Old hollywood themed bedroom?

Lalala

I decided I want my bedroom to be old Hollywood themed (think Marilyn Monroe). But I can't figure out what to do. I have a medium sized room in the shape of a square, yellow walls with white trimming, and antique cherrywood furniture. Any ideas on the colors, bed set, patterns, and decorations? Thanks!

Answer
Wall color- rose, pink or pale peach
Get a Hollywood bed (this is a legit type of bed! search it on Google to see pics)
Big vanity table with a lightbulb-trimmed mirror and a vintage chair of some sort..you might want to have a collection of crystal perfume bottles for the top :)
Chandelier
Satin bedding
Throw feather boas over things
Rotary phone
White faux fur rug
Framed black and white photos of Marilyn or Jean Harlow or whoever you want
Put on red lipstick and kiss a little lip print onto one of your mirrors (ps you should have lots of mirrors), I've done this in my room and it really looks fabulous

Have fun decorating. xxo

turquoise and silver bedroom!? please help :)?

Sophie

okay so i am 13 years old and i am very into dancing. I decided i am redooing my room! It is a large size room and i just got a new bed. It is a dark brown sleigh bed... not so dark like black but a dark/medium shade of brown. I really like the classy, fancy, vintage, sophisticated fun style rooms. I really love the color turquoise and i think silver is a very rich color :) so i need everyone to help me with like wall colors, accesories, bedspreads, JUST EVERYTHING! TO MAKE my room the BEST and i need all your ideas! so please send me links and just help me! im so confused thankkyou so much! and i do have some sort of budget! so im not trying to be spoiled or anything thanks for the helpp

Answer
I am huge at reinventing my bedroom. I think Silver and turquiose is the best color combo. If you have a window, make sure you dont place your bed near it, place it against the opposite wall, or on the nearest wall. Get a White or Turqoise solid bedspread, Maybe add in some some accents of lime green or black. Use some White and balck curtains, and maybe just plain white plastic blinds. Always paint the walls a darker color than your accents or secondary combo color. So, in this case, paint all the walls turqoise, but scince your secondary clor is metallic, that could be unique color to paint the walls. IF you CAN find a silver wall paint, thats definatley what you should paint it. For the floors, you can either rug it, or keep it a hardwood floor. If you get the hardwood flooring, I'd reccomend using a classic white rug. (Square) Put in various rugs, and find them in all different shapes. If you have a TV, Get a TV stand, or a regular table, and cover it with a silver or black blanket or table cloth. Place the TV on the table AND put a dvd stand on the table. Put the table either across from the bed, or on the next wall over about 6 feet from where the walls meet. Dont place any posters on the walls, if you want the classic look. Put your vanity on the wall where there is nothing yet. Id reccomend the one maybe next to the closet. Use a white set of furniture. Id reccomend purchasing from roomstore. Get a mirror you can hang on the wall, instead of the one thats connected. Make sure there is plenty of room to do your hair and makeup. If you can find one without drawers, then get a roll arond drawer-thing, maybe black or silver. A metallic color. Put all your products in it. AND COSMETICS. Id reccomend buying a beanbag, silver or turqoise. You could get a picture of some ballet slippers, (even though thats probably not what kind of dancing you like) and hang them on your wall. I'd reccomend getting a side table, but it on either side of your bed, put your diary(if you have one) cell phone, remote control and a lamp on it. If you have some empty space, You could get a taller dresser and put it in the corner of your blank wall, or wherever you think is cute. In your closet, you could place the shoes on the floor, and hang clothes above it. Unless you have shelves, then put your shoes on those. Now lets talk bedding, You can get one body pillow, 4 regular pillows, and three decorative pillows. Put two of the four regular pillows nearest to the headboard. put them in a row, then place the other two, the same way in front of them. Then put the body pillow in front of those, then put the decorative pillows in front of the body pillow. You should get silver, white and black pillows. I'd reccomend the decorative pillows to be an accent color like lime green or black, like i said before, The body pillow to be darkest color. Then Get the regular pillows to be white or turquoise. Thanks for asking, hope I helped. Bye!

How Big Should a Bedroom Be?

Hi, so my bedroom is approximately 7.75m x 6m.
2m x 2.75m is taken for the bathroom!!! :(
2m x 2.75m is taken for the walk-in closet

I'm going to have a queen-sized bed, two bedside tables.. one large tv.

I have a few problems:
1. I want a bathtub in the bathroom, is it possible? :(
2. I want this vanity (http://www.pbteen.com/products/hampton-vanity-tower-and-super-set/?pkey=cvanity-furniture#viewLargerHeroOverlay) it should be inside the walk-in closet, but i have tons of clothes, the walk-in closet itself is not even enough...

I hate cluttered bedroom.

Is there any possibility to maximize space? My bedroom is too small i know x_x

Answer
You have a VERY large bedroom. My LIVING ROOM is only 6.5m x 23.5m.
Put the vanity (the link you gave) in your bedroom. Also the Queen bed and two bedside tables. Mount the TV on the wall, and if it won't mount replace it with an LED TV.

Do not try to put furniture in your walk-in closet. Your WI closet is too small.
You need to pare down your clothing.
Go through your clothing and get rid of anything you have not worn in the past year. If your closet is still too crowded, get rid of anytning you do not wear at least once a month (except for formal dresses for special occasions).
No one needs "tons" of clothes. That is conspicuous consumption and you need to pare down.

You can put a tub in your bathroom. In a row, against one wall, you can have a tub, a toilet and a single-basin sink.

Teen Bedroom Decorating Ideas?

Alyssa M

Hey!
So my family and I are moving to a new house, and I am looking to redecorate my room to a really nice theme. The only problem is, I can't pick one out!!
We're moving into a cape, we think at least. I just need some help with it. I want a really cool comforter and lights and curtains and a mini fridge and things like that.
I already have the furniture, I'm not getting any new ones, besides maybe a chair or a couch.
I really really like Disney, even though I'm 16 years old haha :-) ! I'm not into the Disney Channel, I like classic Disney, you know Disney World! I love that. So maybe a room like that would be really need to have.
Also maybe a beach themed, or something like that. But my big idea is Disney I think.
And any suggestions even if they aren't Disney, are welcomed!! My favorite color is blue, if that helps, and my furniture is black. I also hate the color pink... ;P
So thank you!!
-Lyssie

Answer
Whatâs nice about bedroom furniture is that there are actually a lot of options to choose from in terms of style, also various styles rest with different ages. For example, luxury antique furniture relates to middle-aged and old people; while for young people, a modern feel featuring a clean look with stunning symmetrical lines maybe better; then simple and friendly used furniture are suitable for kids.

The choices donât just stop with style when it comes to bedroom furniture for a wide variety of designs and types are offered in as well. Take classic European stylish furniture selected by middle aged people for example, a wide carved bed with embroider bedclothes are necessary, then, believe it or not, there are a slew of dressers that you can get for your space, dressers are great if you have a lot of clothes that you need to fold and store away. Nightstands with drawers are always a good choice as well if you have many clothes to keep. Please do not just stop here with drawers and nightstands; you could have a good selection of armoires, entertainment centers, bed frames that have drawers built in them, vanity tables and dressers, mirrors, desks, benches, and bookshelves and all kinds of bedroom furniture. If you want to enjoy some romantic moment, then you need a set of leisure furniture, let the flavor of red wine permeate around the soft music to relax both your body and mind!

New bedroom. Answer please!!?

How to Maximize My Bedroom Space?

I have a rather small bedroom, so it's really difficult to fit all of my furniture in a way that doesn't seem crowded. I have a bed, tall dresser, desk with a hutch, a long vanity table, jewelry armoire, and nightstand. Do you have any floorplan recommendations?? Thanks so much!!

Answer
Painting your room can do a whole lot to change it and make it unique. It can also make it seem larger.  When painting your room you will want to make sure it's a light color because dark colors will make the room seem smaller. Even if you can't paint your room it doesn't mean that you're going to have a boring room.
Try to use as much natural lighting as possible. Natural lighting will make the room seem much more larger. If you have a big window I don't recommend having heavy curtains. Of course you will still need privacy so just have some good blinds instead of heavy curtains. Also having blinds that block the view from creepers but still let in light are great if your the one who cant wake up in the morning, because a dark room will just make you wanna roll over and go back to sleep.
Having a small room definitely doesn't mean you can't have more furniture than just your bed, but I would still keep it to a minimum. The furniture that you do have it's best to have more than one use. Make sure it has some storage. Ottomans with storage in them to hide things. Bedside tables with drawers so that the top doesn't get cluttered.
Instead of cluttering floor space try having some wall shelves to store things like nail polishes, perfumes, picture and other things like that that can clutter a vanity area, and bedside tables. Target sells these cube shelves that are great for cute little decorating items like small vases, picture frames, etc (http://m.target.com/p/wall-cube-set-of-3/-/A-13235277)
For the less attractive things, decorative hat boxes are great to hide them in and store on a shelve or in your closet. (http://shop.hobbylobby.com/baking-and-party-supplies/treat-containers-and-boxes/decorative-boxes/)
Make sure you have an organized closet the more you can store in there the better. That way you don't have to store so much out in the open.

How to make my large bedroom seem smaller, cozier?

jennifoo22

My bedroom is huge. I have usual furniture in it-- dressers, a twin bed, couple pics on the wall, etc, but it still looks too big! What can I do to make it look cozier without doing something major, like painting the whole room? Please note my apartment is rented, so i can't make any major, permanent changes.
I do have curtains and blinds in my room-- the usual stuff.

Answer
Painting isn't all that major, when you move, just prime and paint over it again, to the original color. It is the most impact for the money. I would go with your fav rich color, something like a dark neutral, like a charcoal gray or a caramel color, or a jewel tone with a glaze to make it shiny and transparent colors.

Window treatments, go BIG. Sheers across the windows, scaled to size and maybe a little longer than usual, but expand the look of the windows with the second layer. Use sexy touchable fabrics like chenille, velour, etc in a rich color, go higher than the window, across the whole window wall, or set up panels to tieback in between windows.

For furnishings, some ideas:

Bigger furniture pieces, esp if you can get a bigger bed. If you can't change the size, at least make it give a bigger impact. You can put the bed on a platform, or make a grand headboard to give it a bigger scale.

You can make good use of the space by setting up zones for other tasks in the room. It doesn't have to cost a lot. Some ideas: Allow generous room between zones so that the

A sitting area with a chair and/or couch, ottoman, reading light, a bookshelf.

A vanity area, maybe just a card table (dressed up with a table cloth) and a stray, simply designed dining chair (dressed up with a pillow case and a tassel like a slipcover). Use inexpensive baskets to store your makeup, perfumes, and hair products. Lighting is important here, if you can put it by a window, also include a lit makeup mirror.

A dressing area with an ottoman to sit and put your shoes on, maybe an old dressmakers dummy to model your fav coat or dress when you aren't using it. Include a full length mirror, for big impact, get a big one in a frame and lean it on the floor.

An exercise area. Outfit it with a minifridge to put bottled water in, maybe a coat rack to hang your towel and rolled up yoga mat.

An entertainment area, with TV, stereo, dance area, karaoke machine, stereo system, whatever. Add appropriate seating if you need it. A bench, some cute folding chairs.

An office, writing, art, craft, or other creative space.

Pick a few of these according to your interests and assign them places in the room perhaps a corner for each, with sensible neighbors of each group, for instance, maybe your dressing area is set up in front of or near the closet door, and next to that, you have a vanity area. Create boundaries and flow with furniture placement and rugs.

What sort of stuff would you find in a 1940s posh/upper class bedroom?

I Love Ya

I am doing a play called The maids - Jean Genet and it is set in the 1940s, I need to have an idea of what things and patterns are in a women's bedroom, who has servants, big house very high class. If you have anything to show me via any websites photos etc. That would be great. Thank You very much.

Answer

Notice the ornate drapery, the chaise lounge, the vanity table and chair.
Don't get stuck thinking all the furnishings have to be from the 40's. Surely there are lovely pieces left over from the 20's and 30's.

This is a pretty basic idea:
http://www.ehow.com/how_4963289_decorate-bedroom.html

Consider whether this is the 1940's closer to the 30's (art deco), or closer to the 50's (atomic age)

How do I flatten the top of my grandmother's vanity table?

Q. I just inherited a bedroom set from my grandmother. The top of the vanity table is warped and the top in the back is separated from the base by about an inch. The front is not separated at all. How do I bend it back without cracking the wood?

I'm assuming that I will need at least 4 clamps and 2 pieces of scrap wood, and just gradually tighten the clamps, but how gradually and is there anything I should do to condition the wood first?

A. Yes, you are right, you need moisture in the wood, you can steam it with an iron and a wet piece of material(quite thick) once the wood has absorbed the steam it will be quite pliable, I don't know how much you can press down the wood, go by feel, when you meet resistance, stop. Hope this helps
