Set the price of oil ?

[jax_]

This has got to be politics.
When you set the price of oil you limit oil's availability. Thus the price of gasoline goes up as the supply goes down. And the price of gas goes up again. Having worked out in the domestic [USA] oil fields this summer I note that every little well in America is now pumping reducing the dependency on foriegn oil. In fact "wildcats" and farmers are out there "wringing out their oil rags" trying to get every drop available to market. Which pays an average price much lower than what we pay for foriegn oil. Within the past two years the price for a barrel of domestic crude has riased and lowered affecting the price of gasoline very little. The current system should be left unhindered as it has actually reduced the pump price for gasoline.

Anyone else agree?

Answer
This is true; however, there are other fringe areas to the problem. In the US we have a major housing crunch at the moment. Contributing to that is the fact that the highest paying jobs are in the metropolitan areas. That is also where the cost of living is much higher so far too many people live 50, 60 even 100 miles from work and must commute from the less expensive 'bedroom communities' to work and back. Where I live there are people who commute by airplane from the Sierra Nevada mountains to San Francisco each day. As the price of oil goes up so does the expense of commuting. People must choose to take lesser paying jobs where they live or give up their homes and move to the more expensive areas. In California we have the highest gas taxes in the nation. We cannot afford another tax on gasoline. I'm glad we are using our own oil and are not so dependent on the middle east.
