Can you paint furniture with a laminate (I think that's what it is) cover over pressboard?

Q. I have a bedroom set that is 40 years old and completely outdated. I'd like to revive it by sanding the exterior, apply primer and a coat of paint. But I'm worried that the paint will crack and peel.

Any suggestions?

A. I've done it by deglossing the laminate with paseo or lightly sanding, using Bin (smoother than Kilz) and then giving it two coats of latex and sealing it. I wasn't happy either with the brush strokes nor the roller because both didn't leave a nice, smooth finish. But, the easiest way I've ever done laminates, is spray painting and sealing with spray polyurethane. I used a spray on primer, spray paint and a non-yellowing polyurethane and it is looking like the day I did it without cracking or peeling.

where can i find good quality furniture that is not too expensive?
Q. i need a couch (preferrably a sectional) and i need a bedroom set

A. I would check in the yellow pages for an oulet furniture store in your area. I managed a furniture store for 2 years and still bought my furniture from a local outlet. Alot of outlets carry the same brands as upscale stores but the pieces are either special orders that came in wrong, too many of an item, discontinued items, etc. You can usually talk them down on price as well. If you find an outlet and have any questions on brands and prices, send me an email.

How should I decorate my blue and yellow bedroom?
Q. My room is large with three walls painted butter yellow, and one light blue with a large window. It actually looks nice, but I have no idea what color furniture and decorations to put in it. Please help! Details and pictures would be great too.

A. It always help to know your age, your budget and decorating style.

What color should I paint my walls in my bedroom?
Q. I need to know what color to paint my bedroom walls. The carpet is hunter green, and I have this bedroom set: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61yWalqTiYL._AA280_.jpg My parents said it could be pretty much any color, except black. And I'm not a fan of Yellow. Any suggestions? Thanks!

A. With the zebra stripe bed set in two shades of purple, the walls will look great in a lighter shade of green, using the carpet as your starting point.

This green back ground will make the bed set the focal point and it is very pretty indeed, deserving to be the center of attraction..

for the rest of the furnishing, off white curtains, matching color lampshades, and wall decorations using purple and green, For more ideas see Design Challenge on http://americanmadeyes.com/designchallenge.html
