How to make a small bedroom with black wooden floor feel more spacious?

My bedroom is small with only one window for natural lighting.
The wall color is now plain white with the contrasting black wooden floor.

I'm planning to have a built-in storage like this:

What color furniture would be more suitable for dark floors?
Should I leave the wall white? (I prefer not to but I'm afraid the room might look less spacious).

What else can I do to have maximum storage and still have a spacious room.
Would lighting help?

Thanks for sharing your ideas! :)

Answer
As you mentioned, leaving the walls white will keep the space looking open and larger. Use accessories to bring color to the space instead of painting the walls, and those with reflective surfaces to brighten and direct light around the room. The use of woven scarves or fabric pieces on furniture surfaces can also bring color into the room.

Even the addition of a plush all-white or black-and-white patterned rug would break the dark expanse of the black wood floor, and open the way to painting the walls with a color other than white.

Here is a more permanent change to the small bedroom you describe in the question. Using white skirting or baseboard with white walls and black flooring would help to frame the room, and gives a clean finish to the area. Internet images tend to show this color combination indicating it is the more frequent choice.

You could also use a black skirting or baseboard with the black flooring and white walls. If both the flooring and the skirting or baseboard carry a high shine, this can make the room look bigger; here is an image.

We're moving to the UK. Any idea how much it will cost to container ship our furniture (about a 3 bdrm household full) from the US (east coast) to the UK?

Answer
I would suggest that the best way to get an answer to this problem would be to ask a few of your local removals agent to give you a quote.
I have just had a conversation with the man who did our [local] move and he tells me he only moves people from the UK abroad he would not go out and move somebody here [ime in the UK]
But more importantly he tells me that the cost is often so high that he tells me some of his customers would save money if they left everything here and bought new when they got to there new home.

What is a good way to decorate a bedroom? Function soft fabrics and items for a room that is?

Plaid

currently lacking in areas; there is no headboard on the bed,
the person doesn't know where or what to store socks and belts, and things like this in or on.

the main concern is nothing tacky, weird, unfunctional
But instead,
modest, fun , pretty, comfortable, and useable looks for a room.

Any ideas?

Answer
for the head board you could make your own , buy a piece of plywood look enough to cover the back of the bed and by adding some batting and fabric you can make one

or you could find a gate

a door , or even add molding and get some nice wallpaper like a toile for instance and have that as a headboard.

For you storage I have no idea on the look that you want to accomplish but for the belt you can buy a hanger that is made especially to hang belts, for the socks you can use this pieces of furniture that are in the picture that I'm inclosing ,there is a lot of storage for your things and anything that you no longer wear ,give it away to charity this way you have more room for the current things that you have .
