How long does it usually take to get bedroom furniture? Do most stores have you "order" the furniture?

Q. I'm in the market for some new bedroom furniture. I'm not necessarily in a hurry to get it, but I am curious about how long I can expect the process to take. I plan on buying from a "showroom" type furniture store, as opposed to a warehouse or clearance center. Plus, I'm getting a king bed and I hear that most stores cater towards customers looking for queens. I guess I will have to "order" the furniture. If you ordered from a store like this, how long did it take?

Also, I did find one set that i like, but i was told they cant deliver for 7-8 weeks due to back order. Is that standard wait time or way too long?

A. If you really like the set and the price, then I guess it is worth the wait.

I had to wait that long to get the living room sofa I special ordered.

And my bed took even longer but then we had an artist make a special headboard.

For a relationship, what size of bed should I buy, Full or Queen?
Q. I am a single (as of now), short (5'7") male and I am now looking to buy bedroom furniture. Right now, I sleep in full size bed, and it's more than enough room for me, but I would like my bedroom set to be relationship ready. So when I get a girlfriend, obviously I don't want to have to change my bed size. So assuming a girl is about my height or less, what would be an appropriate size of bed, Full or Queen?

A. go with the queen. i currently use a full and when my girlfriend spends the night, it is very tight on space. when we move in together we are getting a queen. stay away from kings. the cost of sheets for those is almost twice that of queen sheets. and queen sheets are not that much more costly than full.

How does Queen Elizabeth travel via the air?
Q. Does Queen Elizabeth II have her own private airplane, like the US President has Air Force One? Or does she just travel in civil passenger airliners?

A. There was a division of the RAF called "The Queen's flight", and formerly the "The King's flight". About eleven years ago it was disbanded and a helicopter was purchased and "The Queen's Helicopter Flight" (TQHF) was formed. The RAF division still has several planes, but they are all from the mid 1980's. The RAF has been re-directed so that it must take care of military needs first, and if it is available, it will fly the royal family.
-------------------
The Queen and the rest of the royal family charter jets on a need basis. Except for a few rare exceptions, the nature of the jet, and the leasee is not made available. If the trip costs more than 10,000 pounds, the travellers,destination and purpose is itemized. If the trip is less than 10,000 pounds then just a count and a sum cost of the trips is provided. The limit used to be 2500 pounds, but it revealed a hundred different helicopter trips, many of which were an media sensation particularly if they involved Prince Andrew and golf. They raised the limit to give them some privacy.
----------------------
The bulk of the travel cost is from trips by Prince Charles and Prince Andrew. The Queen is fairly frugal. When she goes on an international state visit or a commonwealth overseas visit, a suitable widebody jet is leased, but she usually only does this twice a year. She personally does not like to travel by helicopter, and does it rarely.
============
The RAF is trying to get out of the business entirely, and they don't want to replace the aging VIP jets. The royal household wants to purchase a used BAE jet similar to the one they use today in the RAF (but a newer model) and configure it for exclusive use for the royal family. The plan has been delayed a number of times, but is scheduled for next March again.
==========
United Kingdom is by far the largest country in the world without dedicated jets for their royal family or their senior government offficials. The Prime Ministers are more inclined to want a narrowbody jet with some conference rooms, a private bedroom, and seating for 40 or 50. The size of interest would probably be an Airbus A319 which commercially seats 124-156. Although the queen or Prince Charles will lease a jet of this size for roughly 100 flying hours a year, it is far to big for everyday use.
==========
The president cannot normally adjust his plane for different length trips, because he needs the communication equipment, conference rooms and security. He only takes a smaller jet if he is flying to something personal like his date to New York city.The security cost of the POTUS trips is a state secret, but the regular costs are astronomical, more than $100 million per year. The royal family is about $10 million per year.
==========
The travel cost of the royal family is always subject to controversy. The queen is entitled to a taxpayer funded trip everywhere she goes, (without question) even if she is just changing castles. The princes are supposed to justify their trips and provide their own transportation if it is a personal trip. If Charles goes on a ski vacation he should pay for his plane ticket.
---------------------
Prince Andrew has gotten so much public criticism for his expensive trips and dubbed "air miles Andy" that he cut his travel back last year so that he only leased a jet six time and for £55,269 or less.
---------------------
However, Charles has increased his costs by 50%, and is setting new records for luxury plane leases. He chartered a jet for £645,127 to fly to Brazil and give lectures on environmental awareness.
==========
The princes do fly scheduled flights, but they rent a big portion or the entire first class section. Since 9-11 the Queen has not been on commercial transport
-------------------
Even businessmen find that it is effective to go on a chartered jet. The Northridge airport in London that the royals use, has a service called AirBlink that will rent a four passenger jet (no bathroom) to fly anywhere in the UK and return the same day for £2500. Charles leased a jet for £33,400 to fly to Belfast for an overnight trip which is a staggering sum of money for a trip of 309 miles each way.
============
Personally I feel that as a dedicated environmentalist he should be flying in leased 9 passenger turboprops for domestic flights. If he needs more staff than that the lower ranked people can fly commercial. He should be practicing what he preaches.

What is the difference between a full and an oversized twin?
Q. I plan to buy a comforter set in an "oversized twin" but i have a full bed. Will it still work?

A. Hi
It can be more difficult to find bedding for an extra long twin bed. In stores, these extra long sheets are easier to find at the end of the summer, during back to school sales. You can also find sheets for an extra long twin bed online.

Some suggest using an extra long twin bed in a guest room. If you purchase two, you can push them together and create a king-size bed. Keep in mind that if you do buy an extra long mattress, you will need a new bed frame to go with it. Most mattress stores will include a new frame for little or no cost with the purchase of a new mattress and box spring.

If an extra long twin bed is not what you are looking for, there are many other mattress sizes available. A double bed, also known as a full, is another popular choice for a guest bedroom or a small apartment. These are 54 inches by 75 inches (137 cm by 190 cm). Some couples find them uncomfortable and too small for two people.

The most popular sizes for couples are queen and king size beds. Queen beds are 60 inches by 80 inches (152 cm by 203 cm). Standard king size beds are the widest available at 76 inches by 80 inches (193 cm by 203 cm), and the longest beds available, California kings, are 72 inches by 84 inches (182 cm by 213 cm).

Hope this helps
