Furniture for a small bedroom?

mely

This room is in my new house i want to use it for my daughter when she comes over she is a young lady in college the room is 7x11 and has no closet. she has the living room area next to the room where i have set an extra book shelf and desk for studying what kind of furniture besides book shelf and dresser will be good for storing clothes and personal items and will not over crowde the room. I am planning to go to rooms to go with her so she can pick out the style of furniture she likes. I appreciate any ideas.

Answer
Try an armoir for storage of clothing, since there is no closet. I would also suggest getting a "platform" bed with drawers under it for additional storage. Both of these items come in a variety of styles and sizes to accomodate the small space.

I would use mirrors on one wall, they can be found at most stores such as Home Depot, come in a variety of styles and sizes and are easy to install. Using mirrors gives the room the "feel" of being much larger than it is.

I would also use "floating" shelves to hold decorative items, books etc. There are shelving units available to hold tv's and stero equipment as well. The more that you put on the wall, the "larger" the room will feel.

Baskets come in many styles and sizes as well, get some with lids, that can also be used to store items in. They can double as end tables, or seating, or a foot rest.

I know you and your daughter will have a wonderfull time decorating her room, have fun!!!!!!!!!!!

Ideas for bedroom furniture?

RockHead

I recently moved into my new house and painted my bedroom (one wall deep plumy-purple and the other three are lavender. I don't have any bedroom furniture and am looking into buying it. What color should I get? White? Dark wood? Black? I love the look of black and a dark brown wood, but am afraid it will make my room look too small & dark, especially with the dark plum wall.

What color should I get furniture? Any modern, stylish ideas?

Answer
I don't see a problem with a deep exspresso coffee colored line of furniture. In fact, since it's a neutral, it will go with anything. You can easily keep the room light and airy because only one wall is a deep plumy-purple, the other three are a lavendar, making it light. So opt for the dark wood you like and keep the bedding light and more contemporary in style, since dark wood marries this style quite well. Here are a few suggestions as far as furniture and bedding go. And don't forget to add lots of silver accents to the room - vases, frames, mirrors, lamps, wastebasket, etc. These will reflect light and keep the room flowing. Keep from buying a full headboard. Instead, opt more along the lines of something that lets light thru, such as a slat headboard.

Aim to keep the headboard low and avoid a footboard if you can. It's best to have a bed that stands on feet as opposed to a platform bed or a full side bed. Having legs without letting the bedding go down to the floor gives you the illusion of space. Make it so that the room is minimalist with a hint of zen and you'll be fine.

Consider opting for bedding with a hotel look:

Or stick with light colored bedding. By doing this, you'll be just fine and the room won't be too dark.

His room is quiet samll its 6ft wide 12ft long... So its narrow. We are getting him a 4ft bed as he wants double but that would take way to much room up. I want small bedroom furniture and his getting his tv on wall. Ideas for colors and window fittings please. I have asked my son and he said he is not fussy

Answer
At 12 he wants, but you get him what he needs. He needs a single bed, as you have described. Your description of the space is inadequate, as it describes no windows, closets, or door placements, nor ceiling height, or lighting, electrical outlet placement, nor type of floor. A good poster of projectile vomiting is always in order.

I am currently designing my bedroom and need ideas.?

I have a very tight budget, so DIY projects are definitely welcome. I have three light yellow walls and one light blue wall. It is a small bedroom-my furniture consists of a king sized bed, a dresser and a bookshelf (both of those are tall rather than wide-they take up less room that way).
I'm looking mainly for ideas of wall art. I don't have a headboard and was thinking of making one myself, but I don't know, since my room is already small it might make it appear smaller.
thanks!

Answer
you can get an 8' sheet of plywood, cover it with quilt batting on one side, stapled to the plywood on the other, and a few yards of a fabric that goes well with your other decor to cover the batting, again stapled to the other side. Lay longways on the floor behind the head of your bed for an instant, cheap headboard.
Another cheap idea for decor is to get a large canvas (oil painting type) and some colors you like, splash across the canvas and let dry. Instant art. Pretty cheap.
Make the most of the room you have with underbed storage bins.

I have a pretty small bedroom so there isn't much room for any other furniture or anything like that but what are some sort of cheap decorations (DIY totally welcomed) or cute things to do around my room to make it look nicer and cuter? I am focusing on trying to re-do my desk area before school starts so back to school ideas would be best. Cute things to put around or on my desk maybe. Please help! Gotta come up with some stuff ASAP.

Answer
Omg I'm totally doing the same thing right now! Im doing everything DIY to save money, anyways I'm making cute little pencil holders out of mason jars, and I'm also making a cute little garland from tulle Pom-poms and paper roses, I've also decided I'm going to change my curtains and I'm going to sew my own. Other things I plan on making are a paint chip calendar and a jewelry holder out of an old frame. There are many things you can do and DIY that cost little to no money. Small details such as curtains can make a huge difference. you could also move the furniture in your room around to change the look. I've found many ideas on Pinterest.com and by googling. Down below are some links of things I plan on doing that maybe you can try out too! Good luck
