check with your state laws in most states it is perfectly fine to videotape anything you want as long as it is not indecent (bathroom, dressing room, bedroom) and you only record sound or video but not both without consent

So I'm going to South Carolina on vacation. Most of the trip will be spent in Charleston and Myrtle Beach. What are some fun activities, places to see, restaurants to eat at, etc?

Myrtle Beach is a great place to vacation!!
Great time to visit, the weather is usually nice. Cool mornings & nights (light jackets or long sleeves). Sunny and warm (bathing suit temps) during the day.

Hotel prices range from nice/cheap to glamorous/expensive. There are houses for rentals, rv parks, state parks for camping and the prices for these are reasonable.

As far as attractions go...

Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede (dinner & show) $30
Alligator Adventure (Barefoot Landing) is great!! ($10/$15)
Ripley's Aquiriam ..well worth it ($15)
Alabama Theater (Barefoot Landing) $ depends on who's there

Huntington Beach State Park has an old abondon castle you can roam around in ($3 fee for park entry)
BrookGreen Gardens (between Pawley's Island and Murrells Inlet) has beautiful gardens and unique (huge) statues to ck out.
Lots of great places to eat too.
They also have a live band & dancing on the pier at Garden City.
It's a great place, you won't be bored!!!

Charleston...does not have any "beach front" hotels. There are hotels on the river & over looking the harbor, but no beaches.
Isle of Palms & Sullivan's Island have beaches as they are both islands. They do have houses for rent and there are reasonably priced "condos" that they rent out. Isle of Palms has a "resort"..ie it's like a hotel, but each unit has a bedroom, kitchen, living room area & a bathroom. Each has a pull out couch & a set of bunk beds as well. They are very nice and beach front. Look up Island Realty for a reservation. Nice uncrowded beach, pool and a few nice restaurants within walking distance. The Windjammer has live music & is just a few doors down. (Far enough not to bother the guest staying nearby. Also close to grocery stores & a shopping complex. (Those are on the mainland just over the bridge..about 3 miles from the beach). The islands are located near Mt. Pleasent (just on the other side of the bridge from Charleston). You'll find plenty to do. From Patriot's Point (retired aircraft carrier), Fort Moultrie & Fort Sumter, Boone Hall Plantation (they filmed many movies here) to the old slave market to walking ghost tours. The Battery & Rainbow Row are beautiful. There is also an Aquarium & an Imax theater.

Edisto Island which is just out of Charleston does not have hotels , but has a complex similiar to the one at Isle of Palms. Beautiful beach, quiet, nice restaurants, 2 bars with live music on the weekends (kid friendly) golf course. There is also a State Park there that rents cabins, but book early. There is an interactive nature center (no admission) & a serpentarium (small fee but worth it).
Anyway, I hope you enjoy your vacation no matter where you stay. Hope this helped.

Hello, we are planning on a vacation with both sets of parents (husband and mine) plus our siblings. We need 7 bedrooms, there are 4 kids going and 12 adults. We want to have something fun for kids but also something great for adults. We do not want to do like disney or hershey park. We want to stay in the US. Thanks.

How to determine state of legal residence for in-state tuition?

I'm almost 18 and have graduated high school. I'm going to apply for college for the fall 2014 semester and am hoping to qualify for in-state tuition. Only problem is I don't know what my state of legal residence is.
My father works for the military (retired navy) and we have been living overseas for 6 years. Prior to PCSing overseas, we lived in North Carolina for 9 months and in California for 3 years before that. I was born in California, but moved to Japan soon after.
We used to own a house in Cali, but sold it when we moved and we don't currently pay any state taxes. My parents have California drivers licenses.
Do I qualify for California residency for in-state tuition purposes? It's the only state in which I have lived for more than 1 consecutive year, but I haven't set foot in it for over 6 years and I don't pay state taxes. My parents don't know what our state of legal residence is either. Would California still be my state of residence? Is it possible for a US citizen to NOT have a legal state of residence?
My father retired back in 2006. He missed the cut-off date for transferring his GI Bill. The post 9/11 GI Bill requires service members to transfer benefits while on active duty and to sign on for an additional 4 years in the event of a transfer. So yeah, I can't use his GI Bill, to our deepest regrets.

Yes, it's possible to not have a state of residence for the purposes of university admissions and tuition. You need to inform your parents that they need to help you establish residency where you plan to attend college. I suggest that your parents consider buying a condo that is in an affordable area near a community college and a university. For example, I know of a 1 bedroom condo for sale for about $50,000 within one mile of a Cal State, 10 minutes from a community college, and 20 minutes from a UC campus. It's a nice unit is a safe area. This would save a huge amount of money in reduced living expenses in just 4 years, even more if you go to grad school. It would save about $30,000 per year in out-of-state tuition and reduced housing cost vs. living in dorms. Many of the UC and CSU's are located in very expensive areas where housing isn't affordable, even for studio and 1 bedroom condos, but not all of them. The most expensive locations in SoCal are near UCSD, UCI, UCLA, UCSB. But UC Riverside, CSU San Bernardino, Cal Poly Pomona CSU San Marcos (North County San Diego) have affordable options nearby with large community colleges as well. These campuses are relatively easy to get admitted to, except for engineering at Cal Poly. You also may have the option to consider universities in Oregon and Washington State, or any state in which your parents could establish a personal residence for an affordable cost.

It's even possible to find 2+ bedroom places that you could rent to fellow students as roommates - and their rent could entirely cover your housing cost and pay for some of your tuition. It would be a good investment property for after you finish school, since there's always a steady supply of students looking for affordable off-campus housing that's cheaper than dorms. I'm surprised that a lot of parents don't consider buying condos for use by their kids attending university, since dorms and meal plans can be very expensive when added up over 4+ years. The cost of housing and tuition has increased so much in the last ten years that more parents will have to consider this option to cut costs.

How much could I charge to rent out my house?

Q. We live in North East North Carolina and may have to relocate for my husbands job. We don't want to sell the house until the housing market goes up so we are considering renting it out instead. It is 1800 sq ft 3 bedrooms, 2 and half baths. Master suite has large bathroom and large walk in closet. Attached garage, fenced in back yard. House is on about 1/8 acre. Brand new stainless steel appliances in kitchen. House was just finished being built in the beginning of November 2012. Will also leave our washer and dryer. Any help figuring out a reasonable price we could ask for our house would be appreciated.

A. The advice you got to check out craigslist is pretty good in my opinion. We own a home in Boone, NC that we have rented out for about 4+ years now. I've always used craigslist as my guide to find out what similar properties were renting for and set my rent accordingly. That has worked great for me.

If you're a new landlord be prepared to carefully check out whomever you decide to rent to. I've had to learn the hard way that great people in appearance can turn in to nightmare tenants. Check references no matter what! Also ask yourselves if you really want to be long distance landlords. I live about an hour from our rental and it can be a real pain if I need to take care of something suddenly. I can't imagine being hours away and dealing with problems long distance.

Renting it can be a great way to hang on to it and create a nice nest egg for yourselves but it can also be a huge headache. The additional income we have off the house has been a blessing but it has in no way been a free ride like I naively expected in the beginning. Being a landlord has been a real eye opener for me as to how some people live and do or don't take care of your property. If you're prepared for all of that you'll do great. If not..... well you may want to rethink selling and determine the pros and cons doing so.

I know this all didn't speak specifically to the price you can charge but I hope this gave you some guidance and info that will be helpful. Good luck to you!

It is really Mayhew Skinner, Mr. Pluto's son who is an actor. He has been pretending to be his father to help keep the Darrows away during his father's illness.
Mayhew, Mr. Small, and Thomas make a plant to frighten the Darrows. Mr. Pluto won't leave so he is included in the plan as well. They let it be known that Mr. Pluto has to go into the hospital for t least one night.That night they dress up as slaves and old Mr. Drear.The Darrows come and Mr. Pluto scares them by lookinglike a bat. The drama continues as the apparitions rise up.Pesty is riding a horse with wings to further scare the Darrows.
The next day it is decided that Mr. Small will record all the treasure. It will take a long time to do so and Mr. Pluto can be the caretaker of the treasure for the rest of his life.He is a descendant of the escaped slave and this is how he knew fragments of the story of the treasure.The Darrows might have been related to another slave that might have been there. They did not know where the treasure was and so continued to search for it.

Q. My boyfriend and I are moving into our first apartment together in less than two weeks and have searched all over the web for nice but inexpensive furniture. We are moving to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and we're planning to visit the Goodwill stores in the area once we arrive. I've searched IKEA, Walmart, and Target, but I know that there has to be more out there. If my parents move and I stay, do they have the right to take back gifts and items?

Q. I'm 19 years old and live in the middle of Long Island. Due to the high cost of living my parents are moving down to North Carolina where it's cheaper for them. I would prefer to stay here just because it's my home and I've lived here for many years, and I have friends a girlfriend, a band, friends, I enjoy my school, etc.

The question is not simple like "can I" or "should I" stay, because I'm nineteen, and I can do what I want, I have a different sort of question that's a little difficult.

My parents don't want me to stay here, they think that I should move with them for reasons too long to explain here and that aren't very relevant to the question. In an effort to force me to come with them, they're saying they're going to take my amp and guitar (being in a band, that would obviously make me unhappy and difficult to continue xD), laptop, bedroom set, etc. with them to North Carolina and "they'll be waiting for me when I decide to make the right choice." My question is, are they allowed to do this? There are some items that may be straight forward, for instance a bed, they bought it so I assume they have the right to take it. However what about things such as my guitar and amp for example? Those were Christmas gifts, do they really have a right to take those with them as well?
And if the answer is no, how would I go about keeping them? I obviously don't want to sue my parents, but I don't want to lose my stuff either...

A. I agree.. Even though it sucks because they are your parents they cannot legally take things from you that they have given to you in the past as gifts. The bedroom set you will likely have to give up though. But if you are working you can always save up and get a new one.

Q. Okay so my family and I just moved to a new house in North Carolina. My mom really needs to buy furniture for the whole house including a dining set, living room set, master bedroom set, and 2 other bedroom sets. My mom is looking for traditional furniture at a cheap price. I also know that NC is known for cheap furniture but at a quality design, but i just dont know where these furniture stores are located.
