Bedroom decorating ideas?

Buffy

I am decorating my bedroom with a theatre theme (broadway-theatre, not movie theatre...) and I am stuck. I plan to have a wall in my room be covered by an NYC skyline, and I have a few playbills framed on a shelf, but aside from that, I don't know what else to do... I really want it to be completely themed, rather than, you know, a poster here, a mask there.... I have a lot of shelves and things like that, and not a TON of room... What other things could go into a really cool broadway themed bedroom? What colors should be the focus of the room? Accents? Decor? Bedding? Anything else? Really specific ideas are more than welcome... =)

Answer
Two color choices came to mind. Black and silver for a contemporary look or Maroon for an old stage look. But, I think if you have a skyline on one wall, you should definitely go with the black and silver. I'm a fan of drapes behind the bed also make sure you start your drapes at the ceiling for a dramatic look. I don't know if you have seen mirrored furniture but you can get chest of drawers in solid mirror and that would look great with the silver and black theme. I would accent with a lot of mirrored furniture. Make the room cozier with a throw rug - like a white, shaggy rug in the middle of the room. Or maybe a sitting area to one side with a rug and coffee table. I would definitely replace the typical ceiling fan most rooms have with a chandelier. If you're on a budget, you can always get chandeliers for next to nothing at salvage shops like Salvation Army and Goodwill. But, yeah... you got to get rid of the ceiling fan to really put the look over. Don't forget you can spray paint some chandeliers with glossy enamels like glossy black for example. Also, hang up some mirrors as well. Maybe paint the ceiling a light grey to get rid of the stark white look. You might even consider painting the walls black. I know that sounds really stark but I have seen that look good. It would also help to make the room look smaller. Try out the colors with a room visualizer software. Standing plant like palm tree plants also help to make a room look more expensive. Make sure to put the plant basket in a sharp looking planter. Hope some of these suggestions helped!

Ideas for bedroom furniture?

RockHead

I recently moved into my new house and painted my bedroom (one wall deep plumy-purple and the other three are lavender. I don't have any bedroom furniture and am looking into buying it. What color should I get? White? Dark wood? Black? I love the look of black and a dark brown wood, but am afraid it will make my room look too small & dark, especially with the dark plum wall.

What color should I get furniture? Any modern, stylish ideas?

Answer
I don't see a problem with a deep exspresso coffee colored line of furniture. In fact, since it's a neutral, it will go with anything. You can easily keep the room light and airy because only one wall is a deep plumy-purple, the other three are a lavendar, making it light. So opt for the dark wood you like and keep the bedding light and more contemporary in style, since dark wood marries this style quite well. Here are a few suggestions as far as furniture and bedding go. And don't forget to add lots of silver accents to the room - vases, frames, mirrors, lamps, wastebasket, etc. These will reflect light and keep the room flowing. Keep from buying a full headboard. Instead, opt more along the lines of something that lets light thru, such as a slat headboard.

Aim to keep the headboard low and avoid a footboard if you can. It's best to have a bed that stands on feet as opposed to a platform bed or a full side bed. Having legs without letting the bedding go down to the floor gives you the illusion of space. Make it so that the room is minimalist with a hint of zen and you'll be fine.

Consider opting for bedding with a hotel look:

Or stick with light colored bedding. By doing this, you'll be just fine and the room won't be too dark.

My bedroom walls are white at the moment. I have black bedroom furniture that looks worn in some spots. My sheets are a golden honey color. I have no idea what color to paint my walls b/c i dont really want to paint them gold or tan. Any ideas on what colos would go well with black and gold.

Answer
i know you said no tan, but any type of nuetral colors would go very well, also an eggshell color would look good. you could also do more than one color as a contrast. my daughters room is going to be pink and blue or pink and purple pastels doing it in duel colors may make other things stand out, you don't want any color that is to loud if you want something else to be the center of the room ( the attention drawn to a piece of furniture or the bedspread etc in the room) instead of to the walls. Depends on what you want to do as well, color can enhance the room and have certain effects. Dark colors can make the room look smaller. Certain colors add a certain atmosphere to the room. Light colors are good for in the bedroom, pastels, blues because this gives a calm serene feeling to your bedroom. Loud colors are to eye popping for a bedroom and have add an erratic feeling. Thats why they recommend putting blue or light pink in a baby's room it is supposed to be calming and help them sleep.

I have cherry wood bedroom furniture and I used burgundy/light green color scheme but I want to revamp my room when I move soon.

I'm going to keep the same bedroom furniture but is there a way to make the bedroom brighter and more cheery? Any good suggestions? I was thinking of buying new sheets/comforter in a different color? What other accessories/ideas could I use to achieve this goal?

The walls are light colored and I'm not interested in painting them.

Answer
Lots of lighting. If you can get a new lamp. and some smaller lights that would help. Also mirrors make a room look bigger and brighter. Maybe yellow, or a lighter blue for room colors or blanket colors. That's a bright color. Stay away from reds and dark colors. also cherry wood is kind of dark. you could get a floor rug for your room.

How about something like this..beige and black, but lots of patterns...you have a lot of colours going on in your room, so I would suggest patterns/texture, but neutral colours.

I have a small messy room that i hate It is sky blue and has virtually no furniture that I use
I want to somehow incorporate an Asian/soccer theme into my room and the wall color idea I was leaning towards was like a sage but slightly lighter
ANYWAY!- I need some ideas please and perhaps where to find affordable bedroom furniture
Thnx!

Answer
I shop at Goodwill, Salvation army, and browse the furniture for sale ads in the newspaper. If you are going to look for the bed at a second-hand store, then don't worry about the color because you can add paint to change the look completely. I am not sure about an Asian/soccer theme, but here are some links for you to see Asian comforters online - http://www.domestications.com or http://www.domestications.com/dept.asp?N=0&Ne=1&Nu=p_RollupKey&Ntx=mode%2Bmatchallpartial&Ntk=all_fields&dept_id=0&Ntt=asian&issearch=1&Image2.x=11&Image2.y=10. Hee is another company - http://brylane.com. This link will take you to a comforter that is not Asian but it includes your sage and with some Asian artwork you can make it look Asian - http://brylane.com/decor/Regatta-Comforter-Set.aspxPfId=170069&DeptId=15166&ProductTypeId=1&PurchaseType=0
I suggest getting the comforter and window treatments and then decide on a color for your wall. For Japanese style decor, natural tones of brown, grey, and tan are popular. Accents in most Asian decors include gold, either as trim or wall color. Also, try to include bamboo.

What color flooring for espresso colored furniture?

Lisa

My dining room and living room furniture is espresso colored. Any ideas for what shade of hardwood would compliment these and how about wall colors? I definately like color and find whites and off-white quite boring on walls.

Answer
my bedroom has espresso furniture and a very light wood floring its not close to white or anything but a light shiny wood and it looks great.
for walls maybe a burgundy red or a caramel color.
