new 42" TV 720P or 1080P?? Costco anyone?

schooly G

We would like to get a new 42" TV for our Master Bedroom spending around 1,000. The Magnavox 42 - 1080P LCD on sale at costco looks tempting. Has anyone purchased it? I was also looking at their Philips 42 1366 x 768 or the Panasonic 1024 x 768. any advice would be appreciated. Any other places with good deals on tv's? Should we go with the 1080P?

Thanks

Answer
Overall, if you are wondering about 1080p vs. 720p, you should be safe with either. Most people cannot see the difference between the 2, and a lot of HD broadcast is actually 720p anyways. Costs all the same, though, I advise going 1080p.

If you are looking for a 42 inch LCD, you cannot go wrong with the offer Best Buy has going on a Westinghouse 1080p 42 inch LCD. You can get it for $989. The biggest advantage it has over some of the others is that it has 4 HDMI ports, which is amazing.

If you find a great deal on a 720p set, go for that, but given your price range, you can find a perfectly good 1080p set that will be more "futureproof".

Bought an LG 50" Plasma, have a question for best setting to put XBOX on?

Hey guys, we got this LG plasma at CostCo the other day, only 800$, 720P. We bought it as a nice bedroom TV. I also have an XBOX360 in there, just wondering if there's anyone with the same or similiar set up, and know which setting to put the xbox in? Thanks

Answer
Well being you bought a 720p HDTV, I'd say use the 720p setting, so 1280 x 720. Then there's no conversion going on really. The 720p TV would be getting a 720p signal.

But at the end of the day its YOUR viewing experience. So you can mess around with a few of the options and see if any of them look better/worse to you. Even if you're not using what the "experts" feel is right, if it looks better to you that's what matters.
