painting can have the biggest impact for the least amount of money and sets the tone of your teenâs room design.
Bedding is another very personal choice for your teenager. He might want an animal print bedspread or something in black velvet.Adding accents will give the room more interest and personality. A few fun ideas for accent items include funky chairs, pillows, area rugs and wall art.

How much should do you have to spend in the least to be a competitive dj to get gigs @ clubs? ?

random00

What things do I need to become a competive dj trying to get a gig in clubs? How much money is needed?
How much would I have to shell out in the very least to be competitive in a pretty nice club or radio station?

Answer
No experience in radio DJ.

Too much. Only the obsessed or passionate are willing to get that far in the business, because it simply costs a small fortune and lots and lots of time.

Do you have DJ friends? Hang out with them more, get advice, tips, and ask for some lessons. You could easily get started with skill and equipment information this way.

Most clubs will have all their equipment there already. You'll probably just need to bring some music and you'll be ready. But you'll still need your own set up, for practice and to climb the ladder. To climb the ladder, i find it easiest to keep practicing until you feel like a pro. Then throw some parties for your buddies, and offer to dj. For free or cheap of course. Play at high school dances. This will all get your name out there and if you find an online site or agent, you can find other events like house parties and weddings to dj at. This should all offer you plenty of chances to get a feel for "playing for the crowd". There's a huge difference between playing in your bedroom and playing for a crowd.
For your own equipment, expect to pay $700-800 for turntables, $100-300 for a mixer. And about another $150-500 on the sound system, depending on whether you want high quality or just something that makes sound lol.

By then you should have atleast met some people in the club business and impressed them. If you haven't, then you atleast have a decent resume under your belt :)

You'll probably get started as a warmup DJ. Remember to always build anticipation. And if you have passion for this, there's not much that can stop you.

I have a 10yr old shiny black bedroom set. 6 Drawers with an unique style mirror, headboard and rails, 2 night stands, and a tall chest that has a clothes rack and two drawers on the inside, and the two panels that opens up are mirrors. What do you think I could sale it for? Its furniture that my late mom owned. Thanks in advance for your response.

what would this 7 piece French Provencial Bedroom set be worth?

JessicaN

I have an off white with light grey blue outlined 7 piece French Provincial Bedroom set, not sure from what years? But has a boy and girl on the drawers. Pieces include; Mirror, headboard, foot board, dresser, chest of drawers and 2 night stands. All in great condition. Was not sure where to begin to find out what it may be worth?
Also would like to add pictures, but don't see anywhere to do that??

Answer
If you think it has any value beyond used furniture, take it to an antique store for an opinion. Otherwise just see what others are charging for used furniture and price yours accordingly.

What should I put on bedroom dresser?

Kathy

I just bought a new bedroom set. The dresser looks bare; any suggestions? Also, what kind of lamp should I use for the night stand? Keep in mind it's a large, wide night stand. A tall skinny lamp or a fatter one?

Answer
No need to clutter your new dresser. I would just get some nice picture frames and put a family picture or two on the dresser. Balance the picture(s) with a tall candle holder, a vase of flowers or a plant. If your bedroom gets a lot of light, a Phalaenopsis orchid would look lovely. Look for one with healthy looking roots and leaves and quite a few buds. Water it thoroughly once a week, but don't get water on the leave (if you do, wipe it off especially any water that gets in the center) and the orchid should stay in bloom for at least 2 months. Trader Joes, Loews, Home Depot and Costco often carry orchids at very reasonable prices ($10-$15). Orchids last a lot longer than a bouquet of flowers.

If your nightstand is wide, I would suggest a lamp with a large round or oval base. Be sure to purchase the lamp from a store that has a cash refund policy, in case the lamp you purchase does not look good once you get home.

What are good furniture stores for bedroom sets?

Jordyn

I'm moving soon, & my plan is to get rid of everything in my bedroom & starting out clean. I am getting all new furniture for my bedroom, & I need ideas. Any websites to help? Nothing too expensive either. :c
Also, the only website I've actually checked out was Ikea & nothing really caught my eye. & If you know another website that has accessories for bedrooms (sheets, curtains, etc.) than suggest those one too. Thanks!

Answer
All these places sell bedroom suites, but you don't give any indication of your budget or what style you like at all, so can't help with the curtains, sheets etc, but hopefully you'll see something you like on these furniture sites..

Where can a find a good quality, chocolate brown bedroom set with a modern feel to it?

vanjita

I am looking for something chocolate brown with a modern feel to it for a king size bed. I've found some nice sets but all were really poorly built. I am looking for something made out of real wood with corner block reinforcements in the drawers and screws, not just staples and glue. Am I being too picky? Do they just not make good quality furniture anymore? Please help.

Answer
If you're open to shopping online, check out http://www.homelement.com/products/Bedroom-Furniture/Contemporary-Bedroom/Contemporary-Bedroom_1.html

Good luck!

Why don't any of the cool and funky comforter sets come in King Size?

Curiousmin

I am young and looking for a fun and funky bedding set, but I have a king size bed. All the sets I like seem to go up to Queen, but no king. Is the assumption that people who have big beds are boring and would rather have "hotel like sets" with dull colors? Does King size = Conservative???

Answer
Try overstock.com. Shipping is only $2.95. The link is below. There's a handful of funky bedding sets on there that are king size. But yes, in general, king size = conservative! I think the assumption is that if you have enough money to have a large bed and a home with a bedroom large enough to hold it, then you must not be very young or hip. And truth be told, stores probably don't sell a lot of the funky patterns in king size. The internet is probably your best bet. I'm having a similar problem finding toddler-themed sheets for my little girl in full-size. Everything is twin. Good luck!

Sanded thru veneer how to repair it?

v.e.n.d.e.

Re-finishing the top of a dresser. Sanded thru the veneer. Anything I could do to get it looking right again? It's part of a matching bedroom set so it needs to look good.

Answer
Well, with a lot of patience and some artistic talent... it can be painted to match, but you have to have a good set of tints, and know what youre doing.

Your best bet will probably be to put new veneer on the piece. You can find several species and all the supplies/tools at Rockler
http://www.rockler.com/search_results.cfm?filter=veneer&submit.x=17&submit.y=10

And then you can stain the new piece to match the existing work. That will probably be easier than trying to create a faux finish if youve never done it before.

Your other option is to send it to a furniture repair shop.

Somebody please tell me the pros and cons of having particle board furniture in your home.?

1DivineSis

I found a really nice bedroom set that is made of particle board. I've only owned real wood furniture but I love this bedroom set that I've found. What are the pros and cons of having particle board furniture in your home?

Answer
Particle board is not as strong as real wood. The laminate that they use to cover the particle board scratches and chips easily. Underneath the laminate does not look good, so when you scratch the laminate you will see the ugly particle board underneath it.

The pros of particle board are that it is cheaper than real wood. It is usually lighter that real wood. Finally, we have a particle board bedroom set. We've been waiting for all the negatives to appear on our bedroom set. We've been waiting for 7 years! We've moved 5 times. Our bedroom set has gone up and down 3 flights of stairs by movers and friends. We dont take very good care of it, and it has lasted forever. We're really sick of our bedroom set, but it just wont go bad. The worst that has happened is that one of the bottom drawers cracked. The part was actually thin solid wood. We have a few scratches, but nothing major. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Some ideas for redecorating child's room on a budget.?

oldseadog5

My 6 year old son wants his room redecorated (it's still decorated as a baby's room) and his birthday is coming up. Any ideas on how to redo his room without spending a lot of money (say $100 or so). In middle of divorce right now and can't afford to do it right.

Answer
The things in a bedroom that majorly affect it are lighting, wall color, bedspread, curtains, flooring. If you're anywhere near an Ikea, *definitely* check it out. If not, maybe you could consider shipping (http://www.ikea.com/ms/en_US/popup/shipping_method.html for rates AND also try the "Ask Anna" feature to talk get live help online).

So if you deice to go with Ikea...

BED TEXTILES
Some nice *sets* for $10 and $13
http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?storeId=12&catalogId=10103&langId=-1&topcategoryId=15567&parentCats=15567*15826*15841&categoryId=15841&cattype=sub

FOR WALL
As other people pointed out, buy some nice paint - maybe from the discount rack at Home Depot? - and paint just one wall (COST: ~$10 and less than 2 hours' time).

FOR FLOOR
$5 Small rug options from Ikea (Maybe one near the bed and one near the desk if he uses one)
Snail - http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?topcategoryId=15567&catalogId=10103&storeId=12&productId=11971&langId=-1&categoryId=15844&chosenPartNumber=10056402
Ladybug - http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?topcategoryId=15567&catalogId=10103&storeId=12&productId=10453&langId=-1&categoryId=15844&chosenPartNumber=00056412
Fish - http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?topcategoryId=15567&catalogId=10103&storeId=12&productId=71775&langId=-1&categoryId=15844&chosenPartNumber=50098438

FOR LIGHTING
http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?storeId=12&catalogId=10103&langId=-1&topcategoryId=15567&parentCats=15567*16242&cattype=sub&categoryId=16242
And just for ideas on how to light a child's bedroom: http://www.ikea.com/ms/en_US/furnish_with_light/fwl_childrens_room/index.html

FOR WINDOWS
Bubbles drapes for $15 - http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?topcategoryId=15567&catalogId=10103&storeId=12&productId=72102&langId=-1&categoryId=16158&chosenPartNumber=60098584
There are others too in the non-children's section of the website.

OTHER STUFF
You can add additional accessories, like
This nice green dragon which would look nice on a wall and also add storage for $8- http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?topcategoryId=15567&catalogId=10103&storeId=12&productId=53198&langId=-1&chosenPartNumber=40081476 - .
Or these stickers for $1.50 to stick on the windows, closet doors or anywhere else http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?topcategoryId=15567&catalogId=10103&storeId=12&productId=72218&langId=-1&categoryId=16158&chosenPartNumber=80099295,
Or these six colorful plastic glasses for $1.50 to hold pencils and crayons and small knick-knacks - http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?topcategoryId=15567&catalogId=10103&storeId=12&productId=61278&langId=-1&chosenPartNumber=10096907

If Ikea isn't a possibility, maybe you could check out your local area Freecycle organization (if you live in a big city, there very probably is one) - Freecycle.org. And of course, there's Craig's List - craigslist.com

Through both Freecycle and Craig's List, you can find good quality stuff - from furniture to plants to posters and artwork that people are too conscientious to just dump in a landfill (thank god) - and all for free.

And hey, it's summer, so check out all those yard sales! People often advertise them in local papers and websites like Craig's List.

Good luck!

Any organization tips please?

Okay, school starts in exactly two weeks and my office and bedroom are both complete disasters. I'm usually an organized person but with all the new text books and clothes everything's beginning to cram. I've already gotten rid of some stuff I don't need and sold it on eBay.
Any other ideas on how to organize it all?? I'd like to start the new year fresh =)

Answer
What I have been dying to do in my house, is take it one room at a time. Completely empty everything in the room (except large furnature items that you know will be staying in there). Put it all in another room, and pick through the stuff. Only put back the stuff in the room that is necessary in there. What you have left over, decide if it can go somewhere else in your house. If not, then pitch it, sell it, give it away, whatever.

That's if you actually have time to do that. It could take a few days, but it would be worth it in the end.

As far as school organization...

I bought a cubbie hole furniture piece from walmart for only like 35.00. I use it for my kids toys, but it would be great to organize backpacks, books, school supplies, etc...

My cubbie unit comes with 9 cubes in it. Depending on how many kids you have, give them a certain number of cubes to put their things in.

They also sell great closet organizers that have the days of the week marked on them. I am thinking of getting one for my daughter this year when she starts school. This way, on Sunday, I can put each day's outfit in the slot, and cut down on time in the mornings by picking out clothes. If your kids are old enough to pick out their own clothes to put in the slots, that works even better!

If you start with a clean house, it's easier to keep it organized. So give your house a good cleaning, and encourage your kids to put the things in appropriate places so they know where it is for the next day.

I have all black bedroom furniture ( my husband picked it out lol ). I have no idea what color accents or b edding to get. Any suggestions?

Answer
Get lots white room accents (lamps, vases, clocks, etc) with a little colour in there like bright blue or scarlet (in the smaller accents like candles, etc). bedding should be simple if you have lots of colourful accessories, but if you stick with white try something crazy and multi-coloured! Paint the walls a colour that shows up in your bedding (but one that doesn't show up a lot).
Ikea is an excellent store to go to, great design and unbelievable prices. Almost any art museum will actually have nice stuff, too. Target is another good place.

My husband & I recently bought a bedroom set off of Ebay. And while it isn't exactly our style we've decided to make due with it. I would however like to darken in up a bit using paint. The set includes a headboard, long dresser, two mirrors and tall chest/armoire. The problem is that the set is made of half wood and half plastic. Odd! I know. The plastic decorative parts cannot be removed. Can I paint this set? Prime and spray paint it perhaps? And if so, what kind of paint do I use? Thanks in advance.

Answer
My hubby and I have painted veneer furniture to make it look for modern contemporary. Here is how we do it. First lightly sand. Then spray with that spray primer that looks terra cotta colored. After that is dry spray with flat black paint. Start at the edges making them dark and work your way toward the middle so that a little bit of the primer shows through. Let dry a little bit and then spray with a polyurathane varnish either in matt or gloss. While the poly is still wet lightly, very lightly brush with the grain back and forth to make it look a little like wood grain. It will be dark but a little lighter toward the middle parts of each peace. Go to some furniture stores and look at some of the dark wood peices to see what I mean.

Also I did this to a dresser that we use in our office. It is a piece from the '70s an very contemporary in style. It was already a medium colored wood but I applied a darker stain with a rag and let dry. Took a while though. After that I took another lighter stain and a rounded brush and dabbed the stain on. I would kinda swish the brush to give it a mottled /burled look. We have gotten a lot of complements on how pretty it is. Experiement, you never know what you will come up with

I want to buy a bedroom set that will last, preferably for at least a couple generations, in solid wood. I don't want Ikea or anything like that. Where do you buy your furniture? Any tips on good, discount furniture?

Answer
Ethan Allan has really good stuff, but its really expensive. Stuff made out of real wood (not pine or particle board) is fairly pricey. Wicks has some decent stuff. We priced out a nice mahogany bedroom set there with a queen sleigh bed, highboy dresser, and a pair of nightstands which came out to about $3500. I'd say stay away from Levitz. I bought a recliner from them that fell apart within 2 years. My wife fell in love with a sleigh bed from Thomasville. without the matress it was $2500. I found a guy on ebay selling the exact same bed that was 6 months old for 1500 with a nice beauty rest matress. I went for it, but had to pay a few hundred to have it shipped from NYC to Los Angeles. You might try that though, look around in the high-dollar stores, note the maker and model number then look to see who might have it on ebay or maybe an internet retailer.

Do you think one nightstand would look akward?

stephyrose

I'm planning on buying a new bedroom set: headboard/footboard, armoire, and I'm thinking about just one nightstand. Would that look weird, especially considering I'm not doing the usual dresser/mirror thing? What should I do to offset it; place the bed closer to the wall? Replace it with something else? I only have 2 walls to work with because there's a large window and the other is the entryway/ closet. Here's what I'm buying if it helps http://city-furniture.com/ (dark wood)
Ok woops that link doesn't take you straight there, it's actually the 2nd bedroom set once you click under "Bedrooms" on the left side.

Answer
I don't think it would look bad. I'd think of messing around with the furniture placement.

You certainly don't want to clutter the room and OVERfurniturize. Especially since you only have two walls to really work with.

Think of wall accents to draw your eye upward. If you go with only furniture to accent the room, you end up looking down most of the time. An even balance of furniture is almost as important as the rest of the decor, e.g. drapes, sconces, wall hangings.
