I'm looking to decorate my room in a couple of weeks and I really want it to be some place special and cozy where I can escape to as opposed to just another room. I have a lot of trinkets I've collected from around the world, predominately India, Thai Land and China though. I want it to look very worldly and festive yet tropical. What accessories or furniture can you recommend for my room? I have a simple white bed and bureau. The only object I really want to work around is a gorgeous beaded purple bedspread from northern India and I can't decide which color to paint my room. I'm really torn between a turquoise blue because it's calming and reminds me of the ocean or a mango shade of yellow/orange because it's bright and warm. Which do you think? Or feel free to recommend another color.

Really anything you can think of would be great, thanks and Happy New Years!

If you were designing a room to match your personalize, I envision it as an inviting zen sanctuary that is the aesthetic equivalent of yoga: simultaneously calming and energizing. I think your vision for the room being a reflection of your travels is awesome. I am also going to be working on a decorating project this month as we finish moving things into my mom's new house, and I am inspired by your color palette! I wouldn't paint your walls mango, though, because it's such a stimulating color I don't think it's well suited for a bedroom. Depending on how your closet is set up, you could replace the door with a drape of beads or a pretty curtain you could tie back, and paint the inside of the closet mango so you have a peak of it shining through, like the way a striking color that lines a jacket or handbag can capture your attention. Accent pillows, window treatments, decorative pieces like candles, and furniture could be used to incorporate the other colors you love.

I love the colors in the photo "Laugh" posted, and think they would be gorgeous on your walls. You could paint the room in horizontal stripes of deep sea blue, soft aqua and a purple that matches your bedspread, and go over the lines with a smushing effect with your brush so they blend together less rigidly. Alternatively, you could paint the room monochromatically and then add swatches of tulle fabric in mango, turquoise, a deep red, and other colors reminiscent of the East. Most fabric stores sell them fairly inexpensively, and you could find a bamboo rod to hang them from to make it more visually appealing. Loop decorative curtain rings that have clips on them through the rod to hold up the fabric. Another idea would be to hang a tapestry on the fall that compliments the bedspread.

If you have enough space in your room for a small sofa, futon or chair you could throw a sari over it or find a stunningly colorful decorative pillows to nestle on it. A low-lying sofa or even thick cushions and pillows on the floor would be ideal for capturing the spirit of an Eastern room.

For furniture I would look for things in dark rattan and teak. Filling clear vases with eclectic things you've gathered from your travels can be an appealing personal touch. I have one filled with stamps from around the world, and another with shells I collected from beaches we visited. Beads and marbles also are simple yet visually dynamic. You could add a canopy to your bed, or hang fabric from the ceiling. Cluster a few ceiling hooks in the center of the room and tie large pieces of fabric, saris, or sheer curtains to each one then fan them out across the ceiling. Secure the ends of the fabric to the ceiling near the walls. Find a simple circular piece of fabric to tie with a ribbon over the hooks so they aren't visible.

Window treatments like curtains, drapes, or valances, and rugs are other ways to incorporate color. I think an orchid would be a lovely touch. When I think of a room in Thailand an image of the gorgeous orchid next to a simple white candle on top of a teak table is what first comes to mind.

You could make a photo collage by suspending a bamboo rod or something similar from wall hooks (paint them the same color as your walls so they blend in) and tying colorful ribbons to them with clip rings on the bottom holding up your pictures or postcards.

I hope you have an awesome time decorating your room so that it will be a warm and peaceful retreat for you.

~ Peace : )

Any ideas for a Boudoir bedroom?

Sugaliciou

Ok i'm 25. I really like to get some advices and tips about decorating my room like a boudoir. I love the looks of boudoirs. it has to be rustic and at the same time glamorous. some things i like to be incorporated in are:
*a Morrocan taste (furniture,decorations,candles)
*a taste of India (furniture,pillows,decorations,curtains,lamps)
*a Dream of Genie kind of theme(pillows, femenine accent)
*shabby chic
*i want to paint it pink..hot pink and champagne pink (any advice?)
*decorations and furniture other colors than pink
*i like feng sui decorations
*what type of arts (paintings, sculpture) can i get?

i'm concerned about the color,if it will look too girlie and teen. i don't want it to look way too much femenine..some advices please! it has to be stylish, chic, a touch of femeninty but yet contemporary and inviting for a bf to come over and have some good time (weekends) or move in some day who knows!

pls some links and pics will be very heplful too..
MERRY CHRISTMAS

Answer
I'd say to travel all the thrift stores you can in your area to find things to fit your theme! remember-anything can be painted or given some updating! find empty picture frames, tables, chairs, dressers, pillows you can make new covers for, lamps-you can recover the shades, sculptures, shelves, even bed frames!
I'd say do a deeper color of pink-like a maroon or deep purple-your guy will appreciate it more!
