Would you get a new bedroom set or tv/ surround system?

phatlayces

I'm in the military, and our new place we will be moving to next month has an additional bedroom. We don't have much for the guest room. She wants to put a desk with a sewing machine. I have a makeshift futon from my old barracks, and that's about it.
Any suggestions?

Answer
I would opt for a new surround sound TV system. Finding furniture to fill up the guest room is not an essential. You can find freebies for that room, road side finds, by looking in the newspaper or posted on Craig's list in your area. This room can be arranged so that you both have space for your things. Check out second hand store, Craig's List freebies, Habitat for Humanity ( look them up in your area ) as they also sell second hand furniture etc. Good Luck on your move!

We are moving into an apartment on June 4th. This is the first time we will be living on our own. What will we absolutly need for the first week or two? We already bought our living room and bedroom set and a tv. We also bought a small garbage can, forks/spoons/butter knives, small storage bowls, 15 tall glasses, and 4 of those mats you put in the cabinets to put your dishes on. What do we deff need besides what i listed to make it through the first 2 weeks. (BESIDES FOOD. lol)

Answer
1. some kind of lighting (lamps and light bulbs) for rooms which have no overhead light
2. bath towels, soap, shampoo and razor
3. dish towels, dish soap, dish drainer and a few sponges
4. oven mitt and pans - fry pan plus a pan to bake or broil food
5. clothes hangers
6. bed linens and pillows
7. laundry detergent & a laundry hamper or bag
8. paper towels/napkins; toilet paper, Kleenex, a toilet plunger & small waste basket for your bathroom
9. renter's insurance to cover all of your belongings in the apartment
10. cleaning products: comet (for sinks & toilets), disinfectant (Lysol)
11. broom and dust pan (& vacuum?)

This is a good start! Others may think of more....

What are things you would suggest that a first time renter get?

I'm moving out and I need quite a bit. I'm really thinking more things for the kitchen because I have furniture, a tv, bedroom set, computer. I know I am needing to get a knife block set thing, as well as plate settings. I'm on a budget so if you know of a good cheap knife set or stainless steel pots and pans please post what they are so I can check them out. Thanks. Please post any suggestions you have for a first time renter.

Answer
The first thing you should get is "into the best neighborhood you can afford". The second thing is renters insurance. Pots, pans and plates are about 2 bucks a pound at your local Goodwill and Salvation Army Stores (and the money goes to some very good causes).

I am moving the end of June 2008. I mostly have personal items...pictures, some art work, clothes, etc.,
I was thinking of bringing my bedroom set and tv but am open to selling it.
Thanks!

Answer
its expensive!!so,i would sell everything and purchase new once i got down here.It costs an arm and leg for gas guzzelrr uhaul and then to rent it.
Not worth it.....
keep your prized possessions at grammas/moms and sell everyhing else and use to purchse new once you are here.
Good luck!
ps if you really have a desire to run an ad in paper and see if anyone is headed down this way.at times guys come here to work and drive huge trucks and would appreciate 200 bucks to use on gas to bring it down...we have tons of military in this part of fla and i know guys who do drive home to see family etc and came back w empty truck i was never brave enough to do it.

How long should it take movers to move a two bedroom apartment?

person

I moved within the same complex. We literally moved across the parking lot. Literally. The apartment we are moving out of is on the first floor, with an attached garage that we had already put most of what we needed them to move in. The apartment we moved into was on the second floor.
I had 1.5 bedroom sets, two small TV's, a couch, a table, and a computer desk. And maybe 30-40 trash bags of clothes and my kids toys.
I hired a three man crew .

Last time I hired movers it took them under two hours with a 45 minute drive time.. this move is taking over four hours. How long should it have taken??

Answer
Each move is different, Impossible to know.
