What bedroom accessories would go with this?

questioner

I just bought this comforter set http://www.belk.com/AST/Main/Belk_Primary/For_the_Home/Shop/Bed/Collection_Bedding/Casual/PRD~9200353PREMI94806D/Sander+Sales+Premiere+Comforter+Set.jsp?off=1&From_Sale_And_Clearance=true&dropName=For%20the%20Home.

I brought it home and I love it! I do not know what bedroom accessories (like colors of lamps, curtains, etc.) that will go with it. It's a brown/dark red color with light gold accents. It's really pretty and it has a romantic feeling, which is what I was going for.

Any suggestions?
If the link doesn't work, go to www.belk.com. Click on "Sale and Clearance". Next, select "For the Home", then "clearance". It should be the second option on the top.
I was thinking white too! But I didn't know it if would draw the romantic warm feeling from the colors of the comforter

Answer
Maybe try to go with white accessories, like white curtains and a white lamp, things like that. For the walls, maybe have them painted tan and for the floor, dark brown hardwood floor or dark brown carpet, which ever one you prefer. And for dressers and little tables and stuff, match them with the same frame board as the one on your bed

Hope this helps!

I want to buy a comforter for my bedroom but I can't find anything?

Anna

Hi guys!
My room is a light olive green color and one wall is dark beige. I need to find a pretty comforter that would match it, but I can't find anything!
I am a teenager, but the problem is that I am looking for something a little more mature and feminine than hot pink zebra stripes. And all the adult comforters are too mature for me.
If any of you guys can find anything I will love you forever!
So the basics are:
I need something feminine but not old lady.

princess or fairy tale bedroom?

AddieMom13

Anyone know a website I can visit that sells princess (not disney) and/or fairy tale bedroom stuff for a little girl? My daughter would like a "princess" themed bedroom, but everything is SO expensive. Her room is nice right now, but it's a miss-matched mess of hand-me-downs. The only beautiful thing is a light-beige wood-grain dresser with mirror that is just breathtaking that my mother-in-law gave us. Other than that, he doesn't have a bed frame, just a box spring and mattress on the floor, plain white curtains, no comforter, and some Disney princess decals on the walls (we want to get away from the Disney stuff). I found a beautiful website called 'the frog and the princess" but it's like, $300 for a quilt, $120 for 1 curtain shear. Give me a break!
Any ideas would be great. Thanks!
The princess and the frog is an old Fairy Tale, Disney just recently used it for a movie. But the website has nothing to do with that, hence it's called the "Frog and The Princess".
It's such beautiful stuff...check it out. www.thefrogandtheprincess.com
I would do it myself, but I can't figure out how to use a sewing machine. I'm just not cut out for it. I can cross stitch, so I'm thinking of getting some good quality stitchables, like afghans and sheets you can cross stitch on, and just doing it that way....

Answer
Try a Homegoods store..they have alot of cute girls bedding and decor and at a good price. You have to go to the store..they dont have a website.
Also try jcpenney.com. they have a disney princess bed set but...it the bedding has silouets(sp) of the princesses and not the pictures. the accents have the princess pics on them. its on clearance!

check out ebay, if you don't mind used they may have something nice.

amazon.com..type in fairy tale bedding. they have one that is kind of cute, and accessories to go with the bedding.

I'm Clearing my very small home out and having a yard sale?

Q. and I need to clear out 1 small room of 4 to set up work area for my small busness. I have no idea on priceing old albums ,books, fashion wear, cup collections,2 50 gal fish tanks, workout equip.,office supply tools, bedroom furn,. craft supply, furn etc etc any suggtions how long should I have it before I donate anything.

Answer
Well, if I were in your shoes, it all depends on:
(1) how badly you need the money from the yard sale;
(2) how badly you need that room cleared out for your business;
(3) how you handle the advertising of your stuff/sale;
(4) how patient you are through the entire process.

Be honest with yourself about your goals. Is the stuff really worth anything? Check out a couple consignment shops and thrift stores to see what sort of pricing you are competing with in your area. I'd probably take the best items to a consignment shop, where they get a % of the selling price for hosting your things and handling the sale. This also clears a lot of smace right away. Anything you have that might be of questionable value to others and not worth much at yard sale prices, donate it at the beginning. Don't frustrate yourself trying to sell items that are not desirable in your area at this time. Again, you have cleared a bit of space in that room very quickly. Yard sales are hot, sweaty, boring tasks that compromise your entire weekend. Then you will be fending off the early birds that show up at your doorstep at the first light. Not to mention the ones that continue to drop by in hopes of picking up bargains at the end. Put a price on your time for all this labor. Compare that price to the anticipated value of the sale. Chances are, at this point you might be thinking it may not be worthwhile to hold a yard sale. Now weigh in how you will feel if the neighbors on your street come over to eyeball you junk and then go home (empty handed). After putting the best stuff on consignment, and advertising the other choice pieces in the local neighborhood newspapers, and donating what probably won't sell, Take what is left, lay it out on a sheet or blanket on the front lawn and have a one day clearance. This actually works better if you live in an apartment complex and can get permission to hold a stairwell yard sale. Then the neighbors will be helping to attract customers with their stuff too. If it doesn't sell in the first day after all that preparation, pitch it or donate it. Good Luck.

How long does it usually take to get bedroom furniture? Do most stores have you "order" the furniture?

I'm in the market for some new bedroom furniture. I'm not necessarily in a hurry to get it, but I am curious about how long I can expect the process to take. I plan on buying from a "showroom" type furniture store, as opposed to a warehouse or clearance center. Plus, I'm getting a king bed and I hear that most stores cater towards customers looking for queens. I guess I will have to "order" the furniture. If you ordered from a store like this, how long did it take?

Also, I did find one set that i like, but i was told they cant deliver for 7-8 weeks due to back order. Is that standard wait time or way too long?

Answer
If you really like the set and the price, then I guess it is worth the wait.

I had to wait that long to get the living room sofa I special ordered.

And my bed took even longer but then we had an artist make a special headboard.

What are some good ways to shim interior doors?

Pete

My 3 bedroom doors wont stay where I put them. I know I have to shim them but dont know with what or which hinge to shim. Is there a doorman in the house? Any tricks of the trade?

Answer
shims are made from cedar shingles, cut into strips about 1 1/2" wide. because of the taper, if you put two together reversed they can be slide against each other to vary their thickness.

the object is to have at least five shim-packs on the hinge side [top, bottom and each hinge] and about the same on lock side.

this is done before the casing is installed. to 'stablize' the jamb i place shims at the top of both the hinge side and lock side, centering the jamb, and tighten so it won't move around to much and you can open the door without it falling out of the opening.

get the hinge side set correctly, plumb and straight. you slide the shims against each other to move jamb in and out. do the same for lock side [make sure you have clearance to open and close without rubbing], making sure you set shims near the catch for the lockset. after nailing jamb [nail thru shims where possible] you can cut the shims flush with jamb and apply casing.

a good fix on a loose hinge is to use, at least, one longer screw in each hinge [on jamb] that will go thru jamb and into the 2x4 framing beyond.

Should house electrical cables be kept out of new thermal insulation?

Robert G

So I'm thinking of insulating my attic. I have a slab foundation and all my electrical runs through the attic. I know certain hot features (light fixtures, transformers, etc) need a certain amount of clearance around them so they can dissipate heat - that's in the electrical code. Do runs of individual cable, runs of multiple cables (which have to be derated just because they're near other cables) or junction boxes need to be kept clear of insulation too? The derating business makes me think they need space to dissipate heat, but I can't find anything on the topic. Also, if they are on the house side of the summer heat (it easily reaches 140 up there) wouldn't that be better anyway?

Answer
i have to laugh occasionally, when i think about how the NEC (National Electrical Code) has gotten folks so scared..Article 310 has always stated the ampacities of wires...#12 guage copper, according to Code, can handle 30 amps of current. (Article 310-16) although it stipulates that #12 will be attached to no more than a 20 amp breaker or fuse.

Think of your average bedroom in a house. 6 to 8 receptacles. per. room..max current load...1 clock radio...1 lamp. 1 television...potentially 5 amps on a set of wires meant to carry at least 30...Unless you have a factory in your house, with the continuous load factor figured....no more than 80% load per circuit breaker...don't worry about it...your house is never gonna get hot enough, to affect the wires...

keep the NEC rated clearances for the inductive loads....i.e. transformers,,,flourescent lites...Can lites need space to breathe, as they are resistive loads...both produce heat...give em room..

Continuous loads are a major factor with the NEC and NFPA.These are loads of three hours or more. i doubt that anyone on these boards has a continuous load...unless they are growing...something....

Keep your cables as best as you can on top of the insulation...let everything breathe...and unless your growing weed or making beef jerky, with lites...don't worry about the heat factor...remember...CONTINUOUS LOADS...
