Bedroom decorating ideas... ?

I just moved to a new house & my room is much bigger than the one I used to have. My parents agreed to get me new bedroom furniture since the one I have is a little kiddish for me lol. I really want a canopy bed & I'm kinda going with a jungle theme. Does anyone know of any stores that sell nice full-size canopy beds or any legit websites that I could go to? Please & Thank you :)

I'm 16 btw.

I am decorating my bedroom with a theatre theme (broadway-theatre, not movie theatre...) and I am stuck. I plan to have a wall in my room be covered by an NYC skyline, and I have a few playbills framed on a shelf, but aside from that, I don't know what else to do... I really want it to be completely themed, rather than, you know, a poster here, a mask there.... I have a lot of shelves and things like that, and not a TON of room... What other things could go into a really cool broadway themed bedroom? What colors should be the focus of the room? Accents? Decor? Bedding? Anything else? Really specific ideas are more than welcome... =)

Answer
Two color choices came to mind. Black and silver for a contemporary look or Maroon for an old stage look. But, I think if you have a skyline on one wall, you should definitely go with the black and silver. I'm a fan of drapes behind the bed also make sure you start your drapes at the ceiling for a dramatic look. I don't know if you have seen mirrored furniture but you can get chest of drawers in solid mirror and that would look great with the silver and black theme. I would accent with a lot of mirrored furniture. Make the room cozier with a throw rug - like a white, shaggy rug in the middle of the room. Or maybe a sitting area to one side with a rug and coffee table. I would definitely replace the typical ceiling fan most rooms have with a chandelier. If you're on a budget, you can always get chandeliers for next to nothing at salvage shops like Salvation Army and Goodwill. But, yeah... you got to get rid of the ceiling fan to really put the look over. Don't forget you can spray paint some chandeliers with glossy enamels like glossy black for example. Also, hang up some mirrors as well. Maybe paint the ceiling a light grey to get rid of the stark white look. You might even consider painting the walls black. I know that sounds really stark but I have seen that look good. It would also help to make the room look smaller. Try out the colors with a room visualizer software. Standing plant like palm tree plants also help to make a room look more expensive. Make sure to put the plant basket in a sharp looking planter. Hope some of these suggestions helped!

bedroom decorating ideas???

Ginger L

does anyone think that zebra print and light blue would go together? like, light blue walls and a few zebra print accents, like throw pillows and a lamp shade or something like that?? maybe a light blue and zebra print curtain?? just wondering if you think those colors would look good together. if anyone has any other bedroom decorating ideas, let me know. thanks.

Answer
i going to go with you on this idea. choose a bold light blue. black furniture, with zebra accents. you're going to have to be really careful, if you bring in too many extra colors or clutter, the look isn't going to work. but i think it sounds fabulous

bedroom decorating.?

Q. im moving my room upstairs, and i am doing it a rock n roll theme . i am 16. and i was wondering if any of you had any good ideas or good websites i could go to. i was more late 70, and 80, 90s and modern rock , nothing to old. any good paint suggestions?no black please, parents would never allow that. and and decorating advice. anything, just tell me, most helpful one gets best anwser.(Duh)

Answer
Hi, rock n roll theme also means maybe you want a place to hang out, lounge, not just a place to sleep? Ikea and PB Teen both have that type of furniture, and pages of pictures on their websites for ideas. PB Teen is kind of theme-ish and most of the looks might be too young for a 16 year old- but you can definitely find some good things, try the dorm section.

Ikea has a couple of beds that would help with a lounge look- you could either do a loft bed with a sofa underneath, or a bed with the long end against the wall to make a sofa. I'd go with floor pillows, a low lounge table, with a shag or flokati rug under it. A greyish blue would look good on the walls- I think you almost have to do some black to make it rock n roll- maybe you could get away with a black&white rug, or something like that. Pics/ old posters (of album covers, concert ads) are cheap online & would look good- buy like 10 of the same frame (plain black would look great), and hang them all around.

I have a small bedroom with a black bedroom set-queen bed, nightstand, dresser, and armoire. The walls are white with tan carpet. I went out and purchased a sateen black down comfort with a set of soft pink sheets but Im not sure Im going to be able to use it because there is just way way to much black. Can anyone suggest any ideas. Im just wanting a room that is pretty soft and romantic. I love the new furniture but I dont have any idea on how to decorate with it. Im not a "red" person, its never been one of my favorite colors. Any ideas on whether i should return the comforter and sheets and start over? I have no accents pieces yet so Im starting fresh.

Answer
pink works with black, tan works with pink, but I am not sure if you want to try all three. Maybe pull back on the pink to small items like alarm clock, bookends and such. Tan or white would be the best bet for the rest of the room. If you can paint, try a tan for 3 walls, leave 1 white and any trim white( paint is cheap and if you are renting be sure to ask first). You may want to use a throw blanket and some light decorative pillows on top of the bed to break up the black and try table runners or doylies on top of your cases. But if you are tight on money, Return the comforter and sheets to try something different.Maybe plain black and white will be pleasing, kinda go art-deco.

Bedroom furniture consits of King size bed, two night stands and nine draw dresser. Considering to have 50" TV over dresser, sitting area and include small kitchenette.

Answer
Hi!

Brown is a neutral color, so basically, you can paint any color under the rainbow with it... it all depends on what you like. There are a few things to remember though, and I have a few suggestions... Hope this helps:

To have complete color harmony in any room, you need to have 3 colors: 1 dominant color (usually the walls), 1 medium color (usually the trim, molding, ceiling, furniture, etc.) and 1 accent color (usually decorative accents such as cushions, vases, throws, etc.). You can use the same color as your funiture as you do on an accent wall or all the walls... it depends on lots of things like your lighting, but we'll get to that later.

In decorating, black and white are not considered colors. White is the absence of all color. That's why you can match it with any color under the rainbow. Black is the mixture of all colors. That's why it too, can be mixed with any color under the rainbow. It's not necessary to have any white in a room, but it is very important that you have at least one black item: a vase, a picture frame, a throw rug, a cushion, a curtain rod, a lamp, etc.... you get the idea). The black will ground ALL of your colors together. So don't forget to add something black in your room.

What color of brown is your furniture: Black-brown (as in very dark espresso coffee), dark chocolate brown, etc. Since you didn't say, here are some color schemes that work with different types of brown furniture. The way to use them is for the 1st color = dominant 2nd color = medium and 3rd color = accent. Of course, you can use them in any other way you like, thought the ones listed here are best together in just this way. (after, you'll get some links to some nice color inspiration).

Chocolate brown & Terra-cotta & Taupe
Chocolate brown & Metallic Gold & Neutral bisque
Chocolate brown & Delicate teal & Teal blue
Chocolate brown & Teal blue & Gernaium red
Chocolate brown & Brick red & Sky blue

Espresso brown & Soft Orange & Coffee with cream
Espresso brown & Aquamarine & Silver
Espresso brown & Blushing Pink & Silver
Espresso brown & Hot pink and Icy Silver
Espresso brown & Candy apple red & Graphite gray
Espresso brown & Cinnamon & Pale sky blue

Light purple & Teal Blue & Geranium red
Cream & Earthy green & Cinnamon
Gold & Copper & Brownish Taupe
Coral brown & Cream & Rich brown
Brilliant yellow & Lavender & Light brown
Orange & Burnt Orange & Brown
Gray brown & Red & Cream
Orange & Dark brown & Metallic gold
Golden yellow & Sky blue & Velvety brown
Aquamarine & Butterscotch gold & dark brown
Cinnamon & Dark brown & Sky blue

This part would have been easier if you would have given us the style of furniture you have, but the pics should help for color inspiration... I hope you enjoy this, because I certainly enjoyed doing the research for this. I LOVE doing this !!!! :)

So... hope that was fun...

The best and most trusted way to find the color for any room, is to take an accessory or decorative item that will be going into that room: the duvet cover, the curtains, a painting, a rug, blinds, shutters, upholstered furniture, a lamp... you get the idea). Choose the item with passion. Make it something that you ABSOLUTELY LOVE, perhaps it was handed down by your great-grandmother or a cherished item you worked hard for. Or make it something that just SCREAMED out your name when you were shopping, so you knew you had to have it! Choose your color pattern from that item. And take it from there.

Keep in mind too, that color is an amazing thing! There's psychology behind color - it can make you have wonderful, relaxing dreams... or it can keep you from falling asleep, especially if you're already a wound-up 6 year old little boy! It can make you feel warm and comfortable, or hot and stifled. It can make you feel nice, fresh and cool - or it can make you feel like parts of you are going to freeze off. Color can be your friend or your enemy. And really, the earth can "shed some light" on us to help decide every color scheme. Here's how:
What direction does your room face - North, South, East or West? It makes a difference. If you've got the sun pounding down on your bedroom window, you'll want to stay away from warm colors, such as reds, yellows, oranges, etc. They'll make you feel too hot. Opt for cooler colors, such as blues, turquoise, cool creams... think mediterranean beach style here. In a room facing North, that doesn't get much light, you'll opt more for warmer colors and brighter colors: yellow, bright pinks, golden hues. Here's a most interesting link about how color affects us psychologicallly:

http://keelynet.com/biology/coloraff.htm

That's all I guess... Hope I helped you choose your color ;-)

You're always welcome to email and I'd enjoy knowing what color scheme you chose...!

Does anyone have any ideas for a teenage girls bedroom?

I just painted my bedroom black and hot pink but I'm stuck on everything else. If you could give me some tips it would be great. Decorating tips, furniture ideas, links to bedding. I'm sixteen years old if that helps!

Answer
Stick with either white or black for the furniture. There also seems to be lots of black and white bedding available that would suit the colours. If you do the bedding in black and white, it might be fun to have your sheets in hot pink and some accent cushions too.
